Six children once made up a magical world, and magical creature friends. Ten years have passed, and now that world wants them back.

Introduction

“"Power, time, gravity, love. The forces that really kick ass are all invisible."”
― David Mitchell, Cloud Atlas

Six

Six young kids once played together, the best of friends. They were young, and their imaginations were uninhibited, and their games mainly concerned both their made up world, and their own imaginary friends.

They had such wonderful adventures then, with their six imaginary companions following too.

But, like all children, they grew up, and most of them forgot about their games.

They also ended up growing apart. Each fell into different crowds and stopped talking. As they reached the age of seventeen, none had had anything to do with one another.

But they had something in common. They were having nightmares. Terrible nightmares that were keeping them awake at night, of the characters they semi-remembered, but twisted into terrible mockeries of their former selves, set out to torment them.

One sets about to reunite the six of them together in order to face this threat, these would bring the six back to Otherworld, their imaginary realm...all now frighteningly and dangerously real.

The Imaginaries are creatures borne of the dreams of people. They are bonded to their creators, and seek to protect them and help them. Imaginaries come in all sorts of forms, though often will gradually change to match their human. They are visible to all in Otherworld, but outside it are only visible to their human, and those they choose to reveal themselves to...if the humans wishes them to be there. They can only remain in the real world if willed to.

In Otherworld, Imaginaries are powerful, like nobility even. They have powers, and when they work together with their creator they can accomplish wondrous things..

The bond between a human and an Imaginary is what allows them to survive. If the human creator forgets entirely about their Imaginary the Imaginary will die. Because of this, most will eventually take a dark turn. As their creator begins to forget about them, still bonded to their Human, their affection would gradually turn into a possessive hatred, a desperation to have their human back combined with a deep and terrible contempt towards them. Their mind would alter, and so would their body, getting more twisted and terrible.

Like a star burning out its last it would become enormously powerful, able to reach into the real world and take their human back with them...forever.

Otherworld is the world that Imaginaries and other creatures inhabit. It was borne from the imaginations of the Six and was the setting for all their games. In the ten years it has been neglected, left to fall into corruption, and the wicked creatures that they once fought in their stories had gotten a foothold in the absence, as each imaginary became a monster.

It is divided into seven realms, six being home to each Imaginary, and one in the centre, on that has gotten a new owner. The new King of Otherworld. The realms reflect the Imaginary they represent and as such differ greatly, and all but one are rotten and dark.

Six young people who had once been the closest friends. Having lived on the same street, they had spent all their summers playing in a forest next to their houses. They promised back then that they would stay friends for ever and ever, but things don't always turn out as planned. They still go to the same school as one another, but they don't talk a lot. Some even vehemently dislike one another.

1 - The Believer - Female - TAKEN

A rather strange girl. Socially awkward, no friends... always seeming to daydream. Her actions were often bizarre, though particularly in recent months.

The Believer never gave up on their friend. She never stopped believing in Otherworld, and as such her imaginary never made the same turn as the others. Unfortunately however this.. has problems as her own link has made her first in the line of fire, and she is unable to protect herself and her own companion.

Helena planted her feet, the divided toes of her boots sliding across the marshy ground as she held the blade up as a guard across her chest.

Something slithered around in the fog, just out of sight, undulating slate coloured coils coated in a layer of slime. It attempted to shift behind her, and with a sudden lunged shot forwards, two pairs of eyes and snapping jaws making for one of her legs.

The blade sliced downwards impacting at the top of its neck, slicing through scales and bone, causing it to shriek and convulse, wriggling around the blade in a disgusting arc that threw bits into her face and made her cringe. Only as the thrashing ceased and the water began to tint an unnatural hue did she place a foot on top of it and tear her sword free.

Clearing the blade off with a cloth she returned it to the covering on her back, and continued to walk. After continuing for some way, her senses wired up for any sort of sound or motion in the mists, she hit a patch of moss. Her foot slipped and she collapsed forward into a pool of deep water. Helena splashed, coughed, reaching out to try and find a handhold but she was being pulled downward, something catching her foot.

Dammit dammit dammit.

Someone was calling. A noise in the distance. Getting closer-

"Helena! It's eight thirty, get a move on!"

The young woman pulled her head up from the pillow, falling onto her back and giving a truncated groan, her bright red hair spread round her like the tentacles of some beached see creature. She remained there for a moment, trying to acclimatize to the bed over the dark marsh-ground, before looking over at the small, stuffed toy next to her, a very old stuffed wolf plush, most of its white fur worn down with contact, one eye blue, the other replaced by a red button.
-"Today is the day." she told it.
-"Today we're going to get them, right? It cannot carry on."

Her room was untidy at best. Books strewn across the floor and on a borken shelf at one wall. Stuffed animals all over the place, and heaps of drawings, maps, notes and assorted material relating to...her work.

Pulling herself to her feet, Helena Norrevinter stumbled out into the bathroom, showering off the imaginary mud and snake-slime from her body, before returning to dry her hair off and get some clothes. An aubergine skirt, indigo leggings, sheepskin boots, and an over-sized sweater of an indisputable level of ugliness were pulled on, and a messenger bag was fished out of a pile of stuff, allowing a small hollow for her toy to sit in with its head out.

Ready to face the day. As much as she faced real world days.

Twenty minutes later, thanks to a ride from her mother, She made her way through the front gate of the school, with bad, toy, and a blank expression. She spent a lot of time at school staring into space. Mostly, planning. Trying to set out the moves for the next night. Wondering where she might get dropped. At least she had woken up before drowning in the marsh. But she knew eventually she was not going to be able to rely on that. They wanted to trap them there... and it was going to be Helena who got that before any of them. So...

"We have to get them back." the young woman mused as she walked.
"Reunite the group. They can turn things back."

CRASH!

" Schizoid." laughed a group of kids, after they knocked River's books from her hands as she was making her way toward. The tiny girl only reached down gathering her books in a neat pile as they teased her some more. "I heard she went nuts and killed a bunch of people, but couldn't remember any of it that's why they let her go." said a blonde girl with too much make up. "I heard she was kidnapped and killed the guy that did it." said boy with enough product in his hair to fill a hole in a dam.

River tried to ignore them as she gathered her books, clutching them closely to her chest. With her head down she tried to walk by them but they blocked her path.
"Hey, are you bulimic? You are skinny." said another girl, pinching River's arm.
River winced. "Please stop." She said quietly as she tried to maneuver out of the way.
"What's that, Psycho?" said the boy, pushing her back against her locker.
"Is that what the mental hospital gave you to wear?" said the blonde girl. "Because you must be crazy to wear something like that?" They all laughed.
River was dressed in a cream knit dress, that hung just below her knees, a long pink tank top underneath and her favorite brown riding boots. River was really skinny but not due to lack of eating, she just was. "Excuse me, I have to get to class." she whispered as another girl grabbed her hair. "Ew, Why is your hair all stringy, two words, Shampoo and Conditioner." They all laughed again. River pulled her head away, getting fidgety. She reached in to the messenger bag she wore and fumbled for her medication. "Oh, Psycho needs her meds!" Said another boy, bleach blonde. He snatched her bag from her and dug inside, finding the medication bottle. "Whoa, I can't even pronounced this." He laughed, the blonde girl grabbed the bottle from. River started to panic. "I need those, please give them back!" she cried, tears and sweat brimming her eyes and moistening her cheeks. "If you can catch them!" The blonde girl shouted, and the began playing 'hot potato' with her medication. River whimpered, trying to catch the bottle, but to no avail as voice slowly began to emerge from the silence in her head.

Xander

The sun forever rose higher into the sky, the giant energy source pulsating, pushing and pulling through the atmosphere. As Xander washed behind his ears and scrubbed away the dirt, his ears perked up slowly to a rustle in the bushes. Setting his spear down against a tree, he got down, chest to the ground and ears pointed.

Rustle rustle... The bushes only a few feet ahead flickered this way and that.

It was time for breakfast...

A sharp grin overrides Xander's face as his eyes flickered to a pure white, his spine bending, curling forward, as he shifted into his wolf form. His paws glided across the grass as he slipped towards the bushes...

rustle...

As Xander was pulled closer towards the sounds, he paused for a moment, his eyes trailing ahead, and a scent hitting his nose.

Hunters.

Xander's eyes widened as two centaurs, armed in plated silver rushed out of the bushes, bow and arrows at the ready.

"Surrender now, and we won't hurt you," The first one spoke, his hoof denting into the ground with rage, "Run, and we have every reason to shoot you where you're standing, mutt." His iris eyes bore into Xander's soul and a snarl ripped from Xander's throat, no way was he giving in now. Lena wouldn't, why should he?

Spinning on his heel, Xander darted back towards the stream, arrows flying past his head as he zipped through the trees. As he neared the river, he curled his back legs and launched himself over to the other side of the river bank and quickly staked out underneath some bushes for a moment.

Closing his eyes, he began to see a light filling his closed eyelids, his energies around him pulsating, his body becoming a vessel, allowing the land's energies to pass through him at a high frequency. His silver body began to vibrate immensely and suddenly his energies split into five different power sources, all forming into silver wolves, replicating his exact structure.

"MOVE!" He howled to the spirits, as he heard the Centaur's hooves pounding against the ground and the replicas split off into every direction, as Xander continued to hide in the bushes, concentrating his energies.

Hearing the Centaur's hooves track off in another direction, Xander waited...

He wasn't sure for how long, but he continued to concentrate as their scents faded out.

Shifting back into a human, Xander stays crouched to the ground, slipping into the river and passing over to the other side once more, grabbing his spear.

He continued to crawl back towards his cave, so he could hide out for a bit.

I wish Lena were here... Xander sighs quietly as he continued to slowly make his way back, trying to be quiet as he could.

Phoenix

Dawn was approaching upon the sky, the time to rise was now. Phoenix spreads the curtains of her bedroom window, staring out at the black sky ahead of her. Smoldering black eyes flicker onto upon the clouds, another day... coming...and going, slipping between her fingers as she waited.

Green was an envious color, it seemed to sink into her skin. Envy of how Joe could just forget... Phoenix wished there was a day that went by without Joe crossing her mind. Their friendship used to be wonderful, he would visit her every day, watching her play across the sky, dancing on light waves...

With a growl, she opens the long, glass doors to her porch, the white curtains billowing from the gust of wind the doors had created. With a deep breath, she stood up on the ledge of the porch, spreading her arms out wide, a solar flare bursting from inside her soul as a white light appears around her, revealing the form of the Phoenix.

Flapping her wings, feeling the heat of the air pulsating beneath her, she rises up into the sky, light dancing across her orange and yellow body. As Phoenix reaches her peak in the sky, she parts the clouds and a large burst of heat pulsated from her body. An extreme amount of light left her body and she let the orb rise in the sky, resting it between two large clouds. This would be the heat source for the day; Leaving her orb, she circles down towards her castle again, ready to face another day in Otherworld.

Joe stared intently at the pages of his book absorbing every word upon the page. His focus was centered entirely on the book within his hands, paying it his undivided attention. His attention however was cleanly shattered as a peircing ringing sound started to come from his alarm clock. With a steady gaze and a quick hand he silenced the clock and looked at the time. The clock read 8:30 and he had already been up for about an hour now and had taken care of all his daily morning activities. He had taken his morning shower, gathered up his things for the day, and made an attempt go tame his unkempt hair to no avail, his dark black hair as much a mess as usual. With his morning rituals completed he headed towards the door ready to start the day.

As as he walked he caught the gaze of his father, a cold nasty glare."Fix your hair you look like a mess." Joe looked at him as calmly as possible his face never betraying his calm demeanor. But oh how he hated the man. His father a neglectful and distant man, who's cold tone and nasty looks clearly indicated his feeling of anger and disappointment towards his son. But Joe would never let his father see just how much he hated him. Joe replied in an even tone." Thanks for the concern but it's fine. I really don't have time to fix it anyway." With that he turned away, not bothering to wait for a response and walked out the door towards school.

Wilow Huntington shrugged her bag on her shoulder, pushing past numerous people in the hallway. Keeping her eyes glued to the floor, she turned her iPod up louder, blocking out the laughter and happiness of a passing group throwing something around. It was a silly thing, happiness. Such a naive thing to feel, lifting your spirits up, playing around like that in life without a care in the world. Wilow sighed. If only they knew what life would do to them in the end. Of course, though, it wasn't nearly Wil's end; but it sure felt like it.

Wil yawned and changed her iPod to a more energetic song -- When Your Heart Stops Beating by +44. Last night a new baby got taken in, and it would not. Stop. Crying. In turn, it woke the other three babies in the home up. By Midnight, everyone was awake, and with the caretakers, 'Nan' and 'Pap', being 70-years-old and needing their sleep, the two oldest children were trusted in getting the kids back to sleep. The oldest of course included Tom, 18, and Wilow, 17. So Wilow and Tom spent hours trying to coo the children back to sleep, ending up with them going back to sleep at 5:30 in the morning, allowing Wilow only a two and a half hour's sleep. Today she had a Math and Science test as well... Wil no longer had time for imagination.

Wilow walked into her English class and took a seat in the back, away from everyone else. Looking at the clock and discovering she had 15+ minutes until class started, she started contemplating the thought of having a little nap before having to read either Of Mice and Men or The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, both of which she could swear she's read earlier. She leaned back, turning her music up, and closed her eyes.

Joe groaned as he opened his eyes, hearing the the buzzing of his alarm. Lazily, he reached to the side of his bed and turned it off. He frowned slightly. He had been having a dream. It was a good one at first, he recalled, but then it ended badly. For the life of him, however, he could not remember what it was about. Shaking his head, he stood up and began to dress. He had learned not to sleep in at home. Not when Al could volunteer to "wake him up" while his mother went to work. He reached for an object on his dressed and smiled slightly. It was a vintage switchblade from the 70's that he got at a good price. It wasn't as good as a gun, but he could hide it more easily.

He walked down the stairs, his mouth curling in distaste as his mother cooked breakfast and Al sat at the table in his underwear, reading the paper.

"Joe, are you going to stay for breakfast?" his mom asked. Joe frowned. She meant well, he knew, but... He couldn't bring himself to talk with her for any longer than he had to. He grabbed an apple.

"No... It's best I get to school early," he replied. Al snorted, but Joe ignored him. He stepped past him and headed out the door, biting in his apple as he did so.

Lena slipped through the school, through a side entrance to avoid th kids that hung round the entrance and liked to try and stick gum in her hair if she got in arm's length. The short-set young woman made her way to english class immediately. It wasn't as if she really had friends to catch up with. She had, for as long as she could remember, been some form of social pariah, picked last for any team going, generally at a loss when students were asked to find a partner and usually placed with someone who accepted very grudgingly and interacted the minimal possible, and those were the people that didn't really strongly dislike her.

Helena Norrevintr sat in her seat over near the wall, the seat next to it unoccupied, with her book in front of her and the ratty old toy pulled close beneath the curve of her ribcage.

She shifted the battered looking chunk of old copypaper, held together with duct tape and bulldog clips at the time. Plenty of people had tried to grab it off her as a means to upset her, but while she often came across as a bit clumsy in her hideous multicoloured sweater so was surprisingly fast. No-one had managed to get hold of the ratty notebook.

And it was just as well from Helena's point of view.

The book was her Field Guide. Of sorts. It contained all the notes she'd made on the corrupted Otherworld. Diagrams, maps, lists. Sketches of the creatures and plants, what could help you and what could tear you to pieces, from years of personal experience. It was downright necessary, when so much of the OW was based around obscure rules and childish logic. It'd saved her more times than she could count. She could give them copies of this to help matters along.

Just then, she caugh sight of someone familiar, and turned a little. There were a few other people in the room, toward the front, but Lena spoke up...fairly loudly.

"Hey...Wilow!" the girl called.
"I need to talk to you. About Otherworld. I need you and the others to come back."

The forest was silent. The entirety of the realm seemed to hold its' breath as even the air was stagnant. Days like this were always bothersome. A small figure had her hands clenched around a thin, nearly invisible string--expertly climbing it to hoist herself into the nook of a tree. Breathing out, she shifted her weight, nuzzling into the comfort of the flora. It was the best she could do, for now--best to stay off of the forest floor today. On days such as this when the forest felt lifeless was when it was probably at its' most hostile, and she had no desire to get involved with that little game of survival today. She'd let those beasts down below roam about and when they grew tired, she would be able to come down and play.

A frown touched her lips. It was at moments like this, when she was not busying her mind, that she remembered what her realm used to be. Before her mistress disappeared. Before all of them disappeared. She still remembered each dreamer, but the most special one of all had taken some of the life energy that used to be given to this place. And now, well, The Doll wouldn't be surprised if a few areas of her forest had succumbed to a bit of haunting. The fact that she had been using spots also as digging sites for useless corpses probably wasn't helping much either. Which reminded her. She was due for a new pair of eyes.

She stood gracefully, grasping the string to support her weight as she scanned the forest over briefly. Hm. Maybe there would be new playthings in a new area. Her children were starving back at her home, starving for attention and sight. Yes, her peculiar hobby was probably frightening to others. Her home was one of discarded limbs and joints of dolls that had never been finished. But it was also warm and one of the only places she could find company. When the dreamers stopped coming, she also had stopped seeing her fellow imaginaries. And that had stopped the games all together.

Not that she hadn't... tried. In the very beginning after the disappearance, she had been confused (she still was, sadly). Not all the dreamers had gone away at the same time, she had asked after the other imaginaries, the other dreamers, to tell her where her beloved mistress had gone. But none of them had answers for her and in due time, all of her friendships had fallen apart. Why did she still hope, then? She still had that flame inside of her, buried in the smallest corner of her heart. A belief that one day, Wilow would come back for her and things would return to normal.

She bit the inside of her cheek to stop herself from thinking such ridiculous thoughts. No, stop thinking like that--it wasn't worth it. She had hunting to do anyway. With a deep breath, she bent her knees and then pushed her weight off of the tree, gliding to the next branch in search of her next target.

Wilow opened her eyes again and sighed as she faintly heard someone call her name over the guitar riff of Natives by blink-182. She removed one bud just in time to hear 'I need to talk to you. About Otherworld. I need you and the others to come back.'

Willow froze. Her breath hitched in her throat, she didn't blink. She was rigid, her mind almost becoming flooded with memories. No matter how much she had trained herself not to 'see' in her mind, the image was vivid -- images and memories, flashing and swirling together in one dark wave suddenly approaching from the blackness of the back of her mind, crashing in, seeming unstoppable. Wilow was completely idle, still in fear. She had to do something. The wave was approaching, coming closer, and she couldn't let that happen. It swirled in a tsunami, dangerously close to its destination when it was suddenly stopped by an invisible force that only Wilow could imagine. It slammed against the tidal, pushing it back with so much force that Wilow brought a hand up to her forehead slowly. The memories retreated, and she blinked. She had saved herself from something even she didn't know of. Wil took a breath before straightening up and turning to who just called her.

It was Helena Norrevinter, one of the other Dreamers. By the look of her compared to the others, she was the only one of the six that had kept her imagination. And now it seemed like she believed that the others, Wilow included, still had theirs.

How unfortunately wrong she was.

Wilow glanced around to see the other teens in the room turned in their seats, staring at the two like they'd gone mad. She turned back to Helena, feeling her green eyes sink back into their stoic focus, and spoke softly.

'I don't think you really do need anyone for anything. I'm not going back anywhere,' that was definitely true, 'and that... place...' Wil couldn't even bring herself to say the name, it was buried too deep to be brought back up right now, 'There's nothing about the.... the place that needs to be talked about.' Inwardly, Wilow let out a deep breath. That was the closest she's gotten to talking about the Otherworld since... the accident.

And she'd rather not do it again. Wil leaned back in her chair and closed her eyes, but she didn't put that earbud back in. She didn't know why... but she didn't.

Red light filtered through the vaulted windows of the chancel, through the welded bars over the gothic architecture, causing stripes of crimson on the flags, marked as they were, inexpertly with rivets and struts.

The wing of the owl hung from the frame by some copper wire and hooks against. The Angel crouched before it, staring at it and looking between that and the twisted amalgamation hung from the ceiling, a composite of metal and bones and gappy, stitched hides. It didn't look right. How very frustrating. Cadriel hopped down from her perch and walked across the stone flags, watched nervously by the Gargoyles. These creatures, flawed results of her own attempts to craft working wings, were hideous-looking chimeras of flesh and machinery, once Otherworld residents before taken away by Cadriel's mechanical men. Now they stood bound to the Angel's will, and as such were also permanently subject to her unpredictable whims.

And those whims were VERY unpredictable.

Some days she might be caring and compassionate, doing her best to try and fix them and fussing over the creatures, filled with a need to takecare of them, other days she was a spiteful, cruel sadist who would happily see them harmed for her own amusement. It meant that even those at the very top of her mockery of a court were constantly afraid of her.

"Where...where has my horsie gone?" she asked thoughtfully, before extending a bandaged, bloodied hand pointing towards one, a sort of hunched bird-rabbit dressed in a smock.

"Th-the Sentinel went out mi-milady." the abomination stammered, the stitches tugging the corners of its mouth.
"Looking for the red lady. The last dreamer th-"

"Don't speak of her here!" Cadriel interrupted, seizing hold of the creature's muzzle and jamming it shut with an ironlike grip.
"I don't want to know about Xander's little relic. I don't want you to speak of ANY of them. The Dreamers are gone and shall stay that way. Soon the red one and her little toothpick will end up skewered on horsie's pike and we won't have to hear about them anymore..."

She relinquished her grip abruptly and hopped up onto the ledge of the nearest window, the scorching wind that blew up from the furnaces pushing the limp strands of her hair back from her white face as she cast her gaze out beyond the Minster, and toward the wasteland beyond.

She grinned, darkly.
"When they're all dead none of us will have to hear about them anymore..."

As usual, Joe was late to school. Dealing drugs was a time consuming business at times. Once you built up your reputation, you needed to stand in the same place every day at regular periods of time. If you weren't there when one of your customers was craving a fix, then they would be easily picked up by a rival drug dealer. Personally, Joe dealt drugs near the back of the high school building an hour before school started, but today, a few of his usual customers were late so he was obliged to wait for them. Not that he minded too much. The smoke from his own (hand-rolled) cigarette kept him warm and cheerful.

Thus, Joe walked through the halls, smelling of cannabis and back alleys with a slight grin on his face. That grin, however, was wiped away as he heard a conversation between two familiar people. He raised an eyebrow at the two redheads, Willow and Helena. He felt a twinge of pity for the latter. He and the others had all grown up. She hadn't.

"Helena, please keep talk of our old game to a minimum here. You don't need to visit the school counselor again."

Anyone else would sound like they were mocking her, but this was absent from Joe's tone. He may say cruel things on occassion, but never to his former friends.

"It does... things are getting bad. They weren't good before but it's getting far worse. You need to come back. All of you do. I'm telling you now seeing as I have no idea how long I'll be around..." the girl tried to explain to her former friend, only to look round as she heard a familiar voice.

Helena got picked on an awful lot by students who disliked her. Joe Hopkins was probably the reason it was not more prevalent though. People often thought of him as some hardcore criminal, and the fact that he didn't like people messing with her meant that people did tend to tone it down more than they would have liked.

She gave a laugh at his remark, as Hel was wont to do in situations that by no means warranted it, demonstrating her lack of concern about the prospect of yet another session sat before the counselor whilst they tried to work out why she was fundamentally broken to everyone else's standard.

Though one of the crucial troubles was they could not actually think of any particular reason behind it. It was not as if Helena had some bad family life or scarring event. She had a decent, supportive family. They were wealthy, as the family on her mom's side headed up a large company, and the two retained steady jobs and had always treated her extremely well. Her father was quite doting on his daughter, and would allow her to get away with most things, and it was possibly down to his nfluence that her less laidback mother had not pushed things too much.

The only thing that was really notable was her accident a few years back that had been the catalyst for the end of their games as it had seen her gone for such a long time. She'd never really talked about it to the others about, not in the least because by the time she had come back things had fallen apart, and so the details had been lost to most people. In a sense that was cited as the reason she brhaved as she did. Lena didn't seem to agree.

"That...that doesn't really matter...not compared to what's happening at the moment..."" she replied.
"Things are all wrong and everything is doing its best to tear me apart. I was dealing with a swamp hydra all night last night..."

Joseph was at his locker gathering his some of his books for his next few classes. He grabbed his notebooks, his calculater and anything else he might need for his next few classes. He stood there for a moment making sure he had all of his math notes in one orgainized place. He had a free period next and a math test later today so he figured he'd study for a little befor the test. Not that he really needed to he knew most of the material inside and out, and he was confident he'd ace the test, but he didn't really have anyone to talk to, he didn't have many friends anymore and those he did speak to hardly heard more than a sentence from him.To him Studing during his free period was preferable to talking to people he barely knew anyway. As soonas he had all of his books he quietly closed his locker and made his way down the hall as silently as possible.

As he made his way down the hallway he noticed a slight smell of cannibis coming from one of the English classrooms. It wasn't an uncommon smell here and normally Joe would have walked straight by it with nary a thought, however as he was walking he heard a familier voice utter something strange about a swamp hydra. It could only be Helena, no one else would utter something so strange outloud.

As he moved closer toward the voice he noticed it was indeed Helena. However she wasn't alone. She was with Willow and Joey. He couldn't believe it and for a moment a look of total confusion crossed his face, though he made sure to quickly do away with it. Most of his old friends barely talked to each other, if at all, and yet here were three of them together. He contemplated going over and saying hello, as Joe himself has hardly uttered a word to any of his old friends in years, but he stopped himself just as he was about to walk over. Joe has never really felt comfortable speaking with many people in school, and everyone has changed so much over the years. everyone except Helena that is, she seemed to remain the same imaginative young girl she used to be. Willow however much like himself withdrew from other people, and Joey had become something of a punk over the years.

Still he felt he should go over and say something, it had been so long after all and it would be nice to rekindle old friendships. Many times before had he seen his old friends about in the halls and felt the same need to speak to them however he had always stopped himself, but now that three of them were together it seemed like a perfect chance. So he surprised himself and walked over to them.

"What's this about a swamp hydra, Helena?" He said as confidently as he could without sounding to nervous. It felt odd speaking to them again, and despite his calm face Joe found himself feeling quite nervous.

Wilow watched as the scene before her developed into just what she had been avoiding for the past ten years. Suddenly three other Dreamers were standing in front of her, looking calm and just dandy, chatting away about Swamp Hydras -- she only vaguely remembered them -- like it was a normal day. The three of them seemed calm with each other, not the least bit bothered with talking about something that happened ten years ago.

Yet it was horrifying to Wilow.

She didn't even want to get the chance to hear anything else -- she already felt like she was going to be sick from it -- her leg was bouncing up and down to try and distract her, and all she wanted to so was curl up in a ball and block out everything going on around her. She didn't even hear herself muttering, 'not the hydras, not the Otherworld, not any of it...' for if she did she would have broken down on the spot.

Wilow couldn't bear listening to it anymore. Too uncomfortable to think about it, wanting to retreat to her quiet self, she quickly plugged her earbud back in, turned it up full blast, avoiding any of the other's eyes.

Xander

Xander continued to creep through the trees, as not to cause any sudden movements that might give away his position. His goal was to be stealthy, quiet, and controlled.

Looking to his right, he saw the dirt path in which he had to follow to get home; As the sun seemed to burn brighter as it rose into the sky, Xander could feel it's pulsating rays bouncing off the dead roots of the trees.

Keeping a watchful eye out in front of him, he hauled back towards his cave and there he sat, curled up inside, attempting to listen for unfamiliar sounds.

Surely Lena would be here soon, time seemed to pass differently between their two realms... Sometimes there would be days without seeing her, other times it would be weeks... The separation from his friend made him unsettled.

Xander closed his eyes, his heavy breathing began to cease slowly. Sleep was never easy for the Wolf, he always found himself restlessly tossing and turning during the night, and waking to the sunrise. The negative energies through the forest made him on edge. The trees had been speaking in hushed rustles, worry shaking the dead leaves right off their frail branches...

Sitting up in his cave after ten minutes of being restless, he removed the blanket from around his body and crawled out slowly. His eyes fixated on the land in front of him. The division of the land was becoming more and more noticeable as the minutes ticked by in Xander's head. What used to be lush, green forestry, was now a dull brown; everything was limp, dried up. Other parts of the woods though were teeming with life, feeding off the intoxicated vibrations that had now tainted Underworld...

Xander growled, spitting on the ground as he rested down upon a rock, in hope to get some peace of mind.

It was like a reunion or something, the way Joe, Helena, and Wilow were together again with Helana talking about Otherworld like they were still children. He sighed. She couldn't keep doing this. Sooner or later, she would have to grow up. He clenched his fist. He looked at Wilow's frown and Joe's earnest expression. He felt bad for saying this, but he had to.

"Otherworld isn't real, Helena. It's just imaginary. It all was. I stopped believing in it when I needed my imaginary friend the most and, guess what? He wasn't there. He never was there. If they are real, where are they?" he asked as calmly as he could.

No. Jack wasn't there.

She had been swinging back and forth between the trees for several minutes before something caused her to stop. Her ball joints gave a little springing noise as she halted her movement, narrowing her eyes to survey the scene below her. Something was definitely off--usually the beasts that roamed her realm did not migrate quite as fast as she did. And she had an advantage, she was not encumbered by the forest or the various obstacles that rested upon the ground. Whatever was on the ground was moving just as fast as she, and that was a rather frightening prospect to even think on.

She shivered, lacing her arms around a branch as lowered her head slightly in the ground's direction. Closer but still many meters above the forest floor--just safe enough to get a better look at the situation. There was definitely something below her, she could hear it ruffling through the branches. It sounded as if it were searching for something, maybe someone. Whatever it was, it made her uncomfortable and nervous to consider. What if it was... following her? This new thought brought with it a wave of nausea. No no no, she didn't want to be followed, she just wanted to be... left to her peace. The smallest part of her perked up at the thought that maybe, just maybe, this wasn't a hostile entity. Maybe it was her mistress, finally returning after so long. But that thought was ridiculous, there was just no way it could be.

Still her heart encouraged her to test it. Just to be sure. Just to get an affirmative. And as much as she disliked what she felt inclined to do, her fingers fluttered into her small bag, pulling out the violin she always kept on her person. If it was... her creator, then the woman would respond. And she had to be sure, she had to... she just had to double-check. It would set her mind at ease.

She tilted her head to the side to hold her violin against her shoulder, placing a thin bow atop the strings. And with a deep sigh, she began to play a sweet sonata, the notes coming across smooth with an edge of melancholy. She had only been playing for a few moments when she heard a voice from below her. She paused, ready to resume, when a laugh reached her ears, followed by a voice she did not recognize.

"I knew you were nearby... and now your music has led me straight to you." Her heart came to a perfect jolting stop in her chest, her fingers growing lax. She nearly dropped her violin, well, the keyword here being nearly. Fortunately, her grip succeeded and her reflexes kicked in. She grasped it and readjusted it underneath her arm. But now she had a new situation on her hands--a new situation that she didn't quite... know how to deal with. This creature was not her mistress. And it was threatening, its' presence had already left her feeling icky. Ohh, why hadn't she just kept moving? Even when the woman wasn't here, her dreamer was still getting her into trouble!

The creature didn't make another sound but it was looking upwards now--it's gaze just meters off from where she was secluded in the branches. She had to make a move. She couldn't just stay here as if she were waiting to be hunted. Escape was going to be her best ally, she wasn't exactly in a fighting spirit... she left that kind of violence for... the imitation. She shook her head--no, she didn't have a reason to bring that out at all. She could get out of her safe! The Lady positioned her violin against her skin once more and began to play her silky notes, but this time with a different purpose.

Mana flowed from her fingertips, the ethereal notes swirling about her before swooping to do her bidding. A nearby vine unfurled and she stepped on to it, commanding the plants to form a bridge of leaves to support her weight. It was taking her a lot of courage to keep playing, evenly at that--since she was pretty sure that the creature was probably staring right at her. Don't look down, don't look down, don't look down!.

A roar from below her caused her to start playing faster, this was no leisurely stroll. She had to move, fast. Her notes picked up in pace, growing staccato, uneven forte, and the objects around her were responding in turn. The vines wrapped around her tiny body to support her as she ran across her growing leaf bridge. She didn't want to fight, not right now--but there was only one person she knew that would be able to help her out of this situation. And she hadn't seen him in such a long time--would he even be willing to assist her?

Of course, Xander was the only one out of all the imaginaries that was more or less the same. And sometimes she still saw him, from a distance. His realm was parallel to hers, after all, and the barrier of where his realm began and hers did was somewhat blurred. Yes, she knew how to cross into his part of these thick woods--he was all she could think about. In the time before, she had looked up to him, he had been the big, furry protector in her eyes. And riding on his back (sometimes) hadn't been so bad either. She felt a bit of hesitation rise in her chest. Would he remember her as fondly as she did him? How would she even react upon seeing him again when it had been so...?

No time for that, no time for that at all.

She forced herself to keep playing, she knew where his favorite cave was. Now she could only hope that he'd be there when she arrived. Hopefully he wouldn't be too angry at the unwanted guest.

Jack O' Frost

"I'M SO BOORRREEEDD!!" shouted Prince Chill as he sat in his ice crystal throne, a large icicle fell at the sound of his voice.

He huffed, sitting lazily on in his throne, a leg laying over the arm of the throne, his hand holding his resting chin.

"My Lord, the castle is already falling to ruin, Perhaps, you should keep your voice down." said a wrinkly old blue skinned rabbit dressed in a petticoat. "I'll do as I PLEEEAAASSEE!!" Jack shouted again and another large icicle fell and shattered on the ground.

"I am bored, there's nothing for me to do, What's a King without a Kingdom." He asked with a sigh. "I wasn't always so bored, what changed?" He asked the rabbit.

"You used to be nicer..." The rabbit whispered only to have a snowball hit him in the side of the head.

"I heard that." Jack groaned.

"Well you were." the rabbit said. Jack rolled his eyes. "No, there was something...." He frowned. "Some...one? Oh! Who was the lad I used to pow around with, Oh he was fun, we fought and danced. He laughed at all my jokes," Jack stood on his throne, play fencing with the shadow.

"What was his name?" Jack asked the rabbit still standing on his throne.

The rabbit sighed, "I don't know, Mylord."

"Oh Blast, He was so much fun, What was his NAME?!" He shouted into the sky, ringing the ice and causing more icicles to fall. Jack and the Rabbit dodged falling ice for a moment and Jack sat back in his throne.

"What was his name?"

Xander

As Xander laid down on the rock, he began to drift off slowly as each breath became deeper and deeper. Letting out a yawn, the boy rests his arm across his eyes, blocking the sun. Sacred geometric shapes began to fill his vision as he began to lean in closer to a meditative state. He could feel the earth vibrating underneath him, every life force teeming through the forest... Most things were not peaceful like they used to be, the forest was unsettled in energies, the chaos had led to it's own destructive path. Xander did what he could normally to keep things up and running on a more positive energy level, but Otherworld had taken it's turn for the worst. And everyone around him was falling into the madness.

Of course, it drove Xander nuts, all of his old friends now buried in a deep pit of depression that raged on like a sea during a storm...But the boy knew that Lena would try to talk to the other Imagineers about rerouting Otherworld to a better place... If they would only open their ears and listen...

As Xander slowly got lost in thought, something threw him out of his calm state.

The sound of music seemed to fill the air, and Xander's ears perked up, his eyes flickered open. Sitting up on the rock, he turned his head to the right, then to the left, trying to decipher where it was coming from...

The only time he had heard music in the forest was due to ...

His eyes widened...

Lady? .. The doll... could she be back?

Xander crouched down on the rock, letting out a growl, she wasn't alone... Something else was following her... He could feel it rumbling the forest floor... What was it though...And what was Lady doing here anyway? Xander's curiosity made him edgy as thoughts flew through his mind.

(Sorry I've been slow! D8)

"They are real, they're just not in this world, you know how it works." Helena replied, regarding Joe as it it were the most obvious thing in the world, before the question regarding hydras seemed to spur her into action, and she reached round in her book of papers.

She renched it open and set it on a page, a detailed sketch of a reptile, a creature dripping with slime and weeds, dark eyes and sharp fangs on three wedge heads.

"Swamp hydras. They've been breeding in huge numbers in thw Maudlin Marshes and started attacking travellers so....I've had to try and do something about it. They're a lot more agressive now though. They used to be quite cautious....but now they'll attack..on sight. It was a close one quite a few times. That's why I really need help with these things. Xander can only help me so much and..."

She trailed off for a moment, glancing back over her shoulder, as if keeping check. What stood behind her was nothing but a featureless wall of the room, but she seemed to be checking in great detail as if there was far more to keep an eye on.

"So, should I make some copies of the field guide? That should fill you all in on what you missed."
