"T
he part I hate the most is the running, but it's the only thing in my life that's real. The rest is a lie. My name. My birthday. Even Henri. People think he's my father, but he's not. His job is to keep me alive. We're hiding from the Mogadorians, a brutal race that wiped out our entire planet, Lorien. Only nine children escaped the genocide. We were each given a number and sent here to hide. I don't know where the others are, I only known when one of them is murdered. Because of the spell our Elders cast, the Mogs can only kill us in order. That's the reason I've survived this long. But our enemy is relentless. With number three dead their hunt has turned to me. I am Number Four."

The gas station was abnormally crowded as word of a late winter snow storm approaching the area spread like wildfire. Ashley sighed as she sat inside her 1970 Chevelle, waiting in line to turn inside the gas station's parking lot.

"What is wrong with these people, it's just a little snow for crying out-loud" she spat, before pulling her hoodie off and throwing it into the passenger seat in frustration
Despite the forecast snow storm for later on that night it was actually quite mild out and stagnant inside the classic Chevy.
A couple more minutes would past by before Ashley's frustration hit max and she'd promptly drove over the curb and through the grass until her car hit the parking lot's pavement. Not giving a damn she'd park completely cockeyed in two spots before turning the car off, grabbing her Black leather backpack, and making her way towards the gas station. She could hear yells coming from upset drivers still waiting in line, but she payed them no mind and was far more amused by the two cars who decided to follow her over the curb.

Bad weather was one of those things that could momentarily make people lose their minds, and the individuals of Athens, Ohio made that perfectly clear - from the absurdly long gas lines to the chaotic pushing and shoving inside the actual Gas station market. Usually she hated such fuss and crowds, but the bickering at the front counter made it even easier for Ashley to sneak to the back of the store and begin shoving things into her backpack.

"Sprite or Mountain Dew? I think I'll get both!" she joked to herself, at least she thought she was alone, and when she'd close the cooler door she'd jump a bit at the sight of a four or five year old girl staring up at her.

"Um..Hi?" was all she could think to say as she slung the now full bag over her shoulders and crossed her arms under her chest.
"Why did you put those in there?" the little girl asked, with a finger pointing dead at Ashley's bag. She'd attempt to play dumb but the little girl had clearly seen everything and wasn't going to drop the subject.
"Okay okay, I put them in my bag.." she admitted as she knelt down to the girls eye level. "..but if I show you something totally amazing, you have to promise to not tell anyone - deal?"
The young girl hesitantly looked around before nodding, and within a moment of the girl agreeing to the deal Ashley would vanish from her sight, reappearing only a second or two later at the Gas Station's bathroom door several feet away. She'd wave to the wide eyed girl before going inside and locking the door.
As she climbed out the bathroom window she could hear the little girl calling for her mommy, repetitively asking "did you see that?" only to be shushed.

A huge smirk was painted on Ashley's face as she reached her convertible and threw the bag into the passenger seat before hopping in.

Athens was a few hours out from Paradise, and even though Ashley would've much rather taken a break from all the driving she had been doing she knew she had come too far to stop now. Number Four was close, she could feel it.....she was finally going to make contact with the first of the five other Lorics here on Earth, and there was no way she was stopping so close to her goal. So after browsing through a few maps on her laptop Number Six would put her car in drive and hit the road.

.......

"Welcome to Paradise." Ashley read aloud as she slowed to a crawl, eventually coming to a stop only a foot or two from the welcome sign. After her three and a half hour drive the cloud cover had increased markedly, so before she continued into Paradise she'd step outside and pull the cover up on her car.

The town clock read 1:45pm, and thanks to the schedule she found online she knew the local High School let out at 2:15pm.
"I hope I'm right...or else I'm wasting time!" Ashley thought as she parked the car a few blocks from the school, stepped out, and then locked the doors.
It was a known fact for anyone on the run that the best disguise is to hide in plain sight, and with that in mind - as well as the information she had found from the internet - she was pretty sure Number Four was hiding in plain sight as a student, and by the time the school let out Ashley would be sitting by a window inside the library across the street from campus - staring intently at everyone making their way out the school's front doors.

When the Sun crept through the curtains, John could finally get up and stop trying to fall asleep. It hadn't worked for 4 hours, he had the feeling he wouldn't sleep ever again. He stepped out of bed and walked to the kitchen to see if there was anything left to eat. He walked past the running PC's and monitors before opening the fridge. Two lonely bottles of juice were staring at him. Like always there were post its on the, Henri and John. Still not fully in terms with what happened the evening before he grabbed his own bottle and drank all of it.

There was no food so instead of waiting around he got dressed. Simple jeans and a hoodie would do and not long after he stepped out the door. He didn't really know what to do next. Henri was usually the one making the decisions, and he would have probably packed up shop and moved away from Paradise. John however, couldn't do that. He had one friend left. one person that knew his secret and he couldn't abandon Sam now. Speaking of, Sam was walking across the grass toward John. "So...," Sam said "you didn't sleep either, huh?"

John shook his head in silence. He thankfully accepted the muffin Sam gave him as they started walking towards the school. In order not to give himself away to any of the other inhabitants he thought it was best to just keep his normal daily routine. He couldn't even think of what else to do. As far as he knew the Mogs still did not know where he was. The previous night when Henri was killed they hadn't been anywhere near Paradise. They were at least a couple of towns over. Also if he would leave town now, it would be difficult to start all over again somewhere else. He was a bit too young to stay by himself, or at least it would raise some questions. He had been thinking last night to finish high school and than move to the other side of the country for college, but that would still require him to stay here for a few months.

Sam was talking non stop, although John wasn't registering anything he was saying. He noticed the clouds in the sky and the fact that a breeze was coming up. He pulled his hoodie over his head and his hands in his pocket. He wondered if he should use his new-found legacy to get a bit warmer, but Henri would probably advise against it. As they walked into the school yard they were surprised they weren't the first ones there. Unfortunately the people there were Mark and his friends, not the kind of people John and Sam usually hang out with. They were hardly within shouting distance when the first one opened his mouth to them. "Look who it is, old loser and new loser. Shall we beat the crap out of you, or would you like to go home and let your step father do it?"

"I'm not in the mood Nimrods. Either try your best to punch me in the face, or just shut ... the...fuck..up." Being a bit more direct than usual, they didn't seem to have a reply. And after the little skirmish in the woods a few weeks earlier, they would think twice before trying to punch him. The two of them decided to wait on one of the school benches. Sam kept on talking and changed his voice to a whisper when more people started to arrive. "Sam, just let it rest for a moment okay? My mind is going 10 ways even without you talking. I just need a bit of rest now, and history will be perfect for that."

Half an hour later they were in said history lesson. The teacher seemed as old as the subject he was talking about and did not pay much attention to the students. Sitting behind a rather big guy he was hidden from direct eye contact with the teacher and he rested his head on the table. Finally, after all these hours, his eyes seemed to close from the sleep deprivation. It was one of the girls in his class that woke him up a few minutes later when the class was over. At least it was a short day today and they were done just after 2PM.

"So what are we up to now John?" John sighed when he looked at Sam. "I'm about to do some grocies. There's nothing left in the house, apparently." They were standing at their lockers putting their books away. Usually he would take one or two of the books home to study, but he didn't feel like it today. They walked towards the exit when Mark and his friends tried to block their way. John was still pissed off. He almost walked through them, one dropping to the ground and another being caught by his friend. Sam followed as the bullies were trying to get themselves together again.

John threw open the door with both hands. You would think that throwing some bullies to the ground would help relief some stress, but it had only pissed him off more. He felt the burning in his hand getting stronger the angrier he got. He stuck his hands in his pocket as he was standing in front of the school. It was pure luck that Bernie Kosar was sitting outside the school waiting for him. The sight of his dog did calm him down enough for the burning sensation to stop. As he petted his dog Sam came up behind him. "Are you all right?" he asked carefully.

John stood up and looked at his friend. I'm better now, are you coming along to help me with the groceries? I wouldn't blame you if you didn't... Sam didn't mind at all and promised to come with. Sam walked ahead a bit and Bernie followed him. John himself stood with the strange feeling. Suddenly he looked over at the library at the other side of the street. He had a feeling he was being watched. Mogs...? He decided it couldn't be, he wouldn't be able to sense them in any case. He quickly followed his friend and his dog on the way to the supermarket.

.......

It seemed to John that he was buying way more stuff than he could eat. He would probably have to invite Sam over in order just to finish this stuff. They took pretty much a bit of everything. Somehow there was lots of meat, lots of bread, eggs and candy. There was no room in their shopping cart for vegetables and John thought there was more than enough to drink at the house already. He paid for the food with Henri's credit card. The clerk looked a little bit suspicious, but it was easy to convince him that John's father had asked them to get the groceries.

On the way to the house John seemed to be a lot calmer than before. He had the feeling his dog was responsible for most of that. John didn't have him for long, but he had the feeling the dog was like an old friend. Almost if he understood the dog's every thought. When they were close to home however, Bernie's mood changed from happy to alert. John knew what the dog was feeling as he felt it himself. Somebody was watching them again. He spoke to Sam in a low tone. "Sam..., leave the bags with me and go home. Someone is watching us and I don't want you to get in the cross fire. Don't worry about me, I'll text you later, let's say at 8." Sam's face switched to concerned and John saw him open his mouth in order to protest. With a quick "No discussion." Sam handed over his two bags of groceries and started walking in the other direction.

John came to the house with the same sense still haunting him. He stepped into the house and cleared out the fridge. He took the shelves out and put in the bags he had just bought in its entirety. The box Henri had left him was safely at Sam's house. There wasn't any stuff at the house that would give away his heritage. Together with Bernie he stepped out of the house and into the car. The sense of urgency only grew and with spinning tyres he drove off. He just had no idea who he was driving from and no idea where he was driving to.

As the rush of kids filing out of the school began to slow to a crawl Ashley sighed. Number Four was nowhere in sight and she was beginning to question her assumption. "Maybe I was wrong. But if he's not going to school, what's he doing?"
Number Six stood up from the windowsill and stretched as she racked her brain for her next move, but something pulled her back to the window, and within a few seconds she'd spot a familiar face. Her heart skipped a beat as she ducked down. It was him, for the first time she had finally laid eyes on another Loric.

Ashley would quickly grab her bag from off a nearby table and make her way towards the library's back exit - instantly going invisible before opening the door.

Keeping pace with Number Four and his friend Ashley would walk only a few yards off to their side, but when the two stopped inside a grocery store she wouldn't follow them inside. Despite the heavy clouds the little town was buzzing with activity, and Ashley would have to wait a few minutes before she felt alone enough to reveal herself, seemingly out of thin air, in an alleyway next to the store. As she waited there Number Six pulled out her Samsung Galaxy Note and began to browse the net, and soon afterwards a voice would address her out of the blue.
"Uh, you waiting on someone or what?" A kid in an apron asked, as he threw a trash bag into a nearby dumpster. Ashley cursed herself in her head for being so careless and letting someone sneak up on her, but she managed to force a small smile onto her face and mutter a quick "no" before walking out from the alley.
As she shoved her phone in her pocket she'd noticed the supermarket door opening and quickly went invisible. Sure enough it was Number Four and the kid walking with him.

"How many fucking people does he live with?" she thought to herself as she noticed the amount of food they were carrying.

The two would eventually come to a stop a ways from the supermarket, and Ashley would back up until she was behind the body of a massive oak tree and reveal herself. Her invisibility was draining, and while it was a slow drain that wasn't easily depleted she still felt a relief from briefly revealing herself behind the tree as she listened to the two boys talk.

""Sam..., leave the bags with me and go home. Someone is watching us....." was all she needed to hear to go invisible again and quickly climb a few branches up into the tree - disturbing a few birds in the process.
"Shit!" she thought to herself, as she glimpsed the boy who she now assumed was Sam walking away.

Watching as Number Four entered his house Ashley paid close attention to the dog with him, who seemed to be much more keen on her presence than Number Four himself.
"A Chimera..." she whispered aloud, suddenly curious to know if Number Four was aware of what exactly his companion could turn into. Her thoughts were quickly interrupted by the two coming back outside and hoping into a car. Ashley jumped down from the tree in anticipation of him taking off, but at the speed in which he took off there was no way she could keep up with him, so as the car turned the corner off the dirt road Ashley would reveal herself and sigh.

"Where is he in such a rush to anyways!" she spat while kicking the dirt with her black combat boots.
Frustrated Ashley would flounce down on the house's front step, rest her elbows on her knees and her chin in her hand.
Hoping he'd only be gone for a short while she decided to sit and wait, but after 20 minutes or so she'd stand up and stretch - determined to track down his car.

Ashley had walked only a few yards down the dirt road before she felt eyes on her back and came to a stop. Call it a sixth sense but she knew she was being focused on, she could feel it.

"What do you want?" she called out without turning around. There would be several seconds of silence before a voice finally responded to her.
"Well this is quite unexpected, two for the price of one - as they say here right?."
Her heart sunk as she realized who she was talking to, and as she slowly turned around she came face to face with three Mogs - one holding the boy she knew as Sam by the back of his collar.
Instead of showing fear though a cocky smile formed on her face as she narrowed her eyes at the Mog who was clearly the leader of the bunch.
"Number Six, is it? Yes, Number Six, you easily gave yourself away."
He spoke in an awkwardly accented English as he pointed to the marks on her leg, which were clearly visible thanks to the black short jumpsuit she was wearing underneath a thin jean jacket.
"Well I figured you idiots might need a little help tracking me down, so why not show some leg?"

The cheesy grins on the Mogs faces dropped instantly after being called idiots, and the apparent leader of the pack took a couple steps towards her - pointing backwards towards Sam. "This boy here, you want him to live yes? Then you should consider helping us, for your death is inevitable but his doesn't have to be."

The threat fell on deaf ears. Ashley knew they couldn't kill her, and she'd be damned if they'd take her without a fight.
"You wish big boy."
Immediately after she spoke Number Six went invisible and pulled a small dagger out of her pocket. Within seconds she was behind the leader of the three of Mogs and stabbed him in his gut. She knew the weak blade she had wouldn't kill him but it was enough to cause him to drop his weapon, which she quickly picked up. In what felt like an eternity but was actually mere seconds, Ashley went invisible again, ran up to the Mog holding Sam by the collar and revealed herself just to shoot him in the head - instantly turning him to dust.
"Come on, run!" she yelled to the boy as she grabbed his hand and pulled him behind a tree, giving the Mog she stabbed enough time to limp back to his feet. He was hurt, but the other one quickly made his way towards the tree and began firing. One of the bolts of energy from his gun brushed Ashley's bare thigh and caused her to bite down on her lip a bit before again going invisible. However, due to her energy draining, this time her invisibility wasn't full proof, there were cracks that gave away her position and the Mog was again able to aim at her, but before he could fire she'd reveal herself and fire directly at his chest - knocking him back into the ground.

With both the remaining Mogs injured Number Six quickly turned to Sam and told him to follow her, and off into the woods both would go. She could tell the Mogs were following them for a short while, but as they continued through trees she sensed them eventually pulling back - likely to regroup.

After running for several minutes the two finally broke through the woods and into the back parking-lot of a local restaurant that looked vaguely familiar.
"Come on, my car isn't far from here."

In the hour or so since school had let out it had gotten markedly gloomier out, and even though it wasn't evening yet a few street lights had popped on from the heavy cloud cover, including the one directly beside her Chevelle - which was a much welcomed sight.

Ashley threw her backpack into the back seat before flouncing down into the driver seat and shutting her door. Once Sam closed the passenger's door she'd start up the car and just sit there for a moment, going over what had just happened in her head.
"So uh, are you Number Six, or Five?" Sam suddenly spoke up, seemingly as excited as he was nervous. "I-I don't know how this number things work but-"
Annoyed with his rambling, Ashley cut Sam off and completely ignored his question. "Where is Number Four?"
"Uh, I don't know but-"
"Don't you have a phone? Call him! And tell him to meet you by the Welcome sign, say it's an emergency and that's it."

It was about a ten minute drive to the Welcome to Paradise road sign, which was surrounded by a prairie on both sides. Like she had assumed the road leading into and out of town was completely empty, so after shutting her cars engine off she'd step out onto the road.
The temperature had dropped several degrees but to her the cool breeze felt nice against her legs, and as she looked down at her thigh she was surprised to see that the wound there had healed quite a bit already - appearing more as a red bruise than an open wound. Regeneration was a somewhat new legacy for her so she was still taken a back by how quickly she healed in comparison to others.

"Stay by the car" she'd blurt out to Sam, before wandering off into the tall grass.
Once several yards or so away from the car she'd pull out her phone and take a picture of the field in front of her. She had always hated the idea of traveling around, but she couldn't help but enjoy seeing new places, and over the last year she had begun to take pictures of indistinguishable locations, and despite the darkening skies the prairie just outside of Paradise still made for a pretty shot.

After several minutes of hearing nothing but the breeze Ashley would hear a car approaching them and turn to see who it was. Through the thick tall grass she'd spot a car that appeared similar to the car Number Four had left his house in, and as it came to a stop behind her and Sam walked over to it pointing in her direction, Ashley would stand - stone faced.

The same questions he had when he drove away were still going through his head passing the first town away from Paradise. He know he had been followed, he just didn't know if he'd done the right thing in driving away. Even worse, he had left Sam behind. If his followers were Mogs, they might figure out Sam was a way to get to John. Bernie Kosar lay next to John seemingly asleep. For the first few miles he had been tugging at John's clothes as to indicate they should go back, but John still thought leaving had been the right thing to do.

A burning light on his dashboard distracted him from his train of thoughts. He was running out of gas and as luck would have it he did not have any money on him. Wow John, you lasted about 30 miles on you own without fucking up. He saw a sign on the side of the road indicating a gas station was coming up. He parked on the side of the road and got out of the car. For a moment he could see Bernie head coming up, ever vigilant. From the back of the car he grabbed the fake license plates he and Henry had been using for years. He replaced them quickly before getting back in the car.

A few minutes later he pulled up at the gas station and filled up the tank. Getting into the gas market he overheard a conversation between the stock taker and the cash register employee. "I'm telling you, I only count 98 bottles of soda, not the 100 you told me there should be." They seemed more upset than they should be, especially if it only considers some drinks. John quickly put some candy bars in his pocket before walking to the cash register. "Hey, do you have any freshly baked bagels?" The man behind the counter looked at him with confusion in his eyes. "Okay, no worries." He walked out the door leaving the man confused. Strange, the question hadn't been that weird...

John got back in the car and drove off without ever paying. He saw the gas meter rising in the first 2 minutes and was glad he was on his way again. Only a few minutes later his phone started vibrating. Sam's smiling face appeared in the screen. John swiped his finger over the screen accepting the call. "Hey Sam, I thought I said I'd call you tonight. Are you all right?" There was a natural worry in his voice, not strange in this situation. "I'm all right John," he was happy to hear it was Sam's voice speaking, "it wasn't what you thought, or actually it was, but then she came and then it wasn't any more. She fixed it, isn't that awesome." His voice sounded excited, but confusing. What the hell is he talking about...? "Sam, calm down. What exactly happened?".

When Sam spoke again he sounded a bit calmer. "I can't tell you on the phone, John. Meet me as soon as possible at the Paradise welcome sign. I'll see you there. Sam hang up straight after. He left John speechless. He was somehow less worried than before, only he didn't know why. Sam's ranting should have only made him feel worse, but the joy in his voice calmed John down. He turned his car around and sped up. With almost double the speed he raced back to Paradise.

It was just over an hour that he was on the road to the welcome sign. In the distance he saw a car standing that he had not seen before. The figure sitting on the hood however was one of the most familiar faces in his life. He parked next to it and opened his door. "Hey Sam, where did you get the new car from?" The smile on Sam's face surely was the same smile he had when calling John. Sam spoke like a teasing child: "I met another Alien, na, na, na na, na. He continued with a normal voice. "I met number 6, at least I think it is 6. In any case she is one of you."

John knew what he meant. He had the same smile on his face that he'd had when he'd found out John was alien. However, John was not inclined to believe this that easily. "Stay here..." The look on John's face was one of mistrust and vigilance. He walked through the small patch of tall grass and saw a girl standing there. She must have been about his age, and the first thing he noticed was her bare legs with the marks on it. She was tall and she looked like she could handle herself. He wasn't sure what to say, he didn't know if the marks were convincing enough for him. "Not to be rude or anything, but you honestly can't think I believe you right away when you say you're an alien. So why don't you tell me something convincing enough for me not to get in my car with my friend, and drive the hell away from this place?" He didn't know what to expect, it wasn't like he had been in a situation like this before.

As Number Four approached Ashley crossed her arms over her chest and tilted her head slightly to the side. She noticed him looking at the marks burned into her legs, the same marks he and every other Loric child on Earth had, but continued to stare directly at his face until he came to a stop - his friend lingering several feet behind him.

"Not to be rude or anything, but you honestly can't think I believe you right away when you say you're an alien. So why don't you tell me something convincing enough for me not to get in my car with my friend, and drive the hell away from this place?"

His tone caught her a bit off guard, and as Ashley's eyebrows perked up in slight disbelief a snide smirk appeared on her face, all while she walked towards him - stopping only inches from him.
"So you want some form of proof?" Number Six leaned in until her nose was almost touching his, then shrugged her shoulders. "Well alright then"
Seconds after her remark she went invisible and shot back several yards before revealing herself again. "Want more so-called proof, sir?" She asked in a rather sarcastic manner, and before getting a response she'd go invisible again, appear behind Number Four, and then reveal herself again only to trip Number Four. Ashley figured he'd react in time to prevent himself from falling flat on his back, but she still chose to tease him. "Your reaction time was kind of slow there, maybe you're the one who should be showing me proof, hmm?"

Number Six ran her fingers through her hair as she took several steps back and sighed.
"Where's your guardian? And if you're leaving Paradise, what exactly is your plan, or are you acting on emotion without really thinking anything through?"

The girl reacted in equal hostility, something he should have expected. Although surprised he was happy she did react the way she did, it was easier to react to this than it was to react to the damsel in distress. The girl was pretty, somehow familiar to him in a way he couldn't describe. If she was who she said she was it would be the first time John met someone from his home planet, except for Henry of course. The idea excited him, but he tried to remain hostile for Sam and his own safety.

How big is the chance she is a Mog-trap? he thought to himself. He heard about their disguises, but this disguise was hard to believe. Before he could think to much about it she walked right up to him, without him moving an inch. If needed he could always blast her away with telekinesis, it was not perfectioned, but it was powerful.
"So you want some form of proof?" She paused a moment for emphasis "Well allright then."
John readied himself for what was coming, but however he tried to do that, it did not prepare him for her dissappearing right in front of him. Before she reappeared he widened his stance and leaned on his right leg as Henry told him to. She came into view again quickly several yards away from him. His surprise changed into combat preparation when she disappeared once again.

Seconds later he felt a jerk at his left ankle when she tried to trip him. Although not entirely successful he still had to keep himself steady by landing his left knee on the grass. Her teasing words would have at one moment angered him, but not now. He was impressed, and even more important, he was convinced. Invisibility was not a power of the Mogs, and certainly not of humans. "Your reaction time was kind of slow there, maybe you're the one who should be showing me proof, hmm?"
Happy as John was to meet one of his kind, he was not reay to put all his card on the tabe. His telekinesis, his ace in the hole, he would keep to himself for now. He held out his hands with the palms facing the girl. Without words and without warning he activated his Lumen power as quickly an as bright as he possibly could. His own eyes hurt from the excessive light coming from his hand. "Consider it proven..." he said with a smirk on his face.

The girl sighed and spoke again with what seemed annoyance. "Where's your guardian? And if you're leaving Paradise, what exactly is your plan, or are you acting on emotion without really thinking anything through?"
The question regaring his guardian threw up a feeling of sadness. If Henry had lived just a bit longer he would have met her. "Henry, my guardian, died last week after we were ambushed by Mogs. And I was leaving Paradise because someone followed me, so no real plan there, but a certain sense of urgency. He paused for a moment before he continued. "Your guardian dead too? Henry always said it was too dangerous for us to be together, but I guess we should now our legacies are manifesting. How exactly did you find me though?" He was wondering what mistakes he had made that had made it so easy for her to find him.

John walked back to his car and gestured for the girl to follow him. "Follow me to my house, I'll make us something to eat." Almost forgetting Sam he suddenly noticed the now much more quiet boy leaning against the hood. Without words he gestured for him to get in the car, and John himself took place behind the wheel. John once again noticed how silent Sam had become, he thought the boy was maybe shocked at the display between the two aliens. As a comforting sign he placed his hand on Sam's shoulder while he was driving and gave him an approving look. Honestly he didn't really know what to say. He never met an alien before...

Not long after there were two cars in the drive way where John and Henry had only moved in a few weeks earlier. He took the hastily packed away groceries out of the fridge and stored them properly. While the others said around the kitchen table he started preparing dough for the pan fried pizza. It didn't take long and on high fire the pizza's were done in about 30 minutes. After cutting them John put the two pizza's on the table and took the first slice for himself. "So..., it's nice to meet you and all..., but what do you suggest we do from here?By the way, just to formally announce I'm 4, but you can call me John."

Naturally Ashley smirked when Number Four relented and considered the 'proof' she gave him to be enough evidence that she was who she said she was. When he in turn opened his hand and let Lumen pour out of his palms Number Six instantly moved closer towards him and took in the energy, much like a addict would their drug of choice.

"Henry, my guardian, died last week after we were ambushed by Mogs. And I was leaving Paradise because someone followed me, so no real plan there, but a certain sense of urgency."
Number Six's face soften a bit at the mention of Henry dying, a feeling she could most certainly relate to.
"Your guardian dead too? Henry always said it was too dangerous for us to be together, but I guess we should now our legacies are manifesting. How exactly did you find me though?"

Ashley nonchalantly pulled a smartphone out from her jacket's pocket and tapped on it's screen. "You might wanna stay off the internet, that video of you at the beach helped me find you and Henri's last place, and that harebrained stunt here in Paradise ending up on some sci fi freaks website helped me find you here in Ohio. Being a Hacker I deleted them - you're welcome - but in the future you might want to avoid showing off in front of cameras, they're everywhere nowadays."

After shoving the phone back into her pocket Number six would took a few steps back before answering Number Four's first question. "My Guardians dead too. Died to mogs nearly a year ago."
She wouldn't easily admit to anyone that the topic of her Guardian was still an emotional touchy subject, but it was evident by the brief silence between both Lorics that the loss of their Guardians hit hard.

Eventually Number Four spoke up again, as he began walking back towards his vehicle. "Follow me to my house, I'll make us something to eat."

Ashley wasn't comfortable with the idea of staying in Paradise for too much longer, but food was an offer she couldn't decline, so as Number Four got into his car with Sam, Ashley got into hers, and would soon follow the pair back to the house they had all, in one way or another, left only hours ago.

........

It was an awkward experience for Number Six to be inside the house mogs had just hours ago tried to attack, with two people who were virtually strangers. She was use to flying solo, and even though it has been part of her plan for a while now to find the other Loric children on Earth, it was still a surreal experience to actually have accomplished that with Number Four. So as the pizza's cooked there was next to no conversing, and the only sound came from the television that Ashley had placed on Cartoon Network.
Half an hour later the Pizzas were done and each of them dug in - Ashley a little more so than the other two with five slices piled up on her paper plate.

"So..., it's nice to meet you and all..., but what do you suggest we do from here?By the way, just to formally announce I'm 4, but you can call me John."
Ashley laughed softly under her breath before taking a quick bite of her pizza and then responding. "Let me guess, Smith. John Smith? Well I'm Ashley, Ashley Smith. Seems both our guardians were 'uniquely' unoriginal."
She'd scarf down another slice and a half of pizza before speaking up once more.
"In all seriousness though we probably shouldn't spend the night here. I'm not sure if your friend filled you in but it was me following you to earlier, and three Mogs showed up here shortly after you left. I killed two and injured there leader so they're out of commission so to say at the moment, however it won't take long for them to get reorganized. Mogs are some of the best hunters the galaxies have ever seen, losing two and injuring one isn't going to stop them for long."
Ashley would eat her final slice of pizza before getting up, walking over to her bag, pulling out a road map, and then dropping it on the table in front of John. "If we look at things from there side they'll probably assume we're heading to a big city where we can fit in, say New York. I also dropped NY and DC hotel cards on on the ground earlier during our little scuffle, and I noticed on our way in that they're gone now. They'll probably see through this diversion but still have some of their guys head East - which is a good thing, since we'll be heading North."
Number six opened the map of Ohio and pointed to the very top of the state on the edges of Lake Eerie. "We're going to Ashtabula. It's a small little town a few hours North of here with a Bed & Breakfast we can stay at. We might stick out like sore thumbs amongst the locals but we should still be safe, seeing as how we won't be there long and the Mogs shouldn't immediately be on our tails. We can spend tomorrow figuring out how to get across Lake Erie and into Canada, then we can discuss finding Number 7, unless you have a better plan?"

Quite a lot of information was dropped on John and Sam at once, but Ashley couldn't afford to discuss things out over a few days, they had to leave - now. "So yeah, pack a bag or two or three, and I call dibs on the computer equipment over there." Ashley said as she pointed to a table in the corner that had quite a few computer/electronic devices on it. She'd then turn towards Sam and shrug her shoulders. "You're a liability, if a mog got a hold of you they'd make you crack in five minutes. I suppose it would be better to keep you in sight than have you stay here, but I don't know."
Ashley would stare at the kid questionably for a moment before turning around and heading towards the computer equipment. Conveniently there were a pair of hard silver suitcases beside the desk that housed the devices, and in several minutes they'd be packed to capacity and in the back of her Chevelle.

"Are you ready to go? You can lead the way if that's okay, since you probably know this backwards state better than me." Ashley would call out as she came back into the house.

John was happy to see the pizza fell in good taste with his fellow alien. As he was taking a slice of pizza he watched 'Teen Titans, go' from the corner of his eye. Even though he wasn't concentrating on the storyline he was still terribly annoyed by Robin, like he always had been before. He felt strange for a number of reasons, first of all Henry had never enjoyed his pizza as much as the two new guests seemed to. Secondly, this was the very first time there was a girl in his house. Sam had been allowed by Henry before, but never had he allowed any girl on the premises. Although coming to think of it, none of the girls they met before were Loric.

John was thinking of the attack from the Mogs earlier. He was wondering if it was still save in Paradise. He knew the answer, and he knew what to do about it. Fleeing was something he had done for years, not just second nature, but more first default. And now more than ever he wasn't looking forward to the next move. He hadn't been in one town for this long in years. He'd gotten used to the people, he teachers, and most of all the take away meals from Lin-Wah.

Him introducing himself had been the first attempt to a conversation so far. He had thought that Sam would have been the one to ask all sorts of questions, but he was surprisingly quiet. John thought it might be because Sam was scared of what was going to happen. He had the feeling Sam never really had friends before John came along and that he was afraid it would change back when John and Ashley would hit the road.

"Well I'm Ashley, Ashley Smith. Seems both our guardians were 'uniquely' unoriginal." John had had many names before. Smith, Jones, Johnson, all of them just as plain normal as the next. Smith had somehow stuck to the first name John, as if the name had some historical meaning. Henry had kept that up since it was just about the most common name in the United States. John guessed he could choose any name he wanted to, but he had grown so used to John Smith that he did not want to change it.
John seemed to have broken the ice with his introduction. Ashley caught her voice and started laying out the plans for the next day. Listening to the plan John realized this was not her first rodeo.

He actually got excited when Ashley mentioned NY and DC. Henry never took him to the big cities. It had been an endless list of small-towns and forgetful hamlets. His initial excitement was gone quickly after Ashley admitted it was just a rouse to keep the Mogs off their tail. He didn't like the sound of North, it meant it was going to be colder, and he hated colder. He wanted to interject and maybe offer a counter proposal like Florida, but before he could, Ashley mentioned going into Canada. John was startled: "Don't you think Canada is overdoing it a bit...?" It took a few seconds before he realized that she said finding number 7. "unless you have a better plan?"

"Wait, wait, hold on... Finding number 7? Why are we looking specifically for 7? Do you have any idea where he is, is he in Canada?" He just was getting used to the fact that he met number 6, and now he was going to chase after another one. He felt blinded by 6's knowledge, her dedication and the fact she seemed to do it with ease. John was impressed, but not nearly as much as Sam was. His eyes had only grown bigger as the conversation went on. Ashley apparently didn't notice it as she gave him the quick and short. "You're a liability, if a Mog got a hold of you they'd make you crack in five minutes. I suppose it would be better to keep you in sight than have you stay here, but I don't know." Sam just stared her in the face, not finding the words to reply. John interjected: "Sam, snap out of it. Go home, get two bags of clothes and come back. If you want to tell your stepfather and mother anything, just tell them you're going camping for a few days. Here...," John grabbed the keys from the counter and threw them at Sam, who caught them without thinking,"use my car, and call me if something's wrong. We'll come to you as soon as we're done. We really need to go."

Without being told to, or not to, Ashley started packing the computer stuff. John sprinted upstairs to pack his own stuff. Thankfully there wasn't much for him to pack. He had been here for a while, but after learning from previous experiences he had never unpacked. He just grabbed the things that were left in the laundry and put them in a plastic bag. He would wash them in Ashtabula, or Canada, wherever they would have the time for it. In 5 minutes he had his stuff in the back of Ashley's car, while she simultaneously put in the silver suitcases that had belonged to Henry before. It made him realize there was a room he had not yet packed, Henry's old room.

Standing in the middle of it he realized now more than before that Henry was gone. He was a bit scared he was clinging onto Ashley a bit faster than he should. It was just so damn easy to not be in charge. On the other hand he did feel guilty. He was the man, he had powers, shouldn't he be the one leading?
The two suitcases belonging to Henry were under the bed. He almost panicked about the Loric box, until he suddenly realized it was at Sam's house. The box could only be opened by a Cepan together with one of the Loric children. The only way around this was for the Cepan to be dead, and come to think of it, he was. John would be able to open it by himself, but he felt no need to. In fact it scared him a bit. With the suitcases he walked down the stairs.

Down the stairs Ashley was waiting for him. "Are you ready to go? You can lead the way if that's okay, since you probably know this backwards state better than me." John looked around to see what else they might need. "Well, except for the groceries this is it. I'll just grab the power bars and drinks, I think we can leave the rest. Unless you like meats roasting in the back seat?" When they walked out of the door with the last things Bernie walked out with them. John had only met the dog in Paradise, but he wouldn't dare leaving him behind. Holding open the door the dog jumped in.

"Okay, I'll drive to Sam's for now. I thought we could maybe sell one of the cars when we pass through Cleveland. Maybe to someone on the way to NY? The Mogs could fall for it, don't you think?" He waited for her to respond. "I don't think we need two cars, especially when we will be taking things to Canada." He started the car and quickly drove to Sam's place. "You know, it might be better to use my pick up instead of this car. It has more space and is just the tiniest bit less conspicuous than this thing."

Sam was waiting for them with the bags already in the car. John got out of the car with Bernie following him. "Sam, you can get in the car with Ashley. Ah, don't look so nervous, 1 hour ago you had more questions for her than you ever asked me." He looked in the back of the pick up to make sure the small Loric box was there. After that he got in the car and drove past the Chevelle slowly to indicate Sam could follow him. Well Canada, apparently, here we come.

The next two hours or so were quite boring. Bernie had seemingly fallen asleep on John's lap and he could feel the dog's soft breathing. They were about 10 miles out of Cleveland when John felt he needed to take a leak. He put on his indicator to the next gas station. Counting on Sam not sleeping behind the wheel he took the turn and waiting for his companions to follow him. He parked the car in the parking lot and waited for them to pull up next to him. He stepped out of the car leaving Bernie to sleep inside. Maybe they would be able to sell one of the cars in this place, although they'd need to be lucky enough to have a buyer at hand.

Number six scoffed at the idea of selling her car. She had grown quite fond of her classic Chevelle, and happened to think it was much more appealing than Number Four's old pick-up truck.

After they made their way to Sam's house Ashely would notice the boy walking towards her car.
"Uh, John said I should ride with you."
Ashley would throw her bag into the passenger seat and cross her arms atop the wheel. "Yeah, I don't think so. I suggest you get in the back of his truck before he notices....try laying down, he might not see you that way."
Her tone was sarcastic but she meant what she said, she wanted to ride alone.

As soon as Number Four pulled out of the yard Ashley would follow closely behind him.

Driving alone gave Number Six some time to think about the past several hours, from her success at finally finding another Loric child to her unfortunate encounter with the three Mogs.
"They're going to be on our tails as soon as tomorrow." she'd say to herself. "Lets just hope we can throw them off."

After a while the sound of nothing but wind grew boring, and Ashley would turn on the radio. It took next to no time before she was singing along with the tracks playing out over the airways and time began to fly by.

Several miles outside of Cleveland Ashely would notice John turn on his flasher, and she'd follow him as he turned into the gas station.
After Number Four left his truck to use the bathroom Ashley would grab her bag, go invisible, and then make her way inside the gas station behind a family of four. With ease she picked up several more snacks, drinks, and random supplies before walking out behind a couple and making her way back towards her car. However when she notices a small group of teenage boys around it she quickly ducked behind a dumpster to become visible again before approaching them.

"Uh, can I help you?" she'd ask with a tinge of annoyance in her tone as she threw her bag into the vehicle's open passenger window.
"Woah, is this your car??" one of the boys asked, before all three of them began to shower her in questions about the vehicle. She'd answer a few before growing too annoyed to bother responding anymore.
Thankfully the boys mother would walk over and pull the threesome away from her and her car before she completely blew a casket.

"Okay, I guess Four has a point then." she'd mutter as she sat on the hood of her car - waiting for John to return. When he did she'd jump down onto the pavement and walk over towards him.
"So, I was going to argue with you about the selling my car thing, since lets be honest - yours looks like crap and mine is pretty awesome, but with mine being so awesome it kinda attracts too much attention so...."
Ashley would turn around and look at the various businesses on the main road they were parked beside before spotting a small used car dealership that she'd quickly point to.
"....I'm going to go see how much they'll give me for this baby. Meet you back in this area? Just stay close so I can find you and this hunk of junk when I'm done."
Number Six smirked as she tapped the side of John's truck and then made her way around to the trunk of her Chevelle.
Within a couple minutes she'd have the trunk unpacked onto the pavement.
"Your buddy is gonna have to move from the bed to the cab though, since this computer equipment is going to require we use that bed cover he's probably using as a pillow."
Six knew Four had no idea his friend was in the bed of the truck, but sure enough as she opened the truck bed there laid Sam, asleep, using the folded leather truck bed cover as a pillow.
Ashley would climb into the truck and tug on the bed cover until Sam woke up and let go of it. "Rise and shine sweetheart, you're gonna have to move to the cab so I can put all this stuff back here."
Number Six would wait for Sam to climb out before waving Number Four over to help her load the computer equipment into the truck bed and then cover said bed with the leather cover.
"Okay I'll be right back"

Ashley hopped in the Chevelle and made her way over to the small used car dealership. She barely made it outside of her car before she was approached by a slightly obese man with a shit eating grin on his face. Before he began to feed her some sales pitch she'd explain to him what she was here for, and after looking the car over the man offered her 4100 bucks, causing Ashely to laugh
"Okay look, I'm in a rush and have no time for games, so lets just cut to the chase."
Six would spend the next couple of minutes running down the specs of the car and a well thought out list of reasons behind why she should get at the bare minimum - ten thousand dollars.
The dealer was reluctant to say the least, but Number Six's gift of gab was better than his, and by the end of their conversation Ashley would walk away with $11,000, a used Yamaha motorcycle, and a pair of helmets - one of which Ashley would attach snugly to the back of the bike before putting the other one over her head. "Well it was a pleasure doing business with you!" she teased, before hoping on the bike and taking off.

She wouldn't have to go far before spotting what she was almost positive was John's truck.
"Hey!" she called out as she pulled up next to the truck. "Cold hard cash and this bike, I call that a nice trade!" she joked after pulling off the helmet.

It was getting dark out and in all honesty Ashley was tired, but she knew they couldn't stop here, they had to keep going for Cleveland was too obvious of a choice to stop at.
"Ashtabula is only an hour away, once there we can relax under the guise of tourism."

Ashley sat back on her new motorcycle and held onto her helmet for a moment, waiting for either John to speak or for the truck to once again begin leading the way.

When John saw Ashley pulling up net to him he indicated to her that he needed to use the facilities. "Maybe we should get something to eat as well, unless your still full from the pizza's of course." He looked in Ashley's car to see if he could catch a glimpse of Sam, but the guy must have been sleeping as John didn't see him sitting up. He walked to the bathrooms and saw it wasn't needed to get a key from the shop, as was the case with many other gas stations. The moment he got inside he could also see why no key was needed, it didn't seem to be more than a few holes in the ground separated by small pieces of wood. Like I have any interest in watching another guy pee...

He saw he was not the only one, and by smell he could tell the other people in there were not cleaners. According to male unspoken custom he chose the hole furthest away from any of the other occupants. While doing his business he noticed the other people were finishing up. He was engrossed when they didn't wash their hands, but a minute later when he saw the water that came out of the taps he decided to skip them as well. John looked up and walked to the door where he found his way blocked by a big burly guy. "Excuse me.." he said as he sidestepped to get past the man. The man stood as a rock. "I'll get out of your way when you give me your cash. If not your not gonna leave for a while." John wasn't feeling up to this. It had been an eventful day, and an even more eventful week. He knew anything he would say now would be met with the same reaction. John was considerably smaller than the overgrown bully and the fact that John had inhuman powers was not written on his forehead. John was a sure chance, a done deal.

John didn't want to waste any time on him, it was time to move on to their destination. Before the man realized John's fist was going upwards towards the square jaw. With a force greater than that of a normal 20 year old he knocked the man out. Half falling down John grabbed him by his collar and swung him to the side so he wouldn't block the door. Although he didn't move, the man's chest was going up and down signing he was alive and well. He opened the door and walked out of the bathroom. A next person was ready to enter, but John put his hand on the man's chest. "Trust me, I would give it a few minutes." Without waiting for a reply he walked back to the car, silently hoping Ashey got him a soda.

When he was back at the cars Six walked towards him with an unhappy grimace on her face. "So, I was going to argue with you about the selling my car thing, since lets be honest - yours looks like crap and mine is pretty awesome, but with mine being so awesome it kinda attracts too much attention so...." John started to smile at her poor attempt to admit he was right. "Well, thank you for calling my car crap, that's a very nice thing to do..." She didn't hear him, or at least didn't acknowledge his statement and continued herself. "....I'm going to go see how much they'll give me for this baby. Meet you back in this area? Just stay close so I can find you and this hunk of junk when I'm done." John replied that he wouldn't move an inch until she got back.

He started helping unpacking the trunk of Ashley's car onto the pavement. He got confused when she started talking about Sam. Where was he in any case? He learned quickly where Sam was as Six opened the truck and Sam was shown laying there asleep, probably cold as ice. With a look of absolute disgust John had to look as a still half asleep and struggling Sam was exiting the truck. "That wasn't necessary, Ashley." he said resolute, although she didn't take any notice of it. John handed Sam the keys to the truck. "Can you help out with Bernie? Don't go too far, we might need to leave quickly." Six signed for John to help out with the equipment again. He handed it to her and she placed it carefully in the truck. As she covered the back with the leather cover she said she would be right back.

It only took about 5 minutes for Sam to come back still rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. John tried to laugh it off, "Just go and continue your sleep in the front. And Sam, next time somebody tries to mess you around, just don't let them, especially if it's me. Sam half nodded and took a seat in the passengers seat. Bernie came and laid down at John's feet. He bent down a bit and rubbed the dog's head for a bit, waiting for Ashley to come back.

When she did come back she did so on a motorcycle, looking quite pleased with herself. "Cold hard cash and this bike, I call that a nice trade!" John had to admit there wouldn't hve been a lot of people that could pull off what she just did. Just as John wanted to speak Ashley took the words out of his mouth. "Ashtabula is only an hour away, once there we can relax under the guise of tourism." As he saw her sitting back on her motorcycle he opened the door to the drivers seat. Bernie jumped in and laid its head on Sam, who had also fallen asleep again. He leaned over the roof of his truck in order to address Ashley before they continued. "Mind if I lead the way again. I'm afraid that if you go in front I'll lose you within 10 minutes." He entered a pause, still doubting if he should say what he was about to say. Would it even have any effect on her? "One more thing, don't be so hard on Sam. He has more to bring to this than you realize at this moment. Finding Sam's father would give the answers to many of my, and possibly your, questions... I'll see you in Ashtabula." With that he got in the car and closed the door.

He started the car and as he did Bernie looked up for one moment. John looked at his dog and suddenly had the idea that his dog knew exactly what was going on. Shaking it off he turned on his indicator and drove back to the highway. For the time of the day it was very busy on the road. Every now and than John checked his mirror to see if Ashley was still following, which seemed to be the case. As she had said before it only took them about an hour before they arrived in the small town that was their destination for the day. He continued driving until he saw a sign for a motel somewhere near the town centre. John knocked Sam in the shoulder. "Wake up, we're here." He parked again next to the motel and got out of the car. Both John and Sam got out of the car and waited for Ashley to show up. "So, John, what is our guise as tourists? Two brothers and their sister?" John laughed and turned towards his travel partner. "Haha, it would work, if it were not that we don't look anything alike, none of us." Maybe Ashley has a nice idea, she seems to have more experience in this.

"Mind if I lead the way again. I'm afraid that if you go in front I'll lose you within 10 minutes."
Ashley shook her head "no" before kicking the bike's kickstand back an revving the engine. "Have at it."
"One more thing..." John began, as she placed the helmet down in-between her legs and started to braid her hair into a ponytail. "....don't be so hard on Sam. He has more to bring to this than you realize at this moment. Finding Sam's father would give the answers to many of my, and possibly your, questions... I'll see you in Ashtabula."
Before she could respond Number Four closed the door and started up his engine, causing Ashley to sigh and roll her eyes in frustration.

The ride to Ashtabula was rather uneventful, with the only bit of fun occurring when Ashley purposely dropped far behind John's pick-up and then nearly hit 100 to catch up.

Once inside the city limits of Ashtabula Ashley slowed way down and followed Number Four's truck into the parking lot of a small bed and breakfast.
"Isn't this adorable" she'd joke to herself as she slid her helmet off, got off her new bike, and kicked the stand down onto the ground.
She reached John's pick-up shorty after him and Sam stepped outside of it.
"So, looks like we made it with no tails - seeing as how there was barely anyone passing by or behind us the since the gas station. Six began as she walked over towards the two. "Now since we both have the same last name we basically have two options when it comes to a cover story for this little town, you're my hubby or brother. Both of those options are kinda weird and uncomfortable, but the former is worst than the latter so - brother it is. As for you..." Ashley would switch her gaze to Sam and shrug shoulders, as a genuine look of befuddlement appeared on her face. "...I don't know, maybe you two could be lovers?"
Number Six almost immediately erupted into laughter as she took a step back from them and looked up towards the Inn's sign that read; "Martha's"
"I'm kidding, I guess, yeah....brothers it is I suppose."

Ashely was still snickering to herself as she jogged up the wooden steps and into the old house-turned-inn.
She was quickly greeted by a warm older couple and she'd manage a smile before asking for a room.

Luckily for them there was one room that had just become available a few hours ago, and after showing the woman a fake ID and engaging in some small talk Ashley would pay for a four days and three nights.
After receiving the key to the room Ashley waved John and Sam to follow. It was then, when she saw Bernie, that she backtracked to the front desk and instantly began to plea with the couple to let them bring the dog into the hotel. But Ashley quickly realized the pleading was completely unnecessary when the older man pointed to a "Pet Friendly. 50lbs and under" sign behind the desk.
"Oh nice!" she'd say in relief, before making her way over towards the steps and up to the third floor.

Their room, 3B, was rather easy to find, and once inside Ashley would throw her keys down on the couch and then flop down on one of the two Queen-Sized beds.
"This totally beats the back of a Chevelle any day!"

Hey,
If you're reading this - thanks for stopping by!

Seeing how this is a 1x1, the OOC thread for "I Am Number Four" probably won't be used much - if at all, but I thought I'd say Hello anyways! :)

Feel free to follow along with us once we start writing and chat here about the RP if you'd like, though I rarely ever people chat on others 1x1's....so that would interestingly awsm if that happened here? lol xD
