personality

Montgomery would never hurt a fly even if his life depended on it. Growing up, he was the silent vigilante who released all the class pets out into the wild, because he wanted them to be free. His mother insisted that there was never a mean bone in the poor boy's body. As he grew older that somewhat changed. However, once he acquired his power, Monty has only used it to help, not to hurt.

Montgomery was always observant of others, and preferred to stick back on his heels and watch, instead of engage. Granted, he still loved to chat with his peers, but you could never pick him out from a crowd. Monty doesn't hate the spotlight, but he doesn't love it either. He is not shy, or afraid to speak his mind, he just finds comfort in solitude.

Monty has also always been very patient with others. Especially from dealing with so many unruly individuals he understands the need for someone to take time to go over something, and he has always been very good at giving people the time they need. He has a rather strong ability to not push others to their limits or push their buttons, but rather make them feel comfortable. A known skill for patients, people just tend to feel comfortable even safe around Monty just due to his helpful and kindred nature.

When it comes to his friends he is always very kind and understanding of the others, often being the sole mediator of the arguments as he always tried to see things through an unfiltered lens. While he is a very caring individual, he's still human and ever so often just has to take a break from the bustling world around him. This has led him to have little episodes of 'brooding' to where he's not necessarily stubborn in nature but rather distant from others. He never means it in a malicious way or even intends it to happen, he almost just loses a bit of his personality. In a way, he almost retreats back into his shell (especially when he fails) and closes himself off to others.

Everything has always been rather straightforward for Monty, even after learning of his true father. It was all thought out and executed. He was always one to carefully plan out everything, instead of jumping into a situation blindly. Saying that Monty doesn't relish in the idea of risk and adventure is a stretch but he believes that there are times when things need to be handled in a constructive manner.

abilities
PARENTAGE | Asclepius, Greek God of Medicine
VITAKINESIS | Montgomery possesses the power of Vitakinesis or the manipulation of the bodies health and its condition. Monty can manipulate healing and the healing process, speeding any or all aspects of healing to the point of regenerating, or slowing and blocking healing. Montgomery can not only can heal others but himself as well. At first he was capable of basic healing, having successfully healed broken bones, severe burns and even a mortal stab wound through the chest. He can also use his powers to harm others, to cause different types of illnesses, reopening an old wound on a body, and organ failure. Although he has never tried to do this. Though the he may potentially heal any form of bodily damage, the person must be alive, even if hanging by a thin thread, in order to be healed; once the patient has died his powers are useless.

As for limitations go Monty's are quite distasteful. For one, he can only heal someone by touch, he can't heal a person's wounds from far away or even if he stands right next to them. There has to be contact or his powers won't work. Another is that Montgomery heals others through wound transferal, which means the wounds of those he heals are then inflicted on himself. Most of the time this doesn't prove to be a large problem because things such as cuts, broken bones, and generally small wounds are quickly healed by his own regenerative powers. However, larger wounds take him longer to heal which prove to be difficult and painful process for himself, but that never stops him from helping someone. Just because Monty can heal doesn't mean he's immune to the idea of pain, although his pain tolerance is quite high from having to stomach himself through so much of it.

MEDICAL INTUITION | Of course, Monty hasn't gone through the 13 or so years of Medical School but the boy could probably perform open heart surgery. Montgomery has great, if not innate, medical knowledge, enabling him to easily treat others' injuries and create medicines. He is also able to tell which things in the wild (or in one’s kitchen) are poisonous and which are safe to ingest or to use to treat injuries. Monty can also sense the health of anyone and the causes of wounds, diseases or injuries, the health history and possibly even genetic weaknesses and predispositions that a person may contain. Much like patient file's are stored in his mind.
MEDICINE MANIPULATION | His least practiced and most puzzling ability, Montgomery can manipulate different types of medicines. Currently he can use this ability to make man-made medicines more powerful such as over the counter pain or cold medicine.

character
STRENGTHS | Monty is especially skilled at healing others, even without his powers. His mother's advice has led him to be quite smart and adaptable to high-stress situations. Working under pressure is a complete breeze for Montgomery and he has never had a problem with it. Again, Monty is also a very caring and patient person which leads him to be a stable friend and companion for others, he is a person that is easy to trust and rely on. Monty is also just all around a very hard worker.
WEAKNESSES | Monty is selfless, he'll do anything to protect those he cares about and will lay anything down to protect them. He'll run into the middle of chaos just to save someone's life no matter the consequences upon himself. He'll also never turn down the chance to heal someone even if the pain is unbearable. Montgomery is all too open-hearted and trusting when it comes to strangers. He always believes the best and people and this can sometimes be a problem. Monty by no means is strong, in the physical sense and most definitely wouldn't win a physical fight if he was up against someone else.
FEARS | Montgomery is afraid that there will come a day when it's too late for him to save someone. It's quite possibly his biggest fear and worry. Monty is also terrified of confined spaces, this comes from a rather traumatic experience from his child. When he was little his older brother, Luis, trapped him in a little cupboard for about two hours until their parents came home. He had nightmares about the experience for months and the fear has stuck with him since childhood.

background

Montgomery was born to a very large and close family in Boston, made up mostly of Irish Immigrants and Americans. The Ellis's were a very tight-knit group of people, who loved family time more than anyone. He grew up believing his whole life that his family was normal. His mother, Emma was a Cardiologist and his father, Peter was a nurse. Monty was the youngest of two brothers and two sisters, making him the most vulnerable to their constant pestering and bullying. This made him closer to his mother and father rather than his siblings. It was a rather loud and annoying household for the majority of his life unfortunately for Monty who always enjoyed the quiet side of life.

At a young age however, he was very interested in the medical field as both his parents were very involved. Strangely enough, Montgomery was a natural. He soaked up the information his mother presented him with like a sponge and she believed at age fourteen he could've performed surgery - blindfolded. He was truly a spectacle, and will his father was overjoyed at their prodigy, he could sense the unease on his mother.

It wasn't until his sixteenth birthday that his mother broke down and confessed to him that Peter wasn't his true father. She had met a young and intelligent doctor from Hartford back when her marriage was struggling and she messed up. Of course, Emma never told Peter Monty wasn't her child and begged her son not to tell. Monty's relationship became extremely strained after hearing he was the product of her affair and fell into a period of depression. He stopped attending school and his grades dropped significantly. It was then that he became sick, at first it seemed like a common cold but then he couldn't keep anything down and his body was wracked with chills and fever. Monty was taken to the hospital and after numerous tests no doctor could seem to find the cause.

After weeks in the hospital, Monty was awoken at night to see a doctor beside his bed. It was no doctor that he had ever seen before. Monty then went on to have the craziest conversation of his life. The man wasn't just a doctor, he was the doctor. Asclepius, the Greek God of Medicine. Oh, and Monty's father. He was soon healed with brief touch of his father's hand to his forehead and given advice. Reconcile with his mother and hone to his abilities. So during his recovery days, Monty did as his father asked. He forgave his mother and began looking into options for schooling eventually coming upon Icarus. He guised the school as one for the exceptionally gifted and after begin his mother has been enrolled since.

So begins...

Astrid glanced up from where she sat tortiously poking at her food as if to make it appear that she had actually ate something on her plate. For the first time in a few months the Mess Hall seemed happy - normal. There were smiles upon the faces of the other students and it seemed as if they too were cherishing their last moments at the Academy. How morbid. It had been a few days since Headmistress Galarius announced that one of their sister academies in the states had been attacked, it was the sixth one this month. One by one safe havens for demigods were slowly being picked from the Earth like ripe fruit from a tree. It was only a matter of time before Icarus joined the list. If the academies and camps being attacked were not worse enough, the line to the Gods had seemingly been shut off. Astrid hadn’t heard from her father since early March, and she’d be lying if she told herself it had not been slowly eating away at her. Just in the past few years her relationship with Thor had slowly begun to grow, and their chats soon became something of a weekly ordeal to Astrid’s enjoyment. She was grateful for her father’s interest as some Gods weren’t so interested in the lives of their children. It was then when Astrid approached Headmistress demanding they do something - it was a very Astrid thing to do. At that point, doing anything other than be sitting ducks would be beneficial in her mind. Of course it took some convincing, Galarius wasn’t just going to send her students to certain death. Thankfully, Astrid was able to ask around and recruit some of her fellow senior classmates with the help of Headmistress - a few choice ones she would’ve left out if it was her choice but Galarius insisted. And so here they were. There last night at Icarus for possibly, forever. Headmistress had taken the chosen few aside, she had arranged for a pilot to take them to Trondheim, Norway in the morning. In which the gateway to Asgard resided. She believed it best if they tried seeking out the Norse realm first as they seemed the most attached to their children. Not to mention it was the closest gate to the world of the Gods from the academy. The idea of a “rescue mission” seemed to give hope to the students left at the Academy and the group had been treated like heroes for the past week after Headmistress announced their mission at the weekly assembly. More than anything Astrid felt as if she was being pampered for her forthcoming death. So forgive her for not exactly being thrilled at their “going away” dinner. “You alright?” She glanced up to the soft voice from across the table. Abel. Perhaps the smartest boy she knew. Astrid suddenly felt a small wave of relief as she realized he was going with, they were going to need that brain of his. “Yeah, just not a big fan of… pork She said with an awkward smile in an attempt to not spill the nervous thoughts that racked her brain. A small wave of confusion wiped over Abel’s face before a small smile settled on it. As if he sensed that she didn’t really want to talk about it. Then again, who knows maybe he was just as terrified as she was.

Abel was. Terrified to say the absolute least. When Galarius approached him with the task he turned her down flat. There were better places for him to be than saving the world, the library for one. He was sure not meant to be on an elite force of demigods that was for sure. Abel couldn’t hold a sword like he could hold a pen and parchment. However, it was something that Galarius said that stuck with him for the next few days. Eating away at his conscious. “Graham, there's nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be”. Damnit. He wasn’t a warrior, he was a scholar. But. What if they had hieroglyphs they couldn’t read? A monster they didn’t know how to kill? Some live-saving mathematical equation? Which they probably wouldn’t but still. He could solve it. So here he was, sitting at the table surrounded by warriors, a qualified team that he definitely didn’t belong to. Thankfully, Headmistress took the stand and distracted him from his thoughts as he focused in as the noise in the mess hall died down. “Students, as you know tonight we say goodbye and goodluck to our best students and our bravest heroes. May you be victorious in your journey and find that you cannot complete these tasks alone, that you will need to share each others strengths to succeed. Καλὴ τύχη!” The students raised their glass repeating back the greek phrase for good luck, Καλὴ τύχη. It was then that the windows in the mess hall simultaneously exploded and all hell broke loose.

Gwendolyn sat poised at the head of the table quieter than her normal self. The girl with confidence like reinforced steel wasn't used to faltering. Not even her strawberry salad - a favorite - relieved the nerves of her stomach. She could just hear her mother now, Good gods girl - get that nasty look off your face you're going to give yourself wrinkles. Gwen wasn't used to not fitting in, and she imagined her face was red with embarrassment watching the others converse amongst themselves. Why of all people had Headmistress asked her to join? What good would a child of Venus be on a demigod-saving mission? She could just sense the ridicule now. In all honestly Gwen wasn't entirely sure as to why she ended up agreeing in the first place. Maybe curiosity, or maybe she couldn't bear to see Jeremiah do this without her. He was one of the few at the Academy that didn't resent her existence. If anything she just wanted to prove herself, that she truly just wasn't a pretty face. But the longer she sat at the table the more she began to wonder if it was true.

Headmistress's speech was nothing more than a blur and Gwen found herself mumbling "Καλὴ τύχη" along with the rest of her classmates. That was until her shrill scream filled the air as the room practically exploded. She instantly ducked beneath the table gripping the leg of the table with all her might. Gwen squeezed her eyes shut as the sound of screams and horrible squawks filled the air. It was nothing less than a nightmare.

What was she doing? Cowering underneath the table like a first year. The girl would clearly be no help to anyone if she acted like a frightened mouse every time they faced danger. Still, her fear crippled her and it took all her might to peek out from under the table to see the disaster up above. Harpies. Hideous creatures. Even if she dozed off for the majority of her Monstrology class she'd recognize the ugly, oversized chickens anywhere.

Her eyes focused back to the table in front of her and she just caught a rather large Harpy spitting out a crumpled blue mess of what she once assumed were lovely hyacinths. Jem. She would've whooped to congratulate her friend on besting the creature (Jem and her related on the fact that children of goddesses of flowers and beauty weren't known for their combat prowess) only to realize that this instead made him the bird's target. The ugly thing reared its feathers and charged at him and Gwendolyn only had a few moments to react.

She picked up the nearest thing she could, the plate holding her dearest strawberry salad and chucked it at the Harpy like her life depended on it. "Eat this bird-brain!" She really needed to work on her insults. Surprisingly enough, the plate landed its target perfectly smashing into the face of the Harpy who happened to glance in her direction at just the perfect time. Unfortunately for Gwen, she just started perhaps the most frightening game of 'Tag you're It'. The bird shook its head out of daze and charged down the table in her direction. She screamed, tumbling back in her seat holding her hands up in front of her face - if she was going to get mauled by a freaky Big Bird she might as well try and save her face. The Harpy finally reached the edge of the table and leered at her, rearing back an ugly claw ready to rip her to shreds. As it brought down it's claw she clenched her eyes shut, and screamed again - both out of fright and out of a last ditch effort. "Stop!"

Gwendolyn waited. And waited. But the claw never came down. And after she finally had the nerve to slowly open her eyes she was shocked to see the Harpy - completely frozen in place. It took only a few moments to realize what she had done. Gwendolyn had charmspoke her way out of near death.

Monty was still packing. Not clothes - supplies. Medicine, sutures, his lovely stethoscope given to him by his father, and more medicine. When Astrid approached him asking for help there was no question as to why. She knew that there was a great probability of one of them getting hurt and better him there then no-one. He would be lying to himself if he said he wasn't a little bit grateful Astrid had approached him with the offer. Senior year dawning on him had become quiet nerve-racking. Icarus was his home, and had been for the last few years and without it - what was he? The most probable thing for him to do would be to go to Medical School like his mother. While that seemed like the most obvious answer to his future he still couldn't help but feel unsure. Isn't that what he wanted to do with his life?

His thoughts of the future were abruptly brought to an end however when what he assumed was an explosion came from the mess hall. He scrambled to his feet grabbing his bo staff from his closet. It was no secret that Monty was plain terrible at combat, but in the last few months he had been working on some self-defense training with Astrid. The girl was nice enough to offer him help and not to mention she was a terrific sparring partner.

Staff in hand he dashed out of his room and down the long hallway that led from the dormitories to the student lounge then to the Mess Hall. And a mess it was. The second he opened the door to the large space he had to duck down to avoid the claws of - of a harpy? It only took him a few moments to assess the situation at hand, they were under attack. The dreaded demigod curse had finally reached Icarus.

Monty wasted no time in helping as he reached for a cowering student using a chair to shield herself from the ongoing attack. She had a nasty gash in her cheek and Montgomery assumed it had come from the claw of a Harpy. Laceration to the left cheek, heart rate 120, blood pressure 122/74. It was as if a chart had slowly begun to write itself in his mind. He crouched down next to the scared student her eyes wide as saucers, she must've been no older than a second year, and placed a hand over hers. "Hey, listen I'm going to help you okay? I just need you to stay still and take deep breaths with me alright?" He said as calmly as possible amidst the chaos going on around them. His mother would always tell him a distressed patient was never good for the healing process. She nodded slowly and followed his instructions trying to level out her breathing. Montgomery gave her a reassuring smile and after a moment squeezed her hand and closed his eyes. Healing others was always the strangest sensation, and never pleasant. He gritted his teeth as he felt his cheek slowly tear open - mimicking the girls wound. When he finally opened his eyes aside from the girls shocked expression he was grateful to see her cheek was no completely free of any marks or cuts, save for some dried blood where the gash was. He didn't have time to explain to her what had occurred and when he told her to go back to her room she stared at him for a few moments before dashing out the door of the mess hall.

Montgomery could already feel the cut on his cheek begin to heal as he turned back to the chaos around him. He noticed the others (their rag-tag group of heroes) at the table in the front of the Mess Hall battling a particular nasty group of Harpies. He dashed across the room, ducking and dodging the awaiting claws of the monsters sliding into place near Astrid and Ophelia. Not even sparing a greeting his eyes fell to the gash along Ophelia's shoulder and arm. "Ophelia, one got you pretty good didn't they? Let me help" He said extending out his arm for her to take.
