Rain S. Daniels

Rain shoved Ron's shoulder playfully. "Don't get any ideas." "You know I should really go check on them." Ron told her. She pressed her lips together, remembering how it'd felt that morning when Arthur walked in on them. "No, you really shouldn't," she told him wisely.

Getting up, she pulled her sweater off, then draped it over her chair. Then she opened the closet and carefully stacked the wrapped presents inside, hiding them from Ron's view so he wouldn't guess what the packages contained.

"Do you know that you are so beautiful?" Ron's words broke into her thoughts. Rain stopped and turned. "No one's ever told me that," she said softly. "Thank you."

He smiled and got up as he walked behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist. "Well you're going to be hearing it a lot more often." He said looking down on her with his big smile. He let go of her and headed for the door, "Don't worry, I'm going to take a shower." He said as he looked back at her, then walking off into the hall. "A shower that's big enough to fit more than one person!" He yelled back with a chuckle as he went into his room.

Once in the shower and under the water, he had to catch his breath. The past two days had been some of the most eventful days in his life. He'd killed a man, him and Rain were together, and now he was going to be a father. Everything was happening so fast, he wiped his face and stared at the wall. "What am I doing?" He thought as he shook it off and started soaping himself up.

After the shower he got dressed in some sweat pants and a black T-shirt as he threw himself onto his bed, looking up at the ceiling. His mind was racing a mile a minute but yet, he was so calm, so very calm. He just laid there, thinking.

Lauri chuckles at her friend's rushed reply. Just the reaction she was expecting from him. Lauri knew how much he liked Jasper, which made teasing him about her all the more entertaining.

"The price doesn't even matter."

"Calm down, Mr. Serious.", she said, deepening her voice in a dramatic way and making a pouty face at him before letting out a small laugh and picking up her BLT. It only took her maybe five minutes to finish the first one, but the second one was proving more challenging. When she was a young teenager she could finish four of them down without a problem, but now just eating one would fill her up. In fact, she used to eat a lot when she was a preteen, but now she could only manage lunch and dinner and rarely breakfast. Now I'm making myself feel like an old lady..

"What are we going to do for the rest of the day? Should we just head back?"

She took a large bite of her second BLT, chewing it for a moment before swallowing it and taking her time to have a long sip of her soda. Arthur hadn't eaten much of his sandwich, most likely because it had gone cold. He was always such a picky eater while Lauri on the other hand didn't have a problem choosing something to eat.

She stuffed a few fries into her mouth and leaned back in her chair, crossing her arms up behind her neck and smiling after swallowing her food. "Have you already forgotten? For shame! We haven't bought my alcohol yet. So we're going to do that and then we can head ba-" Her word were cut off as someone bumped into her chair, causing her to fall forward a little with a small grunt. She turned her head, ready to curse out the idiot who decided to ram into her, but her gaze quickly softened as she realized it was just a couple of kids. A young girl and her older brother more likely, no more than six and ten. "I'm sorry, Miss! My sister didn't see you." The boy said apologetically. "Yes, sorry..", the younger girl said shyly, holding onto her brothers arm nervously.

"Don't worry about it." Lauri replied with a friendly smile, guessing they'd caught a glimpse of her menacing glare before she bounced back to her nice self. "Just be more careful running around like that."

The boy nodded at her, nudging his sister along with a comforting smile as they continued their game of tag. "Wonder where their parents are, letting a couple of kids go off alone like that.." Lauri said with a frown, looking over to Arthur when she suddenly she noticed the two children were heading across the street and she watched at the little boy went back for his sisters purse just as the light turned green. "Arthur!!" She said loudly, jumping from her seat and letting the chair fall over behind her as she pushed away from the table, her shoes slamming onto the cement just as a truck sped passed her.

Arthur watched her with a dull expression as Lauri took her sweet time answering his question. She was probably purposely doing it to agitate him, though she probably also knew that he was done with his food and wanted to get going and she needed to hurry up and eat. Finally she leaned back in her chair, chewing on some french fries before at last answering him. And the moment she mentioned still having to get alcohol he readied himself to stand up and throw his food away when her sentence was unexpectedly cut off.

A couple of young children had bumped into her chair while running after each other. Why they were alone wasn't really the first though that came to mind as they quickly apologized and then left.

"Wonder where their parents are, letting a couple of kids go off alone like that.."

He sighed and shrugged, standing up and picking up his plate. "Who knows." He said simply, turning towards the restaurant entrance and tossing his food into the trash. He watched the two kids make their way over the civilian crossing, about to turn back to the table to throw away his drink when he noticed something fall from the little girls arm and land on the pavement. It only took him a second to figure out it was a small children's purse before watching the boy who was probably the little girls brother run back for it. The red light flashed green and he heard Lauri yell his name, but he was already on his way down the sidewalk a good four to five feet ahead of her and doing a fair job at not bumping into anyone. He took a sharp turn at the corner, his shoe sliding a couple inches on the cement but he kept his balance as he leaped out into the street.

The moment passed by in a flash, a truck horn flaring and a few worried yelps from the audience. Once the truck passed, those on the side Arthur leaped from could see the him lying on his side on the sidewalk with his eyes closed, holding a shaking boy against him. The red-head opened his eyes and lay still for a moment before letting out a rough sigh and forcing himself to sit up. "Dumb kid.", He scoffed, taking in a breath and releasing his arms. The poor boy had the most terrified look on his face and Arthur couldn't help but feel a little bad for scolding him. "Didn't my friend just tell you to be careful running around? Are you hurt at all?"

The boy shook his head, but Arthur couldn't really say the same for himself. He'd slammed his side quite hard onto the cement sidewalk and he could feel that his right arm and most likely his right side were going to be bruised for a while, not to mention the cloth on his shoulder had ripped and most of the skin looked to be scraped, but it wasn't anything serious. The only thing that mattered at the moment was that the boy wasn't hurt. Arthur pushed himself up off the sidewalk, wincing a little at the pain in his arm and side, but ignoring it the best he could as he took on a mostly straight stance and looked over to Lauri across the street. "I got him.", he called to her, managing to give her a smile and a thumbs up with his left hand.

The horn of the truck went off, blaring down the street. Lauri's heart lurched the moment she watched Arthur disappear from the sidewalk in front of her and leap out in front of the speeding truck. After it passed, not even bothering to stop and apologize or even yell at them to watch out, Lauri stood frozen on the corner, her eyes searching to see if her friend was alright. Then she spotted him on the other side, struggling to sit up and saying something to the boy before slowly standing up and giving her a thumbs up. She forcefully calmed her pounding heart and soaked up the relief that swept over her, grateful to see her friend still being himself after coming uncomfortably close to death or an extremely painful and most likely permanent injury.

"I got him."

Lauri sighed, running her fingers through her bangs once to try and relax before crossing the street after the light turned green. She leaned over and softly set her hand on top of the smaller boys head, giving him a comforting smile. "You're lucky, little dude.", she said just as the boys sister ran up to him and wrapped her arms around him. "Does anyone know whose kids these are?" She said loudly, straightening up and looking around at the crowd that had stood around them watching.

"They're mine!" A woman said, her voice cracking with worry. She emerged from the crowd and dropped on her knees in front of the two of them, giving them a tight hug and making an attempt to hold back her relieved tears. "Thank you so much, thank you. I'm so sorry, please tell me how I can repay you."

"No need for that, it's fine. Just glad they're okay." She said with a smile before giving the woman a more serious look. "Make sure you watch them better next time, though. It's not safe for a couple of kids to be running around by themselves."

She then turned to Arthur and stuffed her hands into her pockets. "We can get my drinks later, let's head back to base and get you some ice, Mr. Hero. You look like your in a little pain there, haha..." She gave a small wave to the mother and two children before turning away and heading back towards home, though keeping her pace a little slower than usual so Arthur wouldn't have to force himself to catch up.

Jasper

Jasper sighed, she'd expected some sort of reaction from Derek when she hugged him. She wasn't sure what, an epiphany maybe? Maybe he'd realize that she was right and he'd hug her back and become a regular social butterfly or something, she wasn't sure. Whatever she was expecting, she was thoroughly disappointed.

He just stood there limp and quiet.

She closed her eyes and backed away from him slowly, tugging at her sleeves awkwardly, her lips twitching in a forced smile. "Well, just promise me you'll think about what I said, kay?" She muttered before turning and getting three plates and putting a slice of roll on each. "Talk to ya later."

Carefully, Jasper juggled two plates on one arm and the last on her other while clenching the handles of the forks in her teeth and made her way upstairs to where she knew Ron and Rain would be. She had noticed Ron's brief intrusion during her exchange with Derek, and she knew the couple would be thirsty for details, probably assuming her and Derek's hug was because of something more than just friendly comforting.

"Don't worry, I'm going to take a shower." Jasper heard Ron say to Rain as he stepped out into the hallway. The purple haired girl stepped carefully back so that she was hidden by the wall just beyond view from where he was standing. "A shower that's big enough to fit more than one person!" She scrunched up her nose in disgust, though she wasn't sure what she was disgusted of, surely not Ron's sense of humor with his new girlfriend? When he was in his room, and the sound of the shower was heard, she went into her room and listened to her music, the plates sitting, uneaten next to her on her bed until she heard the sound of him getting out of the shower and dressing.

She waited for a few minutes to guarantee he was finished and fully clothed before grabbing two of the three plates and forks and walked to his room, not bothering to knock before walking inside and closing the door behind her. Silent, she walked over and sat next to her friend on his bed, sticking his plate and fork on his stomach and placing hers on her lap. "How was your excursion with Rain?" Jasper began, separating a piece of the roll with her fork and impaling it before casually sticking it in her mouth.

Ron had started to drift off when he felt the plate lay on his stomach and he jumped a little. He opened his eyes and looked over to her with a smile on his face as he got a bigger one when he saw the roll on his stomach. "Jesus Jas, I'm gonna have to put some damn bells on you." He said with a chuckle as he slipped a bite in his mouth. "Well it was nice, we did some shopping and we had lunch..." He paused as the thought of Caroline came to him. For some reason he was terrified, he was so scared on how Jasper would react. For over half their lives they had been the best of friends, and that was it. There was nothing else, just to friends who might as well have been siblings going day to day. Now things were changing, and fast. So many things had happened in one week and he didn't want her to think that he didn't like things the way they were, that he wasn't satisfied with just Jasper anymore. It was a terrifying, truly terrifying thought. He put the plate down and sat up next to her, smiling at her as they sat smushed together, shoulder to shoulder. "...Jas.." He moved his hand over and held hers in his. "I'm going to have a kid.." He said as he looked up to her. He could see something growing on her and the realization hit him.
"Oh no no no no! I adopted, she's not pregnant, I mean we got powers but...ha....." He told her everything, from seeing the guy running and chasing, what he had stolen, how Ron killed him, the sweet, little angel who almost saw what he did. "I.. did this, and I'm not going to make that poor little girl grow up in a home with no one to love her." He looked up at her, meeting eyes, "And...I'd really like it if she could have a aunt to come too." He said giving her a choice. He didn't think she would say she wanted nothing to do with the kid but he expected it. He expected the worst after all he put Jasper through and would understand if she snapped. All he could do was just to hold her hand to show he cared about her and her opinion and wait for her judgment.

Rain smiled, but did not turn. She heard Ron leave her bedroom. "Don't worry, I'm going to take a shower." She nodded, unsure if he could see it. "Okay!" she yelled back. "A shower that's big enough to fit more than one person!" Rain rolled her eyes, although Ron couldn't have known. "Boys," she muttered under her breath.

She ran her hands through her silken hair, smiling at the thought of Ron. How would Jasper react to this? She would have to make it up to her sometime, in some way, so she didn't feel left out. Besides, Jasper and Derek seemed to have something going on... It would be nice if things were like the old days, Rain decided.

Rain got up and wandered around, looking for Jasper. She even peered inside her room, although she wasn't there. Finally, Rain looked into Ron's room - and found Ron and Jasper together, holding hands. It seemed like she'd interrupted something. "Oh, I'm so sorry! Jasper, I'll be outside your room - so sorry!" she apologised again before pulling her head back and shutting the door. She couldn't help the smile that spread across her face, though. Ron and Jasper - they were just so cute when Ron was trying to be nice.

Rain strolled to Jasper's room and sat down on the cold floor, waiting.

"Jesus Jas, I'm gonna have to put some damn bells on you." Jasper couldn't help but smile as she stuck another piece of roll into her mouth. Even though he wasn't gone long, she always missed Ron's sense of humor when he was away or in a bad mood. "Well it was nice, we did some shopping and we had lunch..." He trailed off making it more than obvious that he had something other than bells and shopping on his mind. Her smile turned down but she stayed quiet, giving Ron time to sort out his thoughts before he opened his mouth again. She was all too used to these conversations, 'well everything's great, but.... Between Ron and her mom, Jasper was always on the end of the but, the one who didn't know what was going on, ever.

The thought made even the sweet roll turn sour in her mouth and she set down the plate on the bed beside her.

In the silence that ensued, Jasper tried to busy her curious brain by absorbing the smell of Ron's body wash, the feeling of his shoulder pressed against her own, and the even sound of his breathing. Ever since they were little, just knowing that Ron was there next to her made her calm and happy. It was always comforting to know that the strongest man in the world was on your side, not only that but he was your best friend, your brother. She often found herself wishing that she could have something that big to offer to him, but what did she have to offer? She couldn't master her own powers, and even if she could, it wouldn't be as amazing as what he had or what any of the others had. Heck, even a simple electrician could do more than she could with electricity. She was no healer, she wasn't even a great cook, all of her recipes had been passed down from her mother's side, she had none of her own, all she could do was replicate. As she looked down as her useless hands, waiting for Ron, Jasper felt an overwhelming sense of worthlessness. She was just a hot tempered girl who was a slow learner. She was selfish, jealous, self-pitying.There was no part of her that Ron could be proud of. Ron was strong, funny, nice, and accepting; the two were complete opposites.

She glared down at her hands as small sparks danced over them, a product of her emotions. However, rather than getting angry at all of it, she felt more like crying, and the feeling only worsened as Ron's hand went over her own. She squeezed it involuntarily, soaking up all the comfort she could from it. She released it for a second and then squeezed it tighter, hoping for that twitch of a muscle or finger that would show her how strong he was again. He may hate his strength, but Jasper always felt comfort and pride in the bruises from his hugs, he was so much more amazing than she was and she loved him for it. And hated herself.

"I'm going to have a kid.."

Silence as she waited for him to correct himself. She knew Ron too much to know when he had his foot in his mouth. She would have smiled if she wasn't in such a bad mood. She listened quietly as Ron told her everything. She wanted to do something but she felt herself going numb from her toes and slowly creeping up. "I.. did this, and I'm not going to make that poor little girl grow up in a home with no one to love her." She stole a glance at her friend and met his eyes for a second before tuning back to their hands. "And...I'd really like it if she could have a aunt to come too." An aunt... She felt so conflicted, she wanted to show her support for her best friend's decision, but her mind was still in so much turmoil and she felt like exploding, but she didn't want to do it in front of him. She didn't want him thinking it was because of his taking in Caroline.

Jasper squeezed his hand a final time and stood up, a humorless chuckle rattling her lungs. "And I thought I'd at least have a boyfriend before I'd be an aunt." She said, a grin resembling a grimace crossing her face. She hoped he wouldn't take it to heart, she was trying to hide her emotions with humor, after all. Jasper turned on her heels and walked out, somewhat robotically, and entered her room, shutting the door and locking it behind her before she realized that she wasn't alone.

Her heart felt like ice and she was more than happy to collapse onto Rain's lap and burst into tears, however childish the action was.

"Jas..." She was already gone, "Damnit.." He said with a sigh as he laid back down on his bed. He looked up to the ceiling and let his mind wonder. Go after her, you can fix this, just go and fix it!, his mind shouted at him as his gaze kept at above. He had always tried fixing things, he was the fixer, going to help, being the leader, but why always? He couldn't just relax at times or let things fix themselves. "No....I can rest now.." He told himself as he gave a slight smile. Was it bad that Jasper was sad or mad at him, yes, terrible, but he was doing something right and he was tired, so very, very tired. He laid his head back on his pillow and let his eyes drift close for a well needed and deserved, mid day nap.

Rain was leaning against the frame of Jasper's bed, her legs crossed under her on the floor, when she heard the door opening. She looked up to find Jasper stalking in. Before Rain could greet her, Jasper locked the door behind her. She turned and her eyes met Rain, before Rain realised that something terribly wrong.

Rain was about to get up, but Jasper collapsed onto her and started bawling her eyes out. Rain's hands hovered over Jasper's head, trying to decide what would be the best way to comfort her. Eventually, she gave up, and just pulled her upright, hugging her tight, stroking her back gently. "It's okay, Jasper," she whispered softly. "Cry it out, that's it." She ignored the fact that her shirt was soaked in Jasper's tears.

She waited until Jasper's sobs became lighter, then, without letting go of Jasper, asked, "Do you want to talk about it?"

Jasper was greatful for Rain's comfort as she cried. She usually didn't like to cry in front of other people, but for some reason, she found herself doing a lot of it lately. As her sobs slowly died out, she settled into a period of sniffles and hiccups. She heard Rain's question, but she hesitated for a while before she finally decided to answer.

Awkwardly sliding off of Rain's lap, Jasper wiped her eyes on her and took a long, shaky breath. "I really wanted Ron to know that I support his decision to take in Caroline, but I sort of just fell apart before I could tell him." she sighed and ran her hand through her hair. "I see you and him together and I get so jealous. You two are so perfect together, you are both strong, kind, and selfless. But me... I'm his opposite, I'm nothing like him and I wish I had something to give him like you do. When I'm with him, I feel so safe and proud of him, but he has nothing to be proud of in me. I can't even control my own powers." Jasper hugged herself, a tear going down her right cheek.

"thank you for listening, Rain." she muttered, embarrassed.

Rain put an arm around Jasper's shoulders. "If you want, I can tell Ron to go easy for a while, until you feel better about it. Look, tell you what, let's go out one of these days, okay? Just the two of us, doing whatever you want. Shopping, maybe a fair, or even the amusement park. Girls' night out. And why wouldn't he be proud of you? You are one of the strongest people I've ever known. Maybe you don't have complete control of your power, but neither do any of us. Why would you want to be perfect - so overrated. You're an amazing person, Jasper."

Her eyes lit up. "How about I gave you your Christmas present early? Would that cheer you up?" Hugging Jasper tightly, Rain whispered, "And you're welcome. You know I'm always here for you."

Jasper sighed, not really believing what Rain was telling her, but she was comforted by her attempt. If Ron was to date anyone, she was glad it was Rain. Suddenly conscious of her wet cheeks, she viciously wiped at them until the coarse fabric of her jacket rubbed them raw and red. "That's two today, Ron's-hic!- gonna pay." She muttered, her threat ruined by her stuffed nose and hiccups. She turned to Rain and shrugged out of her hug, big tough Jasper once more. "Thank you, I'd like that."

"How about I gave you your Christmas present early? Would that cheer you up?" Jasper allowed Rain's warm hug, finding comfort in her kind contact.

"I don't think that's make me feel much better, I like waiting for Christmas to open them." She shrugged, "it just seems more magical that way." Standing up on wobbly legs, Jasper shot a glance to the bed and suddenly remembered the slice of roll she had cut for the other girl. "I'm going to go...apologize to Ron," she gritted her teeth, apologizing wasn't her favorite thing in the world to do. "There's some of the roll I made on the bed for you, if you don't want it, just wrap it up and stick it in the fridge." And with that, the purple haired girl was out.

Ron definitely wasn't the type of person who was hard to find. He'd either follow you and try to help if you were upset, or he'd stay where he was. Obviously in this case he had stayed put. Jasper looked at his sleeping body and was actually slightly annoyed. How could he just doze off when she was upset? She walked right in and sat on him. "Ron Faulk, the next time you fall asleep when I'm in a bad mood, I swear to god I'll beat you to a bloody pulp." She announced into his ear.

Ron woke from his small nap to see the little purple haired girl sitting on top of him. He smiled and kept his eyes closed until she leaned down to whisper in his ear. When she did, he grabbed her, making her flip around until she was laying on top of him and them face to face. Him still making sure to do it lightly but quickly as he felt the framilier shock as he did so many times before. They were face to face as Ron looked up and smiled with a small laugh. "Oh shutup.." he said still smiling. He hugged her and then quickly flipped her over on the empty side next to him as he started to laugh a little. "Sleep, no no no no shhhhhh." He said putting his finger to her lips with a little laugh. He then rolled over putting half his body over her.

Still laughing like they were playing when they were kids he stopped and leaned in, kissing her on the cheek and then pulling her close to him. "I love you Jas, and don't you ever forget that...." He said as he closed his eyes again. He was still really tired from all that had been happening and he did need to get some sleep. Besides, he did good thinking when he was almost asleep and he had a lot to think about now. How would the rest of the house react to Caroline? Did he need to focus more time on his powers? Why hadn't there been a attack that they had to deal with in a long time. But the thing that he was going to think of most of all, the thing that needed most attention, when he leaned over, he ment to kiss Jasper on the lips.

Jasper

Jasper let Ron flip her around, it was like when they were kids and would wrestle in the middle of the cafe. She loved the attention he was giving her now, but she couldn't help but feel that rolling around on the bed together was a bit inappropriate, especially with Rain in the other room. However, the look on his face kept her from saying anything, he had looked so broken when he killed Caroline's father and then when she walked out on him after he told her about the adoption, she just wanted him to stay happy.

She laid on top of him, a surprised look on her face. "Ron, maybe-"

"Oh shutup.." He laughed, she shut her mouth. He looked so happy, she didn't want to ruin it, she'd already put him through too much emotional pain today, it was nice to see that smile. She let him hug her, then flip her back onto the bed.

"Ron, seriously-" She began, laughing a bit.

"Sleep, no no no no shhhhhh." She chuckled and the two just laid there laughing, it was like old times when life wasn't so damn complicated. He stuck his finger over her lips and she bit it.

"Get your hands out of my face, ass hat!" Jasper joked, smacking him in the chest with the back of her hand.

Then he did something she didn't expect, he rolled halfway on top of her and kissed her on the cheek and hugged her close. She sighed. He said something to her, but she wasn't listening, he sounded really tired and as soon as he had finished speaking his breathing seemed to slow and she realized he had fallen asleep with his arm and leg over top of her. She closed her eyes and ruffled his hair. Sleep sounded good right now...

Rain waited for about ten minutes inside Jasper's room, waiting. When she was sure that Jasper and Ron had made up, she got up and made her way over. She heard laughter float down the hall. It sounded like Ron's, but maybe Jasper's was mixed in as well. Rain smiled, pausing outside the door for a minute.

She opened it, just in time to see Ron and Jasper asleep, Ron draped over the purple-haired girl. Rain paused, unsure of what was happening before her eyes. On one hand, she trusted Jasper and Ron, they were like siblings. And besides, with everything that happened that morning - she trusted him.

On the other hand, they were in a very intimate position. Bodies intertwined... yep, definitely intimate. With a sudden burst of anger that she couldn't explain, Rain turned on her heel and stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind her. She raced downstairs, and pulling on a coat, went out onto the streets to walk it off.

Ron woke with a start as he heard the door slam. He lifted his head slowly and rubbed his eyes, he looked down to see his legs tangled up with Jasper's and his arm laying across her midriff. He rolled away from her and sat up on the edge of the bed. He looked back over at her with heavy eyes and then the door. Putting his hands on his face as the realization of what just happened hit him. "AhhhhhHHH Rain! Wait!" He stood up and reached to grab his jacket as he turned back to Jasper not sure if she was awake or not.

"I'm sorry Jas, I keep doing this shit to you and her and I mean." He leaned up against the wall and took a minute as he collected his thoughts and calmed himself a little. He looked over at her just silent, he was just so tired. "I'm going to go after her, I'll be back in a little." He said as he exited the room and went quickly down the stairs.

As he left the house he caught of glimpse of her down the sidewalk and ran after her. "Rain, Rain! Will you stop this, let me talk to you." Ron yells as he pushed pass the crowd until he got behind Rain. "Rain stop, please, can't we talk?" He tried to keep his pace behind her. "You know that didn't mean anything, she's like my sister, I know I can't bee doing that but it was just a habit I'm sorry Rain." He kept walking and saw a ally way coming up. He very quickly pulled her to the side until they were out of view and then grabbed her making sure she was secure and then jumping up to the roof above.

Once he was touching the roof he let her go. "There, no where to walk to." He said putting his hands up. "Beat on me, yell at me, I know I was in the wrong and I deserve this but I just want you to understand where I'm coming from." He said as he paused letting her get out whatever she wanted to. "I'm sorry Rain, I've just been so tired and I wasn't thinking. I swear something like that wont happen again. Rain we're just friends, I promise." He walked up to her getting close. "Rain, I want you...and only you. It's always been that way Rain. I'm sorry..."

Rain S. Daniels

Rain heard Ron yelling after her and immediately regretted slamming the bedroom door that hard. Perhaps she should have done it quietly, then she would have more time to herself. As it was, Ron was already coming after her. Scowling under the hood of the jacket she'd pulled over her face, she increased her pace, hoping to escape him.

No such luck. Ron caught up to her, keeping pace with her, though he admittedly kept behind Rain. "Rain, stop, please, can't we talk?" "No, we can't," Rain muttered under her breath, uncharacteristically irritable for someone as sweet and reserved as her.

She overlooked the alley way, which was the cause of her surprise. She let out a yelp as Ron pulled her into it, arching her back instinctively. Ron still didn't let go of her, holding her close and jumping onto the roof, even when Rain kicked her heels back into his shin.

Finally, he let go. Rain stood at the edge of the roof, glaring furiously at Ron. Her expression softened when she saw Ron's hands up in a gesture of surrender. "Beat on me, yell at me, I know I was in the wrong and I deserve this but I just want you to understand where I'm coming from. I'm sorry Rain, I've just been so tired and I wasn't thinking. I swear something like that won't happen again. Rain, we're just friends, I promise."

Rain bit her lip, which was beginning to tremble. She tried to hold back the tears that were welling up in her eyes, and sniffed once, unwillingly. She couldn't say anything, because she knew that if she tried, she would start crying. She pulled her hood lower over her face, directing her gaze at her feet.

"I know," she finally managed, in a surprisingly clear voice. "I just - I'm sorry."

Arthur was glad to see that the children's mother had found them, however he was a little disappointed that she'd let them run off alone. Then again, mistakes can happen and the kids very well might've run off while she was occupied with something. Even so, hopefully now the woman would keep a better eye on the two of them.

"Thank you so much, thank you. I'm so sorry, please tell me how I can repay you."

"No need for that, it's fine. Just glad they're okay. Make sure you watch them better next time, though. It's not safe for a couple of kids to be running around by themselves."

He glanced down at his friend with a soft smile, letting her take over the situation. Lauri was one of the childish, most immature people he had ever met and she was always so annoying and irrational back in high school, but even she had her responsible moment. Come to think of it, he couldn't really figure out how someone like himself and someone like Lauri could become so close. Even now she still annoyed him and frustrated him, but somehow he loved her that way despite how often he acted like he didn't care for her. In fact a lot of people wondered how these two ended up becoming best friends..family even.

Opposites attract, right?

"We can get my drinks later, let's head back to base and get you some ice, Mr. Hero. You look like your in a little pain there, haha..."

Arthur gave her an awkward smile. "Yeah, that sounds like a good idea.", he said as she waved to the children before turning away and walking in the opposite direction. He followed her with his hands in his jean pockets, trying not to cause her to slow down too much. "Do you think Ron and Rain are back at HQ yet? I might need Rain to check up on me. I've had worse but just in case." He said with his usual light smile as they walked. As required when they left the house, Arthur carried his communicator with him and figured maybe Ron or Rain would've brought theirs with too. So, lifting his left hand up to his ear, he let them know they were on their way back.

"Ehi, whoever is listening, is Rain back at base yet? I'd appreciate it if she could look me over quick once Lauri and I get back. We should be home soon."

Jasper

The slam of the door was loud and Jasper would have had to be deaf to not be awakened by it. Even so, as soon as she woke up she shut her eyes again, more than happy to just stay asleep. Ron was warm and she was always cold. Unfortunately the door was loud enough to wake up Ron, despite the fact that he was usually a heavy sleeper. Jasper felt him shift beside her and squeezed her eyes tightly in frustration, hoping that her human blanket would lie back down so she could resume her nap. By then, he was already sitting on the edge of the bed and she felt him go rigid after he was struck by the realization hit him. He shouted out and that's when it came to Jasper what had happened. Her eyes shot open, but she quickly shut them again when he turned to her.

"I'm sorry Jas, I keep doing this shit to you and her and I mean."

She wasn't sure if he knew that she was awake or not, but kept feigning sleep anyway, not ready to face him and not knowing what to say if she did. As her friend shot out of the room running after Rain, Jasper wrestled with her feelings, not knowing if she was mad at Ron for running out on her, Rain for overreacting, or herself for not doing something.

Jasper knew that she wasn't going to be able to sleep again, and sat up, clenching her fists in her lap. These things always happened, she always caused other people pain and she was so fed up with it. She took a deep breath and held it until her chest hurt and then let it out in a puff, trying to calm herself, her skin prickling with electricity, reacting to her anxiety and pent up anger.

"Ehi, whoever is listening, is Rain back at base yet? I'd appreciate it if she could look me over quick once Lauri and I get back. We should be home soon."

Jasper jumped and looked toward the source, it seemed that Ron had left his communicator on his nightstand. The sound of Arthur's voice exuding from it seemed to calm her down, it felt like she hadn't seen him and Lauri for a long time and it was nice to hear someone who wasn't aware of the drama that had just unfolded in the now quiet house. She crawled over to the table and picked up the communicator, lifting it to her ear. She took a few deep breaths, trying to erase any hints of the way she was feeling before pressing the button that would allow Arthur and anyone else with their communicators to hear her. "No, her and Ron just went out." She said calmly, making sure not to let on why they were out, she wasn't even sure if they were together. "I don't know how long they'll be." She quickly added before setting down the comm device and standing up. She stretched out her limbs, resulting in some protesting pops of joints, and drug her feet all the way to her room where she plopped onto her bed, staring at the ceiling and wondering what she ever did in a past live to be rewarded with only the talent of screwing everything up.

Ron smiled at Rain as she tried to hide her face. He walked over to her and put his finger under her chin like before, lifting until their eyes met. He held her close in loving hug, not wanting to go for the kiss in case the little girl still had her anger in her. "There's nothing to be sorry about, it's just... when we get back, sometime before christmas, I'd just like to talk with both of you, get all this out on table, ya know?" He said looking down at her, "Wanna get any punches in before we go back down and someone can call the cops on you?" He said with a chuckle as he turned his back to her. "Hop on." He said as he waited for the soft hands to come around his neck, his hands wrapping around her legs to where he could have a good grip on her. He decided that they should go back to the house, having had plenty of outside today. He hopped across the roof tops with ease, holding on to Rain tightly to hold her in place as they leaped. Once on the roof to the home they could take the roof entrance from there. He set her down and let her take lead as they got back home but held onto her hand. He pulled her back and before she could get a word out he kissed her and held her there for a while. When he broke it he opened his eyes slowly and smiled, "Now remember that next time will you?" He said as he put his arm around her and walked inside together.

Once on the house level he looked down the hall to see his bedroom door open. "Hey I'm going to go talk to Jas, I gotta talk to her about what I did." He turned to Rain and ran his big hands across her curves and hips, just smiling and holding her. Really driving the point in that she was the only one. "I'll be back, see if the others are home, it's been a few hours since they left." As Ron went to his room he peaked in to see that she wasn't there anymore, he hustled down to her room and opened it a crack to see if she was in there. Before going in he caught his breath and opened the door. He sat next to her bed, similar to that morning in the living room. "Ya know, I read somewhere that it takes quite a bit of electricaty to kill a man, and that people can even build up a immunity to it, so that's gotta mean that I'm like 3 times as able to survive. You can give it a go." He said holding his arm out to the bed. "Before you say anything, please let me get this out. Jasper, I love you, I always have, always will. I love Rain to, she means a lot to me. I'm not going to stop doing anything with me and you or me and her. I'm still going to love you, I'm going to bug you to make me breakfast because I'm to lazy, I'm going to carry your ass to the taxi on momma's birthday and make sure your happy as can be. Your going to make sure I'm dressed right and not like a bum so I don't embaress you even though I'm going to try." He said with a little laugh as he looked up to her. "It's just she's going to be there to, helping, and loving, and caring. I know that might not be fair to you after all these years but she means a lot to me and hopefully that's enough for you." Ron poked at Jasper's side softly as he giggled like a little kid. "And back there, sleeping like that, that was fine, that wasn't your fault, not mine, not Rain's. I just need to tell you both that things aren't going to change, life is good and if I want to take a nap with you or Rain I don't need either of you barging in and waking my ass up, I'm tired, let me sleep dammit. Maybe wake me up though if it's your niece under me get that poor girl out of there." He said laughing as he stood up. He leaned down and kissed Jasper on the forehead and then softly took her cheeks in his hands, "I love you Jas, ok? Now I'll leave you alone, and stop moping around! You look ugly when you mop." He said teasing her as he smiled back at her before leaving. As he left he walked downstairs sitting on the couch and turning on the TV. "Hey Arthur!? You back yet!?" He yelled from the couch, after today, some guy time was very, very welcomed.

Jasper

The sound of the front door opening and shutting startled Jasper and her eyes shot to her bedroom door, wondering if it was Arthur and Lauri or if it was Rain or Ron. She shut her eyes and listened intently. The faint sound of voices could be heard from downstairs and she recognized them as Ron's mostly. She sighed and let the air out through her nose, jumping as small sparks erupted from her nostrils. She brought up her hands to her nose, shocked. A trickle of blood ran out and she winced.

Sneezing electricity, that was a first.

Jasper rolled onto her side, facing the wall away from the door and prodded at her nose with her sleeve, dabbing away the blood. Another jacket ruined by her lack of control over her powers and her lack of tissues handy. She was so focused on the stream of blood coming from her nose that she barely noticed that Ron was sitting by her until be began talking.

"Ya know, I read somewhere that it takes quite a bit of electricaty to kill a man, and that people can even build up a immunity to it, so that's gotta mean that I'm like 3 times as able to survive. You can give it a go."

She smirked, hiding it behind her sleeve, but said nothing. She let Ron say what he wanted to say and she listened quietly, her mood slowly picking up as he talked. She hated and loved that about him, he had a way of never letting you stay mad at him. When he finished talking, he laughed and kissed her forehead, though she was still hiding her face.

"I love you Jas, ok? Now I'll leave you alone, and stop moping around! You look ugly when you mope." He took her face in his hands and forced her to look at him, her nose and lips wet with the blood that was still running freely from her burnt nose. She stuck her tongue out at him and smiled back at him as he left. She sat up and wiped her face off, again, with her sleeve before following him downstairs.

"Ron! Before you sit your lazy ass down, go get me some tissues!" She shouted into his ear as she reached the couch. She hopped over the back and landed next to him, wiping at her nose again.

Ron winced at the scream and then turned, actually seeing Jasper now. "Holy shit Jas, hold on." He got up quickly as he went and grabbed a box of tissues and hurried back. He sat down taking some tissues in one hand and leaning her head back in the other hand. He held the tissues to her noes and wiped what blood he could. "Jesus Jas it's really coming, what happened?" He listened to her and kept cleaning what he could, seeing her jacket, stained in blood.

"I worry about you Jas, it's not even about your powers Jas...." He thought of what could happen if a bad shock came her way. Losing Jasper, he really couldn't think of anything worse. "Jas you can find somebody, someone has to be able to help." Ron looked at her in the eyes as he held her head in his hand. He looked around not seeing anybody, he sat there quietly for a while as he rolled this single thought over in his head, over and over. "Jas...there's this woman, in Sweeden. Her father, and his father before, and his father before. They've all studied the very structure of electricity, passing on their knowledge to the next. I researched this girl our senior year of highschool for a project."

Ron took a deep breath and checked to make no one was around to hear him again. "I could pick up Caroline and we could go. She could help you, Jas this could be life or death. The thing is the company, they won't let us go. We'd be out right showing our powers and the company will probably put us somewhere that we would never see another person in our life. I don't care though, if it's your life on the line I'll run." Ron lifted her head up and made sure her nose wasn't bleeding. He looked back at her and the pure worry in his eyes was clear as possible. Ron was terrified, and even if this ment leaving, his friends, his perfect job, leaving Rain. God he would be leaving Rain, it killed him inside, but it would kill him more to see Jasper in a coffin knowing that he could've saved her. "Please Jasper....I...I can't stand the thought that you may die because of this, and that there is someone who can help. This can only get worse Jas, these people know nothing of your powers, they can't help. I just...." Ron's eyes welded with water, this was a hard choice but he had thought of this for a while, he just never thought that it would get this far.

Jasper

Jasper let Ron baby her, getting the tissues and holding them to her nose to soak up the blood. She winced, the inside of her nose was definitely burnt, and Ron's tense, strong grip on her nose wasn't making it feel any better. Jasper knew she was probably going to need to ask Rain to heal it, but she wasn't looking forward to trying to explain the situation.

"Jesus Jas it's really coming, what happened?" Ron asked, concern flooding his eyes. She wondered why he was taking it so seriously, it was just a bloody nose, she'd done worse before. After a long look at him, she decided that he deserved to know what happened, so she took a deep breath and began, her voice nasally because of the tissue blocking her nostrils.

"It's nothing, I just got a bit frustrated and when I sighed some sparks came out, it's no big deal, bro." She explained, trying to keep her tone playful to reassure her friend. It didn't seem to have worked, if anything, it just made Ron freak out more. He started on a whole story of running away to Sweden and getting help from a family of electricians, he even got teary at the end of it. Jasper's head was spinning and she was loosing her patience with him quickly.

She grabbed his arms with her own and zapped them slightly, her sign that he was holding on too tight. "Ow- Ron please let go of my nose." She hissed, shocking them once more, a little stronger, for good measure. After he released her, Jasper took a clean tissue and dabbed at his eyes before talking again. "You need to slow down for a second, Ron, I'm not going to die." She began, "I may not have control over my powers but I'm not strong enough to ever cause that much damage to myself, I know this. I know you're trying to look out for me, and that's sweet, but if I was afraid that I could kill myself by accident, I would have gotten help a long time ago, you're just overreacting. Plus, we can't leave here, we both care about the people in this house way too much to run off to Sweden for some rewiring or something. Anyway, you and I both know that I suck at learning new languages, so that wouldn't work." She smiled slightly and reached up, pinching his cheek, "I appreciate that you want to help, but I'm fine, okay? Really. It was just a nosebleed, I've done worse." Jasper flicked her purple hair over her shoulder and kissed her friend on the cheek, finalizing the discussion, before leaning back in the couch and turning the TV on.
