welcome to greythorne. a small town on the coast of british columbia, the nearest city a three and a half hour drive away. you would never find greythorne unless you were looking for it. and even then, it's quite difficult to find. and that's the way it's inhabitants like it. greythorne has a secret. well, a secret kept only to the outer world.

for years, greythorne has been known as a safe harbour. a safe harbour for those not accepted anywhere else. for those that others would call "monsters". witches. shapeshifters. lycans. vampires. anything and everything that isn't human. anyone whose true form would make the rest of the world scream in horror.

but not in greythorne. it seems that supernatural creatures of all sorts, of all backgrounds and natures, end up in greythorne at one time or another. some stay there their entire lives. others leave in search of another safe home, while others take their chances in the real world. but greythorne is a home for everyone. something about greythorne means that humans find it practically impossible to find it, and never stay for more than a night. there is a small handful of humans in the town, those who know the secrets and are either related to or in a relationship with some of the supernatural creatures that live there.

the secrets of the town are closely held and closely protected. anyone who risks exposing the secret will be, at best, exiled, or at worst, killed. it sounds drastic but for many, greythorne is the only place they can survive, because their secrets are too visible to be hidden from the real world. they have no chance of survival. anything that threatens the safety of its residents will be dealt with and will be dealt with severely. and everyone knows that.

but there are some who know about this town who should not. some who are determined to burn this town to the ground and destroy every monster who walks the streets. these hunters have, for hundreds of years, kept their distance. but no longer. no more. a new leader has taken their helm and he fears no town. he fears no monster.

these hunters are human, but hunting often runs in the blood. they are fast and strong and possibly the only humans that may stand a chance against these creatures. they burn with a hatred and a fear that often burned in their families before them. and they are organising. and slowly, but surely, they march on greythorne.

greythorne is aware of this threat. or, at least, the elders are. but eager to avoid panic, they deign not to tell the common person. and so, everyone goes on with their day to day lives, able to feel the slowly growing sense of dread, but unable to identify its cause. but they all know. they all know something is coming. they all know. some just choose to ignore it.

and then the town is attacked in a brutal attack that leaves dozens dead and many more injured. they fight off the threat, but they know it's only a matter of time. something is coming, something which is too large to ignore. some just want to get on with their lives. others want to face the threat head on. but life must go on despite it all.

rules;

first things first, a reminder that god-modding is forbidden. god-modding typically means controlling a character without their player's permission. so when in doubt, ask. romance and violence are pretty much a given for a drama-driven rp like this, but keep it within site rules. most importantly, if things get steamy, either fade to black or bring it off site. there will be adult themes within the rp. if the content veers into uncomfortable or distressing, please PM me and we can work around it or i can ask other players to alter as necessary. please keep the drama to the ic. any issues arising among members of the rp should be dealt with over pm. reservations go in the ooc as they're easier to keep track of. real face claims only, please. characters can be as old as you like, but must be and must appear to be over 18. you have 48 hours to submit a WIP. that WIP can be a blank sheet, i just want something in to know you're still on board. you will then have 5 days after submitting your WIP to finish your character. i will grant extensions as long as you pm me. any further questions or issues, please pm me! i don't bite, promise. when reserving, i'd like your character's face claim, a 250px wide image of said face claim (don't worry if you can't find one, i'll figure something out :D), an aesthetic image (again, i can find something if you can't), their speech colour, what type of creature they are, and a brief description (take a look at my characters for inspiration!) i

i have set up a discord server for chatting and discussing relationships! you aren't obliged to join, but i would strongly recommend as that's where most of the discussion and plotting will take place, and it's also a great opportunity to get to know your fellow writers!

this is a continuation/reboot of safe harbour

Neden Isimir | Appears to be 26 | Fallen Angel | Lynn Gunn | Wolf's Bane109 |

They were once a Guardian of Heaven and Earth, the best any had seen in over a Millenium. They were a master swordsman and knew battle strategies better than most had. But above all else, they had a soft spot for humans, which eventually lead to their downfall. On one such travel to Earth, they had met a mortal that they had fallen in love with, and upon being called back to Heaven, they had been given the ultimate ultimatum. Continue down the path they were headed and be outcast from Heaven to live as a mortal, or forget that wretched woman and continue on with their status. Neden chose to defy God himself, and as a sign of rebellion, they ripped their own wings from their back and cast them at his feet in a last-ditch attempt as the ultimate form of 'fuck you' and left heaven willingly. What was the point of serving someone that claimed to love every one of their creation, but force such brutality and cruelty? Since then, Neden has traveled the world and met plenty of people that have opened their eyes to exactly how cruel the lord was to the human race. Even furthering their certainty in their choice to rebel.

Now, they find themselves in Greythorne a few weeks after the attack that left the small town in ruin. They will do whatever they can to help rebuild this town and keep the locals safe, even if they have to do it from afar until their time to make themselves known, as they can feel something else coming. Something far worse than what happened that fatal day...

ImageImage
Kaylessa Valven | 22 | half-elf | zooey deschanel | Maci-Care

Kaylessa has been in Greythorne her whole life, quickly becoming the younger sister of most that life there, due to her young age, even in elven terms being young. Though she is known around for being the optimistic and cheery little elf that just wants everyone to be happy, and with her powers of healing she can also make sure everyone is "healthy happy" as she say. Due to growing up in Greythorne she could be described a little ignorant at times, but she doesn't take offense to this, and is known to seeing the best in all people and believing even the heartless and the soulless have good within them.

feel free to use your own character sheet but here's a wonderful one made by the lovely wolf's bane109!!

Trisstana was starting to breathe more heavily, loudly panting as she felt the pain started to take over but trying to contain her emotion and composure knowing she’d still need to possibly fight some more. She had her eyes shut and clenched her teeth as she used her opposite hand to feel the knife wound and immediately wincing as she bumped the knife and it felt like she shoved it deeper even though she barely bumped it. Triss wanted to pull the knife out as every movement she made seemed to make the pain worse, but knew that if she just pulled it out now, it would just make things worse. But then again, how much time did she really have before the hunter came back out of the water to pursue her so maybe pulling the knife out for some temporary strength and reduction of pain would be worth it.

The sound of something breaking the surface of the water caused Triss to quickly open her eyes and look towards the water. But even before she focused on the lake, the source of the sound was quickly next to her. Zada. “Yeah. Stabbed.” Trisstana quickly quipped when the mermaid stated she was hurt. If she wasn’t tensed up from trying to hold in the pain, she might have let out a smile and a nod when Zada moved her hair out of her eyes and face.

Triss stayed quiet as the mermaid spoke, but her head snapping towards the town and screams. At first she thought the men were here for her, to take her back to captivity, but the screams in the distance made her quickly realise this was a much bigger scale attack. She was snapped back to reality when Zada was already helping her up and dressed. Fortunately, Triss didn’t mind if she was a bit more exposed, plus the fact of a blade stuck into her shoulder would make getting dressed a bit harder. She heard Zada speak, promising they would be okay, promising. She wasn’t one for promises with her past, but something about the mermaid speaking to her, she believed it. Trisstana just nodded as the two headed back, Zada mostly carrying her.

Helping Triss get dressed again was tricky; there was the knife to contend with, and then the fact that Triss was in a not-insignificant amount of pain. Zada was as gentle as she could be; she didn’t like the idea of Triss being exposed to the elements or any wandering eyes. But she knew that moving Triss’ arm much wasn’t feasible, so they did the best they could. Luckily for them, whatever hunters that were still in the woods were occupied. There was a lot of fighting going on; screaming, cries of pain, gunshots. Zada kept a calm exterior, but this was more intense than she would have liked. She’d been out during an attack before, but never with someone she cared about injured like this. She’d never felt so happy not to live right in the middle of town. Hopefully being on the edge of town would be easier. Safer.

Home had never looked so beautiful.

Zada didn’t know if they were lucky, or if the fates had decided that they’d suffered enough for one day, but being back in her home felt like a hefty weight off her shoulders. A silent thanks to gods of the sea-old and new-went out from Zada’s heart. Mermaids may not have souls, but they can certainly feel grateful when their lives have been spared. Maybe even more so, with the knowledge that this life is all that they have. Zada locked the door behind her, quickly moving to sit Triss down on the couch. The blood would stain the cream colored fabric, but that wasn’t her primary concern. “Let me get my medical kit,” she said quickly, “We can get a healer out here later, after the fighting. For now, you’ll have to settle for the best I can do.”

Trisstana was slowly fading in and out as Zada assisted her towards the house. As the two of them walked, everytime she blinked she would see the old facility where she was kept captive. She remembered the walks from her cell to the experiment rooms, having to be carried by guards and eventually just thrown to the ground roughly by them, slowly closing her eyes and passing out for extended times She never knew if hours or days would pass before they would splash her with a pale of water to wake her for the next test or experiment. Though she was brought back to reality as instead of being tossed to the floor, she was lightly sat down on the couch by her companion.

Triss again just nodded as Zada spoke to her, letting out a bit of a smile as she was told she would just have to settle for Zada. She watched as the mermaid hurried into the closet to look for supplies, slowly laying herself down across the couch, one of her legs hanging off the side, wincing a bit as her back touched the couch as the pressure went to her shoulder. Triss reached over her shoulder and grabbed the handle of the knife and was about to start pulling it out before Zada yelled at her from the closet, qucking coming over with the medical kit in hand. “Well it fucking hurts.”

Zada needed to organize her things, and that was never more obvious than when she was digging through a closet to find her first aid kit. Granted, she didn’t get hurt very often, nor was she in a habit of inviting people to her home that were often injured. After the last attack, though, she’d stocked up on more supplies in case she needed them. She hated feeling like there was nothing she could do to help.

She’d finally gathered everything together when she turned to see Triss messing with the knife in her shoulder, “Leave the knife alone!” She called out, as she rushed over to Triss’ side. She shook her head at Triss’ words, “I know it hurts, and I know it doesn’t feel nice, but we’re leaving it until we can get you a healer.” She gently coaxed Trisstana up, so she could look at her shoulder, “Trust me, you might do more damage by removing it.”

Zada frowned as she moved in to look at the wound, quickly tying her hair back as she did, “I’ll be gentle.” She offered Triss a quick smile before she got to work applying pressure, trying to stop any further bleeding while being as gentle as she could.

Trisstana sighed as Zada said she was just gonna leave it in until they get healer, but she was right. Though she didn’t like not knowing how long that would be and with every movement just caused more pain. “Fine. You’re right little fishy. And you don’t have to be gentle, I can handle it-“ Triss was starting to say until she coughed and the small movement caused by that made the wound sting again. “I’m fine. I’m fine.”

The nixie watched and stayed mostly quiet while the mermaid slowed down the bleeding, holding and squeezing her hand as the mermaid applied pressure and wrapped a bandage around the wound, securing the knife in place. Zada said some more things, but Triss mostly nodded and flashed a small smile.

Zada tried standing up but Triss gripped her hand before she could walk away, which caused Zada to turn and raise her brow at her. “Can you…” She paused, hesitating a bit. “Can you stay here with me? Please?” Trisstana asked. She felt vulnerable asking for help, not just because she was wounded, but because she never really asked for help. But she trusted Zada. Trusted to admit she wanted her around, enough to feel safe around.

Zada tried to work quickly on Triss’ wound, she knew that it had to be painful, and she wanted to minimize that as much as she could. “You’re doing great,” She mused aloud, though she knew the words weren’t particularly meaningful. “Almost done.” She made sure to bandage the knife securely, knowing that it would be best if it didn’t have a chance to move around. She was no expert, but she figured she did what she could to buy Triss some time.

When she finished up, she quickly gathered up all the supplies, and started to go put everything away, but Triss grabbed her hand before she had the chance. Zada wasn’t sure what to think, but when Triss asked her to stay, she just nodded, “Of course.” She moved and sat down beside Trisstana. At first, Zada wasn’t sure what to do, but then she reached and gently pulled Triss over, laying the woman’s head on her lap, “I’ll stay right here with you.”

Trisstana smiled when Zada nodded and said she would stayed. It wasn’t just the usual smirk or half smile she would give, but a full smile that went from ear to ear. “Thanks…” She said, just expecting Zada to take a seat in one of the chairs or next to her, but she was surprised when she sat down next to her head and gently pulled her over, laying her head in her lap. A weird feeling came over Triss, a warm feeling throughout her body and probably making her face turn a shade of red, though she tried to hide it as much as possible. She kept a smile on her face as Zada ran her fingers through her hair. It wasn’t long until Triss slowly fell asleep and snuggled a little bit closer to Zada.

Though short-lived, the man’s screams seemed to echo in Alex's mind. The sight of his skin rotting and liquifying away seemed to be seared into his very soul. A short moment, stuck on repeat. There was a part of Alex that liked what he was feeling. Not the shock, or the holy shit I just killed someone, but the realization that he had power. He no longer felt helpless. Was he still afraid? Yes. There was still fear. Fear of death, hunters, his own two hands.

Alex hardly processed Phoenix’s words at first. He stared at Phoenix, as if trying to unlock some deep secret, and Phoenix’s face held the key. But Phoenix was okay. Not hurt. Maybe a little traumatized, but what was new. Phoenix had started to ask if he was okay, then decided against it. Really, the more Alex processed it, the more okay he felt. Would he have nightmares about this moment? Absolutely. But he knew he was going to be okay with it, in the end. Alex nodded when Phoenix asked if he was going to be able to walk home. “Yeah, I’m fine.” He sounded a little unsteady, still, but he was fine. He had to be.

Almost instinctively, Alex started to reach for Phoenix, he’d gotten so accustomed to holding his hand, but he visibly flinched, pulled his hand back to himself. Maybe that wasn’t the best idea. “I’m fine,” He repeated, mostly to himself. They just needed to get home now. They could manage that. They weren’t far, now.

There was, perhaps, no better feeling than arriving somewhere safe after being in mortal danger. Alex knew the feeling all too well, at that point. Knowing they were home lifted a nearly tangible weight from his shoulders. He took off his shoes and socks. Left them by the door. He’d clean them later. Or throw them away. Either way, he wasn’t dealing with them now.

The only way he would have made it to the kitchen sink any faster would have been if he ran. Alex knew Phoenix had to have questions. He’d never done anything like that before. He’d never been able to. As far as Phoenix knew, Alex talked to ghosts, had weird dreams, and sometimes brought birds and bugs back to life. This was. Very different.

Alex washed his hands. Scrubbed them in water that was just a little too hot for way longer than he really needed to. He should have already told Phoenix everything. This wasn’t a small thing to keep from someone. Why did he have to consistently fuck up everything?

Shit. What had happened? He’d killed someone. He’d never killed anyone before. He’d been up close and personal with death and what came after his entire life, but this was very different. He poured himself a glass of water, took a sip, felt nauseated, and set it aside. How was he even going to begin to deal with this? Talking to Phoenix was probably a good place to start.

Jaiden had just been telling her to stay close when a man- a hunter- seemingly came out of nowhere. He went for Jaiden, and Zoe wasn’t sure what to do. She would have liked to think she did know what to do in this situation, but it had very quickly become obvious that you never know what you’ll do in a situation until you’re in it. So, instead of leaping into action or effectively running away from this incoming danger, Zoe found herself rooted in place, feeling helpless to do anything but stand and stare, watching the action unfold in front of her. Later, when she had time to think over what had happened, she would curse her own fight or flight response. Why her body had chosen to freeze up when action was needed, she would never know.

Jaiden’s cry of pain had Zoe taking a step back. In a weird way, none of this felt real. These weren’t the kinds of things that really happened. Or, rather, they shouldn’t be. She looked around, didn’t see much she could find useful, and then the hunter was up in flames.

Zoe’s initial reaction was horror. She’d seen fire witches use their powers before, but never on another person. At least, not like that. Maybe she’d led a charmed life, to have never been in a situation where she’d seen someone use their powers in violence (defense or not).

Jaiden’s reaction seemed so human, though. Zoe wasn’t sure what to think about it all, but she was glad that the most immediate danger was gone. When Jaiden asked if she was okay, Zoe nodded. Jaiden looked so genuinely concerned. “I’m not hurt.” She quickly walked over, reaching out in a silent request to take a look at Jaiden’s arm, “Silver?” She assumed, since they were dealing with hunters, they knew what they were doing. She didn’t know how many dedicated healers lived in Greythorne, but she doubted anyone with a superficial injury was going to be seen by one after the attack ended. Zoe was hardly an expert, but she knew a few soothing salves. She could at least ease the pain. One of the benefits of growing up in a coven, she supposed. There were generations of knowledge to be passed down. Now, standing on the street, the sounds of chaos everywhere, Zoe wished she knew more. Jaiden was hurt, there were hunters prowling. There weren’t many people Zoe cared about in town, but the thought that she didn’t know where they were crossed her mind.

But she couldn’t focus on that. There was a problem right in front of her. “We need to take care of your arm. Preferably sooner rather than later. An infection is the last thing you want.”

Alex going to take Phoenix's hand then recoiling was heartbreaking to see. But Phoenix couldn't blame him. He wouldn't have hesitated in taking Alex's hand. But newly discovered powers tended to be volatile, tended to be messy. Maybe he should have done. But one look at Alex's face and he didn't even care. If it would have made Alex feel better, he would have done it without hesitation.

The walk home was silent but thankfully short. As they shut the door behind them, it felt like a release. They were safe, safe at last. Now, all of the emotions started bubbling up. There was a lot of them, but mostly it was relief... and still that tiny persistent bit of fear. When would this stop? When would their luck run out? Was life just going to be like this now? Attack after attack after attack, praying everyone you loved made it home this time?

In a bid to distract himself, he sat cross-legged on the floor, trying to coax Coco out from her hiding spot behind the couch. He couldn't see her, but he could hear her frightened whimpering. Maybe the screaming and the fighting had just scared her... or maybe she knew something was wrong too. Coco's presence here was a reminder of all they'd lost already. Last time there'd been an attack like this, she'd lost someone too. "We're not going anywhere. Don't you worry," Phoenix murmured, but he wasn't sure if it was to Coco or himself.

He'd wanted to give Alex some space at first, but he'd been in the kitchen a little too long, and besides, Coco didn't seem to be budging from her hiding spot. He stood up, heading out towards the kitchen. Alex still looked positively grey, and didn't seem to notice Phoenix coming in. "Hey," Phoenix said softly, not wanting to startle him. "Coco's wedged herself right behind the couch. I don't think she's stuck though, she seemed quite content there." He wanted to talk, wanted to ask what the hell had happened, wanted to ask how long had Alex been able to do that? But it didn't seem right to just launch into an interrogation. "Do you want anything to eat? Or tea or anything?"

Alex’s thoughts were racing, jumping from one concept to another. This was a disaster. He thought having more power would be nice, but so far all that he could think about was that he shouldn’t have been able to do that. He should never have been able to do anything even remotely like that. Not naturally. When Abuela had told him that most great necromancers worked in collaboration with others, he didn’t think this was what she’d meant.

“Hey,” Alex’s head shot towards Phoenix’s voice. Not scared, just anxious. He’d been keeping something big from Phoenix, and he honestly didn’t expect Phoenix to be very happy about it. At the least, he knew Phoenix would have questions. But he started talking about Coco, then he asked if Alex wanted anything to eat, and suddenly a new wave of guilt settled in the pit of his stomach. Phoenix was wonderful and patient, and Alex felt like he was a liar at best.

What Alex really wanted was for Phoenix to hold him, comfort him, assure him that everything was okay. That he didn’t hate him, and never would. God, he thought to himself, though it reminded him more of his mother than himself, don’t be so fucking needy. You’re not hurt or anything. He shook his head, gesturing weakly to the nearly untouched glass of water sitting on the counter, “I’ve got some water. Thanks, though.”

Alex leaned back against the counter. He didn’t know what to do, or say, but he felt like he owed Phoenix some sort of explanation. Frankly, he should have told Phoenix about the deal weeks ago. Deals with demons aren’t something that you can compartmentalize and pretend they don’t exist. He knew that. It was selfish to keep it to himself. “Phoenix, I am so sorry. I-” He sighed, “I did something really… Stupid.” That was one way to put it. He absently scratched at his left forearm; it was way too late to take it back, now. He didn’t think this kind of deal was something you could back away from.

“I was just so scared of losing you. I love you, and I couldn't handle the thought of anything happening to you again. And I was so tired, and I felt so powerless, and weak, and pathetic and…” He shook his head. Phoenix hadn’t asked him to say any of this, but suddenly the weight of what he’d been carrying around became obvious. It was a big secret, and he’d never been good at keeping things from Phoenix. Even when they were kids, Alex had told Phoenix every little thing. Now that he’d started talking, the words were flowing quickly and unbidden.

“I made a pact with a demon- for power, and peace. I should have told you right away, but it wasn’t a good time, and then there was never a good time, and then I stupidly thought it wouldn’t matter, because things seemed so peaceful.” The I should have known better was implied, but not spoken. “I’m sorry. You deserved to know, and I didn’t tell you.”

Now take what I offer
Straight up the nose down the throat
It's a bearable bruise on your conscious
But don't it feel good?
Don't you feel calmer
I am the way and the life in the best looking truth

Neden simply nodded as Rosie began to say that she didn’t blame them for leaving, and confirmed that a lot of the folk around Greythorne weren’t happy with what they were told. But how many people knew the truth? Neden didn’t know, hoping not the entire town but, if they knew, they deserved the right to know. Otherwise it would have felt disingenuous to be back in Greythorne, living a lie. Something that kept coming back to their mind whenever they dwelled on those thoughts. The angel blinked as Rosie said that this wasn’t a conversation for now, which was very true. They could have this conversation anywhere else, and even a whole other time. Neden just wanted her to know that what was said, Neden meant it. Leaving was something they regretted, but it was a better choice than to stay. Least it’s what they kept telling themselves. Nodding, Neden knew the others would have an easier time in the woods than they would, they were creatures and beings of nature, it was literally their element and they knew how to use it to their advantage better than Neden could have. That was much true anyway.

The angel gave a small chuckle as Rosie had said she’d need their help within the town, keep the streets taken care of, being better suited for open areas than a condensed forest. Neden gave another small and curt nod as Rosie said she’d deal with Travis later as well, but that she never doubted Neden or felt like she couldn’t trust them. Something that helped lighten the weight that they felt on their shoulders. Some pressure was lifted and felt easier to breathe. Knowing that at least one person they weren’t sure on how well they’d react to seeing Neden once more, helped relieve them a little more. “Rosie, I-” Neden was cut off as a familiar voice called out from behind them. Turning around, Neden saw Evelyn holding someone in her arms as she seemed to be struggling to hold on to whoever it was. Neden immediately took note of the blood that stained her clothing, as well as the tears in her clothing, a small pit formed in their stomach. They already had a small idea of what the vampire was about to say, hoping it wasn’t the case. But sure enough, the moment Evelyn started speaking, reality hit them like a truck.

Neden’s heart began to beat rapidly in their chest as Evelyn explained everything. She was hurt, and Travis had offered to help. Cursing to themselves Neden began to pace a bit as they tried to think of what to do. Looking up at Rosie as she said they’d need to go back to her house and figure everything out there, and that it was the safest spot to work everything out. They’d be a sitting duck if they just stayed out in the open. It took Neden a moment to realize what Rosie had said, that she needed them and that it would be best to have them follow as she’d need their help. Neden simply only nodded and began to follow the vampire and siren, unsheathing their swords once more as they began to make their way through town once again. Neden’s mind was racing, this was their fault. They let Travis out of the safety of Rosie’s basement to begin with. If they just followed their gut instinct, and left Travis back there, this wouldn’t have happened. He would have been safe and left unharmed. They were so stupid to have let him out and been left alone. Neden should have just left him there. It would have been better than what had happened.

Traversing the town’s streets didn’t prove to be as much of a struggle as they had thought it would have been. There were a few Hunters in their way, which they quickly took care of, leaving their bodies littering the streets behind them as they pressed on to Rosie’s home in the woods. Once the small home was finally in view, Neden kept their guard up for any more Hunters as they made their way to the small home. After making sure the others had entered the house, Neden quickly stepped inside the small home, locking the door as they entered, “Alright, uhm...Uh, What do you need my help for, Rosie?” the angel questioned, keeping their eyes focused on the windows and doors of the home.

All these voices in my head get loud
And I wish that I could shut them out
I'm sorry that I let you down
Oh, let you down

Jaiden sighed a bit with relief when Zoe confirmed that she was okay, physically at least anyway. There was no way she was okay with what happened just then, seeing someone just burst into flames was never easy no matter how many times someone saw it. Jaiden just wished no one had to witness it, especially not someone like Zoe. She didn’t deserve that, Jaiden cursed under her breath. Looking back down at her arm for a minute as blood trickled down her forearm due to the wound further along her arm. It stung like a bitch, but she knew she’d have to grin and bare it for now, all they had to do was get somewhere safe and they could treat the wound then. Not now. Jaiden blinked for a moment when she felt someone touch her arm, almost reeling back on instinct, but once realizing it was only Zoe checking the wound caused her to ease up a little. “Yeah, they uh...They all have weapons either made of silver or at least coated in it, among other things depending on what...what people they’re dealing with..” Jaiden muttered in response to Zoe’s question.

Nodding slowly as Zoe mentioned how they’d need to get somewhere safe and have to prevent the wound from further exposure or worsening due to infection. Jaiden wanted to stay and fight, at least help the others the best she could, but deep down, she knew she’d only be in further trouble if they stayed here. Zoe clearly wasn’t a fighter, and her already being injured like this was definitely a sign to get out of there and somewhere safe. “You’re right...We need to get out of here. Stay close and we should be able to get back to my house easily. It’s not that far from here, and the quickest way is less traveled and shouldn’t have many Hunters, if any. Jaiden blurted out, looking around as she stayed close to Zoe. After making sure there were no more Hunters, Zoe grabbed onto Zoe’s hand and held it tightly as the two proceeded to quickly make their way through the town, dodging and weaving their way through the town’s streets, making their way to the direction of the forest. Jaiden quickly pulled them to the side of a building as a group of Hunters began approaching them from a side street, but watched as four werewolves sprung out from their hiding spot from a roof and took the Hunters by surprise and easily took care of them within seconds. Looking back at Zoe Jaiden spoke with a hushed tone, “It isn’t much further, but we will have to cut through the treeline…Alright? Let’s go.” she said and they were once more making their way across the street and quickly hidden along the trees and bushes in the forest.

Staying low and out of sight the best they could as they crept along, Jaiden made sure that Zoe was okay, even if her heart felt like it was about to burst out of her chest. She was terrified, but all they had to do was make it home and they’d be fine. They were only about a few more yards away from where her house was when the sound of a twig snapping ahead of them caused her to stop and watch, as ahead of them a Hunter crossed the main path they were on, just barely looking over them as they continued onward. The small home was finally within eyesight, and no Hunters were around that they could see, as a few Spriggans and Dryads patrolled the woods. This spot was clear for the most part, except for the few Hunters that remained. Jaiden quickly unlocked the front door with her key and the two quickly ran inside the house, locking the door behind them. Jaiden sighed as she placed her hands against the door, giving herself a moment to calm herself down as her heart was still racing in her chest. “Uhm, we should be fine here as long as we stay away from the windows for the most part. Just don’t make too much noise until this is over, and...Some of the forest folk should let us know whenever that is…” Jaiden said with a small sigh, rushing her hand through her hair as she thought on what to do. “Uhm, I guess...Make yourself at home here? Gonna be here for a while-” Jaiden was cut off as a crash came from the kitchen, sounded like glass. Her heart began to race once more as her immediate thought was a Hunter breaking in, but barely ten seconds later a small, black form dodged out of the kitchen with a small squeak. “Jesus christ, Nox...You scared me.” Jaiden chuckled awkwardly as the small black cat sauntered over to her, rubbing up against her leg. Picking the kitten up, Jaiden stroked the feline’s back with her hand, “Where’s your sister, hm?” the witch mused for a moment, before remembering that someone else was with her. “Right. Zoe, this is Nox, and his sister is somewhere around here..” Jaiden said quizzically, wondering where her other cat was. “Uhm, how does tea sound? Or coffee? Or maybe even water? Or something else? Lot’s of options to choose from, if you’re thirsty that is.

Over the years, Phoenix had heard “I did something stupid” hundreds, if not thousands of times. But somehow, Phoenix got the impression this wasn’t “I ruined a saucepan trying to cook dinner” kind of something stupid. He had to stop himself from thinking the worst, but what even was the worst in this scenario?

The more Alex spoke, the deeper the pit in Phoenix’s stomach got and the more confused he felt. Some possibilities had been narrowed out at least with that, but he still couldn’t see where this was going. But he knew it wasn’t anything good. But never, ever, in his wildest dreams, could he have predicted what had actually happened.

But it did make some semblance of sense. It explained why Alex had been sleeping so well, it explained the newfound control of his necromancy, and it explained that morning he’d gone missing for a few hours. But… this was somehow worse than almost anything else Phoenix had imagined.

He pulled out the nearest chair and sat down, running his hands down his face. “Jesus Christ, Alex, that’s…” He couldn’t even put what he was feeling into words. Phoenix wished he’d known sooner, wished that he could have at least tried to talk Alex out of it, but the past few weeks had been such a rollercoaster and things were only just back to being okay… he couldn’t blame Alex for not saying anything either. And then there was the guilt- perhaps if he hadn’t gotten so upset that day at the cafe, maybe if he'd just been more level-headed about... well, everything, maybe if he hadn't been so eager to just leave everything behind, Alex could have told him sooner.

“What did you promise in return?” He asked. It seemed to be the only thing he could manage to fully process, and maybe if he knew that much, he’d know exactly how much trouble they were in. He didn’t know all that much about demons, but he did know they weren’t exactly known to give favours in return for something small and insignificant. Even the smallest, simplest works of necromancy required blood and sacrifices.

Alex didn’t think he could handle looking at Phoenix while he processed what he’d just been told, and as such he became suddenly enamored with the floor. He nodded at Phoenix’s initial reaction. “I know.” His voice was barely above a whisper, almost as if he were afraid to speak any more than he already had.

Then Phoenix asked what he’d promised, and Alex was fairly sure he wasn’t going to like the answer. Alex hadn’t had much to bargain with: his soul was already hellbound, he didn’t have much of anything the powers that be would deem valuable. His powers were the only thing that made him useful to the demon. “Myself.” He quickly realized that he probably needed to clarify that statement, “Um, you know, do what she asks. Further the cause, or whatever.” He shrugged, “I don’t know what she’s going to have me do. Demons aren’t exactly straightforward with their intentions.”

Saying all of this out loud just made Alex feel stupid. Foolish. He really should have known better. He did know better. But the idea of interacting with demons had never bothered him as much as it maybe should have. He wanted to explain that he’d been scared, the dreams had been so intense as the demon called to him, he didn’t know why she’d singled him out except for that he was vulnerable. He knew all of this would affect Phoenix, too. How could it not? But what could he even say, nothing seemed sufficient.

Feeling relief in this situation was an odd scenario, considering that it was joined with immense fear over what was about to happen. Hell, he didn’t even know how bad this really was, and he knew it was probably worse than his initial reaction presumed. Most of his knowledge of demons was based on TV shows and actual books about the arcane that he’d encountered in Abuela’s over the years and had never been able to properly read, because she insisted it was too much for him when he didn’t need to know about it.

“Well…” Phoenix said. “I guess it could be worse then. I was afraid you’d-” He was afraid of being left alone again, but he couldn’t quite manage to say that. “I was afraid you’d promised her my top secret brownie recipe or something,” he managed to joke. He sighed, leaning back in the chair. “But… fuck. Can… Can you even get out of a deal with a demon? Like… if you guess her true name or something? Or… if you go back on your promise, will she go back on hers?” He didn’t see this being the type of thing they could live with. Demons were greedy creatures, and he wasn’t sure that it would end well unless they found a way out of it. And right now, they had to try and figure a way out.

Alex wasn’t entirely sure why, but he felt his heart sink as Phoenix joked about the brownie recipe. His actions had hurt Phoenix, and here Phoenix was, minimizing that. Alex shrugged when Phoenix started asking about getting out of deals with demons. He almost laughed when Phoenix suggested guessing the demon’s true name. She wasn’t Rumplestiltskin. He shook his head, “It’s not easy to get out of these deals.” He paused for a short moment, “I mean, unless I wanted to convert to Christianity.” He sighed at his own joke; he honestly didn’t know what to do. None of the people he would normally have considered going to for advice in this situation were around.

And besides, it wasn’t as if it were as easy as asking to be let out of the pact. “I guess, in theory, if I don’t utilize her power, I won’t owe her anything. But part of the deal is also,” He didn’t want to admit that he hadn’t missed the dreams, or the spirits constantly whispering in his ear. When the demon had said she would protect him from some of the entities that may mean to harm him, he hadn’t thought she’d meant all that. “I don’t know. She may retaliate.”

Alex wasn’t even really sure he wanted to be free of this. Sure, demons were scary, and this would very likely escalate to a place he didn’t want to be, but the power was nice. Sleeping the night through was a dream come true. “Abuela may have some books, or ideas. I-” He paused, looked at Phoenix as if he expected his eyes would be able to guide him through what he needed to do, “I don’t want to risk making things worse. I’ve done enough of that lately.”

Phoenix wanted to be angry. And somewhere, deep down, he was. Alex had put them in more danger and he hadn’t told Phoenix about any of it. This was way bigger than anything they had ever faced and they didn’t have any idea of how to get out of it. But he was just… tired. Maybe it was just after everything else that had happened today or maybe it was the fact that he almost blamed himself for the fact that Alex hadn’t said anything. Alex’s joke about converting to Christianity managed to earn a small smile for a moment.

Phoenix glanced at the floor as Alex said he didn’t want to risk making things worse. His first instinct was to say no, that he hadn’t messed up, but… He had. Bringing that up wasn’t going to help either of them now though, and Phoenix knew neither of them wanted to confront that right now. He nodded at the mention of Abuela.

“We’re going to have to tell Abuela. She’s got the best knowledge of the arcane in… well, probably anywhere. But you’re telling her, you got us into this mess, you can deal with the aftermath,” he said, smiling despite himself. “She… if anyone knows anything about it, she will. We’ll figure this out.”

While, logically, Alex knew that he had to be the one to talk to his grandmother, the idea of telling her he’d made a pact with a demon was less than ideal. She was going to kill him. She was going to kill his mother for giving birth to him. Still, he nodded. She could help, and if she couldn’t, she might know someone who could. Alex had taken her knowledge for granted, shunned her attempts to teach him as a teenager. Clearly, that had been a mistake, but at the time he’d been so overwhelmed with life, and then he never thought it particularly important. And he was scared; he’d always been scared. He was sick and tired of being afraid, but he supposed he preferred it to feeling guilty. The trade-off really wasn’t worth it.

Maybe he was catastrophizing, but the situation was less than ideal. He’d managed to go on about his life like nothing had changed, but now that he’d been given proof that things were, indeed, not the same, it felt real to him. He’d been so accustomed to his decisions only affecting himself, but they didn’t just affect him. He’d thought he was doing better, but now it seemed more like he’d just been ignoring problems until they blew up in his face. Phoenix deserved better than that.

“I’m sorry, Phoenix.” There wasn’t going to be an easy way to make this right. And what if Alex couldn’t get out of the pact? Would Phoenix be able to forgive him? Would they be able to live with this? God, why did he have to be so much like his mother? Selfish, rash, stupid. And Phoenix was, as far as Alex was concerned, absolutely wonderful. He was so patient and understanding, and yeah that may be because Phoenix understood Alex deeply after being friends their entire lives, and Alex couldn’t help but feel that Phoenix deserved better.

What Alex really wanted was some confirmation that Phoenix didn’t hate him, but he didn’t feel he deserved to ask, so instead he echoed what Phoenix had said just a moment before, “We’ll figure this out,” And then, “I’ll talk to Abuela soon. I’ll handle it.”

Phoenix managed a half smile at Alex saying he’d talk to Abuela. “Yeah, like I’d let you deal with that alone. She might be a little less likely to just kill you if I’m there.” He knew what Alex was like, and knew he’d want to do it all alone. Phoenix also knew that letting him do it alone wasn’t going to be a particularly good idea.

“But… yeah. We’ll get through this. Just… don’t try and do this by yourself, okay?” He said, finally meeting Alex’s eyes properly. “I’m already involved in this, no matter what, and I’m going to help whether you like it or not.”

When Phoenix said he would go with him to talk to Abuela, and that he was going to help, Alex nodded. He was glad that Phoenix hadn’t decided he wasn’t worth the trouble; though Alex certainly wouldn’t have blamed him if he did. He also wanted to tell Phoenix that he could handle it, but he knew he’d messed up, and he had a long history of making bad decisions. It really wasn’t a wonder if the people in his life didn’t trust him not to make it worse. So instead, he said, “Okay.”

He moved from his spot; leaning against the counter had felt somewhat safe, but he couldn’t stay there forever. He pulled out a chair, sat beside Phoenix, “What are you thinking?” That question was too broad, that was dangerous. Alex already knew he was an idiot, “I mean, do you have any other questions? A desire to yell at me?”

He was glad Alex made the move to sit closer to him. As much as he seemed to constantly desire physical proximity and contact, he never knew what to do about it in these types of situations, and tended to just freeze up until someone else made the first move. He hadn’t realised how tense he’d been until he relaxed as Alex sat down beside him.

Alex asked him what he was thinking, and he had to take a minute to figure it out himself. He’d just been jumping from thought to thought and none of them had even made much sense, but having to try and put some sense on them. Alex asking him if he wanted to yell at him earned another small smile.

“No. Don’t get me wrong, it was… perhaps the dumbest decision you’ve ever made, and trust me, that’s impressive. Like, really impressive,” he teased. “But… it’s not as bad as it could be. It’s still pretty shit. But I also think it could be a lot worse.” His brain had helpfully provided every single worst case scenario to him in the two seconds after Alex had told him, and somehow, this wasn’t the worst of them. “I think after… I think I’m just glad we’re both alive to deal with it.” He instinctively leaned over to rest his head on Alex’s shoulder. “But I still reserve the right to yell at you tomorrow when the shock wears off,” he added jokingly.

Phoenix’s teasing earned an eye roll from Alex. Of course, Alex knew he’d made more than his fair share of questionable decisions, so the eye roll was paired with the faintest smile. Phoenix went on, and Alex had to agree. It could be worse, and they were both pretty lucky to still be alive, all things considered. Alex felt a proverbial weight lift off his shoulders as Phoenix rested his head against him. It wasn’t a big gesture, but it felt like exactly what he needed. Alex nodded at Phoenix’s comment about yelling at him, a part of him unhelpfully remembered that he may have an unusually busy time at work in the near future. It was quickly becoming not-so-unusual. Instead, he just rested his head against Phoenix’s, “Okay, looking forward to it.”

There were plenty of things Alex could have said. Phoenix was wonderful, kind, understanding, too good for him. Instead he just said, “Thank you.” If asked what for, he couldn’t have answered. Phoenix being himself was more than Alex could have ever asked for, and though Alex didn’t really feel better about the situation, he did feel more secure.

They got back to Rosie’s house without encountering any more hunters, the first stroke of luck they’d had all day. Rosie honestly wanted to just collapse onto the couch with the biggest glass of wine she could pour, but she couldn’t do that just yet. She told herself that she could do that eventually, but they needed to deal with something else first.

She instructed Evelyn to put Travis down on the couch instead. The vampire obliged, and Rosie found herself with both Evelyn and Neden looking at her for guidance, asking what they should do. She’d never asked for a leadership role like this. But at some point it had been thrust upon her, and she had never been one to run away from a challenge. Even as tempting as it could be sometimes. She sighed, running a hand through her hair.

“I need both your expertise. There hasn’t been a vampire attack… of this kind,” she added quickly, but Evelyn didn’t seem too troubled by the comment, “here in years and I’ve never dealt with one. I don’t know what to expect,” she admitted. “I don’t know what’s going to happen, I don’t know how I’m supposed to deal with this.”

She sighed and shook her head a little bit. “Mostly I just want company,” she admitted. “So I’m going to pour myself a glass of wine and whatever snacks I have, can I get either of you anything?” She asked, already heading into the kitchen. She didn’t even know if this was the type of thing that they could even do anything about, but she knew it wasn’t the type of thing she wanted to deal with alone. Pulling out three glasses, she carefully balanced them, along with a bottle of wine and some chips as she went back into the sitting room.

I stand behind the wall of people and thoughts, mind controlling
And I hold a sword to guide me
I'm fighting my way
I can't recall the last time I opened my eyes to see the world as beautiful
And I built a cage to hide in
I'm hiding, I'm trying to battle the night

As the three of them stepped in, Neden kept their eyes on the windows and doors, following the other two in as they laid Travis on the couch. Constantly flicking their eyes back to the windows, Neden didn’t like being locked up when fighting was still going outside of this small home. It felt wrong. Neden wasn’t one to run away, they were built to be a fighter, not lock themselves away and hide like this. It felt wrong. But they knew Rosie needed them, for whatever it was. And they needed to be here, for now.

Neden blinked as Rosie began to speak finally, clearly stressed out of her mind, far more than she was minutes earlier. They were so wrapped up in their own thoughts, for a moment they didn’t fully understand what Rosie had said, only taking in the last bit. They were all over their heads with this, and none of them were to blame here, it was all a mess and mistakes had been made. There was nothing they could do. Not now. Neden sighed for a moment as they thought on what to say, they knew plenty about vampires, the whole process of watching someone turn into one. It was a brutal and slow transformation, but thankfully the individual would be unconscious for the worst part. But Neden knew what would happen once Travis woke up. It wouldn’t be pretty.

Silently they watched as she left the living room for a few moments, and came back with some wine and snacks. Neden listened as she said she just wanted the company, and nodded solemnly. Neden would stay around for a bit longer, Rosie needed it.”I’m fine...Thank you, Rosie.” the angel said with a small smile, meaning it genuinely. Neden didn’t feel like they deserved to be welcomed back into Greythorne, not after everything that had happened, and how they left and what was said, they weren’t even entirely sure if they were going to be coming back to the town. But something felt off and was almost like a pull, the same pull that caused Neden to come to Greythorne in the first place. This was their home after all and Neden wasn’t going anywhere, unless they wanted Neden out. Neden gently placed their hand on Rosie’s shoulder, and gave it a gentle squeeze for a moment as they remained silent for a moment before turning and giving the siren a gentle, but firm hug. Neden sighed after a moment and gently let Rosie go and stepped away from their short hug. Remembering why they were properly brought here for.

Neden sat down on one of the chairs, clasping their hands together as they looked down at the floor, “Uhm...I know...I know a bit about vampires, mainly from my…” the angel started, brushing their fingers through their hair for a moment as they thought, never looking in Evelyn’s direction. Out of everyone in Greythorne, there were very few people that frightened Neden, and Evelyn was one of them. “Okay, it doesn’t matter where or how I obtained this knowledge, all that matters is that I know. It’s going to be a slow and painful process for him, Rosie.” Neden said as they looked at her for a moment before averting their gaze once more. “Evelyn knows more, obviously but...When he comes to, you’re going to need to make sure that he is kept from getting out of this house. He could attack anyone or...anything due to the thirst for blood. He’ll be very groggy and tired but, the thirst for blood, from a newly turned vampire is...It’s dangerous.” the angel said as they took a deep breath, flexing their fingers for a moment as they stretched their hands. Something didn’t feel right, that small scratch in the back of their head came back. Slowly scraping away, whispering in their ear. Neden did their best to ignore it as they continued on explaining things that Rosie needed to know.

You’re going to need someone strong enough to keep him from attacking you if he wants blood as badly as he is going to. I’d recommend having some sort of animal or something here for him. Starting him off with human is...it’s bad. Obviously we don’t want that to happen, just...stating the obvious I guess.” they said shakily. Looking back up at Rosie, they could tell what her thought process was as they slowly stood up, “I won’t be long but, I need to check on a few things out there…” the angel said as they looked out the window for a moment, that feeling coming back and slowly started making its way into their stomach, something wasn’t right.

Looking back at Rosie and Evelyn, and quickly taking a brief look at Travis, “I’ll only be checking up on a few things, and I’ll be back. And if you don’t trust me, fangs...I’ll let you kill me yourself, sound fair?” Neden said with a small wink and smile towards the vampire. “Something just...I need to make sure everything is okay out there, and I will be back. Is that okay, Rosie?” Neden asked, the look in their eyes was something that Rosie would have understood. It was a genuine look of concern and worry, a look not many people saw on Neden’s face before.

Can't find a way to
A way to save you
When all the day's end
Remember me then
It's not too late to save you

Violet didn’t know where she was going, all she knew was that she had to run. At least find someone, anyone that she could talk to. She just had to find them first. She ran for what felt like hours, bobbing and weaving in between buildings and alleyways, and hiding behind cars and objects as Hunters and creatures fought. Violet slammed herself into the side of a truck as she dodged out of the way of a werewolf and Hunter that surprised her by entering the side street she was making her way down, watching as the Hunter had managed to down the creature and tauntingly walked around him. Violet held her breath as she tried to figure out what to do, she had to do something. Anything. She wasn’t going to sit by and let one of the townsfolk die.

Violet popped her head around the corner of the back of the truck, and watched as the Hunter reloaded his gun, mumbling something to the werewolf that laid on the ground helplessly. She watched as the Hunter crouched beside the werewolf and whispered into his ear, using that to her advantage, pulling out the knife she had in her pocket, and quickly and softly ran up behind the Hunter, jumped onto his back, plunging the dagger into the right side of his chest. The Hunter let out a scream as the knife was pressed firmly into his pectoral muscles, feeling the knife only dig deeper as Violet twisted it in her hand. “Get off of me, you bitch!” he yelled, and scrambled to get the young girl off his back. Violet held on tight as she bit onto the Hunter’s right ear, which seemed to work and piss the Hunter off enough to fling himself backwards, slamming Violet into the side of the truck, which only caused her to bite down harder onto his ear. The Hunter slammed Violet back into the truck once more, and as he did so, he screamed out in pain and anger, quickly moving away from Violet as he gripped the side of his head. Blood trickling down the side of his head. “What the fuck is wrong with you?” he howled, still holding onto the side of his head.

Violet chuckled as she slowly regained her composure, leaning against the side of the truck as she spit something out onto the concrete beneath. Blood covered her bottom lip that she whipped away with her sleeve. “It’s what you get, fucker.” she muttered as she slowly made her way towards the Hunter who was barreled over in pain, holding whatever remainder of an ear that he had. Violet picked up his gun and aimed it at the man, “Give me a reason not to.[b]” she demanded. The Hunter looked up at her with anger in his eyes, spitting up in her direction, “[b]Go fuck yourself.” he spat. “Ditto.” Violet muttered, the sound of the pistol rang out and echoed through the otherwise empty street, as the Hunter crumbled to a heap on the ground as a pool of blood began to slowly form around his body.

Violet took a deep, shaky breath as she stepped back from the corpse of the Hunter, slowly taking in what she had done. She had to do it, there wasn’t any other choice. The gun fell from her shaky hands and landed on the asphalt with a soft clatter of metal as she turned and made her way to the werewolf who was slowly getting to his feet. “Arthur, are you okay?[b]” she asked, helping the injured man to his feet. He gave her a small nod of his head, gently patting her on the shoulder, “[b]Thank you, Violet...I...I’m sorry you had to do that but...Thank you. Are you okay?” he questioned. His dark green eyes full of worry for her. She gave the man a small smile, “I’m okay. I promise. You need to get out of here, alright? Go find some place to hide. I think we’ve almost got it all handled from here.” Violet said insistently. The werewolf gave her a small nod of his head, and bounded off down the street and out of view in search of a safe place for now.

Turning to look back down the street, Violet sighed. Her body ached, all she wanted to do was go home and sit down and relax. That was all. But she knew she couldn’t, not now. She had something more important to take care of. Violet silently hobbled down the street as she kept her guard up and her eyes on anything, just in case another Hunter showed up or others needed help. Her footsteps were the only sound she could hear aside from the sound of her beating heart, which she thought was going to burst out of her chest at any given time. Slowly she turned down another street corner and froze. Something didn’t feel right. Slowly turning and looking over her shoulder, Violet saw it. A figure stood in the middle of the street, staring her down with an emotionless face.

Violet felt her heart sink as she finished turning around and looking the figure in the eyes. “What do you want with me?” she asked as she never took her eyes off of the figure. Slowly it began to take steps towards her, with every step forward, Violet took a step backwards. Within a blink, the figure was merely a few feet away from her, head tilted to the side. “The fuck are you doing here? You promised you’d leave me alone until-” “I’m just here to...Observe, my dear. That’s all.” the man said solemnly, clasping his hands together tightly behind his back. He was dressed neatly in a dark suit, with a light blue undershirt. His hair was unkempt and swept off to the side, unlike how it usually was which was neatly slicked back. “You look…different. Why’s that?” Violet questioned. The man mused as he circled passed Violet, never taking his eyes off of her as he did so.

I don’t have the slightest idea what you could be inferring to, my dear. I figured I’d dress down for the day, explore a bit of Greythorne as a tourist. See why it is exactly you like this town.” he said with a coy smile, one that just didn’t sit right with violet. “To see just why you care so much for this...drab town. I do admit it has its perks but...It doesn’t seem so...exciting. Except for today. Wouldn’t you agree, my dear?” he said with a glint in his eyes as he stepped closer to her. Violet rolled her eyes as she backed up from him, giving them a few steps between each other. “It’s my home, and the people I care about live here. Doesn’t surprise me why you don’t understand it, you’ve never had anything to love in your life. So why would you-
” she gasped as the man seized her by the throat, pinning her up against the side of a building.

Need I remind you of our deal? You even think of it for a second, and I will kill everything and everyone you’ve ever loved. Starting off with your dearest grandmother. So don’t even consider speaking back to me, do you understand that?” he hissed, releasing Violet from his grasp as she fell to the ground. “I understand it perfectly..” she muttered between gasped breaths, before quickly jabbing the knife she had into the man’s leg. “Tsk tsk tsk, Violet. You should know better by now…” he said with a growl to his voice as he hoisted her back up, slamming her into the wall with more force this time. “You really shouldn’t have done that.” he muttered. “Go fuck yourself.” she gasped out, as an arrow pierced the man’s shoulder, causing him to drop Violet once more as he recoiled back in pain. Looking from where the arrow had come from, to see a figure dressed in black in the distance, bow in hand, with another arrow already notched in the bow. “Is that really the best that you got?” he called out as he grasped the arrow and forced out of his shoulder.

Back off of her, you fuckass.” Neden called out as they closed in on Violet and the man, a few yards separating the three of them, never once taking their eyes off the man. “So...This is the one I’ve heard so much about, huh? The angel?” he mused. Neden glared at him, eyeing him up and down as they kept their eyes and bow aimed at the stranger. “And who are you? Except besides a creepy old fuck. What’s your name?” they questioned with an arched brow. The man chuckled as he loosened his hands from behind his back, clasping his hands infront of himself. “My name is Lucian Monnette. Pleasure to meet you, Neden Isimir, or should I call you Orion? Or maybe even Ronan? Which one do you prefer nowadays?” he mused with a weasley smile. Neden felt their stomach drop the moment he said those names, no one should have known, no one. It wasn’t possible, at least it shouldn’t have been. “H-how do you know my name? No one should that.” they hissed, keeping their eyes trailed on the man. The man known as Lucian smiled, “I know a great many things, Neden. And your name....That is an easy one. I know things about you that you'd be ashamed of, more than your time with the Branded, and before that. But my question for you is, why? Why did you break their trust? To deceive the ones you considered as friends, to only betray them?” he said with a chuckle as he looked at the angel.

Neden swallowed hard, looking at Violet for a moment before letting the notched arrow go and find its way in the man’s forearm, “Keep talking, and I’ll make sure this one lands between your eyes.” the angel said as they quickly notched another arrow. “Violet, are you okay?” they questioned, noticing Violet slowly getting to her feet from the corner of their eye. “Yeah….I’m fine. But you need to get out of here, Neden. This isn’t you shit to fight. Just...Just let me talk to him. Go home.” Violet said as she walked up to Neden, and pushed them back with a gentle push. “Like hell I’m leaving you with this creep, Violet. I’m not going anywhere.” Neden said as they walked back up to Violet, keeping an arm over her. “If you’re going to want to hurt her, you’re going to have to get through me first. So what is it, Lucian?” Neden snapped back at the man.

Lucian grinned as he eyed the two, “So be it…” he mumbled softly, with a swift flick of his wrist, Neden was sent back hurtling through the air with what felt like a gust of wind that knocked the air from their lungs as they crashed into the asphalt a few feet away from Lucian and Violet. The angel slowly turned themselves over, falling onto their back as they tried to regain air in their lungs. “Fine then...Let’s just get this over with.” Violet said softly as she formed what seemed like a small orb of energy in her hands, and aimed it at Lucian which sent him flying through the air, but was able to catch himself and land atop the roof of a car. The man looked at her with a grin, “Shame...” he said aloud.

Violet narrowed her eyes at the man as she could feel her strength slowly leaving her body, breathing heavily. “What’s a shame?” she called out, Lucian grinned, “So much potential...But it’s wasted. And for what? On these wastes of carnal flesh?” he mused, Violet forced another orb of energy and hurled it in his direction, but it simply fired off past him as he dodged out of the way. “Look...If you just want me, take me and leave. They have nothing to do with this, they aren’t a part of it.” Violet pleaded as the man approached her. He seized her by the throat as he crouched down in front of her, “You made them a part of this. And for your insolence, they will pay for it.” Lucian raised his other hand which was aimed towards Neden, and caused a burst of energy to force them into the air, and quickly forced them back into the concrete down below with a loud thud as Neden’s body hit the ground, the air exiting their lungs with an audible exhale.

Violet watched as Neden laid on the ground in a slumped over heap, blood clearly oozing out from a wound on their head. Violet turned her attention to face the man once more, shooting off a slightly bigger orb of energy which knocked him off his feet and back a few yards. Violet’s breathing became heavier and heavier as time went on. She could feel herself fading faster and faster the longer she spent fighting this...Whatever he was. Violet knew she had one option left, she just didn’t know if she could do it. Nevermind if it wouldn’t hurt anyone else. But she didn’t have many options, and the ones she did, she was slowly running out of. Looking back at Neden who was a few yards away from her, she sighed. The angel was simply just laying there, motionless. Violet pulled herself together and began making her way towards Lucian. “You stupid girl...I will make sure, that your friends suffer before your very eyes.” he muttered as blood dripped from his lips. Splattering onto the concrete.

Violet eyed him as a small orb began to form in her hand, “You really need to shut up.” she snapped back, and forced her hand out in front of her in a feigned attempt at an attack, which Lucian easily moved out of the way from. “You should have just followed orders, and none of this would have happened. Your friend wouldn’t have gotten hurt if you had just listened like you were supposed to.” his voice came dripping out like poison as he grabbed her by the back of the neck and tossed her forwards, “Show me...Show me the potential. And maybe...I will let you and your friends live..” he panted heavily. Violet eyed him wearily as she slowly got back to her feet, “Is that all it will take? And you’ll leave?” she questioned as she could feel the sting of pain in her arms and legs from being thrown. “I can be...gracious.” he said with a sickening grin.

Violet gave him a small nod of her head, focusing on a small and slowly growing orb of energy in her hands. Slowly the orb began to grow, bigger and bigger the longer she focused on it, Lucian’s smile slowly spread across his face, “Beautiful…” he muttered, barely above a whisper. Violet’s eyebrows twitched for a moment, but kept her attention focused on the energy that she was slowly forming. “Violet! What...What are you doing?” Neden called as they had gotten back to their feet, and was slowly making their way towards them as they were only a few feet from Violet and the man. Neden kept holding their side as they walked, a few ribs must have broken on the impact earlier.

Violet looked back at Neden, a look on her face that Neden knew all too well, “I’m sorry.” she mouthed the words before looking back at Lucian with a grin on her face, her eyes darkening, “You will no longer be able to hurt anyone in Greythorne again.” she said as she added the rest of her energy and power into the orb. Neden tried to hobble forwards faster, knowing full well what was about to happen, “Vio, please….Don’t!” they called out, before a burst of light and energy flung them backwards, slamming into the side of a car, and everything went black for a few moments as all Neden could hear was a dull ringing in their ears. For what felt like hours, Neden tried to get back to their feet, but felt themselves catching onto the side of the car with one of their hands to steady themselves, whatever that sudden burst of energy was causing the feeling of being weak, or so they assumed. Neden looked around slowly as they tried to recollect themselves once more, being able to finally stand on their own. Looking around, Neden didn’t see much as they quickly observed their surroundings, all around was a large cloud of dust and smoke that seemed to be drifting off slowly and dissipating over time. “Vi?” Neden called out hoarsely. Their voice catching in their throat as they breathed in the debris that was floating about the street. “Violet, where are you?” they called out once more, before eyeing a figure a few feet away from them. “Viol-” Neden stopped as they noticed her body was hunched over through the dust. Neden hobbled over as quickly as they could, knowing full well that their leg was most likely shattered from the fall, but pushed through the pain as they collapsed beside Violet.

C’mon, Vi...Let’s...Let’s go home…” Neden said softly as they sat next to Violet. “Neden I...I’m sorry…” she answered softly. “Wha...what do you mean? You’re coming home with me.” they insisted. Violet shakily shook her head, “I...I’m not...Going anywhere...Neden I...I’m done.” her voice was weak and tired, barely able to move her head. Neden raised an eyebrow as they looked at her quizzically, “No...You...You just need to rest. You’ll be fine tomorrow, c’mon. Let’s go..” Neden said, slowly standing up, and gently reaching for Violet, who only seemed to fall back down which caused Neden to be pulled down next to her. “Neden I...I’m sorry…” Violet said softly as she rested her head against the angel’s arm. “N-no..You don’t need to be sorry. We’re fine, we just...Need to get you to a healer, you’ll be fine.” Neden said again, shaking slightly as they tried to keep themselves composed.

Violet let out a small sigh as she looked up at Neden, “I’m glad you came back...I’m glad that I got to see you, one last time, Neden…” she said with a small smile, her voice growing weaker as the two sat there. “You’re...You’re all my family...Of course I’d come back, I-Violet?” Neden looked down, to see Violet kept her head against their arm, slowly moving it away they watched as Violet slumped forwards silently. “Vi? Violet?” they called out, slowly grabbing her by the shoulders, “C’mon, you stay awake, you hear me? Violet? Don’t you do this to me, come on.” Neden insisted, shaking Violet slowly. “No no no, no...Violet c’mon, get up.” Neden pleaded as they slowly got to their feet, pulling Violet along. “You...You’re not allowed to die on me, Violet. C’mon.” Neden insisted once more as they continued to pull her body along with them, their arm buckled as they collapsed to their knees, too afraid to look at their friend. If they didn’t look, it wasn’t real. After what felt like hours of staying in that one position, Neden slowly looked over, to see Violet’s glazed over eyes staring up at the grey sky above.

Neden reached out over to Violet and shook her once, and then twice, and then three times, the sharp burn sensation slowly starting to creep out behind their eyes. Their eyes scanned over her body as they didn't know what came first, the waterfall of tears as Neden began to beg and plead with Violet to wake up, to be fine and for them to just be able to go home and act like nothing happened. All Neden wanted to do was get up and go back home with Violet, like they always did. Let things be normal, just once. That’s all they wanted.

Neden’s voice cracked and shattered, it was barely above a whisper as the angel yelled, pleaded, begged for her to just wake up. Wake up and yell at them. To call Neden an asshole. Let them know that everything was their fault, blame everything on them. Anything at all. Just not this. No one deserved to go out like that, especially not Violet. Not like this. Not now. Not when they had just come back to Greythorne and the two had just started to fix things. Neden felt their stomach turn in knots as they realized what had happened, that Violet was gone, and there was nothing they could do. Before Neden knew it, that feeling in their stomach returned, and they turned to the side and whatever contents of their stomach returned as they gagged and heaved. Gasping for breath as they slammed their fists into the asphalt. This couldn’t be happening, not like this.

Neden slowly looked up towards the sky, and from their throat erupted a blood curdling scream, full of pain and anguish as the tears continued to flow from their eyes. This was their fault, if they had just stayed with Rosie and Evelyn, and looked after Travis like they should have, this wouldn’t have happened. Maybe Violet would have been fine, and she would have been left alone. Their presence agitated Lucian, or whoever he was, and it was because of them, because they got in the way that things ended like this. Looking back at the body, Neden felt their hands shake as they struggled to breathe. Slowly, they pushed themselves forward, gently wrapping their arms around the small form of Violet, and picked her up in their arms as they got to their feet. Holding Violet in their arms, close to their chest, they turned and began to slowly make their way to someone who could maybe help. Someone had to be able to help, right?

The journey back to Jaiden’s house was tense, and Zoe spent most of it clutching Jaiden’s hand, focusing on staying alive and not getting in the way. She’d never seen so much violence, and she’d be lying if she said she wasn’t scared. But eventually they were in Jaiden’s home, and some part of Zoe felt immediately relieved. She nodded when Jaiden said they would be fine there, and just about jumped out of her skin when a sound came from the kitchen. The relief she felt when it turned out to be a cat was palpable. Jaiden introduced her to the cat, and Zoe couldn’t help but smile. In her few conversations with Alex, he had been willing to talk about anything besides himself, and that included how much Jaiden’s cats loved him. She wasn’t sure she believed it.

Zoe raised an eyebrow when Jaiden offered her something to drink. “I’m fine. Sit down.” She stared Jaiden down until she complied, and then asked, “Do you have a first aid kit?” Zoe assumed everyone living in Greythorne likely had some sort of medical supplies on hand. If they hadn’t before, they certainly should after the attacks started. She held up her index finger, “Tell me, don’t show me.” After she collected the medical supplies, she went into the kitchen. There was a broken glass on the floor, but it looked to be all larger pieces. Zoe picked it up (wouldn’t want a cat with a hurt paw) before she went on to gather what she’d need. Jaiden had told her to make herself at home, and she had no issues with rummaging through her things to see if she could find what she needed. A saucepan full of water, kitchen towels; standard stuff. She brought them over to where Jaiden was sitting, and seated herself beside the woman, “You didn’t really have any of the things I’d need to treat the burn. First priority is the wound, anyway.”

She held out a hand, saying, “Let me see your arm.” She was able to look over the wound more closely now. It looked like it hurt. She’d heard about what silver could do, of course, but she’d never seen it like this. Mostly, she just knew of witches accidentally picking up a piece of silver jewelry, or things like that.

She used her powers to move water to gently clean the wound, something she doubted the witch had ever experienced before. “Sorry,” She said, unprompted, “I can only be so gentle.” She patted the area dry, dressed the wound, and said, “There.” Zoe was far from an expert, but it would be better than leaving an open wound, and likely far easier than if Jaiden tried to bandage herself. She smiled at Jaiden and gave her hand a light squeeze, then went about cleaning up her mess, “Do you have a broom? Your cat broke something in the kitchen, and I’d hate for him to get hurt.”

Smell like I sound
I’m lost in the crowd,
And I’m hungry like a wolf
Straddle the line, in discord and rhyme,
I’m on the huntdown after you

Travis’ head pounded, and his mouth felt dry as he kept his eyes closed. “Ugh…” He grumbled out as his body felt tired and sore, but thirsty, for something. He heard voices around him and a tug on his arm as he laid down, but the voice sounded muffled and unintelligible, as well as adding to his headache. He slowly pulled himself, reaching around for something as he peaked out of his eyes, everything seeming brighter for a second, but also darker and blurry at the same time. “Where am I?” Trav asked, rubbing his eyes a bit before fully opening them. He looked forward and saw a sort of figure ahead of him kneeling on the ground. A sort of power overtook him, some sort of rage, trying to control him. The figure ahead of him looked like it began to speak, but whatever it was saying didn’t make any sense to him.

Another figure walked into view, this one spoke and Travis could understand a little bit better but still distorted. Saying something about if he was okay and something about a deer, a female voice. But Travis' attention only fixated on the first figure in front of him, the urge in his body spoke louder, telling him to attack, to bite. A smirk came across Travis’ mouth and sharp teeth poked out, he lunged forward towards the first being. But he was quickly tackled and pinned to the ground by the other figure in the room, the one with the female voice. A hit stung his face as he was on the ground, he replied to the hit with a sort of a hiss. “Feed! On the deer” She screamed at him, forcefully turning his head to what he assumed was the deer she spoke of.

The female got off of him and shoved him towards the animal, and Travis quickly obliged, digging his mouth deep into the animal and beginning to feast, not caring about being neat. It didn’t take him long to enjoy the warmth of the blood into his system, but enjoyed a little bit more than needed, but he was hungry, thirsty, more than he had been in his entire life, and the animal tasted amazing.

After a few moments, Travis slowly stopped and slowly blinked, his surroundings coming back into a clear view as he looked around. Back towards the two figures and realizing it was Rosie, and the vampire from before, Evelyn. He stared for a moment, confused at what happened, eyebrow raised, but then it all came to him and he realized what happened, his facial expression going from confused, to thinking as his gaze lowered to the ground. He let the vampire drink some of his blood, but passed out and now just woke up, hungry, and thirsty. He was now a vampire. And he had just tried to attack someone. Trav slowly looked up and realized that person was Rosie.

“Rosie… I’m… I’m so sorry. I didn’t know it was you. I just had an urge, something rushing through my body.” Travis spoke, looking down and seeing his now bloody hands, feeling something on his lips and licking it, tasting the blood and looking back at what he just feasted on, a deer. He slowly looked back up at the two, realizing Evelyn was the voice he could understand in his bloodlust, either because she was the one who turned him or because she was a vampire, either way he didn’t complain. “I didn’t mean to attack you...” He repeated out loud.
