Behind Wall Maria, and inside the Shiganshina District, is where the next attack was planned. Titans have already gone through the first wall and into the district known from long ago for its first attack from the Titans. How the wall opened, that's the mystery, but that mystery is one having to be saved for later because at the moment, the Shiganshina people have been evacuated to Wall Rose, praying that the Titans will not reach the next wall and kill everyone else, just like the others who were left behind.

But thats where our heroes come in.

Currently, all soldiers are gathering in their barracks, inside of the Shiganshina District, where most the Titans are located, getting ready for battle with their partners at their side.

Seto began to ready his tanks at both his sides, filling them up with gas. While he often stayed in his weapon form, being the secondary weapon to his partner and childhood friend, Lyra, if anything happened suddenly and unexpectedly, he'd have to be ready to jump back into a regular physical state and get on the move to keep him and his partner from dying. Yeah, that was a thought he wasn't fond of.

There was a thundering noise outside and the barracks shifted a bit, subtle pieces of rock and dust leaking in from the ceiling on top of them. Various of the younger soldiers around his age began to cry and shake and yell, 'Of course they're afraid...' Seto thought while taking one of the large tanks of gas and attempting to attach it to his own with difficulty, 'We were all once like that too.' He paused in his struggling, then looked up and stared at two different types of people; the ones who showed fear, and others who's faces were stone cold, 'But the rest of us already shed enough tears and yelled enough from the top of our lungs when we saw those monsters the first time too. He went back to hooking up the tanks.

Just then, a flashback hit him in the head.

~~~
'Go and get me food.' He remembered a woman saying to him. Who was the woman, he couldn't remember, or perhaps, he chose not to remember. She grabbed tighter at little Seto's collar of his ragged and dusty clothes, 'Get me food. Now.'
'M-Mom...' Seto gulped as she reached for his neck. Right... yes, that's right. That was his mother. His first, actually, and cruelly insane mother, 'We're poor... we... we can't afford food...' He said timidly and the hand got a tight grip around his neck now, and he began to choke.
'Does it look like I fucking care? You brat! Go and get me my food, damn it!' His mother yelled. People passed by the torn family on the streets, but said nothing. They were just rats looking for leftovers dropped for them on the ground. Even the child, Seto, mattered not to the men and women and children who glanced at them with selfish eyes. His mother let go of his neck, shoving him backwards and sitting up from the sheets of cloth that was supposed to be a bed, 'You're useless.' She muttered and began to get up.
'M-Mom don't!' Seto approached his mom, despite being choked. Was it out of love? No. It was out of fear of the woman, 'You're going to hurt yourself, let me go and get it then-' Seto stood to steal something- anything that was edible for his sick and dying mother. He knew she was dying, yet the fear of that abuse he experienced from her lingered over him to do whatever she asked, even on her deathbed.
Once more, his mother grabbed him, this time by the hair, and pulled his ear close to her mouth as she whispered in his ear, 'I hope they kill you.'
~~~

There was a snap back to reality and Seto gasped for air as he had a hard time breathing for the moment the flashback played in his mind. He put his hand gently and stroked his neck gently, remembering that pain, "Titans are probably better than that..." He muttered agitatedly and finally began to take the gas into his 3D Maneuver Gear. He told himself that Titans were better than his mother, but what he was really focused on was worrying that- what if that happened during battle? What if, for some reason, he was using his gear with Lyra in her weapon form, and he'd experience a flashback. The both of them would be eaten and killed without doubt.

He sighed, trying to forget about this thought and looked around the barracks filled with other soldiers getting ready to face the war head on, and searched for one familiar face; his partner, "Lyra!" He called, seeing how he couldn't move. The battle would start soon, and he wanted to be ready early.

Maya Poveda stood in the back of the room, eyeing every single human and weapon in sight with eyes that said nothing about her intentions, thoughts, of emotions. She simply sat there, getting her gas for the war just outside that building, and watched everyone, studying how they reacted when they were called upon, from the Military Police, Survey Corps, and Garrison, to fight Titans for the first time. They had all had their share of hearing the stories of these giant humanoid creatures that ate nothing but humans. Of course, these were all stories as they grew up. Yes... just stories, nothing else.

Until now.

Maya began to glare and frown at those who wore the Military Police badge and scowled a bit, making a face of disgust. She turned away, then realize what ugly expression she was making and calmed herself down to her normal and focused look. The thought occurred to her suddenly, and she tried to shoot it out of her mind before anyone could take a guess and ask what was wrong. No... it wasn't a thought. It was a memory.

~~~
She was there and watched them trampled people under their feet unknowingly and destroy buildings without paying any attention to the damage they were doing. A seven year old Maya, staring down at the Titans killing people from her district left and right, was standing on top of Wall Rose with the other few survivors who had somehow managed to escape. She didn't feel sad knowing that her parents were somewhere down there, nor that all those people were dying. She didn't feel anything. She just watched with wide eyes. However, while there was no sadness, or pity, there was horror in her eyes when she watched.
There was a couple, husband and wife, standing behind her and crying over the strangers that were dying beneath them while they stayed safe. Maya approached them at that time, short and little Maya, and looked at them, the same eyes watching their crying faces, 'What's there to cry about?' She asked horribly, 'They're bad people. They really are, if you understood what they did and how they acted and what they thought of the rest of us. There's nothing to cry about.' She said and the couple cried even harder.
It was true though. Maya hadn't quite seen the worse of the Titans, but had seen the worst of humans, and it had scarred her ever since.
~~~

Maya let out a deep sigh and hung her head back, "They're bad people..." She very quietly repeated to herself and wiped the sweat from her forehead as she got back to changing her gas tanks. There was a banging and people of all ages in the building shrieked. Hell, she even heard the ones from all the way across the room, "They're all so loud..." Maya murmured with pity for them and continued focusing, also wondering at the same time, 'Where's that Leonardo Adams... We're going to be let free of this damn building and I'll be at a lost towards what to do if I'm the only one without my partner...' Again, she sighed and let her head hang boorishly.

There it was; the first Titan Chihiro had ever seen in her whole entire life. She saw her mother scream and run away, not even knowing that her child's legs were trapped underneath the house. Her father... her father... who the hell knew where he was. He was working, last time she heard. His work was somewhere else in her district, and he was gone ever since the Titan raid started those years back. He was probably among those already leaving for the next world too, and Hiro saw her mother get slammed to the side like a speck of dust and whatever was left of her, was left on the bloodied side of a destroyed house, just like the one Hiro was trapped under.

Hiro began to cry tears and wanted to move. She wanted to get to her mother, even though she knew the unfortunate fact that her mother was already joining the dead along with her father. She was now desperate to get free, and the pain from her crushed feet didn't come to her until after she began to yell and cry at 10 years of age. Hiro prayed for her freedom and for a better world after she died in the next few seconds. She prayed she could get away from the hellish nightmare she lived in.

Except a different miracle worked its way towards her.

Something soared overhead. What that was was a person. Something with 3DDMG on. A soldier.

They flew over her head, over the Titan's head, like birds. One of them swooped down, one whose's face she couldn't remember, and cut out the back of the Titan's neck with little energy needed to be used. The same soldier, a man, quickly came down to her and she remembered hearing the apology in her ear, 'Sorry.'

Then she was cut free.

It was a short minute to the safety of the other wall, but that minute felt like hours when Hiro dealt with the pain of the bleeding from both her calves, no longer having any feet. There was a moment of blackness, and that was when-

~~~
That was when Hiro finally woke up. It was a time when they had to get ready to face the Titans. Hiro wasn't bothered though. That was the reason to why she was taking a quick nap just a moment ago. People were crying when she woke up and looked at their tear-stained faces. She didn't seem to know the feeling ever since seven years ago, and while it still lasted inside of her, she didn't quite relate to what they were crying about. Hiro grinned her usual grin and said loudly, as always, "Oh come on, cheer up! This mood is boring! Come on, lets lift those spirits, shouldn't we? Oh, we should sing a song! Yes, that's great-"
Someone shouted at her to shut up, one of the older and superiors and Hiro slouched grumpily while murmuring, "Everyone's in such a bad mood... That's no fun... Ah, I know someone who could entertain me though-" She took a breath and began to yell at the top of her lungs while grinning, "Earl! Where are you! Are you playing hide-and-go-seek?"
Tears give you a reason to fight
'Don't panic. Don't panic. This is why you joined the Survey Corps. Stop acting like a scared little girl.'
Scar blew her dull red bangs out of her eyes and stared right at all the other soldiers. Some of them were still quite young and others were around her own age. Some were screaming and panicking while running around in circles while others were saying their "final" prays. This is it. Now they were required to fight back to where it all started....and Scar couldn't tell if she was nervous out of her mind or hiding her nervousness behind her strong façade.
Either way, Scar wasn't about to run around, screaming nonsense like a little kid.
So there the red headed woman was, leaning up against a rough wall of the barrack, her arms crossed over her chest and a scowl placed along her face. Her uniform was on like many others... with the Survey Corps symbol on the back of her coat. Her maneuver gear placed heavily around her hips, the tanks already filled up with gas and ready to go. Her long hair was pulled back from her face into a high ponytail while her bangs still tried to push her buttons by getting into her eyes.
'I-Is everyone's tanks filled up? We're getting ready to head out soon..." One young man said out loud to no one in particular as he looked around and different peoples faces, receiving yes's and maybe-I-should-do-that-now's. His eyes landed on Scar as she still stood in the corner alone. She looked back at him, giving him the 'Do-You-Think-I'm-Stupid?' look before slightly nodding her head and looking away. She knew to quickly fill her tanks up once everyone got to the barrack, seeing as she did not want to be stuck in a gong show with everyone trying to hurriedly get their tanks filled up. So she had quickly switched her tanks and put gas in them and checked over her gear before walking off into the corner...
With the loud noises from outside and the slight shift of the barrack, people only seemed to panic more. Scar just stood in her spot, waiting to be called up and ready to go out. Of course, she didn't want to go fight and kill Titans. Who would? But she knew she had to. That is why she joined this whole mess. She couldn't say that she regretted it because it was her choice. But by all means, she'd rather be at home right now drinking a nice cup of warm tea.
"Okay people! Let's go! Let's go!" A mans rasp voice yelled out over the crowd of people, and soon everyone was beginning to crowd over by the opening doors. Scar sighed before unfolded her crossed arms and letting them falls to her sides and walking over to the crowd of people.
"Don't you think playing the hero role would be life changing?"
"No, stop it, Scar. Stop thinking about this." Scar though as she stepped closer into the crowd, but her faint memories were coming back to her.
"Don't we have enough people risking their lives everyday for us, dad? Don't you think that's enough people? I don't want to be a hero! I want to be the change! The young Scar screamed out to her father. Young and dumb. She sat at the kitchen table while her father watched her carefully from across her.
"Yes, but...Before being the change, you must get out there. I want you to grow up and do something strong for humanity someday, Scarlett." Her father said as he got up and left the table, letting Scar to sit there and take in what he had just said. She huffed, her stubbornness getting in her way of reality and the right decision. She blew her bangs up and stomped away from the table.
Scar was snapped back into reality as somebody bumped into her shoulder. "Would you watch it, please?"
Scar asked coldly, the scowl deepening on her face. She looked over to see a blonde girl, probably about Scar's age, but a lot smaller in size. "O-Oh...I'm sorry..." The girl apologized quickly before walking ahead of Scar, into the crowd of people. She had looked terrified... faint tears streaming down her cheeks....
"Ugh! I can't find my partner! Aleena! Where are you?!" A woman called out as she passed Scar. 'Partner' Scar thought, as she suddenly remembered about hers. Daydreaming can take you away from reality...and can screw up your memory and thoughts.
"Nori." She whispered. Damn. How was she supposed to find the guy with all these people practically running over her? She quickly began pushing her way through the crowd, looking for her partner and friend. She wasn't much for waiting and patience...and she knew she had to find him fast...
Sam sat atop the roof of the barracks where the younger children wearing soldiers armour waited for death, or as close to it there was in their minds. The Titans were approaching at their usual pace, some swaying off track as the caught a movement, decided to scavenge through a ruin in hopes of finding a lost human morsel. It was funny, no matter how many times she saw them, Sam could never draw that paralysing fear that others experienced when they lay their eyes upon the man eating giants. Sure, there were things that could still make her freeze, a battle hardened, psychopathic soldier, freeze in her tracks and beg for mercy, but those giants weren't one of them.
Now there's a thought, the titans almost reminded her of the story 'jack and the beanstalk'... Maybe that's why she always thought of them as giants and not titans.
"I wonder where the beanstalk is...", she trailed off quietly to herself.
It would be interesting, watching theses newbies fight for their lives, seeing as most of them had already given up if the screaming and crying was anything to go by. Coming to think of it, there's not real surprise that the titans are coming this way with so much noise going on.
Breathing a small sigh, she leap off the ledge she was sat upon and landed with a full thud against the compact dirt, the door that protected the barracks behind her. Light spilled out from beneath the door as well as the noise of the new recruits. Sam sometimes forgot that most of those recruits were still in there teenage years, the time when their biggest concern should be their hormones. But it was easy to forget seeing as she had never had that time and therefore didn't know what it was like to be completely carefree.
Glancing once more at the approaching Titans, she entered the barracks, giving all it's occupants a once over. Some looked able while others looked a mess... And she didn't want any of those idiots on the battle field while those capable tried to do their job. Growling as a particularly loud cry came from a girl, followed by the shaking of the barracks, she kicked over a barrel of DDMG blades, which loudly clattered to the floor and drew the attention of the barracks occupants.
Glaring, Sam spoke straight at the snivelling girl, who stared back wide eyes. "Would ya shut up! Snivelling and crying ain't gonna help you when your out there killing titans. Actually, if you are currently snivelling that probably means you will be one of the first dead. Take my advice love, stop crying to ya mama Ta save ya and start sharpening your blades, because it ain't ya mama or ya god that will save ya out there when facing off one of those grinning giants, it'll be the weapon you hold in your hand." and with that, Sam turned around and took a seat, legs crossed and head leaned back as her eyes closed, feeling the gentle vibrations from the distant footsteps of the giants. They would be here soon, people needed to start partnering up... Speaking of partnering up...
"Garen, where are ya?", she muttered quietly to herself, eyes still closed and breath stilled as she began to count the number of vibrations that made their way through the barracks, the number of footsteps the titans were closer to their location.
Garen recalled when he first felt this trembling, back before he knew how to handle a Titan. The chill that went up his spine as each step vibrated the entire area around it, causing things to fall off shelves and break on the ground. Way back when, when he was so defenseless, this terrified him and he was glued to the spot he was standing. He was always so lucky to have someone watch his back in the past, it had saved him time and time again. He would not be here today if he hadn't someone to watch over him long ago.
But it wouldn't be the same now.
More or less, relying on his allies would be a mistake. It was not that he was some lone-wolf kind of person, but he knew that depending solely on someone else's skills to keep yourself alive was a flaw that would find you in a Titan's stomach before too long. And since he had more than enough experience dealing with these things, well, he would probably not need to worry about himself, so long as he kept a cool head and didn't do anything rash, which he did not see himself doing in the first place. Basically, he was confident that his skills that had gotten him to the top of his own class were enough so that he could keep himself alive unless the numbers became so overwhelming that everybody else died. This was most certainly a plausible result when dealing with the Titans, but it was a certainty, so he felt confident of his chances of survival.
*CRASH*
...Or maybe he would have felt confident about surviving if a certain.... lets say 'variable' did not come into play when it came to his partner. Bluntly put, his partner was fucking crazy. And she wasn't a nice kind of a crazy either. From the yelling he heard inside of the barracks from his position against the wall outside of said barracks, he could hear each and every syllable as the woman ranted on towards whomever had caught her attention. If he used his super-detective skills and tried to figure out what had happened, he could deduce that perhaps someone was a bit terrified of the oncoming horde of Titans, and that had set Sam off. While Garen might not have the kindest opinion of people who were still visibly terrified at this stage of the game, he wasn't likely to go off on them like Sam was, unless they were perhaps in the middle of fighting Titans and it threatened to cause harm to someone's life. But.... oh well. In all honesty, this crazy woman did share some traits with a certain deceased girlfriend, so it wasn't like Garen particularly disliked her. Just....
Sometimes you weren't sure if she was going to snap. Meh.
Garen took the moment of silence that followed to step into the barracks. Upon glancing around, he noticed some of the blades for the 3DMG laying on the ground, presumably the cause of the crash he had heard earlier. Among that was also the form of a woman who was no longer crying, but simply just... queit. And then finally was his partner, kicking back and relaxing almost as though nothing had happened.
Just another day.
"We're not even out fighting Titans yet." Garen remarked as he took his seat across from Sam, his eyes on her, of course. "You know, it's not healthy for a young woman to get angry all the time. It'd do wonders for your skin, so I've heard. And that'd do wonders for you love life! I mean, right now, I think the only guys that want to eat you are those big guys outside." he continued. "Although I'm not entirely sure on your tastes, I'd think that rather unpreferable to most, no?"
In hindsight, Garen realized he might be just as excited as her to go kill something. Judging on the increasingly violent vibrations, they wouldn't have to wait too long.
Cass sat motionless outside the barracks next to the gas tanks. Her chestnut hair was loosely tied in her usual two shoulder length braids. The gas-cans hugging her maneuver gear were long since filled, but she couldn't find the strength to pull herself from the ground. Others came and went, emotions in their eyes ranging from horror to ignorant excitement to utter disbelief as they filled their 3DDMG with the gas almost necessary for survival. Cass had sat down to regain her usual calm behavior, hoping that the morning sun and clean air would help her heart rate regain normal patterns, but it didn't help. Her sunflower eyes opened to view a deep blue sky with wisps of cloud mingled in, it calmed her slightly.She observed her surroundings. The second she did so an acute tightness in her stomach made it's presence known. All around her were soldiers, her fellow soldiers, bustling around with the same nervous mentality as was to be expected. Some were pacing, others crying and a select few had no emotion whatsoever. Just blank faces among a sea of moans and whimpers. just to think.. The newly appointed soldier's eyes drifted beyond the crowd of frantic humans The cause of all this mess are within this wall digging for life...how far can they possibly b- Her thoughts stopped dead. Past the barracks and homes and markets that once belonged to people now trampled, eaten or relocated like herself, was a massive bare form swaying with huge lumbering steps. Cass strained her eyes and sucked in a sharp breath. God..they're close. At that moment she snapped to conscience and felt sick. She dug her nails into the dust at her sides, barely gripping reality What would Carston say?Memories of her brother flashed before her eyes.
~
Cass saw herself laying in a patch of grass and wildflowers. Wall Rose towered over not feet from where she lay. The warm breeze and sun kissing her skin seemed almost real. A figure with brown hair and chocolate eyes lay next to her in old working pants and a torn gray shirt, observing the clouds. He was taller by comparison but the pairs faces were nearly identical to one another. A brother and sister alone outside the walls confining them. “Hey Carston?” she spoke softly after many quiet minutes. “Hmm?” he replied in a lazy tone. “Why are you joining the trainees? I mean.. I know why but, why do you have to leave?” The brother sat up, giving his younger sister full attention. His eyes had a sudden seriousness to them that Cass could never forget. “Do you see this wall Cass?” he pointed up to the second of three walls protecting every known human being “We are the only ones left. And that's how it's going to stay unless we work as a unit, instead of single people. I can't stand here and decide that my problems come before anyone else and neither should you.” Cass sat intently listening to every passionate word that fell from her brother's lips. “ I really want well.. my life to mean something, like one less titan or even a saved life. So to answer that question, to mean something Cassidy. I want to change this prison we were born into for the better.”
Those words held place in Cass and echoed in her mind long after that day. The last thing she saw of her brother was his hand in a crowd off people boarding a ferry waving her a final goodbye. The next day she was shaken awake by her adopted mother for the news. Titans have broken the wall.
~
Cass heaved herself up on wobbly legs sore from sitting since the sun rose. She brushed the dirt off her pants. The thought of her brother gave new life and her fear melted away.I won't die here, not today. And especially not without Carston at my side. Other soldiers were gathering in an unorganized mass and she slipped between them. Her partner had to be around somewhere. Silvester was his name, but she didn't know much else about her handler. Throughout training he was quiet and focused on his fighting, but so was Cass. She could say that she liked him as a partner, he seemed adjusted enough but always a little too distant. Sometimes she had to yell to get his attention. Cass searched the clearing. She was nearly deafened by the number of people screaming their partners names. How can a pair that has trained for months on end still not know how to find one another? I guess I'm one to talk. Cass thought to herself. She weaved through the crowd and noticed something. Freezing where she stood and leaning down, she noticed it again. A vibration, like a boulder was being hurled off the wall and crushing the earth below it. It came again, and again each time sending a shiver up Cass's spine. “Tho- those are...footsteps?” someone close to her practically shrieked. “Yeah” Cass mumbled bluntly. She turned and started trotting to the barracks, hoping to find her missing counterpart there. Her trot broke into a nervous run and for whatever reason she looked over shoulder to see the crowd. Just as she did so a force threw her balance and brought her to the ground in a plume of dust. Regaining consciousness, Cass's eyes flew open and there standing before her was a female figure with ebony black hair and piercing eyes. The look on her face was of both surprise and annoyance. Cass stood and said a quick halfassed “Sorry about that” and continued with her mission. The girl had seemed familiar Lyra, I think . She simply stared as Cass ran away from the scene without a single measly word. Then it came to her and Cass was suddenly overcome with embarrassment for not knowing How could I forget, that Lyra, she ranked #2 in training.. The barrack door flew open and Cass walked in as casually as possibly, searching for any familiar faces. She noticed some from training, but not Silvester. She searched unkempt beds and crowded halls, but to no avail. All the while the vibrations got louder and shook more and more dust from the rafters. Cass felt a sinking feeling that if she didn't find him soon she would have to go alone. “Dammit Silver, where are you?!”she yelled internally.
Time: 8 years ago
Pain.
Earl kept his legs moving as fast as possible- he could hear the hounds pounding at the ground right after them, their howls reaching the heavens as they slowly gained on him. No, no- His left foot tripped on a branch, causing Earl to tumble and fall to the ground. No- Eyes widening with fear, Earl tried to move faster as he scrambled up from where he had fallen. Whipping his hair back, he could see that the hounds were but a few meters behind him. “All this for a piece of meat!” The young boy of but 13 wailed, tears streaming down his face as he started off again as fast as possible. But it was no use. His shoes peeled off of his heels, torn and tattered; his shirt flew in the breeze, filthy and torn, showing the pale white skin Earl had underneath. He was starving- the running made him even more hungry, as sounds of starvation rumbled forth from his stomach as his mouth panted, cold shimmering clouds of vapor leaving his mouth every time.
This had been his life for the past few weeks; running, ducking, crying, it was not much different from what he had been doing in the orphanage. Quick, here. Earl ducked and ran down a small alley as a pungent smell wafted from the walls that lined the tiny street, wide enough to fit but one child inside. But the dogs followed, their barking echoing throughout the empty streets. A fence faced him, taller than a man- but there were holdings that humans could hold onto- not made for dogs. As quickly as possible, Earl climbed over the fence, doubling over in pain when he scratched his leg against the wall- but he couldn’t stop. The meat parcel first went over, hitting the ground in a dull thump, then did Earl, his light scrambling causing eyes to appear in the windows that lined the walls of the alley, judging him coldly as he finally toppled over the fence, the hounds growling and biting at his heels as they stopped on the other side. Yes! Without a second thought, he immediately turned and ran away again. Though his legs were tired, Earl could not stop- he had to ensure his victory. His success. He could not stop to celebrate- he wanted to reach new heights.
“I pronounce Earl Godfrey forever banished from the lands of Karanese District, and forever reside in the boundaries between our land and even outside of Wall Maria.” He had left with no regrets, but with thin clothing on his back and many bruises that lined his face and body. And then, from there, he had joined the mountain bandits- they had treated Earl like dirt, though he had experienced many more hardships than them. He had slowly killed them off one by one, tired of the constant rowdy companionship that he had once relied on as friends and company. With them, Earl had spied his first titan, and with them, Earl had bloodied his hands. But it did not matter- he stayed alive and managed to some how smuggle himself into the barriers of Wall Rose when the colossal titan had attacked.
Finally.
Earl had dropped his knife, his hands red with the blood of the last mountain bandit member. From where he stood, now, on a small hill in the Shiganshina district, everything was as clear as day. The sudden standstill as the Titan’s head appeared above the walls- the sudden kick and flying debris that flew away due to his colossal kick, breaching the wall. With the colossal Titan, the other smaller Titans followed- and then the scramble into Wall Maria started, as people screamed to get away from the jaws of the Titans. Earl had been lucky- he had been one of the first to return into Wall Maria, though he had been exiled a few years ago. It did not matter; everyone was scrambling away from the Titans- the guards could not do anything to an ex-convict, much less one that had changed in many ways than one. It surprised him, even further; that no one felt perturbed by the constant smile he had had on his face, unable to change the expression to one more somber. They had let him pass; they minded him in no way probable.
And then he had enrolled into the military, becoming a prospective trainee to enter into corps to either kill Titans or keep other humans away from the inner walls. He had been an excellent student; no one could have guessed his lack of care towards others and the world itself. And now, after but a few years, his prowess was to be put to the test against actual Titans. He could not wait- but he would have to. Earl was not one to rush into his needs or to push his luck too far. It would not be in his favor if others found out about his unstable mental state.
Noisy. Earl’s eyes flickered towards the bright blue hair of his partner standing but a few steps in front of him. His own hair was as eye-catching, a pale white amongst a throng of colorful hair colors, pronouncing him as ‘different’. It didn’t matter much. Earl leaned back against the wall that stood right behind him, the solid stonewall cold against his back. Earl knew, however, that Hiro would probably chew him out later if he did not come up any time soon, especially with time running out so fast. He sighed and ruffled his hair, the bags under his two eyes pronounced and dark, hinting already at the extremely bad mood Earl was in as he took a few steps forward and then turned so that he stood right in front of Hiro. The frown on his face grew larger when he took his partner in with a one glance over. “You called?” He drawled out, as he pulled a knife from his belt and flicked it into the air and then caught it when it felt back down in a twirling trajectory.
But before the other could answer, screams burst into the air. The air in the barracks tensed as a senior member of the scouting legion walked into the barracks and sat at the large table at the front of the room that all the trainees were now standing in. He opened his mouth, but he already had his eyes fixed on a few occupants of the room. It was obvious that this man knew whom he wanted to talk to- and what they looked like. "I want those whom ranked top 20 in the 147th legion of the trainee class to stand forth along with their partners. We will need you immediately at the front line." Without a second word, he got up again and left the room- it was an obvious sign for the ones who fit the criteria to move out of the room as well. "Keh." Earl spat, shaking his head as he stuffed his hands into his pockets. "Come on, useless." He said over his shoulder to Hiro before walking off himself, as he stuffed his twitching hands into his pockets.
Finally.
Sam opened one eye when she felt someone sit down across from her, grinning lazily at his comments before righting herself and giving him her full attention. "Oh there ya are, I was wonderin what ya been up ya.", She (not so subtly) gave him the once over and smiled coyly at him and moving over so that she brushed up ever so lightly against him, her lips resting against his ear as she whispered softly.
"So Garen,", her voice became slightly huskier as she said his name and a shiver passed through her body, "Remind me why you are so concerned about my love life? Maybe you're right, we should fix it.", she paused for a moment, before blowing ever so slightly against his ear and running her hands up his leg suggestively.
The next second she had pulled back and was leaning back against the wall in the same position she had been when he had first arrived though this time her eyes were open and filled with amusement. "Thanks for the suggestion baby cakes but I don't think I need no help, I can be pretty... Persuasive when I want to be.". She laughed, her whole being completely relaxed despite the situation. "Not that I would really want to be, considering most of these guys are to pussy to even hold a gun properly, let alone use a grenade correctly.", a brief flash of annoyance passing through her eyes and she looked round the room.
The atmospher in the room thickened and Sam glanced round to see that the 'Carl', who she had just baptised for whatever reason, was standing and ordering her and Garen, as well as others she would later dub like she did 'Carl'. Moving to get off the wall, she gave Garen one last teasing smile with a wink as she made her way to follow 'Carl', knowing that Garen would not eh far behind.
For the second time that day, Sam exited the barrack into the sunlight, blinking as she was temporality blinded before locking onto the figures in the distance that had gotten closer since she had been inside. For a brief second she could feel her eyes glaze off as she stared into the distance, an almost nostalgic smile taking over her face for a few brief seconds before it vanished and was replaced by her inner soldier.
Eyes hardened and her face turned stoic, turning round she met eyes with Garen, silently asking which he would prefer. To turn first or for her to turn first. It was common knowledge that 'titans' could only be killed one way, but Sam has disproved that when she had first been eaten and had set off a grenade in one of the suckers stomachs, blowing him to bits. Guns could also be used against the titan but they required more precision as they needed to enter the neck and cut through the nerve which was considered the titans major weak point.
Garen's broad sword would be more effective in taking out the titans weak point but it require lots of strength and time to get in a good swing, not something they had on the battle field. However, they had survived this once and there was no way in hell she was going to let them go down now.
“You called?”
Hiro found that, not very much later, her partner was already standing in front of her. Within a split second, Hiro took in the expression of his face, studying him within the blink of an eye, as she did when fighting the titans. After all, studying was her hobby, "Oh, looks like you're not in too much of a good mood either not are you, little Earl?" She asked, resting her chin on her palm, a smile forming on her face. She had given him a nickname of her own, displaying how she teased him for his height, although, even with the rest of her legs, she'd probably still be shorter, "Ah, but today's not a day to be acting like that, we're finally getting to see them! Haven't we been waiting for this moment? The moment when we get to fight the titans?" Once she realized that she was getting carried away, she laughed casually and said, "Sorry, sorry, but I heard we were going to go soon, and it'd be bad for me not to have a partner, wouldn't it? Did you get your tanks filled by the way-"
"I want those whom ranked top 20 in the 147th legion of the trainee class to stand forth along with their partners. We will need you immediately at the front line."
Hiro heard one of the seniors yell and turned her head to listen. She was 7th place, so she would be apart of that list. That meant that she'd be going up there alongside Earl, and would face the titans, 'Its been five years since I've seen them...' She thought for a moment, her expression hardening, 'Its about time.' However, after thinking this, that cold look on her face eased to her usual sly looking grin.
"Keh." Hiro looked back at Earl and saw him spit down, "Come on, useless." He began to walk away.
"What- Hold on a moment!" Hiro snatch the back of Earl's shirt, her grip tight so he couldn't just shake her off. She puffed her cheeks then, with her other hand, patted her thigh and complained, "You can't expect me to walk there, can't you? Come come," She stretched out her hand, making the obvious motion that she'd turn into her weapon form, a glaive.
As a weapon, she stood to be five feet tall starting from the ground, and had blades on both ends. Surprisingly light, incredibly sharp, hooked; perfect weapon for killing titans. After all, she was the one who stayed mostly in her weapon form during battle, or perhaps it was just a coincidence that she was born, a weapon, that was capable of cutting off the nape of a titan's neck.
"Well?" She said, still holding out her hand. Holding hands, in her opinion, wasn't a sign of relationship, friendship, love; it meant transforming in her weapon, nothing else, "Unless, of course, you'd like to carry me, that's fine too. But I'm only carried princess style, for your information." She said with a teasing smirk.
It felt like they had been standing in the barracks for an eternity. It was crowded, yet, there weren't as many people here as she would expect. After all the commotion a few months ago, it didn't surprise her that there were so few people left. She stood with Elysia. After all they had been through together, the two were practically inseparable. She's the only one I can truly, fully rely on... She's... all I have left. However, Elysia was much more tense than usual, and it didn't take being her partner to see that. For now, Coraline had to ignore that. She was already suited up in her uniform and just finished strapping on all the 3DMG around her small body. While refilling her air tanks, the only thing she could focus on were how heavy they were at her sides. It was like this every time. However, no matter how heavy they felt now, her small body allowed her to use less air while propelling her at greater speeds. There were advantages to being as small as she.
She gripped Elysia by the arm and helped her fill her own cannisters with air. We have to stick together. There was really no way a single person could survive alone. That was the purpose of the Weapons and Meisters, but now that the Meisters were gone it was left up to the Weapons to help each others. After a moment, they stood off to the side of the seemingly shrinking room. Her arms hung numbly at her sides. Looking around the room she noticed that people from every different division of the military. She admired those from both the Survey and the Garrison, but felt shame to be from the Military Police. She didn't want to, nor did she chose to be so. She wrapped her hands around her shoulders, shivering slightly as she covered the badges on her shoulders.
While she stood by the side of her partner, she slowly began to recognize other groups and assume who was paired with who. She wasn't surprised by the figures she saw. Many of them were tall and strong and appeared as though they had already seen battle. When was the last time I... She quickly shrugged off the thought, refusing to allow her memories to take over. Focus on the present. Focus on this moment. Right now. Staring at the ground, someone had backed into her, bumping her lightly. Without saying a word she released her arms from around her self and shoved the person away, glaring back at them as the walked off, paying her no mind. She sighed in frustration. There were so many different reactions already, some people were completely breaking down, and others were completely relaxed. Coraline even saw a girl, the same who she noticed glare at her Military Police badges, who was completely relaxed and seemingly bored. "Would ya shut up!" Shouting across the room caught her attention as she stared at the commotion. An older girl, at least, older than Coraline, started shouting at another recruit who had started screaming. Can't say I blame them, but neither of their reactions are helping. Coraline wasn't about to intervene, for she feared her own emotions would surface in a similar way as the panicked person. "--it'll be the weapon you hold in your hand." Only catching the last bit of the shouting, Coraline could feel herself nodding in agreement.
"I want those whom ranked top 20 in the 147th legion of the trainee class to stand forth along with their partners. We will need you immediately at the front line." Someone's commanding voice echoed through the room. Sixth. Coraline had a right and a duty to stand in that line. However, she wouldn't have been there without her partner, the primary of the two. Truthfully, she hated being out of her weapon form. When she was in her normal, human state, she received many more looks and snide remarks. How could she blame them? She looked like a small child, completely unfit for the current situation. No matter... She tightened her fists at her side, glancing over to Elysia. I'm ready. At least, she wanted to believe so. Elysia barely met her gaze. What was she hoping for? Some sort of reassurance? Elysia got just as much ridicule as Coraline did. There they were, already surrounded by titans in comparison to their own small statures. A sad smirk appeared on her face. I wish titans were this size. She sneaked a glance up and down the line that soon started to exit the barracks. "Elysia..." It was more of an attempt to get her attention than anything. "Are you ready?... I'll shift when you need me to." Coraline felt the ground starting to rumbled, causing her anxious body to trembled at the same time. "The sooner the better..." Something was off about Elysia, but Coraline couldn't quite figure it out. Normally, she was able to read Elysia like a book, but the current circumstances required all of her own concentration not to succumb to her own doubts.
'Well looks like everyone is officially freaking out.'
Nori was eerily calm leaning against the wall of the barrack. He watched as people screamed and started to cry. He thought they were weak, yes he was scared too , Deep down that is, but still he was not about to break down in front of everyone and cry. Nori knew he didn't join the survey cops just to chicken out at the end, he wasn't one to joke around but when it comes to his role as a soldier or his work he did not joke around. With a big sigh Nori stood up dusting off his uniform.
"Okay people! Let's go! Let's go!"
Bright blue eyes looked up after hearing the man give orders. Nori's eyes quickly scanned the crowd that started to form and landed on his partner was making her way over to the doors with the rest. He began to navigate his way throughout the crowd. He swiftly moved against the crowd but he was stopped by a young woman who was frantically looking about shouting "Edward! Where are you!?"
Noticing that she needed some help Nori decided to take a quick detour. He made his way over to the brunette " Edward Marcov, That's your partner right?" The girl sniffled and nodded, thankfully Nori has seen the guy around before and knew his face pretty well. "Alright, wait here." He instructed then took off disappearing into the crowd.
Once the crowd was now outside all looking for their partners Nori climbed up the closet tree he found. His eyes once more quickly scanned the crowded for the blonde haired man when he finally spotted him. " There you are..." He whispered to himself.
After reuniting the two, Nori ran his fingers through his hair " Whew, that should do it then. Now where is Little red~?"
Right then the wind blew and Nori caught a familiar scent. A scent that smelled like Lavender and Vanilla and he automatically knew who it belonged too. After a good five minutes of following his nose Nori finally saw his target. He came up to Scar from behind and grabbed her hand pulling her away from the crowd. " You almost got trampled over there Red."
Again Nori's tone sounded eerily calm as his bright blue eyes stared into her pale violet ones. "You Ready?"
The sound of the giants footsteps vibrated the ground of the barracks, it was almost impossible to ignore.
Thump, Thump, Thump, Thump
It seemed more like a reality than a dream, no matter how hard he wished for it the sound, the vibrations, would not go away. It was get closer and closer by the second.
Thump, Thump, Thump, Thu-
Snap out of it!
Silvester opened his eyes. Around him people were running, almost like they had no sense of direction. He could hear the sobs and cries of people next to him. Though, some people looked like they were about to have the time of their lives. All of this only accomplished confusing him even more. 'Oh wait..' It finally came to him. The Titans have broken into the wall. The thought seemed to escape his mind for some reason. He was sitting outside, among the others getting ready for battle. His eyes scanned through the crowd. It occurred to him that he might never see any of these people again, but isn't that the risk he took when he decided to join the military?
Almost as if he snapped out of the daze he was in, he stood up nonchalantly. There truly was nothing to be worried about, at least in Silver's case. This is what he signed up for after all. The air-filled gas tanks were heavy as he stood up. His eyes scanned over the heads of the crowd once more, this time he was looking for his partner. Given how tall he is, it should've been quite easy, but he couldn't seem to find that odd head of chestnut hair that always seemed to stick out.
Silver stood there for a while, trying to put his natural deduction skills to good use. It was obvious that Cass isn't in the courtyard, so their would be only one more logical place to check. Barracks. Weaving his was carefully through the crowd of frantic soilders, all while covering his ears to keep him from going deaf from all the noise. Once he reached the barracks he leaned forward slightly to enter the door before he stood upright again. Silver was easily able to spot his partner out of the rest of the people inside of the building.
He casually walked over and tapped her shoulder to get her attention. "Yo, you ready to head out yet? Or are you still preparing?" Silver said with a small smile on his face.
ImageThey are...scared.. That was the only thought the doll-esque girl could conjure up, her expression one of vacancy, of stoical bearing for what was to come. Padding through the outskirts of the barracks within Shiganshina, there was an odd sense of surreality to the raven-haired soldier compared to that of the frantic bustling her peers exhibited, nerves high. In fact, one might even say the tension was to the point of suffocation that one would have to be robotic, inhuman, not to join in on the throng. Yet, Lyra wasn’t even remotely concerned...it was just a nuisance paired with an oddity. Giving a quick sweep of crowd surrounding her, it was the same in every person’s gaze; fear and uncertainty. But then again.. I guess they have every reason to be As if on cue, vibrations of the approaching brutes rattled the grounds, windows on the nearby houses responding violently to the disturbance. Wasting little time in professing their feelings, choruses from her left rang with quiet yelps and suffocated sobs, from her right being sharp gasps and proclaims of ”Oh...g-god..!”. And yet, for what just occurred, Lyra wasn’t shaken..hell, she didn’t even seem bothered by the idea of those towers of flesh closing in on their location. Giving a finalized sigh and one last lingering glance at her peers, the Survey Corp member continued on with her leisurely walk, silently taking bids on who was going to hold out until sunset.
As she travelled closer and closer to the hearts of safety, that pressing atmosphere noticeably lessened, people far more less edgy..though still a far cry from joviality. Even more importantly, people here were far more interested in each other, in how another stood out. As if proving this line of thought to herself and comrades, Octavia made it a point to connect her crimson orb with every stare that was directed towards the medical gauze patch, towards her signature feature. Though, the true gall rested within the individual’s reactions once they were caught staring; some were flusteredly embarrassed and others just kept staring in a wide eyed stupor. Giving a shake of her head, the chin length tresses catching a slight movement from the air cushion below, another sigh was expelled in exasperation. Consumed with her disbelief and ongoing assessment of ‘humanity’s only hope’, it was needless to say that her attention to what was in front of her had long since deteriorated. As such, it was a mild shock to her system when another body collided with her own, the latter falling prey to gravity. Halting her footsteps, Lyra’s stance immediately went on a defensive annoyance at this girl’s carelessness, that scarlet gaze slightly narrowing in discontentment as it honed in on the offender. This girl…..she’s Cassidy Lachmann… Ranked 5th, Scouting Legion recited her inner conscious with perfect fluidity, her piercing stare trailing after the fleeing girl once the pathetic excuse of an apology was said. Not seeing the use in tracking her down and forcing the ash-haired girl to be more heartfelt, Tavia merely gave a small tsk and continued on with her stroll.
Nearing the center of the barracks, the section in which the cannisters on the 3D Gear were reloaded, it took the royal a few moments to recognize the quakes and how they were growing with exponential intensity. A frown playing on her rosebud mouth, Tavia unconsciously kicked her pace into a higher gear, a sudden thought of Seto flickering into her forefront attention. Seto…. I..I hope he is ok.. whispered that inner voice once more, only this time holding a palpable concern. Scanning the crowd in a mixture of anxiety and confusion, the weight of her time away from her partner now sinking in, Octavia could feel a pressure on her lungs to breathe. It was always like this whenever she was separated from Ari… she would go into a daze then awake to a nightmare. Damn it Seto...where are you!? As if feeling her telepathic calls, the golden haired male’s voice broke through her heart racing moment, his tone soothing her anxiety instantly. ”Lyra!” Rushing towards that voice, the soldier could only manage a small smile seeing him fully geared up, his eager attitude radiating off from his stature. ”Sorry...Seto.. I was..um...wandering again. But I’m here now.” With her smile broadening in that familiar way, an expression only displayed whenever her best friend was near, Octavia glanced back over the tanks. Nodding at him to follow her, Lyra busied herself with refueling her cannisters, her feathery tone drifting out in casual conversation. ”So….are you excited for today..? Or are you worried..?”
"What- Hold on a moment!" Earl nearly doubled over as he felt Hiro grab onto the back of his shirt, pulling him towards her and away from the general that had left the barracks. He groaned, annoyance filling his every feature as he stopped and did not turn back. Taking a deep breath, Earl shook his head as if shaking off a thought. I need her- she’s my partner. Can’t let her die or kill her just yet. But his crimson eyes said elsewise as he turned to look at the blue-haired girl, his eyes tired and pronounced with something close to hatred- but it was marred with something else, something close to a sort of caring, one that Earl had refused to recognize for a very long time. "You can't expect me to walk there, can't you? Come come," Before Earl could say anything, the girl had already partially transformed into a glaive without waiting for Earl’s reply to her beckons, causing another sigh to escape from Earl as he looked at her with weary eyes. "Well?" She held her hands out, as if beckoning Earl to pick her up- which she was doing, of course. Great. Not right now. But it was not like his partner would be able to hear his inner thoughts. "Unless, of course, you'd like to carry me, that's fine too. But I'm only carried princess style, for your information."
With that, Earl slapped his hand on her forehead hard and then kept his hand on her forehead, as if to push her to the ground. “Stop transforming, God damn it, you know I hate it when you reveal your weapon form to others.” Without a second word, Earl picked up the girl in the exact way he had always done since the first day they had been partnered together- in his arms, princess-style. Ignoring the whispering and eyes of the other trainees who had somehow had enough time to calm themselves down to gossip, Earl walked through the crowd and out of the barracks, his tanks already filled with gas and his weapon in his hands. “Don’t move- if you do I’ll toss you on the ground and leave you there.” He said angrily, his face annoyed as he glared down at Hiro through the corners of his eyes. Why did I have to get the useless partner! Earl thought, but there was no answer to his question. For some, the question was a no brainer: Hiro had ranked 7th in their regiment though she was held back by her legs. For Earl, the question was much more complex: take her ranking as the full scope of her powers or base it on the fact that she could be extremely annoying from time to time? It doesn’t matter now- giants! His mental reminder for himself sent shivers down Earl’s spine and a smirk to once again form on his face. “Keh!” He spat again on the ground, turning his head in a wide angle so as to avoid Hiro’s legs. Finally! The word had been raging inside his mind ever since they had been called to the barrack’s- and now they were to be the first on the frontlines due to their high ranks during graduation.
Earl eagerly stepped out of the disorderly barrack and into the nearly empty grounds. The sound of breaking buildings and havoc could be heard from the army academy grounds that Earl now stood on- with Hiro still tightly held in his arms. For some, this instilled fear; For Earl, it only increased the size of the smirk that had been on his face. However, as Earl stood with his head turned to a side, his eyes roamed towards the four figures that stood in the center of the grounds, their hands behind their backs, staring at the 40 trainees that slowly straggled out of the barracks. Quickly, he wiped the smile off of his face and walked over to the four figures, standing but two meters away from them, in the placement he had been given ever since those few years ago. First. Shared! Earl glared at his compatriots before standing at the farthest left spot, his teeth gnashing together though the lack of Scar Bellerose and her partner gave him a sense of tiny triumph. Tardiness equates to uselessness! He laughed out in his mind, directing the thoughts at Scar Bellerose, though she definitely would not be able to hear Earl’s thoughts.
“Just stay in my arms, don’t move.” Earl said, not looking at Hiro as he turned to look at the four figures- one female and three male- standing at the head of the relatively small group that now started to form in front of them. But they did not start debriefing the trainees yet- most of the top 20 and their partners were still stuck in the rowdy barracks, though Earl had no idea why they were trying to avoid the chance to go and fight the giants. “Come on…” He muttered unconsciously, glaring at the open barrack doors, waiting for other trainees to slowly stream out so that they could head straight for the invading giants without delay. A cough distracted Earl from his muttering, as a man- the general for the Survey Corps stepped forward, his eyes harsh as he glared at the gathering trainees.
“We cannot wait any longer, let the others come afterwards; we must go and provide assistance to the men already out there fighting the giants.” A loud sound of a building collapsing cut through what the man was saying, but he looked unperturbed. Finally! Earl’s mad cackle mingled with the loud, cacophonous noise of bricks and stones hitting the ground- but no one heard. They were all too busy controlling their own fears and wishes, too busy making sure that they stayed sane in this land of sheer madness.
"Fight off your demons."
"Watch it!"
The mans voice was loud and right in Scar's ear too. He was tall and big, about a foot taller then her own height. With all the pushing and what not, she had accidently practically body-checked this big dude...even though it hardly even made him flinch. However, he was still pissed off about it and continued yelling nonsense at Scar while she continued trying to push through the big crowd...the big man right beside her just to probably irritate her.
Okay! I get it! Would you leave now, please!?"
Scar basically screamed back at the man, her eyes wide with anger, as she turned to her side and faced him. She didn't know if this stupid guy realized that a lot of people were currently trying to find their partners and trying to get in check. The man quickly put his arms in the air, surrendering to Scar's pure anger and irritation, before he waved his hand at her and turned around and quickly disappeared in the crowd.
Scar swiftly turned her head to face the crowd again, seeing if she could somehow spot her partner in this madness. People wee continuing to push and step on Scar's feet. The screaming of nonsense and the loud cries weren't helping much with the situation. People must of known that they were going to have to fight Titans sooner or later? Why is everyone so afraid? Isn't everybody basically prepared to die when they join a branch...?
Just then, a sudden calloused hand grabbed onto hers and began pulling her back. She gave out a sharp yelp and began trying to shrug off the hand and try to get out of its hold; until she was pulled out of the crowd completely and her eyes met with a familiar blue pair of eyes. Scar sighed, a slight smile on her face. She had found her partner. Or, he had found her.
"You almost got trampled over there, Red." Nori said, his voice sounding calm and quiet... as if none of this was bothering him at all. She rolled her eyes at his comment, preparing to say something like, "I would of made it on my own! It's not my fault so many people are here!" But she quickly decided not to, seeing that it was so easy for Nori to swiftly pull her out of that mess; hinting that Scar was no where near the front of the crowd...where she wanted to be in the first place....
"You Ready?" He asked, his blue eyes staring into her own. She stared at him for moment, almost forgetting what he had asked, before chuckling quietly. "Yes! Of course I'm ready! Are you ready? I'm ready. Let's go get in line." She replied, hoping her happy façade actually did some good. With her grip still on his hand, she charged back into the crowd, hoping Nori wouldn't let go of her tight hold on his hand behind her. The crowd was a little more calmer now... even though it's just been a minute. A few "Excuse me." 's and "Pardon me" 's actually helped her make her way through the crowd, some actually moving over a bit for her and her partner.
Before she knew it, she could see the line of trainees slowly beginning to form and she knew she was in the right spot. She let go of Nori's hand and tilted her head to whisper to him. "Let's line up now. Don't turn into your weapon form until we get going. Okay?" She whispered to him, but hopefully it was loud enough for him to only hear. She patted his shoulder gently with a smile on her face before turning around to go get in her appropriate place in the line.
And that place was at the front of the line. Number one. Even though she shared the spot, she was still number one. She quickly jogged her way to her spot beside her fellow number one companion, Earl. She slowed down her pace once she neared him, her calm features now replaced with a determined look as she cleared her throat. She made her way beside Earl, keeping her distance from him of course. She stood there, her back straight and her chin held high.
It had always been a competition for her to prove that she was better then Earl. So, when her back straight, measuring up to her full five foot four inches of height...she knew she would never measure up to Earl's own height. Still, she was determined to stay strong around him. Just for, once again, trying to prove she was that much better then him. She took short glances at the white-haired man all while thinking. 'How did he even rank number one next to me!? His strength only comes with his pure madness. He shouldn't be here at all. He can't even work well with the people around--'
Her thoughts were cut off when she heard the loud noises of building being crushed and tumbled over. She slightly cringed as one building hit the ground, the whole ground basically vibrating underneath her feet. The Titans were only getting closer, yet she didn't understand why they were still waiting. She wanted to get a move on. Scar began intertwining her fingers with each hand of hers behind her back. The were already sweaty and clammy, but she didn't let that bother her. 'Hope is stronger then fear. Hope is stronger then fear...'
“We cannot wait any longer, let the others come afterwards; we must go and provide assistance to the men already out there fighting the giants.” A man yelled out. 'Yes! Let's go already!' She thought to herself as she looked around at her surroundings, noticing that some others weren't indeed there yet. Others were already holding their weapons and looked fully prepared. Scar liked to wait before she got her weapon out.
The loud sounds of more buildings crashing to the Earth and bricks and different objects following along with that filled Scar's ears. Yet, she didn't cringe this time and began walking up towards the fight without another word or any orders. Her hands were clenched into small balls of fists at her sides. Her eyes roamed the inner village of Wall Maria that was now being destroyed. She knew people had probably already gotten injured and some had probably already died from fighting. She knew that these people couldn't stay here and watch any longer, including her...
'Hope is stronger then fear...'
“We cannot wait any longer, let the others come afterwards; we must go and provide assistance to the men already out there fighting the giants.”, Sam growled slightly before grabbing Garen hand. "Ya transform, and I will kick the shit out of as many of these suckers as I can seeing as your so out of it.". She commented, eyes fixed on the giant figures ahead and waited until she felt the familiar hand of Karens great sword.
Sam wasn't specialised in swordsmanship and was mostly a marksman, but she had the strength to us the weapon to the best of her abilities, not to mention she had learnt how to use it effectively in battle quickly. It was time to move out and no matter how many or little people she had around her, she was not going to let her or Garen die today.
"So 'Sir'", she drew out the title, bringing the giant greatsword to rest upon her shoulders, head tilted to the side and an easy smirk on her lips as she looked at the general who was giving her a glare that would of killed her stone dead if it weren't for the fact she wasn't that easy to kill. "Got any plans we should be aware of or is it just free for all, m'cool either way.". She grinned again, the sound of a crashing building emphasising her point.
It was almost to funny watching the general. She had known him vaguely due to her work in the Survey Corps and has always found him to be as annoying as shit, often not keeping her opinion to herself.
Frowning slightly, her eyes sharpened as she remembered precisely why she had been placed with the top 20 trainees. Despite the fact of being one herself, she didn't often consider herself one due to her military training and the fact that she had worked with the Survey Corps before 'Graduating'. And it seemed that making enemies by snide remarks and questioning their masculinity when they had decided to make her start over again with the trainees.
"God, if ya weren't in charge round here I would of loved to shoot a bullet right through that fucked up brain of yours.", she growled out again, voice slightly lower as she was reminded of her situation and this bastards part in it.
He smirked slight, and turned to address the small group once again, setting SAMs death a grinding. "3 Squads have attracted the attention of 5 titans each and are in need of desperate assistance. 2 South East and 1 East. 6 of you will split up and help one of these group each while the rest push forward and try to drive as many of the Titans out. Am I Clear."
There was no real question at the end but Sam smirked, "Crystal, 'Sir". Moving swiftly, she pulled the triggers on her 3DMG which propelled her forward and she was flying towards the group in the east, Garen strapped across her back as she moved, not even bothering to glance back the the remaining pairs. Her mind was filled with the giants, and how she would soon be seeing their blood.
"I want those whom ranked top 20 in the 147th legion of the trainee class to stand forth along with their partners. We will need you immediately at the front line."
"Okay people! Let's go! Let's go!
Seto readied his tanks, but silently cursed. Where was she? His partner? Now that all the humans were gone along with Meisters, there were really only Weapons left. And if one had no partner to wield, it'd be useless to head out there alone, and would be distinguished as, basically, suicide. Weapons were powerless without their own Weapon, and Seto had come to realize that, which is why had had only been getting ready, but hadn't exactly run up to join the others when called, 'Where'd she go...' He sighed and ran his hand tiredly through his hair. After all, he didn't get much sleep before after being alerted that it was their time to finally show off their skills.
Most people would begin crying, writing their farewell notes, praying that god would save them, not that it would matter... But Seto was waiting for this moment. Perhaps not quite excited, but not scared or apathetic either. Just... looking forward to it. But then again, there was also her, who's words still stayed in his mind just before she died; 'I hope they kill you.' Her ghost still haunted him, even as an adult now. His mother's words and shadows never left his thoughts, even in the most dire moments. But maybe that's what kept him driven to not hold back in the battlefield.
”Sorry...Seto.. I was..um...wandering again. But I’m here now.” Seto looked up from his thinking and saw Lyra, his partner, childish friend, and even someone he took interest in, smiling at him.
Seto let out a sigh filled with relief and stood up normally, as he was sitting down before, and said, "You took awhile.. It got me nervous for a second that you suddenly ran off or something. Well... I guess it doesn't really matter. You're here now and that's what matters."
”So….are you excited for today..? Or are you worried..?”
For a moment, there was a flash of his mother's dying and horrifying face and then Seto snapped back to reality, rubbing his forehead while in a daze. However, he tried not to show it too clearly when he said, with his normal voice, "Neither... actually. I mean, I guess I'm sort of looking forward to it, but then again-" He paused, then shook his head, "Yeah, I'm looking forward to it." Seto quickly ran a check on his gas tanks, almost looking a bit anxious, before looking back at Lyra, "You're ready right? We should get going then, everyone's lining up." He said and grabbed her hand before walking towards the line of the other soldiers, lining up with them just as they did.
Seto was a very confident young man, and stood tall next to the others, looking forwards with a stern expression, "You ready?" He whispered over to Lyra.
“We cannot wait any longer, let the others come afterwards; we must go and provide assistance to the men already out there fighting the giants.”
"Scratch that." Seto said, grabbing Lyra's hand once more, but then, and suddenly, shifting into a pair of dual hooked swords, "We're heading out now."
Just after her words, Hiro found herself her forehead get slapped, and then shoved back down, resulting in her stopping her transformation. Upon falling on her rear, she rubbed her forehead and complained, "W-What was that for!" She asked frantically, "That hurts." She grumbled childishly.
“Stop transforming, God damn it, you know I hate it when you reveal your weapon form to others.”
"Yeah, well, sometimes you're going to deal with it since I can't walk you know-" Suddenly, Hiro found herself swept off her feet, that is, if she had any. Then, just as usual from the very beginning, she was carried while Earl walked towards the line of the others, getting ready to depart to fight. However, despite knowing this, Hiro couldn't help but somewhat grow embarrassed and fussed, "H-Hey! I was just kidding! You knew, right? I wasn't really serious, I mean, sure I can't walk but I could have probably gotten around fine since it was really just a joke-"
“Don’t move- if you do I’ll toss you on the ground and leave you there.”
Hiro heard Earl threaten with that annoyed gaze down at her that she was already too used to seeing. To this point, she found it to be more of a daily expression rather than a threat.
Nevertheless, she wasn't going to take her chances of being dropped on the ground though, as that wouldn't work well for either of them, so she closed her mouth after stifling a tiny giggle and saying, "Yes sir, Captain Earl!" Once the two stepped outside along side the others, she frowned at the horrid sight. It reminded her of the exact scenario of what happened when she was only so young, or, in other words, the day when the Titans broke through her wall and took her precious legs away from her. The memories flooded her head in an instant when she saw the chaos going on outside, but she kept a straight face (or tried to) when she said, "Wow, it's worse than I anticipated out here.... But that leaves more prey for us." Yet her mind couldn't help but to stray to other thoughts such as; That just means more people will die, will I even be able to save anyone, this world really is falling apart. These dark thoughts stayed in the back of her mind the whole time she looked out into the open space of ruble. Hiro was one day going to be an adult, and she had already seen hell and was going through it again, yet here she was, still living with a mind of a child.
“Just stay in my arms, don’t move.” Hiro could hear Earl muttering, as he usually did. Despite all the things going on in her own mind, Hiro was still able to hear and pay attention to Earl and her superiors, "Come on..."
“We cannot wait any longer, let the others come afterwards; we must go and provide assistance to the men already out there fighting the giants.” One of the men shouted, and that caught the blue-haired girl's interest. Finally, it was time.
Immediately, and excitedly, Hiro glanced up at her partner and said in a hurry, "Hey, hey, lets go! They're letting us free so lets go!" Without warning, Hiro turned into her weapon, a double-edged glaive, and laid in his hands, still pushing him to get started on the 'killing the Titans' part though. Hiro didn't have legs, so, as a person, she was incomplete, but as a weapon, she had blades on both sides to compensate for what she had already lost. During these childish rants about getting a move on and hurrying up, being slightly audible, Hiro said quietly and darkly, "I swear Im going to kill those bastards for what they took from me."
They say that the most cheerful person can be the most dark.
