FASHION STYLE
Anouk is fairly casual in her attire, and although as such she isn't especially fond of dressing up, she enjoys bright pops of colour in an assortment of attires that are otherwise relatively street. Her clothing is often oversized, and lacking in accessories- largely because her abilities make this necessary. x x x x x


HERO UNIFORM
Anouk's uniform is unique in that she doesn't really have one- any such uniform would restrict her abilities, as her size inevitably changes when she shapeshifts, and someone has yet to create a material than conforms to shapes as diverse as those she takes the form of. Instead, she creates thick scales across her skin, reaching up to her jaw. The scales are similar to those of a crocodile, providing the added bonus of body armour.


SPECIAL OBJECTS/MARKS/SCARS
she is careful to tend to wounds in a way that prevents scars to the best of her ability, because the presence of such things would hinder her ability. Same goes for any personal effects, which she tends to avoid keeping on her person else risk giving herself away or losing them when she changes form.

ABILITIES ⟶ SHAPESHIFTING
Anouk's ability essentially is the power to shift and change her biological structure into new forms, be they human or animal. It is relatively limitless, with her ability to build cells from nothing or collapse into each other resulting in the size of what she is turning into not being an issue. However, there are certain drawbacks, the most notable of which being the degree of pain that comes with the process. The more intense the change, such as if she were to turn into a sparrow (one of her more typical choices), the more agonising. The pain change range from a mild discomfort to agony, depending on the form, and although she is more used to the pain than she once was, it's still very far from easy to deal with. Another weakness to her abilities is that, when replicating something, she only knows what she can see- that is to say, if she is mimicking the form of someone with a scar on the bottom of their foot, or a birthmark on their stomach, she's likely to miss it. She's developed an eye for detail to help combat this, but she can't help what she can't see. In the case of animal biology, she's had to study hard in order to ensure she does not forget certain organs that her new form can't live without.

much like the nature of her power, Anouk's character tends to shift based on her circumstances. Perhaps it's a survival technique, a manner of adaptation that turns her from fiery to passive based on the odds she has of winning. She can read a room, and more importantly, she can read an opponent, and she does so with tactful consideration that is subtly present throughout her behaviour. When it comes to street smarts, she is quite the maven, always seeming to know how to spin situations to fit her needs, and bounce back from the terrible situations that tend to follow her with alarming consistency. She is hotheaded, undoubtedly, but her aforementioned shifts in character could easily cause her to be perceived as the opposite; she knows how to put on a fake smile, and, as impatient as she can be, knows how to bide her time when it matters.

she can be a tad cynical, and although big, her heart isn't prone to doling out trust. For all her smiles and jokes (and there are certainly many of both with Anouk), her walls are high and guarded, and, even at her most insouciant, she protects herself. This cynicism comes mostly as a manner with which she keeps herself from getting hurt- preventing optimism and idealism to blossom in favour of avoiding potential heartbreaks and disappointment. It's a sombre way to see the world, and the people in it, but one can't argue that it doesn't help keep her heart intact. One could argue, however, that it leads to an inevitable loneliness, but even if that is the case, and it probably is, one could never tell with Anouk.

her wit and joviality lend themselves to banter and repartee, and she is always quick with a joke when the mood gets too heavy. For someone as streetwise as her, one would expect her to have more tact, but she is not one to hold her tongue. Her aversion to sadness leads to her sometimes jesting when she shouldn't, both towards the trauma of others, and especially her own. She has a knack for keeping a room warm, and sometimes jests with the intention of directing ill will unto herself. It isn't because she enjoys fights or danger- on the contrary, she is something of a pacifist. Rather, she sometimes feels the need to sacrifice herself in favour of lightening the mood- directing the anger of her companions away from themselves and onto her. She can turn herself into an emotional scapegoat, and finds herself doing so whenever things get a touch too bleak for even her usual jests to lighten the load.

for all her wayward posturing, she is rather soft. She plays the role of old leather, when, truth be told, corduroy is sometimes for accurate a metaphor. She enjoys people for all of her inability to trust them, and likes being able to make others happy, even at her own expense. Her survival instincts may sometimes lead to a perception of cowardliness, but her sense of justice levies fiercely against her jadedness, to the point where she will fight for what she believes in, even if a part of her insists that it's all for nought.

HISTORY
Anouk's life has been something of a tumultuous one, although far from the tragedy ridden sort that she is sure the majority of her teammates have experienced. Born and raised in Queens, Anouk grew up with her mother, Val, a second-generation immigrant and single mum. Val was only seventeen when she fell pregnant with Anouk, and her parents' reaction was hostile at the very least. They gave her a month to prepare herself, and then kicked her out of their home. Anouk's father was Val's boyfriend at the time, and although the pair tried to make it work, they ultimately separated, and the boyfriend was out of the picture by the time Val was three.

For all the heartache and troubles, however, the two managed to exist with few roadbumps beyond the obvious financial weight of single-parenting. Val was a tenacious woman, but more than that, she was a kind and loving one. For all her introversion and unassertiveness, people were drawn to her. She was someone dedicated to making others happy, even at her own expense, and for all those that took advantage of such a nature, she found three people her cherished her for it.

As such, Anouk ultimately found herself growing up in a community- she idolised her mother, and loved her more than anyone, but even in the woman's absence, such as when she was battling breast cancer, Anouk always had people in the neighbourhood she could trust. She was "Val's little girl," which essentially made her the perceived goddaughter of several others at any one time.

All the same, Anouk never forgot the others. The bullies and the cheats, the one's who took advantage of her mother and her kindness. And, as her powers bloomed around puberty, she found herself inclined to carrying out little acts of revenge. One especially harsh act of vindication is what brought her to the government's attention, and it wasn't long afterwards that she was affectively drafted.

As prone as she is for loathing authority, and especially the military, such a role wasn't ideal. But alas, the other option was far worse, and the money she earns with her superhero gig goes to a very important place- her mother's hospital bills.

From the comfort of a bed never made, Anouk groaned and rolled onto her other side. Now awake, she was instantly bitter, having been plucked from a lucid dream. She had spent most of it flying, and, to her delight, she had neither required wings to do so, nor experienced any such pain in the process. Suffice to say, she was far from eager to return to consciousness, where both factors were quite the opposite.

After several minutes of lying in tired reluctance, she clamoured out of bed, dropping her pyjamas to the floor in what had now become an act of lazy routine. For a brief moment, she stood naked in front of her mirror, face sleepy and sheepish. Then, she sighed, and with a grimace, put on her 'uniform'.

It never didn't hurt, but she had grown used to the pain of the scales by this point. They emerged, piercing and sharp, from beneath her skin, and folded to tuck flat against her body. Dark like deep water, they interlocked into what looked like a catsuit of navy crocodile skin. It kept the warmth in, for the most past, but nonetheless she threw on a hoodie before wandering down to the control room, as the morning chill lingered a touch too heavily. Her feet walked bare and scaled across the polished floors, and she winced at the cold, and then winced further, as she allowed the scales on her soles to thicken.

she arrived just in time to hear Kip offering what was, undoubtedly, something both insincere and unconvincing. She smiled at the first, and potentially last, amusing moment of the morning, before sidling over to Kip. In the midst of a stifled yawn, she nodded at Alvarez, concurring with Kip.

"Me too, Al. I've been up hours. 'Rise and grind' and all that."
