welcome to greythorne. a small town on the coast of british columbia, the nearest city a three and a half hour drive away. you would never find greythorne unless you were looking for it. and even then, it's quite difficult to find. and that's the way it's inhabitants like it. greythorne has a secret. well, a secret kept only to the outer world.

for years, greythorne has been known as a safe harbour. a safe harbour for those not accepted anywhere else. for those that others would call "monsters". witches. shapeshifters. lycans. vampires. anything and everything that isn't human. anyone whose true form would make the rest of the world scream in horror.

but not in greythorne. it seems that supernatural creatures of all sorts, of all backgrounds and natures, end up in greythorne at one time or another. some stay there their entire lives. others leave in search of another safe home, while others take their chances in the real world. but greythorne is a home for everyone. something about greythorne means that humans find it practically impossible to find it, and never stay for more than a night. there is a small handful of humans in the town, those who know the secrets and are either related to or in a relationship with some of the supernatural creatures that live there.

the secrets of the town are closely held and closely protected. anyone who risks exposing the secret will be, at best, exiled, or at worst, killed. it sounds drastic but for many, greythorne is the only place they can survive, because their secrets are too visible to be hidden from the real world. they have no chance of survival. anything that threatens the safety of its residents will be dealt with and will be dealt with severely. and everyone knows that.

but there are some who know about this town who should not. some who are determined to burn this town to the ground and destroy every monster who walks the streets. these hunters have, for hundreds of years, kept their distance. but no longer. no more. a new leader has taken their helm and he fears no town. he fears no monster.

these hunters are human, but hunting often runs in the blood. they are fast and strong and possibly the only humans that may stand a chance against these creatures. they burn with a hatred and a fear that often burned in their families before them. and they are organising. and slowly, but surely, they march on greythorne.

greythorne is aware of this threat. or, at least, the elders are. but eager to avoid panic, they deign not to tell the common person. and so, everyone goes on with their day to day lives, able to feel the slowly growing sense of dread, but unable to identify its cause. but they all know. they all know something is coming. they all know. some just choose to ignore it.

and then the town is attacked in a brutal attack that leaves dozens dead and many more injured. they fight off the threat, but they know it's only a matter of time. something is coming, something which is too large to ignore. some just want to get on with their lives. others want to face the threat head on. but life must go on despite it all.

rules;

first things first, a reminder that god-modding is forbidden. god-modding typically means controlling a character without their player's permission. so when in doubt, ask. romance and violence are pretty much a given for a drama-driven rp like this, but keep it within site rules. most importantly, if things get steamy, either fade to black or bring it off site. there will be adult themes within the rp. if the content veers into uncomfortable or distressing, please PM me and we can work around it or i can ask other players to alter as necessary. please keep the drama to the ic. any issues arising among members of the rp should be dealt with over pm. reservations go in the ooc as they're easier to keep track of. real face claims only, please. characters can be as old as you like, but must be and must appear to be over 18. you have 48 hours to submit a WIP. that WIP can be a blank sheet, i just want something in to know you're still on board. you will then have 5 days after submitting your WIP to finish your character. i will grant extensions as long as you pm me. any further questions or issues, please pm me! i don't bite, promise. when reserving, i'd like your character's face claim, a 250px wide image of said face claim (don't worry if you can't find one, i'll figure something out :D), an aesthetic image (again, i can find something if you can't), their speech colour, what type of creature they are, and a brief description (take a look at my characters for inspiration!) i

i have set up a discord server for chatting and discussing relationships! you aren't obliged to join, but i would strongly recommend as that's where most of the discussion and plotting will take place, and it's also a great opportunity to get to know your fellow writers!

this is a continuation/reboot of safe harbour

phoenix woods | 24 | witch | josh ramsay | icat

phoenix has had his heart broken more than anyone else in greythorne. between perfect relationships turned toxic and falling for people who could or would never love him back, he's had a run of bad luck. but he's promised himself that he won't fall for anyone else, that things will change. he recently started his own business as a distraction, but it's more work than he initially expected.

ImageImage
rosie thompson | appears 23 | siren | hayley williams | icat

finding out you're adopted is bad enough. finding out you're adopted after discovering your supernatural abilities is worse. rosie is a child of the eighties who stopped aging a few years ago. her family moved away but she stayed in greythorne, the only place she'd ever felt at home. she's currently working on her doctorate in greek mythology, and is determined to protect the town at all costs.

ImageImage
Markus Valegood | Appears to 23 | Lycan | Tyler Hoechlin | Wolf's bane109

Once a well known and mannered man, Markus turned to a life of that of a recluse, and wanting to find a cure to get rid of the Lycanthropy that he was born with, and he considers a curse to himself and anyone else that was either born with it or turned against their will. He doesn't want much in life except to find the cure to help others and himself, as well as being left alone, but there's a voice in the back of his mind warning him of something. Something that can't be good.

ImageImage
Jaiden Price | Appears to be 21 | Witch | Ashley Burch | Wolf's Bane109

After a tragic accident resulting in both of her parents deaths Jaiden traveled for years trying to find a place to call her own, she found herself hearing whispers and rumors of a small town for people like herself, witches, Lycans, vampires, ghosts, all the like, but they were only rumors, right? Eventually she found the town that she heard so much about and has been in the town for a few years now, living her days out as a recluse in her home, too afraid to hurt anyone else ever again.

ImageImage
Violet Marsden | Appears to be 19 | Ghost | Mckenzie Foy | Wolf's Bane109

Violet once lived a life like any other human, until a tragic accident took place ending her life at a young age. She used to be one of the rare human residents in Greythorne, making her home and last place of residence in the most supernaturally occupied towns. She refuses to accept the fact that she had died and is unable to move on from this world until she finally accepts the fact that she is truly dead, but part of her feels if even then, she wouldn't be able to leave as if something else is keeping her stuck in an endless loop and she wants to figure out what it is.

ImageImage
Alex Garcia | 23 | Witch | Diego Boneta | Nonconformingrole

Alex has lived in Greythorne with his grandmother since he was little. Being attuned to the necromancy instead of an element, his mother didn't know what to do with him. Necromancy is still quite stigmatized, even among other witches, so he and his grandmother feel safest here, away from misunderstanding humans.

ImageImage
Zada min Albahr | Appears 25 | Mermaid | Emeraude Tobia | nonconformingrole

Zada moved into town a few years ago, seeking out a quiet place to relax after years of... less than reputable living. She’s devoured her share of hearts, and now desires to rebuild the family she’s lost, though in a less conventional manner. She wants nothing more than to live a quiet life, but recent events have made that quite difficult.

ImageImage

Elijah Patrov | Appears 29 | Vampire | Sean o'Pry | mombie

Elijah is an old and classic soul and has been a Vampire for almost 300 years now. He's been through it all - the death of lovers and friends, the joys of the same. One can fit a lot of tragedy and happiness in that lifespan, but it's too much. He just wanted to go someplace where he wouldn't have to deal with this pesky thing called love and friendship. He moved himself to Greythorne about ten years ago and has thus far enjoyed the Supernatural relationships and the quiet. Yet, the Mortals came anyway, and now he has to come out of his peaceful living to shed some hunter blood.

ImageImage

Camila De Santo | Appears 25 | Demon | Eiza Gonzalez | mombie

Camila goes by another name in Hell, Ultara. She was one of the many demons in hell that tortured unfortunate souls. However, centuries ago, she went up to the Earthly realm to bring her wayward brothers and sisters back home. Then she fell in love with a mortal, and as all these cliche love stories go - it all went to Hell pretty quickly. In the midst of trying to escape a forced return home, she found the little safe haven of Greythorne. She's been here for at least half a decade just trying to enjoy a little slice of life outside the brimstone before she is ultimately forced to go back.

ImageImage
travis graveson | 29 | human | scott eastwood | maci-care

travis has been undercover for the hunters for a year now, secretly sending them information. he was under the impression that the attack would simply be used to intimidate that nobody would be harmed. but when people were murdered, he began questioning everything. especially because he's become extremely fond of some of the so-called monsters...

Image Image
Neden Isimir | Appears to be 26 | Fallen Angel | Lynn Gunn | Wolf's Bane109 |

They were once a Guardian of Heaven and Earth, the best any had seen in over a Millenium. They were a master swordsman and knew battle strategies better than most had. But above all else, they had a soft spot for humans, which eventually lead to their downfall. On one such travel to Earth, they had met a mortal that they had fallen in love with, and upon being called back to Heaven, they had been given the ultimate ultimatum. Continue down the path they were headed and be outcast from Heaven to live as a mortal, or forget that wretched woman and continue on with their status. Neden chose to defy God himself, and as a sign of rebellion, they ripped their own wings from their back and cast them at his feet in a last-ditch attempt as the ultimate form of 'fuck you' and left heaven willingly. What was the point of serving someone that claimed to love every one of their creation, but force such brutality and cruelty? Since then, Neden has traveled the world and met plenty of people that have opened their eyes to exactly how cruel the lord was to the human race. Even furthering their certainty in their choice to rebel.

Now, they find themselves in Greythorne a few weeks after the attack that left the small town in ruin. They will do whatever they can to help rebuild this town and keep the locals safe, even if they have to do it from afar until their time to make themselves known, as they can feel something else coming. Something far worse than what happened that fatal day...

ImageImage
Kaylessa Valven | 22 | half-elf | zooey deschanel | Maci-Care

Kaylessa has been in Greythorne her whole life, quickly becoming the younger sister of most that life there, due to her young age, even in elven terms being young. Though she is known around for being the optimistic and cheery little elf that just wants everyone to be happy, and with her powers of healing she can also make sure everyone is "healthy happy" as she say. Due to growing up in Greythorne she could be described a little ignorant at times, but she doesn't take offense to this, and is known to seeing the best in all people and believing even the heartless and the soulless have good within them.

feel free to use your own character sheet but here's a wonderful one made by the lovely wolf's bane109!!

xxxit might just fool you
“Two lattes, a grilled chicken, chorizo and red pepper sandwich, and the Woods Special. Can I get my two favourite customers anything else?” Phoenix asked, provoking a giggle from the two old ladies in front of him. They confirmed that no, they were perfectly happy, and Phoenix told them to call him over if they did need anything. They were approaching closing time, but he knew that Daisy and Phyllis would be out well in time for them to close up. They came in at the same time every day, like clockwork, and always ordered a latte each. Sometimes they would treat themselves to a pastry or a cookie, other times, they would stick with a sandwich, others, just the coffee. But they’d been coming since he opened, and they had stayed coming, even after the attack. And that meant a lot.

And, bang on time, Daisy and Phyllis left, leaving them with plenty of time to clean up. Usually, Phoenix took as much time as he and the staff needed clearing up, but tonight was different. He didn’t rush anyone, but it seemed they were out in record time. Later that evening, there was going to be a town meeting of some kind to try and put a plan in place to prevent something like the festival attack happening again.

Phoenix would have been lying if he had said that the thought of it didn’t make him more than a little nervous. Following the attack, people had stopped gathering in public. The most people he’d seen in one place was his daily lunchtime rush, and even then, he could see the look of anxiety on their faces, the way they looked over their shoulders any time the bell on the door rang. People were afraid. But apparently this was a call to action. An attempt to try and take things into their own hands. And after everything that had happened, he couldn’t blame them.

In an attempt to distract himself, he’d spent the night before baking. He had filled a tray with his ultimate comfort food brownies to bring to the meeting with him, but he also had a smaller box balanced on top. Phoenix had said he’d swing by Alex’s with them to drop them in to his abuela, but in reality he didn’t want Alex to have to walk through town alone. Phoenix had been finding it hard, but it was nothing compared to Alex. And probably understandably so. Phoenix didn’t like to dwell on that night. The memory of seeing his best friend on the ground, covered in his own blood and the way that Phoenix had just… left still haunted him. He could only imagine what it was like to have been the one on the ground.

He called his goodbyes to the rest of the staff as they locked up, pulling his coat on and tucking his scarf into it. Winter had fallen as harsh as ever, and he knew it was a matter of time before it began to snow. At least this winter, he lived right above the cafe and had a functional heating system, meaning he didn’t have to venture too far into the cold every morning. He didn’t waste time walking the familiar path back to the house, eager both to keep warm and get out of the dark. He’d never been afraid of the dark. The things that went bump in the night were commonplace in this town and often showed up first thing to his cafe in search of their usual coffee and croissant, before going home to bed. But all that had changed now.

¡Hola, Abuela! Te traje unos brownies!” He called as he let himself in to Alex’s house. “I’ll leave them in the kitchen!” he added, switching back to English. He’d picked up a decent level of Spanish having spent a significant portion of his childhood in their house, but Abuela frequently bemoaned his grasp of grammar. He left the box of brownies into the kitchen and stopped to kiss the old lady on the cheek as he did so. The old lady chuckled and called out in Spanish, telling Alex that Phoenix was here.

Rosie had gone straight from class to the town hall to help set things up. She hadn't organised the meeting, hut she'd been spreading the word and encouraging people to come, despite how afraid they are. She'd drawn the line at telling her students, though. She wasn't risking any of them getting hurt if anything did go wrong. They were kids. This wasn't their fight, as much as they might have wanted it to be.

And even if she hadn't organised it, she'd somehow found herself being asked to speak. Maybe it was just because, if she could control a class of rowdy freshmen, she could control a crowd of scared townspeople. Or at least that was what she told herself to calm the slight anxiety. She dug her phone out of her bag and sent a few texts.

To: Markus
you better get your ass here tonight because i've somehow been roped in to speak

To: Zada
babe apparently i have to talk at this thing so you better be coming

Things had been rough on everyone since the attack. But sitting at the top of a classroom, staring down at the empty chairs of students who had been murdered... she'd gotten her freshmen to rearrange the classroom so those empty seats weren't there and so their classmates wouldn't feel as they were sitting in their fallen classmates' seats. Rosie had wondered if she would have been able to make a difference if she had gone. If she could have saved even one of their lives, would it have been better? Or would she have been beating herself up that she hadn't done enough? She took a deep breath and took her seat on the stage as people began to trickle into the hall. She couldn't dwell on that now.

Everything that followed after the attack was, a blur. Whether it was from never getting out of her bed unless Markus forced her to for her own health or the endless nightmares that caused her to never stay asleep longer than two hours a night. And when she did sleep, it usually ended up in awaking Markus or Violet, depending on who was home at the time. But it was all the same, she'd wake up from her usual nightmares that became a constant and would end up apologizing for disturbing them. She knew the attack shouldn't have had such an effect as it ened up having, but it was the losses that were the hardest. Innocent bystanders were murdered helplessly. Everything just melded into one, and became a sense of being numb and empty. She couldn't let her mind go back to that night, how everything was so good and happy, and then...

It was no use. Dwelling on what she could have-no should have done wouldn't bring anyone back. Especially not the one that was the hardest for her to accept. She found herself going into an even deeper spiral than before, and she could tell that nothing was ever going to be the same again. All she wanted to do was just curl up and never come out again. Outside was where danger and death was, and was full of things that took what she cared for most away. She appreciated that Markus had let her stay in her room as long as she wanted, but now with this meeting that would take place tonight, he forced her to go. He told her it'd be good for her to get out and see some friends. And that he wouldn't leave her alone. That much he would make sure of. She refused until he more or less guilt-tripped her into it, especially how Rosie and all of her friends would be going. She was irritated but said the only way she'd go is if she could bring the dog and that she got to hold her the whole time. No if's or buts. And after much debate, he agreed. Jaiden now found herself having to decide on an outfit and just chose something random and threw it together. She didn't care much for her appearance but decided to take a shower and put on some makeup. Might as well look somewhat presentable she thought. After finally getting ready and waiting for time to tick by, it was about time for them to start heading out.

Her boots gently echoed down the hallway and into the kitchen as she turned the corner, crouching down and scooping up a small and fluffy brown fluffball. She held Coco gently, petting and scratching her under the chin and behind her ears as she looked around. "Markus? I'm ready when you are." she called out, her voice was somewhat raspy and shaken, clearly having been crying a short while ago as it was evident by her reddened eyes and raspy voice. She was a mess, and simply wished that all of this was some nightmare that she could wake up from any moment. That all of her friends would be back, that Greythorne wouldn't be in its current state, and that she wouldn't have to mourn the death of someone that was taken away so soon.. Greythorne was her home, and she wasn't going to let anything harm it or its people again.

Markus had done his best in the following weeks after the attack to do what he could. He had seen plenty of towns attacked, but none like this. Sure, the attacks he had seen left towns in ruin. But they always came back, and stronger than ever. But with Greythorne, it was different. This town was far too peaceful and had no one to protect it if things went south like they did. It wa so unexpected and sudden. There was no way of predicting it. But part of him blamed him for not seeing the signs. Every bone in his body was telling him, warning him of it. But he hoped for the best and was far too hopeful. Far too naive and single-minded, and he hated himself for it. He felt like he was responsible for the attack, that he should have been more careful and guarded. He should have done so many things differently, but he didn't. He found himself and a few of the others cleaning the town and putting it back together as well as they could. He made it a priority for him and some of the other night dwelling creatures to scan the perimeter of the town and keep posts at night in case of any suspicious activity. But nothing was out of the ordinary, but that's what worried him. Plenty of the Hunters escaped, and he knew they'd come back, not when, but he knew they would and he would do everything in his power to be ready for it.

He did his best to make sure that everyone was well looked after and taken care of. And if they needed any help, that they made sure to go to him and he'd see what he could do. One of the first people on his list was Jaiden. Before the attack, they were somewhat friendly, mainly staying to themselves. But when they talked, there was never any hostility or resentment. They were both broken people with a lot of inner demons, and it only became worse after the attack. Markus made sure to give her a place to stay as he could tell she was going down in a spiral that if she was left unattended, something bad could have happened. For the fist two weeks, he could hear her crying from across the house late at night, and could have sworn that he could hear her talking to herself. But as he listened closely, he realized she was talking in her sleep, replaying events from that night all over again, even in her sleep. And if he had to guess, she replayed those thoughts in her head when she was awake, and no one deserved to be haunted with regrets. Especially not her. He made it a point to be there at the house more, if Violet wasn't staying there when it was his time for the nightly patrols.

He had received a text that morning from Rosie telling him that he better be there as she had to speak at the meeting. He rolled his eyes and had given her a reply that he couldn't exactly remember what he said. But it was more or less saying that he'd try as he had someone to look after. He went about his day as usual and as time finally came, he saw Jaiden slowly come out of her room and immediately pick up Coco. A small smile appeared for a moment as he looked at her and saw that she looked better. He could tell she had been crying, but he wasn't going to say anything about it. He learned to not talk about her emotions, at leats not in that context. He simply wrapped an arm around her as they walked out the door, "Everyone will be happy to see you. It's gonna be a good time, Jai." he said with a small smile as he kept an arm around her waist as the two made their way through the woods and into town, and then finally saw as the town hall came into view. He wondered who would be there already, knowing full well that some would, such as Rosie and possibly Violet. Seeing as she had been early to these things of late, when she didn't flake out last minute, which he hoped wasn't the case.

The following weeks were a mess of events. Everything had gone by so fast and was often a blur for Violet. From what she could remember about the Festival, it was a mess. From seeing Alex on his back in a pool of his own blood to the absolute chaos that unfolded until everything just became black and silent. After that, she couldn't remember much, aside from when she came back from...wherever she was. All she knew that since she came back, things were different. She herself was different. She didn't phase through things like she used to, wasn't invisible to the others, and could do anything she wanted and more. It was an odd sensation, as ever since she came back she felt...hallow? Like, a constant pit of emptiness hung around her like an encroaching shadow and she didn't know what to do, or how to feel. She wanted to talk to her friends, but something in her told her not to. And that they already had enough to worry about, and her problem, whatever it was would only add to that.

Since she came back, Violet had a new sense of urgency. She couldn't tell exactly why, but it felt like she was on limited time and she couldn't make any mistakes or prolong anything that she shouldn't. She had stayed with Markus in the last two weeks as he asked if she could look after Jaiden since he would be staying out during the night on occasion. At first, she was rather hesitant as the two weren't exactly close, they were friends, but nothing like Markus and her were. Or even Phoenix, Alex, and Jaiden. She knew they'd never be that close and it was fine. All that mattered was that she did what Markus asked, and she was there for Jaiden. And their relationship grew to be better than Violet intended. They shared the same sense of humor and taste in music, as well as drawing and movies. Something they could bond over and help distract Jaiden from reality. Now, Violet found herself in one of the local stores as she was prepared to bring some food to the meeting tonight that Markus reminded her of. She wanted to do something nice, and bought some muffins and brownies from the local bakery due to some of the money Markus gave her. After she was ready to make her way over to the town hall, she gathered her things and began the long walk to the meeting. She'd be late as she hadn't expected things to take as long, and she knew she'd hear it from Markus, but it'd be fine as long as she made it up with food.

To say that the attack had put a few of the residents on edge was an understatement, especially for someone that was constantly on edge about everything. Especially one individual that took it upon themselves and a few other willing townsfolk to be the guardians that tended to watch from afar. They weren't very close to some of the townspeople, and that made it easier to blend into the background and keep out of the public eye. If they kept to themselves and to the shadows, no one would really notice them unless someone knew where to look. Nightly patrols were nothing new as Neden and their small group of other creatures kept watch over the town. A few Dryads, a few nymphs, and even a lycan and vampire. And as of recently since the attack, they had taken it more seriously and recruited more people. One of the better-known locals whose name was Markus decided to join up with their small rag-tag team of misfits and became a rather useful and informative member. He knew where the safest places to go were, and where to avoid. They kept posts every night and would be updated on any activity the next morning, even having a few day faring creatures join their ensemble, mainly more dryads and pixies and fairies. Those that could blend in with nature in a moment's notice, as well as pass along their information through the wind and other creatures.

While no one would say that it was a perfected way of keeping the town safe, it would do its best until a better plan was devised, something they'd try to bring to attention to the others if they needed to. But the small group were doing just fine, and if no one knew of their plans, there was no need. The last thing they needed were people freaking out again and cause mass panic. Seeing how the attack had impacted a few of the others, it was no surprise that Neden took it even more seriously in the past few days, especially with a town meeting coming. They'd make sure that some of their members were spread out around the town, and if anything happened they were to report back to them as soon as they could.

Neden had been patrolling the town since before the sun even came up as they were atop one of the building roof's. Carefully sitting out of eyesight as they were perched atop the shingled roof. The sound of their soft footsteps echoed as they stood up and jumped down from the two-story building with ease. After dusting off their outfit they combed their fingers through their hair as they began walking. From what they remembered, a meeting was planned for the night, and seeing how time was growing near they made sure that everything was in proper order. Shifting through their coat pockets they found that their pen was still nestled nicely in the pocket by their hip. Well, at least it appeared to be a common household pen to the common onlooker. And it even functioned as a pen for common use as well as blending it and being anything but out of the ordinary. But if one was careless or curious, they very easily could have been careless and activated the pen's true potential. One of the townsfolk did that mistake and nearly took their head off the week prior, even after being warned by Neden countless times not to mess with something that isn't theirs. But what did they expect from a witch that had a knack for shiny things. After checking in on a few of their informants, making sure that everything was okay they headed off to the townhall. Seeing plenty of the people that they recognized from around town, they easily ducked in through one of the back doors and entered the meeting hall.

Neden found plenty of empty seats in the front row, but that wouldn't do. Not now anyway. If anything were to happen, they'd need to be in the back and that was where they made a b-line. But not before looking up at the stage and seeing an all too familiar face. A small smile overcame them as the gave the female siren a small smile and nod of their head, as well as an awkward wave as they continued on with their way until they arrived at the back of the room. Leaning against the wall they dug their hands into their pockets, making sure everything was there. Their pen, a switchblade, and a few daggers were all in their right side pockets, and to their left were a few...deterrents for other creatures or beings. Some salt, sage, charms, and other items if the occasion ever arose. They were a bit too paranoid and a little overboard, but it was best to be prepared, even if nothing happened. Their eyes scanned the room as more familiar and unfamiliar faces filled the room, slowly growing more uneasy as the room filled. They didn't do well in large crowds, but if they needed to they could put on a brave face and act like they were fine, while in all reality they had a small bit in their stomach. And they did the best they could to ignore it.

Since the attack, Travis had only reported back to the organization once, and he wasn’t exactly happy with what happened, telling off people and throwing a few chairs as some people tried to make excuses while others weren’t sorry for what they did, one of his more spoken out coworkers bragging about how she easily killed a fae and enjoyed the scent of their mystical blood. He was quickly promised it wouldn’t happen again by his supervisors and to just continue gathering information, that they need to do more and that his job wasn't done yet. As he was walking out one of the higher ups stopped Travis and reminded him why he was doing this, these creatures were monsters, and they killed innocents, including his parents. Trav just nodded and headed back to Greythorne.

Over the time Travis spent many nights at the pub after closing up his store, along with many other people trying to grieve over what had happened and most days helping clean up the chaos from the festival and offering help whenever he can, though some people that would previous shop at his store were now weary of him, not because they suspected him, but because the attackers were humans, and so was he; guilty by association. Though after a couple weeks people tended to stop giving him a side look and continue their business at his and him trying to just be kind and nice, not caring about gathering much information over the last couple weeks, but he did know about a town meeting happening.

The night of the meeting Travis had started closing shop early, it didn’t matter too much as business has been slower since the attack. He finished sweeping and put his broom back in the closet and started locking everything up, double checking his apartment before throwing on a jacket and heading to town hall.

While walking Travis pulled out his trusty silver flask that he kept on him and took a swing before tucking it back into his inside jacket pocket. Though as he did so he stopped and took a look around, he felt as if someone, or rather in the town of Greythorne’s case, something was watching him. He scanned between buildings and bushes but couldn’t spot anything, but could've been any sort of supernatural. Trav sighed and just continued walking before getting to town hall a little early from the meeting and going in through the side door.

When he entered the room he snuck around to the back wall to just observe and see what was going on, as well as minimize eyes on him, alot of the creatures here are on edge and with it not many humans came to the town meeting in fear of being possibly targeted or discriminated against. He noticed certain people were already here, Rosie on stage and giving a slight wave, the two were on good terms and he had offered to help set up but she politely declined. And by the amount of floral jewelry and nature trinkets people were wearing assumed the little half-elf Kaylessa was somewhere, always trying to cheer people up.

When he leaned against the back wall he did notice another familiar face across the way also sticking to the back, Neden, and watching them out of the corner of their eye digging through their pockets. Trav quickly assumed one of two things, either something to fidget with, or some sort of weapon. Which if the town wasn’t already on edge he would’ve also been carrying something to protect himself, but for now all he had was his silver flask, which he took another swig out while crossing his arms, smirking when he saw Kaylessa run in and quickly go up front, chuckling a little bit to himself.

The night of the attack Kaylessa was scrambling, trying to help as many people she could and used up a majority of her energy doing so. She spent the next two days in a deep sleep that left some people worried for her, but when she woke up, she still had a smile on her face, even though she did feel sad for not saving more people. Over the weeks she tried cheering up people of the village but for once people wouldn’t smile due to their grieving and Kaylessa became a little secluded, spending most of her time in the surrounding woods and just taking time to think to herself and figure out what she would do.

When the information came out about a town meeting, Kaylessa spent the whole day collecting various flowers, leaves and other things from the surrounding area and making crafts that she would try to hand out at the meeting, maybe the slightest gift petting smiles on faces.

Kay arrived at the front of the building with a small table littered with trinkets made from feathers, necklaces with numerous rocks, colorful flower crowns and other small handmade knick-knacks about 30 minutes before people were going to arrive to get ready. While most people had jackets and other pieces of clothing to keep them warm in the colder weather, Kaylessa just wore a simple dress with numerous handmade jewelry and a pink and blue flower crown, another benefit of her heritage and powers is that most weather effects don;t bother her like others.

As people started to arrive Kay insisted them taking whatever they want and was glad to see a few smiles were made by her gifts. Though when she saw Violet she let out a little squeak and stopped her from taking one of the flower crowns on the table. “Wait! I made a special one for you!” She just about shouted as she turned around and dug through her small cart of boxes before pulling out a special crown she made just for Violet. It was made out of mainly violets and other small trinkets and held together by a woven thread of twigs and grass. “Here, I thought you would like it.” Kay said with a bright smile on her face holding out the crown to Violet.

Kaylessa was running low and about to head inside when she heard a familiar voice approaching and turning to see her favorite witch, Alex, also walking with Phoenix. “Alex!” She said as she ran around the table and hugged Alex. She hadn’t seen him in awhile and only heard about what happened to him at the festival. “Glad you’re okay and made it.” She said as she let go and took a step back. She quickly blushed and giggled as he complimented and flirted with her. “Well you’re looking great, would look even cuter wearing this." Kay said as she quickly grabbed a flower crown and jumped up putting the crown on Alex's head, taking a couple tries.

Kaylessa packed up her remaining thinks and pulled them closer to the building before walking in. She quickly skipped to the front and waved over Rosie and tossed her a necklace made with feathers from numerous birds and flowers. Flashing her a smile and turning around and taking one of the few remaining seats left, meeting starting soon.

After the attack, Alex spent a solid three days alone; he'd locked himself away in his bedroom, let his phone die, and only came out when he could no longer take the silence and solitude of his own grief and fear. Though he couldn't clearly remember much of what had happened between the attack and waking up the next morning. He vaguely remembered the text messages and calls he received, and ignored, between the attack and his phone dying; but when he finally charged it back up after those few days, he'd been completely overwhelmed. He'd only sent a message of any kind to three people: Phoenix, Jaiden, and his boss. In that order. His parents had clearly been updated by his abuela, and only his father bothered trying to reach out to him again in the weeks after the attack, though Alex wasn't sure if he found it comforting or not.

Alex returned to work faster than most of the people in his life would have liked. There was a lot of work to do after the attack, and as difficult as it was, Alex threw himself into it, working hard to give everyone they'd lost the best care he could. He felt a certain amount of guilt: he'd been having dreams and feelings about something terrible for weeks leading up to the attack, but he'd never thought anything like that would happen. Who would have?

He hadn't been sleeping well, not that it was unusual for Alex to not be sleeping, but every time he closed his eyes, he found himself back there. Somewhere between alive and dead, and running for his life. That he could remember clearly, and the dreams were so vivid he wondered if they weren't real, if he was going back there in his sleep. It seemed impossible, but impossible things happened every day in Greythorne.

Now Alex sat on his bed, half-dressed, thinking up excuses to get himself out of going to the assembly. On one hand, he genuinely wanted to hear what the others in the town had thought up to prevent another attack; it was an obvious concern of his, but he didn't know if he could handle it. He'd had a full-blow panic attack the day before when his abuela had touched his arm to try and get his attention. He didn't want to have yet another public incident. He didn't want to be that person.

He heard the front door open. Phoenix was there. Alex wondered if he just ignored him, if he would leave. Somehow, Alex doubted it. He stood up, and pulled a tee shirt over his head, calling out, "¡Espérame! Voy enseguida." After his grandmother. As soon as he opened his door his puppy, (who seemed to not understand that he was a ghost, though Alex couldn't blame the dog for not grasping the concept) dashed down the hall, straight towards Phoenix. "He can't pet you, you know." He called after the ghost, who ignored him in favor of barking and running between- and through- Phoenix's feet, which Phoenix was blissfully unaware of. Alex smiled at Phoenix, though it didn't reach his eyes, and said "I'm almost ready to go, just let me-" He gestured vaguely at himself as he walked into the kitchen, grabbing a sweatshirt that he shouldn't have left on the table, and pulled it over his head. He turned and kissed Abuela on the cheek, before turning for the door, calling, "We'll see you there, right? You're just waiting on Louise?" Over his shoulder. The woman shot Phoenix a quick look, as if to say 'good luck', but she didn't say anything other than to briefly confirm that was the case.

Alex grabbed his keys and his coat, and headed out the door, shrugging on his coat as he walked down the sidewalk. He only spared a sideways glance to make sure Phoenix was following behind, but he knew he would be. He didn't have much to say, so he shoved his hands into his pockets as they walked. He kept an eye out, scanning for anything unusual in the growing darkness. He had tried to avoid going out after dark since the attack, though he had found himself braving the dark to go to the bar a few times, almost more in an attempt to pretend things were normal.

At one point, once they had nearly arrived, Alex reached out and grabbed Phoenix's arm, pulling them both to a halt. It was only Carl Peters, crossing in front of them. Alex had known the older man his entire life. Alex quickly dropped his death grip on Phoenix's bicep, "Sorry," He quickly mumbled, hardly loud enough for even Phoenix to hear, "I don't know what I... I panicked." He didn't dwell on it, picking up the pace to the building. He couldn't wait to be back indoors.

He finally seemed to find his voice on that last leg of their walk, clearing his throat, "Sorry I haven't..." He trailed off, as if unsure of what exactly he was apologizing for, before saying, "Things in town are just so weird, now. You know?" He glanced over at Phoenix, they'd seen each other since the attack, of course, but most of the effort had been delegated to Phoenix's shoulders. Alex felt like a shell of himself, and maybe he looked like it, too. He didn't know.

Kay's voice calling his name made Alex smile, it was bright and genuine, and he returned her hug enthusiastically. His face fell slightly when she said she was glad he was okay, but he recovered quickly, flashing her a charming smile and saying, "How could I be anything but perfect with you around?" He took a short moment to take in her appearance before leaning in slightly, as if to tell some sort of secret, "You look fantastic, as always." He couldn't help but laugh as she struggled to put the flower crown on his head, and leaned in to kiss her cheek before saying, "Thank you. I love it."

He would ditch the thing as soon as he could without hurting her feelings, but it didn't hurt anything to leave it on for now.

As they walked inside, Alex suddenly realized that he desperately didn't want to be stuck sitting in a crowd of people, and turned to look at Phoenix, "Where do you want to-" He stopped, seeing a seat towards the back, on the end of a row, and changed his mind about asking Phoenix's opinion, "Here okay?" He asked, as he sat down, clearly not overly concerned with his friend's opinion.

After the attack, Zada hadn't known what to do. She hadn't lost anyone she was particularly close to, though her neighbor's house was now vacant, and seeing the dark windows every evening was occasionally heartbreaking, so she just carried on her life like normal. The only notable additions to her daily routine were helping to clean up the town, and trying to become more a part of it. Greythorne was her home, no matter how she felt about some of it's residents, and she didn't want to lose it. She hadn't felt so at home since she left the ocean, all those years ago, and she wasn't willing to lose it.

She'd kept herself busy that day with chores around the house, and an extra long bath. She was going to have to skip out on her swim because of the meeting, but she didn't mind, she wanted to find a way to help the town, even if her contributions were small. Especially if she got to kill more hunters, or even if it just let to their demise. Perhaps vengeance wasn't the most helpful motivator, but Zada had found that it served humans perfectly well, so she had never once felt guilty for it.

She was just getting ready to head to the meeting when she read Rosie's text, and didn't bother to reply, instead opting to perfect her lipstick. It would be more helpful if she arrived early enough to get a good seat, where Rosie could maybe easily glance on a friendly, and hopefully reassuring face. For all her flaws, Zada was nothing if not supportive of those she cared about, and she cared deeply for Rosie.

It wasn't a long walk to town hall (it wasn't a long walk to most places in town), but Zada still found others shuffling inside ahead of her. She smiled at Kaylessa, who was handing out trinkets by the door. It seemed trivial, and somewhat childish, but Zada knew she had good intentions. The people of this town could use some cheering up, and there was probably no better person for the job. Zada really had no use for any of it, but picked up a little trinket, ensuring it wasn't something meant to be worn, and thanked the girl as genuinely as she could.

Once she made it inside, she quickly pushed her way up to the front, taking a seat and looking up at Rosie. She flashed her friend a hopefully reassuring smile, she could never tell, as she had been told that she looked somewhat terrifying when she smiled with her teeth. She settled in, knowing she would have to wait a few moments while people trickled in, and she hoped that no one would talk her her. Her general vibe was normally enough to deter people from her presence, but this town had done nothing if not surprise her.

The town bitch, though it was not necessarily an earned title if one were to ask her, walked in like she had one of those heavy metal themesongs. She, of course, was not only late but dressed with the appropriateness of a late night out with all her curves for the eyes to drink in. But that was just Camila, love or hate her. She had made a show of opening the doors with a force unseen, pulled off her sunglasses as she steps through the threshhold, and had her very in auspicious Hell Hounds. All three walked behind her; eyes black as the abyss, coat shining, the rotten egg scent of sulfur for the ones withh those pesky supernatural senses.

Since the attack, she has actually done a few things to earn her town bitch title for once. The big daddy of Hell knew that she was here now, so it was only a matter of time before she was forced back home. Camila might as well as enjoy her last day among the Earthly realm - a place that people would perhaps never suspect her to fall in love with. There had been too much drinking, sex, drugs, being awful to people. She figures that this town expects it, so why the fuck not just live up to the hype of her name? She could tell who she bothered with the things she did, and who couldn't possibly care less about her actions. To ruination, she says. Live because she's going to be out of here. To Hell with all the folks that hate her because they did so before. Literally - she will see half these fuckers there when they finally day.

"Custodi in praetorium," she commands her hounds, and at least two vanish in a wisp of black smoke. Presumably to guard the town hall, as anyone that knew Latin would likely be able to discern that she told then to go guard the Hall. Just in case. Camila was no longer taking that many chances. Not that she cared about anyone else. She'd just really love to know if the Morningstar was going to make a show of things, and Camila didn't quite like surprises.

Her first victim, or victims depending on how one sees her actions, was Alex. After all, he was in the back row and so readily available for her. She slipped behind his seat and let her cool hands grasp his jawline on either side, "Hola mi amor. Estas guapo." Camila both greeted and complimented him. With her eyes pinned on Phoenix, she tilted Alex's head just a tad and licked the side of his neck in that slow, seductive manner. She ended it with a flirty kiss to the side of his jaw, released him, and fluttered on to claim the next unfortunate soul on her radar. That was just about everyone right now.

Travis was next, and she moved toward him like a predator to prey and bit her bottom lip. If it weren't for the fact that she was a fucking evil and vindictive bitch right now, one could say that she was giving off a playful innocent expression. Since he's leaning against the back wall, she just invites herself to press against him and smells the side of his neck while grasping the collar of his shirt with both hands. "You know, soldier boy, you're starting to smell a little bit like Hell," she whispers to him. "You used to smell so... different." She locked eyes with him for a moment, "Can you feel it?" After the inquiry, she kisses his lips, released him, and slipped away. She wasn't going to stick around. Something was off about him, but it helped that she just didn't care right now. At all.

Zada was last on her list, but she was less likely to be a dick to the Mermaid than she would be to all the stupid men in this town. As the Demon's hills click-clacked with command down the aisle, she blew people kisses or flipped them off - whichever one they deserved they got. She turned into the row with Zada and made herself very comfortable at her side. Camila practically leaned on her, one of her hands falling onto the woman's closest thigh. "We could ditch this joint, you know. Go for a dip in the lake. Naked," she offered. The demon's host body smelled a little like booze, even if she wasn't drunk. Buzzed is all she ever got, and that is a word well-suited for this time.

Her remaining Hell Hound prowled the town hall, and the other two were dispatched elsewhere. They left the Supernatural folks alone for the most part and were content to just roam quietly.

xxxsome things have changed
xxxwe don't fit like we used to
xxxit's hard to ignore if it's worth the wait
xxxit might just fool you
Alex had been like this for weeks but it didn’t hurt any less to see him like this. The hollow smile did nothing to reassure Phoenix, but he returned the smile anyway. Phoenix returned the look that Abuela gave him with a small reassuring smile, promising to look after him.

Alex didn’t wait particularly for Phoenix, only glancing to make sure he was following, but Phoenix caught up easily. It was like being with somebody else entirely as they walked in silence. Before the attack, there had seldom been a silence between them, always filled with laughter or teasing. Now, Phoenix knew not to try and fill the space with noise. Even he found it hard to know what to say.

The contact of Alex’s arm pulling him to a stop shocked Phoenix out of his thoughts as he mentally prepared himself for an attack, but he saw nothing. Just Carl. Phoenix took one look at Alex’s face and thought for a moment about suggesting they ditched the meeting and went back to his apartment instead. And then Alex started moving again, apologizing in more of a mumble than anything. Alex actually spoke as they reached the town hall. Phoenix just shrugged. “It’s okay. I get it. Everything’s different and weird and… Just… know I’m always here, okay? Even if you just want to get drunk or drink tea, or… I dunno, sit in silence on the floor. Any time of day or night.” They’d been friends long enough that he knew he didn’t have to say it, but sometimes a reminder was needed. Alex clearly wasn’t in a great frame of mind right now. And besides, there was plenty of nights when Phoenix found himself awake at three, four, five in the morning, unable or unwilling to go back to sleep.

Phoenix was glad that the first person they ran into was Kay. It was hard not to smile in her presence, and her energy was practically infectious. Her outfit put them all to shame as they huddled in their jackets and scarves. He left the two of them for a moment as he went to put the tray of brownies down for people to take as they pleased. He got back just as Kay put a flower crown on Alex’s head, struggling to balance it on his curls, and Phoenix couldn’t help but laugh. Then she bounded away, and Phoenix could see the slight change in Alex’s expression. He wasn’t in a flower crown mood, but Phoenix knew he didn’t want to hurt Kay’s feelings. And so Phoenix very obviously reached over and stole the flower crown from his head, balancing it on top of his hair instead.“Bullshit, we all know I’m the cuter one wearing this,” he declared.

Alex started to ask wear Phoenix wanted to sit, before darting to an unoccupied seat.“This is perfect. I’m afraid if we sit any closer to Rosie’s skirt without sunglasses, we might do permanent damage,” he joked. The exact location of the seat hadn’t escaped Phoenix either, but if he was being honest, he was happier here too.

He caught that familiar, sickening scent before he saw her. He didn’t even turn around to acknowledge her, not wanting to grace her with a reaction. But he could feel her eyes on him, see her out of the corner of his eye. But instead he kept his eyes forward, trying desperately to keep his expression neutral despite the twisting in his stomach and the anger that rose within him. The only outward reaction was a clenching of his jaw as Camila kissed Alex’s jaw. She slunk away and Phoenix had to resist the temptation to glare at her as she did so. Thankfully, a distraction came in the form of Rosie getting to her feet and walking to the podium, the room starting to fall silent at that single action.

The hall filled up relatively quickly, which Rosie was pleasantly surprised by. She spotted Kay bounding around, handing out flower crowns and trinkets. The small smiles they produced didn’t escape her notice, and that meant a lot. People looked scared, and confused, and angry. A smile wouldn’t change or erase any of that, but it was a start. It made things seem a little less terrible. Kay quickly ran up to the front and threw her a necklace, which Rosie caught and pulled it over her head, before going to stand at the podium as the last few stragglers came in.

“Good evening, everyone,” she said, and silence fell over the room. “Okay, wow. This isn’t high school English, don’t worry, guys, you can relax,” she added, getting a few giggles out of the crowd. “It’s wonderful to see so many of you guys here. Thank you to the wonderful Kaylessa for these trinkets and to everyone who brought anything. I know that things have been scary… and I know people are afraid. But we rallied around tonight, and that’s a good start. We fought them off once and we can fight them off again. So, let’s get this started. First, Chief Kaner is going to discuss what the police force is doing and what volunteers are needed for them, then I’ll open the floor back up for a discussion. So please welcome Chief Kaner to the stage and hold any questions until the end.”

Rosie took her seat as the police chief stood up to drone on about increased vigilance and whatever. He had never been the most engaging of speakers, but Rosie had long ago perfected the art of listening to boring speakers. Her students tried, but some were always more engaging than others. It was only as the crowd gave polite applause that she came back to herself, getting to her feet. "Thank you, Chief Kaner. So, now that we're aware what the police are doing, it's time to discuss what we can do. So, first up is... voluntary patrols. I'm aware some have already been running, so would anybody like to fill us in and let us know what we can do to help?" She asked, glancing down towards Markus. She highly doubted he would speak up, but maybe someone else might.

The man was typically known for his punctuality, but he was late tonight. His broad frame wandered down the street; his figure moving along like a shadow floating quietly and darkly beneath the soft light of the moon. His hands were in his pockets and strking blue eyes flitting from here to there. Another black figure dashed in the dark, but he knew it to be the Demon's Hell Hound, so he pressed on and continued down the pathway down these lonlier town streets to the slightly busier townhall.

Since the attack, he has felt very much the same. When one is such a hunted species as he, there is no surprise that the Mortals always came. They destroyed everything, and it was only ever a matter of time. The Supernatural were never safe - not in a thousand years past, not in a hundred - not in this modern day. This was the life he was used to, and he has grown understandably callous to the casualties that come with this. It wasn't his fault. It was simply that life was so tragic that tragedy has become his sense of normalcy, thus this, to him, was the way of the world. For others, however, perhaps it was not. Everyone thought this would remain their home unscathed by mortal persecution, and that was their own fault. He felt bad for them, sure, but there was nothing he could do to ease anyone's pain. Not that they'd listen given his rather unearned reputation.

Just as the townhall came into view, though the humdrum inside has been playing into his acute sense of hearing for a while now, he noticed Markus and Jai outside. He pulled his hands from his pockets and braced their lower backs, some strange gust of wind parting the doors. Elijah always had this gravely calm tone of voice; masculine and gutturally harsh with notes of his mother-tongue. It resonated gruffly, yet strangely... melodic and calming. There were many ways to describe his voice, but confidence, command, and ease were the easiest to remember. "Going in?" It was one of those inquiries that might normally be accompanied by a smile, but instead, he gently guided them both through the doors with the placement of his hands. Was it one of those strange protective things that were subtle in nature? Perhaps. It was dark outside, and the streets were dismal as the town gathered.

Once the trio made their way into the Hall, the Vampire took a moment to take in Rosie's words. After the blurbs by the Chief and Rosie were done, he simply walked down the aisle. His eyes hardly met anyone else's, and he continued because who was going to stop him? No one. No one really liked him. Everyone stayed away from him. He liked it that way. It could stay. They could be afraid of him or call him what they will, but he didn't care about any of it. He's too old for the petty drama. Though he did sneak a side-peek toward Zada, but swiftly drew it away. He was just checking to make sure she was still there, even though he could smell her. Everyone has their own unique smell.

His steps ceased in front of Rosie, and two hands were placed upon her as gentle as a man could be; one of her elbow and another at her shoulder. He didn't smile, there was no expression to his otherwise serious features, but he tugged at her with something that could be easily misconstrued as asserting his masculinity over her. He never thought about it that way, but he was an old fart and she knew that he didn't mean any ill by it. There was the slightest hint of a smile for her in that fleeting second he believed no one was looking, however.

Once she was out of his way, he took his place in the front of the Hall. His hands grasped either side of the podium and he finally looked at each and every being in the room. He stopped at no one in particular as he commenced to speak with his deeply rumbling and harsh Slavic tongue, "They will come again - we know this because history always repeats itself. This is nothing new to some of us, but it is always tragic. This would be the time to put aside petty differences and settle the feuds in our community - to stop being each other's enemies." This time, his gaze falls pointedly on Camila. He likes her, but damn - she's such a handful and she's grown particularly less manageable and more agitating.

"We have many tools at our expense - more than our enemies if you ask me. They are stronger than mortals, but we are stronger. It is in our nature. There is a power-imbalance, and we hold the advantage. The problem is that we didn't know they were coming, but now we know. If you think you can't help, then you're going to die. You're going to cause someone else to die. Everyone in this town is a cog in the machine that runs it, and it's our duty to defend it."

He shifts away from the podium for a moment and then steps beside it, "If you own a business, perhaps you can help create a rallying point as a place of safety for those who can't fight. The town hall, for one, is easy to secure with the proper people. The bar and other stores - use them to stow weapons or tools that will assist us in fighting back. You may think that these people are gone, but I can assure you that they will return. These are zealous people that can trace their legacies spent persecuting others back centuries. But they do not always win, and we do persist. Speak up. I, for one, am out from sundown to dawn. Camila has her dogs on patrol day and night. There are people that will protect you even if you think they will not. A little less self-pity and more preparation will judge whether Greythorne will persist, too. So even if you don't think you have anything to contribute - search deep. Everyone can." He looked to Rosie for some sense of affirmation or something, and then just dipped to a seat someplace in the middle by himself.

As more and more people came in, Travis started taking note of was and wasn’t there, as well as what type of attitude their body language gave off. Most people were slow and hesitant, alot of darty eyes, and a couple long stares at him. He saw two of the witches, Alex and Phoenix, Alex looking paranoid and scared of being here, and Phoenix wearing a flower crown, and seeming more of a caregiver in his movements and how he spoke. . Trav hadn’t seen much of Alex since the attack, hearing he was injured but miraculously survived, he was curious about what happened but hadn’t figured it out yet and knew now wasn’t a good time to ask questions.

Travis ignored most of the others coming in, taking small notes in his head and just acknowledging their presence whenever they would look at him, it wasn’t until a specific demon walked in that caught his eye. Camila. He watched out of the corner of his eye as she walked over and teased Alex, mostly ignoring Phoenix. He knew about her behavior and how she interacted with some of the other beings in Greythorne, but she still intrigued her. Most demons he faced served someone or something, but she more so served herself and her own wild fantasies. He didn’t turn to face her as she walked up to him but knew she knew he knew she was coming.

Camila commented on him smelling differently than before, a little like hell. “Well you know better than everyone we all have our sins. And I might be able to smell the difference in people, but it’s safe to bet most people smell different after the attacks. Fear, paranoia. I might not be able to smell it, but its there.” Travis was a little surprised when she kissed him and walked away, though it wasn’t the first time she had done so, especially in a teasing manner, but still left him wanting more. As she walked away he turned his focus back on the crowd and finally up onto Rosie as she began to speak.

Travis listened carefully, keeping mostly a serious face shown while others relaxed and gave lighthearted laughs to her jokes. Next was Chief Kaner, a Druid, and Trav rolled his eyes at his generic talk about vigilance, looking out for each other, and not being afraid to speak up. Basic stuff that he had heard numerous times throughout his military career. Though what caught Travis’ attention was when the vampire Elijah stood up and gave a speech to the crowd. Trav actually perked up and listened to what the man had to say, curious and fascinated by how he went on and his words, but for a vampire that is a few hundred years old, Travis knew he had some practice. As Elijah finished, he took his seat and the room was quiet.

Travis straightened up his jacket and pushed himself off the wall before starting to walk down the middle. “Well, while Chief’s and Elijah’s speeches were great, thank you you two. I gotta point out something Elijah had said. ‘put aside petty differences and settle the feuds in our community’ to quote him directly.” Travis said as he turned around as he got to the stage and leaned against it. “Look around. We’re suppose to be a community, but the few humans like myself that live in Greythorne, most aren’t here. And it’s because they are scared and afraid, even some of have left Greythorne because some of their close friends wouldn’t talk to them anymore. I’ve heard talk at the bar about how ‘we should kick all the humans out of Greythorne' just because the people who attacked us were humans.” He paused for a second, taking off part of his jacket to reveal his left arm and a healing bullet wound. “But they attacked all of us, not just the ones that aren’t the same as them.” Travis pulled his jacket over. Though the bullet wound was from that night of the attack, it was self-inflicted so he could have a cover story. He wore a sling for a little bit and had to refuse Kaylessa’s many offers to just heal him.

“I got nothing else to say besides that. And I, as well as the few other human’s left in Greythorne, would appreciate it if they were stalked each night by Nymphs and Shapeshifters.” Travis said as he started walking back to his seat. He could feel the eyes staring him down, but as well as some of the guilty looks from supernatural’s that felt bad. He wasn't sure why he even spoke up as it would put more eyes on him, but he felt like he needed to say something, he had seen first hand some of the humans being treated like they were the ones who shot attacked their neighbors, and heard some nasty things at Camila's pub.

If Alex hadn’t heard her coming, he may have jumped when Camila touched him, but her the sound of her heels was impossible to miss, and he would know her voice anywhere. When she spoke directly to him, greeting him, he smiled, "Gracias,” His voice was low, almost a purr of appreciation, and he continued to speak as she tilted his head (he never minded her taking charge), "Te ves hermosa hoy." He hadn’t seen her yet and wasn’t rushing to get a look, either. He didn’t even turn to look as she walked away, though he did cast a sideways glance at Phoenix, almost as if to check if he was still there.

The beginning of the meeting was boring enough, just like every speech or update Chief Kaner had ever given. Alex tried to listen closely, but found his mind wandering, mostly with the realisation that enough wasn’t being done, and the idea that half the residents of this town may never be prepared for another attack, himself included. Almost all at once, it seemed, the chief finished his update, and Elijah took the podium.

Alex didn’t have anything personal against Elijah, but found the vampire’s distaste of Phoenix unsavory. Still, his words pricked at Alex’s ears, and he was right. Alex knew it all too well. The hunters would be back, and if they caught the town off guard again, more would die. Maybe all of them. They knew what they were up against now, no doubt the hunters would come more prepared next time. The speech was meant to be inspiring, and it probably was, but Alex didn’t hear much of it past the ringing in his ears. He took in a few snippets, though. He needed to get it together, and fast.

Suddenly Alex felt like his head was swimming, and he felt like he was going to cry- or die. He didn’t know for sure. Coming to this meeting had been a mistake. He thought getting out might be good for him, he wanted to know what was happening, how he could help, but he obviously wasn’t ready for this. He needed some space, some air. A moment to think. Maybe he should go home.

He stood up, fairly abruptly, scooting his chair back behind him. The sudden movement and noise was slightly startling to the people around him; though most of them thought nothing of it when they saw who it was suddenly jumping up out of his chair. Alex had a long history of being impulsive and jumpy, and given his recent experiences, no one in town could really blame him for being more on edge than usual. Everyone knew what had happened, after all; news travels fast in a small town, and everyone was a little worried of what Alex would do if he never mentally recovered from the attack. Or, now, what he may not be able to do.

Without apologising or saying a word to Phoenix, he turned and all but ran out the doors, desperately hoping that no one would follow him. He just needed a minute, needed to clear his head, then he could go back inside. Or maybe he needed to go home. He had a cigarette lit (no small task, thanks to his hands that wouldn’t stop shaking) almost the moment he walked through the doors; he’d never smoked consistently, it was always a crutch in times of stress, and he’d quit ‘for good’ nearly two years ago. Lately he had found old habits creeping back in, settling in as if they’d never left. As if he hadn’t spent the last two years of his life playing catch-up, trying to grow up and become an adult.

Out in the cold air, he swore he could hear voices carried on the wind, calling out his name. As if to beckon him forward into the darkness, to his end. Calling him home. He knew that the spirits wanted him back, they’d nearly had him once before, and if he didn’t get a grip soon they might just catch up to him, after all. He didn’t slow down for a moment, having decided to just go home. He come to the meeting, he’d tried. He couldn’t do it. He needed to calm down, then he could figure out how he could help. He could do something.

Phoenix knew this meeting was important, but he found himself struggling to concentrate on anything anyone was saying. Even as Elijah stood up to give a grandiose speech, possibly meant to inspire them all to stand up and fight, he instead found himself watching Alex out of the corner of his eye. Coming here might have been a mistake. Maybe they should have just stayed in Abuela’s, or gone back to Phoenix’s instead and drank tea and talked shit for a while. This had been a bad idea, and the guilt of getting Alex to come was beginning to settle in to his stomach.

And then, suddenly, Alex shoved himself to his feet and practically ran out of the hall without a word. A few people around them turned to look, and Phoenix instinctively shot them an apologetic half-smile as he got to his feet and silently pushed their chairs back into place. A distraction arrived in the form of Travis standing up to make a speech, just in time for Phoenix to follow Alex out, his heart in his chest. Things had been worse than he’d imagined. This had been a mistake. They shouldn’t have come.

“Alex,” he called, but Alex didn’t turn or otherwise respond. Phoenix strode after him, catching up easily, just like he always did, just like he always had, even when they were kids. “Alex,” he called again as he got closer, but Alex was lost in his thoughts. So Phoenix reached out and grabbed his arm, pulling him to a stop as he reached him. “Alex. It’s okay, you’re okay, you’re safe. Come on. Talk to me. What’s wrong?” He asked, stepping as close as he dared and lowering his voice to speak softly, keeping his hand on Alex’s arm.

Alex felt his chest tighten, and panic flared back up in his mind. It was just Phoenix, and rationally he understood that, but he was already on edge, and Phoenix grabbing his arm like that, it just set him off. He froze, only for a moment, as if his brain just couldn’t fully process what was happening. He felt frustration rise in his chest; he was frustrated that he couldn’t handle the meeting, that Phoenix had followed him out, but mostly he felt himself growing increasingly frustrated by his own panic and fear. He felt like his life was falling apart, and that he was just getting in the way everywhere he went. He felt the panic and frustration meld into a frantic sort of anger, not unlike a wounded, cornered animal. He flinched away from Phoenix, ripping his arm away from his friend’s touch, and turned to face him, “Don’t touch me.” He spat, voice dripping with venom. He hadn’t meant to snap at Phoenix, but he didn’t stop there. “You wanna know what’s wrong?” He lowered his voice, but nothing in his tone was soft. He’d never spoken particularly harshly to Phoenix, not even when they’d disagreed. There had always been some sort of affection, or humor, to cut the sting of his words. He didn’t try to keep the anger out of his voice this time.

“I have been there for you through everything. Every pain, every heartbreak, every stupid decision. Even when I was hurting, or lost, or… Whatever. I have always dropped everything to be there for you.” He held up a finger, as if daring Phoenix not to say a word, “I… I practically died, Phoenix! I was alone, and you left me there. All for what? Some asshole who left you heartbroken the next day!” He shook his head, he knew he should stop, but his heart was pounding in his chest, his ears were ringing, and he felt completely out of control, “And you’d known him, what? Two weeks?” He scoffed, “And now look at you. Now you’re… You’re blond now? Trying to look like him?” Alex rolled his eyes, his tone would’ve been condescending if he didn’t sound so furious, “What a pathetic attempt to hold onto someone that didn’t even care about you enough to say a proper goodbye.”

Alex shrugged and took a step backwards, as if he suddenly couldn’t stand to be so close to Phoenix, “I really hope it was all worth it. I certainly learned a very valuable lesson about what kind of person I should be putting my trust in.”

Phoenix stumbled back the moment Alex pulled his arm away, realising that he’d made a mistake. And then Alex started speaking, and Phoenix just stared at him in confusion. He’d never heard Alex speak to… anyone like that. It felt like he was listening to somebody else in Alex’s body.

Phoenix wanted to comfort Alex. He wanted to ignore everything he was saying and drag him home, make him hot chocolate, and tell him to sleep it off and he’d feel better in the morning. He wanted this to be something they could move past. But every word felt like a kick to the chest. And what hurt the most? It was true. It would have been easier to dismiss it if it had been empty, if it had been just delusions. But it explained so much. It explained the distance that Phoenix had started to feel ever since the attack. It drove home the guilt that Phoenix had felt for weeks now as well as the heartbreak of being abandoned again. That look of disgust as Alex stepped away from him felt like somebody had driven a knife between his ribs and there was a moment where he felt like he couldn’t breathe.

“You ungrateful asshole,” Phoenix choked out, not realising he was crying until the tears were streaming down his cheeks. “Are you forgetting all the times I fucking talked you down after a nightmare? I let you pass out on my couch because you got too drunk? Pulled you away when somebody was about to kick your face in because you flirted with somebody you shouldn’t have?” He was yelling now, and he wasn’t going to be able to control it. It was a defense mechanism, kicking in so nobody would see the pain and the hurt. “I make one mistake, one mistake I have regretted ever since, and I’m the monster?” He could feel a familiar tug somewhere in the back of his mind, the tug that meant he was losing control of his abilities. He couldn’t let that happen, not here. He needed to get out of here, needed to go. He ripped the flower crown from his head and hurled it at Alex. “Go fuck yourself, Alex.” He turned and stormed away, the tears still streaming down his face.

Phoenix’s words didn’t hurt. They were true, and Alex hadn’t forgotten any of it, he just didn’t care. The things Phoenix had done right in the past just couldn’t erase the pain and betrayal he felt. He let the flower crown hit him, not caring enough to move or even try to stop it, and when Phoenix turned to leave found himself calling out, “We’re all monsters, Phoenix! But you’re a fucking coward!” The words left his mouth before he’d even stopped to consider what he was saying, just like everything else he’d said that night. He found himself beginning to tremble; so he turned, and started walking home. This was the last place he wanted to be. If Phoenix was a coward, Alex didn’t know what that made him.

Jaiden and Markus had slowly made their way to the town hall, seeing the building slowly getting bigger the closer they got to it. Jaiden could feel a small pit forming in her stomach as thoughts raced through her mind. Lost in her own little world that she found herself getting lost in as of late. Everything just felt, wrong? Being out of the house didn't sit well with her, and she knew that Markus wasn't going to let her go back home and become a recluse once more. Even though she wished she could. But a small part of her told her that she needed to be out and at the town hall. A small voice, almost reminiscent to the voice that she heard before the attack happened. A small feeling of something not being completely okay, and she ignored it the firt time. She wasn't going to ignore it again, not this time. She wanted to tell Markus, tell him that she had a feeling that something wasn't right, that something just wasn't right. But she was scared he wouldn't believe her, and say that she was just overreacting and paranoid. So she kept that feeling to herself as the two approached the building. The two stopped for a moment and silently looked at each other. Giving Markus a small feign smile as she looked up at him.

Jaiden almost felt her heart drop when some unknown figure pressed their arm against her back, ushering her forward. Her initial reaction was to turn around and possibly attack, not like it would do much considering her current state. But she stopped as a somewhat familiar voice came from behind them. It was a deep, raspy and guttural tone. Obvious for anyone to recognize a Slovic accent when they hear it. She was going to speak until he pushed both her and Markus along as he spoke. If it was any darker outside except for the few lighting fixtures around the town in street lights and storefront lights still on, she would have sworn she would have known Markus' expression without the need for light. Jaiden was gently ushered into the building by Elijah, shortly after entering the building she grabbed Markus' hand and pulled him to the side. "Thank you, Elijah." she said quickly as she decided to sit in the back. Bring less attention to yourself and stay out of eyesight for the most part. She was only really there because Markus dragged her along anyway. The two sat in complete silence as they wanted for the meeting to start, seeing all familiar faces fill the room caused a small smile to appear on her face, but only for a short moment. Phoenix and Alex were sitting on the opposite side of the room, but from the angle she sat she could see them, Zada was in another part of the room more towards the front, as well as Kaylessa, and then Violet...She didn't see her for a moment until she gave a complete scan over the room. Violet was standing against the wall, arms crossed and attention fully given towards the stage. Sure, those two weren't ever truly close, but since the attack and since Violet chose to practically be her baby sitter, she had no real choice but to become closer with her over the past few weeks. Before Violet was so energetic and happy and no pun intended but was rather full of life. But after the attack, whatever she did to save Alex, left her as she was now. And she wasn't sure what it was, possibly the slightly paler skin, the dark rings around her eyes and the almost soulless expression in her eyes...Jaiden wasn't sure. Whatever happened, it wasn't the same Violet that she knew before and that bit worried her.

Her attention was taken back to reality when the meeting started. Jaiden sat there in silence as Rosie spoke, as well as Kaner spoke. After they both gave their piece, she applauded with the others. Her thoughts swirled in her mind for a moment but was brought back to reality when the same voice from earlier boomed throughout the room. Elijah was giving his speech, something she wasn't entirely expecting. She listened with a clenched jaw and sweaty palms as her heart raced in her chest. She could feel herself growing more anxious as he continued to speak. It didn't sit well with her, and while he had several points, some just felt wrong. It would only raise paranoia and anxiety throughout the town if everyone started carrying around weapons. But maybe it wasn't such a bad idea for those that couldn't defend themselves naturally.

Jaiden found herself rolling her eyes a bit when Travis began to speak, giving his peace on this. For someone she hadn't already liked very much, she had to admit he had a point. People were drifting farther apart than coming together as a community like they should have, and it was only causing further rifts between them all. She eyed him silently as he showed off his wound on his arm, as if that made a difference. They all were attacked, that much was clear as day. But the fact that it was a group of Hunters mixed with a few rogue ones didn't sit well with anyone, especially Jaiden. Jaiden bit her lip as she went back into her own little world, only way she knew how to cope. That was until a loud sound echoed throughout the room and Alex went running, with Phoenix shortly behind him. She rolled her eyes as she sighed, looking up at Markus as her eyes darted between the door and him, "When we can, can we please go? I...I don't want to stay longer than we have to." she asked, her voice was obviously shaken and it was evident she didn't like being there anymore. All that was keeping her in remote calm was the fact she was still holding Coco, gently petting behind the dog's ears and chin.

Their walk to the meeting hall had been entirely silent. Markus had wanted to say something, anything to Jaiden to make sure she knew she wasn't entirely alone in this. But he knew anything he said would only make things worse, as he wasn't entirely the best with words and that hurt him more than not doing anything because he didn't care. If he said the attack didn't change how he viewed things, especially how he cared for people, he'd be lying. Attacks never made him feel like this before. Maybe because Greythorne had become his home and the people in it became his family, he wasn't sure. But one thing was a constant, he'd do whatever he could to make sure the people in it were safe. He stopped cold in his tracks when some unknown figure touched his back, pushing him forwards. He grabbed on to the arm for a moment, until he picked up that familiar scent and eased up a bit. He was so in his thoughts he hadn't picked up Elijah's scent until he was brought back to reality. And thankfully it was only Elijah. He found himself releasing Elijah's arm as he moved away from the vampire's hand and walked on his own accord, "We were just making our way in. But thank you." he said somewhat gruffly as the doors opened, and he was pulled to the side as Jaiden took his arm. He gave Elijah one last side-eye look and then gave his full attention to Jaiden, who simply pulled him into one of the back rows. He knew he should have been closer to the front since he was there mainly for Rosie, but he decided to accommodate Jaiden's wishes up remaining in the back.

The meeting began as uneventful as he would have pictured. But aside from the slight intrusion of both Elijah's and Travis' speeches, which had only been slightly ruined by Alex and Phoenix running out of the room midway, were rather plain. Things were said how he expected, that there would be more open spots for patrols as it had become public knowledge by now. But who was in the patrols wasn't, mainly for safety. He silently eyed Travis as he gave his speech if one could call it that. He was human, and while yes he had been attacked too, something still didn't sit right with Markus about him. Something just felt...Off? Once he was sure everyone was done with what they had to say, he took a step forward. Deciding to speak which he normally wouldn't have done but what would be the harm in it now? He just carefully thought things through before he spoke. He didn't want to raise any more unnecessary anxiety and panic among the others, "Hello. Some of you know me, many don't. My name's Markus, and I'm a part of the patrols going around the town. Uh, me and the delightful Neden have been working together for the past few weeks, and thought we'd like to update you all?" he said with a small smile as he gestured to the angel who was standing propped against the wall.

"Thankfully nothing has been out of the ordinary. We've been keeping tabs on most of the locals, especially at night. As Travis said, while they haven't been stalking...We have had some of our very own nymphs and dryads keeping watch. It's easier and safer that way. If anyone has any other questions or concerns, feel free to ask either of us or any of us who are in the patrols. We'd also like to have you join us if you so wish. Thank you." he said with a small nod of his head, giving Rosie a certain look she'd understand all too well. It essentially was his way of asking for help, and to help bring the attention off of him.

xxxSorry to my unknown lover
xxxSorry I could be so blind
xxxDidn't mean to leave you
xxxAnd all of the things that we had behind

The walk to the town hall was eerily quiet, not completely silent neither. The drolling, numbing whispers and voices were a constant since she came back. It was almost as if a thousand disembodied voices all spoke out at once in a hushed voice. Nothing was discernible or coherent, always just out of the realm of being able to fully grasp even a single word. It didn't matter where she went or what she did, even if she listened to music she could always hear those damned voices that never seemed to leave her side. She took note of the cold night air that softly wisped past her face, which caused a small shudder. Quickening her pace to the townhall and finally saw the building come into view. She smiled as she saw everyone begin to gather and enter the building. A large smile spread across her face when she saw Kaylessa handing out her small trinkets and usual wares that she made in her free time and gave out to others. As Violet reached out for one of the normal ones made or orchids, she was stopped by Kaylessa who said she made one specifically for her. "You did not!" she teased, a small chuckle creased her lips as she watched the half-elf dig through her cart of trinkets. Violet's eyes widened as she saw that Kaylessa had indeed made her something, "Thank you so much, Kay. I really do appreciate it. I'll catch up with you later, alright?" she said with a small smile as she took the flower crown and placed it on her head. Violet gave Kay one more smile and small wink before she turned and entered the building, placing the box of food she brought on the back table, she'd be sure to make it up to Markus and everyone else for being late.

Violet decided to remain towards the back and by herself as she leaned against the wall. Having since coming back preferred to be by herself, especially with the weird looks she had gotten since she came back to Greythorne. She didn't know what it was about her now that made others give her such odd looks and snide comments, but others had taken it up upon themselves lately to treat her differently than before. She knew she wasn't a normal ghost anymore, but that shouldn't have changed anything, but it did, and for whatever reason, it didn't sit well with her. Violet simply found herself sighing and crossing her arms as the meeting finally started, but found her mind quickly going to other places and thoughts as the other talked, essentially drowning them out with her own pointless thoughts. She couldn't even remember the last part she caught of what anyone said, or even what she was thinking when she heard a loud clatter in front of her and to the side. Violet found herself craning her neck to the side as a handful of the others did as well at the direction that the interruption came from. Dumbass. Probably fell asleep again and almost fell out of his chair, she thought to herself. But after looking at Alex for a few short moments, the panic and fear, the uncertainty in his eyes and expression. Something wasn't right, that much was obvious. And it had nothing to do with the fact that it was Alex, nothing was ever right with him. But there was something in that moment, a primal fear that she hadn't seen since...The two of them were, wherever they were before. Whatever that otherworldly place was. That exact look was on his face that night, and here it was again.

She watched silently as he ran out of the room, shortly chased after Phoenix who called after him. She simply rolled her eyes, and tried to focus on what the others were saying now, especially now that Markus began to speak. Something she never would have guessed. But there was something there, in the back of her head. A small itch. Almost like something was telling her to leave. Leave and go outside. Now. Violet sighed and begrudgingly moved from her place against the wall and ditched out from the backdoor, slowly following where the boys had ran off to. Or at least where she assumed they ran off to. And sure enough, yelling could be heard from outside. She couldn't tell what was said until she opened the door and stepped out, and what she heard...She never expected. Especially from those two.

"We’re all monsters, Phoenix! But you’re a fucking coward!"

That was the only part of the argument she properly heard by the time she had gotten outside. And that was all she needed. Violet immediately looked on as Alex stormed off and started to disappear into the dark of night. She turned her head to Phoenix who stood on the steps, gently placing a hand on his shoulder as she spoke, "Go back inside and cool your head. I'll take care of talking to Alex. And I don't want any more arguments." her voice was somewhat cold, but not entirely heartless. There was an odd sense of warmth to her words, as her eyes displayed a feeling of sorrow and remorse as she made the briefest of eye contact with Phoenix. She turned and with quick steps began to follow after Alex, the sound of her footsteps gently echoing after him as her silhouette disappeared into the darkness of night.

After a few minutes of trying to catch up to him, she finally saw his form come into view. Violet remained silent for a few moments as her shoes patted softly across the pavement under her feet. After a few short moments of thought, she decided to finally call out to him, "Alex!" she called out. After quickening her pace a bit she called out once more, "Alex! You asshole." she said loud enough for him to hear her as she gently grabbed onto his forearm, and pulled him back in an attempt to stop him from walking, but quickly released him arm as she knew it would more than likely trigger a sight or flight response in him. "Look, I know I'm the last person you want to talk to right now, but you are going to shut the fuck up and listen to me for once in your god damn life, do you understand?" she said with a rather rhetorical tone. Taking one more moment of calming herself down she spoke but with a cooler and calmer tone this time around, "Look, you both fucked up, alright? But we are all scared, Alex. All of us. It's not just you in this, okay? They attacked all of us. And I somehow...managed to save your dumbass. But look where that got us, Alex. Yelling at our friends because we're scared?" she questioned, clear pain and a tinge of anger were clear in her tone if it wasn't displayed in her eyes.

Alex ignored her until she grabbed his arm, which was more than a little annoying, but didn’t have time to voice his disapproval before Violet started talking. He wasn’t interested in hearing her out, and it was obvious on his face. Still, he stood and listened, though he did contemplate turning and walking away mid-monologue. When she finally finished, he sighed, ”You’re right. I don’t want to talk to you.” He shrugged, gave Violet half a wave, and turned on his heel to leave. He didn’t have the energy for this.

Violet simply stared at him, somewhat dumbfounded as he spoke. She knew he didn’t care what she had to say, he never did. But the least he could do was at least pretended he cared. Violet found herself grabbing his arm again, this time harder as she forced him to turn around fully. “You are such an asshole, you know that?” she questioned. “Even when people are trying to fucking help you, you never let anyone in. Ever. For as long as I’ve known you, you’ve always been a bit of an ass. But what you pulled back there was even low for you, Alex.” Violet stated rather coldly. She gave him a look over one more time before speaking, “I don’t know how to help someone if they don’t even try to let me help them.” her voice was somewhat pained and trailed off a bit as she took a step back from him as she looked around. “That night of the attack, when we were...Wherever the fuck we were, that was the first real conversation we ever had. As well as the first time I ever felt like you never hated me.” she said as she looked back up at him, her eyes displaying more emotion than she would have liked.

Alex’s face flashed with emotion---maybe pain, maybe regret---but he blinked it away quickly enough, set his jaw, and tried to look as disinterested as he could. When Violet brought up their conversation, though, he sighed, ”People say a lot of things when they’ve died. It was really disorienting.” He shrugged, almost nonchalantly, as if Violet had asked him what he thought of the weather, ”And did you ever consider that I don’t want your help. I never asked for it. If I’m such an asshole, and such a bother, you should have just let me die.” He didn’t want to admit that he meant it, but he did. ”Probably would have been better off, anyway, huh?”

Violet simply scoffed as he tried to look as disinterested as he could. She would have bought it if she didn’t know him as well as she did. “You are pathetic.” she muttered softly under her breath. She found herself snapping her head up to look at him once more after shaking her head, “I know you didn’t. And I never expected you to. But for christ’s sake, Alex!” she exclaimed, turning on her heel for a moment. She needed to compose herself, otherwise, things could end up being far worse than how it went down between him and Phoenix. She chuckled once more, “Trust me, I thought about it. I really did. But letting someone die when I had the chance to help them, isn’t something I wasn’t going to give up on.” her voice was somewhat sympathetic and even sad in a way. As much as she hated to admit it, and while she’d never say it out loud, she did care for Alex, for whatever reason. Her brow twitched at the comment of it maybe having been better to just let him die in the end, and how it would have been easier. A loud smack filled the otherwise empty and silent night air as Violet found herself slapping him for the second time in just a few weeks. “It’s not that fucking simple, Alex! If you have the chance to live, then just fucking take it and accept it. Not everyone is that damn lucky to have a second chance.” she found herself feeling that all too familiar burning sensation behind her eyes before she turned her face to the side to wipe away a few tears, “I’m sorry...I didn’t...I didn’t mean to hit you like that. I’m sorry, Alex..” she said between taking a few deep breaths.

He face stung, and his heart dropped all at once. Being hit didn’t hurt as much as the apology, and suddenly he found himself not knowing what to say. ”No, it’s…” He sighed, ”I deserved that one.” He paused for a long moment, torn between wanting to comfort Violet and wanting to run away before he finally said, ”I feel so… Guilty. There were other people that deserved it more. Much more. I’m just an asshole and some sort of failed oracle.” He shook his head, ”It felt like going home, almost. Being there. I know you don’t understand it, but it just felt like stepping into one of my dreams.” He wasn’t sure why he was telling her all of this, but he didn’t stop. ”It was almost upsetting to lose it. I know I couldn’t stay there, but…” He didn’t finish his thought, opting instead to look up at the sky, ”A lot of people are going to die, soon. I feel it. I know I’m normally wrong, but we know they’ll be back. I’m afraid I won’t be able to stop it.” He felt his heart beating violently in his chest, tears welling in the corners of his eyes, ”I knew something terrible was going to happen before and I didn’t do anything.”

Violet had expected Alex to react one way, but how he handled it this time wasn’t what she expected. She just looked at him as he slowly turned into the old Alex, the one she saw with Phoenix and Jaiden and the others. The one while yes an asshole, but he still cared. And she couldn’t help but feel sorry for him. The fact that it came to him being yelled at to finally cool his head and thoughts, and just speak his mind. She knew he was stubborn and so was she, but this was something else. All she was able to do was stand there in silence as he spoke. Explaining how he just felt guilty, and that it was his fault. That he had the feelings of something bad, and didn’t do anything. She sighed as he continued, how others deserved to have lived while he shouldn’t have been saved. Survivor’s guilt, that’s all that it was. Violet found herself gently placing her hand on his shoulder for a moment before she finally looked up at him to see tears filling his eyes. “I’m sorry, Alex...If I could have done things differently, I would have. I think we all would have. But...It’s no one to blame. Especially not you.” she tried giving him a smile, but even Alex would know that it was false.

Violet sighed as she looked up at the night sky. Closing her eyes for a moment as she touched the mark along her wrist for just a brief moment before opening her eyes once more, “People are going to die...But I’ll do whatever I can to help. You just have to let us know from now on...okay? Even if it’s just me. I’ll be there.” she said with a small smile, this time it was a genuine smile, however small it may have been. Even the smallest bit of reassurance would have helped, or at least she hoped.

Alex nodded, and suddenly he looked like his mind was worlds away; thoughts spiriting him off to somewhere no one could follow. But he said a simple, ”Yeah, I know.” Then, as if to demonstrate that he’d been listening, he added, ”I’ll let you know.”

The meeting had essentially become an absolute mess, just as anyone would have guessed. People gave their speeches, while gave small opinions or retorts. As well as a few townsfolk getting up and leaving. Neden rolled their eyes as they remained silent, watching as the man named Travis came back to his place by the wall that was close enough to them. They took note of him eyeing their pocket earlier, and no emotion were portrayed on their face. Which, was an odd thing. Their whole disposition since first coming to the town hall had been, odd for those that knew them. They were normally an obnoxiously loud and mouthy presence, and this time they just stood in silence, observing. After the public disruption that was Phoenix and Alex running out of the room, which was soon followed by Violet, another figure soon stepped in through the back doors. The metal latch of the door clattered behind them. if one focused on them long enough, they'd see that the figure soon separated into three separate beings. The one on the left was a tall, lanky/twiggy being who's form appeared to be a dark brown color with a rough exterior, with dark green patches covering their body. Long, gnarled and twisted fingers extended far beyond the normal human's length. And instead of skin, it appeared to be tree bark, which was split and cracked in certain areas, atop the head of the creature were sprigs of flowers and moss that trailed off in the form of hair, that sat nicely above two golden orbs that made up their eyes. The other on the right matched this being in species, but unlike the other, it was a lighter color with dark orange patches of moss and foliage, as well as having blue eyes, unlike the golden eyes the other had. For anyone that knew Greythorne and its surroundings creatures, they would know what these beings were, at least two of them. Spriggans. Simple shapeshifters that were often seen as pranksters and pests. Or at least, that's what two of them were. As the one in the middle was, human. Or, at least appeared human.

Platinum blonde hair tied neatly in a ponytail, pale skin with dark green eyes, while cloaked in black. The being walked slowly down the middle walkway of the meeting room as they outstretched their arms. Stopping midway to look around, "Sorry that I am oh so terribly late, everyone. I had some last-minute things to catch up on." the figure said with a large toothy grin as they turned to everyone. Giving Rosie a small smile and wink as they turned to her as she stood on the stage. "As for you-" they began, pointing to the figure that stood against the wall. -What did I tell you about looking like me, Percy? It's not funny." the figure said to the being in the corner, who after a few moments shifted back from their previous form, to looking like one of the others that were with the being who was speaking now. The lumbering tree-giant humanoid figuring slowly made its way over to the figure in black, gently patting them on the head. "But this is also why you're my favorite." the other two Spriggans grumbled annoyingly at the comment. The figure ushered them off with their hand, seeing the tree spirits slowly move away from the middle of the room and off to the side, making sure to keep their eyes scanning over the room.

"Again, I apologize for being late. But from what I gathered, anyone is welcome to join the patrols. All you have to do is answer some quick questions and just fill out some things and we'll go on from there. Everything appears to be in perfect order. Which I am happy to report." they said with a small smile, turning to look at the Siren up on the stage. "So you have no need to worry a single hair on your pretty little head, Miss Thompson. This town is well looked after, trust me." they said with a small smile and wink. Turning to the others in the room after scanning the room one more time over they gave a small bow and took a seat that was close enough to them and sat down.

xxxsome things have changed
xxxwe don't fit like we used to
xxxit's hard to ignore if it's worth the wait
xxxit might just fool you
Phoenix didn't know what he wanted to do. He didn't know where he wanted to go. No, it was that he knew exactly where he wanted to go. He wanted to go to the same place he always went when he was hurting this much, where he knew it wouldn't hurt quite as bad. He wanted to go to Alex's. But that option was gone.

Oh, the irony.

It was only when Violet gently put a hand on his shoulder that he realised he hadn't gone anywhere at all. He jumped a little. Her being able to touch him was... weird. Wrong, almost. She'd changed too, since that night. Well, they'd all changed. But Violet more so than most. Why? What had happened? Why did nothing make sense any more? What had that attack done to the town?

Her words were firm, but not harsh or uncaring. He wanted to explain. He couldn't just go back inside. He couldn't just pretend everything was fine because it wasn't. The flowers that had begun to grow through the concrete, unaffected by the bitter cold, their bright colours almost an insult, was a testament to that. Everything wasn't fine. He wasn't fine.

"You're a fucking coward." The words echoed in his head, made the lump in his throat feel like it was smothering him. All he wanted to do was run and hide. That was all he had ever wanted to do and it hadn't served him well so far. So why was he still so afraid?

But somehow, somehow, he found it in himself to turn and go back inside, stopping only to wipe the last of the tears from his cheeks. He stood at the back of the hall as Neden made their grand entrance, flanked by two Spriggans. Their dramatic flair would have usually made him smile, but not tonight. Tonight, he could barely muster a half smirk. Part of him wanted to prove Alex wrong. Prove he wasn't a coward and sign up to protect the town. But no, he couldn't do that either. Instead, he stared at his feet, trying and failing to calm down even just a little bit.

The silence that hung in the air as she asked if anyone would like to speak lasted just a second too long, and Rosie knew it. But then Elijah made his grand entrance and made his way to the stage. She let him move her, ever so gently, forever the gentleman, but his glancing smile was met with an eyebrow raised just a little. It was gentle and gentlemanly and entirely innocent, and they both knew that, but also she would have stepped aside without having to be moved.

His speech was intended to rouse and bring hope, and while it may have been best delivered to a group of soldiers instead of a group of terrified but angry townspeople, it seemed to rouse a few and comfort a few others. She gave him a nod and a smile as he looked at her for confirmation. Before she could step back up to the podium, however, Travis got up.

His speech was... slightly less well received. Rosie could hear the angry mutterings from the crowd. Travis had a point, she had to admit. The town was showing signs of division, and while she was quelling it as fast as she could in her classes, she couldn't do much about the rest of the town. But the town was angry, and they were scared. They were afraid of humans, especially of newcomers who didn't have any link to anyone in the town. Fear did bad things to people, and people did bad things because of fear. Showing off his injury wouldn't gain him any sympathy. Everyone in this room had either been injured themselves or had lost somebody in the attack.

The angry mutterings continued, and Rosie was about to take back control of the crowd when Markus spoke up. Almost reflexively, she raised her eyebrows. He barely liked talking to people one on one, let alone in front of a crowd this big. It was brief, but did the job, and it seemed to quiet the crowd a little, or at least turn the murmurs a little more positive. He shot her a look that she understood all too well. He was done talking now and needed somebody to take over. Rosie stepped up to the podium- but before she could say anything, the doors swung open, and in walked Neden. There was a brief moment of confusion as people realised that there appeared to be two of them- and then one of them revealed themselves to be a spriggan. The real Neden, with their usual overdramatic flair, added on that anybody was welcome to join the patrols. Rosie just raised an eyebrow and smirked a little as they assured her that the town was perfectly safe. She doubted it, but at least Neden and Markus appeared to have the whole thing under control and were competent. She cleared her throat as Neden and their group of spriggans took their seats.

"Alright then. So, thank you all for your speeches and your contributions to the safety of the town. If nobody has anything else to contribute, I think we'll wrap it up there for tonight. I understand there's some refreshments down the back. Thank you," she said. The crowd began to chatter, a mix of emotions filling the room as she headed towards Markus.

"Hey. Thanks for that, I think we, uh, needed a change of tone after Trav's speech." She said, raising her eyebrows knowingly.

There is nothing less interesting than being in a town full of people you hardly know, or worse, that you don’t like. Zada had few friends in town, and while she was sure most of them would attend the meeting, she was fairly content to mind her own business while she waited. Even after years of living on dry land, she wasn’t very good at small talk; unless it involved seduction.

She wasn’t surprised when Camila settled in at her side, she’d heard the demon’s heels the whole walk to the front of the room, and she’d spared a quick glance to see who it was. She raised her brow as Camila spoke, eyes darting to the hands resting on her thigh. A smile smile tugged at the corners of her lips, a sort of mischief twinkled in her eye, but only for a moment. ”You’re free to join me any time I’m at the lake,” She spoke, voice as serious as ever, ”The meeting is important. I want to figure out how to help.” She reached over, brushing her fingers across Camila’s face to tuck a non-existent stray hair behind her ear. ”Any other day, though. I’ll be there.” This was both a promise, and a simple fact. Zada swam in the lake nearly daily, only really stopping when the lake froze over and she couldn’t access the water.

Then Rosie started to speak, and Zada found herself turning towards the podium. She looked aloof and disinterested (then again, she nearly always did), but she was listening intently. She hardly moved when Chief Kaner spoke, she had a high tolerance for boring speakers, and he wasn’t even the worst she’d seen.

When Elijah took the stand and began to speak, her expression did change slightly. To was a sad, knowing look. She hadn’t been alive anywhere near as long as some of the residents of the town, but Zada had still been on earth long enough, and had spent enough time with humans to know their nature. He was right. They would be back, they would be more prepared. They knew now that this was a town with a fighting spirit, and no-doubt they had the experience needed to extinguish their flames. Zada didn’t have any experience fighting back against humans, but she knew plenty of what cruelties they were capable of.

As Elijah took a seat, Travis came forward, and she had to fight to keep from staring daggers at the man. Truly, he had done nothing to deserve any measure of hatred from her. Still, the lessons she’d learned about human men were learned with blood, broken bones, and burned skin; they were difficult lessons, and they would not be easily unlearned. She felt no sympathy for him when he spoke, his kind had been known to kill witches and werewolves for less. Markus spoke next, which was somewhat surprising, but she found his words easier to digest. Perhaps only because she liked him more than Travis, or perhaps because his words gave her something to truly consider. Neden and, frankly, she didn’t much care for their theatrics and dramatism. Zada didn’t find it very helpful, and it was mostly distracting, but she had to admit it did give them a certain charm.

It wasn’t long after that when Rosie wrapped up the meeting, and Zada had someone she wanted to speak with. She leaned over to Camila and said a simple, ”If you’ll excuse me.” Before standing up and making her way back to Travis.

She normally didn’t have much to say to the human, but his little speech gave her something to think about. She stood in front of him and crossed her arms before saying, ”It would do you well to remember that most of us have a bloodline that includes centuries of persecution by humans,” While she spoke, her face was expressionless; it was a simple fact, and didn’t metic hysterical emotion or a big speech, ”Many of our ancestors were hunted down and killed for the simple crime of living. If you want to be trusted, you need to prove to us that you are trustworthy. Many of us were hurt in the attack. You are not special.”

Travis got back to his spot and took a sip of his whiskey as the meeting continued. The rest of the meeting went as well as he could have guessed, though he did pay attention to when Markus, the resident Werewolf that had been in Greythorne the longest started talking about patrols. He thought about putting his name forward for them, but assumed they would quickly shoot down his help, especially since he caught some of their patrols following him around. Highly unlikely the patrols would let him join without trying to keep tabs on him, so he disregarded that idea. He was a little surprised when Zada came up and talked to him, but not so much surprised when it wasn’t anything nice.

Trav let out a light chuckle, after Zada gave her sense about their kind and his kind being enemies. It was true, that was the real reason he was here, he almost appreicated her reminded him of that. Though what he liked the most was saying he wasn’t special for being attacked. He got ahold of himself before opening his mouth to Zada. “See, I respect that about you, not afraid to say what you think and believe.” He ran his hand through his hair. “And I’m sure you know my ancestors has been hunted down the same for their blood and the same yours have. And I get it, I’m not special. Just trying to say we all were attacked that night.” Travis leaned off the wall, sighing. “Zada, I apologize if what I said came off wrong, living here for just about a year and I’m still trying to get my footing.” He turned and looked out the open door that people were leaving through. “It’s a shame really, place is beautiful. I’m sorry if I’m seen as the enemy.”

Travis said as he then politely excused himself from Zada. He wanted to say more, more impulsive stuff that was building up inside him, but knew this wasn’t the time or the place. These monsters talk about being hunted for just living, and it’s because of what they do to his own kind, his parents.

Before leaving, Travis walked by Neden and heard them say something that made him stop. Anyone could join the patrols, but just had to answer some questions. While he knew he probably wouldn’t be accepted on patrol, and even if he did he would probably be babysat by someone, he was interested in these questions and what exactly was the criteria for being on a patrol. If only certain powers were allowed on patrol. Or if you had to have some sort of experience. Both good information to have. And if what he heard around town was true, they were wanting people willing to leave their homes and go out. He stopped and turned towards Neden and softly got their attention. “Hey, I doubt I’m your model citizen or who you even want on your patrols, but I have free time when I’m not working at the shop, and can easily re-arrange and change my store hours to account for being on patrol or helping your patrols.” Travis said, to her, throwing out his help and his bait to them, seeing if they would take it. “Anything to help out.”

Kaylessa sat forward and listened to what Rosie and Chief Kaner said with her undivided attention. She went to many of Chief Kaner’s meeting in the past, usually sneaking in or bringing goods to pass around to the small people part of the Greythorne’s police force. Most people lived in peace in Greythorne and if there were any incidents or problems between people, they would usually be solved before Kaner’s people stepped in. Kay was one of the first people to start clapping after Chief Kaner got done talking but quickly stopped as Elijah stood up and walked to the front of the hall to give his speech.

Kay was engrossed by Elijah’s speech and she hung onto every word he said. She was scared at first when he said they would be back and they would need to be ready, but he was right. He spoke about how everyone can do something, but Kay wasn’t sure what she could. Besides her healing power, which she almost exhausted herself to death with, there wasn’t much she could do. She wasn’t much of a fighter as she was never taught how to since not much happened in Greythorne, and if something did, her mother or Rosie would keep her out of trouble. When Elijah there was less of an applaud as people tried to take in what he had said.

Travis spoke as well, and Kaylessa could tell and feel that people didn’t exactly like him or what he was saying, or even both. She didn’t really understand why they felt that way. He was just saying what he thought was needed, which was the purpose of this meeting, as well as sharing that he was hurt as well. Kaylessa remember the day she walked into his store and saw him in a sling, and quickly tried to heal him, but he told her he wanted to let it heal on his own, it was how he had done with all his scars; its what made him human. She also didn’t understand why people didn’t seem to trust Travis, he had brought new business and items to their town, always offered to help around with people and even gave Kaylessa numerous gifts, there was no way she couldn’t not trust him.

Though the person who spoke that surprised Kay the most was Markus, who was usually known to be more secluded and quiet. What he spoke of didn’t really of importance to Kay since she already believed Markus, Neden, and the others on the patrols would keep them safe and prevent anymore attacks. She was actually on her way out when she just about bumped into Travis talking to Neden about if he could help even though he’s human and they might not want him. “Oh! I think Trav would be helpful, he told me stories about him being in their weird human fighters thing” Kay quickly said before Neden could get a word out, standing next to the human. “It’s called the Army, but atleast you’re getting closer with how you describe it Kay.” Travis quickly corrected her with a smile and light chuckle. “Yeah yeah, but if these people are humans, sorry Trav, then maybe he could help. Like they used stuff that hurt us more than hurt him, so maybe?” She continued. She wasn’t exactly trying to vote for Travis to be part of the patrols, but more so speaking her mind and what she thought might help. Travis was a much more of a help to the patrols than she could ever be.

Neither demon nor vampire would be that affected by the violence that would ensue later. The truth was pretty simple - Camila and Elijah were near pariahs in one way or another, justified or not, in this town. Elijah had always just had a quiet and peaceful existence here, whilst also falling into the realm of being subjected to certain untruths simply because of who he chose to be around. Rather, that he chose to be around no one at all. Camila, on the other hand, was just a woman people hated because of a man. Truthfully, it was a tad grating, given that she's never done anything to be genuinely loathsome. Without actual friends here in Greythorne, what did more death mean to them? Nothing. Camila would go back to Hell, and Elijah would move on. That's all it meant.

The lumbering man watched the fiasco that was Alex and whatshisface (he forgets sometimes), and Camila's eyes were on a certain mermaid's retreating bottom once Zada had stood up to say a piece. The gal was right - Humans would never understand their persecutions and the injustices. Hell, they do it to each other - which is the most fascinating and terrifying thing of it all. Humans had no boundaries when it came to who should die and who should live, and much of that to blame is on God and fearmongering.

Elijah (and Hell, Camila, too, but for a totally different and more lecherous reason), almost broke his neck as his gaze followed Zada to the Human. He waited until Travis departed after certain words were likely exchanged, and then stood up to begin removing himself from this area altogether. He didn't much like being in this place with the entire town, and it certainly wasn't safe to be huddled together.

His movement earns the attention of Camila, whose heels click-clacked for only a swift few seconds before her presence was right in front of him. She looped an arm through his own after stepping to his right side and suggested "I say we go to your house, pop open one of those unnecessarily expensive bottles of scotch, and just let the town do as it will."

She had noted that Alex ran out with Phoneix, and the smallest of pangs of guilt crept into her chest. Did she do that? The pair had bolted out of the door and some argument likely took place on the streets. Everyone was so vulnerable and touchy, but she didn't blame them. Not one bit. There is a lot to be nervous about, and death is one of them. Once the mortals latch onto something, their teeth and claws never relent. Tensions would rise as the level of fears did, and that's exactly what they hope will happen. It always happens. Both Camila and Elijah know that there is a pattern to things, and this is irreversible and hard to get away from.

"You are not going to go find Alex?" He looked down at her with a puzzled expression, leading her down the aisle and toward the exit.

She looked up at him, her brows knitted together as he had decided to shove himself into personal problems. If one could call it that. "Not right now. I'll just mess things up, and well - if I am going back to Hell soon, maybe it's for the best that I allow his... relationship with the boy to... go undisturbed." It took her a few seconds to choke those that two words out, but it was true. Time is fleeting and she didn't want to make Alex hate her, too.

"An act of selflessness?" He teased her, a sly grin having crept across his lips. He knew that would bother the hell out of her, but he dished out a light jab here and there. He moved through the door with Camila in tow to bring them down the empty streets in the direction of his home.

"I wouldn't call it selflessness," she shrugged at no one in particular. "We'll call it... concentrating on the bigger picture."

The pair would soon be at the steps of his large and lonely home; a desolate place where it was always as cliche as cliche could get when it comes to all the thoughts one might have of a Vampire's dwelling. It was a haunt, that's for certain. Camila and Elijah disappeared through its doors, and likely wouldn't be out unless something were to occur.

Markus had withdrawn into himself and his own mind as a way of escaping reality as he walked back to his chair. He didn't like talking in general, nevermind a large crowd of people. But the people needed some more assurance by one of their longtime residents, and if the knowledge of him being of the patrols helped, so be it. And seeing some of the residents breathe a little easier after his small and short speech made a small form on his face. The awkward silence soon after his bit ended didn't last long as the back doors opened and stepped in a few figures. Markus rolled his eyes as he should have known that damn idiot wouldn't just slink in through the back. It wasn't like them. If he knew Neden as well as he did, he knew they wouldn't come into a place quietly, not like that. He also should have noticed that Neden never stays to the back, unless something is truly wrong. He listened to their short speech and nodded in agreement. They were fully accepting of anyone that showed interest in joining, well, mostly anyone. Few exceptions.

His attention was snapped back when Rosie spoke up, concluding the meeting after a few more short words. He watched as she began to make her way over to him. Turning his head to the side to speak to Jaiden for a moment, "I'll be a short moment, I promise. Just gonna talk to Rosie for a moment." he gave the witch a small smile and pat on her head as he turned and met Rosie halfway. Giving them a bit of a distance from the others. "Well, I'm glad to know I was the wasn't only one feeling awkward during that then." he said with a small wink, taking a quick glance around the room. Turning his attention back to the Siren in front of him as he spoke, "What? You're saying mine was any better?" he said with a small scoff with a wave of his hand.

"I'm just glad to be able to help raise anyone's spirits. Even if that speech of mine was, shitty at best." Markus said with a small chuckle. He made some slight eye contact with the others as his eyes scanned the room, quickly going some than others who he gave some lingering looks before passing onto the next. "Anyway, before your favorite over dramatic person makes their way over here-" Markus started, seeing that Neden had begun to make their way towards their general direction, knowing full well they'd come and talk to the two of them very soon. "-what Neden said is true. Things are perfectly fine. We haven't seen anything....out of place in a few weeks. But, we're keeping an eye out, or two. Per your request, Rosie. I'll be sure to update you as soon as anything pops up." he said as he gave her a small nod and began turning on his heels to leave until he felt something grab the back of his jacket's collar and pull him back towards them. He knew who it was, and at this exact moment, he was not in the mood to deal with them..

The rest of the meeting was finished off by Rosie after she gave her last few words and closed the meeting there, figuring everyone had heard enough as well as the mood was clearly souring every second. Better to close it off there than to continue on. Silently Neden looked around for a few short moments, giving the three Spriggans a nod of their head, and they seemingly disappeared into thin air, which garnered a few strange looks from those that witnessed it. For those that didn't know Spriggans, they were able to make small bursts of teleportation, or that's what others considered it to be. While in reality, it was camouflaging themselves. Neden cleared their throat as they looked around the room, others were busy talking amongst themselves, as well as Rosie and Markus beginning to chat between them. Neden would make sure to bother them soon enough. To be fair it was rather important. What had been of most significance to Neden was how many didn't seem bothered by the latter speeches during the meeting, but perhaps it was for the best. What was worth taking note was that Travis had asked if he was able to join the patrols, even if he wasn't the most liked in the town. Neden was going to answer, but Kaylessa gave her two cents, and clearly wanted him to be apart of it and that he'd do great. Neden chuckled slightly and simply said that they'd think on it and let him know by the end of the week and that someone would reach out to him by then.

Now with that out of the way, Neden slowly stalked their way towards prey. A small smile plastered on their face as they stalked their way over, seeing the individual quickly turn on his heels to leave, to only meet Neden's hand on the collar and was pulled backward. "Well that's rude. Where you headed off too now?" they teased as they set Markus back down, letting go of his jacket. Slinging an arm around Markus' shoulder Neden turned and looked at Rosie as they spoke, "Also, Markus here told you about what we found over the week, right?" they questioned. The look on Markus' face said all that they needed to know. Softly biting their bottom lip as they spoke, "You didn't tell her yet, did you?" Neden said with a sigh as they backed up, rubbing the bridge of their nose as they took a moment to think. After giving themselves a moment they looked back up, index finger and thumb of their right hand still pinching the bridge of their nose, "Ya see, we ran into a bit of a...a hiccup last week? And uh...we uh...We have a guest." Neden said as they quickly gave Rosie a look that she would know by now. Slight raise of both eyebrows and quick dart of the eyes. It was enough of a sign for her to pick up on.

"Now look, we got it handled. There's just a reason we were going to wait to tell you, but I thought Markus had already told you by now. But I see he hasn't so...I'll let you grill his ass for that, while I go get ourselves some coffee? Cupcakes? Brownies? Anything?" the fallen angel said as they began to back away from the two in hopes of being able to get some refreshments as a distraction, but mainly as a way of Rosie giving Markus the full heat of the situation, and not them. At least not entirely.

Rosie just raised an eyebrow and shook her head a little as Markus asked if his speech was any less awkward. “It was fine, not shitty at all, Markus. You need to give yourself a little more credit,” she said, with a half grin. The update at least put her at ease. She couldn’t go on the patrols, what with having to mark papers and prepare for her classes, but Markus had at least been keeping her in the loop. In a time like this, she'd found herself taking some degree of leadership on this thing. Mostly, she used the information to advise her students to stay away, or to answer any questions they did have. She couldn't do much, but she could try to protect them. Markus turned to walk away, having updated her in his usual brief manner, but instead Neden reappeared in their usual energetic manner.

The grin on Rosie's face rapidly disappeared as Neden mentioned what they’d found during the week. “No. No, he didn’t.” She said, turning to stare down Markus. She just sighed as Neden explained that they’d had a hiccup. And that they now had a guest. She knew exactly what that meant, unfortunately. It meant things were now more complicated than they had been two minutes ago. Neden disappeared as quickly as they’d appeared under the pretense of getting food. Rosie turned fully to Markus.

“Were you going to bring this up?” She asked, folding her arms and raising an eyebrow. “Markus, if there’s one of them, there could be more. What are you going to do with our little… problem?” She asked, keeping her voice low, little more than a hiss to prevent anyone overhearing. “We need to deal with this.” She glanced around and saw Travis looking at her, giving a wave. She smiled back and return the wave, before turning back to Markus. “As quietly and as quickly as possible.”

To give Markus his credit, he told Rosie the full story once they left, away from where they might be overheard and cause a panic. They thought the hunter might be a valuable source of information, but he hadn’t said anything yet. His training was surprisingly good, and he hadn't cracked yet. But he couldn’t stay locked up in Markus’ basement forever, and they needed to do something with him. They spent the next few days trying to hatch a plan. Rosie could use her abilities to get him to talk, reveal everything him knew. But she wasn’t eager to do that. If he escaped, her giving away an element of her ability could potentially be used against them. It was only when she was in Travis’ shop, picking up a few things for dinner, that she had her brainwave. Getting a human to talk to the hunter could work. Let them think there was somebody on their side. Someone who could help. And they wouldn’t be giving away a tactical advantage.

Their plan came together relatively quickly after that. Rosie made a stop into Phoenix's café on her way home from class and managed to talk him into bringing Jaiden and Violet out for drinks. Markus and Rosie had both agreed that they needed to get Jaiden and Violet out of the house, just in case things went wrong. And a third party would keep them accountable. That and, well, from what Rosie could see, they all needed a night out with friends. She hadn't seen Jaiden that withdrawn since she'd first arrived in Greythorne, and now she was possibly worse than she had been then. And as much as Phoenix was pretending that everything was fine, Rosie knew it wasn't. She didn't know the details, but the marked absence of Alex from Phoenix's surroundings seemed to be part of the problem. And Violet had changed too, but possibly the least. Rosie could still see the old Violet every time she went to Markus'. She'd changed, of course she had. They all had. But Rosie could still get a smile out of her, which was more than she could say for some of the others.

She headed straight over to Markus' after class. Travis wasn't going to be finished for another while, but Rosie wanted to be there early in case Violet and Jaiden needed more persuasion, and because, as ever, she had essays to be marking. She wasn't sure whether or not Neden would be coming or if they were doing patrols that evening.

When he'd woken up the morning after the meeting, everything had felt like a horrible dream. And then it hit him again. None of it had been a nightmare. It had happened. And it felt like somebody was kicking him in the chest all over again. But he'd gotten up, as normal. He'd gone for his run, taking a different and slightly harsher path, but one that he knew meant would pose less of a risk of running into Alex. He'd gone home, showered, and gone to work.

And that had been his routine. Pretend everything was normal. Pretend that he didn't stare at his phone, waiting for a text that didn't come, writing texts he'd never send. Pretend that it didn't feel like somebody had cut off his left arm. Sure, he didn't need it, but not having it made things so much harder.

Abuela still came in, like she always did. Phoenix couldn't lie to her, couldn't tell her everything was fine. He gave her her usual supplies of bread and pastries when she came in instead of dropping them over before or after work.

"He misses you too, Phoenix, querido. He just can't say it." He didn't need to say anything. Abuela could always read him like a book, and lying would be a waste of time. He just smiled sadly and handed her the bag of baked goods.

Get up. Go for a run. Go to work. Pretend like the dark circles under his eyes didn't give away the fact he was snatching only a few hours of sleep every night and that that sleep was seldom restful. Nightmares plagued him from the moment he closed his eyes. And it wasn't like he had anyone to talk to them about.

He knew from the moment he saw Rosie's face that she was back into "caring english teacher" mode, and it at least gave him a couple of seconds to brace himself. But she didn't mention him, just said that she'd been around at Markus' and thought Jaiden and Violet needed a night out. He didn't know how she managed to talk him into agreeing to bring them out. But she had always been extraordinarily persuasive, even without having to use her abilities, so he found himself having committed to the plans.

He'd taken his time getting ready, waiting for an excuse to arise that would mean he didn't have to go. Going would just be a few more hours of pretending that everything was fine. It was bullshit, everyone knew it, but Jaiden didn't need his stupid crap on top of everything she was dealing with. He'd even put on eyeshadow and eyeliner to stretch it out, but eventually, there came a time when he had to leave to go meet Jaiden and Violet at Markus'. Shoving his phone in to his pocket, he turned and left, making his way across town.

He knocked on the Markus' door and was let in by Rosie, who chattered in her usual charming way, giving out about her freshmen. He just smiled and nodded, forcing a laugh at appropriate points, and mostly just prayed that Violet and Jaiden would appear soon. He loved Rosie, but he just... wasn't in the mood for that constant chatter right now.

Travis thanked Neden for even thinking about it and said he’d be waiting and they know where to find him before they walked off, watching as they wont over and talked to Rosie and Markus. He gave a wave over to Rosie before leaving, as well as flashing a smile to Kaylessa and telling her to stay safe out here, she just nodded and ran off to do whatever Kaylessa was going to do, not many people can tell her what to do, and even if they do she probably wouldn’t listen half the time.

The next day wasn’t anything special then the last, the meeting didn’t really cause people to act differently or change their feelings about how safe or unsafe Greythorne was. Travis was actually going to head back into town to resupply and get an update with his supervisor as well as tell them what he’s learned, which he didn’t get much since the attack. Was this because he honestly couldn’t find out much information besides the patrol, or because he didn’t want to and almost felt betrayed by his organization, he wasn’t even sure.

But when Rosie came in and told Travis about how Markus and Neden’s group had caught someone, he knew he couldn’t head back yet. He had to find out who it was and make sure they wouldn’t rat him out. Thankful with Rosie asking for help Trav knew they hadn’t broke him, yet. But knew it was only a matter of time, especially with some of the powers these monsters had. He agreed and told her he would come over after he closed up shop for the night.

For most of the day Travis was distracted with what Rosie had told him, trying to figure out what he was going to do. They expected him to interrogate the other human, get whatever information out of him, thinking a human might be more relaxed with someone they could relate to. It made sense, good plan, but Travis couldn’t risk this guy possibly giving information that could expose him. But then it hit Travis what he had to do. He could control what type of information the monsters would receive, be a man on the inside, feeding both sides information that he felt they would need to know, but then there was still the loose end of the man who had gotten himself captured…

Travis finally finished closing up shop and grabbed some things from his small apartment before heading over to Markus’, a place he hasn’t been to but scooped out a few times when he first arrived to Greythorne. The walk was quiet and Travis could once again feel like someone, or something, was following him. He knocked twice before little Rosie opened the door and let him in, he thanked her and walked in, chuckling at Rosie's outfit of choice. “You look nice tonight, glad you’re not letting all this damper who you are Rosie.” Trav said with a smile as he walked into the main room, seeing Neden and Markus already there along with a few others, though he was surprised Alex wasn't here with Phoenix. “I’m assuming this means my application was accepted Neden?” He said with a light chuckle trying to lighten the mood, and probably failing. “Well, when do we get started?”

Kaylessa smiled as Neden said she would consider working with Travis, she just wanted everyone to be nice to each other and knew that they would need to work together to get through this, and that Travis working with the others would be a start to this. She returned a smile to Travis before turning around and skipping back through the hall to grab her small cart and walked down the aisles of chairs in between people starting to clean up. Kay would quickly grab some of the trinkets she made that some people had left behind and put them in her cart, as her way of helping clean up and to also re-purpose her creations for another time. She knew most people didn’t hold onto everything she made and wasn’t too upset.

As the building started to empty out Kaylessa said bye to everyone and headed back outside to grab the rest of herself and head home, though when she got outside there was something on the ground to the side of the pathway in a patch of grass that caught her attention and she ran over to see what it was. A flower crown, on the ground ripped apart and destroyed on the ground, the same crown she gave Alex earlier.

Kay picked up the pieces of the crown slowly, a little frown on her face and set them on top of her cart. She knew some people didn’t like the crowns she made, but no one had ever destroyed one before, and she always thought Alex liked her and liked her crowns. Kaylessa skulked back to her home with her belongings, thinking and trying to figure out what this meant and why Alex would do this.

The next few days flew by and Kaylessa didn’t do much out in the town of Greythorne, she was more in one of her cleaning moods and cleaned and rearranged her place again. Though as she got almost done cleaning she found the destroyed flower crown from the day before, thinking back to the night, and decided she needed some advice and was curious about some stuff and headed out. First she went by Phoenix's store to ask him about it, but he wasn't there, or atleast ignored her bangings on his store's doors. The next stop was the lake, hopefully Zada would be there to talk.

“Zada! You out there?” Kaylessa shouted towards the water as she plopped down on the grass by the shore of the lake holding the crown, hopefully her mermaid friend would be here. If she wasn’t though Kay wouldn’t mind just laying down and staring at the sky. It was when she heard the breach of water that she looked back to the water and saw Zada. “Hey Zada… sorry to bother you but…” Kay paused for a second looking at the still damaged crown in her hands, before setting it down it down the grass. “I gave Alex this crown last night, and I found it like this. Why would he do this? I thought he liked me, liked what I made. What if he hates me, and just barely puts up with me. I get people don’t always keep the things I make them… but no ones ever done this.” She said staring at the ground, trailing off. “It… it hurts…”

The days following the meeting had been like any other for Zada: she woke up, leisurely got ready for the day, gathered up anything that needed to be returned to the library (or, in some cases, Rosie), and went about her day. But the last few days had been peppered with thoughts of how she could help the town. She really wasn’t much of a fighter, and wasn’t sure how much help she could be on patrols (what would she do if she encountered a hunter? Yell for help? Run for the lake and hope they follow?) Neither seemed to be particularly good ideas, so she decided to focus her energy on helping the others in town that may not be up for a fight. The town needed a plan, they needed to know what they were going to do when the hunters returned, and Zada wasn’t convinced that anyone competent was going to step up to get that job done.

Still, she wasn’t sure she’d lived in town long enough for many of the citizens to really trust her, or her judgement, and while she didn’t think they should be putting off emergency planning, she also didn’t think it should necessarily come from her.

So she spent her time much like she always had: filling it with books, music, and her evening swims at the lake. No one really worried about her much once she got to the water: only a fool would go swimming with a mermaid. She had eaten the hunters that had encountered her during the attack, so she was fairly certain that they wouldn’t be properly prepared to deal with her if she were in the lake when they returned.

This particular evening was no different: she was enjoying a swim in the cold water, though the cold didn’t bother her much. Still, many of the other residents of the town would balk at the idea of venturing into the lake this late in the year, if any of them went near it at all. Her clothing was stashed nearby; folded neatly on a tree stump just out of splashing range, which was generally a good indicator that she was there, even if she was beneath the surface of the water. She knew there was a good chance that the lake would be freezing over soon, and she wanted to enjoy it as much as she could before then. She tried to stay alert, in case anything happened, but it was hard to listen for anyone approaching with your head underwater.

She did think, however, that she heard someone calling out from the shore. She swam upwards, so just her eyes and the very top of her head was out of the water. Kaylessa. That seemed… Strange, that she would come to the lake. Zada went back under the surface of the water to swim closer to the shore. She let her head and shoulders come out of the lake, treading water to stay in place, and listened as Kay quickly spoke. Zada wasn’t sure she fully understood the young woman’s problem (why anyone would want Alex to like them was a mystery to her), but she still listened with that cold indifference on her face.

Zada looked from the flower crown, to Kaylessa’s face, and briefly considered her words before speaking. She flashed a small smile, lips closed, before saying, ”I don’t know Alex well,” This was the truth, they had only spoken once, and Zada decided he was too obnoxious to even look at, going forwards, ”But I do know him to be a foolish and impulsive man, which makes him worse than many of them.” Tentatively, Zada crawled from the lake, her fin slowly turning back into a pair of legs. The transformation was as painful as it looked, but Zada was used to it, and seemed unaffected.

Without bothering to cover up or get dressed, she scooped the ruined flower crown off the ground and sat beside Kay, silent for only a moment, ”Most every man you encounter will hurt- or at the very least disappoint- you, regardless of your relationship. I’ve found it to be in their nature: they’re destructive creatures.” She shook her head, ”At any rate, I would say he doesn’t deserve your creative abilities to be wasted on him, at the very least.”

Alex had spent the days following the meeting very much like he’d spent the three weeks before it, only he’d been even more isolated and alone without Phoenix in his life. He’d considered calling or texting, or anything. He knew he was wrong, but he wasn’t ready to admit it, so he spent much of his free time alone, using the time as an opportunity to practice an aspect of his power he’d only recently discovered; reaching out to touch the dead. He didn’t know if it was the same as what had happened to him when he’d been attacked, but physically it felt very much the same, and it allowed him to pet his dog, so he didn’t think about it more than he had to.

He also hadn’t been sleeping, and when he did, he had nightmares. These were different than the ones he’d had before. In the weeks past he’d dreamt mostly of wide scale death and destruction, but now his dreams were more personal, even somewhat disturbing in their scope. Alex knew what most of them meant, but he didn’t want to face the truth. He was too exhausted to face the truth, but he knew he needed to pull himself together, or he wouldn’t survive the next attack.

While the rest of the town went about their evenings, Alex found himself sitting on his bed the moment he’d returned home from work. He felt completely drained, though he’d only intended to rest for a moment. But his head felt so heavy, almost as if he hadn’t been holding it up his entire life, and he found himself lying down, just for a moment, he’d said to himself. But his eyes wouldn’t stay open, and he felt himself drifting to sleep, feeling very much as if he were floating away, losing control…
__________

Alex opened his eyes. All around him, there was a murky darkness, the kind where you can feel things floating just in front of you, but he couldn’t see a thing. His head was swimming, and he felt like, if he tried, he could swim in the thickness of the air around him. Then he heard the music: soft, instrumental, and vaguely celebratory. As he walked in its general direction, he found himself thinking, Am I dreaming? The fact that he even thought to ask was how he knew he wasn’t.

As he walked, and though at first the darkness seemed to stretch on forever, he noticed a small pinhole of light punching through the darkness; like a petulant child, demanding to be heard. To be noticed. He adjusted his course in that direction, though he wasn’t sure if it was because he wanted to, or because he didn’t have another choice. Either way, he walked for what seemed like an eternity before he came upon an ancient, wooden door. He recognized the song, then, and wondered what would be waiting for him beyond the door. He hesitated, for a moment, wondering if it would just be better to ignore it. This felt just like it always did when the spirits sent him a warning from beyond, but he didn't know if he wanted to understand. What kind of warning would they have for him at a wedding?

When he pushed the door open, he found himself outside, in a clearing in the woods. He knew it well, he went there often to think, and after he'd been attacked, he'd nearly gone there to let his immortal soul meet it's end. Today it seemed larger than possible, and filled with people. They were all sitting in folding chairs, dressed impeccably. Ahead of him was a wedding arch, beautifully decorated with twisting ivy, various white flowers, and deep red roses. A thousand thoughts crossed his mind, but the one that stuck was the reality that this was his wedding.

Something external propelled him forward, and kept him from looking to see the faces of the people in the crowd. He saw them in her peripheral vision, but couldn’t make out anything- or anyone- specific. When he reached the front, he stood, alone, for what seemed like an eternity, until someone appeared at his side. The excessive material of her dress brushed against his leg, but he couldn’t bring himself to turn his head, to get even a glimpse in her direction.

Then, all at once, he turned, lifted up the veil, and took in his new bride. She stood, lips cracked and thin- but spread into a wide smile. Where her eyes should have been were maggots, and her flesh in various states of decay. If Alex had ever met her, she was far beyond recognition. His head began to spin, and he looked out into the crowd, half filled with his friends and family, the rest resembling the woman by his side. Fire began to slowly fall on them all, as if sent as some sort of judgement from the heavens, and yet no one moved or even flinched. They were totally unfazed. One by one, however, they all began to decay. It started slowly, but quickly spread, like a plague among the living, until he was the only one left untouched. He turned to look at his bride, who was unfazed, and patiently waiting for him, and when he looked back at their guests, they all began to fade away, like a memory being slowly forgotten, until it was just the three of them left.

Alex, his undead bride, and a terrifying sense of urgency.

Witch | outfit : herex|xhex: #800000
xxxDo we need somebody
xxxJust to feel like we're alright?
xxxIs the only reason you're holding me tonight
xxx'Cause we're scared to be lonely?

The next few days that followed were as uneventful as anyone would have pictured. Jaiden had all but locked herself in her room once more and mainly refused to come out unless it involved taking a shower or eating with Markus and Violet. She tried so hard to make things go back to the way they were, how they used to be between her and everyone. But ever since the night at the meeting, things became less normal. She saw Alex less, which wasn't entirely all bad. But not seeing him with Phoenix, like he had always been was odd, but she figured they were just dealing with things and wasn't going to pry into it much. She learned not to get involved in other people's things. And being the recluse that she was, it wasn't very hard for her to stay out of other's drama and personal issues. As much as Jaiden wanted to be able to see her old friends again, something told her to just stay to herself. Stay in her room. Stay away from the others and no one else can get hurt. If no one can get hurt, then nothing bad can happen, right? At least that's what she kept telling herself over and over again. Even after the accident all those years ago that brought her to Greythorne in the first place, didn't have this type of effect on her. Is this what losing someone she cared about felt like? It had been so many years that she almost forgot what it felt like to lose someone she cared about..

Jaiden found herself in an even darker hole than she was days prior, and it seemed to only be getting worse. Withdrawing herself away from everyone and anyone. Even Markus was slowly not having an effect on her. Even though he wasn't the best company in general, he was trying, and Jaiden could see that. She could see what everyone was doing, and how they were trying to help, but she only felt like a burden and it made her push them further and further away. If she didn't have anyone close, then no one could get hurt. At least not by her. She could feel herself retreating further into her old mind set, and it was slowly starting to eat away at her. Jaiden knew it wasn't a healthy substitute for hiding her pain, but she didn't know what else to do or how to talk about it. Everyone else had their own problems, and she didn't want to push her own onto others, not again. It was today that Markus told her that he was going to make sure that she got out of the house. She had no say in the matter and that it would be like old times, with old friends. That they'd be going out for a few drinks, and that it would be good for her. Get her out of the house, and have her with people she could trust. That, and she knew what Markus and Rosie were thinking. If things went downhill, they'd all be together and no one could get hurt. Or at least as minor of casualties as they could afford.

As ever begrudgingly as before, she agreed. It could perhaps be a good time and she did miss her friends. So, why not? She had gotten dressed after taking a shower and did as minor of makeup as she could afford to. She knew it would be a few hours before anyone arrived before they'd leave, and she was content to stay in her room until then. But a soft knock alerted her to someone wanting to get in, so she let them in and it turned to be Violet. Simply asking for help as she wanted to make some snacks before people got here. Jaiden agreed and the next few hours had been spent making small baked goods, like muffins and cookies. It was the first time in weeks that Jaiden actually had a good time and didn't feel like entire garbage. They had finally finished making all the snacks when the doorbell went off the first time, alerting them to someone finally arriving. Markus had gone to the door to let Violet and Jaiden clean up the kitchen, and as he came back they saw that Rosie had arrived first. After small talk and some light-hearted jokes between Rosie and Jaiden, she could feel herself smiling a little as some of the others arrived, like Phoenix and even Neden who showed up shortly after the others. But it didn't last long as talk of the situation had arisen when Travis finally arrived to the house. The mood had dipped slightly as he made a joke to Neden about it being his pass and welcome into the patrol unit. Jaiden didn't entirely hear what they said in turn as Jaiden excused herself into the kitchen. She could feel her heart beginning to race, the last thing she wanted to do was cause a scene. Was even the simplest mention of hunters easy enough to set of her panic and anxiety? Jaiden didn't know, but all she was able to do was try and calm herself down.

xxxThe world was on fire and no one could save me but you
xxxIt's strange what desire will make foolish people do
xxxI never dreamed that I'd meet somebody like you
xxxAnd I never dreamed that I'd lose somebody like you

The next few days that followed were as Markus had figured they'd go. Interrogating, questioning, and none stop on guard duty of making sure the Hunter didn't escape. To give credit where it was due, the Hunter didn't go down easily and had put up well enough of a fight. Well, from what Neden said the Hunter had put up a fight, which resulted in his arm having been broken in the ensuing fight. From what little information they got, which wasn't much of anything, it was safe to assume he was with the Hunters that attacked the night of the festival. Markus knew they would come back, they always did, and he was prepared for it. Until this small incident happened. He knew the others would be mad when they found out about it, and sure enough, some were. Especially Rosie. He knew she was going to be angry when she found out, and it's why he had wanted to wait to tell her. But Neden had to go and open their mouth and make mention of it. Which, sure enough, led to him receiving an earful from the short siren. And sure enough, he did.

But as time passed he was able to explain more to Rosie, mainly that he was going to tell her. He just wanted to tell her when he had everything set in stone, and nothing could go wrong. All that mattered now was that they had a small plan, they just had to figure out what to do. It was when Rosie told Markus of her idea, of having Travis talk to the Hunter that he was put further on edge. He wasn't sure what to think, he didn't have the best feeling towards Travis and he didn't know what the human would do. And the last thing he'd plan is to trust a human, with someone like a Hunter. It only took much talking from Rosie and even Neden to see their reasoning, and how it could be an advantage for them to let Travis talk with their new guest. Which, he finally agreed. And now he found himself in his small home, in the woods, with what seemed like half of Greythorne in his home. He didn't mind it, it was just having so many people at once in his home. Markus casually sat on the couch in the living room, petting the dog as more people slowly filled his house.

Markus silently watched as everyone talked and caught up with each other. That was until the hairs on the back of his neck stood on end. He watched as Rosie walked over to the door and opened it, letting someone walk in. At first he watched in silence as Rosie came back, with Travis. A lump formed in his throat as he watched the human make his way in his home. He was about to question how he knew where he lived, then he guessed Rosie had told him. He eyed him in silence for a moment, before Travis asked Neden if he had been accepted into the patrols. Markus just silently rolled his eyes as he stood up, "Still debating. It's Neden's choice on the matter. Now, does anyone have any questions or things to say before Rosie starts this thing until we can leave?" he questioned.

Ghost | outfit : herex|xhex: #6605ab
xxxI'm scared to live but I'm scared to die
xxxAnd if life is pain then I buried mine a long time ago
xxxBut it's still alive
xxxAnd it's taking over me where am I?

Days had passed since Violet had her conversation with Alex, and she knew the last thing he said to her before they separated ways was utter bullshit. She knew he wasn't going to keep his word, or even think about it. He was Alex, and the only person he cared about right now was himself. She hoped that what happened had helped change him, but with everything that happened, she knew he was on a downward slope, and it wasn't a good sign. They were all on self-destructive spirals, some more than others, but Alex was one that worried her more so than the others and she wasn't exactly sure why. She never really cared for Alex, and why should she have? He was nothing but mean and rude and hurtful to her for years on end, and then the attack happened and...Just ruined it all. She didn't know why she felt the way she did, and wasn't sure of the cause. All she knew was that things were different than they were before, and it wasn't just what changed in her. Which, she still hadn't figured it out. She had gone to the library countless times over the past few days and even stayed at the library over a few nights. She didn't think that the town's library had anything in search of whatever she was looking for, whatever it was. But it was worth a shot. Anything about the supernatural, particularly ghosts and the occult. Anything that had to do with a spiritual realm. Anything that could explain what had happened, but nothing. There was nothing. She doubted the library would have knowledge on anything that was seen as forbidden or too dark for common people to know.

All she had to go off of was necromancy and dark magic in that realm of things. Which, was a start and had some books back at Markus' house that she borrowed from the library. But even that wasn't enough for her. She had one other place to go and she didn't like it. There was one family in Greythorne that would possibly help her with any questions she may have, but that would require her to have to talk to someone she wasn't the biggest fan of and if she was being honest, she wasn't in the mood for his current bullshit. All Violet knew now is that she found herself waking up in bed, lying there silently, or as silent as it could be if those damned voices would leave her alone. They were always there, always just out of hearing range to hear what they were saying. A constant, nagging echo that never left. Even in her sleep, she could hear those still soft voices, egging her on to someplace she didn't know where. After a quick shower and change of clothes, she ate with Markus who quickly left to do some short patrols. While Markus was gone, Violet crept over to Jaiden's door, and gently knocked. She doubted she'd get a response, as she seemingly never did. But this time, she got a quiet, "Come in." from the other side. She smiled and pushed the door open, and entered the room. It was somewhat dark, except for a small light in the corner that lit the room up enough to see. She saw Jaiden on the bed, sitting silently.

Violet stood in the doorway for a moment as she thought of what to say, biting her bottom lip for just a moment, "We have people coming over later, as you know, and I was wondering if you'd want to help me bake? I could use the help, as well as the company." she said with a small smile. She was being genuine, as well as wanted to help Jaiden get out of her current funk and go back to being that socially awkward self, not this self-hating version. Violet was all but pleasantly surprised when Jaiden said sure, and the two got to preparing the food for later that day. They spent hours preparing the cookie dough and mixture for the muffins, all with some trial and error. Burned a few batches and even somehow got a few stuck to the ceiling, which they promptly ignored. After some time, Markus had finally come back home to the disaster that was his home. After playfully yelling at the two, he helped them clean the kitchen as well as he could, ignoring the batter and food scraps that somehow got onto the ceiling. Soon guests made their way to the home and were welcomed in. Violet silently sat on the couch, eating some of the baked goods that they had made as Markus' dog Coco ran about the house before she found herself cuddled up on the couch. After some small talk with Rosie and the others, Travis found his way in.

Violet found herself silently staring at him, watching his every move. She couldn't even fake a smile or laugh at his attempt of a joke with Neden who was sitting on the opposite end of the room. Violet just simply glared at him, nothing ever felt right about him, and every time she saw him she felt cold. More so than usual. All she was able to do was sit in the chair, petting Coco as the others talked, feeling out of place as usual.

xxx'Cause I could touch a hundred thousand souls
xxxBut none of them would ever feel like home
xxxAnd no matter how far and wide I roam
xxxYou're the only one I'll ever know

The days that followed the meeting were a mix of uneventful and eventful. From what seemed like endless patrols, to accepting new members into the group, and showing them the ropes. It was something that they liked and didn't mind doing, especially when Markus was busy with his own things at home with the girls. Everything aside from that minor hiccup with the Hunter, was rather pleasant and smooth going. From making short and quick patrols during the day to making sure everyone had been put where they should during the nights, everything had gone by so much smoother and easier. Everything seemed to be going like a dream, until Neden had heard some soft whispers of a meeting at Markus' home. They had never been to the Lycan's home, nevermind really having spent much time in anyone's home as Neden simply lived among the Spriggans and tree-folk of Greythorne. While it wasn't a common occurrence for people to live without a home in Greythorne, it wasn't an unwelcome sight. As some preferred to be with nature itself over living in four walls.

Days came and went and finally, the day arrived. Neden was on the roof of the town hall, simply sitting in silence as they observed from above. Like a bird of prey, they silently sat in place. Their eyes scanning the town from afar, something that they had done for the past year. Preferring to be an overwatching spector, rather than someone that deliberately interacted with the townspeople, unless they really wanted to. Not to say they weren't a people person, they were, just not many people were a fan of their theatrics and over the top personality. Which, was perfectly fine, but at the same time left Neden wanting a sense of companionship rather than being lonely. Which, is why Neden tended to live with the tree-folk and faeries, as they tended to put up and go along with their dramatics.

As the sun finally began to go down, Neden found it was time to go. After giving one more look over the town from their spot, they hopped off with ease. A small plume of dust spread across their feet, dusting themselves off Neden began to make their way towards Markus' home. Finally, after a rather long and silent walk through the woods, they finally arrived at a very small, and oddly humble home. After knocking on the door, Neden was let in. Giving a small hug to everyone as they passed by, and some small talk before grabbing a small plate of food, and sat in the corner. Neden's head snapped up when Travis gave a small comment on him having been accepted into the group since he was here. After finishing off the brownie that Neden had been in the middle of eating when they were questioned, Neden simply dusted the crumbs off their hands as they spoke, "Consider this your initiation, Travis. Even then, I get to choose." they said with a somewhat cold and unamused tone. "Besides, I'm not sure a human would be capable of what we need to get done. But maybe you can prove us wrong." they quickly rattled off as they ate a chocolate chip cookie, giving Violet a small wink of approval.

xxxtell me what i'm gonna do now
xxxcause i feel a little lost without you
xxxi'm a little bit lost without you
xxxhear me, hear me out.
There was more people here than Phoenix had been expecting. A plate of baked goods was handed around, somebody explaining that Violet and Jaiden had been baking. The atmosphere was familiar and warm. It might have been comforting at any other time, but now, more than ever, Phoenix felt that absence, that feeling of nothing where usually there was something. His half smile felt more forced than ever.

And then Travis arrived. The shift in the atmosphere was considerable as people regarded him with considerable, and perhaps justified wariness. His joke fell flat and did nothing to reduce the tension. Phoenix spotted Jaiden slipping out of the room, and silently followed her out, slipping in to the kitchen after her. Being away from the crowd was an odd relief, feeling like tension had been removed from his chest.

"Hey," he said quietly, careful not to scare her. He wasn't entirely sure what to say. He knew not to ask her if she was okay. None of them were okay. Asking what was wrong was a stupid question, he knew exactly what was wrong.

"You did a good job on the baking," he said with a small smile. "Listen, we don't have to go to the bar or whatever. We can just go back to mine and do whatever. Sit in silence and stare into space. Watch a movie. Whatever. I think Markus and Rosie just want us out of the way... just in case." He didn't know exactly what was going on, but it didn't take a genius to figure out that they seemed to be the ones everyone else turned to.

Rosie smiled as Travis complimented her outfit. "Thank you. In terrible times, someone's got to bring the colour, right?" She said, before heading back into the sitting room where the others were. She could feel the shift in atmosphere the moment the others saw him, and internally, she prepared herself. Markus hadn't been terribly receptive to the idea, and she was pretty sure Neden had only agreed because, tactically, it made sense.

Travis' quip about being accepted on to the patrols fell about as flat as Rosie had been anticipating, and she just internally winced. She knew why the others were hesitant, but they needed to be able to work together if this was going to work. She ran a hand through her hair as Markus clarified that she would be starting things moving. She cleared her throat, not willing to give anyone a chance to ask any questions.

"So far, our house guest has been pretty unwilling to talk. He's also been pretty damn stubborn and has put up a fight. But he seems to recognise us as "monsters" which is why he's been so stubborn. But he might be a little more receptive to another human, which is where you come in. Pretend to be his friend. Pretend to sympathise. I don't care what you have to tell him to get information out of him, just do it. And if he's not talking, we'll... figure something else out." They didn't want to just kill him, not when he could potentially provide information, but he was also a liability. If he escaped, they could have a real issue on their hands. "One thing that opinions have been divided on. Do you want one of us down there in case he does put up a fight? I don't think he's seen me yet, I can go down with you. I'm... probably the least threatening." She said with a small smirk, glancing at Neden and Markus.

Travis sighed as there was minimal reaction to his ‘joke.’ He could also feel the tension in the room and could easily slice it with knife he had in his boot, he knew these people didn’t like him much, even though he hasn't done anything, to their knowledge, against them. Plus what Neden had said didn’t give much confidence either about proving them wrong. Before Travis could remark or reply to Neden, Rosie quickly spoke up and took control of the conversation and the situation going on.

Trav chuckled a bit when Rosie called the hostage they were keeping a house guest, they definitely weren’t treating him as one, but then asked his opinion on if he wanted someone down there with him, which he was surprised he was being asked and not just told. “No, I think it’s best if I’m in there alone, as you said, hes not reacting positively to y’all, no offence.” He said taking a glance around the room, seeing a little bit more empty than when he entered. “Even if he hasn’t seen you yet, we don’t know what they know, they had to have some sort of information to attack us during the festival. Safer if you stay up here Rosie.” He paused for a second smiling to Rosie. “And of course for the others too you know.”

“Should be back up in a few minutes, might make some noise.” Travis said as he entered the basement and closed the door behind him, making his way to the man tied with hands behind his back, approaching him slowly and putting his finger to his lips, signalling the man to hush. As he got closer he recognized who the man was. Jacobs Hainsfield, though mostly went by Jay. He was a scout for the Branded and rarely actually went into combat. The man glared at Travis while he scanned the room finally seeing a rusty nail on the ground. “Here, take this and start using it to get out of the rope, way for you to escape without blowing my cover. I’ll feed them some false information or something.” Travis whispered to the man handing him the nail behind his back into his palms and him getting to work to weaken the rope. “Or you free me now and we kill these monsters!” The guy practically shouted at Travis. He just sighed. “You know it’s not that easy. There’s a couple witches up stairs, a siren, and a werewolf at the minimum.” The man just spit on the ground. “You’re sympathizing Greeves… There’s talk you fell victim to their seducing and you should be terminated.” Travis sighed and leaned against the wall and began asking questions that he already knew the answers to incase someone was listening, Jacobs just saying to release him now as well as some vulgar remarks and comments

A little while longer Travis stayed in the basement, to still give the impression he was interrogating. He was standing in front of the captive when the door behind him opened, surprising him a little bit, but seeing it was Rosie. “I said stay upstairs Rosie, I’m just about done anyways. I got some good infor-” Travis was interrupted as he was pulled from behind and punched in the gut and thrown over the chair, the chair that Jacobs was sitting in before now attacking.

Rosie let out a small scream out of surprise before Jacobs covered her mouth and putting the rusty, iron, nail against Rosie’s neck. “Hush little Siren, don’t want you bursting my ears or putting me under a trance with that pretty voice of yours. You’re my ticket out of here since this traitor to huma-” Then two gunshots went off and Jacobs fell to the ground. Behind Jacobs was Travis on one knee holding the gun that had killed Jacobs. “I’m… I’m sorry… I didn’t want him to hurt you...” He said sliding his gun aside as he saw Neden and Markus enter the basement. He then slowly stood up holding his leg, hurting it a bit when he tumbled over the chair, he gave Rosie a remorseful look before Neden, Markus, or anyone started talking.

Collectibles

By creating Collectibles, you can reward your players with unique items that accentuate their character sheets.

Once an Item has been created, it can be spawned in the IC using /spawn Item Name (case-sensitive, as usual) — this can be followed with /take Item Name to retrieve the item into the current character's inventory.

Mobs

Give your Universe life by adding a Mob, which are auto-replenishing NPCs your players can interact with. Useful for some quick hack-and-slash fun!

Mobs can be automated spawns, like rats and bats, or full-on NPCs complete with conversation menus. Use them to enhance your player experience!
