Introduction

A 7 year old girl would sit in front of a fire, listening to a much older woman tell a magnificent story. The old woman would smile down at her and say, "My child you are destined for greatness. Do you know why?" The girl would smile and nod replying, "I am a sorcerer's apprentice." The woman would smile and start the story by saying, "For every great sorcerer there is a young boy or girl whom he chooses as his companion." The young girls eyes would light up, brighter than the fire she sat in front of. "You, Crissa, have been choosen by one of these great madgicians," the elderly story-teller would continue. "And like every sorcerer's apprentice he will come for you 11 days after your sixteenth birthday and take you away to teach you magic, and you will do?" the woman questions. Crissa would smirk and say, "Whatever my heart tells me Grandma Dotti." Dotti would nod and praise, "Very good my child, and then what?" "Then, he will tell of how he has watched me mature into a beautiful young lady and confess his love for me, and give me his amulet." the child smiled. The old woman nodded and said, "Very good, now go to bed, and make sure you say your prayers." Crissa would nod, but look up to ask, "Grandma Dotti what would happen if my sorcerer loses his amulet or it breaks or something before he can give it to me?" Dotti would shake her head and say, "He would not come for you out of shame, and he would never forgive himself. His heart would shatter, for without the amulet he cannot be with you, his one true love. He would search for the amulet until the end of time if he had to...." Crissa's eyes would get wide and she would say quietly, "I think I will go to bed now, and pray that my sorcerer's amulet stays safe." Dotti would wave her off, and think of her own sorcerer who never came. Meanwhile, in Crissa's room she prays, "Dear Lord, I am sorry for stealing that cookie from the cookie jar today and I am sorry that I accidently stepped on the cat. I am very happy that you have permitted Grandma Dotti another day on earth and I am glad that you have done the same for me. Anyways I was just wondering, if you see my sorcerer can you let him know about the amulet thing?I would sure hate it if something bad would happen to it...thank you lord and in Jesus Name Amen.

The same story was told to Tessa and Jessamyn every night before they went to bed, but all three girls had a sorcerer who didn't show up on the given date...

I prayed every night as hard as I could, but it didn't work, for now as I blow out the 17 candles on my birthday cake, I realize my sorcerer is never coming. This follows three apprentices in their journey to find their sorcerer.

((No longer accepting sorry..but three apprentices and three sorcerer's is enough :) ))

She curled up into a ball, and turned so that her back was towards him. She rubbed her bare arms nervously, trying to keep her mind off of anything that could trigger the end of the world.

"I remember the one time my mom and dad were both there for me. It was during fifth grade when a girl named Misty pushed me down the stairs and I ended up flooding her locker. At the time I didn't understand why and my mom tried to tell me how special I was while my dad tried to tell me that it had been my imagination. I was thinking about that day when I jumped, and how I'd kill to see my mom again..and to see my dad happy again," she frowned, trailing off and looking into space. "Do you ever think dust particles wonder what they did to deserve their horrible life. Constantly being evicted from their homes...sneezed on..and drowned..?"

Marcus shook his head, "Yeah, but do you think they would want you to kill yourself? I mean, honestly?" He ran his finger through his hair, "I thought you where dead for sure. That the entire reason I'm even alive had just...Died. I'm really sorry your family fell apart Tessa, I really am. I would fix everything if I could, but...." He trailed off, not bothering to finish his sentence. Marcus shook his head, "Well, some people are allergic to the bugs they live around dust, and dust can make people sick. Most dust is dirt with plant pollen and dead skin mixed in it. But...I think that dust knows what it's getting itself into when it invades someone's home. And in the case that the dust was there first then we humans are a cruel people, we take without asking."

"A lot of people take things without asking. Do things without thinking...it's life. It's like...life," she mused, fixing her gaze on the wall in front of her.

Marcus sighed and rubbed Tessa's back, he really didn't know what to say to her. He decided that maybe he should just keep his big mouth closed, so he wouldn't make it worse. Because he was sure he could do that without even trying.

She just brought her knees to her chest and set her chin on them, talking to herself quietly. "You can't thik of it, don't think, you'll kill everyone, you kill people...." she kept repeating in nothing above a faint whisper.
