Jasper Maze

"Really? I thought it was nice, I guess you still need to help me buy my clothes."

Jasper smiled a bit and nodded. "I guess so." She walked over and sat down where her friend had indicated, crossing her legs and playing with her scarf with a bored look on her face. However, she did crack a smile when he mentioned the hat. "It's not that I like it, it's just really warm." She argued, crossing her arms stubbornly over her chest. Her smile fell when Ron asked about Rain.

"I'm worried about her." The purple haired girl admitted, a tired look crossing her face (weakness that she'd only show in front of Ron). "She had another dream about her brother and... I don't know what to do. You know I'm no good at comforting people..." She trailed off, looking into her lap, but suddenly shot her purple eyes up at her friend, "but that doesn't mean you need to say something, capiche? If you really want her to like you, then don't bring it up. The topic hurts her. You just need to be there for her. A shoulder to cry on, ya know? She'll come to you when she's ready." Jasper wasn't really one for romantic advice, heck, she was terrible on the subject. She wouldn't be able to tell someone liked her if they confessed to her face (which is precisely what's happened). She was smart, but not in that area. However, she knew Ron better than she knew herself, and she cared about Rain. If Rain was to have anybody, Jasper knew that Ron was the right choice.

"Just, gotta make sure my teams OK..."

Jasper snickered, "I know, Champ."

"So, what cha' getting me for Christmas?" He said laughing as he got up on his knees and bounced around on the bed and held onto her shoulders like a little kid. "Tell me, tell me, tell me, telllll meeeeee!!"

The sudden change of mood surprised her and she didn't realize that Ron was shaking her until she knocked her head against his when he grabbed her around the waist. He didn't seem to notice, but Jasper definitely did, and she winced, feeling a bruise come on already. "Actually I haven't even th-"

Too late, her childhood friend had already changed the topic and the mood once more to serious. "I love you Jas..."
She pried her arms out from Ron's grip and awkwardly hugged him back, not knowing what to say.

"Love you too, Champ." She muttered, face going purple from his iron grip, even though he was going easy on her this time.

"Love shock." Jasper appreciated the fact that he was trying to make her feel like she did it on purpose, but the topic still put her in a ruddy mood.

"You and I both know that's not it." She whispered bitterly, looking down at her hands. It took all of her concentration, but small sparks danced along her fingertips. "You don't know how jealous I am of you. You've got so much more control." She squeezed her hands shut, frustrated. The sparks died.

"Anything you want to talk about?"

"No." Jasper said tersely. She couldn't help it, the topic of her powers sent her in a sour mood. Ron was the only one that she knew she could snap at without hurting feelings.

"So, Arthur's in our group. Just give me the word and I'll leave you two alone." He said with a wink.

Jasper blushed without realizing it, and pushed Ron in retaliation to the embarrassing statement. "Yeah, about that... I'm beginning to wonder if it's really a coincidence that we've been in the same patrol group for the past week. Do you have anything you want to tell me?" She still wasn't smiling, but her change of tone was enough to let her friend know that she had forgiven him.

"He's a nice guy Jas, and you deserve someone for you. If not him just think about dating, but know that I will judge them SO HARD!"

"I appreciate the thought, Champ, but you and I both know that I'm not interested in dating." She cracked a tiny smile at his last comment, "I'll make sure to run my boyfriends by you dad. Gonna get the big guns out?" He stood, leaning down and kissing the top of her panda hat before walking out of the room.

She watched Ron leave, and sat there gathering her emotions before she walked out, clutching her still aching head, making an internal note to run by Rain before they left for patrol duty. As she walked by a mirror in the hallway she noticed a half-dollar sized black and blue mark forming. "Ow.." Jasper muttered, prodding it with her finger before covering it with her bangs. She'd make sure to zap Ron for that later.

Something nudged her leg, and she looked down to see her bright green lizard, Booze, chewing on her boots, a sign that he wanted up. She picked up the thing and allowed him to climb up to his perch on top of her head (between the two panda ears on her hat) before she began walking again. It wasn't uncommon for her to bring him with to patrols.

Jasper stepped into the living room to be immediately met by Derrick. "What's Ron screaming about?"

She rolled her eyes and crossed her arms, "he wanted to know what I got him for Christmas."

"All I heard was him shouting 'so hard'. That did not sound right to me."

She smiled, "don't worry it's not what you think. He told me that I should think about dating Arthur. He was telling me that if I dated anyone else, he'd judge them real hard." She took a deep breath and looked back to Erin's room. "I'm really thankful that he wants me to be happy. I mean, I'm not nearly the person I was before everything happened with my dad and he know that, but... I'm not interested in romantic relationships. I've got my powers to worry about."

Jasper turned her attention to the clock and then back to Derek, "whatever, it doesn't really matter. Hey, I'm gonna go get a water bottle from the fridge, you want some?" She asked, turning and making her way to to kitchen.

Derek Bale

Derek sighed, hearing about Arthur... He was the pink-haired kid... right? Derek still had a little time remembering some people's names. Derek started off behind Jasper as she made her way into the kitchen. "No. I'm alright." He replied calmly. Jasper's statement still rung in his ears... "but... I'm not interested in romantic relationships". Derek was no therapist, but he wanted to speak his mind about the subject and what Derek wanted, Derek got. So he touched her shoulder and said seriously, "I'm not all all that wise and what not, but you only have one life. Don't let that one event in you life hold you back from having other events that might make you happy. I don't know all of the details between you and your father, but he's gone now. Don't let him hold you back."

He held his gaze on her for a moment more before letting her go and walking off into the kitchen. He grabbed Jasper a water bottle and placed it onto the counter then began to rummage through the cabinets for something a little more filling than what he had for breakfast.

As Ron walked away from his room he decided that he should talk to Rain. He noticed that this morning she looked tired and he was worried about her. He went and knocked on her door, not wanting to invade her privacy. "Uh Rain? It's Ron, I just wanted to talk to you for a little." He said as he quickly checked himself over, he straightened out his jacket and hat as he took a breath. He looked like he was about to propose he was so nervous, he was always this nervous around Rain. She was amazing, she was everything he wasn't. Ron could only break things, she healed them. Back at the start of the program when the group was first meeting, Ron use to purposely try and hurt himself so he could come to her room and spend some time with her.

"Hey!" He said happily as he looked down at her. "Wow, you look great." He caught himself off guard with that, making himself search his brain to find where that courage came from. "I was wondering if you could give me a quick run over before we leave. I think I hurt my arm tossing that trailer yesterday." He said rolling it, acting like it was in more pain that it really was. Truth was he wanted to talk to her about this morning, he knew Jasper told him to wait but he just wanted to be around her.

Rain S. Daniels

"Hey!" Rain jumped and turned around. A couple of seconds passed before she realized that someone was outside her door. She opened the door. Ron stood there, smiling at her. Rain breathed a small sigh of relief. She hadn't wanted Ron to see the presents before she distributed them that evening. Thankfully, the cupboard door was closed. "Wow, you look great." Ron complimented her. Rain blinked, a little uneasily. Ron didn't usually say stuff like that, so where had it come from? It's the magic of Christmas! a small voice chirped inside her head. Rain allowed herself a small smile before ushering Ron inside.

"So, Ron, what did you want?" she asked, sitting them both down on her bed. "I was wondering if you could give me a quick run over before we leave. I think I hurt my arm tossing that trailer yesterday." He rolled his arm as he spoke. Rain sighed a little. "That's why you should take more care," she murmured, carefully prodding her fingers up the length of his arm. Closing her eyes, she placed one hand on Ron's elbow and the other on his shoulder. She concentrated hard on sending healing energy from her hands to his arm. A warm, tingling sensation passed between them.

Once the tingling sensation stopped, Rain opened her eyes and removed her hands, clasping them in her lap. "Better?" she asked, breathing heavily. Perspiration was prickling her forehead and her cheeks were slightly flushed. This was the part Rain hated; she hadn't controlled her healing well enough to reduce the amount of energy it took each time. Still, for Ron, it was worth it. Besides, she'd come a long way, compared to when she'd faint every time she did healing, not to mention the fact that she became queasy at the sight of blood. Still, I'd do it again and again for Ron, if only to keep him safe and unhurt.

Ron noticed the bead of sweat and felt really bad, he forgot that it took it out of her everytime. He rolled his arm again, "much better, hey I'm sorry about bothering you about such a trivial injury. I shouldn't come to you about every little ache and pain." He trailed off, "So christmas huh? It'll be nice to have everyone together finally, just relaxing. I was thinking about cooking but, well I guess I need more practice." He said with a laugh. He couldn't wait for christmas with the group, he had already gotten gifts for everybody since they usually had to do it early. He had gotten Rain this beautiful diamond necklace, only Arthur knew about it because he was there when Ron got it. It might have been excessive but he thought about telling Rain how he had felt for years about her this christmas.

"Hey I'm sorry that today you got the short end of the stick today with just the two of you going on patrol. You two can handle yourself though." He said with a smile. Ron turned and looked at Ran, there was so much he wanted to tell her, to talk to her about, yet all together, he couldn't say a thing. "Hey this morning, you looked a bit tired, anything you want to talk about?" He said as he turned to her, he might not be out right about his true feelings but he would always be there for her to talk to even if she didn't feel that way about him. He got a piece of paper out, writing down some numbers. "Look, this is my private radio channel, if you want to talk about anything while we are out there, anything at all, just switch to that channel and I'll talk to you." He said as he put the piece of paper in her hand, holding it there for a little as he shot a smile her way. "I got to go, 20 minutes and out the door." He stood and started to the door. "Oh, and could you check on Jasper when you get a chance, I may have hurt her a little when I was giving her a hug...." He said that and it brought him back to his childhood, when he couldn't touch someone. He remembered the first time he could even shake Jasper's hand, he cried, she must have thought he was so weird. Even after all the time that Rain and Ron had spent together over the years, he couldn't remember a time he hugged her, which was weird considering that he had hugged even Derek before. He was so afraid of hurting her that he didn't want to risk it.

As he came into the living room he took two of the muffins and tossed one behind him, he whistled a little and knew the Arthur would catch it. "You know man, it's hard out here. Powers are great and all, but not even people with other powers can understand some of the shit, you know?" He sat on the chair across from Arthur, bitting into the muffin. "So! What's up with you man?"

Arthur lay on the couch with his arm resting over his eyes, listening to the voices upstairs, though they weren't loud enough to understand. Lately it just seemed to be the same thing everyday with only a few changes every now and then. Of course, he loved being away from his family and living here with his new one, but repeating the same thing everyday eventually started to become a little boring for him. He was glad that the crime rate had gone down so much and all, but after it's all said and done he wondered if the Alphas really would be shut down. If the government could handle the crime themselves now, what would be the point in paying a bunch of kids to do it for them?

Arthurs thoughts were broken by the sound of footsteps and whistle and he moved his arm from her eyes just in time to see a small object being tossed to him. He quite easily caught it, careful not to crush the bread in his hand when he did, and then sat up, turning so he was now sitting properly on the couch.

"You know man, it's hard out here. Powers are great and all, but not even people with other powers can understand some of the shit, you know?"

"Completely, it's definitely not easy. All of our powers have sideffects.", He said with a small, agreeing smile before taking a bite of the muffin and leaning back against the couch. It was true, Ron and Arthur both being the ones who experienced the most of that sideffect.

"So! What's up with you man?"

"I was wondering why Jasper and I have been put on the same patrol for a week now? You're the one who puts the teams together." He let out a small sigh, leaning back a little more and slightly slouching his shoulders. "She already turned me down a long time ago, remember?"

Jasper jumped, her cheeks flushing as she felt Derek's hand on her shoulder, whether it was from anger or something else she wasn't sure. Ron told her once that he thought she had a crush on him, but she quickly shot it down, believing it was absurd. However, it wasn't far fetched, Jasper did feel a connection with Derek. They both had a lot in common personality wise, and if she needed someone calm to talk to at the house, she knew she could go to him for good advice and some well needed quiet.

"I'm not all all that wise and what not, but you only have one life. Don't let that one event in you life hold you back from having other events that might make you happy. I don't know all of the details between you and your father, but he's gone now. Don't let him hold you back."

"I'm not letting my dad hold me back," she said defensively, "he's dead, it's done. That's not why I don't want to get in a relationship. I'm just not ready for that kind of commitment. I know that I'm 21, I'm only young once, YOLO, and all that crap but... I don't understand why everyone is trying to push me into some sort of relationship." She looked into his eyes, then averted her own, her cheeks burning for some odd reason.

Jasper took the water bottle and turned to finish getting ready for patrol routes. She stopped, her back facing Derek and swallowed her frustration before muttering, "but thanks...maybe I'll try harder to be happy. Or something." She walked out to find Arthur and Ron.

As she was walking, she opened her water bottle and took a sip- only to zap herself in the face. "Ow! Godammit!" She hissed, quickly pulling the bottle away from her face. Anger and water didn't seem to go well together for her. She sighed and concentrated on controlling her electricity. Slowly, fearing that she wasn't doing it enough, she brought the bottle to her lips and took a hesitant sip. There was a small shock, but nothing too major. Still, she wasn't ready to try again, and she approached Ron and stuck it in his jacket pocket.

"Hey." She greeted as nonchalantly and she could while she was rubbing her lip. "How long until we have to go?"

He smiled at Ria; she didn't leave her out, but afterall, she guessed she needed attention. Still, he has other stuff to scramble around his head. Jason looked still undecided, but for now, that is not important. The only thing that he would make sure is that Ria was on his side, all along. Even if he could control all the elements, and that Jason has somekind of muscular memory, she was the great asset of his plan. He knew that his infamous reputation wouldn't grab on people in the world for what he wanted to accomplice. However, she had the mind to make them change team and go for them. This was, and still is, the thing he will need.

He looked at Jason trying not to shake besides Ria. It is so lovely to see her getting what she wants from Jason. Guess that is how she convinced him to get enrolled. Such flaw should be corrected. Nan, maybe afterward. he thought to himself. He brushed a bit his purple hair away from his face, wanting Jason to have a better view of his face as he gave a smirk to him. He didn't know what she said to Jason, but he guessed that she was doing something in that delay.

"We'll be ready to move in once you give the order" she said after that delay was done. He looked at her. She was using her power to talk in his head. He nodded softly, only turning his back, saying: "I'll be in my office, if you need me." and he went away into his room. He needed to rest his head too.

Once he reached to his couch, he laid down on the couch that was in the room. He liked the smell of the stuff that was once stolen by him. Well, in sort of way. He wouldn't like to steal something as big like that. Even if he wants to, too many risk could have been encountered. Instead, he would do something that he liked to call exchange of services, even though, it wasn't really one. On the other hand, he just didn't want to look up for the right term. In anycase, it would probably be marked as stolen. But hey, what would the cops would start? The situation was mostly hopeless for them, a suicide mission. He smiled softly to his thoughts and went silent to listen to his music.

He smiled when he asked why he was in the same group as Jas, "Honestly it was the rotation, I switch up a pattern every month. Arthur, Arthur my man. You going to quit after once?" He said with a little laugh as he sat up a bit. "That's a complicated woman right there, nothing will work without practice. I would say trust me but to be completely honest I have no idea what that woman will do, ever." He said finishing off his muffin. "But I do have a good feeling.' He said as he saw Jasper come into the room and leaned close to Arthur. "Keep at it man, don't give up on her, she's worth it." He smiled at her as she came in and slipped the water bottle in his pocket. He knew what that ment, she was getting emotional and was loosing a little control of her powers. She'd gotten shocked many times by drinks and she'd either throw them away after the first drink or hand them to Ron without a word. He opened it and took a drink as he looked at his phone. "Mm! Bought now actually, let's head out to the cars." He stood up hustling down to the hall, "Rain! Derek! We are heading out! Your car will be waiting out front, stay safe out there!" He said as he let Arthur then Jasper pass. He put his hand on Jasper's shoulders and walked with her to the door as he leaned down to were he could whisper. "Deep breaths Jas, deep breaths." He told her, trying to calm her down. It sucked that she couldn't just get extremely happy and he tried to comfort her as best as he could. He rubbed her shoulders and let go off her as they went out the door and into the car.

On patrol, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Ron jumped up from a alley and walked the roofs. Now that Ron had his powers he could do all kinds of things, jump higher, run faster, it was amazing. "Agent's status report." He said over the coms, asking if both teams saw anything. When Ron was on a mission or just patrol, he had tunnel vision. There was a objective and that is what mattered. He sent a text to Jas, asking her what he should get Alice for christmas, because, you know, you're a girl. Was his exact words, he may have been focused on the task at hand but if there was anything that could take him of path, it was Rain. He kept a eye out as he saw nothing but a peaceful day in the city.

"Honestly it was the rotation, I switch up a pattern every month. Arthur, Arthur my man. You going to quit after once?"

"Don't worry, I don't give up that easily." He replied with a smile as he straightened himself up a bit.

"That's a complicated woman right there, nothing will work without practice. I would say trust me but to be completely honest I have no idea what that woman will do, ever."

That was definitely the truth. Jasper was a very complicated person, but that was the reason Arthur liked her so much; because he couldn't figure her out. Usually he was quite the genius when it came to girls. He'd always know exactly what top say at exactly the right time and could always put together the pieces of practically any girls puzzle, but Jasper was the very opposite. Despite working with her for so long, she was still a mystery. The only thing he really knew how to do was get her annoyed(which he naturally finds amusing), or all he could do was act casual.

"Keep at it man, don't give up on her, she's worth it."

"I'll keep that in mind." He said with a light smile as Jasper walked into the room and then Ron announced that it was time to get going. Arthur took the lead to the cars and during the ride he did what he always did when in any moving vehicle; he sat in the back with his eyes closed and his face down and resting in his hands. He'd always been very easily dizzied whenever he was in any form of transportation, but as he got older and his ability developed more and more, his motion sickness got worse. This was pretty much the only way he could ride in something without passing out or getting utterly sick.

On patrol, Ron took his usual position up high while Arthur preferred just a normal walk down the sidewalks. He kept his hands tucked into his jacket pockets and a light smile on his face, doing his best not to take in too much unnecessary movement as he walked beside Jasper. "I wonder if it will snow for Christmas. It's great that we have it off, isn't it? I can't remember the last time they gave us a break from all this patrolling. So, that is it what Miss Jasper is hoping to get for a Christmas present this year?!" He asked curiously, a friendly smile playing over his lips. "Oh yes, that reminds me I'm going to need to get presents for Ron, and Derek, and the other girls as well. I guess I'm going to be a little busy for a while."

Christmas was one of Arthurs most favorite holidays, right next to Valintines Day and Halloween. When he was growing up, since his parents had a lot of money, his brothers and him would always get plenty of presents every year, but it was still never really a family thing. It wasn't until he met his best friend that he actually started to find meaning in the holiday. This was going to.be the first time they'd get a holiday off, so he was going to put extra effort into making it special.

Rain S. Daniels

Rain waved Ron's words away. "Don't worry about it. I'd rather you were safe with me tired." She smiled, just to show him she was fine with it.

Shaking her head in answer to Ron's question, Rain opened her mouth and was about to tell him she was fine when he pushed the piece of paper into her hand. Instead of speaking, Rain shut her mouth with a snap. Why should she tell him, he was fine, anyway? Shouldn't she have the right to voice her feelings?

After Ron left, Rain sat on her bed for a full five minutes, committing the radio channel to memory. She then carefully folded the paper and placed it inside her pillowcase.

Downstairs, she watched Jasper. She seemed fine to Rain, so Rain decided it would be safe to skip asking if she needed a once over. After waving goodbye to Jasper, Ron and Arthur, Rain turned to her own team. "All right, guys! Ready to go?"

Jasper nodded when Ron told her that they were just leaving, and she followed Arthur without a word. She was feeling better after talking to Derek, but she had quickly become frustrated again after the water bottle incident. "Deep breaths Jas, deep breaths."

She followed Ron's soft orders and took a heavy breath then let it out slowly and nodded. The simple exercises did have a profound impact on her control of her powers, but she was always too frustrated that she never thought to do it without someones instructions to do so. In most cases that someone was her longtime friend. After Ron's "gentle" squeezing on her shoulders became too much to bear, Jasper winced and shook him off. "Thanks, that's enough." She muttered, stuffing her hands into her jacket pockets before getting into the car.

She watched Arthur curiously while they were in the car. It was somewhat morbid, but she enjoyed seeing the side effects that the other's had with their powers; it made her feel less uneasy about her own issues. However, she did feel bad about how sick he looked and she awkwardly placed her hand on his back and tried to comfort him best as she knew how.

While on patrol, Jasper took her normal route with Arthur. She strayed behind, taking her time to look in the windows of the shops they passed, silently wishing she had any idea what to get the others. Christmas was coming fast, and while they all lived together and were rather close, it was startling to her how little she knew about what they all liked. It wasn't like Jasper ever had the need to buy them Christmas presents. In all honesty, Jasper knew very little about the holiday, and never really got much for it. Since her parents owned their own business, their income depended on customers and during the slump, most of their money went to her father's addiction. Even after her father's death and their unexpected rescue, they had to work hard to make ends meet and Jasper was used to skipping holidays for work. When she was old enough to actually buy presents, she spent the holiday working, so she didn't need to anyway. The stress of the thought of what to get the others was quite literally making the ends of her purple hair singe.

"I wonder if it will snow for Christmas. It's great that we have it off, isn't it? I can't remember the last time they gave us a break from all this patrolling. So, what is it what Miss Jasper is hoping to get for a Christmas present this year?! Oh yes, that reminds me I'm going to need to get presents for Ron, and Derek, and the other girls as well. I guess I'm going to be a little busy for a while."

Jasper jumped as Arthur's voice brought her back to Earth. She hadn't even realized that he had come up next to her. "I grew up in the city, Arthur, it snows almost every year." She pulled her hands out of her pockets and attempted to rub some warmth into them. "You don't need to bother getting me something, I don't want anything. Honestly, it's just nice that we'll all be able to settle down and be lazy together for once." A small smile threatened to cross her lips. "I agree, I haven't even thought of what to get anyone." She looked to Arthur, "I suppose it wouldn't be too life threatening if we make use of this time in the city and go shopping, eh? I think I brought the company card. How about you?" The only thing criminal about patrolling lately was how boring it was, she regretted not taking advantage of the time earlier. Their routes were also lined with stores and the credit cards the agency gave them was suddenly burning a hole in her pocket. "Maybe you could help me find something for everyone, what do you say?"

Ron looked down and could see Jasper and Arthur chatting it up, it looked like they were going somewhere off route. Ron was about to jump on the comm, tell them to stick to route but he figured he'd give them a break. It had been a slow month, anything they saw was usually some purse snatcher or something of the sort and he could handle that. He walked across the roof with a smile, whistling to himself as he did a hop across the gaps. He sat on one of the roofs, looking out on the street as he saw the people walk by on their daily routes. "Life is...hey, hey!" Ron looked over in mid speech and saw someone who had gave him trouble in the past. There were a gang of thieves in the city that were parkour heavy. Those people who jumped and swing like a monkey through the city. They had done quite a lot of crime in the past but because of how slick they were and moved in and out of places. Ron saw Scott, the parkour thief, was crawling out a window, if he wasn't up to something, the least Ron could do was question him. As soon as Scott saw Ron, he bolted, the chase was on.

"Come on Scott I just want to talk to you!" Ron yelled as he hopped a gap chasing after him. He was going to call for backup but he could handle this. Scott slide down a drain pipe and pushed off it running down and alley as Ron just dropped from the roof. He knew that if Scott was running this hard from him, he had to have something on him. "Move! Move! Out of the way!" Ron yelled as he passed through the crowd. Scott turned down a alley and jumped off a trash can and onto a fire escape, moving into a window. Ron barley caught a site of him as he followed and jumped up to the fire escape. Scott was standing on the other side and turned back to Ron. "Wait I was just," "Just running from me!" Ron said as he came in and pushed Scott against the way, holding him there. He searched over and found a teddy bear on him. "What the hell?" Ron said as he heard footsteps coming into the room, a little girl with long brown hair came out, she was maybe 6 years old, she was dragging a old teddy bear and rubbing her eyes. "Daddy? What's going on?" The little girl asked, Ron quickly let go of Scott, acting like he was straightening his coat. He walked over to the little girl and knelt down. "Hi there honey, what's your name?" "Caroline." She said in the sweetest voice as she looked at Ron with those big eyes. "Caroline, that's a very pretty name Caroline. I was just helping your dad get you a present for christmas." She smiled real big and tried to look past Ron. "Oh no, you don't want to ruin the suprise do you? Now you do ahead back to your room and your daddy will come get you when we are done." "Ok." She said as she hurried back down the hall.

Ron turned back Scott who was checking over the bear. "What the hell is this Scott, you get caught stealing and you are going back for 20 to 30 years. You know that!" "Look man, I don't run with the guys anymore, I got a job down at Paul's Garage, I just, I just wanted to get my daughter something for christmas and my bills are out insane and this is my first christmas with her, she's my little girl man." Ron sighed and rubbed the back of his neck. "You can't be stealing things man." "I know, I know, and I haven't this is the first thing since I got out, and the last I promise." "Damn man....fine, fine, I won't say anything. This is it though, if I catch you.." Ron was poking Scott in the chest while he talked that last thing, he had a burp, thought nothing of it, he didn't just out right burped but he swallowed it down. In doing so he caused his body to jump, like anyone else would, but with his strength, he pushed into Scott's chest, right where his heart was. Scott dropped his face going blank. "Scott? Scott!" Ron dropped down and put his ear over Scott's chest, nothing. Ron started pushing on his chest, trying to restart his heart. "Come on Scott, come on Scott, Come on dammit!" Still nothing, he pushed a little harder, he heard a snap, thinking that might have been a rib he couldn't do anything about it. He pushed and hoped he could start something, "Come on! Come on!" Ron continued for 5 more minutes, no beat came. He sat back on the floor, looking at the man laid limp on the floor. He looked at his hands and was trembling hard, he brought his trembling hands to his ear piece. "T....This is Agent R....I've had a casualty...killed by..m-my strength, I need a clean up crew at 237 frankforth...apartment 37." He said over the comm, all could hear him, his friends, Berkman, their over look crew, everyone knew that Ron just killed someone. Just then little Caroline was coming down the hall, Ron didn't know his comm was on still as he stood up and cut her off before she could see her dad. "Daddy?" "H-h-hold on Caroline, how about you show me your room, daddy is relaxing." She nodded and grabbed Ron's hand, pulling him down the hall. "M-make it a...sensitive clean up." He said before throwing the mic down. By the time they had got there, little Caroline had passed out, she must have not got much sleep. Berkman came into the room and looked down at Ron who was sitting in a corner, staring at his hands. "Ron...what did you do?" Ron just looked at his hands in shock, shaking.

"You don't need to bother getting me something, I don't want anything. Honestly, it's just nice that we'll all be able to settle down and be lazy together for once."

He looked at with with utter surprise before letting out a small sigh and shaking his finger at her. "No, no, that won't do. I'll get you a present whether you like it or not."

"I suppose it wouldn't be too life threatening if we make use of this time in the city and go shopping, eh? I think I brought the company card. How about you? Maybe you could help me find something for everyone, what do you say?"

"Now there's an idea!" He purred with a small, mischievous smile. "I doubt that anything will happen that the police can't handle themselves. Nice of them to give us money to spend however we want, no? I'd love to help you out with picking out presents, as long as you help me out too, though. An eye for an eye." He stopped walking as he turned his head from side to side, trying to pick out a good store they could go into first. There were plenty of choices in the small shopping district, but he wanted to go somewhere where they might have something for each of them. Then again, it might be better to just go to a different store for each present, that way he could spend more time with Jasper. He spotted a small shop across the street, the window already decorated with a Christmas theme and the front of it lit up. "Hm..how about that one the--"

"T....This is Agent R....I've had a casualty...killed by..m-my strength, I need a clean up crew at 237 frankforth...apartment 37."

Arthur's sentence was cut off by Ron's voice on the radio and all thoughts of spending time with Jasper instantly being pushed to the back of his mind. For a few seconds he questioned whether Ron's voice was all in his head, but that would just be silly. His eyes narrowed slightly and his happy smile quickly vanished as he reached his hand up to press the device in his ear. "What happened, Ron?" He asked, his voice serious as he did a fine job at keeping it from shaking as he asked the question. This wasn't the first time Ron had accidentally done something like this, and Arthur knew the guy would be greatly disappointed in himself for a while, but it had been such a long time. How could he have possibly lost control so easily and so quickly? "Listen, just head back and we can go over your route for you, capisce?" He said before bringing his hand back down to his side.

"You can head back too and I'll go over your route as well. I'm sure Ron would probably prefer having you around rather than any of us or the other agents." He said, glancing over at Jasper and giving her a forced smile. "We can go Christmas shopping later, deal?"

Rain S. Daniels

Rain wove her way through the crowd, her eyes darting around for signs of potential trouble. She looked just like one of the crowd doing their last-minute Christmas shopping, so she thought that she could blend in pretty well.

"T....This is Agent R....I've had a casualty...killed by..m-my strength, I need a clean up crew at 237 frankforth...apartment 37." Rain stopped short as the words crackled into her ear. "What happened, Ron?" Arthur's voice followed a couple of seconds later. "Ron, do you need me to go over?" she asked hesitantly, her voice a little higher-pitched than usual. She'd never tried reversing death before, but it was worth a try, if only to raise Ron's spirits on that particular day.

When she got no answer, however, Rain started to worry. She reached Ron's private radio channel. "Ron, you okay?" She spoke gently, hoping to comfort him.

Lauri's morning started out like any other, with a tall glass of orange juice with a piece of cinnamon toast and then a small cup of coffee just before leaving the house. She naturally took the longest to be ready to leave. Since she owned so many clothes, it was hard for her to pick which ones she wanted to wear. Finally she settled with her blue jacket, shorts, tights, and a pair of black boots that kept her feet warm. Satisfied with her outfit, she finally joined the others downstairs just before they left.

On patrol, she slightly trailed behind Derek and Rain, her hands tucked into her jacket pockets and not really focusing on what she was supposed to be doing. Hearing that they'd have Christmas day off really got her excited. One of her favorite things to do was shop, especially for others. Of course she'd end up getting them all some kind of clothing, but she found it most exciting to shop for Jasper and Rain, since she had a better feel on what to buy a girl. Just before she was about to suggest that they do some Christmas shopping, she heard Ron's voice speak into her earphone and she stopped walking.

"T....This is Agent R....I've had a casualty...killed by..m-my strength, I need a clean up crew at 237 frankforth...apartment 37."

Well, that sure wasn't expected.

"What happened, Ron?"

That time it was Arthur's voice telling Ron to head back. It wasn't unusual for the Italian to sound so perfectly calm despite the current situation. He just had a knack for seriousness.

"Ron, do you need me to go over?"

She looked forward where Rain was, the healer taking her turn to speak through the radio. The atmosphere was tense for a moment, and Lauri took this opportunity to throw herself in. She put a big smile on her face and stepped forward, throwing her right arm over Rains shoulder and her left over Dereks. "C'mon kiddies, lets go get some drinks! It's still early but, as the song goes, it's five O'clock somewhere, right?!" She said cheerfully before a sudden realization hit her and she turned her head to Rain. "That's right you're still just nineteen, huh? When are you going to turn twenty one?", She smirked before finishing her last sentence, "I wanna see what kind of drunk you are. I bet you're the cutesy/shy type, or maybe the flirty type?" She let out a small chuckle before lifting her arms from both of their shoulders and taking the lead and putting her hands back into her pockets. "Let's do some Christmas shopping!" She said, slightly turning her head to look back at them.

For now, she just wanted to get the subject away from Ron's accident. It had been a really long time since he'd last had one, so Lauri guessed the boy was taking this one pretty hard. Having a bunch of people crowd around and ask questions probably wouldn't be the best treatment. "Hurry it up!"

Derek looked off into space thinking about Ron... wow. It's been too long since something like this happened... "Ron, do you need me to go over?" He heard, but it didn't register in Derek's head. He had his thoughts focused on Ron. With all this focus, he was quite startled when Lauri wrapped her arm around him. The touching... the touching was always a problem.
"C'mon kiddies, lets go get some drinks! It's still early but, as the song goes, it's five O'clock somewhere, right?!" The girl paused. "That's right you're still just nineteen, huh? When are you going to turn twenty one? I wanna see what kind of drunk you are. I bet you're the cutesy/shy type, or maybe the flirty type?"
Derek pushed Lauri away. "I uh-"
"Hurry it up!" Lauri chimed. Derek looked at her with his ever serious expression and said, "I don't drink." Derek was just really sensitive to alcohol. One sip, and he'd be totally wasted.

---

Jason smiled hearing Ria's thought in his head. The fact that it was just in his head made him feel better. He turned his thoughts back to Van. He said they had to spy on the heroes.... could he do that? Of course. He had to. It was for a better world. He looked up at Van with a determined composure. "Just tell me when to go."

Jason felt like he needed to prove himself to Van. He got the feeling that his boss didn't think to highly of him. Jason needed to become his right hand man. This was a new start for him to be more than just Jason.

Jasper

"T....This is Agent R....I've had a casualty...killed by..m-my strength, I need a clean up crew at 237 frankforth...apartment 37."

One second Jasper was with her friend, ready to go Christmas shopping, the next she felt as if she was falling. The edges of her vision went black and her fingers struggled to grab hold of Arthur's shoulder to keep her up. This hadn't happened to Ron in so long. He was going to be devastated. She remembered back to when they first met and he had accidentally broken her hand shaking it. His goofy little kid smile turned to devastation and he turned and ran away. She hadn't seen him until months later and even after they became close friends, he was too scared to touch her for the longest time. The first time Ron actually hugged Jasper was when he saw her dad come home drunk and poured scalding hot coffee over her.

"Daddy?" "H-h-hold on Caroline, how about you show me your room, daddy is relaxing." She nodded and grabbed Ron's hand, pulling him down the hall. "M-make it a...sensitive clean up."

She clutched Arthur's shoulder tightly, volts of electricity spider webbing all around her body. He didn't seem to hear the last part of Ron's comm before it got shut off, but Jasper sure heard it. There was a child involved.

"You can head back too and I'll go over your route as well. I'm sure Ron would probably prefer having you around rather than any of us or the other agents."

Arthur's voice brought her back. She snapped out of it, and though still in a daze, she nodded at him and released her grip. "Thank you." She muttered before running as fast as her legs (still zapping with fine threads of electricity) could take her to 237 Frankfourth, apartment 37.

***

Jasper didn't even bother knocking. She was still sparking when she reached the door of apartment 37, and when she touched the metal knob, instead of shocking her, it did something to the mechanisms inside of the lock and the door swung right open without a fight.

Berkman looked up when she stepped in, but didn't say anything. He simply nodded towards a corner and her eyes followed to a dark figure huddling up, almost invisible. The electricity from her body shut off like a switch and she just stood there.

Slowly and silently, Jasper made her way to Ron and sat down next to him, waiting for him to say something, giving him time.

"She will go to a home for now, we will find a good home for her Ron, I swear on my life I will personally get that girl a family that will love her and care for her as much as possible. Ron just sat there, staring off into space, looking at the floor as he was lost in his thoughts. Caroline's voice kept ringing in his head. "Daddy? Daddy? Daddy?" Her sweet voice rang like she was right there next to him. He fought back tears as Jasper came into the room. He didn't change his line of sight or move from his seat. She sat next to him, Ron made sure that none of him was touching her. "I....I killed someone, he was a good man to, just getting a bear for little Caroline, Caroline." His eyes were welding with water but he refused to let them out. He had mess ups before, crushed a hand, put someone in the the hospital, but never killed, and a innocent man. Ron lifted his head and looked at Jasper, a happy man now torn down to that cautious little boy that wouldn't touch anyone. "How long.... How long have I been losing it, how long have I been hurting you and everyone?" He got mad that she didn't answer right away, he was a wreak. "How long!?!" He said more sternly, demanding a answer. He looked back at the floor as she talked, he thought he felt her touched him and at the first slight of touch he jumped up. "No! Don't touch me! I might put you in a comma, or, or." He stood, the water finally escaping his eyes. "Just leave me alone." He said as he went to the door, hitting the frame with his shoulder, it accidently ripping it off.

Ron left the apartment and went off the grid for a while, ditching his phone and radio so no one could follow him, he didn't want to be around anyone right now. Hours went by and Ron walked the city, it was now real late at night, 1 in the morning maybe. After getting himself together a little, he walked back to the complex and came in the kitchen, making sure not to wake up anyone and leaving the lights off. He opened the fridge and saw a six pack in the fridge, probably Lauri's. He pulled it out and popped one open, standing at the counter. I was about two in the morning now and only a beer left. Ron kept looking at the home phone on the wall and back to his beer. After about 10 minutes of contemplation, he got up and picked up the phone. "Hello? Berkman? I know, I know, I'm sorry... yea... drunk?" Ron looked back to the lonely beer. "No I'm fine..look I need you to do something for me...yea...well actually....I am serious...Berkman, please....Thank you, yea I'll pick it up Christmas eve."

Ron hung up the phone and looked at the calender next to it, it was 3 days till christmas eve, including today since it was 2 in the morning. Ron stood at the counter and finished the last beer. He then took his finger and pushed down on the top of the can, demolishing the tall boy under the pinkies strength. He look disgusted but then looked back at the calender. "3 days....."

Jasper

Jasper waited patiently. She knew how to handle Ron when he was down, just like he knew how to handle her. She sat, staring into her lap until his voice caused her to look up at him. He looked scared, the face of the little boy who accidentally broke his new best friend's hand: probably 15 years ago. It seemed so far away.

"I....I killed someone, he was a good man to, just getting a bear for little Caroline, Caroline." He looked up at her with that sad face, "How long.... How long have I been losing it, how long have I been hurting you and everyone?" She didn't know what to say and simply looked into her friend's eyes pleadingly, hoping he'd understand. He didn't, however, his face seemingly clouded by grief and rage. "How long?!" He exploded.

Shocked, Jasper jumped a bit. Anger didn't look good on Ron, she wasn't used to it. She was usually the one yelling, not the other way around, and she didn't like being on the other end of it at all. Slowly, she took a shuddering breath, "Ron, you know you've never hurt anyone, and you don't loose it. Honestly, this is the only time you've ever been like this and... I don't like it. You've only ever helped all of us at the mansion...especially me. You helped me with my d-" She reached over and gingerly attempted to touch his arm, trying to comfort him in the only way she knew how. It obviously didn't help, in fact, it did quite the opposite.

"No! Don't touch me! I might put you in a comma, or, or...Just leave me alone." He was up and out before Jasper could stop him. She walked over to the door that now hung in shambles, shaking but otherwise looking bored; a facade that she had learned to put up when she was truly hurt. She knelt down and prodded at the rubbish, finally realizing how strong her friend really was, it never struck her since he was always so gentle.

Lost in her own world, Jasper jumped sky high when Berkman placed his hand on her shoulder. However, he quickly removed it as (quite literally) a jolt from her surprise shot up his arm. She didn't bother apologizing. "Do you want me to drive you back to HQ?" He asked, rubbing his arm.

She stood up and straightened her back, looking out the door. "No, I need to go find Arthur and help him finish patrolling."

"I think you've all had enough patrolling for one day." He said as-a-matter-of-factly.

Jasper shook her head stubbornly and stepped over the wreckage, "nah, the two of us were going to go Christmas shopping."

"Jasper don't do this." He argued, but it fell on deaf ears, Jasper was already gone.

She tried calling Ron multiple times on her way to find Arthur, but after 4 miss dials from her shaking fingers, 2 phone short-circuits, and 5 voice mails, she gave up. She shouted, suddenly frustrated at herself and Ron, and the phone exploded in her hand.

"Just bloody great." The purple haired girl muttered, rubbing her newly burnt fingertips. She then decided to find a payphone and she dialed up Arthur. After finding out where he was, she quickly made her way there and found him. Upon sight of the red haired boy, Jasper began shaking ferociously, tears threatening to spill down her flushed cheeks. Emotional outbursts were hard to come by with her, but she was also never yelled at by Ron before, and therefore she felt incredibly torn.

Without thinking, she ran over to the Italian and buried her face in his chest. "C-can we g-g-go shopping now?" She hissed, crying and also angry because she was crying.

He had to admit, going on patrol alone was one of the most boring things Arthur had ever done, not to mention difficult. Doing this with the others made it much less important for him to pay attention to everything, but now he had to keep his eye on anything that might look suspicious and that caused a bit of a slight throb in his temples. He'd first finished his own patrol, then Jaspers, and was about half way through Ron's when he finally decided to stop and take a breather and close his eyes for a bit. There hadn't been any news from Ron or Jasper for a few hours now, and he was starting to get a little anxious. Though, he was mostly worried about what the higher-ups would think of Ron's accident once they found out. They were already being threatened to be shut down, but so far had done a wonderful job at keeping up with the demands, but with Ron's accident..it could really leave a bad impression.

"M-make it a...sensitive clean up."

He let out a sigh. Whoever Ron accidentally killed was an innocent person, which just made things worse. Alright, enough of that, he thought to himself, bringing up his hand and lightly smacking his cheek as he opened his eyes again. He put his hand back into his jacket pocket and turned around on the sidewalk, ready to continue patrolling when Jasper suddenly latched onto him and buried her face into his chest. That was one of the last things he was expecting to happen and he was quite surprised at first, but quickly became concerned for her when he felt something wet soak through his sweater. Jasper was actually crying?

"C-can we g-g-go shopping now?"

Arthur hesitated a moment, even more concerned now that he heard the shakiness in her voice. What happened to the stubborn, strong Jasper? The only reason he could think of for why she'd get like this was if Ron did something to upset her. Arthur knew the guy would be in a shocked state right now, but to take it out on Jasper. That idiot..

Finally he was able to give her an understanding smile and he lightly hugged her. "Definitely. You've got to help me pick out a present for Ron, after all." He said before bringing his hand up to his ear. "Hey, guys, Jasper and I are going to go Christmas shopping, you might as well too. I think we've done enough patrolling for the day."

-----

They didn't spend a lot of time shopping, let alone talking, but Arthur kept up his happy act the entire time despite that. He was still furious with Ron for causing Jasper to fall into such an emotional sate, and he'd get an ear full from him the next time he'd see the guy. For now though, he tried to keep the mood as light and positive as he could, every now and then trying to reassure Jasper that Ron would be alright after h got some alone time. In the end he managed to get a gift for Ron, with the help of Jasper of course, and one for Lauri as well, though he still needed to find something for Rain and Derek.

When they got home Arthur would've cooked something up, but since he'd used up a lot of space in his brain and a head ache was already bothering him an hour before, they just brought home Chinese and he quickly headed up to his room, telling Jasper that she should get some sleep in the process. Once he was alone, his happy act quickly dropped and he found himself feeling rather frustrated that Ron still hadn't been home yet and they weren't able to get a hold of him either. If his head wasn't throbbing so horribly he probably would've waited up for him, but instead he quickly changed into boxers and a t-shirt and it didn't take long at all for him to fall asleep, tucking away Ron and Lauri's gifts before he did so.

Rain jumped when Lauri suddenly slung her arms around Rain's shoulders. Still slightly dazed, she listened as Lauri babbled on and on about drinking. Finally, when Lauri mentioned Christmas shopping, Rain came back to her senses. "Well, I already bought everything, so I don't really need to shop..." she said quietly, wondering how Lauri could be so happy when a death had just occurred.

Still, she managed to keep her wits about her, following Lauri and Derek around the mall. Luckily, her shopping was already finished, so not much input was expected from her. Finally, the three of them returned home. Without another word, Rain trudged to her bedroom and was sprawled on her bed without even changing. She'd think of a way to comfort Ron later, but for now, it was time to let the day's events be lost in dream.

Jasper

After a while, Jasper had calmed down and was back into the emotionless mask that she had put on for Berkman back at apartment 37. She stayed quiet as her and Arthur wandered up and down the streets and through stores, her hands stuffed in her pockets and her jaw clenched with pent up emotion. She just followed Arthur's lead and helped him pick out a gift for Ron.

Near the end of the trip, she began feeling better, a combination of the Italian's therapeutic smiles and the fact that she finally had gifts for everyone. One less thing for Jasper to stress over. They entered a fancy looking clothing store and she separated herself from her friend to find something for Rain. She loved to see Rain in the color pink, and quickly found a nice sundress (on clearance because of the fact that it was winter), and an outfit that was more or less made for comfort. When she was contempt with what she got for rain, she met back with Arthur and went to buy Derek a gift card for an expensive resturaunt, Ron a fuzzy frog hat that matched her own panda one, Lauri a new deep blue and white starburst electric guitar. However, Jasper was at a loss for what to get Arthur. She decided to ask him what he wanted later, too tired to do any more shopping.

Once they were home, Jasper took her Chinese muttered a goodnight to Arthur before he went up to his room. She didn't listen to his suggestion to go to bed, and instead shuffled her way into the living room, removing her scarf, jacket, and boots on her way and leaving them on the floor in her path. Jasper sat down on the couch and crossed her legs before turning the tv on and half listening to a horror movie that was on while eating. As some point her lizard, Booze, made his way on top of her heat and curled up in her hair. Once her food was gone, it didn't take long until she began falling asleep as well. She placed the take out container on the floor and lay down on the couch, giving into sleep just as the main protagonist of the movie was about to be sawed in half.

Ron looked at the calender and the can for a good 30 minutes, he pushed off the counter, leaving cracked imprints in the marble from his fingers. He stumbled out of the kitchen and was about to go down the hall when he saw the trail of things to the living room. He followed the trail to see a sleeping jasper on the couch. Ron tried to sit down next to the couch but really he just fell as quiet as possible. "Uh Shh hshssshhhh..." He said looking over at Booze. "Damn loud reptile..." He said as he put his hands on his face, trying to wipe away how tired he was. He looked at Jasper and wanted to shake her awake, knowing he would get yelled at and a good thunder slap to his cheek. His hand hovered over her but he quickly took it away. "I...I don't want to hurt you Jas... I know now that you haven't been telling me that it hurts." He looked at his hand and pinched himself, to his skin it was a normal pinch but he couldn't imagine what something like that would do to someone. "I hurt everyone, I thought I had it under control. I fixed the problem of today though, Caroline will be in a good home." He nodded and looked down into his lap, the emotions and beer starting to mix. "I'm just not going to touch anyone, that ought to be fine right? I don't need to be with Rain, I probably would have just hurt her anyways, she can find someone better than me I'm sure. You don't have to hang around with me either, why would you want to be around someone who hurts you if he looks the wrong way." Ron didn't look up, he didn't want to see her face, even if she was sleeping. He was so, afraid, he was horrified of what he was, he was scared of loosing his friends. He put his hand on the cushion near her face and moved himself until he had laid down next to the couch. He slowly drifted off to sleep.

A few hours later he had gotten up real quick to go puke, it had been a long time since he had drank. He threw up a few times in the bathroom, flushing it down. He came back out into the hallway, dragging his hand along the way to keep him from falling. He saw the alarm modual on the wall and opened it up. "Please present passcode." Ron rubbed his head as he tried to think but the machine kept repeating itself. Ron finally punched the wall remote, knocking it out and ripping the wires to the system. Supprisingly the alarms didn't go off, "I told them the alarm was to damn loud..." He said with a straight face as he walked back to the kitchen, taking the coffee pot, no doubt fresh maid from the housekeeper. He poured a cup, black, and was about to drink it when he noticed the finger prints he made in the marble. "ughhhh.... I can't touch a damn thing." Thankfully his cup was made out of thick steel so his pinkie wasn't going to destroy it. He sat at the table, not bothering with the news this morning.

Rain S. Daniels

Rain tossed and turned all night, unable to sleep a wink. She couldn't stop thinking about Ron, how distraught he had seemed when he had reported the death. Finally, she gave up, lying on her side and staring out the window at the twinkling stars. How ironic. Yesterday night I was desperate to get out of sleep. Today, I'd give anything to sleep for a couple of hours.

In the early hours of the morning, Rain got up, figuring that there was no need to lie there anymore. She put on a turtleneck sweater and jeans, and went downstairs.

The kitchen was in darkness. Rain flicked the switch, only to see a figure sitting at the counter. She shrieked softly and jumped backwards, then realised that it was Ron. "Ron..." she said quietly, stepping forward. She carefully put a small hand on his shoulder, trying to comfort without words.
