Personality:
Sungjae is quiet during school, not liking to bring much attention to himself. He focuses on doing what needs to be done and hates being bothered while he's working, whether it be his homework, job, or photography. He has a strong hatred for any of the "populars" - meaning jocks and cheerleaders mostly. He puts up a strong front at school, pretending like his constant bullying doesn't bother him in the least; however, that is far from true. He is greatly affected by the bullying and has contemplated suicide multiple times, but had been talked out of it by Arrow each time.
He finds comfort in his photography, seeing it as a way to express himself. He doesn't really like taking pictures of the sports teams all that much, but will do it since he knows that he's really the only photographer in the yearbook committee that is able to get the perfect shots. He doesn't have a big head about his work, honestly thinking that it pales in comparison to many others, but most of the people on the yearbook committee are just there to hang out with friends and put their friends and all of the "populars" on all of the group pages, making sure that none of the nerds, geeks or losers get put on those pages. They never give credit to Sungjae for his work, saying that it was the work of Mark - a jock who was just there for the easy A of the class. Sungjae highly dislikes this fact, but knows that the teachers will take Mark's side so he never fights against it.
History:
Sungjae moved from Seoul, South Korea to Seattle for his father's work when he was in eighth grade. He knew English very well, but people would always assume that he didn't since he had just moved. He got into the habit of not bringing attention to himself and staying in the background as soon as he started to get bullied towards the middle of the school year. Everyone made fun of him for being different, mocking him because of his slight accent that became more pronounced when he was really scared, nervous, or happy. When the students found out that he was homosexual, the bullying became steadily worse. He learned how to avoid them.
Sungjae then met his first friend, Arrow James, when he was hiding in a supply closet in the art room. She helped calm him down, talking him out of suicide when he let it slip that he was thinking about it. He's had three more suicide scares over the next three years and each time, she has talked him out of it. He then met his second friend, Fred as she likes to be called, in his first year of high school. After a year of bullying, Sungjae was put on anti-depressants and signed up for counseling. His counselor suggested that he take something up that would allow him to express himself and let out all of his anger and frustrations. So he took up photography, instantly falling in love with it. He took pictures of almost everything whenever he saw something that would make a perfect picture.
In the middle of his sophomore year of high school, Julio and his friends caught him one day for a bullying session. They tore his camera out of his hands, as he hand just been taking pictures, and threw it against the wall of the school building. Sungjae froze and went blank when his camera fell to the ground in pieces. That night was the night of his third suicide attempt, figuring that if someone wanted to hurt him so bad to go so far as to break his camera, then they must really hate him and he must be useless and unneeded. He was a silent mass going through the motions of the days for the next few weeks, his hatred for the "populars" growing. His parents bought him a new camera to replace his now broken one and he has been sure to not let his bullies get his camera again.
