Personality:
Tsubasa is an avid reader and loves to learn. Every spare minute she has is spent in some book or another. She's hard working and loves to help people. She's friendly and outgoing but doesn't like to talk your ear off, she knows when to talk and when not to. While she may not care about the subject, she's one of those people who will actually listen to you and most of the time remember what you say. She's stubborn and set in her ways, if she thinks she can do something, she will. But on the other side, if she doesn't think she can do something, its very hard to convince her otherwise. She isn't modest, but she isn't a slut either. She just doesn't care if she shows a little skin, as long as everything that's suppose to be is covered. She tends to wear her heart on her sleeve, its really easy to tell how she's feeling at any given moment. While she is an excellent liar, she doesn't do it very often and usually an honest person. She's mature for her age, which is why she can hide the fact that she isn't even a legal adult yet.

While you can usually find her in a good mood, due to the fact that she finds the positive in everything, her bad moods are scary. Especially during that time of the month. She's gets angry much easier during this time, and can also be easily offended. You can really hurt her during this time, as she will take everything you say about her seriously. And despite the fact that she wears her heart on her sleeve, she never cries in front of anybody. And its almost impossible to tell if you're upsetting her until its too late. She doesn't get loud when she gets mad, she's one of those people who gets quiet. But the look on her face tells you that she is silently plotting your horrible and painful death.

Background:
Tsubasa was born and raised in Asano. She lived very close to the temple in her area and spent a lot of time at said temple reading in the library. Her parents are traditional, so they use magic more than they do technology. As such, Tsubasa has been around magic her entire life. She has an older brother named Hige, who also kept magic traditions like their parents. Tsubasa and Hige have always been close, they're only two years apart in age. While Tsubasa was more magic and learning oriented, Hige was the tough one, his fighting skills were great. But that did cause him to gain the attention of some of the other tough guys in the area. Move often then not he'd come how with bruises, cuts, and scraps, and the occasional broken bone. The only time Tsubasa even made an effort to try using her healing magic was on him. The two were a team with Tsubasa healing and using shields, and Hige doing the fighting. When Hige was 16 and Tsubasa was 14 they were well known in the area as unstoppable. The two shared a dream of becoming heroes, and more importantly, partners. But while Hige wanted to learn to be a hero on his own, Tsubasa wanted an apprenticeship. Both respected each others way of becoming a hero. Three years later Tsubasa applied for both Haru and Shiro, but didn't get chosen by either. But she didn't give up and found the Shrine Maiden, whom she had the same magical abilities as. And the two agreed that when Tsubasa's apprenticeship was done, the two would become heroes together or not at all.

Other:
With the way Tsubasa's magic works, she is excellent at shield magic, and terrible at healing. Expanding her magic in any direction to create something that can withstand attacks is easy for her. But channeling it into a single point, fixing internal damage, knitting skin back together, is incredibly difficult for her to do and takes far more energy than most with her magical talent. While shields, usually the more difficult of the two take less energy, as if their energy drains were switched for her.

Why did you choose this hero:
Well, that's easy! I'm naturally gifted in shield magic and have the ability to use healing magic. She was only the natural choice since she could use both. I'm a pretty good archer too, made it to the semi-finals in the last junior tournament. That's two of the three, so I thought I'd have a pretty good chance of being accepted. Maybe now that I have been, I can just skip over healing magic and work on what I'll actually be able to help people with. But I doubt I'll be able to get away with it.

Tsubasa waited nervously beside her brother as they began the announcing of the apprentice's to the great heroes. She had applied for two of the three and had done really well for both, so she thought she had a good chance of getting accepted. She was nervous both because of the wait, and because she was wearing the outfit her brother had made for her. She felt a little better because he was wearing his own though. She couldn't help but feel disappointed when her name wasn't called. But she knew there wasn't much a chance in the first place, the kids who were chosen had money and she didn't. Even though she knew for certain that she had done better than Kairi in archery. She was pretty sure there were two reasons that Kairi got the position instead. Money, and the fact that Kairi was a slut.

With a sigh, Tsubasa followed her brother as they made to leave the area. She'd have to find another hero looking for an apprentice, or just become a hero on her own like her brother was going to do. She paused, causing someone to bump into her when she heard someone saying that they were looking for apprentices. Shrine Maiden? Her brother pulled her off to the side while she thought. What was Shrine Maiden known for? Then she remembered, healing, support, and archery. The three things that Tsubasa was capable of. She looked around and spotted a homeless looking guy and a girl who looked like a shine maiden making poses on the wall opposite of them. Tsubasa looked at her brother, who knew what she was thinking. "I'll wait here for you. Good luck."

With a nod Tsubasa shoved her way through the crowd, nearly punching somebody in the face when they groped her breasts. She made it through the crowd and stood in front of the woman. "Did you say you were looking for an apprentice? Well then I would like to apply." She made sure she sounded confident when she spoke.

"Mai Tukiko, get back here this instant!"

Jaw set, Mai storms away from the proceedings, her parents in tow. But she wouldn't turn. She daren't give them that satisfaction, the satisfaction of knowing they've gotten to her. In all honesty, she's not sure why they're still upset. It had been a while ago that she had refused to try out for an apprenticeship, the one thing Ai and Lu had dreamnt for her. Too bad. They had lost their parenting rights when they had condemned her to the wilderness against her will.

"Mai! You better listen or else-"

Fuming, Mai unsheathes the dagger at her waist, turning on her heel to face her parents. "Let me be! I want nothing to do with you, nor them." She nods towards the three heroes. "A lion consumed the dreams I once had!" She indicates to the scar that mars the right side of her face. "A lion you condemned me to! Now, let me be!"

Ai and Lu, Mai is pleased to see, stay rooted in place, jaws dropped in sheer shock and disbelief. She smirks contentedly, leaving the procession as people star her way, lion's paw bouncing against her chest. Now what? She's need to do something with her life, but she had been trained solely to fight. That's when she hears it.

"A shaman and a shrine maiden looking for apprentices here!"

Mai freezes in place, calling to her mind the purposes of these heroes. Shrine Maiden is a bit - ah - unconventional for her abilities, but Shaman? Why not? It would be something to do, and in a way, she'd still be fulfilling her dreams.

Sheathing her dagger, hair flowing out behind her, Mai makes her way over to the pair of oddball-looking heroes, surprised to see another young lady conversing with them already. All the same, she doesn't even look at the girl or the Shrine Maiden as she steps over to join the group, face impassive, hoping her parents are watching and crying out in shock.

She stops right in front of the man, maintaining eye contact determinedly. "I wish to apply for Shaman's apprentice." She speaks without emotion, absentmindedly running the fingers onher right hand through her hair, exposing her scar without realizing it.

When asked about her knowledge of healing and protection spells, and her skill of archery Tsubasa nodded. "I'm good at shield magic and can use it in the form of domes or barriers. And last year I made it to semi-finals of the junior archery tournament." She didn't mention healing magic, because she was terrible at it and wanted to focus on what she was good at. Its not like she could save lives with her healing magic, by the time she got it focused on the wound, the person would have bled to death.

Tsubasa opened her mouth to thank the man when he mentioned that her costume was nice. But quickly shut it and began to turn red from embarrassment as she discovered that he was a pervert. And could turn into a women. Which was very interesting and something that she almost wanted to ask him about. But judging from the way the two acted, she would be seeing him often and would probably see it eventually.

When another girl came up and said she wanted to apply to be the man's apprentice, Tsubasa nodded to her. She wondered how many other people would apply to these two, and how much of a chance she actually had at getting a spot. She glanced back at her brother who was still standing there waiting for her. He smiled and she smiled back, his smile boosted her confidence a little bit. Like it always did.

Mai's lips form into a content sneer at Ryu's questions. No, not one directed at him, but a bitter one as the image of her parents popped into her head. They would never, ever approve. All the more reason to do it, then, she thinks, laughing inwardly.

"With all due respect, Sir, I've been through a lot in my short time in this world," she speaks in her signature monotone, the very emotionless voice her parents had raised her to use. ("Emotion is weakness," Lu had said impassively. "Avoid weakness at all costs, lest you fail each of your endevours.") "I am as physically fit as can be and can use next to any weaponry. While I am afraid I can say nothing in terms of steel girders, sensory, and the likes, I am willing to put forth as much effort as necessary to learn." She smiles an emotionless smile. "I don't easily give up, and enjoy a good challenge. Assuming I am told beforehand of any challenges." She glances down at the lion's paw around her neck as Maraka stroms toward Ryu.

Mai pays little attention to the interaction between the two men, though she can't help but be impressed when Ryu catched the blade between his fingers. After that, she glances toward the two women - one about her age, one certainly older. Mai offers an emotionless smile to the younger girl, a short nod to the elder as she steps back to join them. When Ryu turns and asks the question, she just shrugs to display concession, not wanting to waste a word.

Tsubasa frowned, she doubted that no amount of training could get her to be good at healing magic. She just wasn't good at it and nothing could change it. She had her mind set on the fact that she could do it. She listened to all the things that a shaman had to know how to do and was amazed. The big three only had mastery of a few things. She stared in awe as Maraka walked over to them, but got over it very quickly when she learned something about the so called greatest swordsman.

The fact that he was an asshole. And certainly spoiled at some point in his life. She wondered if the other two were the same, and was suddenly glad that she hadn't been chosen. She watched the conflict between the shaman and the swordsman and found herself impressed by the perverted man. Though she certainly didn't trust him. At all.

When the shaman mentioned going to his house or the shrine, she focused her attention from the struggling swordsman to the pervert. The shrine in the area was the one near her house. Had she seen the shrine maiden there before in all her years going there? She glanced back over at her brother to see that he was still waiting there, and signaled to him that he could go home. He smiled and left with a wave.

Tsubasa knew that she did not want to be in the perverted man's house. So she decided it would be best to speak up about it. "I would be more comfortable with the shrine, to be honest."

"It doesn't matter anyways. I live next door to Kana. By the way, let me properly introduce myself and the shrine maiden. I am Ryu and this is Kana. Consider her to be sort of like my girlfriend but it is rather an open relationship." Mai frowns a tad at this declaration. What's an open reletionship, to use this man's words? She then recalls that the man had deemed himself a pervert during his prior introduction. Oh, that's what it means. And Kana's okay with that? But it's none of Mai's business, so she doesn't press the issue.

"So who are you two? You understand that the apprenticeship isn't a piece of cake. For shaman you will need to lift a lot, workout, meditate and practice spells. Shrine maidens have to practice archery and spells most of the time."

Mai nods toward Ryu impassively. "I am Mai, Mai Tukiko. Believe me, I have been training my entire life to join one of those," she nods toward the three higher heroes, "but decided against pursuing their apprenticeships for, ah, personal reasons. My prents do not approve of the path I have chosen to take, but it matters not to me." She silently hopes that none of the others will press the issue lest she enlist herself on a well-rehearsed rant.
