Jack-009
(Records indicate that this is not the operative's original designation; however, no indication exists as to any former names.)
Age
Chronological Age: 53
(Due to nature of Spartan-II augmentations, operative appears around 38 years of age.)
Date of Birth
January 5th, 2511
Sex
Male
Sexual Orientation
Known to have previously been in a relationship with Jenna-002 following temporary escape from SPARTAN-II program; exact details unknown, but believed to be romantic in nature. Following the operative euthanising Jenna-002 immediately prior to re-entering SPARTAN-II program, operative has displayed no attraction whatsoever to any individual and appears to only consider gender a difference in how to kill. After hormone treatment was believed to be a success, operative sexuality is considered N/A.

Physical Overview
Body Type
Extreme musculature; not overly built, however. Noted for being in the eightieth percentile of SPARTAN-II operatives in terms of raw strength; when armoured, operative observed as capable of causing incapacitative damage to an M808B 'Scorpion' Main Battle Tank while completely unarmed.
Complexion
Last time operative removed armour was approximately [239] days ago. As such, operative complexion inhumanly pale; direct exposure to sunlight causes extreme sunburn within roughly four minutes.
Voice Type
Deep baritone voice; the faintest elements of an Earth-based British accent are detectable. While capable of speaking very eloquently, the operative rarely does so, usually talking little.
Blood Type
AB
Distinguishable Markings
Operative has sustained numerous scars over his entire body; plasma burns, bullet wounds and knife cuts. The only unaccounted-for scar is one across the palm of the right hand; an identical scar was found upon the left hand of the corpse of Jenna-002. Attempts to gather data as to its origin or meaning have been stonewalled.
Dossier
Artificial Intelligence
Note - unusually for a SPARTAN-II, operative has explicitly requested not to be issued with a 'Smart' AI; when questioned, subject expressed concerns about 'sanctity of mind', and upon insistence of handlers, threatened extreme violence. As such, armour includes only a simple 'Dumb' AI used primarily for calculating firing solutions.
Rank
N/A; operative is utilised within independent Office of Naval Intelligence cell, and answers solely to that cell and ONI High Command. Rank is therefore considered irrelevant.
Psychological Assessment
(discussion between handlers - dated 29/12/63)
"Unfortunately, Jack is showing no signs of stabilising. Managed to get him talking for a while, but he still strikes me as distinctly untrustworthy. He discussed philosophy extensively - particularly, the nature of free will. I think he's trying to tell us something."
"He's dangerous. Look at what he did forty years ago. I can't help but get the feeling that he's getting ready to stick a knife in all of our backs."
"That's why we use him, though. Don't forget that. His actions then were why we transferred him."
"Still don't trust him. We should get rid of him before he kills one of us, or worse."
"He's not a threat. He lost Jenna - as he said in the interview, he's got nothing left. He has no further reason to betray us. Doesn't make him any less unpredictable, though."
"You reckon Parangosky just wanted a mad dog on a leash to threaten the other divisions with?"
"Perhaps. But I don't think he's mad. Not as we think of madness. He's angry, yes, hates everything. Hates the world. Hates us. Hates the Covies more than us, which is why he's here. I think he knows that we know all of this, though. He's dangerous, aggressive, bordering on Hyper-Lethal classification by now. But he's not crazy. Any impression otherwise is just what he wants us to think, if you ask me."
"You honestly don't think he broke, after everything that happened with Jenna?"
"No. No matter what the file says, I think he's perfectly sane. Always has been. And, to tell you the truth, that's what scares me."
- Extraordinarily skilled marksman; has been observed terminating targets freehand with an SRS-99 from well in excess of 2km away. -
- Noted for exceptional skill in tactical planning and approaching situations. Operative always has multiple contingencies for any eventuality. -
Weaknesses
- Operative was never trained to deal with other individuals in any meaningful fashion. Social interaction remains an extreme difficulty. -
- Operative is considered extremely unstable, even for a SPARTAN-II. The operative's usefulness mitigates this, but he is not to be trusted. -
- Operative's physical abilities are beginning to significantly degrade with age; SPARTAN-IIs were never designed to stay in service for 40 years. -
- Operative has been observed to have extreme difficulty with vehicles. Comments from passengers indicate that the operative 'drives like crazy'. -
Equipment
- Full suit of MJOLNIR Mk. V powered assault armour; while outdated, newer models of armour are much harder to customise and repair than the heavily-standardised Mark V platform. This specific set has been customised to closely resemble the outdated Mk. IV variant; this is both due to the user's personal aesthetic Only one unauthorised element is noted - scratched onto the left pauldron are the words 'Mechanised Memories'. Operative has refused to comment. -
- Favours an SRS-99-S5 Anti-MateriΓ©l Rifle. Operative is known to heavily customise his rifle depending on the mission; the most common configuration is a shortened barrel and removed scope; while mitigating use at extreme range, the weapon is instead used as a battle rifle instead of a sniper rifle, and the operative's great marksmanship ability and experience with the weapon allows for surprising accuracy at range. Due to the highly durable action, the weapon can be used as a bludgeon, something which the operative appears to do with rather alarming frequency. Noted for chambering experimental depleted uranium-cored armour-piercing rounds; exact details are sketchy, but remaining project files indicate that rounds were explicitly designed for penetrating MJOLNIR-issue armour plating. -
- Other than the operative's custom SRS-99, most equipment is procured on-site; favoured weaponry includes an MA37 assault rifle, dual M7S Suppressed SMGs or an M6 Grindell-Galilean Nonlinear Rifle. The operative also carries a machete cast of solid tungsten on one thigh. -
- Lastly, the operative carries a second pair of dog-tags; the only existing close-up image of these tags indicates that they previously belonged to Jenna-002. The only attempt thus far to remove these tags from his person ended in fourteen casualties. Operative was disciplined and no such attempt has taken place since. -
Biography
The operative (now known as 'Jack') was born in UNSC space in early 2511, well before First Contact. An extremely promising candidate for the SPARTAN-II program, he was noted not only for exceptional physical ability, but also for a total apparent disregard for rules imposed upon him by others; operative was observed engaging in fisticuffs with teachers on several occasions. While usually considered a negative trait in a SPARTAN, Jack was considered a lone experiment - to see if such traits could be moulded into an effective combatant.
Kidnapped at age six, like all other candidates, Jack quickly showed promise as a combatant, learning quickly and proving exceptionally capable in both marksmanship and hand-to-hand drills. However, problems arose frequently, and he found himself extremely often on the receiving end of disciplinary action by instructors; when assigned to one team, Jack would frequently fight on behalf of the other for no apparent reason. While it was expected that this would be beaten out of him by the course, this was not the case; while the number of instances decreased significantly, the remaining instances increased notably in severity, including being implicated in the death of one instructor, although confirmation was never located. Discharge from the program was considered, but ultimately refused; these exact traits also made Jack an exceptionally skilled tactician, often approaching exercises in ways instructors had not anticipated to achieve crushing victories over the opposition. From an early age, he became extremely close friends with operative Jenna-002; this emotional attachment quickly became risky, but attempts to separate the two failed in rather spectacular fashion.
The augmentation procedures appeared at first to have worked perfectly on Jack, although this was later confirmed to not be the case, with several hormone suppression drugs failing to take effect, leading to potentially dangerous emotional attachments (as happened during Incident: HOMECOMING). The operative served admirably in his first few deployments; despite fears of subverting orders, Jack completed the missions with extraordinary efficiency, if not always in the method instructed. Notably, the operative displayed exceptional aptitude against human opponents, well beyond that displayed when fighting Covenant forces; the reason for this is unknown, but the operative showed absolutely no hesitation or remorse when in combat against human targets, even beyond the expected parameters.
The most notable incident involving Jack occurred when he was at age fifteen, following his third combat operation, two months after the augmentation procedures. In a highly unexpected move, he - along with six other operatives, including Jenna-002 and Daisy-023 - broke out of the SPARTAN-II training facility on Reach. He and Jenna were separated from the others in the ensuing firefight, and made their way to a spaceport in Aszod, where he and Jenna hijacked a civilian freighter. Jack massacred the entire crew without hesitation, and quickly escaped the planet; before pursuit could be initiated, the craft jumped to the Outer Colonies, and completely disappeared off the grid.
Very little is known of what happened over the next six months. The Office of Naval Intelligence's Section Zero division spent billions of credits attempting to hunt down the missing SPARTANs, but they proved far more difficult to capture than anticipated; unlike Daisy and the other SPARTANs, Jenna and Jack made no attempt to contact their biological parents, and eluded Section Zero operatives for some time. What is known is that the two moved very frequently, and entered an extremely close emotional relationship; the exact nature of this relationship remains unknown, as Jack has refused to comment, but it is believed to have been at least partially romantic in nature.
The two were eventually located on Aegis Luminous in 2526; while a heavily-armed ONI retrieval team was inbound, the outer colony was attacked by a small Covenant invasion force deployed from a CCS-Class Battlecruiser. A Covenant platoon located the pair in a small house in the marshes; when they attempted to enter, Jack proceeded to counter with civilian-grade weaponry, and held off the patrol for the best part of two hours until the ONI team arrived. Jack initially fired upon the retrieval team, but promptly retreated inside the house; when ONI operatives cautiously entered the house, they simply found Jack sitting on the floor of the bedroom, sidearm in his hand. Jenna was lying upon the bed, having been killed by a single gunshot through the chest. Physical analysis revealed severe muscular degradation as a result of augmentation rejection; approximately two weeks prior to the invasion, she would have lost the ability to move under her own power. At the sight of the team, Jack stood, dropping the handgun.
"I'm done. Take me home."
After these words, he offered no resistance; he was taken back briefly to Reach, but instead of being re-entered into the SPARTAN-II project, he was instead assigned to the Office of Naval Intelligence as an 'independent specialist' due to the initiative displayed during his escape. After much debate and significant re-indoctrination, he was moved to an Office of Naval Intelligence training facility in deep space, where he in addition to standard combat training, he was issued extensive training in assassination and terrorism.
He proceeded to perform as expected, proving an extremely effective operative over the next twenty-seven years of the Human-Covenant War. Due to the nature of his operations, no awards were ever formally issued, but he is believed to be singlehandedly responsible for roughly four thousand human casualties and around two thousand Covenant casualties. Thus far, the operative has continued to operate independently; most orders are transmitted in the form of a simple objective, with methods left up to his own judgement.
However, following the end of the war, problems began to arise; the operative proved highly difficult to control when not in combat, growing restless and often engaging in combat with handlers, with expectedly bloody results. Jack's behaviour has become extremely unpredictable since then, with violent mood swings and frequently-changing opinions. Thusly, the current priority is fielding the operative as much as possible and procuring a replacement before he ceases to follow orders entirely, at which point the operative will be terminated with extreme prejudice.
