Description

Lauri Grace Glynnis
Aria

Image

Age:
24

Role:
Girl 2

Power:
Lauri's power is Sound Manipulation. To put it simply, she has the ability to control and manipulate the sounds around her, making them as loud or as quiet as she wants them to. She can also make sounds appear louder to one person, but not to others, as well as making them quiet. There is also a way for her to use the sound waves from the sound to push something/someone back or cause pressure to hit an object or a person. She may not be able to create sounds herself, but she can create sound waves by building up the sounds that her body makes(heart, blood, muscles, all make sounds that usually cannot be heard) and sending them out, this usually makes a high-pitch ringing noise than can be quite painful to the ear. Although she is very skilled with her ability, when creating sound waves using her body, she cannot pinpoint a direction for the sound to go so it usually goes out in all directions, which might be a problem if one of her allies is standing nearby. Other than that, she is very talented with her ability and has a lot of control over it.

Description:
With caramel skin, sea-blue eyes, and long black hair that flows down to her hips, Lauri is quite the alluring lady. She stands 5'6" tall and weighs around 124lbs and is rarely seen wearing any make-up other than clear lip gloss. She almost always has her hair tied up(the color of the ribbon constantly changing) and rarely ever takes it down even when she's sleeping. She likes to dress in vivid, bright colored clothing and always puts a lot of thought into what she feels like wearing and is often seen wearing plenty of different colored jewelry as well.

Personality:
Lauri takes a lot of pride in being the oldest on the team, but is by far the most immature. She's like the embarrassing older sister; demanding, sarcastic, and quick to throw insults, but is also very caring and protective of her family and friends. She's loud and loves to have fun and is constantly trying to get the others to join in. She may seem a little provocative and flirty, but isn't overly 'out there' and never goes too far with it. She really enjoys picking on the others in the team, but mostly pours all of it onto [Boy 3], and will talk to him openly about pretty much anything. Being the outgoing and colorful person that she is, Lauri fully enjoys all kinds of parties as long as there is good music and plenty of alcohol, and boy is she one hell of a funny drunk. She could be considered lazy, sloppy, and slightly over-bearing, but she knows exactly when it's the right time to get serious and, even though she may act careless and rude at times, she's a very loyal friend and hates seeing others get hurt.

History:
Lauri is a full-out New Yorker, born and raised in the big city in a 3-bedroom apartment with her little brother and parents. Her mother was the owner and main chef of a small restaurant in the down-town area, so she wasn't home very often and when she was she would be filling out paperwork to keep her business in check. Her father was a professor at a university, so that didn't give him a lot of time to spend at home either, but Lauri never hated hem for it. In fact, she much enjoyed being given the responsibility of taking care of herself and also took a lot of time to help her little brother with school work and she'd do chores around the house that her mother didn't have time to do. Still, despite her mothers career, Lauri had absolutely no talent in the kitchen, so takeout was a regular dinner choice for her and her brother when their mother didn't have time to cook for them. She loved going out and having fun, but knew how to stay out of trouble with the cops and usually avoided causing any problems for her parents.

She developed her power at a very young age and, though at first she was afraid of it, she quickly trained herself to control and harness it properly so she wouldn't hurt her brother or parents in anyway. She kept it a secret for most of her life up to her early teens when she finally showed her brother(9 at the time) what she could do. This was around the time she started picking up instruments and playing them to entertain her brother and friends. Her teachers were quite impressed with her talent, but not so much with her personality and attitude. By the time she was in her senior year of high school, she'd been offered plenty of scholarships for universities, including the one her father worked at, but tuned them all down so she could stay and take care of her brother, even though he was in his early teens by then. Not long after school started, she met [Boy 3] and instantly took a liking to the shy new boy and not long after he also started to warm up to her. A few months after meeting him she was introduced to the Alphas and instantly jumped at the opportunity. After all, she'd be close to home and using her power to keep the place that her brother was growing up in safe. After three years passed her best friend[Boy 3], whom by now had told her about his abilities, also joined Alphas after she was able to convince him to do so.

Skills:
Lauri is a parkour genius; able to use just about any kind of environment to her athletic advantage using movement, flexibility, and agility. Using her athletic abilities, she's also pretty good with combat and puts a lot of effort into training(despite her complaints about it afterwards).

Surprisingly enough, Lauri is also quite skilled when it comes to sewing or designing clothes. In fact, she designed and created about 90% of her own wardrobe.

As one would expect someone who has the power of Sound Manipulation, Lauri is an exceptional musician and is very musically talented. She can play any instrument just by listening to it and rarely ever had to practice unless it is a very complex piece being played. In her room she has a piano, guitar, a flute, and her favorite being a dark red violin that she keeps on a stand in the corner of her room beside her guitar. She also has quite the beautiful voice, believe it or not.

Weaknesses:
Lauri has much difficulty controlling her ability if there are too many object creating sound around her. She might be very skilled in using her ability, but organizing and sorting out multiple sounds that are blurred together is nearly impossible even for her.

Another one of Lauri's weaknesses are definitely her friends. She's the kind of person that wouldn't hesitate for a second to push a friend or family member out of the way of a speeding car, so if they were in some sort of situation that would require her to do something risky or dangerous, she would do it.

Fears:
- Loosing someone close to her
- Being seriously injured(she may be strong, but she doesn't do very well with large amounts of pain).
- Dieing(like many, Lauri fears dieing before her life is complete).

Other:
Lauri's Hero name, Aria, generally refers to an elaborately done and beautiful song sung by a soloist in an opera, originally meaning any expressive melody, usually, but not always, performed by a singer.

Lauri also owns two pets; a pure white, male cat named mooch and a Saint Bernard named Cuddles. The cat usually stays in the bedroom since he doesn't like other people and hides if anyone other than Lauri is around, while the dog is like a giant teddy bear who loves to follow Lauri everywhere.

Rain S. Daniels

Rain waved Ron's words away. "Don't worry about it. I'd rather you were safe with me tired." She smiled, just to show him she was fine with it.

Shaking her head in answer to Ron's question, Rain opened her mouth and was about to tell him she was fine when he pushed the piece of paper into her hand. Instead of speaking, Rain shut her mouth with a snap. Why should she tell him, he was fine, anyway? Shouldn't she have the right to voice her feelings?

After Ron left, Rain sat on her bed for a full five minutes, committing the radio channel to memory. She then carefully folded the paper and placed it inside her pillowcase.

Downstairs, she watched Jasper. She seemed fine to Rain, so Rain decided it would be safe to skip asking if she needed a once over. After waving goodbye to Jasper, Ron and Arthur, Rain turned to her own team. "All right, guys! Ready to go?"

Lauri's morning started out like any other, with a tall glass of orange juice with a piece of cinnamon toast and then a small cup of coffee just before leaving the house. She naturally took the longest to be ready to leave. Since she owned so many clothes, it was hard for her to pick which ones she wanted to wear. Finally she settled with her blue jacket, shorts, tights, and a pair of black boots that kept her feet warm. Satisfied with her outfit, she finally joined the others downstairs just before they left.

On patrol, she slightly trailed behind Derek and Rain, her hands tucked into her jacket pockets and not really focusing on what she was supposed to be doing. Hearing that they'd have Christmas day off really got her excited. One of her favorite things to do was shop, especially for others. Of course she'd end up getting them all some kind of clothing, but she found it most exciting to shop for Jasper and Rain, since she had a better feel on what to buy a girl. Just before she was about to suggest that they do some Christmas shopping, she heard Ron's voice speak into her earphone and she stopped walking.

"T....This is Agent R....I've had a casualty...killed by..m-my strength, I need a clean up crew at 237 frankforth...apartment 37."

Well, that sure wasn't expected.

"What happened, Ron?"

That time it was Arthur's voice telling Ron to head back. It wasn't unusual for the Italian to sound so perfectly calm despite the current situation. He just had a knack for seriousness.

"Ron, do you need me to go over?"

She looked forward where Rain was, the healer taking her turn to speak through the radio. The atmosphere was tense for a moment, and Lauri took this opportunity to throw herself in. She put a big smile on her face and stepped forward, throwing her right arm over Rains shoulder and her left over Dereks. "C'mon kiddies, lets go get some drinks! It's still early but, as the song goes, it's five O'clock somewhere, right?!" She said cheerfully before a sudden realization hit her and she turned her head to Rain. "That's right you're still just nineteen, huh? When are you going to turn twenty one?", She smirked before finishing her last sentence, "I wanna see what kind of drunk you are. I bet you're the cutesy/shy type, or maybe the flirty type?" She let out a small chuckle before lifting her arms from both of their shoulders and taking the lead and putting her hands back into her pockets. "Let's do some Christmas shopping!" She said, slightly turning her head to look back at them.

For now, she just wanted to get the subject away from Ron's accident. It had been a really long time since he'd last had one, so Lauri guessed the boy was taking this one pretty hard. Having a bunch of people crowd around and ask questions probably wouldn't be the best treatment. "Hurry it up!"

Derek looked off into space thinking about Ron... wow. It's been too long since something like this happened... "Ron, do you need me to go over?" He heard, but it didn't register in Derek's head. He had his thoughts focused on Ron. With all this focus, he was quite startled when Lauri wrapped her arm around him. The touching... the touching was always a problem.
"C'mon kiddies, lets go get some drinks! It's still early but, as the song goes, it's five O'clock somewhere, right?!" The girl paused. "That's right you're still just nineteen, huh? When are you going to turn twenty one? I wanna see what kind of drunk you are. I bet you're the cutesy/shy type, or maybe the flirty type?"
Derek pushed Lauri away. "I uh-"
"Hurry it up!" Lauri chimed. Derek looked at her with his ever serious expression and said, "I don't drink." Derek was just really sensitive to alcohol. One sip, and he'd be totally wasted.

---

Jason smiled hearing Ria's thought in his head. The fact that it was just in his head made him feel better. He turned his thoughts back to Van. He said they had to spy on the heroes.... could he do that? Of course. He had to. It was for a better world. He looked up at Van with a determined composure. "Just tell me when to go."

Jason felt like he needed to prove himself to Van. He got the feeling that his boss didn't think to highly of him. Jason needed to become his right hand man. This was a new start for him to be more than just Jason.

He had to admit, going on patrol alone was one of the most boring things Arthur had ever done, not to mention difficult. Doing this with the others made it much less important for him to pay attention to everything, but now he had to keep his eye on anything that might look suspicious and that caused a bit of a slight throb in his temples. He'd first finished his own patrol, then Jaspers, and was about half way through Ron's when he finally decided to stop and take a breather and close his eyes for a bit. There hadn't been any news from Ron or Jasper for a few hours now, and he was starting to get a little anxious. Though, he was mostly worried about what the higher-ups would think of Ron's accident once they found out. They were already being threatened to be shut down, but so far had done a wonderful job at keeping up with the demands, but with Ron's accident..it could really leave a bad impression.

"M-make it a...sensitive clean up."

He let out a sigh. Whoever Ron accidentally killed was an innocent person, which just made things worse. Alright, enough of that, he thought to himself, bringing up his hand and lightly smacking his cheek as he opened his eyes again. He put his hand back into his jacket pocket and turned around on the sidewalk, ready to continue patrolling when Jasper suddenly latched onto him and buried her face into his chest. That was one of the last things he was expecting to happen and he was quite surprised at first, but quickly became concerned for her when he felt something wet soak through his sweater. Jasper was actually crying?

"C-can we g-g-go shopping now?"

Arthur hesitated a moment, even more concerned now that he heard the shakiness in her voice. What happened to the stubborn, strong Jasper? The only reason he could think of for why she'd get like this was if Ron did something to upset her. Arthur knew the guy would be in a shocked state right now, but to take it out on Jasper. That idiot..

Finally he was able to give her an understanding smile and he lightly hugged her. "Definitely. You've got to help me pick out a present for Ron, after all." He said before bringing his hand up to his ear. "Hey, guys, Jasper and I are going to go Christmas shopping, you might as well too. I think we've done enough patrolling for the day."

-----

They didn't spend a lot of time shopping, let alone talking, but Arthur kept up his happy act the entire time despite that. He was still furious with Ron for causing Jasper to fall into such an emotional sate, and he'd get an ear full from him the next time he'd see the guy. For now though, he tried to keep the mood as light and positive as he could, every now and then trying to reassure Jasper that Ron would be alright after h got some alone time. In the end he managed to get a gift for Ron, with the help of Jasper of course, and one for Lauri as well, though he still needed to find something for Rain and Derek.

When they got home Arthur would've cooked something up, but since he'd used up a lot of space in his brain and a head ache was already bothering him an hour before, they just brought home Chinese and he quickly headed up to his room, telling Jasper that she should get some sleep in the process. Once he was alone, his happy act quickly dropped and he found himself feeling rather frustrated that Ron still hadn't been home yet and they weren't able to get a hold of him either. If his head wasn't throbbing so horribly he probably would've waited up for him, but instead he quickly changed into boxers and a t-shirt and it didn't take long at all for him to fall asleep, tucking away Ron and Lauri's gifts before he did so.

Rain S. Daniels

Rain jumped when Lauri suddenly slung her arms around Rain's shoulders. Still slightly dazed, she listened as Lauri babbled on and on about drinking. Finally, when Lauri mentioned Christmas shopping, Rain came back to her senses. "Well, I already bought everything, so I don't really need to shop..." she said quietly, wondering how Lauri could be so happy when a death had just occurred.

Still, she managed to keep her wits about her, following Lauri and Derek around the mall. Luckily, her shopping was already finished, so not much input was expected from her. Finally, the three of them returned home. Without another word, Rain trudged to her bedroom and was sprawled on her bed without even changing. She'd think of a way to comfort Ron later, but for now, it was time to let the day's events be lost in dream.

The morning came a little later than usual for some reason, as if the alarm never actually went off. When Lauri realized that she'd slept in an hour pass the time the alarm would've originally gone off, she was pretty surprised. Even though she did always use her power to turn it off the moment it came on, she'd never slept any later than a few minutes afterwards. This time she was never even woken up. She sat at the foot of her bed and spent about twenty minutes brushing through her hair before putting it back up into a piggy tail and tying a dark blue ribbon around it as she went over the events of the day before. She'd gone shopping with Derek and Rain and managed to buy Arhur, Ron, and Jasper each a gift along with buying herself a few new pieces of jewelry. She'd already wrapped up the gifts and slid them under her bed before she ate and went to sleep. As far as she knew Ron still hadn't come home yet, so she hoped he'd be back this morning.

As usual, she went downstairs in her PJ's, a small spaghetti-strapped, light blue top and equally small matching shorts with pink lining. Once she got downstairs, she entered the kitchen and stopped to wave to Rain as she opened the refrigerator. "Good morning!" She said with a smile as she peered into the fridge, only to have her smile instantly vanish. She wasn't exactly planning on drinking in the morning, but that didn't mean she didn't check to make sure her afternoon beverage wasn't there. The entire thing was gone! "W-who....grr" She straightened up, clutching the handle of the refrigerator tightly as she lightly slammed it. Arthur doesn't even like the smell of beer, Rain was under age, Derek doesn't drink, Lauri definitely didn't drink it all. The only two who could've possibly stolen it would be Jasper or Ron, and what better therapy was there after accidentally killing someone? She turned away from Rain without another word and was about to yell for Ron as she left the kitchen when she spotted him in the living room. She stopped abruptly when she figured out he was trying to wake up the sleeping Jasper and her eyes softened. Maybe she'd let things settle a little before killing him.

She turned around and decided to go the opposite direction. She was able to catch a glance of Arthur going downstairs so she followed him and found him eating his breakfast at one of the tables below. Putting on a pouting face, she walked up behind him and threw her arms around his neck, dropping to her knees behind the chair and practically hanging off of him as she pressed her cheek against the left side of his head. "Arrrthuurrrr....Ron stole my beeeeerrr..go buy me some, go buy me some, go buy me soommeee!" She begged playfully, though she was being a little serious as well. "Please, please...I'm too tired..go buy me some!" She continued, slightly shaking her arms.

Arthur was satisfied with Ron's answer, though he could tell he wanted to say something more. Either way, at least he admitted the way he reacted yesterday wasn't right, or at least that's what Arthur got out of Ron's answer. He gave Rain a small smile once more before taking his leave and going downstairs with his breakfast. He knew his little lecture wouldn't have the effect he wanted it to, but he had to say something. He decided he would forgive Ron a little bit since the guy agreed to apologize to Jasper, but only just a little. He barely felt any remorse for the words he spoke, something had to be said about Ron's actions and Arthur wasn't finished yet, but he'd cut the guy some slack for now.

He sat in the middle of the room where a table of petrified wood stood with a few chairs around it. Taking a seat, he propped his legs up on the table and held up the bowl. He dipped the spoon in and pulled it up to his mouth, ready to take a bite only to suddenly feel something run into his back. The spoon slipped from his finger and landed in the bowl as he jerked forward slightly from whoever it was who wrapped their arms around him.

"Arrrthuurrrr....Ron stole my beeeeerrr..go buy me some, go buy me some, go buy me soommeee!"

Should've known..

"I'm eating right now." He replied, turning his head a little to look at her, though he couldn't turn it much since her cheek was pressed against his.

"Please, please...I'm too tired..go buy me some!"

She started to shake him a little and he leaned forward, taking his feet of the table and placing them on the floor so he wouldn't fall backwards, though Lauri continued to hang off of him. "Stop begging! You sound like a little kid, aren't you supposed to be the oldest here? And you know I can't drive, do you expect me to walk? Plus, you don't even need to be drinking that stuff, don't you know it damages dendrites in your brain? It's not exactly the healthiest thing to be drinking in the morning, or ever." He was giving her the same lecture every time she mentioned wanting alcohol to him, but maybe he repeated himself so much thinking that perhaps one day it will actually get through to her. Fat chance.

Lauri stared at him with a bored expression on her face as she listened to him give her a reply she's heard too many times to count. As he finished his last sentence she let out a groan and stood up. She walked around the the front of the chair and stood in front of Arthur for a moment, giving him a sad look and then slightly leaning forward and placing her hands on his shoulders. "I'll drive but I don't want to go alone! Pleaaseee?" She begged again, shaking his shoulders a little as she did so before straightening out and placing one hand on her hip.

"Then you can help me pick out Christmas presents for Derek and Rain, and you'll be able to get Ron and your girlfriend a gift too! How about that? Let's not patrol today and let's just take a break!" She said with an enthusiastic smile before picking up the spoon in Arthurs cereal bowl and taking a large bite of his cinnamon toast crunch and then putting the spoon back into the bowl and walking away. "I'm going to get dressed! Hurry up and eat so we can go!" She called back to him as she hurried up the stairs, disappearing before her friend could argue back. She hurried up to her room, spending about twenty minutes picking out something to wear. In the end she put on a thick, light purple sweater and a hot pink jacket over top along with a thin, tan scarf she simply threw over her shoulders. For bottoms she put on a pair of mint green shorts and thick, black tights with a pair of tan boots, folding the tops over so the cotton would show. Lastly, she replaced the dark blue ribbon around her pony tail with a dark green one before grabbing her bag and finally heading downstairs.

Arthur stared up at Lauri blankly when she walked around and placed her hand son his shoulders, this time she asked him to come with her. He held his bowl steady while she gave his shoulders a few small shakes and he closed his eyes for a couple of moments until she stopped. This was definitely unnecessary for his brain to take in.

"I told you I'm eati--"

"Then you can help me pick out Christmas presents for Derek and Rain, and you'll be able to get Ron and your girlfriend a gift too! How about that? Let's not patrol today and let's just take a break!"

His eyes snapped open and he felt his face turn hot and he glared up at her nervously. "Jasper isn't my girlfre--!" He cut off as he watched the metal spoon be lifted from his bowl and Lauri stole a bite of his breakfast. "That's mine!" He said, but she was already walking away from him with a pleased smile. His eyes followed her with an excruciating death glare which, as usual, she paid absolutely no attention to.

"I'm going to get dressed! Hurry up and eat so we can go!"

She's not going to let me refuse is she... He thought to himself matter-of-factly as he watched his friend go upstairs. He relaxed a little and turned back to his food, suddenly loosing his appetite. Not because Lauri had taken a bite with his spoon, they shared food like that all the time, it was mostly because her shaking him caused him to get a little dizzy. "Cavolo..", he mumbled, letting out a sigh and standing up. He headed back upstairs and dumped his bowl into the sink and, after washing his dishes, he dried them off and put them away in their rightful places before also heading upstairs to get dressed and take his medication.

He kept his black slacks but changed into a white, long-sleeved shirt with a thicker, light blue sweater over top along with a dark red bandana scarf that hung loosely around his neck. He put on the same shoes he had on the day before and then made his way downstairs to the living room to find that Lauri wasn't down yet and it looked like Jasper wasn't in the living room anymore, which would explain the awkward scene he'd just witnessed. Ron and Rain had just finished kissing each other only a couple of seconds after Ron got to the bottom of the stairs and turned to enter the living room. It wasn't surprising judging by what he saw the two doing earlier, but really? This was the second time now he'd come in at a private time!

"You two are extra lovey dovey this morning, aren't you?" He purred, walking in with a sweet smile. "Lauri and I are going out for a bit to go Christmas shopping. I'd ask if you'd want to come but we both still need to get Rain a gift and, well, you seem pretty happy with your position at the moment." He glanced over at Ron with a hinting smile as he said that last part. Arthur was back to his old self, clear that he wanted to move on from the tense atmosphere before when he gave Ron his lecture.

A few moments later Lauri finally came downstairs and Arthur slid his fingers into his pants pockets and looked over to her. "Ready to go?"

(Man..I just have bad timing don't I...)

Lauri jumped down off the last step as she heard Arthur ask if she was ready to go. "Yup! How do I look? Stylish as usual, or course. Why do I even have to ask?" She beamed, walking up to him and lightly slapping him one on the back. "Let's head!" She said, ready to make her way downstairs. As usual, she drove and Arthur sat quietly in the back. Going on drives with him was always quiet since he got sick so easily. She felt kind of bad for him, but she was so used to seeing him like this while in any type of transportation that it was perfectly natural having such a quiet drive. When they were going to high school, he always had to walk to school and he couldn't even go on field trips because of his ability so he wasn't very involved in school even though he had practically perfect grades. Even so, she managed to get the shy little Italian boy that he used to be to open up and turn him into her now best friend. She was older than him by three years, but she still loved the guy like a brother.

All the small parking areas near the shopping district were packed, so she had to find a parking spot a couple miles away, but Arthur probably preferred it that way. At least he wouldn't have to be in the car any longer. She walked next to him, her hands in her pockets and a little smile on her face. Christmas wasn't very far away at all, perhaps a few weeks. Soon enough there would be decorative lights hung up everywhere. Every year, she usually would bring her little brother out and go for a walk under the lights just for walking's sake, but it had been a while since she'd had any time off. This year she'd definitely visit him, and maybe even bring him to the headquarters to hang out for a little while. He'd probably love how big the place is. While she was thinking about him, she didn't realize her sight smile had turned into a small frown and she'd started looking at the ground. Arthur's family didn't even live here anymore, and even back in high school he'd rarely ever talk about them. Would he miss spending Christmas with them now that they actually had the holiday off? She knew that he never got along with his family, but wasn't he even a little curious as to how they've been doing lately?

She glanced over at her friend, or more like up at him. In high school he was always so short, but now he was four inches taller than her. Time really does fly so fast. She hesitated a moment before clearing her throat and stopped in the middle of the sidewalk. "Hey Arthur.." She said, looking at him with slightly furrowed eyebrows, "It's been a while..since you've talked to your family. Christmas will be here soon, maybe you should wish them a happy holiday, don't you think? I haven't even seen you call them once since you joined the Alphas three years ago, don't you think it's about time?"

It was dark with the palms of his hands pressed to his face and covering his closed eyes. He felt bad about not being able to make any conversation with Lauri during the drive, but he also knew that she was perfectly okay with it. He was relieved once she finally found a parking spot and had absolutely no problem with the fact that it was two miles from the shopping district. Arthur would walk everywhere if he could, but even that would cause him to get a head ache sooner or later. It was nice just going for a walk with Lauri, though he was starting to wish that he'd also put a jacket on. He had his fingers tucked tightly into his pants pockets and after getting out of the car he tightened the scarf around his neck.

Suddenly Lauri vanished from beside him and he stopped a couple of feet in front of her and turned himself sideways to look back at her. "Why'd you stop?", he asked, taking his right hand out of his pocket and letting it fall to his side.

"Hey Arthur.."

What's with that tone?

"..Sì?"

"It's been a while..since you've talked to your family.

Arthurs eyes widened for a split second before they narrowed a little and he looked down at the sidewalk in front of him as she continued talking. Of all times, why did she have to bring that subject up now?

"Christmas will be here soon, maybe you should wish them a happy holiday, don't you think? I haven't even seen you call them once since you joined the Alphas three years ago, don't you think it's about time?"

His clutched his right hand into a fist, wishing he didn't have to answer. He hadn't thought about his family even once since he left that day. He'd practically forgot about them, and then Lauri had to go and bring them up. He knew she was just worried about him, but she shouldn't be. She got along with her family so well, which is why she wouldn't understand. He took in a small breath before looking back over to her with a forced smile, one she'd most likely detect. "I guess maybe it is.." He answered dryly, then turned to face her fully. "What about your brother? Are you planning on buying your family some gifts this year too? I wonder if the high-ups would let your family come visit the headquarters. Japser has a mom too, right? Maybe the others relatives could visit too." He turned back to the side, preparing to continue walking. "What kind of stuff does your brother like? We could buy some games to play when he comes to visit..We need to figure out what we're going to cook for dinner too.."

It was way too obvious that he was lying when Arthur replied that maybe it was time to call his family. Not only did he force his smile, but his tone of voice was dull and he instantly steered away from the topic right afterwards when he started talking about Lauri's own family and what they could do for Christmas. Was it really so difficult for him to pick up the phone just to say Merry Christmas? He didn't even have to stay on very long!

"We could buy some games to play when he comes to visit..We need to figure out what we're going to cook for dinner too.."

She shook her head and stomped up to him. "Don't change the subject! I'm being serious! You really need to call them. Whether you don't get along with them or not, they're still your family and Christmas is a holiday where friends and family should get along. Listen pasta eater, you're calling them tomorrow got it? I'll stand right there too to make sure you do." She said, glaring up at him for a few seconds before smiling and walking passed him. "It's either that or I'll devise an evil plan to make you and Ron somehow end up standing under the mistletoe together and you'll be forced to kiss! I'll take a picture of it too! I'll also take back your gift and buy you a moped that you'll never be able to drive and I'll sneak into you room and make Cuddles pee on you for the next three weeks and I'll blast the alarm in your ears every morning for a month."

She stopped after walking about five feet in front of him and slightly turned, giving him a challenging smirk.

"Capisce?"

She then spun back around and slid her hands back into her jacket pockets as she continued on. "Now let's get going carrot-top."

"Don't change the subject! I'm being serious!"

He turned his head to her and let out a sigh as she walked up to him, though he kept his eyes over to the side. He was aware that she was glaring at him, but didn't actually want to see it.

"You really need to call them. Whether you don't get along with them or not, they're still your family and Christmas is a holiday where friends and family should get along. Listen pasta eater, you're calling them tomorrow got it? I'll stand right there too to make sure you do."

"Wha- Pasta Eater?!"

Lauri was evil! Pure evil! Would she really be capable of doing all that? Arthur wouldn't put it past her. That girl could be extremely persuasive when she wanted to be. Even so, he still didn't think calling his family would be a wise choice. Nothing could possibly bring him and his family back together. Lauri wasn't present the day he left, so she wouldn't know the words that were exchanged between him and his family that day, and he preferred it to stay that way.

"Capisce? Now let's get going carrot-top."

"You sound funny using Italian words, and my hair is red not orange! Also, just because I'm Italian doesn't mean I eat pasta all the time!" He said, crossing his arms over his chest and speed walking a little until he caught up to her. "Plus, I don't even understand the whole 'carrot top' thing. The top of the carrot is green, and the bottom of the carrot is orange. I suppose calling someone 'carrot-bottom' might be a little awkward though." He probably could've gone on a lot longer with that topic, but decided not to ramble. He hesitated a moment, glancing over at her a couple of times before letting a small sigh. "I...I guess I could try calling them tomorrow...But I'm only going to try once! If they don't answer then I'm not going to call again, alright?"

(I'll pm Sukai about her next post getting their shopping thing over. I didn't want to make this one too long.)

"I...I guess I could try calling them tomorrow...But I'm only going to try once! If they don't answer then I'm not going to call again, alright?"

Lauri glanced over at her friend with a pleased smile. "Alright, but I'm going to be there when you call so I know whether or not they actually picked up. No calling and hanging up mid call and then saying they didn't answer." She could tell he wasn't happy with the decision Lauri was making him take, but it was for his own good. He couldn't keep hiding from it.

For the rest of the morning Lauri didn't bring up Arthur calling his family again. That discussion was long and over with and she was happy with his answer, so there was no need to drag it out. They spent most of their time just talking about high school days and all the trouble she used to get Arthur into as they hopped from shop to shop and she forced him to try on different clothes as well as picking out a few things herself to try on. It was fun again, almost like the events of the day before never happened. All of it was kind of nostalgic in a way, and Lauri sort of missed the days that were spent between the two before they joined the Alphas. Arthur was more dear to her than a friend, yet not exactly in an intimate way. She had to admit, maybe she had those kinds of feelings for him back in high school, but now she had her sights set on someone else' there shy yet sweet Derek.

In all honesty, she couldn't remember exactly what it was that made her start to have feelings for him. Usually she preferred the 'bad biker-boy' kinds of guys. Those kinds of trouble-making relationships just excited her, but Derek definitely wasn't that kind of personality. No, he was completely different from what would usually catch her eye. Maybe his quietness just made her feel more peaceful and relaxed as usual. Though, she wasn't entirely sure how she could approach a boy like that, and it frustrated her in a way. Being the outgoing person she was, she couldn't understand why she would be shy to reveal her feelings towards him.

After shopping, Lauri finally managed to get both Derek and Rain something that she hoped they would like before they stopped for lunch at a small fast-food restaurant. Of course, Layla had Arthur pay for her food, even though with the company card they could've gone to a much more expensive place and she could've payed for herself and five other people, but that wouldn't be any fun. She was happy to sit outside at the tables beside the sidewalk with a plate of two, BLT's and scoop of fries with a large coke rather than go sit inside some fancy, boring restaurant and listen to piano music.

Their shopping bags sat under the table at their feet as Lauri munched on a hot fry and watched the traffic role by.

"So, what did you get your girlfriend for Christmas? I was in the dressing room when-" She pointed down at the bag at Arthurs feet, "you got that." She stuck another fry into her mouth and looked at her friend curiously.

Rain S. Daniels

Rain couldn't have spent a better day. She had secretly made a list of the presents she wanted to give everyone. It was only a matter of finding the proper ones. Of course, she didn't let Ron see the list or what she'd bought. She wanted every present she gave to be a surprise.

For Derek, she bought a few boxes of Christmas cookies, knowing he would enjoy that. For Arthur, she'd asked an assistant at the music store to help her compile a CD of soothing classical music, knowing that it would help soothe his frequent headaches. Jasper had a similar gift, an MP3 with a playlist Rain had compiled with Jasper's favourite songs. She didn't know anything about liquor, but with a little help from the shop assistant, she'd selected a bottle of whiskey for Lauri.

Ron's present was the hardest to get by far. It hadn't been easy shaking Ron off, but she'd finally escaped his watchful eyes. While he was in the toilet, she'd quickly purchased a watch and managed to slip it into her bag before he returned. Rain tried to be discreet about it, not wanting to show Ron his present before it was time to open it. Luckily, she'd already gotten everything wrapped, including the watch, so Ron hadn't a chance of seeing the presents in her bag.

Later, at lunch, Rain sat at the patio of the quaint cafe they'd gone to, staring blissfully at the scene of others bustling around shopping. She caught Ron staring at her and felt her cheeks and the area above her ears heat up. "I honestly can't tell you how great today was, you made it pretty nice too," he commented. Rain nodded. "Yeah. Thanks for a nice afternoon. And lunch." She smiled.

Arthur didn't have much of a choice but to agree with Lauri's condition of her being there when he called his family. It drew a depressed sigh out of him, but it's not like he could refuse. Even if he did, she'd just listen in on the conversation anyway using her power. Her ability to eavesdrop really was superb. At least for the rest of the day she didn't bring it up again, which was relieving enough. Being able to just go out and enjoy the morning with her was a nice change for once. He couldn't remember the last time it had been just her and himself out goofing around, trying on clothes and laughing at how foolish they looked in some of the stuff they picked out for each other. The entire time he acted like it was annoying, but he knew Lauri could see passed that facade and was really having fun with it. It was too bad that he could've invited Jasper to come with them, but he had to buy her a gift so he couldn't have her there.

At the fast food restaurant, Arthur simply ordered a grilled-cheese sandwich with large fries and a sprite. Once again, something he missed doing with Lauri when they were still in high school, except for the buying part. Well, he kind of understood it back then because he was payed a weekly allowance of sixty dollars while Lauri didn't have as much, but now they both could afford practically anything, so he wasn't entirely sure why he had to pay for her lunch. Then again, maybe she was remembering the past too.

"So, what did you get your girlfriend for Christmas? I was in the dressing room when you got that."

He stopped mid-way of taking a bite of his sandwich, closing his mouth and looking at her with a slightly annoyed expression, though the annoyance was mostly used to cover up his nervousness. "I told you, Jasper is not my girlfriend!" He said quickly, then letting out a small sigh and setting his food back on the tray in front of him. "I got it when we were in that antique shop and you were trying on that weird dress."

Leaning down, he picked up a medium-sized, light blue bag and then straightened up and set it on his lap for a moment while he spent a few seconds digging through the white paper tissue before pulling out a small object wrapped in brown paper. "I saw it hanging up near the cash register, but I wasn't really sure if it was something Jasper would like or not.", he said, unwrapping the brown paper and revealing a small necklace with a copper chain. He reached out his hand a little, holding the pendant over the table so that Lauri could see it. "It's not a big diamond or anything, but what do you think?"

Lauri giggled at Arthur's reply to her calling Jasper his 'girlfriend'. She actually refereed to her by that name often when mentioning her to Arthur. It was just amusing to watch him try to cover up his nervousness. Too bad he was such a professional at keeping his blush from showing. Personally she always thought he was adorable when he blushed, and it made it easier to tease him about it too.

"I got it when we were in that antique shop and you were trying on that weird dress."

"Oh yeah?", she said before picking up her drink and sipping on the straw. She continued to drink for a while as she watched him spend some time unwrapping whatever he'd bought. She set the drink back on the table and began munching on her fries when he finished removing the brown paper and he held the gift he'd unwrapped over the table.

"It's not a big diamond or anything, but what do you think?"

She leaned forward a little until her face was only a few inches away from the little trinket that hung from the chain. Maybe it wasn't a sparkly diamond, but it was still pretty, though a more proper word would be 'cute'. Instead of it being a jewel of some kind, the background was a sewn purple cloth and there were clear beads sewn in with white thread around the top which made up the leaves of the threaded tree. "Yeah, I like it. Not something I'd wear, but it's for Jasper not me." She then leaned back a few inches and gave Arthur a smirk. "But, I bet it was cheap, wasn't it?" She leaned back in her chair and waved her finger. "Got all that money and you but her a two dollar gift? Shame on you!" She joked with a light, teasing tone.

"Yeah, I like it. Not something I'd wear, but it's for Jasper not me."

Arthur let out a sigh of relief and brought back his hand, ready to put the pendant back away.

"But, I bet it was cheap, wasn't it?"

She leaned back and waved her finger at him as his feeling of relief became jumbled.

"Got all that money and you but her a two dollar gift? Shame on you!"

"Eh, well, I'm going to get her a more expensive gift, of course!" He snapped quickly in reply. Lauri was joking, but he took her opinion seriously. True, the pendant that he bought was only about three dollars, but the price wasn't always what was important, right? While growing up, all he had to do was ask for money and his parents would hand it to him without a care. Even so, he never really put a lot of thought into why money was so important. While that changed quite a bit as he got older, he still didn't care much for money. Or maybe it was more like he'd never been in a situation where money was an issue. The moment he left home he was instantly put in as one of the Alphas and given a home, food, and plenty of money. But just because he had all that money didn't mean spending it to his hearts content was the first thing on his mind.

"The price doesn't even matter." He said firmly, replacing the necklace back in its rightful place and setting the bag at his feet. He quickly picked up his sandwich and began eating it, but thanks to the winter weather it had already began to go cold and eating cold food that is meant to be warm kind of caused him to loose his appetite a little. "What are we going to do for the rest of the day? Should we just head back?", He asked, wanting to change the subject.

Lauri chuckles at her friend's rushed reply. Just the reaction she was expecting from him. Lauri knew how much he liked Jasper, which made teasing him about her all the more entertaining.

"The price doesn't even matter."

"Calm down, Mr. Serious.", she said, deepening her voice in a dramatic way and making a pouty face at him before letting out a small laugh and picking up her BLT. It only took her maybe five minutes to finish the first one, but the second one was proving more challenging. When she was a young teenager she could finish four of them down without a problem, but now just eating one would fill her up. In fact, she used to eat a lot when she was a preteen, but now she could only manage lunch and dinner and rarely breakfast. Now I'm making myself feel like an old lady..

"What are we going to do for the rest of the day? Should we just head back?"

She took a large bite of her second BLT, chewing it for a moment before swallowing it and taking her time to have a long sip of her soda. Arthur hadn't eaten much of his sandwich, most likely because it had gone cold. He was always such a picky eater while Lauri on the other hand didn't have a problem choosing something to eat.

She stuffed a few fries into her mouth and leaned back in her chair, crossing her arms up behind her neck and smiling after swallowing her food. "Have you already forgotten? For shame! We haven't bought my alcohol yet. So we're going to do that and then we can head ba-" Her word were cut off as someone bumped into her chair, causing her to fall forward a little with a small grunt. She turned her head, ready to curse out the idiot who decided to ram into her, but her gaze quickly softened as she realized it was just a couple of kids. A young girl and her older brother more likely, no more than six and ten. "I'm sorry, Miss! My sister didn't see you." The boy said apologetically. "Yes, sorry..", the younger girl said shyly, holding onto her brothers arm nervously.

"Don't worry about it." Lauri replied with a friendly smile, guessing they'd caught a glimpse of her menacing glare before she bounced back to her nice self. "Just be more careful running around like that."

The boy nodded at her, nudging his sister along with a comforting smile as they continued their game of tag. "Wonder where their parents are, letting a couple of kids go off alone like that.." Lauri said with a frown, looking over to Arthur when she suddenly she noticed the two children were heading across the street and she watched at the little boy went back for his sisters purse just as the light turned green. "Arthur!!" She said loudly, jumping from her seat and letting the chair fall over behind her as she pushed away from the table, her shoes slamming onto the cement just as a truck sped passed her.

Arthur watched her with a dull expression as Lauri took her sweet time answering his question. She was probably purposely doing it to agitate him, though she probably also knew that he was done with his food and wanted to get going and she needed to hurry up and eat. Finally she leaned back in her chair, chewing on some french fries before at last answering him. And the moment she mentioned still having to get alcohol he readied himself to stand up and throw his food away when her sentence was unexpectedly cut off.

A couple of young children had bumped into her chair while running after each other. Why they were alone wasn't really the first though that came to mind as they quickly apologized and then left.

"Wonder where their parents are, letting a couple of kids go off alone like that.."

He sighed and shrugged, standing up and picking up his plate. "Who knows." He said simply, turning towards the restaurant entrance and tossing his food into the trash. He watched the two kids make their way over the civilian crossing, about to turn back to the table to throw away his drink when he noticed something fall from the little girls arm and land on the pavement. It only took him a second to figure out it was a small children's purse before watching the boy who was probably the little girls brother run back for it. The red light flashed green and he heard Lauri yell his name, but he was already on his way down the sidewalk a good four to five feet ahead of her and doing a fair job at not bumping into anyone. He took a sharp turn at the corner, his shoe sliding a couple inches on the cement but he kept his balance as he leaped out into the street.

The moment passed by in a flash, a truck horn flaring and a few worried yelps from the audience. Once the truck passed, those on the side Arthur leaped from could see the him lying on his side on the sidewalk with his eyes closed, holding a shaking boy against him. The red-head opened his eyes and lay still for a moment before letting out a rough sigh and forcing himself to sit up. "Dumb kid.", He scoffed, taking in a breath and releasing his arms. The poor boy had the most terrified look on his face and Arthur couldn't help but feel a little bad for scolding him. "Didn't my friend just tell you to be careful running around? Are you hurt at all?"

The boy shook his head, but Arthur couldn't really say the same for himself. He'd slammed his side quite hard onto the cement sidewalk and he could feel that his right arm and most likely his right side were going to be bruised for a while, not to mention the cloth on his shoulder had ripped and most of the skin looked to be scraped, but it wasn't anything serious. The only thing that mattered at the moment was that the boy wasn't hurt. Arthur pushed himself up off the sidewalk, wincing a little at the pain in his arm and side, but ignoring it the best he could as he took on a mostly straight stance and looked over to Lauri across the street. "I got him.", he called to her, managing to give her a smile and a thumbs up with his left hand.

The horn of the truck went off, blaring down the street. Lauri's heart lurched the moment she watched Arthur disappear from the sidewalk in front of her and leap out in front of the speeding truck. After it passed, not even bothering to stop and apologize or even yell at them to watch out, Lauri stood frozen on the corner, her eyes searching to see if her friend was alright. Then she spotted him on the other side, struggling to sit up and saying something to the boy before slowly standing up and giving her a thumbs up. She forcefully calmed her pounding heart and soaked up the relief that swept over her, grateful to see her friend still being himself after coming uncomfortably close to death or an extremely painful and most likely permanent injury.

"I got him."

Lauri sighed, running her fingers through her bangs once to try and relax before crossing the street after the light turned green. She leaned over and softly set her hand on top of the smaller boys head, giving him a comforting smile. "You're lucky, little dude.", she said just as the boys sister ran up to him and wrapped her arms around him. "Does anyone know whose kids these are?" She said loudly, straightening up and looking around at the crowd that had stood around them watching.

"They're mine!" A woman said, her voice cracking with worry. She emerged from the crowd and dropped on her knees in front of the two of them, giving them a tight hug and making an attempt to hold back her relieved tears. "Thank you so much, thank you. I'm so sorry, please tell me how I can repay you."

"No need for that, it's fine. Just glad they're okay." She said with a smile before giving the woman a more serious look. "Make sure you watch them better next time, though. It's not safe for a couple of kids to be running around by themselves."

She then turned to Arthur and stuffed her hands into her pockets. "We can get my drinks later, let's head back to base and get you some ice, Mr. Hero. You look like your in a little pain there, haha..." She gave a small wave to the mother and two children before turning away and heading back towards home, though keeping her pace a little slower than usual so Arthur wouldn't have to force himself to catch up.

Arthur was glad to see that the children's mother had found them, however he was a little disappointed that she'd let them run off alone. Then again, mistakes can happen and the kids very well might've run off while she was occupied with something. Even so, hopefully now the woman would keep a better eye on the two of them.

"Thank you so much, thank you. I'm so sorry, please tell me how I can repay you."

"No need for that, it's fine. Just glad they're okay. Make sure you watch them better next time, though. It's not safe for a couple of kids to be running around by themselves."

He glanced down at his friend with a soft smile, letting her take over the situation. Lauri was one of the childish, most immature people he had ever met and she was always so annoying and irrational back in high school, but even she had her responsible moment. Come to think of it, he couldn't really figure out how someone like himself and someone like Lauri could become so close. Even now she still annoyed him and frustrated him, but somehow he loved her that way despite how often he acted like he didn't care for her. In fact a lot of people wondered how these two ended up becoming best friends..family even.

Opposites attract, right?

"We can get my drinks later, let's head back to base and get you some ice, Mr. Hero. You look like your in a little pain there, haha..."

Arthur gave her an awkward smile. "Yeah, that sounds like a good idea.", he said as she waved to the children before turning away and walking in the opposite direction. He followed her with his hands in his jean pockets, trying not to cause her to slow down too much. "Do you think Ron and Rain are back at HQ yet? I might need Rain to check up on me. I've had worse but just in case." He said with his usual light smile as they walked. As required when they left the house, Arthur carried his communicator with him and figured maybe Ron or Rain would've brought theirs with too. So, lifting his left hand up to his ear, he let them know they were on their way back.

"Ehi, whoever is listening, is Rain back at base yet? I'd appreciate it if she could look me over quick once Lauri and I get back. We should be home soon."
