Rylie remained very calm. She shrugged slightly at the woman's snort. βWe aren't here to try anything. But given the present circumstances I can understand your caution.β
She inclined her head towards Daniel. βYes, I would appreciate you not killing my friend.β
Rylie could see the slightly dark shadows around Daniel and knew he was using his power to keep the obviously strong man from crushing him. The man's exclamation that Daniel wouldn't break confirmed her suspicions.
Rylie made a mental note, βStan. Alessa.β Names were always good to have.
She nodded as Daniel asserted they were just there to talk and the others that watched froze their faces in masks of shock at his ability to still breathe, let alone talk. Rylie saw the smirk on Daniel's face and was not at all surprised when he appeared beside her, leaving the strongman fumbling.
She readied a mental shield to protect them both if need be. Her breathing was slow and regular as she watched carefully for what the group might do next. As the woman, Alessa crouched, Rylie put up her shield. Pieces of rock, dirt and pavement hovered in the air around them. Beside her, Daniel watched the objects warily.
Rylie's hands were slightly out at her side, her way of focusing the invisible barrier that her mind had created. Stan moved and Rylie's eyes followed him.
Her ponytail swung slightly as she shook her head, βIt won't die down anytime soon. The militaries are here for something very specific and won't stop till one of them has it. Once they get it, well worse fighting will break out to stop the victor from using it. You misunderstand though, we don't presume to walk in and tell you we can fix your problem. We are looking for others to help us in order to protect everyone.β
Rylie looked the woman over, βNot that it is expected or owed to this city but as long as those military groups are here there will be fighting with the gangs and them hunting the streets. They will capture any super they come across and will stop at nothing to get the one item they are tracking down. We, my associates and I, have that item but we cannot move it on our own. There are too few of us.β
She inhaled slowly, βWhat we ask is a moment of your time to hear out what we have to say. If you do not want to help, well we will walk away. Nothing more than talk. We aren't here to fight. There is too much of that in this city already, we don't need to be doing it amongst ourselves.β
Rylie's tone was neutral and calm. She knew they would not be forced into helping and she in no way wanted to or could force them. If they were to help it would be because they listened and understood, wanted to help. If they wouldn't hear them out than so be it.
She kept her shield up, she wasn't sure yet if the debris would come flying at them or not and she didn't have time to deal with either of them being knocked unconcious.
"Alessa right? I am Rylie. We would like the chance to discuss things with you but I can see you have a lot to handle already." Rylie's head gestured towards those gathered around the dock. "I understand that, we have a few with us too. What we are proposing is working together to make things better for everyone."
