Full Name: Sidonia Solloway
Preferred Name:People only ever know her as Sid
Story Character: The Nightingale; from the Emperor's Nightingale.
Age: 24
Gender: Female
Face Claim: Lights Poxleitner

Sid's main ability it her voice, specifically when she sings. Her voice so beautiful and enchanting it amazes all who hear it, touching their hearts. A sad song sung by Sid will make the toughest of men weep and create sadness in their heart. A happy song, will have even the most stiff-lipped of people dancing around like drunken fools. It is more than just a marvel to be heard though, her voice is magic itself, it chases away evil spirits and illness. People who hear her sing are temporarily cured of ill luck, and malicious spirits. Most importantly though, anyone who listens to Sid sing cannot die.

People who here Sid sing are only saved from imminent death. Sid's magic doesn't work to prevent death, only save people on their death bed. Also the good luck bestowed upon people who hear her sing, as well as the protection from evil spirits is only temporary. For one to have permanent luck and protection they would need to hear Sid sing regularly.

The biggest limitation of Sid's power though, is as a Nightingale, she is no longer considered an individual with free will and is magically bound to a master. Much in the way genie's have masters. She is forced to stay with her master and sing on command, much like a bird in a cage, only her cage has no bars. The only way Sid can change masters is to be given away freely. You cannot take a nightingale by force. If Sid's master is killed she immediately becomes the property of her original master's closest relative.

The first thing anyone would think about Sid is that she is reserved. She holds back who she and what she feels, only ever showing people the real her when she is very close to them. She doesn't trust many people and finds it hard to open up. If she opens up it might destroy her. There is no brightness or light in her life, only misery, death and sadness. So she gets by, trampling all those feelings down and covering them up, pretending they don't exist, that she feels nothing. If she were to open up she'd have to bring all those feelings to surface, and actually admit the darkness eating away at her soul.

Sid is sad. She tries to keep busy but given a moment to have to think, and it gnaws at her insides. The deep sorrow inside of her caused by all the pain and suffering she has endured. When her sadness is done with her it leaves her feeling empty and numb. It makes every song she sings melancholy and dreary. She can't even fake the tiniest bit of hope, excitement or happiness. Those things left her years ago. It's not that gave up on all those things, she desperately wants to feel happy or hopeful, but she just can't. How can you be hopeful when you know the only way to regain your freedom is to die?

Sid is awkward around people. She is uncomfortable around new people, and seems to always say the wrong things. She has always been that way, even before he whole nightingale thing. Sid always wished she was better with people and was able to put them at ease, but she's just not. Preferring small group gatherings to large parties, and has always being a bit of a wall hugger at events with lots of people. Sid isn't a big people person, but she does enjoy the occasional company of a close friend.

Sid is kind hearted and humble. When Sid bumps into someone in the streets she is always the first to apologise, and she is always holding doors open for people. She may not be great around people, but small action here and there betray her inner kindness and want for people to like her. Sid is also down-to-earth, she doesn't think much of herself and even though her voice is able to quite literally cure death, she is very humble and grounded. She knows she has plenty of flaws, and is always quick to see the positives in other people rather than herself.

The Emperor of China learns that one of the most beautiful things in his empire is the song of the nightingale. When he orders the nightingale brought to him, a kitchen maid (the only one at court who knows of its whereabouts) leads the court to a nearby forest, where the nightingale agrees to appear at court, where it remains as the Emperor's favorite. When the Emperor is given a bejeweled mechanical bird he loses interest in the real nightingale, who returns to the forest. The mechanical bird eventually breaks down; and the Emperor is taken deathly ill a few years later. The real nightingale learns of the Emperor's condition and returns to the palace; whereupon Death is so moved by the nightingale's song that he allows the Emperor to live

Sid's life ended the day she turned 11. Before then she was an ordinary kid, poor, but ordinary. She wasn't what they call 'a fairytale'. She always enjoyed music, but it never returned the favour, according to anyone who had heard Sid sing she was completely tone deaf. On Sid's eleventh birthday she had been playing with some on the kids who lived on her street. They were kicking around a ball when Sid accidentally kicked it too hard it flew over the fence and into the backyard of the biggest and scariest house on the block. It look like a mini Gothic mansion and no one knew who lived there, no one ever left or entered the house. Shaking off her fear Sid climbed over the fence to retrieve their ball. When in the backyard though she couldn't help a glance towards the house and that was when she made eye contact with an elderly looking woman with raven hair. Then the woman put a gun to head and squeezed the trigger. Then Sid passed out.

When Sid regained conciousness it was night time, and Sid was lying face down in a small pool of blood. Feeling around for a wound, Sid realised that the blood had come from here nose and ears. He head pounded and she felt somehow heavier. Then she noticed the old man standing there watching her with a damp towel in his hand, that he handed her to clean herself up with. From that moment on Sid was a nightingale and this man was her new master. He was the one who explained it all to her. The woman she had seen kill herself had been Ebony and she had been his previous nightingale. When a nightingale dies their powers and position are passed on to the closest human, which for Ebony had been Sid.

So now Sid had a new life, as a caged servant to her new master. She left a note for her family and never looked back, she had no choice. As far as master's went, he hadn't been too bad, he was kind in his own way. He was just an old man terrified of death. Though because he was so old he was frequently on his death bed and required Sid to sing for him. At first Sid loved her new voice, she would sing many happy songs, cheering up all the people around her. Leaving her life behind and becoming a possession to be owned, the only thing she had left was her voice. After a few years though, the man died, he had passed away in his sleep and was dead before he could ask Sid to sing for him. Then Sid moved on to his closest relative who sold her off to the highest bidder.

After that she was passed around from person to person often for very large sums of money. Often times fight were fought and people were killed over possession of her. She was no longer a person but a prize to be one, and possession to show off. She was made to perform time and time again, whenever her masters demanded. Her life and free will stamped out of her. Each master seeming crueller than the one before.

So begins...
