Introduction

[font=Lucida Console]
The last thing you remember was that you died. You sense that you aren't alone. "Right on time," the voice pauses and the silence stretches on until it forms a sense of nervousness shivering on your spine. "You don’t remember? You died, remember?" A group of voices laugh. "I see moderate potential in you, would you like to work for me? You could say it’s another chance at life" As the group await for your response, you begin to shake your hand frequently as your mind is flooded with worry and relief at the same time. For whatever reason, you looked over the essence of details and quickly agree without asking any question about the job details. A cold grip grabs your shoulder and now you're at the same spot where you have died, however, no one remembers of your momentary death. You examine your body quickly, you look fine, no missing limbs and organs, basically everything is in place. In actuality, you feel better than you ever have. That's when you notice something , an extremely bright cuff and an attached chain around your wrist, you follow it to the hand of another person. The nightmare has just begun, the lethal scythe slung over their shoulder like an ordinary accessory leaves you speechless and lost for words.
It turns out that you have made a deal with a Reaper by signing a contract with blood-red ink. They fill you in on every chilling detail including the part about being bound to them forever...or until you decide it's time to die yet again. A Reaper’s special duty is to safely escort the dead on their journey to the afterlife. They also protect the dead from evil spirits and demons trying to devour them for power and vitality. This is something that you will have to do for an eternity. However, there are some benefits and drawbacks from being a Reaper. Unless you're severely injured by an evil spirit, you will never die. You have the appearance of the human and you can return to your family or whatever/wherever that makes you happy. However, you’re required to see your closest friends and your loved ones grow and die while you remain the same. Also, your soul is bounded to the Reaper that you signed a contract with. Furthermore should you ever attempt to desert them, they will either kill you or you can move on to the afterlife. If you ever grow tired of being a spirit chaser, betraying the Reaper is a good way to end the contract and the agreement and move on to the afterlife.
This is your new life, as a Reaper-in-training. You are assigned to a certain squad codenamed "Se7en Sins" which is made up of 7 reapers-in training led by a Head Reaper. You can carry about your daily routine, but at any time or place, you may have to safely escort a spirit on their journey to the afterlife or fight with a murderous spirit/demon. However, the Pantheon (a group of 5 gods and goddesses) plan to stop you at a moment’s notice with the purpose of creating a perfect utopia and to oversee death in their own way. Will you stop the Pantheon and keep the world in balance?
Reaper Abilities (see The Powers of A Reaper for More Details)
-Immortality: A reaper cannot be killed by normal means like humans. They can only be killed by evil spirits, or another Reaper.
-Ghost Steps: In order to do their jobs without being noticed by humans, Reapers have the ability to step into another spirit world on earth. Everything looks the same, but instead of humans walking around, it's wandering souls and evil spirits. This is where they find both to send them on. Apprentices have to be careful, their power can be sensed by spirits and staying too long would mean getting swarmed by the enemy.
-Individual Power: all Reapers have two specialized abilities, one is something physical and the other is a mental/magical one.
-Grave Dance: His is a final move all Reapers do to send spirits on. The act depends on the individual, it could be anything, a phrase or something more intricate. Apprentices get to make up their own after serving long enough.
-Homeward Bound: this is just a quick slice in thin air, or any other place, to open a portal back up to the Reaper world, where actualized Reapers call home.
There is no character limit but the ones listed above are the main roles, if you want to participate, you're free to do so

The Story So Far... Write a Post » as written by 4 authors

Evangeline could only think of one thing to do at that moment to get out of there as quickly as possible. It was what she wanted to do at the time she had been murdered, though she had been unable to. Run.
"Rand," she said. "Let's sprint for it. Unless, of course, you've got a better idea. In which case, let's hear it."
Meanwhile, in the afterlife. Mikel then came up to Pagan seeing her torturing her father yet again. Coming towards her. Mikel said to her "Geez, you sure must love your dad a lot" in a sarcastic tone of voice. "Seriously, I think your dad's had enough torture, why don't I take care of it" Mikel added to Pagan. Noticing the blood running down the side of Pagan's face, he wiped it away with his hands. Getting out his scythe, Mikel looked at Pagan's dad with a sense of seriousness. Mikel's eyes were piercing and serious. He may not sem serious at first but when it comes to punishment for souls that have committed sins, he shows the word "seriousness" on his face...

"You are right" Rand said to Eve and grabbed her hand to avoid getting lost in the mist. "We need to move, now"

She grasped onto her scythe tightly, her knuckles turning white as she did so.

"We have to get through, I don't think we can open it once it closes!" Rand shouted at Eve and pushed her in front of him.

She charged forward faster than she thought she could go, still gripping Rand's hand so tight that her own hand was numb. And yet, the door was still closing... But they were so close! Evangeline felt the hellish souls nipping at her heels. The demonic heat scorched her inside and out, threatening to trip her up or slow her down. They couldn't afford either. They were closing in fast on the door. Three feet, two, one... With a cry, Eve crashed through the small opening and turned around just in time to pull with all her might on Rand's forearm, yanking him through with her, and out of the fiery depths of hell. She stumbled backwards, pulling them both to the ground.

"Think this was a lesson to teach us what will happen if we go back on our contract?" Rand exclaimed as the thought came to him. If they went back on their contracts there is little doubt they would be sentenced to eternal damnation. He shivered at the thought of going back to that place.

"I think... That's our new everyday job," she said. "On the bright side, maybe not all the spirits will go to hell. Maybe we'll get a good one, and a trip on the road to the Pearly Gates. I mean, not every spirit is hell bound, right?" She brushed a lock of sizzling black hair out of her face and fanned herself with her hand. The demonic heat still hadn't worn off. A small breeze blew north, bringing some slight relief from the sting off the remaining hellish heat and mist.

"I just wonder what are we supposed to do during our downtime? I mean... do we just go about out lives normally back in the real world?" Rand asked Eve. It may be easy for him since he lived alone anyways, but for Eve who still saw her family on a daily basis it must be awkward.

"-and I probably won't see them ever again." she avoided touching on that notion. "And in four or five years, my sister will be older than me! Physically, anyways. Then, she'll end up marrying, having kids... all that good stuff. And I'll watch it all happen." She thought about what it would be like to see her future nieces and nephews. Eve probably wouldn't be able to appear to them. It would just be too strange.

"We should probably find our wayward teacher and let him know that the mission was a success" Rand said to Eve.

"Yeah," she breathed. "Let's get going." She began walking shakily, thoughts occupied by the future.

"That's right your body is all better now" a familiar feminine voice said from somewhere around his ankles. Rand looked down to see a most unusual black cat.
"That is it. I have officially gone insane. A cat is talking to me" Rand said more to himself than to Eve.
"What is so bad about being spoken to by a feline of my stature" It said to Rand. "Some thanks I get for guiding you out of Hell"
Rand was at the end of his rope, but then again the voices did match. Maybe this was some kind of Reaper thing again. Logic seemed to hold no place in this world.

I guess you wouldn't take so kindly to a talking bird either, Evangeline."
She felt a pressure on her shoulder. Eve slowly turned her head to see a small, sleek raven perched there. On. Her. Shoulder.
Eve jumped and swatted the thing away. "Sweet Jesus!" she yelled in surprise.
The raven fluttered onto the ground before her. "My dearest Evangeline, it would be wise not to mention such a name in an inappropriate place such as the Underworld."
Eve grew more suspicious, less surprised. "Don't call me 'dearest'. Now, who are you, why are you here, and why are you speaking?"
She looked over at Rand, as if to say, You see this too, right?
Eve turned back to the raven, who began talking again. "I am your familiar, Evangeline, here to assist and guide you on your many Reaper duties. My name is Saphier. But you may call me anything you like."
Eve was stunned. She crouched down and held her hand out. The small bird stepped into her palm, and she rose again. Despite the downright strangeness of the situation, Eve smiled at the raven, Saphier. It's voice reminded her of a... librarian. It was odd, but that's what it reminded her of. She wasn't sure why. Even so, Evangeline found that she may start to like this bird.
She looked down at the black cat. "Thanks for helping us back there."
Mikel looked at Pagan's father, her father had hate in his eyes, his hands shaky and murderous and he had a grim and devilish smile on his face.
Looking at Mikel with an evil intent, he attempted to attack Mikel with his sinned and bloodstained hands. However, Mikel stopped him with his scythe and sliced his head forming a deep and bloody gash on his head. Enraged, Pagan's father strangled Mikel. Mikel gasped for air as he started to lose consciousness. As Mikel was being strangled, he elbowed Pagan's fathers hands and sliced them off.
Huffing and puffing, Mikel said to him "Pretty strong but not strong enough"

"Seriously? You are going to start adding 'Nyaa' at the end of whatever you say like this is some anime?" Rand said to the cat. If cats could bristle indignantly, that is what she did.
"That was just a joke you thick headed Ape. It is a wonder you humans think you are the most advanced beings in the world, especially the men." The cat said sourly. Great, just what he needed as a companion. An arrogant cat that looked down on humans and more so on males. He did not know what this familiar business was, but clearly he was going to be stuck with her for a long while... So he was going to have to get used to her.
"Lilith, that is your name right?" Rand paused, he did not know how he knew but somehow the name was seared into his brain. "I appreciate the help, but where exactly did you and Eve's new friend come from?"
"From the underworld naturally" Lilith said in a matter-of-fact tone. "We were part of the contract you formed with the Reapers when they offered you the deal. You should have read the fine print"

Her own familiar, too, was quite a character. Eve wouldn't have been surprised if the raven had been sporting small, round "spectacles" and maybe a tie. If he were human, Saphier probably could've passed as a professor or a doctor or something. Heck, he was probably smart anyhow.
Something clicked within her head. Saphier did remind her of someone! The librarian at her old school. Mr...Grant? Something along those lines. They had almost the exact same voice... same attitude, too. Mr.Grant was an elderly, slim, spectacled man, but he had the spirit of a youngster. He was always reading when he wasn't adjusting his poorly fit glasses. He was a nice man, always ready to engage in a meaningful conversation. He gave good advice, too. If her familiar and her librarian were anything alike, Eve knew that she'd get along well with her familiar.
Smiling slightly, she addressed Rand. "Looks like I might actually be able to get used to being a Reaper."

"Nothing personal, Father..." Her Irish accent thickens as she becomes more angry, "Just the way life is."
Her scythe began to glow a bright white and she raises it high over her head, swinging her scythe across his throat as a white light swirls around them. Sudden darkness sweeps over as her father's body slumps, the screeching sound of the soul tearing from his body bounced off towards the sky and his spirit dropped before Pagan.
Pagan lets out a chuckle, snapping her fingers and suddenly her father's spirit was sucked into a dark vortex and sent straight to Hell's Gates.
She turns as Talia appears next to her, her fur billowing in the aftershock wind.
You have done the right thing. Talia says, her electric blue eyes brought Pagan back to a calmer state.
Pagan rests her hand on Talia's back and stands for a moment, not saying a word.

"I don't suppose we are able to trade familiars?" Rand said and received another indignant look from Lilith. "What I am not allowed to make jokes too?"
"Oh you can" Lilith said with a low growl in the back of her throat. "But just know that I have a long.... long memory and have nothing better to do but get back at you"
Rand wondered when Mikel would show up again. The test was done, but Rand did not know how to return to the mortal world, where he assumed they would be stationed and called upon whenever a soul broke loose.
