i know the world's a broken bonexxx outfit | #c4a7be xxx but melt your headaches, call it home

Phoenix hadn’t known what to expect from this. The way his day was going, he hadn’t been expecting anything all that good. It took a few minutes to try and process what Neden was actually saying. It was only when they rolled up their sleeve to show the tattoo that everything fell into place, and it felt like the floor was about to go from under Phoenix. He’d seen that tattoo once before. The night in the graveyard, on the neck of the hunter that had attacked him. The memory made him feel sick, and he was shocked when he stood up and discovered his legs could still hold him. He didn’t say anything. He couldn’t say anything. He managed to make it to the kitchen, where his legs finally crumpled and he almost fell onto one of the stools he had by the counter.

This couldn’t be happening. This had to be some horrific dream, a nightmare that he could wake up from, no matter how vivid it felt now. But he could feel the sting of nails embedded in his palm as he clenched his hands into fists. The scar on his side, on his shoulder, they seemed to be burning with the memory. He knew that Neden had said it had been years ago, knew how sorry they had seemed, but he couldn’t shake the fact that they had been one of them, that at some point they had hated people like them enough to kill them. It was starting to feel like everything he had, every good relationship was falling apart, and it was all so far beyond his control and he couldn’t change a goddamn thing. He wanted to cry, wanted to scream, wanted to yell, but his body wouldn’t move, wouldn’t react. He was frozen in his hunched position, just wanting to try and shield himself from anything else that could happen, anything else that could go wrong.

He didn’t know how long he’d been there before he heard a soft, familiar voice. It wasn’t the one he wanted to hear, though. “Phoenix, you need to go home. I can handle things here for you if you want,” Rosie said. “But you can’t work like this.”
“No, I can
I’ll be fine, just give me a few minutes.”
“Phoenix, you’ve been here for half an hour already. Go home. I’ll look after things here. You okay going home by yourself?”
“I- yeah. Call me if anything goes wrong or if- if you need to check anything or-”
“I will, alright? Just go home, if I see Alex, I’ll tell him you’ve gone home, you weren’t feeling well.”

The mention of Alex made Phoenix’s stomach tighten. But he shakily got to his feet, feeling the tension in his muscles from sitting in one position for so long. He left out the back door and made his way back to the apartment. He just kicked off his shoes and lay on the bed, staring into space. He had no idea how he was supposed to process any of this, how he was supposed to deal with it. His phone buzzed and it felt like it took all of his energy just to roll over and look at his phone. His stomach twisted again as he saw Alex’s name pop up on the phone. He was staying with Jaiden for the night.

Phoenix had ruined everything again.

At some point, he managed to drag himself up and get something to eat. It tasted like nothing, felt like it was just a routine, just something his body demanded he do even if he didn’t want to. He fell asleep shortly after going back to bed, still in his clothes, just wrapped in a blanket. It wasn’t a restful sleep. It was nightmare after nightmare after nightmare. He was in another attack, running to try and get to Rosie, to Zoe, to Jaiden, to Alex, and every time, he was too late. Alex turning into a demon. Everything, everyone Phoenix touched turning to sand. He kept waking up and kept falling asleep, could never stay awake no matter how bad the nightmare was.

He only woke up properly when he heard the door to the apartment shut. He went to check the time on his phone, but realised he’d forgotten to plug it in the night before and it had died.

The silence at first was heavy. Phoenix had no idea where to start. I’m sorry. I missed you even though it was only for a night. I’m so scared and I don’t know what to do. I should have trusted you. I didn’t sleep as well without you, He started with telling him about Neden.

Over the next few weeks, things started to get back to normal. They talked about it after Alex had forced Phoenix to shower, change his clothes and have coffee, and Phoenix had made breakfast for them both. But Phoenix wasn’t able to let it go. He still found himself getting stuck on how easy it had been for him to give into believing Alex was cheating on him, how easy he’d given in to his own insecurity. Even that morning, when Alex had disappeared for a few hours, the possibility had crossed his mind, if only for a second before he’d denied it. They hadn’t talked about that morning, but it still weighed on Phoenix’s mind. There was something
different now, something unspoken, and Phoenix didn’t want to ask. Because now it was Phoenix who kept waking up in the middle of the night, haunted by nightmares. They’d been there before, they’d been there since the first attack, worse since the second. But now it seemed like Alex slept the whole night unless Phoenix’s nightmares were bad enough to wake Alex up too. And Phoenix had no idea what that meant.

A day or two after everything, Rosie had swung by with letters from them both from Neden. Phoenix had opened his. It was a mess of scrawling writing, of sentences written and scribbled out until they were illegible. But the main message was there. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you. He hadn't thrown away the letter, had kept it wedged between two books on his bookshelf. Somewhere safe, where he could find it if he wanted, but also where he wouldn't have to stare at it every single day.

The morning was the first warm day in weeks. It was the first day things felt like spring again. The sunny weather made Phoenix stupidly happy. He hated winter anyway, and now he associated too many bad things with snow on the ground. The market was open for the first time in the season. The familiar sights and smells made Phoenix feel at peace, even just briefly.

It had been a couple months since Travis left Greythorne, and not exactly how he was planning on doing it. After Rosie gave him the chance to run before she spilled his secret and after saying his goodbye to Kaylessa, his first stop was the Branded outpost for the area and quickly asked what the fuck was going on. After a bit of hostility and being needed to be told to calm down, his higher ups explained the situation and their plan.

The Branded had gotten enough information from Travis to pull him out, and continue with just smaller patrols of scouts on the edges to keep eyes on the town. That and they knew about him and the siren, about how they were worried he was going to start getting soft and the letter was a good way to force him to leave, and after some time the town would start letting down their guard and they would strike when the time was right.

Travis wasn’t happy with what he was hearing, he tried explaining how the supernaturals there weren’t monsters. He was just scoffed at and then reminded about what happened to his parents, and what they were doing was to prevent that from happening to others. Trav just bit his tongue and excused himself from the briefing and headed out, quickly being given some new missions, ones that were more straightforward than trying to infiltrate a town.

The days and weeks seemed to drag by for Travis. Every silent moment he was thinking about Greythorne. He honestly missed the town. The sweet aura and smile of Kay, the daily goofiness and drama Alex, Phoenix, Violet, and Jaiden would be a part of, and especially his time spent with Rosie. Living in Greythorne made him actually feel normal for once, and he had to throw it all away.

One day he was called back into the meeting to discuss some things about Greythorne; mostly just to get confirmation on the type of people there and other information. Travis asked what was going on and one of the others began to speak about how they were planning a multiwave attack in the coming days,, but was quickly cut off by another, about how a few more things had to be set in stone. After some more talking Trav excused himself and headed back to his current safe house.

During the drive Travis stopped at an intersection, the light from a lamp post shining into his car and reflecting off the necklace he hung from the mirror of his truck. The disco ball necklace he gifted to Rosie on christmas, the same one she shoved into his hand during their last interaction. Trav sat at the stop sign for a little bit longer than needed as his regrets and thoughts went through his mind about Greythorne. He couldn’t just let the Greythorne and be attacked. He could barely make it through his days after causing the death he had to witness, if the Branded was actually able to rid Greythorne like they talked, he would be even more broken.

Travis ran his hand over his face and through his hair as he sat in his truck, two thoughts going through his mind. Continue on with the Branded, continue trying to forget about Greythorne and the citizens that live there and the death he caused and the death that would come again. Or go back. Go back to Greythorne and try to help them. But Rosie made it clear she didn’t want anything to do with him, and Travis assumed most of the rest of the town wanted his blood in return for all he did and caused.

As a car finally rolled up behind him and honked after waiting on Travis he knew he had to make a decision now, one he would have to live with. The easy choice of walking away, or the hard choice of going back and facing his past and demons. One that would guarantee him to live, but having to deal with his internal demons, or one that would quite possibly end with his death. But he knew what to choose, one that would most certainly end with his blood running, but hopefully not many others’.

After loading his truck up with some things, Travis was on the road back towards Greythorne, going over what he was going to say in his a hundred times, but unable to stick to one thing. He knew he couldn’t talk to Rosie, she wouldn’t listen to anything he would say. He left on good terms with Kay, but even though she was sweet, she wouldn’t be able to defend him, no matter what she said. Most others would attack him the moment they saw him. There were only a few people left in town he could get a word or two through before any sort of chaos. Neden. Travis wasn’t sure what Neden was, but they at least seemed like the most rational and logical of the group, and the type of aura they would give off was different than the others. If anyone in Greythorne would listen to Travis for a second, it would be them.

Finding the road into Greythorne wasn’t hard since he made the drive so often when he was undercover, only a few things changed over the months. Travis sped down it as he turned down it, the Branded attack would happen soon, if what he was able to gather before leaving was true so every moment not in Greythorne trying to warn them was another moment towards more death.

As he hit the outskirts of the town before the clearing he parked his truck behind some bushes and covered it with a camouflage tarp, most of the supernatural beings would find it easier, but at least it wasn’t in the open. Travis turned sharply, gripping his pistol as he heard a noise in the bushes, but didn’t see anything around him. He sighed as he was worried it might be a scout heading into town to report on him or the numerous spriggans that would roam the woods, so he had to move fast

While lingering in the bushes on the edge of town he saw a familiar pair, someone he was actually glad to run into first before heading into town. Kaylessa and Hayden. “Kaylessa.” He said in a loud whisper to try to get her attention. Kaylessa peaked up and saw him, confused to see him, but Hayden looked more defensive and pushed Kay behind him. “Whoa whoa. I’m not here to be a problem. You really think I would try to sneak back into town when the whole town wants me dead. I’m here to warn you. I need to talk to someone who will actually listen to me and who has the respect of the town. Please, I need you to go find Neden.” Travis asked, keeping his hands in the open not trying to spook them.

Before Kay and Hayden could leave though, another person walked up, but this time it was someone Travis was trying to avoid and one of the last people he wanted to see at the moment, Rosie. “Shit. Rosie wai-” But she quickly cut him off with showing hostility, he could then sense what she was trying to do, use her trance to enthrall him. “Wait!” He shouted, to try to get her attention. “Fine. I’ll go with you, no need to cause trouble.” He said as he stared at her, lowering his head with the offhand comment she said next.

Travis turned to Kay and Hayden as he walked off with Rosie, nodding his head hoping they wouldn’t follow Rosie’s demands of not telling anyone, but would understand if they listened to Rosie rather than him. He was curious though. Trav came here expecting Rosie to try to attack him if she saw him, but at the moment seemed like she had something else in mind. Would this be better or worse than just killing him? He would find out later.

The rest of the fundraiser went smooth for Kayless and Hayden, both enjoying their food and the time together, though she could tell something was bothering the others after talking with Neden. Kay was supposed to talk to her about something but quickly lost track of time with Hayden, plus she knew if it was really important she would find out later, either from Rosie or Zada. The new she did receive she wasn’t expecting. Neden use to be a hunter, like how Travis was. When Rosie first told Kay this, Kay quickly asked if Neden was like Travis, though Rosie just said that Neden wasn’t anymore, unlike Travis who left and still is.

At first she wasn’t sure what to do with this. Neden had always been a nice person and that’s all Kay knew her as, she didn’t know Neden when they were a hunter so she couldn’t judge her for that. In the following days Kay sought out Neden and talked to her a bit more about it, telling her she didn’t see them any different and that people could change, and how she was sorry for what she did, much like how Travis told her she was sorry before she left.

Neden was confused on how Kay knew about Travis before he left, and Kay let it slip that the letter Rosie had said Travis’ name and that Rosie had lied about the whole thing within three days revealing the hunter spy. Kay quickly apologized and didn’t mean to keep a secret from anyone and she was sorry, though Neden just told her it was okay and not her fault before the two said bye to each other and Kayless went home.

A couple weeks had gone by since the fundraiser and talking to Neden, and everything in town was going pretty good. It was starting to warm up a bit, though this didn’t effect Kay too much, and people were outside more often. Her and Hayden would go on daily walks around town, sometimes talking to the others and she wanted people to trust Hayden more, or just walk by the woods enjoying eachothers company with nature.

Though one morning while Kay and Hayden on one of their walks a voice caught her ears, as she looked around she saw someone, and surprised to see them as well. “T-Travis?” She questioned, she was about to run over to him, but Hayden stepped in front of her. Travis quickly told Hayden that he wasn’t here to harm anyone, but to help. And was asking to talk to Neden. But Neden just left. Does he know Neden use to be a hunter like him? She thought to herself for a moment.

Before Kayless and Hayden could leave to go find Neden, Rosie approached, and not too happy. Quickly telling Kay and Hayden to leave. “But Rosie, he’s no-” Rosie shot her a look, one that she remembered from the days of being her student in school. She ducked her head down and took a step back. Kay just watched as Rosie led Travis off, not exactly knowing where they went.

“Hayden we need to tell someone about this, Travis asked us to.” Kay said as she turned to Hayden. At first he was a little reluctant, but Kay pleaded with him, about how Travis is sorry and he wouldn’t come back here for no reason, especially since so many people distrusted him now. Hayden said he might have an idea and the two went off quickly.

With Neden gone now too, Rosie’s hands just seemed to get ever more full. She wasn’t training quite as much as she had been, but Jaiden seemed to need it a little less than she had before. With class being back, she was back grading essays and trying to make lesson plans and doing everything else too. It was stressful and sometimes overwhelming, but it was also a welcome distraction.

She’d taken it on herself to deliver the letters that Neden had left behind. Some people just seemed to put them aside, and one or two ripped them up the minute Rosie handed it to them. Honestly, she couldn’t blame them. She didn’t blame Neden, but she also knew that people had lost too much to the hunters to just move on. She’d read her own, of course, and she’d kept it. A reminder that people could change with enough time.

She was taking some time for herself in the garden, drinking iced tea, when she could hear someone approaching. Evelyn emerged from the trees, her demeanor completely changed. She stuck to the darker part of Rosie’s garden, hanging back as if she had bad news.

“Everything okay, Evelyn?”
“Travis is back,” she blurted out. “I was on patrol and I saw him, he’s back-“
“Show me where you saw him,” she ordered. The two of them sprinted through the trees, Rosie’s mood cycling through a number of steps. There was relief, and she didn’t know how she felt about that. But overall, she was afraid that something was coming. That he was either there as the first wave, or he was there to warn them.

And then she saw him. Kay and Hayden were already there. “You go back to town, Evelyn. Get everyone from the patrols ready for a fight. And thank you. For telling me and not just killing him.”
“Any time, Rosie.”

“Kay, Hayden, get out of here,” she ordered as she approached them, almost stepping between them and Travis. Travis tried to interject.
“No, shut it. You don’t get to talk right now,” she ordered. When Kay tried to interrupt, Rosie shot her a look she knew Kay would understand. “Go. Now. Both of you.”

“Listen to me-“ she started, but Travis knew exactly what she was about to do and told her to stop, that he’d come regardless. “Me? Causing trouble? That’s ironic,” she snarled. “Try to run and you’ll regret it.”

They started back towards her house, staying a step or two behind him the whole time so she could intervene if he tried anything. The spriggans and the dryads seemed to bristle threateningly, as if backing her up. She had the upper hand here. “You shouldn’t have come back,” she warned.

Things had been weird since the brunch. Him and Kay had enjoyed themselves. The food had been fantastic and everyone seemed to have a nice time. That was, until Rosie came by to speak to Kay. Apparently one of their friends had told them that they had been a hunter a long time ago. Kay seemed troubled at first, but Rosie managed to put her mind at ease, and Hayden was okay with that.

The warm weather was welcome, taking the edge off his constant cold, and everyone seemed to be a little more happy and a little more relaxed. He was enjoying being here, especially as people began to trust him a little more and things seemed to get back to normal. He had almost forgotten that there was some reason he was supposed to be here, even if the thought did appear in the back of his mind every so often.

It was a nice morning, and him and Kay were out for a walk when a voice called out to Kay. They both turned around, and Travis, the traitor and hunter, was standing there. Almost instinctively, Hayden stepped in front of Kay to protect her. Travis said he wasn’t there to hurt them and just wanted to talk to Neden. Hayden had a moment of wondering how he knew Neden was back, before realizing that he probably had no idea they had left in the first place.

When Rosie appeared, Hayden very much took it as an order to leave. Kay, however, didn’t seem to be so eager to leave. She wanted to defend Travis, but Hayden wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible. He would have been happy enough to just leave Travis and Rosie to it, but Kay managed to persuade him that they did need to find Neden. He’d only seen a glimpse of them the day before, but his gut told them that they were back in town. So they made their way to their house, praying that they were in. Hayden took a deep breath and knocked.

Triss and Zada had barely walked inside and into the crowded room when the mermaid pulled out her phone talking about if she was needed somewhere. Triss just shrugged and followed her into the back room, grabbing a drink off the table before they entered the back room.

Triss sat in a chair and crossed her legs as more people started to enter, and a platinum blonde looking female creature went to the center and began talking. She didn’t really pay attention to what she was saying, but was surprised when wings expanded from the creatures back, black in color. Ah
 an angel
 hadn’t seen one before
interesting. She thought to herself, not surprised too much since Zada had told her about how different types of creatures and beings lived their lives in Greythorne, it being a sort of a sanctuary.

Though as this angel continued speaking, revealing a sort of tattoo, everyone in the room started to show some symptoms of being upset, and the angel continued to apologize for something that was years ago. Trisstana glanced over at Zada and just saw her staring at the angel, before just getting up and storming off. Triss looked around at the others and finished her drink before trying to catch up with Zada, grabbing her jacket off the table on her way out.

It didn’t take long for her to catch up to Zada, assuming she was heading home and she was right. Triss kept her hands in her pocket and didn’t say much during the walk, feeling the energy off of Zada that she didn’t want to talk. Though she would ask her later on what this was all about as she had no idea what was going on. As they entered Zada’s place, the mermaid turned and spoke to her, about not knowing people fully and apologizing. “Its
okay?” Was all Triss really able to say before Zada went to her room and closed the door. She shrugged to herself before going to the bathroom and wiping herself down from the coffee and quickly going to sleep.

The next day Trisstana walked into Zada’s room and saw her still in bed. “I’m going to take a bath, soak for a little bit.” She said as she walked in, setting down a bottle of wine on Zada’s nightstand before starting the water and filling the tub, coming back to fill a wine glass and de-dress herself. Triss took a few sips before stepping into the tub and laying down, her body transforming and she submerged herself underwater.

It wasn’t long before Zada entered the bathroom with a book and sat on the edge of the tub, the two woman just relaxing and not saying much to the other. A few times Triss would move to look over the mermaid’s shoulder and catch a few words of the book in between her turning pages, but would then just circle back and submerged back under the bath water.

Over the next few days Zada finally told Trisstana at the table during lunch what was going on with the angel, their name being Neden, and that they used to be a hunter. Triss stared blankly as Zada said that, as she had a flashback back to when she was captured. The cold concrete floor and the metal bars keeping her in, only being given a bucket of water to keep her from drying out. The betrayal was all she could think about during that time.

Trisstana snapped out of it when she heard Zada say her name a few times. “Oh
yeah. Zoned out. It was just
” She trailed off and paused with the moment of silence. Triss had never told anyone about what happened, and never planned to. It was one of the few times she was weak in her life and she never wanted to be viewed as weak. “I just have some history with some sort of hunters
” She trailed off as she put down her food and went back to the guest room and closed the door behind her.

One night when Zada was taking a bath, Triss knocked and entered, actually saying sorry about the other morning about walking away. She then set on the edge of the bathtub and told her about the time she was betrayed by her lover at the time and sold to some hunters, though not sure if it was the same people Neden was with. Triss kept her eyes on the ground as she retold the story, not letting her eyes tear up but easily showing distress in her face. She felt weak and vulnerable telling this to the mermaid, not even sure why she was, but it just felt right to tell her.

Travis sighed as Rosie walked behind him making sure he wasn’t going anywhere, and saying how he shouldn’t have come back. “I’m not going to run, I’m here for a reason Rosie.” He said as she just shoved him in the back when he tried to stop and talk. He just had to give her some time and hopefully once they got back to her place, which is where he assumed he was guiding her. The walk back felt awkward and he didn’t try to say anything else as he knew he would be told to be quiet again.

As the two of them got to Rosie’s place, she pushed him towards her basement and told him to wait a second and not to try anything as she went into a closet to grab some things. Travis knew she would probably pat him down for any weapons so he just skipped to the point, setting the few things he had with him on a table in the room. His gun he had tucked inside his jacket, his wallet and phone, the knife from his boot and the necklace he forgot he put in his pocket when he got out of his truck.

When Rosie came back, she told him to sit in the chair or she would force him. “What now Rosie? I’m here to talk, not to fight.” Travis asked, but Rosie just told him to sit down in the wooden chair and quickly tied his hands and ankles to the chair so he couldn’t get up. She then told him to open his mouth. “What?” He asked, but she quickly put a wrapped a bandanna from behind his head and his mouth to gag him. He tried talking to her but could only make out muffled noises

Zoe had seriously considered leaving, in the days that passed. In fact, she’d packed all her stuff back up, coming to terms with the fact that coming to Greythorne at all had been foolish; then Alex came by the bed and breakfast to take her to lunch. She didn’t know if he was just (finally) keeping his promise to her, or if Phoenix had talked him into it, but she decided not to ask. She didn’t really feel like she learned anything about him (sure, she learned things about him, but she didn’t feel any closer to understanding him). Zoe felt like she was getting to know Phoenix better than Alex, and honestly she was okay with that. Phoenix was so nice to her. He seemed sweet, and kind, and she had a hard time believing that he would put up with an irredeemable asshole. Learned they’d known each other basically their entire lives explained a few things.

It took a little deliberating to decide to text Jaiden, but after deciding to stay a little while longer, Zoe did. It was a little awkward at first, but new friendships often are. They talked about a lot of different things. Art, movies, music, Jaiden’s pets (Alex apparently loved her cats. Zoe wasn’t sure she believed that, at first, but then she remembered the way he spoiled Coco, and she decided that it probably made sense.). Zoe decided that she liked Jaiden pretty quickly, she figured they could be friends. Zoe knew she needed a friend if she was staying in town, and she got the impression that Jaiden needed a friend, too.

Zoe wasn’t sure why, but every week she stayed, Greythorne started feeling like more of a welcome place. People had seemed slightly wary about her, at first, but as she sought out conversations and got to know people, things got easier. Maybe people’s emotions were healing, or maybe the fact that she had family in town made it easier. Either way, she was starting to feel at home in Greythorne. Every week she considered heading home, and every week something made her stay. She was ignoring calls from her parents; she’d taken them, at first, but all they did was tell her to come home. They didn’t understand why she was still in Greythorne, or even why she’d gone in the first place. If she was being honest, she didn’t know why she stayed, either, except for the fact that Greythorne felt like an absolutely incredible place to be. The people, once you got past their (honestly understandable) wariness, were amazing. Back home, everyone was too busy competing to be the best to really care about each other. This felt more like a place to be called home, more like a community. Zoe was a little jealous that Alex got to call Greythorne home, because he definitely took it for granted.

Zoe didn’t know how long she was going to be staying in Greythone, but if she was going to be staying more long-term, she would need a more
Permanent living situation. She'd exhausted most of her savings staying in town, and she needed to decide if she was going to stay, and if so, what she was going to do. She decided to take a walk through town to see if it helped to make up her mind. She needed more shampoo, anyway. It was finally warming up (still a little cold for her likes, but she attributed that to growing up in the desert), and she figured that the flowers and trees would start to bloom, soon. She thought that she’d like to see that.

Alex hadn’t wanted to hurt Phoenix; he’d known it was a rough day, and he just needed a little space. He knew that anxiety and hurt so easily turned to anger when he was pushed, and he’d told himself that he never wanted to yell at Phoenix again. He’d felt so much guilt after their last argument, and he couldn’t stand the thought that he almost didn’t get to make things better.

But when he came home, Phoenix was in such a sorry state. The guilt set in quickly, and there was a lot that Alex wanted to say. I’m sorry I ran away. I’m not mad at you, I was just scared. I missed you. My back hurts and Jaiden’s cats tried to sleep on my face all night. But in the end he just listened to Phoenix tell him about Neden. That came as a shock, and Alex was upset with himself for not being there, if not just for Phoenix. After that, they tried to settle into their normal routine. Eventually, things settled into an almost-normal rhythm.

Alex had meant to tell Phoenix all about Eshirtia, and about the pact he’d made, but after everything that happened Alex didn’t want to add anything else to the pile of things to worry about. It was easy enough to keep under wraps, she didn’t ask much of him in those weeks, and the wound (and when it finally healed, the scar) was easy enough to hide; Alex hadn’t worn short sleeves since he was fifteen, he hardly even wore them around the house when it was cold. Eventually, he knew, Phoenix would see. He should probably show him, himself. It was ugly and crude, took up half of his forearm, and Alex knew it would never particularly fade. It, and his pact in general, just wasn’t the kind of thing he could hide forever. He wasn’t sure he wanted to keep it much of a secret, anyway. He needed to tell him, but he didn’t know how. So he didn’t. The longer he waited, the worse he knew it would be when it came out, and the more he felt like he couldn’t say anything.

Instead Alex told Phoenix all the little things he’d spent years not mentioning. He started small, with things like, “You know, I’ve always liked that shirt on you.” And built up to telling Phoenix about the way his eyes lit up when he smiled, how he really did like his hair like that, and that he’d missed him while he was gone. It had been hard, at first, to break the habits that Alex had created for himself, but once he started it sometimes felt like the words just tumbled out of his mouth unbidden

He was sleeping better, too. For the first time in years his dreams weren’t disruptive; the spirits weren’t sending him random visions of baseless death and destruction. They seemed to be filtered, easier to deal with. Phoenix was still having nightmares, though, and Alex wished he could take them. He’d dealt with them constantly for years, he could handle more of them. The only thing he could do was comfort him, and be there. Try to reassure Phoenix where he could, that everything was going to be okay. They were going to be okay.

Neden’s letter was not particularly well-received. Alex didn’t want it, he didn’t want to read it, or see it. He was angry. Hurt. He didn’t understand it. He felt betrayed and lied to. He stashed the letter in the bottom of a drawer in case he ever decided to read it, but opening it was out of the question. He wanted to stay angry for a time, to be bitter. The Branded had caused too much death, too much suffering; first Travis, and now Neden had been in their ranks. Alex felt like a rug had been pulled out from under him if even angels could want him dead. He supposed it made some sense, though, demonic as he was. What Alex couldn’t understand was how anyone could see someone like Phoenix, or Kay, or- hell- Aurora, and decide they deserved to die. Maybe that’s why hunters avoided getting to know any of them. Maybe they would kill them, anyway. Alex didn’t know which answer he preferred.

Things seemed to be going back to normal in town: it had been months since the last attack, the weather was warming up. It seemed like everything might be okay, again. Alex still couldn’t help looking over his shoulder, tensing up whenever someone bumped into him, but there was some hope.

Alex didn’t particularly care about the market, but Phoenix was excited to go, and his happiness was infectious. Alex would have gladly followed him anywhere to see him happy like that.

Things slowly went back to normal after Neden’s admission. Zada and Triss spent a lot of time together, sitting nearby when the other would soak in the tub, enjoying one another’s company. Just the simple act of existing nearby someone who understood and didn’t shrink back at the fangs and the claws was something Zada was glad for. It took a few days for Zada to really feel ready to talk about Neden with Triss, after Rosie had delivered the letter that Zada burned without opening.

Later, when Triss told Zada of her own history with hunters, Zada couldn’t help but feel the other woman’s pain. Zada had never been held captive by hunters before, but she had been held captive and mistreated by a man, so she had some sort of understanding. Zada had taken Trisstana’s hands into hers, and swore that if she had any say in it, no one would hurt her ever again. Zada felt closer to Triss, after that. Slowly, she shared more pieces of her own history. From her childhood in the Meditarranian Sea, to her time with the various men that she killed and stole from. They fostered a comforting familiarity with one another, deeper than before.

Zada’s fondness for Triss only grew as the snow melted, and while a part of her knew exactly what to call it, another part of her didn’t think she would ever feel affection blooming in her heart again. But she trusted Triss, despite how she felt she should never trust another soul, she trusted her, enjoyed her time spent with her. They bonded over glasses of wine and cups of coffee, shared stories and long baths. Zada thought that Trisstana was certainly someone special, and she was glad that she’d stayed in town. Stayed with her.

It was finally warm outside, and though the cold didn’t particularly bother Zada, she was glad because that meant that the ice was melting. The snow had been gone for a while, but the lake always thawed out last. Sure, you could swim around through the chunks of ice, but it was hardly enjoyable, especially if you were to swim with someone else. They’d been checking, periodically, on the state of the lake. Zada almost couldn’t wait to get into the water, but she hadn’t grown up swimming in icy waters, and sometimes it made her feel nervous, like she may get trapped beneath the ice, or hurt somehow. She just wasn’t used to it, yet.

They were headed to the lake; walking side-by-side, mostly quietly, though occasionally one of them would remark about something. They didn’t always talk about much when they walked, but sometimes Zada would point out the birds building nests in the trees, or how she needed to buy some more flowers for her gardener to plant, or how much shorter the walk seemed to be with company. She never realized how long it had taken before, until she had someone to pass the time with. "Hopefully," Zada mused, both to herself, and aloud to Triss, "There won't be much ice left. I would love a nice swim after being stuck in a bathtub all winter."

The days that passed by after Alex had stayed the night at Jaiden's were, long to say the very least. The moment Alex left her home, everything seemed to come crashing down around her. Jaiden was told about what the meeting that Neden hadn't wanted everyone to come to, was about. Jaiden knew there was a reason that she ignored the message and didn't go, and it was when she was told by one of the others that it all made sense why she felt that way. Neden had betrayed them all. Lied to them the entire time. Lied about who they were, nevermind what they were. Jaiden didn't care that they were an angel, or whatever they were. It was the fact that they were part of the Branded. The same group that not only attacked them twice by this time, but had killed so many they cared about, including Aurora. There was no forgiving that. Sure, Neden may have left however long ago, but Jaiden didn't care. At one point or another, they were responsible for the hunting, torturing, and slaughter of who knows how many of those that were like them.

When Jaiden received the letter that was left for her from Neden, she took it, barely read it as some was scribbled out and re-written entirely, all she saw were the words, Jai, I'm sorry, and watched as the letter quickly caught fire and burned to nothing but ash and dust in her hands. She didn't care. Didn't care if they claimed to have changed. Neden had been responsible for so many deaths and pain, and she wasn't going to forgive them for that.

The weeks that passed by after that were long and tiresome. Jaiden spent more time learning and controlling her powers and abilities, spending more time with more witches that helped her harness her powers better, learned to control her temperament, which was something that unsurprisingly helped her control her connection to fire. She too practiced with knives and swords, as well as simply her fists as she practiced with the patrols as no one was really left in charge of it as Neden left. Jaiden wasn't leader material, and she simply gave someone else the position and helped with the sidelines of things. Helping when and where she could, if she was able.

Everything seemed to finally go back to being as normal as it could as the weather began to become warmer, somewhat. The sun was out more, something that Jaiden could appreciate. She spent more time with the others when she could, occasionally checking on Phoenix and Alex, making sure they were okay. But for the most part she was by herself, or was helping Zoe around town as she was still new to the town, and didn't really know anyone. She got to know Zoe more, some of her interests and likes, what life was like in Arizona, etc. It was nice being able to connect with someone again, and it didn't hurt that they had some things in common.

Things passed by and was slowly getting better when she found herself walking around town with some of the other witches when a few familiar figures appeared before her. Spriggans. The ones that had spent a lot of time with Neden, if she recalled correctly. "What's up, fellas?" she asked with a small smile. She had nothing against them, and if anything, in the past few weeks she grew closer to the tree-folk as they seemed to be rather lonely in the few weeks since Neden left. She didn't understand what they were trying to say, but one of the other witches, who was also a pyrokinetic like her, explained that there was something she had to see. Something was left in the woods for her, but it was told to bring others with her, as she would need company as Hunters had been seen. The Spriggan didn't explain who told her, or why. Just that it was best to go and see for herself. Jaiden was on edge, but was all too curious for what was there for her to see. Four of the witches agree to go with her for safety reasons, bigger groups were safer than being on her own. The walk into the woods wasn't as long as she expected, the small group talking amongst themselves as they made their way into the woods. Walking past a few large trees, Jaiden stopped in her footsteps, as an all too familiar figure was hunched over by a tree. Clearly tied up and still unconscious. Jaiden slowly made her way over to the unconscious woman, crouching down infront of the woman, Jaiden picked her head up as she grabbed the woman by the back of the head, making sure to hold tightly.

The woman left out a soft groan as she was slowly coming to, blinking in the morning sunlight as she cursed under her breath. "The fuck do you want from me, hu-" and stopped, as she looked up at Jaiden. Those same, big brown eyes. Once were filled with fear and pain, were now filled with anger and hatred. A smile spread across the Hunter's face as she looked at Jaiden with a sickening grin, the same grin she had on her face that day of the first attack. "Well hello." she said with a tone of innocence. Jaiden rolled her eyes, trying to contain herself as she looked down at the woman. "I have so many questions for you...But not now. It can wait. But first-" Jaiden said as she made a quick strike with the side of her fist against the woman's temple, knocking her unconscious yet again. "Bring her with us. I have questions for her, but it's not safe here. Let's go." Jaiden's tone was one not many people had heard before, one of anger and even resentment. The witches made sure that the Hunter wasn't going anywhere, as one of the Spriggans appeared next to them, and helped carry the Hunter back to town with the small group of witches.

The walk back didn't take very long as they were on edge and guard, as there was obviously more Hunters to be around somewhere. Alerting everyone as they made their way deeper into the main part of town, they had to know. They needed to. Everyone needed to have a fighting chance and be ready. Jaiden almost walked into someone as she turned around, stopping just mere inches before she entirely walked into them. "Oh shit, I am so sorry-" Jaiden began to say, before seeing that it was Zoe. A smile crossed her face as she looked at her. In the few weeks that passed, the two of them had gotten rather close, and Jaiden was rather fond of her, even if she didn't want to admit it. "Oh hey, Zo." Jaiden said with a smile, and started to walk with her, but first turned back to the group she was with prior, "Take her to the town hall and keep her there. I'll meet up with you all shortly. I promise. Be safe, everyone." Jaiden turned back to Zoe, her smile faltering for a moment as she remembered that was slowly turning to shit now, "Uhm...Zoe? I would like to continue talking to you and everything but...Hunters have been seen again in the woods and, the others need to know. This...This isn't a good sign. What I'm trying to say is, we need to be careful now. You can either stay with me and the others, or be safe and hide. Okay?"

The days that passed by after Violet had last seen Neden went by slowly. She stayed by herself, and stayed at her grandmother's home, but stayed somewhere she wouldn't be seen. She just needed time to comprehend everything, and process what actually happened. It was only when it was two days later that Violet heard what happened, Neden packed up everything and left town, leaving letters for some people. Violet understood why she didn't receive one, she had been one of the last people to speak to them, or even see them before Neden left. They said everything they could have, it was enough for Violet. She didn't blame the angel for anything as she slowly processed it all. Unlike some of the others, like Phoenix and Zada, she wasn't angry anymore. She was just sad. But not for the reasons people may have thought.

Violet didn't know what it was, but whenever she was around Neden, she felt something. She didn't understand what it was, or what those feelings were, but she understood Neden. There was just something there between those two. They weren't exactly close, but as time had gone on, they were very close, and Violet felt like she could have told them anything. In fact, the day before she confronted them, she was going to ask Neden if they knew what she was. To help at least help her understand everything about her, and what she became. But seeing how everything happened, everything was ruined and just too much. It was two days after that they were going to speak and talk to Neden, about everything. Get a clearer picture about everything about them. Possibly see if she could have done more. But when she arrived at the small home in the woods, the door was locked. And no one was there. There wasn't any sign of Neden having been there in days. Which caused a pit to form in her stomach. Did Neden leave town? Because of what she started?

It was only when it was confirmed later, by Rosie that Neden was indeed gone, and left letters for some. She didn't know what was worse, the fact that Neden had left without a word, without saying goodbye to anyone that she knew of, or that it had been her fault. None of it sat well with her, and Violet made sure that she only kept to herself. She needed time to rethink things, but the more she was by herself and stayed away from everyone, she found the mark on her arm starting to turn into a burning sensation. It didn't normally feel like her arm was on fire, but the longer she stayed away, the worse it had gotten. It was only then, that she had enough. She needed to know what she was, and she only knew of one person in town that would have known, or even had a sliver of knowledge that could lead her in the right direction. It was only when she was asking around town if anyone had any knowledge of the darker things, mainly pertaining to ghosts. She spent hours and even days asking, only when she was told that Maria, an old necromancer would know better than anyone. She immediately knew what that meant, and who that was. She rolled her eyes, she didn't want to have to speak to him to know if his grandmother would know.

So Violet skipped the middle man, and found herself at the doorstep of Maria Garcia's home. She knocked on the door, and after a bit of waiting, the door opened to reveal a stern, but friendly face, that seemed to light of when she saw Violet. She was quickly let in and was offered some tea on instinct, but Abuela quickly apologized, which Violet merely chuckled at and said it was okay. The two sat down in the living room, and eventually, the old woman asked why was she really here. The room remained silent for a moment before she explained everything. First asking how extensive was her knowledge of the undead was. This only resulted in a loud laugh from the old witch, who merely shook her head before she calmed down and began to answer her question. With a bit of snark that Violet always appreciated. She explained that she knew most things, if not all, but why was she asking? Violet then went on to explain the real reason why she was there, along with the strange mark on her arm. Going into detail about everything that had happened since the first attack. The weird ghostly world where she was with Alex, and where the two got separated during the first attack, and ever since then things had been weird. With how she was now, and how she was scared. So scared. Specifically going into detail that, Violet wasn't even sure of how much time she had left, as every day that passed by, the mark on her arm only grew more painful in nature.

The old witch sadly gave Violet a look that Violet had been sadly anticipating. Abuela wasn't entirely sure about everything, all that she knew, was that Violet was considered to be a Revenant. Which was someone that had passed on, and by different various ways, came back as something else. Something, less than human, but not entirely undead. But made sure to give Violet a warning, that whatever happened for this to happen to her, wasn't good and if anything it was a bad omen. She was given some old books that may have had some more information on what she may have been, or possibly any connections she could make of her own if she really was curious. Violet thanked her, and after a short few more words Violet left with more questions than she originally had, but may have had some answers due to the books she obtained from Abuela.

Violet wasn't sure how many days had gone by, or how much time she spent going over the books, but all she knew was that she had been at the town's library for far too long. She had gone through all of the books by this time, and had spent countless hours writing down notes and looking at other books that had anything to do with Revenants or the undead. She had learned a few things that she didn't know, or was even told about by the one she made the deal with in the first place. When she thought back on about it, she hadn't seen him in weeks, nevermind even felt something that made her go back and talk to him. For the first time in months, she felt relieved. Maybe the deal had been broken off on his end? But that wouldn't have explained anything. As some of the things she learned was, if a Necromancer makes a deal with an unfortunate soul, then whoever was under their contract would either revert back to how they were before, or cease to exist entirely. Neither of those were the case. But she too learned something else, something that had taken far longer to read about. It was very vague, and even to a point, forbidden. As it was considered too dangerous to even pull off, nevermind even consider. But, there was a possible way for one to break the deal, via soul transference with a vulnerable and unsuspecting host. But it was far too risky of something to even attempt, nevermind something Violet would ever consider.

With no real leads, or anything as helpful as she would have liked. She returned the books back to Abuela. Thanking her for the help, as some of it was helpful, but most of it was pointless ramblings. The next few weeks that passed by, Violet spent with some of the others, trying to help the town go back to how it was. But things never sat right. Even as the weather began to become warmer and the sun was starting to come out from the clouds more, things didn't feel right with her. Like something foreboding was hanging over this town, and Violet didn't like it. But as she aimlessly walked around the town, she saw a small forming group of people begin to crowd around a figure dressed in black, with plenty of weapons on their person. She didn't know who this figure was, but if she wanted to make sure that nothing bad happened, or any misunderstandings were avoided, she found herself quickly jogging over to the group to investigate what was going on.

The morning air was crisp and cold as the wind blew passed the trees and into the town of Greythorne. The sun had risen and was castly a golden glow over the town through the trees as wild life began to chirp and whistle amongst the woods. Everything was as peaceful as ever in the past few weeks. Nothing seemed a miss. Not until there was the sound of a twig snapping, and what followed was a rubble of foot steps as multiple figures darted through the woods, making their way towards the town. Animals ducked back into their holes in the earth, or their nests in the trees as the Hunters encroached the end of the treeline to the tiny town. "Fucking freaks." one of them muttered as they hid along the backside of an old and fallen log.

"You know the drill, we get in there...And we light them up with everything we got. We've been too nice in the past." said a female voice, who was clearly the leader amongst the small group of Hunters. Two of her men gave all too large of smiles as they seemed all too giddy. All fell silent as they waited for their mark to reak havoc on the town, and without any warning, one of the Hunters was torn away from the others and pulled up into the treeline. Disappearing from sight. The remaining Hunters withdrew their weapons, backs against each other as they continued to circle around, looking for whoever had made a move against them. "I thought we took care of that one-" one of the Hunters began to speak, but was silenced as the woman raised her hand. The woods fell silent again as they waited for a sign of anything to attack or give chase to. Before they had any warning, one of the Hunters reached for their shoulder as they felt something land on it from above. Feeling it to be something warm, liquidy, and fresh. The Hunter looked down at their hand to see a dark, maroon-colored liquid was coated over their fingers, slowly looking up as he let out a gasp. The sudden action caused the two other Hunters to turn and look upwards, into the trees, both gasped, covering their mouths as nausea overtook them. Up in the trees, was a form hanging upside down with a freshly slit throat as blood emptied out of the gaping wound. Whatever had done that to the Hunter had been swift and it one motion, as the wound wasn't from a claw or even possibly an accident.

With two of the Hunters distracted, one of the Hunters fell to the ground, going lifeless as two arrows found themselves lodged into the Hunter's body. One in the head, and the other square in the chest. "What the fuck is going on?" one of the Hunter's called out, clearly frightened. One of the older ones looked at the Hunter that yelled, grabbing him by the throat, "Don't wimp on us now, Matthew. Or so help me, I will feed you to those freaks myse-" the older Hunter was cut off, as a throwing knife had found itself lodged into the back of his throat, spirting blood out of his mouth as the Hunter fell to the ground in a puddle of his own blood. Three Hunters down, two to go.

The female Hunter grabbed the younger one, who's name was apparently Matthew and pulled him to his feet. "Looks like it's just me and you kid. Now let's go." she said as she turned, grabbing their weapons as they began to run. The two Hunters didn't look back as the sound of running footsteps was slowly closing in on them. The Hunters stopped in their footsteps as a large, cloaked figure landed in front of them with impossible speed. The dirt and leaves around their feet scattered away from the figure's feet due to the sheer force behind their landing. "What do you want from us, huh? We're just trying to get back home." the woman attempted to a plea, trying to gain a sense of sympathy from the unknown figure. From which, the figure only let out a low chuckle as they slowly rose to their feet, unsheathing two large Seraph Blades from the placement on their back. Dark green eyes peered out from under the black hood as the figure stared down the Hunters. An emotionless face stared back at them. "This...This isn't your home." the figure said softly. The female Hunter let out a chuckle, silently unsheathing a knife from her cloak as she continued to stare down the figure, "But it soon will be-" she managed to say, before the figure lunged forwards, tackling the female Hunter down to the ground, and onto her back, getting in two good punches, before looking up to see the younger Hunter begin to make a run for it through the woods.

The cloaked figure reached into their cloak, quickly retrieving something from their pocket, and with ease and precision, tossed what looked like metal wire that wrapped itself around the Hunter's legs. Causing him to fall to the ground. As the figure began to make its way back to the female Hunter, another Hunter who was hidden from behind a tree went for a surprise slash with their own knife. But as the Hunter did so, a twig snapped, causing the cloaked figure to twirl around and with immense strength caused one of the Seraph blades to pierce their abdomen all the way through, bringing the Hunter all the way to the hilt of the blade, before removing the weapon from the Hunter's body and watched as it collapsed to the ground. Unmoving.

Slowly turning, the cloaked figure looked back at the female Hunter who began to speak up again, "We're going to burn down your town, freak and when we do-" she began, but the figure only picked her up with ease, using one of their hands to reveal a large burn scar that ran along the Hunter's forearm. "You're coming with me." the figure said, and quickly brought both of their heads together, knocking the woman Hunter unconscious. Dropping the body to the ground, the figure slowly made their way to the young Hunter, who looked on in fear at them. Kneeling down, they retrieved a small pocket knife, "Matthew, was it? Do one thing for me? Get the fuck out of here, go back to your leaders, and tell them that they fucked up this time. And that, is a very deadly and stupid thing to do." the figure finished, and with a quick flash, the wire was cut from around the Hunter's legs, and watched as he ran like his life depended on it as he ran out of sight.

A small exasperated sigh escaped the figure lips as they turned back around to see the female Hunter was still unconscious on the ground. Making their way back over, a small groan escaped their lips as they picked up the woman and walked over to a large tree, placing her down and quickly tied her hands behind her back, keeping her kept snuggly against it. This Hunter wasn't going anywhere anytime soon. Slowly rising to their feet, the hooded figure touched their side, a small gasp of pain escaped their lips. They didn't have time for this. Turning, they made their way towards the small town that stood just outside of the woods.

A few figures rushed out and looked at the cloaked figure that slowly walked through the streets. One wearily stepped forward, a Spriggan by the name of Percy stopped the cloaked figure with a hand to their chest. Urging them to turn back, they weren't welcomed. Slowly, the figure removed the hood. Revealing dark hair that was held closely and neatly to the back of the person's head by a short ponytail, pale skin and dark green eyes greeted the Spriggan with a friendly, but rather annoying smile that they had seen many times before. "It's not safe, the woods aren't anyway. I took out some of them in the woods. One got away, and there's one more. She's tied up to a tree, will be out for another hour or so. Let Jaiden know she has a gift in the woods, she's going to need company." the individual said, two of the spriggans Spriggans quickly took off in the direction of where Jaiden was last seen, knowing full well that someone else needed to know that they were back in town.

A familiar face was in the group, looking at the figure, "I thought you were gone forever...The others, they need to know you're back. Percy, tell Rosie and the others." she looked up at the figure with a smile, "It's good to see you back here, Neden...I uh...I am so-" the angel gave her a small smile and embraced her in a tight hug before Violet could finish her sentence, "It's good to see you too, Vio...But now isn't the time. I don't know how much time we all have but, Greythorne isn't safe." Neden said with a tone of exasperation as they backed away, before holding their side as they did so. The shorter woman gave a nod as their eyes locked onto each other, a small smile appeared across both of their faces, but soon disappeared as Neden began to hobble along. "We need to go...Now. This can wait, warning others can't. We need to find the others, and let them know before it's too late." Neden made mention to the wound at their side, their tone was urgent and serious, a tone that didn't come from them very often. Something had changed about Neden in the past few weeks since they had left, and Neden hadn't planned on talking about it, not now. Important matters lied ahead, and they weren't going to make the same mistake again. Violet gave Neden a small nod and quickly ran off in the opposite direction, she needed to warn others so they had some possibility of a fighting chance against the Hunters. Warning whoever she could as she ran through the town.

What people hadn't known, was that Neden had been back in town for two days prior to now. They made sure to keep an all too low profile, only come out when they really needed to. They weren't sure how people would be of their reappearance back in town. The only people that had seen Neden since they came back were Kaylessa and Hayden. One of which, was ironically the last person Neden had seen before they left all those weeks ago. Their conversation was short and to the point. Asking if Neden was still the same, and if it was true that they had been a Hunter. Neden confirmed it, but ensured that they weren't that way anymore. Part of Neden was happy that Kaylessa had forgiven them, but another part of them still hadn't sat right with them. Neden had hurt people like everyone here, even killed and tortured some for the 'better of humanity'. It was a lie, brainwashed to believe that they were the worst the world had to offer. While, if anything, it was humans. But now, Neden was back and this time they were going to make sure they did what they could, but first, they needed to find the others, and warn them before it was too late.

With a small hobble as they held their side, they would need to tend the wound when they actually had the time. Which, wasn't now, they made their way through the town's streets. Not much had changed in Greythorne in the amount of time that they had been gone, which was roughly over a month or two, things were still the same. Still the same, peaceful town it had ever been. Something they appreciated. The walk back to the small house that was once their home ever since Markus-They brushed the thought out of their mind, was a rather quick walk. Slowly they stepped through the trees and bushes, stopping as they saw two figures approach the small home. Neden peered through the brush, trying to see who it was. A small sigh escaped their lips as they only saw that it was Hayden and Kaylessa. A small smile creased their lips as they slowly walked out from the cover of the brush that was previously hiding them. "Hayden? Kay? What're you doing here? It's not safe to be here." Neden spoke with a hushed voice. "I've already taken care of a few Hunters in the other end of the woods...I may have been patrolling the woods out of habit and came across a few. I don't know how many there are but...I have a feeling this isn't just a small scouting party." the angel looked around before walking closer to the two, handing Hayden a rather large dagger, with the same strange runes that covered their own blades that were strapped to their back, next to their bow.

The blade was oddly light compared to its appearance, which one may think was heavy and sluggish. "I am going to want that back by the way, elf boy. But for now, I hope you know how to use one. Let's get going, we're already behind on time." Neden said as they motioned to Hayden and Kaylessa to follow them, "So what's the update?" the angel asked as the three began to make their way back into town

After sharing one of her secrets, Triss and Zada felt closer to each other, a feeling Trisstana wasn’t exactly familiar with. Even when she was part of her old coterie when she first became a Nixie, she never felt close to them, but with the mermaid she felt something different. The mermaid started telling Triss some of her own stories, and laughing a bit at the tales of her stealing from men. Trisstana wasn’t one to use herself to get much from men besides their bodies and souls, so she found it humorous about using them for their possessions.

Triss would check outside daily as the snow melted and the weather warmed up. Traveling often meant numerous types of weather conditions so she was used to it, but most of the time the moving waters of a river wouldn’t freeze over like a lake would, so she’s never really had to wait for water. Luckily Zada helped her with their baths they would take, often together.

Bathing together, Triss was interested in the mermaid's body compared to her own. Though they were both aquatic creatures, she was surprised by the mermaid's gills placement being under her chin, rather than on her ribs like hers, which in her opinion was better because of closer proximity to her lungs. Also she was intrigued by the mermaids webbed fingers, tracing her own fingers across them occasionally. Another big difference was that while Zada had sharp teeth like hers, she didn’t seem to have any sort of claws, which Triss loved her claws.

One day after Triss fell asleep in Zada’s bed, she slowly woke up to Zada looking out the window and saying something about it being warmer outside and the possibility of the lake being unfrozen, this peaking her interest. She stretched as she stood up and headed to the guest room to change and get ready to head out. Though while Triss was laying down Zada had already gotten ready so she had to wait on Triss a bit, but it wasn’t long until the two were outside walking to the lake.

“That’s what is nice about rivers. The rushing waters don’t freeze as easily as a still lake.” Trisstana said in response to Zada bringing up being restricted to the bathtub. The walk was peaceful towards the lake, Triss’ eyes didn't wander much, mostly sticking ahead of her or watching Zada as she spoke about the surroundings. When the two finally got to the lake, a genuine smile came across Triss' face as the lake was indeed thawed and not frozen solid anymore.

As Triss was setting her things down Zada caught her attention and she watched her get undressed. She had seen the mermaid do so many times to get into the bath, but something about the light shining on her seemed differently, and made her feel different as well. Triss heard the mermaid say words, but honestly didn’t hear what she said. “I
I want to watch.” The words slowly came out of her mouth. “I’ve seen you change form in the tub before, but not in the sunlight.” She continued, as she finished taking off her clothes and walking to the edge of the lake, but just staring at Zada, watching.

It was easier to show hostility to Travis than it was to listen. She refused to even endorse it for a minute. He was still a traitor, no matter what. On the walk back to her house, she was still trying to figure out what the hell to do with him. There would be one easy solution. She knew that much. But she also knew she wouldn’t be able to do it, she couldn’t even consider it. And that would be a risk. But she also couldn’t risk him somehow signaling to someone else and drawing others to her location.

So when she got him back to the house, she made a quick signal to some of the spriggans and dryads around her house. Guard. If Travis tried anything, they’d intervene. So she felt comfortable enough leaving him alone for a few minutes to go grab a few things. She was surprised to see that he’d emptied his pockets when she got back, but still quickly searched him before telling him to sit his ass down.

She wasn’t sure if this was the right thing to do, but tying him up, away from anyone else, and stopping him from making contact at least gave her time to think. God, it was times like this she needed Neden or Markus. But they weren’t here, and she needed to think for herself. She gagged him to make sure he couldn’t call for help. And then she left him there, leaving the house and walking in to town to get her head straight.

Hayden jumped a little as someone emerged from a bush near Neden’s home, breathing a sigh of relief as he realised it was only Neden. They started talking about there being hunters in the woods, and about it not being safe. Hayden shot a look at Kay, wondering if they should just go home and hide and forget about Travis. But no, this seemed important to her, and so he had to do something. He raised an eyebrow as the angel handed him a knife. It was light and fitted easily in his hand. If they had a fight coming, then it would be useful to be able to draw blood.

Neden didn’t seem to want to stop to listen to them, so Hayden just followed them as best he could. “Travis is back in town. And
he specifically requested to talk to you. Rosie got to him first so I have no idea what she’s going to do
” he trailed off as he finally identified the odd tugging sensation in his chest. “Neden, you’re hurt. Let me heal you, if we’ve got a fight coming you can’t risk making it worse,” he said, holding out his hands towards the angel.

For months now, Greythorne had been an escape from his old life. But in a time like this, they needed leaders, and a leader was what he had been trained to be. Someone that people could trust and that could defend their people, and that was what he intended to do.

Kaylessa followed behind Hayden as they went towards Markus’ place where Neden had been staying lately, hoping she would be in so they could tell the angel about Travis. She was stood behind Hayden as he knocked and waited, but within moments Kay saw Neden come out of the bushes off to the side and come up to them, quickly warning them about hunters. “Hunters?” She questioned, but Neden was quickly off, handing a sort of a dagger to Hayden and walking away, talking to them as Kay skipped for a second to catch up.

Hayden quickly told Neden what was going on, telling them about Travis and how Rosie quickly took him off somewhere, but saying he wasn’t sure what Rosie would do. Though Kay noticed him get distracted before speaking up and noticing Neden was hurt. Kay was about to offer to heal them, but forgot Hayden was also a healer. She had never seen him use his powers in person since nothing bad has happened since he arrived in town, but watched silently he healed Neden.

“Okay, but we need to help Travis. Neden please. He’s sorry for what he’s done, like how you are sorry about what you did before. He wouldn’t come back for no reason. I
I just have a feeling.” Kaylessa quickly spurted once Neden was healed. She wasn’t one to pressure people to do something, but she was taking Travis' request to heart. After blinking a few times at Neden, the angel agreed. “Maybe Rosie took him back to her place? I don’t know exactly.” She mumbled. Neden patted Kaylessa on the head and told her she would take care of it, but they need to be careful and be safe. Kay nodded as she looked over at Hayden and the two of them walked away, Kay giving Neden one last smile before leaving.

Neden listened as the three of them continued to walk, barely stopping when Hayden began to explain what had happened earlier. Travis was apparently back and had asked for them specifically, which had caused them to stop walking and simply look at Hayden as he spoke. Neden gave him a small nod when he explained that Rosie had been there just moments before and took Travis somewhere, he didn’t know where exactly. Neden figured she probably took him back to her home, which wouldn’t surprise them. The angel was ready to start walking once more when Hayden stopped them once more, noticing that they had been in fact injured earlier, something that almost went unnoticed. “Hayden, it’s fine I-” the angel began to speak, but paused for a moment as they thought. Giving a small sigh and nod, they allowed Hayden to heal the wound on their left side, rolling up their shirt partially. There was a large gash wound that was rather deep, halfway in their abdomen that had some sort of burn or rash, clearly from the effects of silver being on the Hunter’s weapons.

The healing process hadn’t taken anymore than a few minutes, Neden looked off to the distance as they needed to distract themselves from the pain. After the wound had been healed as well as it was going to be, Neden gave Hayden a small smile and nod. Rolling their shirt back down, Neden looked up as Kaylessa began to speak. Saying how they had to help Travis, and that he was sorry for what he did, much like how Neden was. And how he had to have come here for a reason, that she felt something wasn’t entirely right. At first, Neden gave a small sigh and shook their head, they didn’t have time for this. They all needed to get back into town and help the others, but as they looked at Kay, Neden couldn’t help but feel guilty if they didn’t go back and help him. “Fine. But you two need to get out of here. Go back into town. I’ll be there shortly when I can.” the angel finally said after giving it another moment to process what they had agreed to.

Giving Kay a small pat on the head and another small smile before they turned and left. Taking note that Rosie must have brought Travis back to her home. Neden figured it was the best place to check first. Considering they didn’t want to waste much time, Neden took off in the direction of Rosie’s home in the woods, using their powers to help give them a little bit more of an edge to get there. Neden slowed down as the home came into view, and slowly walked up, making sure to be on guard incase any of the Hunters had already made it here. As Neden walked closer, there were a few figures that stood out amongst the rest of the otherwise empty property. Figures that Neden recognized. Spriggans and dryads were left to guard the home. It made sense. If Hunters were to try an attack, or if Travis tried to escape, he wouldn’t get far.

Neden slowly walked towards the home, making sure to give the tree-folk a small smile. They were stopped as one of the spriggans stepped forwards, placing what would be a hand on their chest, stopping them from getting any closer to the home. “I just want to talk to Travis. Okay?” the angel said as they looked up at the Spriggan. The spriggans and dryads only looked at each other in silence, before looking back at Neden. Shaking their heads no. They weren’t allowed to let anyone in, or out of the home. Neden sighed, rolling their eyes slightly. They really didn’t have time for this. Looking up at the tree-folk that stood infront of the door, “Look. Hunters have already been spotted in the south side of town, and I really am not having any of it. You let me inside and talk to Travis for not even...Ten minutes, and I will be out of your
.Hair faster than you know?” the angel tried to bargain with the tree spirits, who only looked at each other in silence, before looking back at Neden again, shaking their heads once more.

Neden sighed once more, stepping closer towards the tree-creature. “How about this. You let me inside for five minutes, and I make those little flower crowns and snacks that you like so much after all of this shit is over with. Deal?” the angel said as they crossed their arms, with a small grin on their face. The spriggans cracked a smile, and nodded slightly. Opening the door for the angel, closing it behind them as they entered. The main floor was entirely empty and silent, looking around for a moment, without touching anything, Neden noticed the basement door. Taking a deep breath, they unlocked and opened the door and headed down the stairs. Turning the corner as they reached the basement they noticed someone tied to a chair. Giving him a small smirk as they slowly walked over to him. “Hello, Travis.” Neden said simply to the Hunter, arms crossed over their chest. “You look a little...Tied up.”

Travis could only watch as Rosie went back upstairs and closed the door behind her, hearing her flip the lock on the door at the top of the stairs. He wasn’t sure what she was doing, or where she was going, and honestly expected her to come back down stairs soon and begin yelling at him. But as Travis waited a couple minutes it quickly became obvious that she wasn’t coming back down. He tried yelling out, but the only sound that came out was just muffled noises due to the gag that Rosie had tied around his head. He wiggled his hands and feet a bit, but the knots the siren had tied were tight and wouldn’t be easy to get out of.

As time went by Travis started getting antsy, not liking the time he was wasting being tied up in Rosie’s basement. He looked around to see if there was anything he could easily get to to help cut himself loose, but Rosie had moved his stuff. While there was a bunch of stuff she kept down here for storage, nothing that would help Trav out in his current predicament. Though as he scanned the room he did spot a rusty nail on the ground a few feet away from him, and if he able to get it, he could possibly use it to cut himself loose.

But as Travis began to maneuver the chair over to the nail, but leaned to the side too much caused him and the chair to tip over, hitting the ground hard since he wasn’t able to catch himself, though luckily the nail was a couple inches from him and was able to grab it. Though the sound of the basement door unlocking caught his attention. He quickly looked over to the stairs expecting Rosie to be walking down, but was surprised to see a taller figure, one he hadn’t expected but was actually glad to see. Neden. Though the being did have a different look about themselves, mostly their hair, but the way the aura they put off was different. Neden quickly greeted Travis and made a small joke about being tied up. Travis just rolled his eyes and said some things, but his words were once again muffled.

Neden smirked slightly as Travis obviously tried to talk, but whatever he said only came out as muffled gibberish due to the makeshift gag Rosie had used on him. Neden pulled the bandana down enough to let Travis talk, “Better?” the angel questioned.
Travis watched as Neden came closer and pulled the gag down so he could actually talk.

“Yes, it actually is.” Travis said as he spit out a little. “Actually the person I needed to see. Greythorne isn’t safe anymore. The Branded have been keeping tabs on all of you, they're going to attack again. Today.” He continued staring up at Neden. “I’m more help out there than tied up to this damn chair. I know them, I know who they're going to attack, I know their weaknesses. I am a resource to you.” He practically pleaded to them.

Neden gave him a short nod as he thanked them for at least letting him be able to talk, taking a few steps away from him as he spoke. Saying how Neden was who he wanted to see and speak to, as well as an attack was coming. Something they had already figured, but weren’t entirely sure on. Nodding as Travis continued to go on about knowing who they were going to attack, how they knew everyone’s weaknesses, and how he was a resource. Turning back to Travis, Neden’s eyebrow was raised for a moment as they were in thought. “I figured as much. I’ve already seen a few of your friends in the woods-”

“First off, they aren’t my friends. If anything they’ve noticed I’ve gone MIA and probably have me marked as kill on sight as a traitor. And second off, then you know what I’m on about Neden. Untie me and let me out there, at least we can get the jump on them before they attack.” Travis interrupted Neden as they spoke, feeling a little bad, but this was urgent.

Neden snapped their head over to look as Travis interrupted, saying they weren’t his friends, as well as how he was probably marked as a traitor and was one of their targets as well. The angel remained silent for a moment they thought for a moment, getting a small idea in their head. Neden leaned in close enough to Travis as they scanned over his face, before turning around for a moment. “Let you go? After everything that you did? You wormed your way into Greythorne, and fed The Branded information, all while pretending to be everyone’s friend. Why do you think I’d let you go?” Neden asked, an eyebrow arched for a moment as they looked over his face again before looking over the room for a moment, and then looking back at him. Both hands were neatly clasped behind Neden’s back as the angel looked at Travis.

As Neden got close to his face Travis didn’t flinch or show any sort of dismay and watched as they turned around and began talking, bringing up things he did while living in Greythorne. He turned away as Neden started to list them off, fidgeting with the rusty nail under his right palm, slowly making some progress through the rope, though occasionally stabbing himself. All the things he regretted he did, wished he didn’t do, and would go back and change if he could. There was a moment of silence as they finished speaking to him. “Not let me go. Let me help. I know what I did, I don’t need you to read me my sins. Things I regret. I don’t care if I die out there Neden!” He practically yelled, lunging in the chair he was still tied to. “I’d rather die out there fighting and trying to help this town, then die wishing I did something better. I’ve caused enough suffering and misery.” Travis leaned back in his chair letting out a deep sigh. “Now either untie me and let me help you, or just kill me. I don’t have time to just sit here doing nothing while our enemy gets ready to strike” Trav said, staring them down.

Neden listened as he said that he didn’t want to be let go, but be allowed to help. As well as how he didn’t need them out of all people telling him what he did wrong. Causing them to read him over once more as he continued talking. Neden didn’t get the feeling that he was trying to lie his way through this, or that he was bullshitting them in any way. Everything he said was true. Neden could feel the guilt and hurt radiate off of him with no resistance. For once, Travis wasn't impossible to figure out, which Neden noted as odd. Maybe he was being sincere in all of this. They looked him over as he continued, saying how he didn’t want to just sit here and die as The Branded came for them and slaughtered everyone. Neden sighed as they looked at Travis, biting their lip as they were in thought for a minute.

Neden pulled over another chair from the side, and took a seat. Looking at him for a moment in silence. They did have a common enemy, all too common. Whether Travis knew that, somehow figured out who they were, whether way before any of this, or when he left months ago. Neden wasn’t sure. Neden looking back up at Travis, “You’re right about one thing, Travis. We do have an enemy in common. But letting you out there, when the entire town already wants you dead, isn’t the way to go about things.” The angel said with a sigh as they looked down. “Trust me, they all want me dead just as much as you at this point. You’re not the only one that has done unforgivable things that we wish we could take back. But letting you go out those doors, armed or not is something I couldn’t live with.”” Neden said as they stood up from the chair, pushing it out of the way.

Silence filled the room for a moment before they looked back at Travis. “Hunter, right? Been in the Branded for a while, no? Did they ever tell you about Ronan?” Neden asked after a moment, looking back up with a look in their eyes that Travis had never seen. It was oddly calm, yet serious and yet, concerned and curious in nature.

Trav just stared through Neden as they grabbed a chair and sat infront of him as he slowed down moving the nail under his hand, with them being this close they would more than likely notice it so he had to stop for the moment. He sighed as they began to talk, about how he was right. Of course he was, he wouldn’t be here if he wasn’t, but they did have a point about the town wanting him dead. Travis rolled his eyes as they went on about wanting them dead as much as him, and about how they’ve done unforgivable things.

Though when Neden brought up a name, they caught Trav’s attention. “Ronan? One of the more decorated squad leads, but ran out on the Branded, labeled a traitor. Made an example of.” He paused for a second, looking at Neden, letting out a bit of a chuckle. “Seems like a good example right now
” He trailed off, before pausing and looking back at Neden, leaning forward, and using this as a moment to continue trying to break through the rope. “How do you know that name? They haven’t been active in years, before I joined up after my enlistment.” Travis asked, looking at Neden. He noticed a smile peek from their lips as he leaned back, taking a moment to think to himself as Neden didn’t answer. Thinking back to what he was told, and warned, about Ronan. A traitor, hunted down and killed for betraying the Branded and taking many lives with them. And then it clicked, and it made sense. Neden had always been the one to plan the patrols just right, and when they captured the scout, they didn’t want to interrogate him. Travis leaned forward again. “How? You
you were out numbered in North Dakota, 12 to 1, killed.”

Neden sat in silence as Travis began to talk, confirming he had heard the name before, which was a good start. And blinked as he continued on to confirm even more, even to the point of being hunted down after betraying them. But he didn’t know the truth. Not why they left The Branded, or why they were hunted down. He didn’t know any of it, and didn’t expect him to know. Why would they tell anyone the truth of what happened?

Turning to look at Travis, they could see the gears starting to turn in his head, piecing things together. Everything was slowly starting to make sense to Travis, which resulted in the shadow of a smile on their face. In silence Neden leaned back in the chair for a moment before getting back to their feet. “Sometimes pretending to be dead is the best thing you can do
” Neden said softly, finally breaking the silence. Neden looked around the room, and then back at Travis. ”The part they never tell is why. I saw what I was doing for what it really was, Travis. They made me believe they were monsters. Animalistic beings with no thoughts and feelings. Just like they made us all believe. I realized the truth and left. But not before they found out what I was. They hunted me down because they realized that one, I knew more about them than they liked, and two, they found I wasn’t human.”” Neden spoke softly as two large black wings slowly unravelled from behind them, looking Travis dead in the eyes as they continued to speak. ”So, naturally. What did they do, except for what they do best? They proceeded to hunt me down for years, until I decided to fake my death.” the angel slowly walked over to Travis, “It’s why you always confirm the kill.”” leaning in closely to Travis, Neden looked him in the eyes.

”Next time, don’t make it so obvious.”” Neden said as they walked behind him, kicking the back part of the chair so he was pushed forwards onto the floor. ”So get the fuck up, and let’s go. We already wasted enough time as is. You’re either in, or I’ll just let the Spriggans break you in half. Your choice.”” Neden said as they unsheathed another one of their daggers, handing it to him. ”So, are you a Hunter, or are you one of us?”

He just stared as Neden talked about their time with the Branded and faking their death. But as they stepped back and revealed their wings, Travis was in shock. Angel. He wouldn’t have ever guessed that was what Neden was. He never knew what type of supernatural being they were, but an angel makes sense. He waited as they circled around behind him, but was surprised when they kicked the chair forwards and he fell. Luckily the rope Travis was working on cutting broke so he was able to not just fall on his face. He slowly stood up and dusted himself off as the angel held out a dagger, asking if he was with them or a hunter. He just smiled as he took the dagger. “Let’s go, but you said something about spriggans?”

Neden looked at Travis as he asked about the Spriggans, giving a nod, “Rosie had some standing guard. But, They’re mostly harmless. Unless you piss them off. Which, you already have so. Best to just follow and keep your mouth shut, got it?” Neden warned, before turning around and began to make their way out of the house with Travis shortly behind them.

Zada supposed Triss was right; not as many rivers froze over in the winter. Zada wasn’t sure she could handle a river. She was sure they were lovely enough, but she much prefered big, open spaces. Even the lake seemed claustrophobic, sometimes, in comparison to the expanse of the ocean. She was just glad she could survive in freshwater; the ocean is too dangerous a place to venture out on your own. Too much could go wrong, and too quickly. She didn’t think about it as much as she used to, though. She felt more at peace, now. She very likely was never going to return to the sea, and that felt okay, now.

Zada was genuinely thrilled by the sighed of the lake: it was thawed, and there were probably chunks of ice floating throughout, but she hardly cared. She would be able to swim more freely, more comfortably. She could hardly wait. She stole a glance towards Triss, her own face softening at the smile on the other woman’s face. After a long winter, this was the best moment Zada could imagine. To get to stretch out her fin, and really swim. Zada didn’t waste any time getting undress, and she may have neglected to fold and stow away her clothes as carefully as she usually would. She felt carefree, being there with Trisstana. The world just felt right in that moment; Zada had the person who had very quickly come to feel like her closest companion, and they were finally going to get to swim together. In that moment, hardly anything could have felt more intimate, even the baths they had taken together. Zada started towards the water, but quickly realized that Triss wasn’t following. When she turned to Triss, something about her seemed different. Zada couldn’t explain it, but the look on her face was one she hadn’t seen before. “Are you coming?” Zada asked, her voice sounding more amused than anything.

When Triss said she wanted to watch, Zada just raised an eyebrow. What was that supposed to mean? Trisstana quickly explained, though, and somehow Zada just understood. That made perfect sense, and she didn’t mind it at all. She started back towards the water, stepping past the sandy shores of the lake and into the water. It was still cold, and she much preferred warm water, but it still didn’t bother her much. Zada was just happy to be getting in the water at all.

She quickly moved deeper into the water, until she began to float freely. The transformation was fairly effortless now, but she remembered how it had hurt the first time she traded her fin for her legs. Maybe she was just used to it, from changing forms so frequently over the years. Either way, when she finished her transformation, she truly felt like herself. She dove down into the water, then, happy to be submerged once again. She smiled as Triss dove into the water to join her; this felt perfect.

They swam together for a while: Zada showed off how quickly she could swim, showed Triss where the most fish tended to congregate, just generally enjoyed her company. Zada had forgotten how much she enjoyed swimming with someone else, but it brought more than a little joy to her heart. It made her feel less alone.

As they swam, Zada thought she saw something through the surface of the water. A part of her wanted to ignore it, but she knew that no one came to the lake. A familiar warning from her childhood rang in her mind as murky shapes started to come together in her mind. No, that couldn’t be. Triss was right in the way. Did she see? No, she didn’t.

Before Zada really knew what she was doing, she was rushing ahead, tangling herself in the net before it had the chance to ensnare Trisstana. Fear flooded her eyes as she fought against the ropes, and couldn’t manage to break them. This wasn’t like the nets she’d been warned about in her childhood. She shot a look at Triss, silently pleading. She didn’t know what she wanted. Help, for Triss to hide? Zada hadn’t felt this afraid in a long time: she didn’t want things to end this way.

i know the world's a broken bonexxx outfit | #c4a7be xxx but melt your headaches, call it home

The local grocery store was good, but it didn’t compare to the market. The fact that it only ran two days a week was a constant shame to Phoenix. Everything he used in the cafe came direct from most of these suppliers anyway, but that didn’t beat the feeling of being able to pick things yourself and haggle for them. He needed to try and shake up the menu for the warmer weather anyway, which meant he wanted to stock up on fresh ingredients. Which meant that he spent a significant amount of money buying every single fruit his usual supplier had.

In return for Alex's patience- and god, he’d really had a lot of it over the past few weeks- Phoenix bought extra strawberries and gave them to him as they searched over the more miscellaneous stands, the ones that had odd little trinkets. To Phoenix, a lot of the stuff looked like junk, but Alex liked it. And when the weather was this wonderful and the town this alive, everywhere just felt a little better, a little nicer. It was easy to spend time out and about here. With everyone around, with the friendly chatter and laughter of the market, things were starting to feel safe now.

All that was shattered at the first scream. They all knew what that sound meant now, especially as it was joined by another, and another. The first body hit the ground. They had never attacked during the day before. Things had been so quiet for so long, people had gotten complacent. And that meant that nobody was on their guard.

This all felt a little too familiar to Phoenix. Except now, Alex was beside him, his hand already clutched in Phoenix’s. The panic and the fear was almost suffocating, rooting Phoenix’s feet to the ground as his side and his shoulder began to burn, almost simultaneously again. He knew he needed to run, that they needed to get away as quickly as possible, but he couldn’t move. He couldn’t even seem to formulate a coherent thought other than no, this can’t be happening again, this can’t be happening, I can’t do this, I can’t lose him, I’m scared, I don’t want to die-

And then he snapped out of it. Freezing up was what had made everything go wrong in the first attack, and he refused to let that happen again. Things were only starting to fall into place again and he wasn’t giving up on that. Alex had spent so long trying to build Phoenix up again and Phoenix refused to let him down by freezing up. He refused to let any piece of shit hunters ruin the first good relationship he’d had in years. They'd ruined his life enough, and he'd be damned if he let them ruin it any more.

He tightened his grip on Alex’s hand and pulled him in the direction of home. He wasn’t a fighter, neither of them were. And he was stubborn, not an idiot, so he wasn’t going to waste his time fighting if he didn't have to. And he wasn't planning on giving Alex much of a chance to object either.

Rosie was about halfway in to town when she heard the screaming. The attack had already started. Swearing silently under her breath, she broke into a run, emerging into chaos in the town. She scanned the scene in front of her trying to figure out where to start, what needed to be done first. Familiar faces were beginning to put up a fight, the ones who had defended the town before. A hunter appeared behind Rosie, but she swung around just in time, ducking under his swinging knife and tackling him to the ground. He rolled and tried to pin her, but she just shot him a sharp-toothed grin. "What the fuck-" The hunter started, and his momentary shock gave Rosie a chance to wriggle some freedom. "Listen to me-" She ordered, the command laced with siren song. He froze, his attention entirely on her. "Tell me where you're targeting. Tell me your plan," she ordered. "Town and woods. Two waves in an attempt to overwhelm you. Weapons that are a combination of iron and silver. Daylight to weaken the night-dwellers," he said, his voice a flat monotone. "Right. Go fight your friends. Only the humans, if you as much as touch a Greythorne resident, you are to turn yourself in and not move or object until I get there," she ordered. The man stood up, his movements almost robotic, and retrieved his dagger. Rosie stood up and brushed herself down. A familiar blue-haired woman stood a few hundred feet away.

"Evelyn! Go to the woods, there's going to be hunters there as well as in town. Tell the spriggans, the dryads, the druids, anyone who prefers to fight there, then come back and find me!" She called. The vampire nodded, punched a hunter in the throat before running him through with his own sword, before turning and running towards the woods. Rosie retrieved the sword from the fallen hunter and steeled herself for a fight, spreading her wings in a snap.

As she leaped into the air, she could see a familiar spriggan waving at her, trying to catch her attention. Spriggans rarely came into town of their own accord, Percy had to be here for something. It took her a few moments to understand him, mostly due to his excitement, but they got there in the end. "Neden and Travis have left my house? They're in the woods?" She asked, and the spriggan nodded. Rosie exhaled, knowing this was a split second decision. How much did she trust them in this scenario. "Right. Thanks for letting me know, Percy. Just... go help them. But keep an eye on them. If either of them starts acting suspicious, I want to know about it right away, understood?" The spriggan nodded and disappeared. She sighed, running a hand through her hair. Right now, she had to trust Neden. And if that meant trusting Travis again... well, they needed every ally they could get.

Trisstana smiled a bit when Zada agreed to allowing her to watch her change forms in the light and under the waters of the lake. She followed behind Zada slowly and stopped short of the water, wiggling her toes in the sand but not taking her eyes off the mermaid. Her expression didn’t change as her eyes looked over Zada’s body, starting at her legs and watching them form a beautiful tail, the small change in her neck as gills began to form and ended on her glamorous hair floating lightly in the water.

It took Triss a second to stop staring and realize the mermaid was waiting for her to join. She nodded and took two quick steps before diving in. Since she had come to Greythorne weeks ago she had only been in the bath, so being able to stretch out was great and she quickly found and swam up next to Zada, seeing her beautiful body and fins from under water. The sun shining through the surface of the water reflected off of her scales and mesmerized Triss. She had seen them before in the bathtub, but the natural water and sunlight just gave them a different shine, and she would be lying if she wasn’t jealous of the mermaid’s scales since her fins were just a greyish matte color.

As the two began to swim, Trisstana had to try a little bit harder to keep up, this she wasn’t use two. In her cotorie’s with other Nixie’s she prided herself on being faster and more agile around rocks in the river, but Zada was faster than her and it seemed like she wasn’t trying. Triss quickly realized it was probably the mermaid that grew up swimming against ocean waves rather than river currents, but it was fun chasing Zada around. She appreciated Zada waving her figner and pointing to the smaller things she hadn’t noticed her couple of minutes of swimming in the lake when she first arrived.

After one time Zada sped past her, Trisstana turned the other way and swam around, looking to cut the mermaid off from the side and give her a little surprise. It didn’t take long as she noticed Zada stop and look around for her, smiling a bit to herself as she came up from behind her and pulling her down a bit and swam over her, looking down at the mermaid, But something felt off for a second, and before Triss could react to Zada’s change of expression, the mermaid quickly swam past Triss towards the service, and it was then she heard something break the water behind her towards Zada.

When Trisstana turned around her happy expression changed to one of panic and fear as Zada was caught in a net, but it looked like it was made of something more than the normal fibers. She reached for her and almost had her hand when she was yanked out of the water and Trisstana could see two figures on the edge of the water. Triss was panicking, not knowing what was going on or if this was a bad dream. She didn’t want to lose Zada, not for everything the mermaid had done for her, the words she said to her, the way the mermaid made her feel when she would catch their eye before it darted back to her book.

Trisstana didn’t take time to think as she launched herself out of the water and tackled one of the men to ground, but he rolled her off of him and stood up back towards his partner, Triss also standing up as her tail formed back into legs “Put my sea fish down
” She said slowly through her fangs as she stared at the man holding the net, watching Zada struggle in the net and stuck in her mermaid form. ”Intel said there was only one mermaid.” One of the men said to the other. ”She’s not a mermaid. A Nixie. The one they captured years ago down south, but escaped.” Triss took a step forward as the men talked, flicking her claws out. ”Then let’s shoot this monster bitc-”. quickly launched at the guy who called her a monster and caused him to drop Zada on the ground. She dragged him into the water and wrapped her tail around him as it formed to pin him down.. She quickly slashed through the layers of protection the man had and it wasn’t long until his blood began to spill into the lake.

But as Trisstana was slashing, the other man began firing his gun into the lake, the whizzing by her, and one cutting by her arm. She quickly swam back up and breached through the surface of the water and rolling onto the ground, standing back up once she transformed. “I warned you, to let her go
” She warned the man again, the one who said she was captured before. The man just smirked and instead of aiming her gun at the woman infront of him, she pointed it at the mermaid struggling in the net on the ground. This made Triss stop in her steps as her anger filled eyes changed to fear and worry.

”How about this
I’ll toss your little fish back in the water so she doesn’t suffocate, in the net so she doesn’t attack right away, but if you take her place. Pretty sure the higher up would like to see their captured fishy turned out.” The man said. Triss didn’t remember this guy, but remembered being captured, and tortured. She told Zada about it and the woman comforted her, saying she would never let that happen. But Trisstana didn’t want to risk Zada getting hurt, and definitely didn’t want that to happen to her new companion. The man cocked the gun, pointed at Zada and made a grunt, expecting an answer. Trisstana stared at Zada, showing sorrow in her own eyes as her gaze turned back to the hunter. “Fine
” She mumbled lightly, quickly hearing Zada protest to what she just said and retracting her claws and fangs back in and took two steps towards the hunter.

The hunter let out a few chuckles as he watched the Nixie walk towards him slowly as he held out wrist restraints with the unarmed hand. “Put her back in the water! Now!” Triss shouted at the hunter. He nodded his head and moved the rifle pointed at Zada and aimed it at the Nixie, tossing the restraints into her hands. Trisstana couldn’t look at Zada and kept her head low as he shoved the mermaid tangled in the net back in the water.

The hunter turned back to Triss. ”What are you waiting for, put the restraints on.” He shouted at her, but she just dropped them on the ground. “I’d rather die than go back.” Triss said as her claws shot back out. The hunter jsut smirked as he pulled out a knife and threw down his rifle. ”It’ll be fun to gut a fish like you.” Trisstana quickly rushed and tackled the man, causing them to roll and fight a little bit on the ground. Triss quickly clawed at the man's face, but he was able to shove her hands to cause just a scratch on his cheek.

The two rolled around a bit, exchanging blows and cuts, eventually ending up on the bank of the lake, the water occasionally splashing them. The hunter was on top of Triss and had one of her hands pinned under his knee the the knife to her throat, only her one hand trying to resist and push back against the man’s grip. ”Any last words fishy?” He said with a smirk as Triss struggled, but then seeing the lake water was next to her. “Hold your breath
” The man quickly looked confused at her words, but Triss had swung one of her legs into the water and began to transform, quickly flipping him over into the water. But as he was flung off, she swung his knife and stuck it into her shoulder, making her loudly grunt out in pain. She held around where the knife was and applied pressure, her entire arm burning. She was trying to get a breather as she expected the man to come out of the water and come at her.

Travis followed Neden up stairs but waited inside as they spoke to the spriggans outside, quickly getting them to agree to letting Travis out and not immediately attacking him. Agreement was that he stuck with them and out of sight of the town, for his as well as the town’s safety. Travis quickly got to discussing their plans for defending the town for attack; their possible numbers, main points they were going to hit, strategy, waves, and much more. Neden wanted some defense around the lake, but Trav argued, talking about the Branded only know about Zada and he was pretty confident she could take care of herself.

The two of them quickly headed out to the woods to get in position, Travis would stay on the outskirts and try picking off hunters from a distance as well as try to keep any back that would try to come from the woods, knowing at some point they would. Neden said she would stick with him as back up, but Trav knew that it was more of babysitting than helping him out, though he understood why.

The attack quickly took off as they got to the edge of the woods on one side of town, screams started to come from throughout the town and Hunters began moving in. Travis and Neden got the drop on one of the main groups, quickly taking them out. Travis knew how they were trained and how they would fight, so it was easy to counter their moves and quickly put some down. He didn’t worry about Neden as the angel could take care of themselves and they certainly did with their daggers. After putting down the first group the two smirked to each other and went after a few more hunters, slowly splitting away from each other, but Travis felt the precense of the forest beings were still watching, babysitting, him. Though it was helpful as the occasional hunter would trip over something or seriously get pulled up into the high trees.

It was easy for Travis to pick off hunters from the woods after he made sure his flank would be covered, and he quickly hid in a bush. He had a suppressor on his rifle so attention couldn’t be brought to him, but there were only so many hunters on the outskirts and screams still coming from inside town. Stay in the woods Travis, it’s safer for you. He remembered Neden telling him. But he wasn’t helping just from the edge, and he came back to help. Travis sighed as he tucked some of his stuff away in the bush and quickly headed into town, not sure what the spriggans were going to do, but hoping they were busy with other hunters.

Travis quickly turned the corner as he got into town, already running into a few hunters, as well as other greythorne citizens, but got away mostly unscathed and not injuring any citizens, though most of them were just scared of seeing him. As Travis continued through town he heard a commotion down an alley and went to check it out, seeing multiple hunters cornering two people, two people he recognized. Phoenix and Alex.

“Hey assholes!” Travis yelled towards the men, quickly turning towards him. ”It’s the traitor! New target, dead or alive.” The guy hunter in the middle shouted as he went to charge at him, but conveniently got pulled to the ground by a vine. Another man came at Travis and was able to cut him on the arm before he tripped him and slammed him into the ground, knocking him out. But he was quickly pulled off and thrown aside by another man, the two exchanged blows as Trav started getting the advantage. Though some screaming distracted him and he looked to the side to see a hunter rotting. His skin and gone from a normal tan color to a greyish tone and some parts even turning black, the man crumbled into a pile and Travis quickly saw the source of this. Alex.

But while Travis was distracted with a man rotting to death, the hunter he had pinned kneed him in the gut and shoved him off, separating some distance between them. The two were probably about 8 feet apart when the hunter took our two knives and swirled them around, showing off his skill. Travis knew him, a hunter specialized in close combat and skilled with knives and swords. He smirked as he stared at Travis. “Can’t save them all, monster lover.” Trav just rolled his eyes and quickly pulled his pistol out and fired one shot into the man’s leg and another two into him, causing him to fall limp.

Travis dusted himself off, quickly looking around and making sure it was clear, and looking back at Phoenix and Alex and seeing they were safe. “Good job there, nice to see you two taking care of yourselves.”Trav said with a light hearted smile.

Panic gripped Zada as she was pulled out of the water; this wasn’t ever supposed to happen. She was supposed to be safe here, in Greythorne, and safer still in the water. She felt like the only safe haven she had was being ripped right out of her hands, and with it any chance of a happy future. She reached out, desperately, for Triss’ hand, but she couldn’t reach her. The net pulled her just out of reach. A weaker woman may have cried.

Zada first noticed that something was wrong when she didn’t start to transform after being unceremoniously plucked from the water. Her fin should have turned into legs, but they didn’t. She didn’t know if it was because the net was soaked through with water, or if it was something the hunters had done, but that hardly mattered. She felt so
Helpless, in a way she hadn’t felt in so many years. She knew that there was very little she could reasonably do; she was trapped, and she couldn’t even properly struggle. Not that she didn’t try, but she couldn’t break the fibers of the net, not with her teeth, or even her increased strength. The men were talking, but she didn’t hear them over her panic.

Zada heard Triss’ voice, saw her attack one of the hunters, and something else rose in her. A part of her was so glad to see Trisstana, at the thought of rescue, and yet there was the desire that Triss had stayed hidden. She should have stayed in the water, stayed safe. The last thing Zada wanted was for both of them to die. Then Trisstana was charging, and Zada fell to the ground. Hitting the ground knocked the breath out of her, and she was quickly reminded how difficult it could be to breath out of the water. Zada had never had to experience this before, and she wasn’t very fond of it. She tried to struggle out of the net again, but she felt weaker by the second, and soon it would be a fight just to stay awake. She heard Trisstana and the remaining hunter talking about her, discussing the conditions of her release. Don’t agree, Zada pleaded with Triss, though only in her mind, Don’t agree, you know they’ll just kill us both anyway. But Trisstana agreed. “No!” Zada cried, as loudly as firmly as she could muster, but it was no use. They weren’t listening to her.

Tears filled Zada’s eyes as she looked at Triss, “Don’t- don’t-” But between the hunter barking orders and Triss insisting he put Zada back in the water, Zada couldn’t get the words out. Her vision was starting to fade. She was going to die anyway. Trisstana was giving herself up for nothing.

The relief wasn’t instant. It took a few moments for Zada to feel, ironically, like she wasn’t drowning. Once her head felt clear, she finally had the time to try to work herself out of the net. Maybe if she was fast enough, she could get to Triss in time. It was easier, now, with no one hold on to the other end of the net, and now that she wasn’t floundering to catch her breath. But there was so much blood in the water, and it was making her feel a little desperate. Hungry.

She heard the splash of someone entering the water, and for a moment she felt hopeful, like Triss had gotten away, came back into the water. She quickly realised, however, that the splash was all wrong. It didn’t take too long for her to find the source. That damned hunter. She flashed a smile, revealing rows of sharp teeth. She knew that, under the water, she was faster than he could ever be. He didn’t stand a chance; she tore him apart without a moment’s hesitation. Fresh blood clouded the water, and fresh flesh filled her belly. But she didn’t spend too long, didn’t quite eat her fill; she had to check on Trisstana.

As she left the water, there was a part of her that was worried her fin wouldn’t properly transform again, but the fear was unfounded. She hurried across the shore, dropping to her knees beside the nixie, “You’re hurt.” Her tone was less concerned than it was factual, but there was very real concern written on her face, if only subtly. The way her eyes flashed across Triss’ body, taking inventory of any injuries she may have, her fingers brushing the damp hair from Triss’ eyes. “Can you walk? We can-” She heard screaming in the distance; they’d reached the town. “We need to go.” Their best bet was to get inside, hide away if they could. There was no guarantee that the hunters wouldn’t attack people in their homes, but Zada knew they were attacking anyone out in the open. Hopefully they had a few moments, “Hold on.” She dressed quickly, maybe a little sloppily, and helped Triss to her feet. She didn’t want to remove the knife, not here where she couldn’t bandage up the wound, at least, “We’re going to be okay,” Zada felt like her words were a lie, but she said them anyway, “I promise.”

i want to be a better person,
outfitx|x#3a0a4d
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzi don't want to be afraid anymore.
xx
Alex had never really been the type to go to the market, but it seemed that a lot had changed in the past few months. Truth be told, Alex had been glued to Phoenix’s side, lately. This wasn’t necessarily unusual for anyone to see, everyone in town was used to seeing them together. They were inseparable when they were children, and whether that was because Alex had a hard time making other friends or because they had just genuinely always gotten along was anyone’s guess. This was, of course, different. There was a different level of affection, and an underlying terror that something horrible could happen if he walked too far away. It was silly, of course. Everything was fine. Still, Alex worried. Some part of him wondered if he’d always been a worrier, or if these constant attacks had made him like that. But that morning he had Phoenix, the sunshine, some strawberries. What more could he ask for?

Alex figured that Phoenix was about ready to go, and yet there he was, pouring over various knick-knacks and trinkets. He remembered when he was a kid, his grandparents always said that every time he left the house, he came home with something new. Whether that be a rock, a charm, or a frog he’d caught. Not much had changed there, though he’d mostly stopped catching frogs. He tried to limit the amount of “junk” he brought home, but it was hard not to see everything as a potential treasure.

Then the screaming started. At first, Alex wondered if it was all just a dream; an attack in broad daylight just didn’t seem right. But the screaming continued, bodies were dropping. Alex didn’t know who'd reached out for the other, but he was holding Phoenix’s hand. He didn’t like any of this, every time there was an attack they lost someone, and every attack had threatened everything that meant something to him. He turned to look at Phoenix.

Then he was running; Phoenix was pulling him along, and he wasn’t complaining. It was chaos, the sounds of terror filled the air, people were running in every direction, running into one another, scrambling over one another, picking each other back up. Fight or flight, it seemed, had kicked in town wide. Personally, Alex was all flight, no fight. He’d always been more prone to running, and was even more so since that first attack.

If we can just get home, He reasoned with himself, we’ll be okay. He wasn’t feeling particularly hopeful, though. One- or both- of them had gotten hurt in every attack so far. How much longer could this go on? But they were closer to safety by the second, and Alex started to feel like it might be okay this time. They might be okay this time.

Then they were cut off by a group of hunters, herded towards an alleyway. This was uncomfortably familiar, and he swore the scar on his stomach was burning at the memory of that first attack. Still, it was all too easy to find himself backed into a corner. After that everything happened so quickly. If the hunters said anything, Alex didn’t hear it over the ringing in his ears. It was low, constant, and reminded him more of the ocean. Or of turmoil. Fear. Then a voice cut through, bouncing through his head as if it had always existed there. She hadn’t spoken to him, or even reached out in a dream, since they’d made their pact. The fact that she was there in his time of need may have been comforting, if the circumstances were different. “Are you just going to stand there like last time? Let them kill you again?”

Alex wondered if she would hear his thoughts, or if he had to speak aloud. That’s not what happened. I tried, but I-

“Because you’re weak. Don’t worry, I’m not.”

Alex seemed to snap back to reality just in time for the action. Alex could hear screaming, crying, gunshots. He heard it all, but it almost sounded like he was underwater, or a mile away. It reminded him of dying- or, almost dying- but not quite. Travis was there. Why was Travis there? He didn’t seem to be on the hunter’s side, unless this was some kind of trap. The fighting seemed real enough, though Alex felt like he was watching it all remotely. Like he wasn’t real. It felt like a dream; everything was happening around him, he was present, but he felt like he didn’t have control over anything. Not even himself.

Normally he would have taken the distraction Travis had created to try and run. He knew he was no match against hunters, even with his powers. But a whisper in the back of his mind told him to stop. The last time he’d ignored a warning like that, he’d very nearly died. The remaining hunter (that wasn’t fighting Travis) turned back to Alex and Phoenix, presumably bored of watching a fistfight between humans. There really wasn’t that much space between them, but Alex ran.

“Close the gap. Don’t give him a chance. All you have to do is touch him.”

When Alex was young, he’d always imagined that using his powers to do something more substantial than reanimating a butterfly would feel like something. He’d never known what he expected, really. A surge of power? Warmth? Since then, he’d found that the only thing he really felt when he used his powers was cold. Maybe that was just the reality of death; it was cold. This felt different, though. Something was flowing through him, using him. It wasn’t him, but it wasn’t not him, either.

Alex grabbed the man’s arm and the first thing he noticed was the screaming, then the rot as the man’s flesh began to decay. Then came an overwhelming feeling, one he wasn’t sure he recognized, at first. He felt powerful. Alex didn’t move as he watched the man rot and decay; he didn’t scream for long, his skin quickly began to liquify, and he crumpled to the ground as his decomposition continued. Alex looked down at his hands, turning them over as if to study them. He heard a gunshot, looked up. Travis. Travis’ words seemed to make the realization of what had just happened hit Alex, and he quickly brought a fist up to cover his mouth as he gagged. Fuck, he thought to himself, don’t let this bother you, it’s just another dead guy. Then he doubled over and retched all over his shoes, and whatever was left of the hunter he’d killed. Then, weakly, asked, “Phoenix, you okay?”

i know the world's a broken bonexxx outfit | #c4a7be xxx but melt your headaches, call it home

They were so nearly home. So nearly safe, where they could lock and barricade the door and just wait for this all to be over. There was a tiny, foolish part of him that told him this was selfish, they should be trying to help and fight. But that hadn’t gone so well for them in the past, and they weren’t going to be any use to anyone hurt. Or worse.

And then suddenly, hunters seemed to be coming at them from every angle. He’d seen this tactic before. His heart felt like it was in his throat, the scar on his shoulder burning uncomfortably, as the familiarity of the situation hung over them like a ghost. Phoenix dug deep, knowing how outnumbered they were. And then a distraction came in the form of a vaguely familiar voice, and Phoenix took his chance. As one stormed forward to deal with the newcomer, Phoenix summoned a vine to wrap around his leg and yank him to the ground with enough force to knock him out. That was enough, that was all they needed, he just needed to be out long enough for them to run. He turned to look at the newcomer, confirming what he’d suspected. It was Travis. He appeared to be on their side, for now at least, and Phoenix didn’t have time to doubt or suspect him. But he knew that Travis knew them well enough that if he did decide to turn on them, he’d also know exactly how to exploit their weaknesses and take them down.

There was another hunter now, turning towards the two of them. Phoenix braced himself. But things seemed to go into slow motion as Phoenix saw Alex was already running towards him. He yelled out without even thinking, already prepared to deal with the hunter or pull Alex back to safety, whatever was easier. This was a scenario that was too chillingly familiar, just in reverse, the memories crashing into one another, and he didn’t think they’d be lucky enough to escape a third time. And then Alex’s hand made contact with the hunter and Phoenix froze, not quite able to believe what he was seeing.

The hunter was
rotting, decomposing, weeks and months of decay happening in seconds. He fell to dust in front of them. And Alex had done it. The gunshots seemed to be happening somewhere else, in a dream. But Phoenix still turned to look at Travis. Travis mustn’t have seen it because he couldn’t quite believe that he would be
that calm if he had. The calmness alarmed Phoenix slightly, still uncertain about Travis’ alliances.

“Yeah, thanks. Uh
you too.” Alex had turned grey beside him, and Phoenix quickly turned back to Travis. “I think we’ve got it from here.” It wasn’t as much a reassurance as an order. They didn’t need his help and they didn’t want it. Even if Phoenix wasn’t totally sure about how true it was. He turned back to Alex just in time for him to throw up. And even after that, he turned to make sure Phoenix was okay. “Yeah, I’m
I’m fine.” Honestly, Phoenix didn’t even know how he was staying so calm, and the only answer he could find was that things just hadn’t fully set in yet. He was still processing what he'd just seen, and it felt like his brain was just refusing to acknowledge what it had actually been. Alex had never been able to do anything like that. He had to stop himself from just asking what the hell had just happened, but another look at Alex told him that it could wait.

“Are you
” he trailed off. Of course Alex wasn’t okay, Phoenix hadn’t seen him that colour since they were a teenager and the nightmares had been especially bad. “That feels like a stupid question. Are you okay to walk home or
 do you need help or
”

And here was the panic, beginning to set in, except it wasn’t even panicked enough, it was just oh my god we nearly died again. But he could deal with that much, they just needed to get home safe. He only needed to be functional for that long. And then all the questions that were beginning to buzz at the back of his mind could be answered.

Hayden didn’t ask any questions as he healed Neden’s wound. He didn’t need to. He hadn’t encountered many hunters before, but he did still know about the patterns their silver weapons left behind. Neden ordered them to go back into town once he was done, and he nodded, taking Kay’s hand again as they left. Holding her hand felt like the most normal thing now, and he knew he didn’t want to let go.

But by the time they got back into town, the town was filled with screaming and the sound of a fight. The hunters were here. His grip tightened on Kay’s hand as he tried to think, tried to figure out what exactly they were going to do. He’d been taught how to fight, but he also had never been much of a strategist in terms of fighting, and he also needed to protect Kay. He'd never even encountered hunters in person, not in an overwhelming attack like this. On the rare occasion some had showed up to his home, they'd been hugely outnumbered, and things had ended somewhat peacefully, or at least... quickly.

One solution did occur to him, one that would make sure they could get back to her house safe, but
he still hadn’t told her the full extent of what he could do, and he was enjoying the normality of their relationship. He was well aware it was vaguely ridiculous given what was happening, but he didn’t want being a druid to ruin that if he could avoid it. And so he'd find a way around it if he could at all.

“Kay, you need to listen to me. We need to get back to your house as quickly as possible, okay? But if I tell you to run and I’m not following, you run no matter what. I can handle myself, especially after Neden gave me this, but you’re unarmed, and I don’t want you putting yourself in danger, okay?” He smiled at her and squeezed her hand to reassure her. "Don't worry about me. I've got this. I just want to keep you safe, that's all. We're not stopping to fight, we're just going to run, okay?"

if i am to feel sure of anything,
outfitx|x#6e9ecf
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzi must learn to feel sure of me.
xx
For all it’s faults, Greythorne really was beautiful in the spring. Zoe hadn’t been the fondest of it covered in a layer of snow (it was so very cold), but now that the sun was shining and the earth was warming up, she felt like she could really take it all in, so she was taking her time with her errands. She considered texting Phoenix: if Alex was in a good mood, he would tolerate her, and she might be able to convince him to talk to her for a few moments. She didn’t know why she didn’t just give up on him, he was a jerk. A part of her wondered what he would be like if their father had spent more time with him. She’d slowly begun to realize the part her father played in all of it, and a part of her wondered if she’d been living a lie her entire life.

But that day, out walking around the town, she really only thought about how nice it was. She’d heard about the recent attacks on the town, but it had been pretty peaceful since she’d arrived, and everything seemed so normal now. People were talking, laughing, enjoying the (relative) warmth and sunshine. All the worries the town had seemed to be long gone. She smiled at the sound of children playing nearby. It made her think of home: she missed the children she taught back at the coven, whether she was teaching them the basics of their powers, or how to play piano. She’d felt so lazy in the weeks she’d been in Greythorne, she needed something more to occupy her time.

She started to pay more attention to where she was going just in time to narrowly avoid running directly into someone. Her immediate instinct was to look down at the ground before blurting out, “Oh, sorry! Are you okay?” Her face was red with embarrassment. The people in this town were still a little wary of her, and she understood that. She was an outsider, they didn’t know her, they’d been attacked several times in less than a year. It was a wonder she was being tolerated at all. So she had been trying to stay out of the way, though she had been prying into Alex’s past perhaps a little more than was normal. She pretty quickly realized that it was Jaiden, though, and relief hit her, then. She flashed a smile at Jaiden, “Hi, I-” She stopped talking as Jaiden addressed a group that was standing behind her. Something about that didn’t sound good, but Jaiden was explaining quickly enough.

Hunters? A part of Zoe had always known this was a possibility. She’d been the one who willingly came to town after it had been subjected to two attacks by hunters in less than half a year. But still, Zoe had no idea of what to do. “How can I help? I mean, I’ll stay with you, and if there’s anything I can do, I want to help.” It didn’t feel right, to her, that hunters would attack this town full of people just trying to live their lives. These weren’t vampires or demons out killing innocent people; this was just a town full of people trying to live their lives.

It wasn’t long before the screaming started, they were there, and yet somehow Zoe felt strangely calm. Not like she was prepared, but like this was just inevitable, or like it didn’t feel real. Everything she knew about the world told her she would likely stand face-to-face with hunters one day. Sure, plenty of witches didn’t, but she’d always known it was likely.

As people ran, and Zoe heard gunshots, everything seemed to become very real. Maybe too real. She looked to Jaiden, and then looked around for some water source. A fountain, pond, hell even a water hose would do in a pinch. She couldn’t pull moisture from the air, but she knew a spray of water could be very disarming.

Jaiden gave Zoe a brief smile and nod as she said that she'd help, she just needed to be told what to do. In realty, Jaiden had no idea. She wasn't expecting any of this, nevermind knowing what to do in this scenario. Granted, she had the upper hand of having been in this exact situation two times prior, but, something about this was different. Why during the day? None of it sat right with her, but if she were to venture a guess, simply for the Hunters not having to deal with the vampires and those that can only come out at night. At least that's what was making sense to her at the moment, but she didn't have the time to think about it.

She either had to take Zoe with her, or send her off on her own. As much as she knew she probably shouldn't have, a part of her kept nagging her to not let Zoe be by herself. Jaiden wasn't sure if she was being paranoid, but the idea of her being alone just, didn't sit right with her. Jaiden nodded, "Alright, just stay close and-" Jaiden didn't even get to finish her sentence when a Hunter seemed to appear out of nowhere. He what looked like to be a long and jagged knife in his right hand and went for a quick few jabs at Jaiden. The witch managed to dodge his first few swipes of the blade, and managed to get a few good punches in before he managed to swipe down as she went for an uppercut to his chin, and slashed her arm.

Jaiden let out a yell as her arm was slashed by the giant blade, giving the Hunter a look no one had seen in months as she enclosed the Hunter in a cage of fire, and watched as his skin and clothing melted away due to the flames as the remains of the Hunter crumpled into a heap on the ground. Jaiden barely even realized what had happened until it was already too late, seeing a fuming pile of remains. Jaiden didn't even know how it happened, it happened all too quickly. But seeing what she had done had caused her stomach to tie itself into nots, as she hunched over and retched onto the ground. Jaiden didn't even take into account that she had been injured, the only thing that went through her mind was keeping others safe, she only noticed when her arm began to ache and burn. Looking down at the fresh wound she cursed under her breath before looking up at Zoe as she held her forearm, "Are you okay, Zoe?" Jaiden questioned, genuine worry and concern overtook her face as she looked at the other woman.

Violet ran throughout the town's streets, warning people left and right as she passed by them, making sure everyone knew what was to come. And then it happened. The screams. She didn't know where they started originally, but they seemed to be coming from all around as Hunters just appeared from what seemed like thin air. Violet dodged out of the way as one of Hunters jumped out from an alleyway, and watched as a werewolf lunged at the Hunter, taking him to the ground. Violet watched for a moment before she turned on her heels and continued to run. She didn't know where she was going, or what she was going to do. But she ran. She didn't know how long she had been running for, but something didn't begin to feel right.

One moment, she was running down the streets of Greythorne, dodging and weaving in between panicked townsfolk, and as she blinked, Violet stopped in her tracks and fell to the ground with a soft thud. Violet pushed herself backward as she looked around in a panicked state, as she wasn't entirely sure of what was going on. The streets and buildings of Greythorne were gone, and in their place was a darkened hallway. Barely any light sources dotted the otherwise barren hallway that she was now in. The walls were covered in a dark, navy-blue color, which appeared to be black without the lighting. Hardwood floors replaced the old concrete streets that she had just seen moments prior. Something about this old and foreboding hallway felt familiar, yet foreign at the same time. The only sound she could hear was the sound of her own heavy breathing, mixed with the dull droning sound of an old grandfather clock that resided to the left of the hallway, but just a bit further down from where she was currently standing.

Violet stood in utter silence as she tried to think of where she was. It was only when a familiar voice broke the silence that she began to piece it together. The voice sounded far away, and disembodied, like an echo that seemed to be coming from all around her. "What do you think you're doing?" it sounded, like a booming voice that came from right behind her, which caused Violet to jump back and away from the voice, looking around frantically for the source of the voice. "What do you want from me? Why the fuck am I here?" she called out angrily. A low rumble of what could be considered a laugh sounded, almost shaking the very ground. "You know the deal, Violet. Or do I need to remind you-"

"You don't have to fucking remind me. I am well aware of what it was. But that doesn't give you the right to-" another rumble shook the ground, causing Violet to slam into one of the walls, "Need I remind you of why you are even alive, my dear? You are mine. And as such, you do as I say, and say as I do. You do not get to break the rules or make your own. Which includes putting yourself in harm's way!" the voice said angrily, slowly getting closer and closer the more it spoke. "I know, I know. But that doesn't mean that you get to break your end of the deal! This was to help them! I can't be here, I need to help them now! They're in danger and-"

"You are mine, Violet. You do not get to go and get yourself killed because of some idiots!"

Violet recoiled at the sudden shift in tone. Never had she heard him raise his voice, not like this. This was genuine anger, nothing like she had heard before. Taking a deep breath, she needed to think. She needed to get out of here and get back to her friends, even if she had to make a choice she knew would be hard for her to make. "Okay look...Let me back there, one last time and...I will help them, and afterwards..." Violet took one more deep breath before she finished her end, "Afterwards I...I'll be your's. For however long you want, I won't disobey another order. I swear.."

There was a few solid minutes of silence that fell over the room after she finished speaking. Violet didn't know what to expect, and then the voice finally spoke up one last time, "I will let you go, under one condition. You even consider betraying me, and the deal we made, your precious friends will die. Do you understand?" the voice said softly, almost above a whisper that caused the hair's on her neck to stand on end. "Okay...I...I promise." she stammered as she closed her eyes. Silence filling the room once more as she was left alone.

Violet blinked once more, as a harsh light assaulted her eyes upon looking around her once more. Gone were the prison-like confines of the hallway, and the eery silence that surrounded her. All that surrounded her were the screams of pure panic and fear as bodies were strewn about the city streets. Both Hunter and townsfolk. Violet felt a not form in her stomach as she looked around at all the death and chaos, but she couldn't help the nagging feeling that was slowly rising within her once more. It was the same feeling as the day when Alex was entranced by the strange woman that was with Zada. Something she had felt a few other times, but she understood it this time. Alex was in danger, and he was afraid. All Violet knew was to run, she had to find Alex. She didn't know why, but she just had to.

Neden didn't initially wait for Travis to follow them up the stairs, but they made sure to wait by the front door for him, making sure to tell him to wait for them to talk to the spriggans and druids outside first. Last thing they needed was for the creatures to attack Travis out of miscommunication. Neden was outside talking to them for only a minute or so, managing to make a deal with them. Travis would be allowed out of the house and be able to help, if he stayed next to Neden and out of the town, staying to the woods only. Neden let Travis out and went over how things were to go over with him as they left the house and surrounding property. Going over how things were going to go, how many numbers they could estimate, and everything else that they both knew about the branded. Coming to an odd agreeance by the end. Neden even suggested that they have some defense around the lake, knowing that the last few times Hunters had been there. But Travis added how the Hunters only knew about one person that hung around the lake and ensured Neden that it would be fine. Something Neden wasn't absolutely okay with, but they didn't have the time to argue. They'd have to work together on this.

The two of them made their way deeper into the woods, and got ready for the fight that was to come. Knowing full well how they worked, something Neden was happy about having someone else on their side that knew how this worked. As they made their way towards the edge of the woods which led into the town, they could hear the screams and yells from the town, knowing what that meant. Hunters had already made it into the town. Fuck. They already wasted enough time, which they couldn't have afforded.

By this time, Travis and Neden had managed to get the drop on most of the first few waves of Hunters, easily taking them out as they fought side by side. This was something Neden didn't expect. Not only fighting beside Travis after everything but fighting the Branded once more was, something that never sat right with them. Part of them felt like something was wrong with that thought, that fighting a group that once they fought alongside just felt off. Choosing to shake it off, they didn't dwell on it for too long.

The two continued to pick off Hunter by Hunter, and easily took them out, giving each other a small smile before they saw more Hunters making their way towards them once again. Slowly the two were separated as they went after more Hunters, not paying much mind, as Neden knew Travis could take care of himself enough. And if not, that wasn't of their concern. They had something more of a concern to focus on. Mainly looking back as Hunters were occasionally pulled back into the trees by the Spriggans and dryads. Smirking to themselves as Neden continued to pick off Hunter after Hunter, barely breaking a sweat. Neden only stopped to catch their breath when they began to notice how silent the forest began to become. Looking around, bodies laid strewn about the forest, many were Hunters, few being forest folk, which made Neden feel worse as they hadn't been fully focused on the others.

Neden sheathed their swords to their back as they slowly walked through the woods, checking on the spriggans that were injured, or taking care of the ones that were hurt. Neden was planning on staying in the forest, stay out of sight of those in the town, but something didn't entirely sit right with them. Something from inside the town was calling to them, or at least that's what they could have sworn it felt like. Looking around once more, Neden turned and made their way to the town, using their wings to take them there at a faster rate. Landing on the roof of one of the buildings, Neden observed the chaos that unfolded before them. Bodies of Hunters and townfolk littered the streets, cars were on fire, as well as buildings had been broken into. Memories of the first few attacks came rushing back to them as they observed from above, a small knot forming in their stomach.

The angel retrieved the bow from their back, and looked down, taking aim at a few Hunters that were below, and watched as they fell to the ground as their bodies fell limp. Looking around once more, Neden spotted a familiar form in the distance. From what it looked like, the figure was slowly beginning to be outnumbered by Hunters that approached from the distance. Neden crouched down, and launched themselves forward, using their wings to help propel them forward, taking aim at two of the Hunters in the distance. Neden landed a few feet away from Rosie, rolling as their feet hit the ground, and used their bow to trip an oncoming Hunter. Slamming their foot into the Hunters head, snapping his neck with ease. Neden quickly turned to see two more Hunters encroaching at an alarming rate, getting two more arrows, they quickly fired and then backed away, seeing one of the Hunters being hit in the arm and the other dodged out of the way of the arrow.

Neden sighed and quickly retrieved a throwing knife from their pant' pocket and aimed it at one of the Hunters, and quickly threw it, piercing the Hunter's throat and knocking him off his feet. Bleeding out quickly as he gasped for breath as he seized on the floor and went still. Neden panted heavily as they were finally able to catch their breath, looking across the street as they finally made eye contact with Rosie. Neden remained silent and solemn-faced as they looked at Rosie, not exactly knowing how she felt about seeing them once more. Especially now.

The angel looked at Rosie in silence, quickly aiming another arrow and set aim towards the siren, watching as it fire passed Rosie and was lodged into a Hunter's head, falling down into a heap just behind the woman. Neden gave a small smirk and nod to Rosie, putting the bow back where it belonged as they quickly jogged over to Rosie, meeting her halfway, "Are you okay? I would have been here sooner I...I'm sorry. I just...I shouldn't have left, I'm sorry, Rosie. Everything was just...I'll explain things afterward just...I'm sorry." the angel said with a rather saddened tone, which didn't last long as they recollected themselves, "Anyway, if there is anything you need me to do, just let me know. I've already taken care of the woods, but...I don't doubt that more will come. Travis is around here somewhere but, we were separated in the woods. I know it's hard to trust us but...I promise you, we're together on this."

Travis internally sighed as Phoenix quickly said they had it under control, but he could tell by his tone and the way he quickly dismissed him that they, or atleast Phoenix, didn’t want him there and didn’t want his help. “Okay, just, be careful.” Trav said as he began walking away. Wanting to say more, try to convince him that he was here to help them, that he is as much an enemy to the Branded as they are now. But he knew at the moment his words would fall on deaf ears and that right now in the middle of an attack isn’t the right time for this.

As Trav walked at a fast pace he thought about what his next move would be with all the chaos going on around him. Phoenix and Alex were some of the people who actually knew Travis before he was outed and their reactions weren’t exactly fond of seeing him, he thought of maybe heading back into the woods and to stay out of sight, but then a female yelling caught his attention and his panic rose. What if it’s Rosie and she’s in trouble? He thought to himself, before quickly picking up to a running pace and headed towards the direction he heard the screams.

It didn’t take him long to get to the source of the yelling, and Travis would be lying if he said he wasn’t relieved to see it wasn’t Rosie, but instead a blue haired woman he had seen around Greythorne only a couple of times, a vampire if he recalled correctly. As he arrived he watched her take down a hunter, assuming she also took down the bodies around her, but he could tell she was injured. Travis began walking towards the vampire, but quickly seeing her get defensive, assuming she knew who he was. Even in her weakened state, Trav knew she could easily lunge out and fight him with her final breaths, and while she may be injured, she was still dangerous.

“Whoa, whoa. Calm down there fangs. If I wanted to attack you or kill you, I would’ve done it at a distance.” He said holding up his hands, trying to show he didn’t mean any harm to her. Travis wasn’t sure why he was doing this, he should be heading back to the woods to stay safe, or looking to find Rosie, but he couldn’t just leave the woman here, especially since she seemed injured. As she approached slowly he saw one of the hunter’s blades on the ground covered in blood, but noticed that it also had a layer of a poison on it specifically to combat vampires.

These were far from the ideal fighting conditions for Evelyn. Even with sunglasses, sun screen, and a baseball cap pulled low over her eyes, the sun still made it harder for her to fight. And the hunters had clearly identified the fact that she was a vampire, because they were forcing her out into the sunniest spots. Dealing with them was still easy. They were fast, sure, but not as fast as her.

They seemed to have sent more this time than the previous times, clearly an attempt to try to overwhelm them. Evelyn had lured a group of them away from a young shapeshifter. She was painfully outnumbered as a result, but she’d seen the girl get back to her mother, and that was all she’d wanted. She smiled a fanged grin at the hunters.

Two of them fell quickly, impaled on the sword she’d stolen from another of their number. One was a little quicker, managing to dance just outside her reach, while another attempted to jump her from behind. She threw him off easily, slicing at him. She felt the icy cold burn of a dagger before she even saw the hunter, crying out instinctively. But the pain didn’t come until after she’d dealt with him and was staring down the last.

“This is your last chance to surrender,” she warned. The hunter laughed.
“You don’t look like you’re going to last long yourself, bloodsucker.”
“Long enough to make sure you can’t hurt anyone else, asshole.” He laughed again, and Evelyn took the chance to run him through. The grin died on his face as he hit the ground. She dropped the sword, putting a hand to her side. Her body was already trying to heal it up, but she wasn’t optimistic.

Somebody else approached her, and she instinctively jumped back, ready to attack. It was the traitor, Travis. “Get back,” she warned. He put his hands up, clearly trying to appear non-threatening, but Evelyn knew not to trust him. God, she should have just killed him herself instead of getting Rosie.

“Mm. Yeah, sure you would. I’ve heard enough about you, traitor, to know that you prefer close range fighting. Usually a gun, but whatever you can get your hands on. So. What’s this, a distraction? Another ambush? I really do hate to disappoint but you’re probably wasting your time with that,” she warned.

Travis sighed as the vampire stayed hostile, referencing his use of a gun and him just being a distraction. “Fine.” He slowly reached and pulled the pistol out of his jacket and tossing it to the side. “No gun. But listen to me, Evelyn right?” Trav asked. “The blade that caused that wound, it had a coating on it specific for vampires, mixed with garlic and some other chemicals I can’t pronounce or even spell. It’s meant to target your healing power factors and slow them down, basically bringing you to the level of a human, making you weaker.”

As he paused for a second he took a few steps closer to Evelyn, but moving slowly and keeping his hand visible so as not to spook her. Travis knew she could easily cut him down and while he was a little worried about her doing that, he wasn’t afraid of it happening. “I’m not asking you to fall into my arms or trust me to watch your back. I’m just trying to help you. It won’t be long until you bleed out, and I doubt I can find Kaylessa or any other healers before that happens, let alone they would trust to follow me.” He finished as he took a final step, only being about a few feet away from the vampire.

Evelyn just watched as he threw the gun away, apparently trying to prove that he wasn’t a threat. She still didn’t trust him, but when he started talking about the exact weapon they’d used, her blood ran cold. That explained the amount of blood she still seemed to be losing. Her head was starting to swim, even if she wouldn’t admit it to him.

He insisted that she didn’t need to trust him, that he just wanted to help her, and she narrowed her eyes a little. She wasn’t sure what he was trying to do here or what he wanted to get out of it. But he was close enough for her to attack him now, and he still didn’t seem to be making any moves to attack her.

“So how do you think you can help?” She asked, still on her guard and keeping the weapon clutched in her hand.

“Blood.” Travis said in reply to her asking how he can help. “Vampires grow stronger with the blood they suck. But with the coated blade preventing your healing, have a source of fresh blood should balance it out and heal your injuries.” He continued as he took off his jacket. “So I think you can piece the rest of what I’m saying together.” Trav thought it was pretty obvious what he was hinting at, Evelyn sucking some of his blood so he could rejuvenate her healing powers.

The woman vampire seemed to try to argue with him, but he quickly interrupted her. “Hey. Listen. Do you really have time to argue? And it’s not like I injected holy water or garlic into my blood to try to kill you by having you suck my blood.” Travis said, lightly rubbing his neck. “Well?”

She raised her eyebrows as Travis began talking about blood. Letting her drink would strengthen her, probably enough to counteract whatever they’d treated the blade with, but
there weren’t many humans that would offer it up that freely, and even fewer hunters. “What do you want out of this?” She asked, folding her arms.

But then he made a point, saying she didn’t really have time. She sighed. Her legs were already weak and her vision was blurring around the edges. So she sighed, tossing the sword to the side. “Fine. Thanks
I guess. Are you sure?” She asked as she took a few steps closer, close enough for her to bite. As soon as he said yes, she took a deep breath before sinking her teeth into his neck. She hadn’t realised how thirsty she was, how weak she was, until she began to feed, feeling the effects almost instantaneously.

Travis took a deep breathe and quickly felt the woman’s fangs in his neck. He’s been bit by vampires in the past, thought usually out of hostility and attacked, as well as only on the arm. But this felt different, he could almost feel the blood flowing through his body and towards his neck. The pain only came in the first few seconds and as time went on he started to get cold. He was thinking of telling the woman to stop it, it was enough, but he could barely think as his body seemed to slow down.

After what felt like forever, Travis started to feel weaker, barely able to keep himself standing. Tasting his fresh blood and feeding must have made her more thirsty. He could feel himself start to lose consciousness but didn’t have enough strength to say anything. It wasn’t long before Travis’s legs began to give out and he slumped over, which caused Evelyn to finally pull her fangs back and catch him. He blinked a couple times before speaking. “Seemed like that should’ve healed you up a bit.” He said with a chuckle before slowly closing his eyes and passing out.

There was something in Evelyn’s head warning her that she should stop, that she was gone too far. But the strength was too good, the fact she could almost feel her body fighting back against the wound and stitching itself back together. She hadn’t fed from many humans, but something about this felt
 different.

And then Travis collapsed, and Evelyn snapped out of it just in time to catch him. Even though he was taller and heavier than her, she caught him easily, her strength restored. But he was white as a sheet. With shaking hands, Evelyn checked his pulse. Weak, but still there.

“Shit,” she mumbled to herself, trying to figure out what to do. She knew if she left him here, the hunters would probably get to him anyway. And that didn’t seem right. So she threw him over her shoulder in a fireman’s carry, and started darting through the streets with the intention of finding the only person she knew could deal with something like this.

Kaylessa and Hayden hurried back into town and trying to avoid any hunters so they wouldn’t have to fight or have any sort of confrontation. They decided to go through town thinking it would be the easiest way to get back home since her home was on the other side and going back around the outside of Greythorne would take longer and they thought they would be more vulnerable in the open. But when they went down a few streets the realized going through town wouldn’t exactly be safer as the hunters were already in town and attacking and even trying to take some citizens back alive, capturing.

The two of them stopped behind a corner as Kay felt Hayden tighten her hand in his, she could obviously see he was trying to figure something out, some sort of plan, or a way out for them. She wanted to ask what they were going to do, but wasn’t entirely sure if he would have a plan to answer her. But Hayden quickly turned back to her and started talking. She didn’t like what he was saying, about just running if he told her to run and leave him behind. “But
” Kaylessa tried to speak up, but Hayden told her to not worry about him and he just wanted to keep her safe. She just nodded and squeezed his hand back, the two of them continued through town to head home.

As Hayden lead Kaylessa through town, they were able to avoid most of the fighting and chaos, cutting through alleys and running across streets. But when they crossed a street a few hunters round the corner and stared at the two of them, Kay freezing in place on the sidewalk, scared like a deer in headlights to move. They weren’t suppose to run into a hunters, they were suppose to be getting home safe and without any sort of trouble, but here they were standing across and outnumbered by some hunters.

It took Kaylessa a moment to come back into what was going on as her mind was racing as to what to do, not noticing Hayden was speaking to her until he was practically shaking her. When she came back he was telling her to run and not to turn back. “Hayden. I can’t leave you, I-” He interrupted her again, saying he would be right behind her shortly after taking care of the hunters and such. She hesitated at first before he just smiled at her and turned back around, the blade Neden gave him in hand. Kay quickly turned around and started to run, quickly turning a corner and heading down an alleyway to try to stay out of sight.

Kaylessa got to the end of the alleyway before she stopped at the end of the street, looking back and not seeing Hayden, thinking back to what he said. He could take care of himself. He was from an actual tribe and probably done this before. But
she couldn’t help but worry, he was brave and willing to fight, while she just ran when he told him to. Her mind started to race again about what could happen, and all she did was run away when he didn’t. Kaylessa knew she had to do something and she couldn’t just run away from the fight. She felt like she would regret this decision, but she quickly started to run again, but this time back towards Hayden instead of home.

Kay wasn’t too far away so it didn’t take her long to get back to Hayden, but as she rounded the corner she saw that Hayden was still up and defending himself with the weapon he was given. Kaylessa continued running and jumped onto one of the hunter’s back. “Get away from my elf!” She just about screamed. The hunter stumbled around and tried reaching behind him to get the half-elf off of him, before eventually bumping her against the wall and her letting go and falling to the ground, the air basically being knocked out of her. ”Little half-elf. Were told to take you in alive, though an accident might happen.” The stranger said as he picked Kaylessa up by the neck, her trying claw at the mans arms and take small breathes.

can't let this moment endxxx outfit | #cc0460 xxx you set off a dream in me

There were definitely more of them than there had been in previous attacks. It seemed like everyone was outnumbered by two or three of them, and they seemed to be better prepared. There was a moment when Rosie was suddenly afraid that they wouldn’t win this time- but she couldn’t afford to think like that. They just needed to fight their asses off and take down as many of the bastards as they could.

Rosie had already taken down three of them, but every time she turned around, there seemed to be more and more approaching. She just steeled herself and prepared to take down another, but a figure came soaring down from a height, taking down two hunters with a bow and tripping another. The hunters apparently regarded the newcomer as a bigger threat, which was their first mistake. Rosie took down another one herself as Neden hurled a knife at one of them. The remaining hunters seemed to vanish, as if deciding they needed to find easier targets.

Rosie turned to look at Neden as she caught her breath, making eye contact with the angel. She was glad to see them, especially in these circumstances. When Neden drew another arrow, Rosie knew what it meant, but didn’t react, hoping the hunter would be too focused on her to notice Neden. And the plan worked as the arrow hit home and a body hit the ground just behind Rosie.

Neden began to make her way over to Rosie, and they met halfway. She just nodded as Neden asked if she was okay and said they’d explain everything. “Neden, it’s fine. I don’t blame you for leaving after that. A lot of people were
unhappy about it,” she said. She knew of at least two people who had just burned the letters. “But that’s not a conversation for now. I know the spriggans, the druids, the dryads, lycans, and some of the vampires are also covering the woods, and I think you’re best suited to staying in town. Help me keep a control on things. I’ll deal with Travis later, but
I never even considered not trusting you,” she said.

She was about to suggest they found some more hunters to deal with, when she heard somebody calling her name. She turned, already fearing the worst, and saw Evelyn practically sprinting towards her, somebody slung over her shoulder. Evelyn was covered in blood, but it was the tear in her shirt that alarmed Rosie the most.

“It’s Travis, I
” Evelyn had to take a minute to compose herself, and she wasn’t meeting Rosie’s eyes. Rosie’s stomach twisted more painfully than she was willing to admit. “I was hurt, and
 Travis suggested I
feed to try and speed up my healing because the knife was coated in some shit to slow it down. Except
I think I overdid it? He passed out but I think he’s still breathing?” She said, her voice shaky.

Rosie sighed heavily, running a hand through her hair. “Okay. Right. We need to get him to safety, we’re all at risk if we’re protecting a casualty. Neden, come with me, I could do with some expertise and you’re the best I’ve got at the minute. Evelyn, can you carry him back to mine with me?” She asked, and the vampire nodded. “Okay. Let’s go before they decide to try ambushing us.”

they love you so muchxxx outfit | #005555 xxx that you won't regret it

Hayden just smiled at Kay as she nodded in response to his instructions, and they began to make their way through town. They darted down alleyways and tried to avoid the worst of the fighting. They were so nearly home when the hunters rounded the corner and stared at them. Turning back around would probably just mean they ran straight into trouble again.

“Kay, you need to go!” He yelled. But she was frozen, staring at them, and he grabbed her arms, forcing her to look at him. “Run, don’t come back! I’ll be right behind you, okay?” he said. He sighed with relief as she turned and ran, and he turned to the nearest hunter. He slashed at one with the knife, but the hunter just laughed. The laugh died as Hayden lunged forward and drove the knife into the man’s stomach. Hayden didn’t waste any time, turning around to deal with the next.

At first, he thought the small figure that launched itself at one of the hunters was some sort of fairy, until he recognised the voice. And despite the concern and the fear, he smiled for a brief moment until the hunter pinned her against the wall. Taking advantage of his distraction, one of the hunters managed to land a punch into Hayden’s face, and the two left standing began to circle around him. Hayden glanced at Kay, and knew instinctively what he had to do. He shoved up his sleeve and found the symbol he was looking for, tracing it with the knife, just hard enough to draw blood. He could feel the power welling up, waiting to be released. He lunged forward and grabbed Kay’s arm, before releasing the power in a blast, knocking the hunters away from them. The rest of the power settled in a protective shield around the two of them, but he could already feel the strain on his energy. “Come on, we need to go!” He said, grabbing her arm and beginning to run again.
