“Ordre leve!!” called the cook from the back of the cafe. Miranda skillfully manueavered through the mess of toursist that crowded her place of work. She hated working here, honestly. It was annoying how some men would grope her while she served them drinks. Or how she'd had to wear those stupidly short shorts and tight top. She'd be much rather be at home, in a simple dress strumming away at her guitar, but instead she got this.

“Hey, Waitress, Hurry it up will ya?” called out a rude american. Miranda rolled her eyes as she approached. “ She probably can't even speak english?” He said and she gave him a dry look “Mwen pale Angle bon nèt, ou Ameriken twit.” She said in Creole with a smile, which made him frown. Tourists. They were the bane of her exsitance.

She noticed a group of teens come in and she sighed. Great, Tourists her age. She watched as they sat at her table and she wanted to just lay there and die. Why me? She thought as she walked up with a pad in hand. “How may I serve you?” She asked with a smile, her Haitian accent thick in her voice

*Ordre leve=Order up

**Mwen pale Angle bon nét, ou Ameriken twit=I speak perfect English you American twit.

"So, where are we going to eat then?" Brent asked impatiently, glaring daggers at Mia, one of his closest friends. She shrugged in response and he sighed. "You guys can be so picky sometimes, I swear." His eyes scanned the area. He hated being in an unfamiliar place, which was why holidays weren't his favourite thing in the world, but he was stuck there and so he figured he'd make the most of it whilst he could.

"How about there?" he asked, pointing to a fairly small but interesting little cafe. "Do they do vegetarian?" Mia asked. Brent slapped his palm against his forehead and sighed once more. "I don't know, let's ask," he spat. The group followed behind him as he entered the cafe and took a seat nearest to the window. "I'm telling you, Brent, I can't eat meat.. It goes against my-" Mia wasn't even able to finish that sentence, as she glare she received from Brent was much too harsh for her liking.

One of their friends laughed loudly from beside Brent, but he was ignored by both of them.

Mia caught the glimpse of an attractive young woman approaching the table. Normally she would've pounced on Brent to show that he belonged to her, even though they were both single and not interested in each other like that, Mia was just a tad protective over Brent. She tapped Brent's shoulder, causing him to snap out of whatever conversation he was currently in. His attention was drawn to the waitress, and a small smirk formed on his lips.

“How may I serve you?” she asked, and Brent looked down at one of the menus that a friend beside him had pulled out mid-conversation. "Just some drinks for now, I think," he replied. "We're still deciding." He quickly shot glances at everyone in the table. "Coke, for everyone," he ordered. "Please."

It was then that Mia decided to pipe up and ask the question that had been bugging her ever since they'd arrived. "Do you have vegetarian options?" she asked. "'Cause I can't eat meat.. It goes again-" much like before, she was cut off, only this time it was because Brent had held his hand over her mouth, so even if she did continue it would only sound muffled. "I swear to god, Mia, if you start rambling about your vegetarian ways once more today, you're going back to the hotel room and I will literally shove meat down your throat, 'kay?"

Mia went silent.

Miranda watched as the friends bickered on. Her face impassive, masking the bordeom she felt right now.

"Just some drinks for now, I think." said a dark haired boy. "We're still deciding. Coke, for everyone." He said and she nodded. Miranda being a good little waitress and jotted that down quickly. Her eyes fell on the girl as she spoke but then was cut off by the boy. "We have a vegan meal," She said, Her English though good, was still a struggle. "It's not a problem. Everyt'ing is grown fresh, right on t'e island" She said with a shrug. She personally didn't understand the vegetarian concept. She would die without a thick piece of steak every so often.

Just then she heard the bell that alerted her a customer entered rang. She turned only her head. It was Mr. Gotier. He was a regular, a kind old fisherman, who'd been coming here for as long as she remember. "Mornin' Randy." He called, with a cough and a wave. He didn't look himself. He was an old man, but strong from all the work he did on ships and boats. He worked really hard but he was heathly. Today he looked like death.

"Bonjour, Mr. Gotier, I'll be right wit' you." She said and turned back with a slight frown on her face. She shook it off quickly. "What about a seaweed wrap for t'e mademoiselle?" She asked. She couldn't help feel a strange calm in the air coming from behind her. Something was wrong. She could feel it.

(I keep accidentally calling him Slade.. Damn face claim. ;-;)

Brent couldn't take his eyes off of the waitress as she wrote down their order. "We have a vegan meal," she said. "It's not a problem." He smiled at her accent, he simply just adored it, although in the past he'd never really taken an interest to foreign women. He was willing to make an extremely rare exception for her. "Everyt'ing is grown fresh, right on t'e island."

Ah, beautiful.

Mia noticed the look that Brent was giving the waitress, and she allowed her raging jealousy to practically take over. She scooted closer to Brent until their arms were touching. He thought nothing of it. He'd grown up around Mia, and they'd been close during their childhood, so her sitting close to him just felt natural. They exchanged brief smiles, before they turned their attention to the waitress.

"What about a seaweed wrap for t'e mademoiselle?" she asked, and Mia raised an eyebrow. "What the hell is a se-" she was cut off by Brent, as per usual. "Sure, sounds fantastic," she said through clenched teeth, although everyone's attention had been drawn towards the one guy at the end of the table that was coughing up a lung.

"You okay, James?" Brent asked. "Obviously he's not okay, Brent," Mia snapped, standing up. "I'm going to take him home." Mia guided James out of the cafe. The remaining two friends both awkwardly stared at Brent, before concluding that they too were going to leave. "Christ sake," Brent spat. "We go on holiday and this damned place gives everyone the flu. I bet it was that old guy." At that time he had no idea who the hell he was talking to, but he assumed the waitress was listening.

He didn't want to linger on the subject for too long. He smiled widely at the waitress. "So, what's your name?"

Miranda watched as another guy began to cough. She frowned as his friends ushered him out of the door. This was odd. It was about the time tourists came in and they usually brought their foreign dieases with them.
"We go on holiday and this damned place gives everyone the flu. I bet it was the old guy." He said and Miranda arched an eyebrow. "It's you forgien leeches that brings all the sickness with you..." She thought and was about to say it but his smile caught her off guard. "So what's your name?"
Miranda was slightly taken aback. "Miranda." She said quickly. Though it sounded more like. Me-lan-dah, Rather then the English pronunciation. "Is your friend going to be alright? I don't t'ink he should be out wit' a cough like t'at." she said as she scratched out the seaweed wrap for his girlfriend. She assumed. The girl got really defensive whenever he even so much as glance at Miranda. He was cute, she gave him that but still. He was a tourist, he'd be gone in a month. She glanced back at Mr. Gotier. He was not looking so good. His face was sunk in, his skin pale and sickly. She frowned. She had to go check on him but she had to get his order in first. First come first serve and all. She turned her attention back to the boy.

(Lol, I hate when that happens xD)

"Miranda."

Brent could've almost laughed at her pronunciation, but he held it in for the time being. She couldn't help having an accent, and to be quite honest that was the main reason why Brent had found himself so hooked on her. He would definitely find it hard not to pursue her. She was just so beautiful. And then again, he would also find it hard to get to know her and then run off back to England and never return. Perhaps they could form some sort of an arrangement. Holiday bang buddies, in a sense. He'd return to Haiti one summer and she'd just be waiting for him.

He smiled at the thought.

"Is your friend going to be alright? I don't t'ink he should be out wit' a cough like t'at," she said. He shook his head in response. "He'll live," he mumbled. "It's just a cough, nothing too serious. Besides, everyone's looking after him now. Mia won't be able to rest at night if she just let him run around the streets with a flu."

Brent also shifted his gaze to the old guy that Miranda had been glancing at for some time. "Go and check on him," he said with a smile. "I'm gonna need a minute or two to pick out my meal anyway." He lifted his hand and practically shoo'd her away. He was trying to be nice by allowing her time to check on someone that he could only assume she was close to, but he'd never been the kind to do a good deed without seeming like he was being rude.

He pulled out another menu and quickly scanned it, thinking over some of the different choices he had. Foreign food certainly was.. interesting, to say the least.

Miranda listened to the boy for a moment, though she sort of missed some of what he said as Mr. Gotier nearly broke a rib he coughed so hard. "Go and check on him." he said and smiled. She looked at him, watching his expression as he spoke. He waved a hand and she arched an eyebrow. "I'm gonna need a minute or two to pick out my meal anyway." He said and Miranda nodded. "Alright t'en. I'll be just a moment." She said and turned to go to Mr. Gotier.
"Hey, Randy." He said and coughed. Miranda put her hands on her hips. "What are you doing here, you need to be bed?" She said and he laughed. "I can't help it. I just need your coffee."
"Our coffee taste like dirt."She said but smiled some, revealing a dimple in her cheeks. "I smoked for 40 years, everything tastes like dirt." He said and Miranda shook her head. "Fine. One cup of coffee t'en home. I'll ask Cook to make you some soup okay?" She said and he nodded. "Yes ma'am." He said and she smiled. She grabbed the coffeepot from behind the counter and poured him his favorite cup, coffee, cream, sugar and a bit of mint. She never understood it but he liked it. She put it in a to go cup. She brought it over quickly. "Here, Now get out." She said pointing to the door. Mr. Gotier laughed. "Alright, You are worse then your father." He said and she rolled her eyes. "I know, get." She said and He stood up. "I'll put it on your tab." She said, knowing he'd try to linger. "Alright, Alright, I'm going." He said and she waved. "Good bye, Mr. Gotier." She said cutely and he waved back as he exited. She shook her head and walked back over to the boy's table. "Have you figured out what you wanted?" She asked him, with a smile still lingering on her face.

Brent looked up as Miranda approached his table for the second time. A small but visible smirk crept onto his lips as he saw her smile. She was so cute. He really could get to know a girl like her.

"Have you figured out what you wanted?" she asked, causing Brent's smile to fade into a frown. He actually hadn't a clue. Everything was in a foreign language and he had no idea what was in anything. Believe it or not, as carefree as Brent could be, he was extremely picky about his food. He was the hardest to please when it came to complicated dishes. Something simple would've sufficed.

He mumbled a few sounds as he eyed the menu again. "Do you have a chicken burger, or anything that resembles one?" he asked, still looking quite puzzled. "I have no idea what any of this is," he gestured to the selection of food. He looked up at her for the second time with a sigh as he lifted a hand to rub the back of his neck. He must have looked like an idiot.

"Do you have a chicken burger, or anything that resembles on." He said and Mirandia arched an eyebrow. One of his friends must have spoken or atleast read Haitian-Creloe , otherwise they'd be horribly lost. "I have no idea what any of this is." He said gesturing to the menu. She should have gotten him a menu in English. She cursed herself inwardly. "We had a Spicy Chicken Sandwich, It has roasted peppers, a few jalepeno's and pepperjack cheese." She said. "It's very spicy but it be one of my favorites." She added with a small giggle. "We also have t'e Jerk Chicken sandwich. It has roasted tomatoes and garlic on it, with melted chedder cheese." She said. "It is also good but you'll have garlic on your breat' all day." She added, laughing lightly. Seeing Mr. Gotier made her mood lighten and now she wasn't so stiff and tense, she didn't mind waitressing so long as the customers weren't idiots. She turned around and scanned the room for an English menu, she took notice of the clock and could have done a backflip when she saw her shift was almost over. Pretty soon, she'd be out with her friends dancing at the club, and having people serve her and not the other way around. She spotted the menu and snatched it up quickly. "Here. It is t'e English Menu. I should have given it to you before, My apologies it's been a long day." She said, with a sheepish grin.

"We had a spicy chicken sandwich, it has roasted peppers, a few jalepeno's and pepperjack cheese," replied Miranda. Brent cocked his head to the side with a frown. It probably must've seemed like a simple meal to her, but it wasn't to him. His idea of a simple meal was a piece of chicken slapped inbetween two burger buns, and on the rare occasion he might just throw some cheese in there with it. "We also have t'e jerk chicken sandwich. It has roasted tomatoes and garlic on it, with melted chedder cheese," she added. "It is also good but you'll have garlic on your breat' all day." Brent chuckled.

He watched as her eyes darted around the room. He could only assume she had other things on her mind, and so he concluded that he should just pick his meal and be done with it. After a moment, she passed him a menu and he sighed in relief as he eyed it and was able to read every word perfectly. "Here. It is t'e English menu. I should have given it to you before. My apologies, it's been a long day."

Brent nodded. "Must be hard working all day," he commented, his eyes not leaving the menu as he spoke, but soon enough his gaze travelled back to her face and a warm smile crept onto his lips. "Uh, I'll have the spicy chicken sandwich, please," he said, although it came out as more of a question than an order.

Miranda gave him a brief smile, she found her self liking when he smiled at her. She knew she shouldn't but it didn't change the fact. Must be hard working all day," He said. “Just a little. It's better when I have costumers t'at aren't rushing me, when t'ey see I'm t'e only one working.” She said with a shrug and a small giggle. She then realized that came off...strange. ”Uh, I'll have the spicy chicken sandwich, please," He asked. She smiled and nodded. “ Certainly.” She said and quickly turned to place his order. Suddenly the bell on the door rang and she heard the loud voices of her friends. Leyla and Shante. “Randy,Girl, You ready ta go, yah?” Shante cried. She was a pretty dark skin girl, darker then Miranda was. and Leyla was a bit lighter then Miranda wasMiranda sighed. “I am still working. Go away.” She said rolling her eyes. “You have what like 10 minutes left.”
“ Yes, Ten minutes t'at'' will pays for your drinks.” She said and Shante and Leyla laughed. “ Okay, We will wait patiently,.” Leyla said and Miranda gave her a look. “Since when?” She asked and the girls laughed again. “I have one more customer to serve and t'en I am free, Okay?” she said and the girls smiled at her. “Which one? Is it t'at one?” Leyla asked looking directly at the boy she was serving. Miranda sighed. She loved her friends but Good heavens they could be annoying. “ Yes, Could you not stare.” She begged. “ Oh, He's cute. Want if I should ask him to come along?” Shante said. “ No.” Miranda said dryly. “ Oh c'mon, Randy, Lord knows you need it...” Leyla quipped. Miranda gasped. “One, He's a tourist, two, Haven't you two anyt'ing better to do t'en try to get me in bed wit' a stranger?” She asked and the girls giggled. “ Ordre leve!” Cook cried out and Miranda sighed. “ Stay here, or so help me god, I will strange you bot'” She said and the girls smiled like angels.

Miranda grabbed his hot plate and made her way back over to the table. “ Here you go,” She said and placed the plate in front of him. She could help wanting to rush him a bit. He was her last costumer, she had to wait until he was finished before she could leave. She just prayed to God that no one else walked in before her replacement showed up. She could hear Leyla and Shante giggled from behind her. She smiled at the boy. “ Let me know if you need anyt'ing.” She told him and made her way to clean something.

Brent looked up as two more girls entered the cafe, and almost instantly his attention was drawn from Miranda to them. From the conversation they were having, the seemed fairly quirky. A large smile formed on his lips. He was too distracted by his hunger to actually follow what the girls were saying, but he did manage to catch the part about sex, which he though was absolutely hilarious, although he managed to muffle his laughter and disguise it as a cough.

He noticed Miranda approach with his food and as soon as the plate was placed on the table he was eating his sandwich. He was so hungry, and to be quite honest he didn't care about what others would think of his ravenous eating. “Let me know if you need anyt'ing,” said Miranda before she walked off to do other things. He was pretty much done by that point, just a few more bites and the entire plate was clean.

Brent grabbed a napkin from the table and wiped his mouth. "Right, I'm done," he called to Miranda. "How much d'you need?" he asked, his hand digging into his pocket for money. Originally lunch at the cafe was supposed to be Mia's treat, but being her cheap little self she managed to wriggle her way out of paying. He couldn't help but think that's why she left with James. The thought made him frown.

Miranda had just finished up cleaning a few tables when she noticed the boy finishing up his dish. "Right, I'm done." He said and she smiled inwardly, she thought his accent was kinda cute, well on him atleast. She walked over and collected his dishes. "How much d'you need?" He asked and she skillfully transfered the dishes to one hand and pulled out the check book with the other. "T'at would be 4.95." She said stumbling over the words a bit. English was a pain sometimes but she was getting used to it. Especially numbers. Her firends were better at it then she was. Leyla's mother was American and they'd visit all the time and Shante had just returned from studying abroad. Miranda wished she could see the world but no. She'd have to live vicariously through her goofy friends.
Just then her replacement arrived. "Hallelujah." she thought but kept her attention on the boy.

Until her friends erupted into laughter. "Yay! We can go now." they cheered and Miranda whipped her head around. Thankfully the lunch rush had died down and it was mostly regulars in. Otherwise, she'd have to kick them out.
Miranda clicked her teeth with a frown and gestured to the door. The girls giggled and whispered sorries before quickly leaving. Miranda sighed. "I'm sorry about my friends. T'ey are a little...um...how you say... eccentric?" She said, not really sure if that was the right word. "Anyway, How was your meal? Everyt'ing was good yah?"

Brent watched her movements carefully, she had skills for a waitress but holding dishes was nothing to brag about in his mind. "T'at would be 4.95," she said and he pulled out a £5 note. "Here, keep the change," he told her, waiting for her to take the money before he stood up and dusted the crumbs off his jeans and shirt. His attention was drawn to her friends again when they started to laugh and cheer. He smiled.

"I'm sorry about my friends. T'ey are a little...um...how you say... eccentric?" she said. His smile widened. "Yeah, I noticed," he said with a small chuckle. "Anyway, how was your meal? Everyt'ing was good, yah?" He nodded his head. "Oh, yeah, everything was perfect. It tasted amazing." He grinned.

"Right, well I'd better get going," he said. "Thank you so much for the meal, and I hope you have a great time tonight." He hesitated for a moment, then moved his hand and patted her on the shoulder awkwardly. "Okay, see you," he murmured and walked towards the door.

Miranda smiled as she took check. She was a little confused as he patted her shoulder and muttered his goodbye. She frowned a bit. She didn't even catch his name.

~Later that Evening~
Miranda, Shante and Leyla made their way inside a loud thumping club. Miranda in a swanky green party dress, wedges and a heart pendant hanging down to her navel. All day, Miranda couldn't get two things off her mind. That boy and the bug that was going around, it seemed to have gotten to most of the island. Though, the club was as loud and crowded as ever.
"Ooh! I love this song!" Leyla cheered as they were ushered inside, Miranda giggled. "You love every song, you!" She grinned. Shante laughed in agreement. Leyla then grabbed her friends hands and dragged them to the dancefloor. Immediately, Miranda started to move to the music. Music was a passion of hers and when it was so loud that should could feel it through her chest like this, she could lose herself instantly.
