Hybrid Foster: A New Beginning

Hybrid Foster: A New Beginning

0 INK

In 2055, the hybrid foster system had improved society significantly. But still many hybrids are treated as second class citizens. So the system still exists where humans raise hybrids.

1,245 readers have visited Hybrid Foster: A New Beginning since Aniihya created it.

Introduction

It is 2055. Thirty years prior, the hybrid foster system was introduced. Its point was to give a hybrid, starting at age 12, into the care of a human guardian to improve human-hybrid relationships. In most cases, while first being treated as something else, humans became attached to their hybrid foster children as if they were family. In few cases, hybrids were removed from the care of a human due to obvious abuse. Back then, hybrids only could get jobs as servants or gardeners and were generally poor. But nowadays, many hybrids are middle-class and very few are wealthy. Some employers still do not hire hybrids. Shortly before the government wanted to call off the hybrid foster system due to little use for it, a surge in anti-hybrid violence occured. Therefore the hybrid foster program was extended by 15 years. Now we follow the hardships of hybrids and their foster guardians in the city of Shimura. Many of them have moved into an apartment complex in the district of Kinoe, where additional protect is offered. But most of Shimuras middle class guardians live in Kinoe. Here the hybrids will attend school, get their first part time jobs and grow close to their guardians.

Kinoe: Kinoe is a district of Shimura where many middle class families live. There is a district highschool, a residential area, side streets with many shops and convenience stores are often not even a five minute walk away. The school uniforms are normal japanese serafuku for girls in white and blue with gakurans for boys.

Human (Hybrids who do not have visible traits count as humans, adopted siblings count as guardians too.)

Shikurai's face lit up with childlike excitement as she saw the injuries of pre-op patients, both humans and hybrids alike. Some had missing limbs, other had been badly scarred, and many had lacerations of some sort. Shikurai attempted to sit up, so she could get a better view, but became irritated when she realized she was still strapped to the stretcher.

It was then that she realized she was nearing the doctor's office, the place in which she'd been dreading.

Karin noticed Shikurai tense up and said: "Don't worry. No one will harm you here. Just stay calm. There people here know what they are doing and they care for your well being. Some of the nurses here work overtime without asking for extra pay, because caring for the victims of hatred is more important to them than money. Of course, I still give them a specific bonus for their efforts."

The doctor shook Karin's hand and looked at Shikurai. "Don't worry. No one is going to hurt you here." Surprisingly, the doctor was a dog hybrid who had a friendly smile.

Miiko Ito

Miiko woke up to the sound of birds chirping at the window. It had been one of those rare nightmare-less nights and so Miiko woke up feeling well rested; a pleasant change. She went to the bathroom and stripped herself of her pajamas, turning on the shower and stepping under the hot water to wash away the dirt of yesterday. Miiko watched as streaks of brown traveled down her white wings and mixed with the water below.

When Miko stepped out from the pulsating stream of water she shook out her wings so that they were no longer heavy with liquid. She pulled on her school uniform and folded her wings onto her back so that they were nearly invisible. When Miiko finally exited the restroom the birds had stopped chirping and the small smile that had been slowly growing began to dip downwards. She went to the window to investigate and opened up the panes to reveal a dead bird with a nail through its throat, a slip of paper tacked to the head. Horror clenched her stomach and her knees began to shake. The sight of the bloody bird wasn't what did it, Miiko had seen dead animals before and wasn't that squeamish, it was what was written on the note that scared her.

You're next.

Shaking, Miiko used the bed to slowly stand up and with trembling fingers she redid the lock on the window. No longer hungry for breakfast, Miiko began to prepare her lunch; feeling as though she were about to burst into tears. Should I tell someone? She wondered as she rummaged through the fridge to search for the fish she had picked up from the market last night.

"I should make Shikurai a lunch too! I wonder if she likes fish?" Threat forgotten, Miiko hummed as she prepared her lunch and a bento for Shikurai as well. "Should I make Trayton one too?" Miiko checked to see if she had enough fish and sure enough, there was extra, so she made a bento for Trayton as well.

Carefully, she placed the Bentos in her bag and left for the hospital to make her delivery, slipping her outside shoes on as soon as she was out of her apartment. As Miiko began to walk down the hall, someone bumped into her and mumbled an apology, pressing a slip of paper into her palm.

Watch your back birdie.

Trayton

Trayton woke up early in the morning and decided to go ahead and get up. He scarfed down a quick breakfast, took a shower and headed out, opting to take a long, out of the way route to school to see more of the city on his way. As he walked through the streets, he payed attention to the other people around him, noticing that not a small number looked his way with disdain, clearly not liking hybrids. Still others didn't seem to care that he was a hybrid. By the time he reached the school, Trayton had spoken with quite a few people in passing as well as a few shop owners and had come to the conclusion that this city had a rather mixed opinion of hybrids. Some people considered them little different than humans while others considered them the same as animals while still others hated them outright. Tryaton knew he'd have to be careful who he trusted.

Much to his pleasure, Trayton arrived at school a few minutes early. He headed up to his classroom and took his seat near the back, the some seat he had sat in the day before. Hopefully today school won't be interrupted by protestors. He thought to himself while he watched the other students coming in, keeping an eye out for Miiko as he considered her to be his friend, and his only friend in the city at this point.

Miiko had dropped of the bento she had made for Shikurai, unable to shake the feeling that she was being watched. Maybe she was just being paranoid? But Miiko decided it would be best to walk on foot to school, she shouldn't draw attention to herself if she were to "watch her back," as the note had suggested. By the time Miiko reached the school yard she felt a bit more relaxed and shook out her wings with ease. Miiko would have to fold them up again before entering the building, but they had felt so cramped against her back and under her school bag.

When Miiko spotted Trayton in the classroom she smiled and took a seat beside him, hoping that school wouldn't be cut short again today. "I made you a bento," she said and took the neatly wrapped box out of her bag. "I hope you like fish, I wasn't really sure but I remembered you said something about water so I took that as a good sign." Oh gosh was she really rambling? She blushed at her realization and Miiko looked down, fixing the skirt of her school uniform and taking a seat at her desk.

Trayton watched Miiko enter the classroom and walk over to the desk next to him and then listened as she spoke. A puzzled expression crossed his face for just a moment when Miiko somehow made the connection of Trayton mentioning water and that meaning he likes fish. His expression quickly turned to one of surprise, with a happy smile, as he said "Wow, you made a lunch for me? That's awesome. And I do like fish, though I don't think I said anything before that would indicate that." Trayton reached out and took the bento box that Miiko handed him and then carefully placed it in his own bag. "Actually, this is great, I was in such a rush to get out the door this morning that I forgot to pack a lunch." He said as he turned back to face Miiko. "I guess I owe you a favor then." He said with a smile.

Miiko Ito

"Oh no," Miiko waved her hands to shake that notion aside. "I did it as a welcome to the school kind of thing!" She was blushing furiously at this point and could feel the heat her cheeks were giving off. Miiko looked away and bit her lip, hoping that she didn't look stupid or childish. "I-I'll be right back," she stood and quickly walked to the bathroom to splash some cold water on her face, maybe that would snap her out of this stupor.

She dried her face off with a paper towel and took a deep breath right as the school bell rang. "I should go back to class," Miiko uttered to herself and took one last look in the mirror to comb her hair with her fingers. She was about to exit the bathroom when one of the year 3 teachers entered the bathroom. "Ms. Ito I've been looking for you!" The teacher said cheerfully, "someone dropped this off for you at the office." She handed Miiko an envelope but before Miiko could open it, the year 3 teacher drove her fist into Miiko's stomach. The envelope fluttered to the floor whereas the hybrid was sent flying into the wall. Her head hit one of the sinks and lights danced before her eyes. Miiko tried to stand up, but her head was spinning and blood began to mingle with her blonde hair. The other woman advanced on the downed hybrid and drove her fist under Miiko's chin. Sending her head flying back with a snap! And into the sink once more. There were no lights this time, just pain that gave way to sweet, blissful darkness.

"Mr. Arumoto," the year 3 teacher stuck her head into the classroom that belonged to class 3B. "Ms. Ito wanted me to inform you that she went home early on account of an upset stomach." If one were to step into the girls toilets they wouldn't find any evidence of a fight, only an envelope with Miiko's name on it stained with droplets of blood.

Trayton

When Miiko left the classroom, Trayton began twiddling his thumbs as he thought to himself I hope I didn't say something wrong. after a short time of waiting, one of the teachers leaned in the door and announced that Miiko had gone home due to not feeling well. Trayton's first feeling was one of relief as he thought most likely she had left the classroom because of her upset stomach rather than because of something he had said. Then Trayton quickly scolded himself for feeling relieved because someone wasn't feeling well.

As soon as the teacher that told the news about Miiko heading home had left, the class teacher decided to begin class. Trayton payed close attention to what was being taught. He had only been schooled for two years so far, although a packed two years of schooling, but he wanted to keep up with everyone else his age and he wasn't fully confident he could do so. Thus he worked as hard as he could in class.

Classes went through the morning until finally lunch time came around. Trayton took his bag and began heading outside to eat in the fresh air. Remembering the lunch Miiko had made him, he wished she hadn't gone home, it would be so much more fun to eat lunch with her. I'll just have to enjoy lunch the best I can without her today. Trayton thought as he stepped through the door that lead outside.

Miiko Ito

Her head throbbed, her body ached. Whenever Miiko took a breath in or out her ribs made a terrible crackling noise. If she so much as made a peep they would come back and hit her, so Miiko dare not make a sound as she lay in the corner of the dark space. The doors swung open and the light stung her eyes, she drew in a shaky breath and gasped when rough hands grabbed her, pulling her out of the dark room. Someone had pulled the fire alarm, sirens were wailing, red lights flashing. I'm still... In the school? She realized and her heart sunk as they dragged her up a staircase and out the back doors towards the outdoor theater.

"Humans and hybrids!" A voice rang across the property to the children lined up for the fire drill. "We are the anti-hybrid league! Today you are all privileged enough to see a first hand demonstration of the liberation we will bring upon you beasts!" Her heart pounded in her chest as she realized what was going on; Miiko let out a squeal and got backhanded to the face. They were at the edge of the stage now and the speaker was gesturing towards her, "Your fellow student here has so kindly volunteered to be the first to experience the liberation." Her eyes widened as she was pushed on stage and Miiko stumbled, trying to stay upright although her efforts were in vain. They quickly pushed her to the ground and forced pried the hybrid's wings off of her back so that they were about half way open. Miiko felt tears prick her eyes, her breathing began to come out in quick panicked rasps. Miiko's plea caught in her throat as the knife came down, but it didn't cut her wing off, it only went far enough to expose the bone. Her eyes widened and a blood curdling scream left her lips as crimson liquid spilled out of the wound.

Trayton

Perched on a lower limb of a tree outside the school building, Trayton sat munching away at the food Miiko had made for him. It tasted good, the fish was well cooked and flavorful and the side dishes were just as well made. As Trayton was enjoying his lunch, he heard an alarm calling out a warning in the school building. A fire alarm? Yes, that must be it. He thought. But I don't see any smoke. Trayton hopped down from the tree and, leaving his lunch there, started towards where all the students were lining up outside the building. Knowing that everything was probably fine, he still didn't go over to them, instead he remained hidden and simply watched. His upbringing in the resistance group made him think it wiser to stay out of site until he knew exactly what was going on.

Soon the students and school staff were together near the outdoor theater. Then another group of people came from the building. Miiko was with them, no not with them, more like being dragged along by them. Trayton didn't know quite what was going on, but he could guess. Miiko was covered in wounds and bruises and the men were being quite rough as they pulled her up to the stage. When one of the men struck her across the face, rage filled Trayton to the brim. His face became mostly expressionless, but his eyes could have burned a hole right through a man's soul.

Trayton moved behind the theater, every bit of his combat training now put to use. Remain hidden right up to the moment you strike. Keep calm, think and act, don't react without a plan. Stay silent, and then strike quickly, not giving the enemy a chance to fight back. Those were the thoughts running through his head. Then the man standing next to Miiko brought down his knife on her wing. A chill traveled down Trayton's spine and his heart seemed to stop for a moment. He had seen people hurt, he had seen resistance members screaming in pain next to him on the battlefield, but it had never bothered him. This was different, Miiko was his friend and seeing her hurt like this both scared him and enraged him. Then came the scream, a terrible scream filled with pain and agony, now was the time to strike. Trayton was behind them, he lunged forward, striking across the head the man who was furthest back behind the others, knocking him out cold. Miiko's scream masked the sound of the man's body hitting the floor as well as the sound of Trayton's advance. He drew a knife that was hidden inside his waste band and threw it at the man standing next to Miiko. It sunk into the man's shoulder and he dropped the knife he was holding, now he was the one screaming. The two men who were holding Miiko's wings out quickly released her and turned to face Trayton. For one it was to late, Trayton was upon him already and he collapsed. Trayton advanced on the other man, who had a knife in hand now. They came together in a flurry of movement and before anyone could tell what was happening, the knife had been knocked aside and the man fell to the floor unconscious, Trayton stood unharmed.

BANG! A loud noise rang out across the theater. Trayton knew the sound, it was a 9x19mm parabellum round. He could feel the pain from the wound, it had hit him in the right arm, just below the shoulder, but it didn't bother him much, he was too focused to let it bother him. He turned around to see the man who had cut Miiko's wing, the knife Trayton had thrown at him still protruding from his shoulder. The man had stupidly fired the gun from his right hand, the knife was stuck in his right shoulder and the recoil had caused him to drop the gun due to the pain. Trayton once again lunged forward, in a flash the knife that had been in the man's shoulder was now stuck through his jaw and up into his brain. he fell over dead.

Trayton rushed to Miiko's side, ignoring his own wound. "Someone call for an ambulance!" He shouted as he took off the jacket of his uniform and pressed it to the wound on Miiko's wing.

Miiko Ito

Miiko didn't comprehend the shouts coming from the background, students screaming and running about as teachers tried to assert their authority and evacuate all the hybrids from the property. Miiko didn't watch as Trayton flung himself at the people onstage and drove his knife into the one that had attempted to cut off her wing. She was in shock and as the scream died off of her lips, the tears that had been pricking her eyes began to spill down her cheeks and a sob racked the hybrid's body. When the hands stopped pulling at her wings Miiko folded the uninjured one against her back, biting down on her lip to keep from crying out in pain.

As blood poured from the room, Miiko grew light headed. Her hands shook as she gently tugged the torn sweater of her uniform off and with shaky hands, attempted to tie it around the wound in order to staunch the bleeding. Another set of hands joined her along with a second jacket, the one from the boys uniform. She followed the hands up to the face of the owner and found that it was Trayton; another set of tears was coming on. How could she ever thank him?

"Th-than-k-k y-you," She managed to get out through her tears and hoped she didn't look as pathetic as she felt.

Blood stained Miiko's hands crimson and the light headed feeling gave way to a dizzy one. She felt like she had been sucked into a cyclone and spit out after it did its worst. Soon the girl could no longer support herself and her body swayed a bit before falling against Trayton; darkness began to tug her into its comforting arms. She fought it for a minute or two, she tried to reach back to finish tying the sweater around the wound. Miiko stopped struggling when she realized that there was no way she could win this battle and as darkness closed in and the pain began to subside, a thought struck her mind, but Miiko wouldn't get the chance to tell Trayton what it was.

Karin was on her way over to the school to bring lunches once again. She wore a light blue summerdress with a black choker. On her feet were only sandals. Then she heard a scream. It was Miikos scream. She hurried to the scene and noticed a man with a holstered gun trying to get away. "Time to try out this." Karin said quietly as she pulled out a pistol and loaded it with a dart. She aimed and shot, hitting the man in the neck. "Perfect." Karin finally made her way over to the school and found Miiko with a wound to her wing. Karin rushed over and called an ambulance.

"Damned anti-hybrid terrorists. Luckily I found a perfect subject among them for mutagen H. The bastard tried to get away." Karin said. "Don't worry Miiko, an ambulance is on its way." Screams of pain could be heard in front of the school gate. "It must be taking effect." Karin smirked. The man was growing fangs and a tail. His hair turned from black to red. "Damned woman! What are you doing to me?" The man yelled still in pain. Karin then replied: "It is mutagen H. I developed it myself. It was created to punish people who seek to eliminate hybrid by turning them into hybrids themselves. That dart was with fox DNA. Get lost and experience how it is to be discriminated by the people you called friends. By the way, if you cut off the tail, it will grow back. I will hear you out when you have experienced how it is to be a hybrid."

It seemed sort of evil and inhumane for Karin to do such a thing, but it was the only way she saw how to punish them without killing them. Soon the ambulance arrived. "This is bad. Two people in the hospital within two days from the same apartment complex. We might have to send you guys to a private school for your own protection." Karin said.

When Miiko looked back at Trayton, he smiled, hoping that would bring some level of comfort to her. But then he saw how she struggled to say "thank you" and Trayton could feel a knot forming in his throat. He was sure that the worry showed on his face despite his smile. "You don't have to thank me, I owed you for that lunch you made me, now we're even." He said in a poor attempt to lighten the mood.

Karin came running over just as Miiko began to fall and Trayton caught her in his arms, supporting her so she could rest. He could feel her body relax and loosen up as she slipped into unconsciousness. Trayton didn't care about the punishment the criminals would get right now, he just wanted Miiko to be okay. He looked Karin in the eyes. "The doctors can heal her, right?" He asked pleadingly. tears were just beginning to form in his own eyes, he had never cried for another person before, he had never had someone to cry for, it felt strange to Trayton.

Sirens could be heard as the police and ambulance pulled into the school yard. By this point, Trayton had forgotten his own wound, where one of the men had shot him in the arm.

The ambulance arrived a few minutes later and loaded Miiko quickly into the back. One of the medics realized that Trayton was hurt as well and went over to his side, "I need you to come with me to the hospital so that we can treat that wound." She said, "can you stand?" If not the woman was willing to carry him into the ambulance. The sirens to the ambulance started up again and the woman decided to not wait for an answer, she picked Trayton up and placed him in the passenger seat in the back before turning around and bowing respectfully to Ookami-san.

Trayton now sat in the waiting room at the hospital, his right arm in a sling. The bullet had missed his bone and done no major damage, his arm would need to be in a sling for a while, but he didn't need to stay at the hospital. Now he was waiting to hear how Miiko was doing, the doctors were still working on her. Trayton had tried distracting himself, he had called his boss and told him that he couldn't work for a while because of his arm, he had tried talking with other people in the waiting room, that didn't work as most people weren't in the mood to talk, he had even tried counting the number of tiles that made up the floor in the waiting room. But now he just sat in a chair, waiting to find out how Miiko was doing. Worry was clearly visible in his expression, and perhaps a little anger at himself for not being able to keep her from harm to begin with. It was nice to have a friend his age, but it brought more troubles than Trayton had anticipated.

The doctor came out looking grave, he was obviously tired from a long, hard day of work. Thankfully they had some of the new technology developed in Ookami's lab, but even so there were things a machine couldn't do. He walked over to Trayton and pulled down the mask from his nose. "We managed to save her wing," he said with a sigh and wiped his brow. "But there was a lot of internal damage and she lost a lot of blood." He wrung the mask in his hands. "Nothing is certain unless she wakes up."

Two nurses were wheeling Miiko upstairs to the ICU. She looked almost peaceful laying in bed, wrapped in blankets with machines gently beeping by her side, making sure that her bodily functions were doing what they were supposed to.

Kuma White

A lot had happened in the past day or two. For the most part Kuma did her best to stay out of trouble. When the protestors had been outside the other day, Kuma had been watching them from her window and sort of frowned when she realized her bike was still there. "Aw my bikes down there." With a pout she got up after the announcements came on, ignoring Ms. Karin's words. Kuma ended up having to walk back to the apartment complex. Although there was a lot of grumbling involved Kuma opened the door to her small compartment without much of a scratch on her body. The few people she did pass shrunk in themselves once they realized her height.

Dropping her things off by the door, Kuma slipped out of her shoes then socks and eventually everything before stepping into her room and falling on top of her bed. A pout on her face she didn't bother trying to get into bed properly. "Woke up early in the morning pedaled, even crashed into that one girl. And for what? To go back home cuz of some bunch of protestors." Growling a bit, Kuma reached out and pulled herself closer towards the middle of the bed and fell asleep.

~ ~ ~

Waking up ass she did normally Kuma got ready for the day and was soon heading down the stairs for school. For once her school day wasn't just any other school day but something much more. By lunch time, Kuma had found herself a secluded spot near the outdoor theater. Eventually a bunch of people streamed in make her tense and grumble a bit however her grouchy mood, having been intruded upon, changed when that scream filled the air. At first Kuma had simply stood there watching with indifference for the most part but that scream, that scream stunned her.

Dropping the food she had in her hands. Kuma's body visibly became rigid and soon began to shake. Her pupils dilated then shrunk to mere slots, her teeth poked out biting her lower lip as anger and fear swelled in her chest. The food she hadn't dropped was thrown aside and soon enough Kuma was pushing and shoving the crowd aside. Which wasn't that hard for her to do .considering her massive height and incredible strength. After a certain point the whispers of a huge hybrid making their way to the stage came to the ears of a few individuals and so when they heard grumbles and yells they quickly got of the way.

The sound of a gunshot made her ears twitch and she cringed just a bit. As she got closer and closer to the stage the smell of blood came about. The smell made her blood curdle with hate and disgust. Someone's hurt. Let it be those damn bastards. Sadly Kuma's wish was not granted when she reached the stage. On the ground was Miiko, whose wing was cut to the bone, and beside her was Trayton a bloody splotch on his shoulder. Ms. Karin was there too with a gun which surprised her but not as much as to what the bullets did to the man her landlady shot.

While Karin's attention was elsewhere, Kuma jumped onto the stage only to be tackled right back off. Her body landed with a thud, her head snapped back and hit the floor. Lights danced across her vision but adrenaline soon kicked in. Throwing the body off her, Kuma sat up and watched as the man whom Ms. Karin had shot ran off into the crowd. "The bastard! Ouch!" She yelped when she put her hand n the ground, bringing it up closer for inspection and saw that it was already starting to swell up. Growling a bit, Kuma eventually managed to get back up without the aid of her left arm and looked over at her classmates.

An expression of concern settled on her chocolate features and she rubbed the back of her head tenderly where it had hit the ground. Wincing, a knot had already begun forming. Kuma went to the hospital to see how badly her sprain was which wasn't too bad. After a nutse had iced it then wrapped it up tightly in gauze Kuma went to explore a bit. She got to the reception desked and asked where Miiko was staying. The lady gave it to her but told her she would have to wait a little while before she could check in on her.

Aknowledging the lady, Kuma went to the waiting room and found that Trayton was there as well. The first thing she noticed about him wasn't the sling but the worryful expression he wore. A soft frown on her face Kuma plopped right on down in a chair across from him. Facing Trayton she gave him a small smile, "Crazy day huh?" Her words fell out flat and it was obvious she was trying to fill the void. Rubbing her head, Kuma came up close to him so she could look him straight in the eyes. With one finger she poked the middle of his brow, "You're gonna get wrinkles worrying yourself like that." Smiling, Kuma sat back in her chair and folded her arms but then realized she couldn't with her wrist. " I'm sure you're girlfriend will be alright." Giving him a nudge with her foot, "Ya' know I don't think I've introduced myself. I'm Kuma, Kuma White a hybrid as you can tell from the ears and no I'm not a rabbit. I'm a polar bear. And you?"

Trayton

When the doctor told him that Miiko's wing would be ok, Trayton was relieved to know that much. Her wings were important to her, or at least that's what Trayton thought. "Thank you doctor, for doing what you can." he said to the doctor. The doctors didn't want Miiko to have any visitors yet, so Trayton continued to wait to find out more.

It wasn't until she poked him that Trayton realized Kuma had even entered the room. "You're gonna get wrinkles worrying yourself like that. Kuma said before sitting back in her chair. Trayton just looked at her, his expression not changing. Then she introduced herself and Trayton felt he should do so as well. "My name is Trayton Takahashi and I'm a monkey hybrid, as you could probably tell from my tail. I know my first name is English and my second is Japanese, that's because I was adopted. And she isn't my girlfriend, at least, I don't think so. I don't think we've known each other long enough for that." Trayton said as the look of worry faded from his face, replaced by a slight expression of... curiosity maybe? He didn't seem the least bit embarrassed about Kuma calling Miiko his girlfriend though. "And yeah, you're right, I guess worrying won't help anyone, it's still hard not to worry though." Tryaton said. "So, what brought you here, to the hospital? Is Miiko a friend of yours as well, or are you here for something else?" Trayton asked.

At the hospital Karin slumped against the wall. "Two of them in the hospital. I wasn't there to protect them. I have failed my duty. Why?!" She sobbed. She was rather devastated over it. Karin didn't want anyone to be treated the way she was. She had an idea. The others might not like it though. Karin went over to Trayton who was momentarily talking to another hybrid. "You two. The public school isn't safe for you guys. Too much is happening right now. With Shikurai and Miiko in the hospital, you might have to enroll in a private more secure school for hybrids and their foster siblings. It would be for your well being. The foster program has gone on for over 20 years now and yet still very many people are willing to oppress or even kill hybrids." Karin said to them. Her wolf ears popped out of her hair and her tail appeared from under her dress. "Surprise! I too am a hybrid. A wolf hybrid to be exact. I just don't want you to suffer like I had to."

Miiko Ito

Miiko gasped as she returned to the world of the living, the tube in her throat making it difficult to breathe. She winced at the pain that flooded her body and wished she could go back to being unconscious if not to escape from the horrible feeling, but to escape from the reality of what had just happened. Miiko couldn't tell if she had her wings, the only part of her body that was numb was her back and it filled her with a sensation of dread. What if they couldn't save it? What if the doctor had cut her wing off? Miiko moved around a bit to try and determined if it was still there only to moan in agony.

Then Miiko remembered Trayton and her eyes widened, she pushed back a strand of bloodied blonde hair from her face and slowly craned her neck to look out the window of the room, but she couldn't see anything. Was he alright? She remembered the gunshot ringing out in the outdoor theater. A machine beeped and she turned her head towards it only to find a half empty blood bag and an epidermal machine attached to an IV pole on the side where the beeping was coming from. Miiko's mind suddenly felt foggy and the quick, sharp breaths that had been making her ribs crackle slowed until she slipped back into the comfort of darkness.

Kuma White

Watching him, his facial expression changed little which made her worry she had gone to far, but then he began to introduce himself. My name is Trayton Takahashi and I'm a monkey hybrid, as you could probably tell from my tail. I know my first name is English and my second is Japanese, that's because I was adopted. And she isn't my girlfriend, at least, I don't think so. I don't think we've known each other long enough for that."

A single white brow rose upon his last choice of words. It was accompanied by a bemused smile, "You don't think so? Hmm you must be some guy to not know when you have a girlfriend or not. Here's some advice from your senior. Never miss the opportunity or you may regret it." Although her words of advice may not have actually helped the younger hybrid.

"And yeah, you're right, I guess worrying won't help anyone, it's still hard not to worry though." Tryaton said. "Yeah I think it'd be weird if you didn't." A small laugh escaped her lips and she gave him an apologetic look due to the situation at hand. "So, what brought you here, to the hospital? Is Miiko a friend of yours as well, or are you here for something else?" Trayton asked. Kuma leaned back into her chair, looking at everything but him. Almost as if she had gotten lost in her own world. Then a sheepish smile played on her lips. Raising her arm, she pointed with her good hand at the her bandaged wrist.

"Oh nothing serious. Just sprained my wrist after being tackled by the human turned hybrid guy. I must say, I wonder why Ms. Karin would even carry around that sort of weapon. Oh well people have their worries as do I. I'm not particularly close to Miiko, we've been in the same class before but we never really spoke much. Probably cuz I was sleeping half the time." At that point in the conversation Kuma scratched her chin absent-mindedly.

That's when the very woman she mentioned earlier showed up. However the moment she opened her mouth, Kuma could see a lecture of sorts coming on so she zoned out ad only heard snippets. You two. The Blah blah blah inst safe blah. Blah blah blahToo much is happening blah blah blah. Blah blah blah to enroll blah blah private blah blah school blah blah blah." After she said private, Kuma completely zoned out cutting her off for the time being. And it obviously showed in how Kuma presented herself. Stretching to her full length, Kuma slouched in her chair a bored expression on her face. That is until the tail and ears popped out, although this didn't surprise her too much. Having lived in. That apartment complex for as long as she has and you get to figure people out pretty quickly.

"Surprise! I too am a hybrid. A wolf hybrid to be exact. I just don't want you to suffer like I had to." At hearing this Kuma couldn't help but snicker at her landlady's choice of words. " Suffer like you did. What makes you think we haven't already? Besides you being a hybrid isn't really all that surprising. You always did smell kinda funny so I assumed you weren't as you said you were." She said plaintively and with a shrug of her shoulders she addressed what Ms. Karin had said earlier.

" So what your saying is we have to go to a private school to stay away from those who wish us harm. Now isn't that a great way of dealing with a problem, by running away and hiding amongst ourselves." Her words came out dry and it almost seemed like Kuma was offended. However her tone of voice and her posture spoke two different things.

Trayton

Trayton mulled over Kuma's words in his head. Never miss an opportunity or you may regret it. Perhaps that's good advice. He thought to himself. Taking opportunities is what got me out of slavery to begin with, and then taking another opportunity is what put me in Japan and allowed me to meet good people, like Miiko. I should take this advice to heart. He finished this thought just as Karin walked up to the two of them.

Trayton listened as Karin spoke, then she announced that she was a hybrid as well. There was a stunned look of surprise on Trayton's face. "You're a hybrid!" His words came out almost like a shout as he jumped to his feet. Then he sat back down sheepishly. "Sorry, it just surprised me. I, I guess we can get to that in a minute. I have to agree with Miss White, we can't just run from the problem, separating us from other humans would only serve to make humans less comfortable with us. That would just give the bad guys what they want. No, we need to continue to face the problem or we'll never get anywhere." Trayton stated that last part resolutely. Relaxing a bit, he then said. "And why have you been hiding that you're a hybrid?"

((OOC: Don't really have anything to post but it seems that no one else is gonna reply so I'll just do a dream post))

Miiko Ito
"We're so disappointed in you," she was frozen to the spot, shame filling every cell in her body. Her foster parents didn't want her, the government didn't want her, not even her real parents wanted her. Why? Why did they all hate her so much? What had she ever done to them? "I hate you!" Miiko screamed and ran upstairs to her old bedroom. She had returned from the nightmare that was her foster home two nights ago and things hadn't been the same since.

In the safety of her overly purple room, Miiko pushed away cardboard boxes packed with her things and shoved aside stacks of paper. Miiko was not going to cry, no, she was going to handle this like an adult. Miiko stripped her bed, moving things around until it was done. She had built the best fort an avian hybrid could ever want; the sound of her Mother's footsteps echoed down the hall and Miiko ducked inside, pulling the sheets closed and flopping back on the pile of pillows. She was prepared for the worst, but the footsteps went right past her door.

She awoke to someone shaking her, Miiko jumped, nearly bumping heads with a figure in full riot gear. "What's going on?" She asked sleepily, wondering when she had dozed off. Miiko slowly stood and followed the man out of the fort. "We received a call from your parents saying you went on a tyrant and began destroying things. When we arrived they relinquished their parental responsibilities." So it was true, they really didn't love her after all.

"I do not know how to otherwise prevent hybrid students from getting harmed as anti-hybriders infiltrated school staff. It's not like all police are exactly hybrid friendly either." Karin said. "By the way, I had hidden my identity as a hybrid for two reasons. The first is to avoid conflict with people who have issues with hybrids, secondly it is to protect the welfare of my businesses. I do not want my employees suffering just because a bomb went off in front of a store because I am a hybrid. I should generally avoid conflict with anti-hybriders because after the abuse I suffered from my foster parents, When I had enough I defended myself against my foster father and left the house."

Re: Hybrid Foster: A New Beginning

It seemed to have gone longer than my usual roleplays. Thanks for not quitting after three days and actually letting me know when you were going to opt out of the roleplay. :D

Re: Hybrid Foster: A New Beginning

Hmm well then I guess I will also be taking my leave. It doesn't seem like Masqerade or Chaotic are continuing so:p

Re: Hybrid Foster: A New Beginning

I am officially withdrawing from this RP. Thank you for the fun times up to now and I hope everyone still in the RP can keep things going and have a fun time with it. I will abandon my character and you can do with it what you see fit.

Thank you and goodbye

Re: Hybrid Foster: A New Beginning

Ahem. It wasn't supposed to be a "High school roleplay". Every roleplay that involves teenagers and young adults isnt about high school. That's why I generally dislike people making teen characters because it will automatically make them think it is about high school. This time it is intended that there are teenagers but it is not about high school. It is about the integration of hybrids into society and the difficulties behind it. So generally it is a sci-fi drama.

Re: Hybrid Foster: A New Beginning

I agree with you on that. I joined this role play because it was a high school tole play wit hybrids and I thought it'd be fun. But from where it's going now it's going more towards exploiting the tradegies and mystery behind Karin. Then again I already guessed that that was how it was going to go simply by reading Karin's Character Sheet.

@Driton
As for the latter that is true to some degree. I normally only rely on notifications when it concerns my characters. It's one of my biggest pet peeves on this site where a player posts but oesnt tag anyone. When there are a lot of posts it helps to tag a character so you dont have to look through everything trying to figure out which posts relate o their own character. Yeah I kinda guessed she wouldn't since she didn't take the initiative to send out pms when we got quiet. I thought of doing it myself but that isn't my job, I already have enough role plays of my own to worry about.

Re: Hybrid Foster: A New Beginning

Hmm, well honestly I'm not so sure about how I feel about this RP and the way it is going. Seems like it is heading pretty much where it was originally stated that it would not go, which is basically to a sci-fi horror drama. Problem is, it wasn't designed to be that from the start, so it won't do well as that. I'm thinking it might be time to consider officially shutting this one down, but those are just my thoughts on the subject.

@Polarisbear12
My notifications rarely tell me when my characters have been tagged anyway, so I just check any RP I am in. I have been checking this one every other day from the beginning to see if anything happens. Point is, if people are relying on the notifications then they probably miss a lot of posts. Also, Aniihya did not follow your suggestion of sending out a PM to the players, so anyone not following this RP won't know anything about what is going on.

Re: Hybrid Foster: A New Beginning

@Aniihya
>-> Abominations . . . I see . . . hmm to be honest mentioning abominations from your characters experiments kinda ruined the mood a bit, as did your post. There were things, mainly the last sentence, that didn't really need to be said. Any how why not send the others a pm? You didn't tag anyone so they won't know that you posted and it'll go on in silence a bit longer. If it's just you and me then I'll have to drop out. We can give them until Wednesday to respond or something.

Re: Hybrid Foster: A New Beginning

Sure. Why not? But I am not sure where the story would go, maybe the abominations of Karin's medical experiments?

Re: Hybrid Foster: A New Beginning

Yeah>.>

So will we be continuing this or no?

Re: Hybrid Foster: A New Beginning

Polarisbear12 wrote:So uhh . . . . what happened? I believe the person to post next is Aniihya or have we possibly died?

That was the 24th of May, we've been waiting on you to post:/

Re: Hybrid Foster: A New Beginning

I first started up a new one after this one was inactive for more than two weeks.

Re: Hybrid Foster: A New Beginning

So have we died? I noticed you've started up quiet a few role plays, but I don't know if that has contributed to the lack of focus here. Any how if this thread remains silent after I've posted my say here, then I will be removing my characters permanently from the role play. It was fun posting with you guys, or at least some of you who were good writers, any how I hope to role play with you guys in another role play and hopefully under better conditions.

Oh. Hi! I'm back, I guess.
Been super busy. >.>
So, yeah. I'll try and get a post up soon..

Re: Hybrid Foster: A New Beginning

Yeah I know:p I've been trying to work on it all week and was going to post it but then Anniya posted. So I had to rewrite a little bit of it. That and I still have posts to weite for my other role plays>.<

Re: Hybrid Foster: A New Beginning

But, but, the weekend hasn't even started yet and you probably won't post until the end of the weekend? *sad face*

Pouting aside, thanks for letting us know. I can't promise I won't get bored and post before then though.

Re: Hybrid Foster: A New Beginning

Sorry for not having a post up yet. Things got a bit busy at school and I still have a posts to write for 3 of my own role plays, which are really important to me, and another one that I've been a part of since I first joined>.< I should have a post up by the end of the weekend though, sorry for the delay.

Re: Hybrid Foster: A New Beginning

Glad to have you back Polaris, it will be good to have another player in the RP. Your way of getting Kuma involved in the situation was good, you didn't have a whole lot of options.
