Introduction

"Bear with me lass, the tale I tell is no lie. It's no fairy laden story from your childhood, no girly, this is a legend, not a myth. And I will cut the tongue from your mouth if you say, there be no difference." The captain stood before her, basking in the dim glow of the candle light. The room she stayed in was small and cozy, better than anything the streets had to offer her.

"Back in the old day's, much older than even meself, these miserable floating dirt piles they call Islands were once gorgeous and lavishly painted with plants. Some of them even had lakes."

"Lakes?" asked the girl, unaware of what the mysterious word referred to. The captain laughed a whole-hearty laugh, deep and jolly. The old man stroked is beard for a moment.

"Lakes, are big puddles of water that are alway's there. Not like anything you've ever seen in that old rust-bucket you call a city. You see a long time ago, people got their water from the earth below instead of harvesting the clouds."

She imagined the lake but was unsure of what she had pictured was anything like the real thing. The Captain was right, she was only familiar with the steel plates that made up the sky cities. Her only memories were of the cold streets that she would roam all alone. Clean water was hard to come across in the lower districts. She had never explored the cloud sea, the floating rocks that rose from the "old-lands" below the cloud cover, deep in the miasma. She was simply a bird whose wings had not yet grown enough for her to fly, and the nest was her whole world. That is until the captain came along.

The Story

About three thousand years ago a cataclysmic event caused the destruction of the world. The earth became coated in a thick miasma, a poisonous and corrosive air that brought death to anything that was exposed to it. Out of nowhere the poison had begun to seep from deep inside the planet, causing destruction with earthquakes as the air pushed it's way into the surface. Frightened of their impending doom the people of the earth looked to their greatest minds for salvation.

A year later a professor named Alexander Belmont, brought forward blue prints for massive ships that would carry the people to safety. The ships would float to the sky above the reach of the deadly poison. There they would wait out the suffering, wait for the earth to become pure again so that they could return to their beloved homeland. At first people were skeptical, and rejected his idea. After many trial and error experiments he finally succeeded in creating a functioning model. He took the model to his country leaders who provided funding for the project and allowed for him to build a fully functional life size ship. People were amazed by his scientific genius and adopted his idea as their best chance of survival.

The ships were built and took in as many people as they could before lifting up into the sky. Many people were left behind, many of which were Elves because they were not seen as equals to the Humans. As the ships rose one by one they watched as the miasma created thick clouds, covering the atmosphere and blocking their view of their previous home. The clouds grew on top of each other, creating a thick shield that prevented the miasma from reaching the ships.

After a while the ships prepared to sail back down, but were greeted by a strange sign. Floating rock islands that carried parts of cities and towns, or parts of forest or mountains. The captains and political leader's from all the ships held a meeting to discuss the meaning. Scientists figured the miasma had broken up the earth and disrupted its magnetic poles, and a certain ore within the rock caused the islands to lift up into the sky due to impossibly strong magnetic forces. They believed that there would be no return to their previous home. They then discussed what their future plans would be.

After the meeting people began to gather what they could from these rising islands, that would sometimes disappear below the cloud cover. They added to the ships combining them together, creating cities carriers of civilization which hovered above the surface of the adequately named Cloudsea. The cities took on specific roles, whether they were farming colonies that grew food for the cities, housing and urban cities meant to house as many people as possible, or military colonies to train the protective forces of the sky cities. They became a new people, created allegiances, new governments, a new world. Novus-Terra.

For many year's the cities grew, created new inventions like robots meant to serve many purposes, as well as building many smaller sky-ships resembling the size and shape of their previous boats. The world went on a steady climb of prosperity for a while, but the longer things dragged on the worse things became.

Thieves known as sky pirates began to show up, they harassed the military by attacking their ship from below the cloud cover. As well as the occasional commandeering of ships simply to take their supplies. The pirates became a bigger presence in the world and helped inspire a sense of exploration amongst many of the people. After a much longer time, the supplies that the sky-cities provided were no longer able to keep up with the demands of ever-growing populations.

Now cities are covered in grime, populations so high that resources are a major issue, and crime is becoming rampant and common.
The cities are experiencing many problems, and have no solution for how to solve them. The prosperity age of the sky-cities is faded.
What will become of the world?

A ship know as the Daedalus has appeared looking for adventurer's who are willing to go on a great expedition into the Cloudsea and look for ways to solve the problems of today. Are you up to the challenge?

Synopsis

The world Of Novus-Terra, is a world in the sky. The people of the world escaped a deadly and corrosive air that began to cover the world by fleeing to the sky. After learning that they might never get to return home the ship inhabitants reformed their thoughts. They recovered scraps and debris, that floated up to the sky due to a strange magnetic force that was caused by the miasma. The additions to the ships became so large that multiple ships came together and became cities.

The world exist purely in the sky, no land except for the floating islands where most of the resources that created the sky-cities came from. Now the world faces a time period filled with struggle. Governments have become monarchies, and have strong segregation of the classes. The resources that they relied on are becoming scarce and conflict is beginning between sky-cities.

Pirates are attacking merchant ships and supply frigates, taking whatever they can to ensure their own survival. The population of the cities has become very high, and living conditions have become very poor. A few cities have fallen below the clouds, and an influx of wanderer's, people with no permanent residence in one city, has created crime within the cities.
The last thing, is that one of the two original races that came to the skies is dying out. Elves, who faces extreme prejudice and are often traded as slaves, are becoming few and far between.

The Sky Cities

Many sky cities have become corrupt favoring the strong and leaving little to the weak. The cities have been separated into three districts.

The Noble district is populated by High ranking military officer's political leaders, Highly regarded scholars and the wealthiest of businessmen. It is by far the smallest district and usually exists at the very top of the sky cities. They have the purest and cleanest water, the cleanest air and the most living space, but few people ever get to see this district.

The Central district is the largest of the three and is composed of many parts, the most important being the docks where ships come and go, large trading centers and housing quarters, hospitals, schools, military barracks, and recreational facilities. Mostly though this areas focus is that of commerce.

The Lower district is the second largest but nowhere near as big as the central district. Because of the shape of sky cities the lower district receives less light than the others, creating a dark and gloomy appearance. This section is mostly populated by the poor, and the people who run maintenance of the city. The living conditions are severely affected by all the machineries in which weapons and ships are built, the high crime rates, and risk of pirate attacks. being the lowest level all the water they get has already been recycled from the above districts and is rarely clean.

The Elves
As stated before the elves are a scarce and dying race. Their history is lined with prejudice and discrimination. Treated as inferior to humans they have been the victims of many crimes and cruel punishment. Many of them are slaves, fated to work in servitude for the rest of their life. Elves that want to avoid being enslaved must apply and pay for Freedom Checks, which are documents that state that they are free citizens and are allowed the rights of any human, although discrimination usually prevents them from being able to have the same accommodations as a human. Many Elves use their fabled intellect to work in the fields of science and machinery. Some even becoming wealthy inventors and highly regarded scholars, although the chances of that are very, very slim.
Human relationships with elves are looked down upon so cross species partnerships are rare. Halfbloods can find it even harder to live than elves, because of their human blood they cannot be enslaved but it is hard for them to find any social acceptance.

Lyle stared at the suspicious men with his fists up. They sure didn't look like honest men. And Lyle could tell the difference. He'd spent half his life in the clutches of nuns and ladies and men who carried themselves with a smug self-satisfied air. They had been considered the most moral and wonderful people just because they appeared to take care of orphans. Those were "good, honest" people. On the other hand, the rest of his life had been spent on a pirate ship. They always had a crafty look in their eyes, or a dull, belligerent glare. These people kind of seemed like the latter. Except without the confidence of being completely evil. Look how they had jumped at Rikki!

He laughed as well when Rikki threatened them. His, however, had been of delight. Any doubts that Rikki was clearly an awesome person had been totally cleared up. That was a real clever threat!

Lyle shot the suspicious men a glare and trailed after Rikki. When he remembered that the deck was really slippery, he decided to kamikaze it. He charged and crashed into the railing, scrabbling to keep his balance.

"Who're they? Those guys look stupid," he muttered, half to himself and half to Rikki.

He was pretty surprised at Rikki's stomach growling. He glanced up at Rikki's face. She seemed to be immersed in thought again. "Eh, Miss's Rikki? R' ye hungry?" He suddenly realized that if she had been sleeping for a whole week, that means that she hadn't eaten for a week!

Re: [OOC] Gunship: Freedom

OK I decided to recreate the Rp page. Here's the link to the Gunship revival.

http://www.roleplaygateway.com/roleplay/gunship-true-beginnings/

Re: [OOC] Gunship: Freedom

Unfortunately, this is very true. I really liked this one too! D:

Re: [OOC] Gunship: Freedom

Oh god. Are you serious? ._.

Well then. When you were gone, we were completely at a loss as to what was going to happen next. Posting slowed to a crawl, and all the players started abandoning ship. We proposed a subplot to keep us entertained until you returned, but unexplained player disappearances left the few surviving active players stranded and unable to continue. We were all for abandoning ship and just starting a reboot, but you came back. Which we're really glad of, but...

Long story short, this rp is dead.

Re: [OOC] Gunship: Freedom

Ahem........ uh..... heyyy.... sorry for pulling a Houdini and vanishing for so long, I ended up getting really busy with stuff... and things, and I kinda forgot about roleplay geteway. Anyways what I'm trying to say is... well what did I miss?

Re: [OOC] Gunship: Freedom

........

Anyways, seems like all the active people agree. I think you're clear to go, River! Just link it here so stragglers can find it. XD

Re: [OOC] Gunship: Freedom

Not that I'm complaining, but what makes me so special to GM the reboot? ;3

If everybody agrees with Kaze, then I'll get it up as soon as possible.

Re: [OOC] Gunship: Freedom

Reboot is fine, though if we could just copy and paste our characters that'd be awesome- I don't particularly want to create a new character... >.>

Re: [OOC] Gunship: Freedom

Ugh. Well I think we're all waiting on Jacopo. But I know for certain that he's not on this site anymore (I go to school with him, apparently he's got more important things to do now. >_>). But I fully support a reboot.

And I vote River as GM.

Re: [OOC] Gunship: Freedom

I'm still here! I haven't lost my internet yet! I'm all for a reboot, but I can't promise that I'll be able to post after I lose my internet. I'll try though!

Re: [OOC] Gunship: Freedom

I hate when good role plays die like this. Even if Ark comes back, I don't think any amount of CPR will bring it back... Hopefully, he will attempt at a reboot if he sees some of us are still faithful. Otherwise, there's not much we can do unless we can collaborate on a reboot of our own.

Re: [OOC] Gunship: Freedom

I liked this RP, so sad that it seems to have just stopped D: I'd post but I have no idea what to say and my last post is pretty high up on the tab

Re: [OOC] Gunship: Freedom

Well... We really have no option left but to attempt at a complete reboot, I think... I dunno even if anybody is willing anymore, though...

Re: [OOC] Gunship: Freedom

So I'm losing my internet...

Re: [OOC] Gunship: Freedom

We did try to set up a mini-adventure to at least keep us occupied until such a time came when Ark might come back, but something must've gotten lost in translation and nothing has come of it thus far...

Re: [OOC] Gunship: Freedom

I kind wish I knew where Ark lived. Then I could go over there and smack him upside the head for abandoning us! *rage rage rage*

Re: [OOC] Gunship: Freedom

I am going to be very upset if this role play has died... >_>
