|History|

Luna was born to Pandora and Xenophillus Lovegood on February thirteenth. She was born an only child and so it was the three of them for a good portion of her childhood. Luna's mother Pandora often would attempt and try new spells, but unfortunately one time something when wrong and her mother died when she was only at the young age of nine. Ever since her father had to raise her all by himself. Which wasn't bad for the most part.

Most of Luna's past is well known, so flash forward to her years in Hogwarts. It was during her sixth year that she had attended the wedding of Fleur Delacour and Bill Weasley with her father. At the wedding her father had made her wear yellow as it was good luck. Luna was a bit embarrassed, but it wasn't too bad.

In her sixth year when she was going home for Christmas, dementors had captured her all because her father had posted articles in favour of Harry. There were speculations on where Luna was being kept. Most thought she was imprisoned in Azkaban, but she was really just trapped in Malfoy manner with the famous wandmaker, Ollivander. At some point Luna was joined by Harry, Ron, Dean Thomas, and Griphook the goblin while Hermione had been tortured by Bellatrix Lestrange upstairs for information. It wasn't long until Luna cut the new people from their bonds and Dobby showed up. Her, Ollivander, and Dean had been taken to Shell cottage by Dobby.

Luna stayed at Shell cottage until May when Neville had given her the signal that the trio was back at Hogwarts, and all of DA was reassembled and ready for battle. Luna played a part in helping Harry find the lost diadem and late helped fight off a bunch of dementors with the trio and few others with her patronus, encouraging Harry to think happy thoughts. Luna had helped until the end of the battle and was one of the first few to congratulate Harry on his victory and even helped him escape the big celebrations to just have time with Ron and Hermione.

It didn't take long for Luna to decide that she wanted to go back to Hogwarts and complete her seventh year. She decided that since Lord Voldemort had been murdered there was nothing to fear at the school, and she wanted to complete her time at Hogwarts. She was more than happy to hear that several of her good friends were returning to Hogwarts to finish off their schooling.

So begins...

As far as first days back went, Harry ranked this one somewhere between third year and sixth. The danger was gone, sure, but he still felt like something was...dark. The last time he'd been in the Great Hall, the floor had been littered with bodies. That wasn't the kind of thing he could forget, and he had a feeling plenty of others couldn't either.

The hall had been completely restored over the last year, and it was beautiful once again even in its sadness, the enchanted ceiling above them promising a nice day full of sunshine with a cool fall breeze. The First Years had come in all bright smiles and promising youth, and it'd been nice. To see things...normal.

He didn't feel as out of place as he thought he would, sitting at the very front of the hall in his purple robes. McGonagall had explained in her letter that it was to tell them apart from the underage students, especially from afar, as they were allowed different privileges. He also had a feeling it had something to do with unity...the younger years had class periods set aside to work on Interhouse Cooperation, but the Eighth Years were already forced to do so. Didn't keep them from splitting up...the former Slytherin's were on one side of the table, the former Gryffindor's on the other, the Ravenclaw's and Hufflepuff's between them. It wasn't surprising.

Harry was sure McGonagall was giving a lovely speech, but he couldn't focus. Most of his attention was on the piece of parchment in his hand, folding it, opening it, refolding it, over and over again, like a bad habit he couldn't seem to kick. It had his resolutions on it. He'd never been one for the tradition, but it seemed important this year. This year when he was getting a chance to start again. When they all were. He didn't want to waste it.
1. Work hard, study hard. Stay out of trouble.
2. Forgive. Forget. Move on.
3. Write to Ron, be good for Hermione.
4. Be a good friend to Ginny.
5. Don't fight with Malfoy.
It was a good list, Harry thought. Technically the Auror program would have accepted him back with or without a complete education...perks of saving the Wizarding World he supposed, but he was determined to do it right. Sometimes he felt like a vat of magical energy and like he had no idea how to actually control it. Like all this time he'd been fumbling around and just forcing out power and hoping for the best. Which sounded about right, actually.

He was determined to move on, as well. The rest of the world had, for better or worse. There were people he had already forgiven, but more he needed to, and things that just...weren't important anymore, given the givens. Ron had decided not to return to school, or the Auror program at all, after a bit of thinking. He figured George needed him more, and they'd agreed to reopen Weasley Wizard Wheezes together. It felt odd, sitting at the table without him, and his free hand found Hermione's without him even really thinking about it, giving it a gentle squeeze. He knew he needed to keep himself together, because she would call him out on it eventually.

And then there was Ginny. The breakup had been easy, if a little surprising to them both. Harry loved her, and he always would, but...not in the way he'd originally thought. They'd parted on good terms, and although things were still a little awkward, they were still friends. As for Malfoy...his plan thus far was just to avoid him, and leave boyhood squabbles where they belonged. In the past.

The hall was loud, cheerful voices rising and falling over each other, the professors laughing with one another. It was good, Harry thought, and he should be happy about it...but really, it was just making his head hurt. He crumbled up his piece of paper, shoved it in his pocket, and picked up his drink instead. The taste of Pumpkin Juice made him screw up his nose, and he sighed out of exhaustion. He needed a drink. A real drink. He'd made a promise to himself to quit, or at least cut back, but he was feeling like he deserved a cheat day, first day back and all...

"Now, as for you lot." Professor McGonagall had stepped down from the head of the room, now standing at the edge of their table. The rest of the hall fell to background noise, no doubt magically, as she glanced over each of their faces knowingly for a moment. "Obviously, this is a new program, so we are all on a bit of a learning curve. I'm sure you each gathered from my letter that, as you are adults, you will be treated as such. Keep in mind, this means I expect you to behave as much."

Harry was almost certain he felt her gaze move from him across the table to Malfoy, but he refused to look. "This means that you have fewer rules than any of the other years. You will be allowed to leave the grounds as you please, move about the castle freely, and have access to areas usually not permitted. Do not abuse this privilege," she paused for a moment to let that sink in before continuing. "I do, however, expect you to be in your common room by two in the morning. If you wish to spend the weekend off grounds, all I ask for is an owl to alert me as such. I am aware you are all of drinking age, but if I see alcohol on the grounds, you will be swiftly and severely punished, is that understood?"

There was a collection of nods, some dropped shoulders, but Harry didn't let it bother him. The rule pertained to her 'seeing' the alcohol, after all. It was a very Slytherin loophole for him to focus on, but a loophole nonetheless. "Unfortunately, the lot of you won't be permitted to participate in usual extracurriculars. It was decided among the staff that it wouldn't be quite fair to take away opportunities from the younger students. I do believe your extra freedoms should make up for this."

When there were no arguments, McGonagall gave a decisive nod, then her eyes searched the table again, landing on the few students whose robes were still red, yellow, blue, or green. "There are a few of you that your age determines you are still technically Seventh Years, though you'll be permitted to take Eight Year classes. I've allowed you to sit with your classmates, as well as room with them. However, I should point out that your age restricts you from some of their privileges, and I trust you to know which those are."

It was another announcement met with slight disappointment, but McGonagall moved on. "Shall I show you to your rooms, then?

Harry sighed and tapped his fingers against his glass three times before lifting it to his lips. This time, when he took a drink, he could clearly taste the bitter undertone of alcohol.

Theodore Nott did not know exactly why he chose to return to Hogwarts. Well, that wasn't true. He did know why. He loved the castle. It had become a home for him where Nott Manor had long since become a mausoleum/torture chamber. The very air bristled with magic and the walls whispered secrets long forgotten. Seven short years could never be enough to probe its depths. What he couldn't stand were the people.

They all stared at him and the others, conspicuous as they were in their purple ties at the front of the hall. The younger students pointed and asked questions of their elder peers and said peers whispered back. He glanced around at his peers. Professor McGonagall could speak about House unity all she wanted, but no amount of classes or symbolism would change human nature. Still, like a good student, he listened to the new Headmistress and nodded like he was supposed to.

"Shall I show you to your rooms, then?"

"I have no objections," he stated with a shrug. He glanced at the others. Harry Potter seemed to be lost in his thoughts, not that Theo could blame other boy. He had gone through a lot during the war. They all had, but Potter had it particularly bad. Having a psychopath out for your blood would do that to you. He heard he even got captured. At that thought, Theo's blood ran cold and he couldn't suppress the urge to look at another student. She looked so innocent and filled with light, but rumor had it that Luna Lovegood had disappeared for months during the war, captured by Death Eaters they said. A part of him didn't want to know if it was true or not. He didn't want to know if his father had been there, if she had suffered under his knife and his wand and his whip, but he couldn't keep not knowing. It wasn't in his nature.

So, he determined that he should speak with her when given the chance or perhaps find out from Draco. He had taken the Mark after all. He would know.

Ginny had spent the morning staring herself in the mirror.

Of course, she hadn't spent the entire morning inspecting her reflection, but a long gaze into the silver-framed glass had certainly been the most notable of her morn excursions. But, oddly, it hadn't been vanity to keep her stare from fracturing, to root her to the spot, looking deeply into something that she rarely gave a second glance.

She wasn't admiring her admittedly pretty face, or picking out flaws in her appearance as girls her age are unfortunately wont to do. She was peering at her robes.

Black and purple, uniformly (after all, they were a uniform) and simple. And emblazoned on the breast, an emblem that she never thought she'd bear again.

Before putting them on, she'd hesitated, thinking back to the owl-delivered letter, informing her that she was invited to attend Hogwarts once more, if she so desired. She'd considered. Then decided against it. Then had doubts. Then was encouraged into it. Even then, as she was preparing for the journey, her fingers danced in cunctatious silence over the clasps, wondering whether or not she was ready to pace those hallowed halls again. What happened to that nerve you used to have, Ginny? She'd asked herself, frustration blossoming in the midst of her indecision. Did Voldemort take that from you to? It had been that mental comment to shake her from her oscillation. Her steadfast determination not to let that, that noseless bastard screw her over from beyond the grave.

So here she was.

Glancing over the other students, she smiled wryly as she noted their arrangement. Even after house points meant nothing and quidditch was a hobby rather than an extracurricular activity, it seemed that the rivalry had sustained itself. She glanced at Harry, a boy with -quite understandably- a lot on his mind, and frowned at the paper he was toying with.

A slight awkwardness had settled between them, Harry seemingly more affected than she. Again, such a thing was hardly a shock, as breakups had a tendency to make the two members of the prior relationship slightly at odds. But it had been mutual, and they had parted as friends.

At least, she hoped they were still friends. She honestly couldn't understand why they wouldn't be.

But then again, perhaps that's just a sign that their previous relationship was already doomed.

"Now, as for you lot."

Ginny's gaze snapped upwards, her attention turning to a with that, even in her old age, proved to be just as tough as any old deatheater. Naturally, this had resulted in her being Ginny's favourite teacher. "Obviously, this is a new program, so we are all on a bit of a learning curve. I'm sure you each gathered from my letter that, as you are adults, you will be treated as such. Keep in mind, this means I expect you to behave as much. This means that you have fewer rules than any of the other years. You will be allowed to leave the grounds as you please, move about the castle freely, and have access to areas usually not permitted. Do not abuse this privilege." Her eyes met Ginny's, as though this particular point was directed more at the younger redhead than the others. Ginny sank a little in her seat, and smiled guiltily. "I do, however, expect you to be in your common room by two in the morning. If you wish to spend the weekend off grounds, all I ask for is an owl to alert me as such. I am aware you are all of drinking age, but if I see alcohol on the grounds, you will be swiftly and severely punished, is that understood?" Ginny nodded along with the others. "Unfortunately, the lot of you won't be permitted to participate in usual extracurriculars. It was decided among the staff that it wouldn't be quite fair to take away opportunities from the younger students. I do believe your extra freedoms should make up for this."

"There are a few of you that your age determines you are still technically Seventh Years, though you'll be permitted to take Eight Year classes. I've allowed you to sit with your classmates, as well as room with them. However, I should point out that your age restricts you from some of their privileges, and I trust you to know which those are." Ginny's brows furrowed, although she obviously did not vocally object.

Ginny's eyes flickered to Harry again, and as he tapped his glass thrice before moving it to his lips, her lips quirked in humored silence. I guess some things never change.

"Shall I show you to your rooms, then?" Ginny nodded, finishing her drink before rising.
