Halloween night, almost midnight, the air is cold and brisk, as a breeze blows past the group of teenagers, huddled around a fire in the middle of the field, the empty palace looming over them a couple hundred feet away. A male breaks the semi-silence with his laughter.

Mark Weber

Mark laughed, at the silly ghost story that the girls were telling. "That ghost story is nothing," he said as he leaned in closer to the fire. "Have you guys heard the true ghost story about the good old, abandoned palace over there?" he asked as he pointed a finger over at the empty palace. He looked at the girls intently, waiting for their responses.

Arthur Faustus

Arthur woke up quietly in his bedchamber, rubbing his eyes sleepily as he pushed himself up to a sitting position. He stretched quietly as he stood up on the cold floor of the room and walked over to the wardrobe quietly, fumbling through it in the dark for his suit. Finding his suit, he pulled it out and walked over to the bed, placing it on his bed quietly. He changed quickly, now wearing a simple black suit that fitted his form flatteringly, with a black button-up shirt and a black tie. He pulled on his sleek, black shoes quietly. He moved over to his nightstand, pulling out a small box of matches out of the drawer, and lighting the small candle. He lit the rest of the candles in his room quietly, illuminating it in the soft, wavering glow of the candle-light. He walked over to the window quietly, looking out at the field and ocean.

Zelda stuck her tongue out at Mark as he laughed at their story. He would be the one to laugh at their story, though she did have to admit that it was kinda funny. When he mentioned the ghost story of the palace she looked straight at him. "Well which version do you know cause I've heard several?" She asked him with a small laugh. She didn't believe any of the stories though and didn't think she ever would.

Sammie laughed at Zelda's reaction to Mark. She gathered in closer to speak to her friends as if someone were listening. "I heard that there is still someone living there. Some even say that they have seen people walking around outside, but I pass by here all the time and I have never seen anyone." She leaned away from the fire, as the flames were making her face hot. "My brother said that his friend's brother went to the house and never came back, I heard he was just sent to military school though."

Mark looked at both of them, laughing at Sammie's remark. "I heard that the 'Prince' murdered his father and became the most evil ruler that the kingdom had. The villagers revolted, slaughtering the 'Prince', and his soul seeks revenge on all who dare to cross his path, and prevent him from being King." Mark smirked, as he looked at the girls. "But that's the story I heard anyways," he said looking up at the palace. "Guys, look there's a light on in the second story and there's someone in there. I'm not kidding," he said, his eyes widening slightly as he pointed to the illuminated window, where the silhouette of Arthur was visible.

Zelda listened to both Sammie and Mark tell their stories and she still believed none of them. She still didn't even believe it when she saw the light and the figure. Sure it spooked her a little, but she figured it had to be someone they knew trying to scare them and that irritated her to no end. "Well then shall we go see if the stories are true? I mean if none of you all are scared to." She said as she stood up. With the last sentance she got really close to both Mark and Sammie and gave them a creepy smile. She really could be creepy when she wanted to be which actually wasn't very often. She began walking towards the castle and after a few steps turned around to walk backwards and see if anyone was coming.

Mark smiled and stood up following Zelda. "You can count me in," he said as he stopped when she stopped to look back. He shot a glance back at Sammie, "You coming or are you too chicken?" With his question he gave a small laugh, placing his hands in his pockets.

Arthur Faustus

Arthur noticed the group of teenagers and watched them quietly, noticing two of them stand up and look back at the third. Arthur walked to his door, carrying his small candlestick and walking out into the hallway quietly. He walked down the stairs and into the kitchen to find something to eat. He searched through the cabinets for something quick. Sighing as he found nothing quick to eat, he lit a few more candles, giving the room enough light so that he could cook himself some 'breakfast'.

Ivan was panting heavily as he sprinted through the field. He smirked as the others came into view, his strides padded against the ground with light 'thuds'. He, with a wave above his head, called, "Hey! Wait up for me!" His long, quick strides faded into a slower pace, then finally to a quick walk as he gained ground on the three. He smiled again at Sammie, Mark, and Zelda before taking a breath, "Sorry I'm late. I just passed out at the house, been asleep for a few." He shrugged in a 'What can you do' manner, "Anyway, you guys get all scary without me? Or should I be prepared to wet myself in frivolous terror?" He said with a large hint of sarcasm.

Sammie stood up and walked over to Mark and Zelda. "Mark when have I ever been to 'chicken' to do anything?" She grabbed Zelda's arm "Let's go!" As she started walking off, Ivan came running up to them. "Well Ivan we have decided what our terror for the night is. We are going to the palace, because there is a light on see." As she pointed to the window she noticed the light was gone. "Where did it go?"

"Well you know, all the scaring you've done, may have gotten to you, you never know." Mark laughed at her comment, looking over at the palace and noticing the light was now in a different place, "I told you that the ghost was there. Look the light's over there now." He pointed over to the first floor near the end of the palace. "The ghost is getting restless," he said, smirking at his comment. "So Ivan, you up for this?" he asked, raising an eyebrow at Ivan, waiting for his response.

Zelda looked at Ivan as he joined them, she was getting anxious now to head into the castle. She looked back at where the light was and did find it a little creepy that it was gone now.and someplace else. She still refused to let it frighten her. When she had Mark as a friend wh liked to scare them she was beginning to become immune to being scared so easily.

She loomed back at Mark and laughed a little at his comment. "Oh come off it Mark, it's probably Johnny or someone trying to get us back for.scaring them before." She said with a small laugh. True she didn't like people purposely trying to scare her, but she was guilty of pulling pranks on others and helping Mark out with some of his tricks too. She found it rather fun to do honestly.

She then looked back at Sammie with a smile. "Come on Sammie, let's be the first ones in the castle and prove to these guys that we're not scarred." She said as she began skipping towards the castle, encouraging Sammie to skip with her. She was feeling a little childish and hyper at the moment.

Mark looked over at Zelda, smirking slightly, "Eh I would think that too but Johnny's grounded, so he can't." He stretched slightly and followed Zelda towards the castle. "Anyways, I think that we should go check out the room with the light first, see what we can find. What do you guys say?" he asked as he gave a look to Zelda, Sammie and Ivan.

Arthur Faustus

Arthur finished cooking his 'breakfast' and sat down at the small table, eating his food quietly. He looked around the kitchen quietly, feeling alone for the billionth time that week. He quickly finished his food, placing the dishes in the sink, and picked up his candle, walking out of the room towards the entrance hall. Arthur yawned quietly as he walked down the long hallway to the entrance hall.

Sammie gave Mark a funny look. "Well that would make sense but what if the light moves again before we get there?" She walked next to Mark, following Zelda. She glanced back and saw that Ivan was still behind them. "Come on slow poke, don't you know that the last one in is the first to die!"
That was Sammie's version of 'the last one in is a rotten egg' She started to run after Zelda making sure she wasn't the last one in.

Ivan blinked at Sam as his hands came up to rest atop his head and a smirk spreading across his face, "Oh goody! I love the thought of me dying at this hour!" He would give a sigh as he took off, running to catch up with Sammie and Zelda, "Well, I should be in the back then, right? You know since I am going to die first and don't want you all to be dragged into the belly of the beast with me." He shook his head, a smirk still plastered across his face.

"Well then we follow it ditz," Mark said with a smile, chasing after Sammie as he laughed slightly. "Betcha I'll beat you there!" he said as he passed Sammie, smirking. He continued to run towards the palace, looking back every so often to see if Sammie was catching up or falling behind. He stuck his tongue out at Sammie, enticing her to race.

Sammie watched as the boys passed her. She looked over at Zelda and back at the boys just in time to see Mark stick his tongue out at her. "Oh no you didn't." Being a dancer, Sammie was in good shape. She decided to kick it up a notch. She started to run faster quickly closing the gap between her and Mark. When she finally passed him she repeated his actions and stuck her tongue out. She looked back in front of her and came to a stop. There they were in front of the palace. She looked around at her friends. "How do we get in?"

Zelda could here them catching up to her whiched caused her to start laughing as she squealed a little and took off sprinting, letting her four years on the track team prove to be a good thing. She was the top girl on the track team and so racing was a strong suit for her. Mark had passed her and she had caught up to him. She couldn't stop laughing as she ran, the palace getting ever closer. She glanced back at Ivan. "Hurry up Ivan, I don't want you to die." She yelled back to him and continued to run, her long red hair flowing behind her.

Ivan laughed heavily before yelling to Zelda, "I am not some superstar track person like you! I just hike!" He shook his head as he picked up pace, trying to at least catch up to Mark. He stopped in front of the house, his eyes traced over the large castle-like building, "If this was a walking up a steep hill competition, you better believe I would be king," he mumbled in a pseudo-sore loser tone. With his head tilted to the left, he stares down the door, " Maybe someone should say 'opensaysami'?"

Mark slowed to a stop infront of the palace, standing next to Sammie. "The front door?" he said with a shrug, walking up to the front doors. He reached his hand out and grabbed the handle, turning it and pulling open the door to reveal the large entrance hall. He looked back at the girls and Ivan, "Shall we go?" He pulled out his flashlight, and shined it around the entrance hall as he walked in.

Arthur Faustus

Arthur continued to walk down the hallway quietly, not hearing the front door open. He looked at the paintings that he had memorized over the years, with feigned intrest. He was almost to the entrance hall, when he heard the voices. He stopped quickly and pressed up against the wall, Extinguishing the flame of the small candle, hiding in the dark.

As Mark opened the door Sammie stood behind him and looked over his shoulder. She moved around him and walked in the door, entering the palace. She looked around, "This place is huge!" She moved in closer to get a better look at things sense it was so dark. "Maybe there is a light switch somewhere in here."

Emily had reluctantly followed the others, not wanting to be left out and also not wanting to be left alone out there. She was panicing on the inside and probably showed some minor signs of it externally as well. She peered around into the hallway, "You guys I swear to God I heard someone coming." She whispered. She was about to chicken out and duck back behind the others when she finially decided it was nothing. The noise was all in her head, now she could only her silence aside from them whispering. She followed inside behind Sammie, chorusing to herself in her head 'Theres nothing to be afraid of. Be brave.' as she looked around the massive room wandering away from the others in her usual easily distracted state. She had wandered up ahead toward the corridor trying to find a light switch along the walls in the darkness. "Guys," She called remember something, "Even if we find one, this place has been abandoned for years. There's not going to be any power." She took out her cellphone and continued along the entrance hall slowly in it's dim light.

"She's right you guys, and I don't think that there would be a light switch. I mean this palace is almost a hundred years old, no one's lived here since the old king and his son," he said as he headed towards the hallway off of the entrance hall, where Arthur was standing.

Arthur Faustus

Arthur decided to peek his head around the corner of the hallway and into the entrance hall to see if they were leaving yet. As he did so, Mark's flashlight's beam passed over him for a second, when it passed over, it quickly returned, illuminating Arthur's face. He held a hand up to cover his eyes from the bright light quickly.

Mark Weber

"Guys, I think I found him," Mark said as he kept the light from the flashlight on Arthur, who was holding his hand infront of his eyes.

Emily, who was standing just a few feet from there mark shone his light. "Mark, that's not funny. " she scolded, assuming he was trying to scare her again. She glanced back over into the now dark corner seeing nothing. "There's no such thing as ghosts." she use her phone to shine some light on the painting on the opposite wall. A boy with pale hair in a dark suit looking quite unhappy. When she spun around again the light paused for a second hiring something. He tuned again to examine it and saw the painting staring back at her, or at least the bit who the painting was of. She screamed loudly and jumped back a bit, nearly falling over her own feet.

Arthur's eyes widen at the girl's scream. He stood still for a few seconds before jumping away from the frame and running up the stairs quickly, without a word. He seemed to fly up the stairs, disappearing up another flight of stairs, headed to the third floor. He shot a lonely glance at the group of teenagers as he ran up the stairs.

Emily, being er typical mystery loving self bounded after the boy immediately. This was sort of a reckless move on her part, they Were breaking and entering after all. But she simply had to know who that boy was and why there was a large portrait of him in the main hall. It was dark and with only the small light of her phone she was having difficulty maneuvering in this maze of hallways the the boy was running through. "Hey, stop. Why are you running away? Are you living here. It's okay, I won't tell anyone, in nit supposed to be here either. " shecalked softly after the boy. "I'm Emily. " she tried, hoping he'd stop run if away and speak to her. Even if he didn't answer her questions, just saying anything at all to her would be good.

Arthur continued to run up the stairs, reaching the third floor he ran down the hallway, slipping into the library halfway down the hall. He slipped behind one of the many bookshelves, leaning against the wall quietly, catching his breath. He stayed quiet, hoping that the girl wouldn't find him or just run past the door. Why did I run? I always complain that I'm lonely...I'm an idiot, he thought to himself as he ran a hand through his hair quietly.
