PRINCE KAL THELGO
═══════════════✧══════════════

Charmimg others was nothing strange for Kal. In fact, this could almost be said to be built into the siren DNA. Though he’d been told many times that his way of speaking combined with his quick wits and beauty was strong enough to persuade even other sirens into submission. But Kal had never tried to be that way, he’d always just simply been himself. Reckless, dramatic, driven by instinct rather than purpose and perhaps that’s exactly what drew others towards him. At the very least, it seemed to be what drove Nikola to trying to find him.

Truth be told, when saving the warlock, Kal had acted on pure impulse. Something that had long since been part of his nature. He didn’t stop for a moment to think of the possible consequences that would come from it. Just as he told Nikola. He had the means to save him, so he did. It was truly that simple. Not to mention he wouldn’t have been able to forgive himself if he saw this drowning boy and ignored him knowing he could have easily helped. He could have also missed out on this opportunity to meet a warlock in person, and to find out that just as he thought, the world outside the ocean knew nothing about how sirens truly were.

”So you wanted to search for me because of my beauty?” Kal smirked as he watched the warlock’a cheeks flush pink. ”I’ve gotta admit I expected a much more profound answer.” he teased, not particularly caring whether this was the real reason the boy had been drawn to him or not. His attention remained on their common point of interest. It seemed like neither species truly knew the other. Though if all warlocks were like Nikola, it would be difficult for Kal to understand why they were deemed the enemy in the first place. ”I don’t believe in that ancient sworn enemies stuff” he admitted. ”As far as I’m concerned, you’re just another innocent life that didn’t deserve to end.” This is something he had also talked about with Iría before. Kal had never understood the reasoning behind a centuries long feud. the past should always be left in the past but both sides insisted in maintaining this rivalry, and for what? There was nothing gained on either side, only fear and hatred.

”So then tell me.” he came to a stop in front of Nikola, his eyes catching the taller boy’s gaze which was obviously trying to focus on anything but him. The image of the drowning boy flooded Kal’s mind and in that moment he felt an inexplicable sense of relief that he’d been the one to find him, and not the sirens that had attempted to kill him in the first place. He could see the fear in Nikola’s eyes in that moment very clearly, as well as the distinct tattoo that covered his arm. ”What exactly have you been told about us, your majesty?”

LADY SORN DI GENOVA
═══════════════✧══════════════
═════════════════════════════════════════
Sorn felt an unsettling sense of nervousness the moment Nikola disappeared with Kal. She could have completely chalked it up to her worrying for his safety, but she knew that wasn’t the case. The moment her eyes unintentionally caught Iria’s she knew the girl had a lot to do with it. It wasn’t fear, as would be expected when in the presence of a siren. No, it was jitters. The kind one felt on a first date, or in Sorn’s case, the kind she felt when attracted to someone. [b]”I know Nikola is a warlock. Kal told me. Are you one as well?”[/color] though her question was stern, and just seconds prior she’d been glaring daggers towards Nikola, there was an underlying softness to her voice.

Sorn couldn’t help but to smile a bit as the girl continues with her questions, not giving her much of a chance in edgewise. Somehow, Iría was both nothing and exactly what Sorn imagined a siren would be. She was painfully beautiful, a bit intimidating and obviously very level headed. But there was a kind, softer undertone to her words that Sorn hadn’t expected to hear. ”There’s no hidden motive, if that’s what you’re worried about.” the redhead finally spoke, her eyes glancing in the direction the boys had walked off to. ”Niko is very grateful for what Kal did. As am I. We may not be blood relatives, we may not even be the same species, but Nikola is like family. I don’t know what I’d do without him” the vampire explained, being as transparent as she could. It was obvious that Iría didn’t trust them, and in all honesty, Sorn didn’t fully trust either. However, that didn’t change the fact that the two owed Kal a great debt.

”I’m only here to make sure he makes it back home safely.” Sorn adds, knowing Iría could at least understand that. She wanted nothing more than to befriend this beautiful siren girl, despite common sense telling her it was a terrible idea. ”So now that we know none of us are human, let me formally introduce myself.” the redhead chimes, features illuminating with excitement. ”Sorn Di Génova, Nikola’s best and only vampire friend”

Nikola hadn’t quite realized what he’d said until Kal said it like that, and he couldn’t help but flush at the siren’s words. Neither of them had a profound reason for finding each other, and yet here they were together again. Nikola was just glad that this time he wasn’t on the brink of death and needing to be saved. And he had no witty reply; he wasn’t used to talking to a handsome boy like this.

Him and Sorn were familiar enough to have casual conversations, but everyone else treated him as a fragile prince that couldn’t be normal. His father only saw him as a disappointment. His sisters were too involved in their own arrangements to ever have a proper conversation. And the rest were too aware of his status to ever treat him as equal. In most people’s eyes, he was a superior being just because of his parents, even without seeing his true magical ability. That was why Sorn was his only friend, she made him feel like just another person. He was starting to feel this way with Kal too, even though the two barely knew each other.

And Kal seemed to have the same curiosity as he did, wanting to know if this rivalry their species shared with one another was truly worth it. Nikola could admit that they were probably both outliers, considering Nikola was not what first came to mind when warlocks were mentioned. He was sure anyone would think of his father: a mountain of a man with a terrifying control of the darkness. That was how their family stayed on the throne for years, arranging their sons with powerful women to make them the most powerful creatures to roam the Earth.

Kal was also not the first thing that came to mind, rather, the sirens that stole Nikola from the land painted a better picture of what Nikola had been told of sirens. Dangerously beautiful, and could make anyone their prey with just a pretty look. He knew all too well their power, which was another reason why Kal intrigued him.

The siren in question planted himself in front of Nikola and locked his gaze, leaving Nikola no choice but to look down at him. His eyes widened as Kal called him that name reserved only for royalty. ”How did you…?” Nikola whispers, subconsciously clutching to his arm where his tattoo was safely hidden under the fabric. He wasn’t sure if the two sirens attacked him knew it was a royal mark, but Kal certainly did. ”You must know then that my father would have told me whatever he needed to keep me away from the ocean,” Nikola adds, keeping Kal’s gaze as his always wandering mind started to ramble out of his mouth.

”Warlock children are warned of sirens coming to pull them away into the water if they didn’t listen to their parents. We were always taught that sirens were evil creatures who could only think of bloodlust. The ‘demons of the sea’. I almost believed it when… those two…” Nikola’s mind flashes to that day, the two pairs of eyes pulling him in and the claws that dragged him down.

Only for the sense of dread to be replaced by relief, looking back to the siren in front of him. ”You saving me has made me question everything I know.” Nikola finishes with a soft, hopeful smile. He was going against everything he knew and all the warning signs, but Kal was there to continue pulling him into the unknown, where he could learn what the world was truly like outside of the suffocating warlock castle walls.

It had been some time since Iria actually felt attraction for someone. Being around the prince meant she saw many beautiful women, hoping to be his bride, but she was honestly quite bored of the ‘siren beauty’. The main reason she followed Kal up to land was to see what other kind of beauty was out there. There were plenty of fair ladies around the village they had picked, but the moment she saw the flash of red hair, Sorn Di Genova caught her eye.

Her being with the warlock Kal saved only complicates things, but now that they were away from the two boys, she could admire Sorn more. She definitely seemed more like Kal and less like the warlock Nikola. Though it was obvious she shares the same concern Iria has, only for Nikola, watching the two boys walk off. She didn’t trust either of them, but she could understand that they weren’t that different from each other. ”Kal is really the only friend I have. So please excuse me if I come off overprotective. He’s like a young brother, I love him dearly but he can be, quite frankly, an idiot sometimes,” Iria sighs as she responds to Sorn’s comments about her relationship with Nikola.

It was bad, but she felt better knowing that the two weren’t romantic in any way. This wasn’t an ideal situation for any of them, it would be dangerous if either side found out of the species mingling like this. Still, she was amused by this girl, who identified herself as a vampire. ”Vampire, huh?” Iria murmurs, looking the girl up and down. She wasn’t as knowledgeable about this species, and was curious how a vampire came to befriend a warlock. Though if she remembered properly, warlocks were able to coexist with most other species, just not the sirens.

”Iria. I’m still Kal’s only friend, siren or not.” Iria says with just a hint of a smirk, folding her arms over her chest and examining the vampire in front of her. ”So, Sorn, how does a vampire become friends with a warlock?”

PRINCE KAL THELGO
═══════════════✧══════════════
When it came to warlock royalty, Kal didn’t know all, but the pointers he’d been taught if it ever came to a point where he’d have to defend himself against them on land had been enough to identify Nikola as one. Sirens were avid believers of avoiding physical confrontations with warlocks wherever possible, though were taught how to fight them if necessary, but the main lessons were that members of the royal warlock family not only specialized in certain types of magic, but were also marked with a tattoo. One that was distinct to the rest of the warlock species. Kal had recognized it on the spot the day before when he first met Nikola, as he’d spent hours studying about what they meant. If there was one thing about the young prince that was true to the siren nature, it was his knowledge. Trained to not only know about the world around him, but also know how to manipulate and use it to his advantage. On top of that, Kal had something most sirens didn’t. Experience.

He’d spent enough time on land to know which lessons were true to fact, and which needed to be tweaked a bit. He’d met just about every species imaginable. And now, he’d finally met a warlock in person. When it came down to it, even on land, Kal was not at a large disadvantage. He had both the books and street smarts necessary to protect himself, and if he truly wanted to, could easily persuade Nikola to do as he pleased. Ironically enough, believed him to be the most harmless. The thought made Kal chuckle quietly. In truth, he would never hurt Nikola. It would go against everything he believed in. But he had the means to easily do it, and that is what made the situation so amusing.
Kal hummed in response to Nikola’s tellings about how sirens were painted as evil beings, but he couldn’t disagree. What Nikola was told wasn’t too far from the truth, even if it didn’t specifically apply to Kal himself. ”Don’t be so quick to let your guard down.” Kal warned as he continued to walk. ”Just because I helped you doesn’t mean others will. In fact...most of that is true.” There was a very low, almost non-existent chance that any other siren he met would do what Kal did. ”Besides…” Kal slowed down his pace, glancing up at Nikola as he spoke his next sentence. ”What makes you so sure this isn’t all part of my elaborate plan to kill you?” He was joking, of course, though he wasn’t sure if Nikola would realize it.

LADY SORN DI GENOVA
═══════════════✧══════════════
Sorn was rather surprised at how quickly Iria’s anger seemed to dwindle. If she had to guess, she’d say it was most;y directed towards Nikola. Of course the vampire was fully aware of the bad blood between the species, so she knew better than to take said anger personally. Were she one of the too, she would most likely be weary herself. Iria, however, seemed to relax a little as they spoke. She explained her relationship with Kal, and Sorn was oddly relieved. She wanted to believe it was because she didn’t want to see Nikola heartbroken by the news that his siren boy was spoken for. However, deep down she knew that it was more of her being glad Iria wasn’t. At least that’s what she hoped.

She could fully relate to the siren’s explanation of why she was protective of Kal, though Sorn wouldn’t exactly say Nikola was an idiot. In fact, out of the two, she often tended to be that. ”An idiot, huh? I’ve always thought sirens to be mentally superior to other species.” Sorn joked. Of course she knew what the girl meant. Five minutes spent with Kal was enough to confirm it. He appeared to be whimsical, the type to often find himself in trouble. The exact opposite of Nikola. Though Sorn knew there were a million ways this could end badly, perhaps spending some time with him was just what Nikola needed. If anything, it would be a fresh change from his life spent within the warlock castle walls.

”Well…” Sorn hummed, Iria’s question filling her head. ”Honestly, they don’t.” she admits, briefly recalling how she and Nikola had met. ”Warlocks are not the type to make friends with anyone, and if I’m being honest, Niko is the only one I actually like.” there was a slight smirk playing on her lips. Though it was a bit of an exaggeration, it wasn’t a lie. Sorn had met many warlocks during her young vampire life, and most were arrogant, a-class assholes. Nikola had stood out to her the second they met. At first she thought it was due to a crush, but in the end realized it was because he was kind, caring, humble unlike most of his people.

”We met at a banquet. I was very young, but old enough to know when someone was being ingenuine. And then I met Niko. He didn’t fit in with the rest, and I liked that.” the retelling of the story almost made Sorn worry for her prince’s safety again. She knew he was easily persuaded, siren or not. ”I’m sure since that day, our parents have wanted us to get married.” she added with a giggle. ”But unfortunately, we’re not each other’s types.” she didn’t want to give too many details to this girl she’d known for less than ten minutes, but she did hope that Iria could read between the lines.

Nikola knew that Kal was probably the only siren that wouldn’t hesitate to kill him on the spot. Still, he had hope, even if it was pure naivety, that they were more that thought like them. Kal said it himself that he never really believed in the rivalry, and Nikola had never felt any hatred or anger toward the sirens. He was surrounded by it, from his father to the knights he employed, even his sisters, felt some sort of personal vendetta against a species they’d never even met before. Nikola had a fearful curiosity towards the idea of sirens, and even the ones that tried to drown him harbored more fear than hatred.

Finding Kal was the first step in quelling the curiosity within him by exploring the land he would supposedly rule one day. The castle walls had become his cage, and the expectations of being the heir was overwhelming. The cool breeze of the village and the surprising comfort of walking aimlessly with Kal made Nikola feel more human, even if he and Kal were anything but human.

Nikola didn’t catch on to the siren’s joke at first, tensing just at the mention of killing him. And he tried to hide his sigh of relief once he realized Kal was only teasing him. ”It would seem a bit pointless after saving my life,” Nikola finally responds with a bit of a chuckle. ”Also, if you knew I was a prince, then you also know an act like that would be a declaration of war.”

Nikola wasn’t totally clueless when it came to his father and how eager he was to battle. Any reason to don his armor and lead his army to kill and conquer gave his father more joy than Nikola or his sisters ever could. The king wanted nothing more than to start war with the sirens and finally prove the stronger species, but with the fragile peace between the two species lasting for so long, He only needed a reason to draw his sword. He made sure that Nikola had plenty of combat and magic lessons, hoping to turn his peaceful prince into the next war king. But war was the last thing Nikola ever wanted.

Nikola looked over his shoulder, noticing how far they strayed from the village. With a sigh, he turns back to Kal. ”I don’t think I can stay much longer…” Nikola trails off.

Truthfully, he would take any excuse to stay longer in Kal’s presence, but he knew the consequences of disobeying his father and he was sure he already passed his curfew. He took a moment, looking down to his feet, before looking back up at Kal with a hopeful gaze. ”Could I… see you again? Would you even want to see me again?” Nikola asks the second question quieter, almost not wanting Kal to hear in fear of being rejected.

Iria was usually not this calm around strangers, especially in the uncomfortable situation that being on the land gave her. She didn’t like the way her body felt on the land, she missed the freeing depths of the ocean. But she was slowly getting used to it, and talking with Sorn made her more comfortable than she expected. Maybe it was the fact that she wasn’t a warlock, or the way she spoke about Nikola in a similar way to Iria talking about Kal, but her need to protect Kal could be swelled for the time being.

Kal wasn’t really an idiot, but Sorn’s joke made it seem like she understood that. Sorn seemed much more like the siren prince than her own companion, her words lined with smiles and laughs as she spoke. Iria didn’t like to be around people like herself, she needed people like Kal and Sorn. Although she came off as a rough and aggressive person sometimes, it was her loyalty to her friends and those she cared about. She was surprisingly loyal for a siren, and since so many people decided to walk away from her and not care about her, she kept those that stayed close.

Her and Kal clicked from the moment they met, and from Sorn’s story, it sounded like she and Nikola had done the same. Iria was aware that Nikola wasn’t the average warlock already, but Sorn’s words only proved it. They seemed to be more solitary, arrogant creatures, which did not fit the warlock she met at all, it was almost comical. She raised her eyebrows at the mention of marriage, and picked up the hidden message, which made her stomach flip.

”So your warlock doesn’t want a pretty woman like you on his arm?” Iria asks rhetorically, giving Sorn a quick elevator glance. With just the two of them, she felt more comfortable being casual with the other woman, ”His loss.”

She looks in the direction the two boys walked off in, getting a bit nervous. ”I haven’t been on land much before now. I had to borrow some clothes from Kal and they don’t quite fit exactly. I’m ready to go back under… no offense to you or… the warlock.”
