IMPORTANT MESSAGE

This is a second attempt at this RPG, several people joined and left after only a few posts, with all due repect to those indiviguals, I do not want this to happen again. So if you are not 100% sure you will stick with this rpg, then please do not join. I don't mean to sound too harsh, but I don't create or join rpg's that Im not dedicated to following through with, but thats just me. ;)

THE SETUP:

Partly based on the Television show: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hell_on_Wheels_(TV_series)

BASICS OF GAME PLAY:

1. This RPG is Setup as an action/horror.

THE PLOT:

It is 1864 and the Gold Rush is in full swing, a small group of settlers discover a cavern in the side of the Sawtooth mountain range in the Idaho Territory, established the year before. The cavern walls hide tons of gold, ready for the taking. There is only one problem.....

The group consists of a few families, freed slaves, gunslingers and even a couple of outlaws, all hoping to make a new start. The travel together as a 'mobile town' which they have named Hell on Wheels.

BACKDROP: (inspired by the events at Wounded Knee 1890)

Sawtooth mountain range had been the home of the Shoshone tribe, who's culture contained legends which spoke of a race of beings known as the Limmikin (Skinwalkers). In 1721 five hundred Indians were confronted by a garrison of troops from nearby Fort Anler's. A misunderstanding between the Shoshone and the soldiers resulted in the Sawtooth massacre, where 435 Indians were brutally killed. Many of them were shot after their chief refused to hand over his weapon, not familiar with English he misunderstood the command, the gun was new and his prized possession. One of the soldiers accidentally discharged his weapon. The other soldiers, thinking that they had been fired upon by the Indians, all opened fire. Nearly half of the Indians killed were woman and children.

Shoshone legend tells of the Wolf, a spirit being which could bring humans back to life by shooting an arrow under them.

Available Characters:

You are free to create any kind of character that you like, within reason. These characters must be similar to the kinds of people that would have been alive in the early period of American history, during the Civil War. If you have seen the Hell on Wheels television show or other historical dramatizations of this period then you know what types of characters which usually inhabit such a world.

Main characters should have a mysterious and checkered past, and some association with the place that they are going to.

Characters must still be approved, here are some ideas for possible characters

1. Jessie Anderson (Wadejackel)
2. Outlaw 1
3. Outlaw 2
4. Family member/and or entire family
5. Soldier
6. Priest

Daiyu ran, ran as hard as she could up the slope of the mountain. Finally her legs would carry her no further and she stopped, panting heavily. She tried to catch her breath but her legs gave out. She collapsed to her knees. Looking behind her slightly Daiyu was disheartened a little to see that she hadn't gotten very far up the mountain. Her body, deprived of a decent amount of food and water was simply not capable to the task at the pace that she wished.

She rolled to sit on her backside and tried harder to slow her breathing. She needed to calm it if she was to continue the trek. She could see the things advancing on Nathan and Jesse. She wept now. It was hopeless. Why was she running? They'd only catch and kill her once they were done with the two men. Daiyu wondered why they hadn't been killed along with everyone else from the town. How had they managed to survive?

Fearing that she would be seen and chased, Daiyu pushed herself to stand and wiped her dirty hands on her face, removing her falling tears. She turned and began a slow walk, hoping to get far enough to hide in a rock outcropping or something until the daylight.

Nathan stood frozen in shock and fear as Jesse dropped his gun and ran into the creatures. He couldn't bring himself to follow the man's lead, instead firing his own rifle at creatures that were still a bit of distance away. If he could keep them from getting closer then Jesse might have a chance. The things had claws and a reach that Jesse could not rival and in the pit of his stomach Nathan knew the whole thing to be useless.

He fired, over and over again until his weapon was empty. Dropping it to the ground he picked up Jesse's. He returned to shooting anything and everything that moved towards where Jesse was in battle. Finally, both guns were empty and Nathan stepped closer to the fray. He began swinging the butt end of the rifle at the creatures. Teh sound of bones cracking filled the air along with the howling of the advancing creatures.

Nathan had been left to his own resources as he battled the creatures with the butt of his rifle, it was a loosing prospect and the beasts quickly overpowered him. One of the creatures was just about to deliver the final killing blow to Nathan's face and neck when a voice suddenly shouted from behind.

"No more."

The leader of the monstrous mob, who had once been Reverend Handcock, took a hold of Nathan and with his claws digging into his shoulders forced him to turn and face White-Owl and his two braves.

"You have fought bravely, but you must know that there is no hope for you now."

The two braves at White-Owl's side were still in their animal form. White-Owl came out from behind them and walked straight up to Nathan.

"Now you must die."

White-Owl then raised his left hand to reveal that he was beginning to turn into his beast-form, his fingers now elongated and thier tips razor sharp. Suddenly there came another command to desist, this time from the area where Jess had fallen moments before. Nathan turned around and peered through the break in the crowd of beasts to see Jess...Alive.

Sticking out from the ground before him was a freshly shot arrow.

The creatures cleared a path allowing Jess to walk right up to Nathan and White-Owl without being accosted. White-Owl looked at the other creatures and commanded them to leave the area, within a matter a few seconds the creatures had disappeared into the countryside.

Jess then challenged White-Owl.

"Let us settle this right now. My Grandfather was John Anler, commander of the garrison which slaughtered those 500 Indians during the Sawtooth Massacre."

Nathan waited for death. He could smell it in the air and feel it breathing down his neck. He closed his eyes as the things grabbed him. When the cry for no more went out Nathan's eyes flashed open. He saw the young man, the brave that had tried to kill his children and Daiyu walking towards him.

As the man told Nathan he was going to die, he swallowed hard. The creatures around him were breathing heavily, almost drowning out the sound of his pounding heart. The brave raised a hand, one that was changing into a claw in front of his eyes, but before he could strike Nathan another voice rang out.

He turned to see Jesse. He had no idea how the man was alive. Then he saw the arrow and he knew. With a command the creatures cleared out, leaving Nathan to witness Jesse challenge the brave.

Nathan backed away, watching the two men and not fully understanding what was about to occur.

Daiyu climbed and stopping again to breathe turned to look back at the chaos below her. She frowned as the creatures suddenly all began moving away and quickly too. She watched as all the remained were three lone figures. Daiyui didn't even consider where the other creatures went, perhaps they would be heading up the mountain. Even from her spot she could tell that things were extremely tense between those that remained in Hell on Wheels.

The reanimated Jess was standing with Nathan and White-Owl, who had transformed back into full human form. The two braves who had accompanied him were still walking away when Jess stepped forward.

Nathan and White-Owl both focused on Jess thinking he was about to speak, but instead Jess looked up toward the sky in silence. Nathan turned his head as White-Owl turned his entire body, the two now gazing upward. Suddenly, from out of the sun there came another arrow, this one hitting the ground at Nathan's feet.

The three of them watched the arrow as it fell to the earth, after the arrow landed they all looked at one another.

Jess warned Nathan. "You will be killed if we do not defeat him." Looking directly at White-Owl when he referred to him.

By this time White-Owl called for one of his braves to turn back and rejoin him, just in case Jess and Nathan offered up a challenge. Though many had challenged White-Owl and had defeated some of his braves in the past, no one had ever succeeded in defeating White-Owl himself.

Jess continued, "Nathan! Your have two choices, be slaughtered or join me and fight them. Although changed, you will be alive."

Nathan stood, shocked stiff but the arrival of the arrow at his feet. He stared at Jesse, unsure if he was fully understanding. He nodded. Fighting for his life was something he readily got. Even if he didn't know why or what exactly was happening.

Nathan looked at Jesse, "I will fight but...I don't know what good I will do. But I will fight."

Daiyu frowned, she felt terrible leaving the men like that. She could see that something was happening. Resolved that she could either die alone in the wildnerness or die helping the men who weretrying to help her Daiyu stood and began a trek down the mountain. She moved quickly, and gathered rocks as she went. By the time she reached the bottom, Daiyu had a collection of rocks, some as the size of her hands.

She stopped a short distance away, ducking behind some of the wreckage of one of the wagons. Daiyu was close enough to overhear, close enough to throw the rocks but with just enough distance that if she was quick she would be able to run if someone came for her.

Jess sensed Nathan's confusion and so in order to clarify the point he raised his left hand. Standing a mere few inches away Nathan was in the perfect position to witness the gruesome transformation.

Jess' fingertips bulged and reddened as they filled with blood. His fingernails ripped through the tips of his fingers as blood spurted forth, the fingers themselves now elongated and sinewy.

Jess had been watching his own hand as it transformed, now turning to look at Nathan as if to prepare him for what was to come.

"Join me, together we will defeat them." His voice now deep and sinister.

Suddenly, in a blur of motion Jess whipped his hand down and slashed Nathan across the face and neck.

The movement was so quick that Nathan could not avoid the savage swipe of Jess' gnarled hand.

Nathan hit the ground with a thud, blood pouring from the wounds on his neck and face. His life slipped away as the red fluid pooled around him.

Daiyu from her hiding place watched Jesse hit Nathan and she gasped, her hands going to her mouth as the man hit the ground. Her heart pounded in chest as she waited to see if Nathan was still alive or if the things would come for her. Jesse, the man that had saved her earlier was one of the creatures too.

Nathan pushed himself to stand. He was stiff and slow but eventually he made his way to his feet. He looked at Jesse, understanding in his eyes. As a simple man he could do nothing to fight the brave or the others but now, now there was a chance.

Anticipation hung heavy in the air. There was no sounds, no wind as if the world around them knew a fight was coming.

Daiyu's hands remained on her mouth, holding in her exclamation of surprise and terror as she watched Nathan stand again. He and Jesse were planning to fight the brave and his warriors. It was madness. She swallowed and reached for a rock, readying herself.

White-Owl could barely believe what he was seeing, this was something new his experience, no one had ever willingly gave themselves over to the curse. Nathan walked up to Jess and took his place beside him, they would fight the Indian braves, it was their one chance. The young brave that White-Owl had called over to assist had also joined his friend, then the four men stepped away from one another to prepare.

Jess had been standing with his arms at his sides when Nathan first joined him, but now they were flung upward as the gunslinger let out a scream of agonizing pain. Apparently the first time always hurts the worst. Now clawing at his garments Jess ripped his cloths from his body revealing the quickly sprouting coarse hairs which had suddenly appeared upon his changing body. As before the first thing to change was his hands, at least this is how the transformation was for Jess.

Nathan looked on with horror and a tremendous sense of dread as his partner grew into a raving beast before him. Jess was now crouched down in pain as the bones in his legs cracked and creaked, soon his height was extended by more then a 12 inches. The sound of cracking ribs followed as Jess' chest bulged forth, this was accompanied by even more intense pains.

Nathan watched Jesse change. He knew that he too could do that and knew it was going to be painful. Losing his family had been worse, this was just physical pain. What more did he have to lose? His life, that was already gone every part of it.

With a breath in and look of acceptance in his eyes, Nathan allowed his body to change. It was as painful as it looked and as Nathan expected. Bones cracked and grew, he cried out in pain an claws formed and all his limbs extended themselves.

Finally, the change was complete and the now beast thing that Nathan was stood beside Jesse, ready to face the two warriors.

From her hiding place Daiyu ducked her head down. She was unable to watch the two men change into the creatures. She had seen them as men and now they were in agony and changing their bodies to no longer be human. Daiyu was scared and saddened.

When the cries ceased, she poked her head up to look over the wreckage of the wagon. She saw them. Two on one side and two a distance away. There was to be a battle and death was the only accepted fate. Daiyu wished she had a place to hide, a place to go but nothing was close and she would die of starvation or exposure or even from an animal before she found people again. Not only that, she knew that no one would simply accept a chinese woman walking into a town alone. Daiyu would be shunned and left to die.

She picked up a rock and waited. "Die now, or die later but at least I die fighting..." She watched and waited for the men to begin, unsure how this all worked.

The creature Nathan snarled, waiting to unleash his anger in battle.

The beast formally known as Jess Anderson snarled and scratched his massive hairy foot upon the ground as if to deliver his challenge. As the two creatures drooled in anticipation the braves also transformed.

Now four great beasts stood against one another, each ready for battle.

The Jess creature hunched forward and extended its claws, then in a blur of frantic motion it launched toward its enemy, the beast formally known as White-Owl.

Jess and White-Owl clashed and then fell to the ground in a heap, rolling about with bits and harsh blows, like two wild mangy dogs locked in battle.

As Jesse and White Owl began to fight, rolling around like dogs in the dirt, Nathan attacked the other creature.

Daiyu watched. The noise was intense, snarling and barking but there was little more damage than some bites. "They are no better than animals" Daiyu frowned. All the bloodshed, all the chaos and for what, so that they could roll in dirt like feral dogs? "No, this will not stand." Daiyu stood, her form appearing from behind the broken wagon. They were not far from her and so she hurled the first large rock that was in her hand.

The first hit Nathan in the shoulder. The second smacked off of White Owl's leg. Eventually the four creatures were pelted with a stedy barrage of rocks. Some were smaller, doing nothing more than glancing off the tough hides. Some of the larger ones hit them hard. She knew she wouldn't be able to kill them but they weren't exactly killing each other so what did it matter.

Nathan took a rock to the back of his beast like head. The next hit Jesse. Nathan turned to where the asian girl was standing, throwing her rocks. He was torn. To attack the female or keep at the other creature. He clawed at the beast and was met with a claw to his face. Another rock pelted the other brave-now creature, hitting it square in the maw as it came at Nathan, intending to bite him. The beast reeled backwards and Nathan turned snarling at Daiyu.

She challenged him with a look, "He will kill you if you don't get on with it." Her voice was a little cold. She was tired, dirty and had nothing left to lose. Nathan lunged at the other beast, his claw digging into the flesh of its shoulder. The wounded creature howled. Daiyu turned her rocks on Jesse and White Owl. She was angry that they had used her and to what purpose? The wagons were coming here anyway, they could have just killed her when they had the chance but no, terror was their only goal and it infuriated her to be used like that.

Another howl went up but it was unclear if it was from Nathan or the brave. The two were locked, jaws gripping the other's neck.

The battling wolf creatures were being pelted with rocks, the Jess-beast released his biting grip on his opponent. Reacting with a growl to the barrage of jagged stones, then returning his attention to his enemy. White-Owl had used this opportunity to catch his foe off guard.

In one swift motion the beast had gotten on his back haunches and then like a tightly wound spring he threw his entire body at unsuspecting Jess. The violent clash sent both creatures to the ground once more, though this time White-Owl would have the upper hand.

Nathan's jaws locked down on the other beast's throat. At the same time, pain ripped through his body. The brave took a chunk out of his neck. It wouldn't be long before he was dead but he felt proud knowing in the end he was not a coward, not the coward who had left a girl to die as the camp took off, not a coward who had never been able to really stand up to his wife.

Nathan gripped the brave's shoulders and keeping his teeth clenched, ripped at the man's neck. He pushed the brave away and took a hunk of his throat as the two bodies seperated. Both fell heavily to the ground. Blood soaked into the dirt as their life left them.

Daiyu watched as the thing that had once been Nathan died, the other creature dying a short distance away from him. And so there remained the two. Daiyu began to search through the remains of the wagon, hoping to find a rifle. There was none here. She spotted another wagon and ran quickly to it. There, after some searching she found a rifle. Running, balancing the thing on her arms she went back to her hiding spot. She was ready now.

Daiyu aimed the gun. If they finished the fight and whichever one lived chose to come at her she would be ready to fire at it before it killed her. Her hands shook ever so slightly as she watched the beast roll in the dirt again.

The Jess-beast rolled upon the rocky ground with the White-Owl creature, the brave had his opponent pinned to the dusty ground. This is what the young Asian woman had seen once the scattering of dust finally settled. White-owl was sitting atop of Jess, slashing at his face with his long razor sharp claws.

The fight had taken its toll on Jess, who unlike his opponent, hadn't much experience with tooth and claw fighting tactics. After Jess had given up White-Owl immediatly removed himself from Jess' chest and left him to the agony of an inevitable demise.

White-Owl walked toward Daiyu, changing back to his human form with each step. Although he was now a mere human, the ferocious look of a bloodthirsty beast still remained within his eyes.

White-Owl walked up to Daiyu with the intention of ripping her throat out.

Daiyu's mouth went dry as the brave stood, leaving the beast that was Jesse lying on the ground. He moved towards her, shifting into his human form as he did so. Her hands shook a little more. "Stop. I have done nothing to you." Her eyes began to fill with tears of fear.

Daiyu pulled the trigger of the rifle. The shot ripped through the air. The gun recoiled into her shoulder, throwing her to the ground with a cry of pain.

She didn't see the bullet strike White Owl in the shoulder. She had been able to keep the gun steady enough that the shot was true. The bullet ripped through him. Entering just below his collar bone on the right side and exiting out the back. Clean shot through and through. The brave dropped to a knee clutching his shoulder.

Daiyu writhed on the ground. The rifle had bounced back into her left shoulder. She was sure it was dislocated. The pain was excurtiating. The gun lay on the ground beside her now. Daiyu rolled to her knees, hugging her shoulder as she stood. Clenching her eyes shut in pain she reached to grab the rifle. She knew that her only chance was to grab the gun and have it ready, she was going to die but she would do it fighting. Slowly, rifle in hand Daiyu stood and turned to face whatever may come at her.

White-Owl's walk toward the young Asian woman was full of bloodthirsty intent, reaching out his hands as he came upon her position. Daiyu's shoulder hurt but she couldn't just stand there and let him attack her. Gritting her teeth Daiyu shot him again. She had no idea where it hit him but she knew from the sound he made that it had. She hit the ground with a thud, the rifle falling from her hand and sliding away from her in the dirt.

She scrambled backwards trying to put a great deal of distance between herself and White Owl. Daiyu rolled and crying out in pain pushed herself to stand. She began to run, trying to find some shelter behind another wagon. She needed to breathe. She knew deep down she was simply prolonging the inevitable but the instinct to perserve herself was winning out.

Daiyu made it to another wagon and she crawled under some of the heavy broken planks. Laying on her stomach she could see if anyone came near her and just to her left was a hole big enough for her to slip out of and continue to run. She waited now. The sweat on her face made the dirt stick to her and she could taste grit in her mouth.

Daiyu laid flat, she needed to take care of her shoulder. If she rolled hard, pushing it into the ground she wondered if she could get it to pop back into the socket. With grim determination Daiyu rolled, pushing her shoulder back in an effort to force it into place. She bit her lip as it painfully shifted and with a small pop hit home. The pressure release was immense and while it still ached at least she had mobility again.

Her eyes immediately watched the ground outside the wagon again. She could see where Jesse lay but not where White Owl was.

Without realizing what she had done Daiyu shot White-Owl in his other shoulder and even though it was blind luck it did the job. White-Owl was near death as he lumbered over to where Daiyu hid herself, his heavy foot falls sounding his approach. The mortally wounded Indian brave stood perfectly still at the point where Daiyu's head lay beneath the damaged wagon.

It was then that Daiyu heard the unmistakable sounds of the Indians final transformation into a raving and snarling beast. Daiyu thanked the heavens that she was spared the horror of seeing the grotesque alteration of his human form, though she could still see his calves and feet. The obscene cracking sound of his bones caused her to avert her eyes.

Even as a monstrous beast White-Owl was still very weak, the strained creature cried out in pain as he lifted the heavy object, the wagon fell away from Daiyu and then crashed onto the dusty ground. With her position revealed Daiyu turned over and screamed at the sight of the drooling beast. Her eyes were focused on the creature before her, Daiyu didn't see Jess as he approached White-Owl from behind.

Daiyu feared that she would be torn to pieces by the White-Owl beast, her anxiety vanished as she saw the large knife pierce the creatures heart from behind. Blood spurted from the wound and hit Daiyu in the face, the creature fell to the ground dead. Forcing her eyes to open beneath the clotted blood upon her face Daiyu was surprised to see Jess standing before her.

Jess was still human as he collapsed to his knees.

In a brief moment of lucidity and clarity Jess stared Daiyu in her eyes as he muttered the words "I'm sorry". The words came out in a whisper which Daiyu was unable to hear, soon the unredeemed Jess Anderson fell to the ground-Dead. Daiyu wept as she rolled onto her back and gazed at the bright sky.

That's when she saw them.....

One thousand arrows blotting out the sun.

THE END.

Re: [OOC] HELL ON WHEELS with Werewolves 2

Okay, I ended it.

Thanks for coming in a pinch and helping out when everyone else split :)

Re: [OOC] HELL ON WHEELS with Werewolves 2

So...she is going to shoot again but if he is going to kill her might as well just edit your post and do it :) No point in me making a teeny post and then you doing a post with him killing her. If Jesse is dead then she is certainly dead, she will only get one more shot off and with her shoulder it won't do much.

Go for it, write up a nice fitting ending for her :)

Re: [OOC] HELL ON WHEELS with Werewolves 2

Thank you.

So I can't accurately react to Jesse's past without actually getting details. As you have posted, Nathan will still agree to help but some details would mean I could write up a reaction that is fitting.

Not a big deal, but I am also curious as to Jesse's past so was sort of hoping for more about it.

Re: [OOC] HELL ON WHEELS with Werewolves 2

Just a reminder that I leave tomorrow night and my posting abilities will be limited. I am back Monday night and back to posting on Tuesday.

Hope your week is going well. Just a head's up that I will not be on much this weekend and I am going away next week from Wed (15th) until Mon (20th) I will have net but not sure how much time I will have to post.

Re: [OOC] HELL ON WHEELS with Werewolves 2

Posted, I left her awake for now....not sure what you want to have happen. If needed I can edit to have her in bed.
