From most any angle Ayumi is unremarkable in appearance and looks quite average in most ways. Not too short nor too tall, not overweight but not slim, the brown locks of her hair blend in quite well among the more common dark colors, the only thing that might stand out a bit about her are her blue eyes, and even then, those are often obscured behind the lenses of her glasses. Additionally her wardrobe is quite plain as well, conservative in style and reserved in colors and patterns, it's hardly something that stands out but might be called cute if one were to notice her out of the masses in a crowd.

Soft-spoken, gentle, kind, fragile, all of these are words that you might hear if you asked one of her peers about this unassuming young woman. And that assessment would be fairly accurate. As her appearance is quite mundane, her actions and behavior are similarly mild and reserved. When out and about or in school she portrays these traits quite consistently, never one to speak up or make a ruckus, quick to give a small and shy smile, and always willing to help and lend a hand to whoever might need it. She was however not always this reserved and quiet girl, during her elementary years she was quite an excitable and outgoing child, but that all changed with the death of her mother. Since her Jr. High years she's recovered somewhat and made small strides to emerge from her shell, but is still treated as a fragile person by most of her peers.
At home however, her behavior is considerably different. In a place of comfort and among others who won't judge her, Ayumi's stranger and nerdier tendencies emerge. In her hard and reclusive times in the past Ayumi often retreated into the world of fiction, diving deep into books, manga, anime, games, anything that served as a proper escape and distraction. As she matured her interest in these things only grew and, while she keeps it a secret from most, it is a hobby she takes very seriously and in recent years she's even taken up the practice of creating costumes for cosplay, though she's too nervous to actually do it herself.
Ayumi firmly holds the belief that she's really not good at much of anything, having never really found anything she's excelled at in the past aside from her above average grades. Despite this, she tries quite hard at everything she does and dislikes coming at anything half-heartedly even in the face of the frequent failures or simply rather average results she achieves. Along with this, she often seeks out new things to try in hopes that she might eventually discover something she's talented at.
Ayumi's childhood was really nothing special as the only daughter of her small and happy family of three. From a young age she was always a bit fragile and quick to try and also quite the mama's girl who always sought her approval and affections, which she often received in folds. Much like she is today, Ayumi never quite excelled at anything in particular, but she was certainly an energetic and enthusiastic girl with a glowing smile who always tried to do her best and make her parents proud. As a whole, the family was quite close and loving and generally free of any real dramas or hardships. That was until about the time Ayumi entered the 5th grade.
It was around this time that Ayumi's mother took a rather sudden and harsh turn for the worse. At that time the details were kept from Ayumi, all she knew was that her mother was in the hospital often wasn't feeling well. Over the course of the next year and a half her mother's condition only worsened until she ultimately passed away. Her death was hardly a shock, it wasn't sudden or traumatic, but it still left a profound sadness on Ayumi and her father for years to come. To this day Ayumi still looks up to her mother quite a bit and frequently takes time to visit her grave, always treasuring the memories she shared with her.
