Gerry is a tough chick, if leather and tattoos are her armour, she dresses like every day is a war zone. Her hair alone tells you she never got along with her dear old grandma Maude. Add to that the only two facial expressions she knows, the scowl or antagonistic smirk, and you quickly realise that Gerry is not the snuggly type. Her confidence and edgy look is attractive to some but off-putting to many more.

-- EMPATHY: Gerry has the ability of empathy. She can
sense all surface, active emotions from anyone she shares
a room with, but can struggle pairing up emotions with
people. Though with one touch, she intimately knows the
deep running feelings and emotions of another's heart.
-- TOUCHING: Gerry is either completely standoffish,
reluctant to touch in order to avoid setting off her empathy.
Or she's a little too touchy because she wants to know your
emotions. It generally depends on her mood, and who it is;
whether it's an emotion she wants invading her space.

-- EMPATHY: Gerry's empathy makes her virtually
impossible to surprise or betray. She can sense a straying
heart with just a touch, and the dark of you heart will always
give away your cruelty. It also allows her to better understand
people and the reasons and feelings behind their actions.
-- TOUGH: Gerry's though. Or at least she knows
how to appear tough. She can put on the armour of a tough
chick and seem hard to rattle and really hurt.
-- TEA LEAVES: Take this one with a grain of salt.
Gerry claims to have the talent but she just spent one lazy
afternoon surfing the internet of the skill. She's gotten
maybe one tea leaf prophecy definitively correct.

-- BEING JUDGED: Whilst a big fan of judging others,
Gerry fears having her own actions be put under the
microscope. She knows she's had to make some morally
grey choices, and believes that people might not like what
they find if she gives them the chance to look.
-- LONELINESS: The way she acts may not seem it, but
Gerry is terrified that her attitude and disposition will
catch up to her one day and she'll end up driving everyone
away. Left to spend her days alone. It's why she is often
up for keeping people company, even if they're just
running errands.

-- EMPATHY: Gerry knows objectively her empathy is a gift,
but it can often feel like a curse. She's discovered the hard
way they there is a big, fat grey area when it comes to her
gift. She understands that people have a right to have their
emotions keep private, but when is she morally obliged to
reveal them?
-- SCHOLARLY: Gerry is by no means scholarly. She never did
well at school, maths, essays and exams where not things
she ever became comfortable with. Though she was too busy
smoking behind the old home ec buildings or hooking up with
other students to care anyway.
-- MEAN: Gerry can come across rather mean. It can drive
people away and definitely limits the places that Gerry feels
welcomed.
Gerry has always described her ability as being able to see peopleâs hearts. The absolute truth of their hearts, no bullshit facades or lies. This means that she is gifted with an intimate knowledge of people after just a simple touch. And as such, Gerry sees herself as the one true judge of people. She can judge people by their hearts rather than being waylaid by fancy words or false actions. Which means she thinks that judging people is her birth right. She is mighty quick to jump on peopleâs lies and inconsistencies and canât help herself from nit picking. Every action, word and feeling passed by Gerry is weighed and measured by her.
However whilst she is perfectly happy judging others, she refuses to judge herself by the same standards. In fact she refuses to judge herself by any standards. Instead she prances around with a confident persona and avoids internal introspection at all costs. Gerryâs ability to feel peopleâs emotions have put her in a lot of morally grey areas where sheâd had to make a lot of decisions. Decisions she has no interest in digging up and assessing. Thus she refuses to reflect on herself and her actions for fear of what she might discover about herself.
Gerryâs refusal to have the microscope turned back on her can, quite frankly, make her an abrupt bitch. Her abilities allow her to reveal hidden feelings and unearth insecurities as a form of attack. She can be mean and antagonistic even to her closest friends. Itâs her natural defence mechanism, like a cornered beast she lashes out first to avoid getting hurt. Which often makes her seem rude and hard. Gerry is cagey about her past and herself, and often deliberately puts people off to avoid the topic all together. However if anyone were to look hard, theyâd see that sheâs just a scared and vulnerable girl under her tough persona.
There was never some big realisation or understanding. Gerry's empathy has always just been an oddity of her life, accepted by her parents as just something about her. Though it made growing up a bit of a moral minefield. She understands objectively that people's feelings and emotions are their own, and that they should be afford some privacy and secrecy. But growing up she never found it that black and white. Her father's relentless and suffocating guilt over his affair, that she shared to her mother. Despite the smiles and dates, her mother's cloud of depression hung heavily over the entire apartment.
Gerry quickly learn how much easier things would be if she could just, un-know. Believe the falseness.
But her empathy was here to stay. Imagine it. She found herself unable to forgive friends after fights because you can forget words and actions far easier than you can forget the feeling of someone's pure rage. The first person she slept with, she could feel their boredom. It's easy to see why in this position one might grow angry, and hard and defensive. When you not only see the worst in people, but have it shoved down your throat that tends to happen.
So Gerry became a bit of a drifter, until she stumbled upon Delancey House, a place to fit in. A place where understood what it was like to know things you shouldn't and do things others can't. Believe it or not, Gerry's actually become softer since arriving three years ago.
