Name: Eztli Necalli
Alias: N/A

Description: Eztli is tall and built like a battering ram. With strong muscles under taught skin Eztli is at first glance an imposing figure that could crush your skull in a heart beat... until you see the ears and tail that is. He goes from intimidating to adorable in a split second once you lay your eyes on the feline ears and tail, the black spotted pattern on otherwise orange fur giving away his Jaguar side. Pointing these features out will pull forth a snarl fierce enough to make an orc take a step back.

His features look almost chiseled with high, prominent cheekbones, straight nose, thin lips and slightly deep set eyes which are light brown in colour. His hair which is cropped short, despite his dislike for his ears, is black in colour and generally fairly unkempt. His complexion is relatively pale with a light tan. His clothes are casual, leather tunic and pants with leather arm braces and shin braces along with some steel inlaid shoulder braces.

In his animal form Eztli is sleek and powerful, a beast to be reckoned with. He looks like the average Jaguar, with his main identifier being the disgruntled look on his face or the chunk that's missing from his right ear.

Weight: 250lb
Sex: Male
Hair Color: Black

Secondary Language: Thallien

Date of Birth: 34th of June 313 CE
Home Realm: Jun Irda
Home Kingdom: Jirda ai
Current Residence: The town of Chulak
Social Class: Commoner

Strengths:
~Hand-to-hand Combat: As a brawler and a Jumentai, Eztli as the upper hand in most physical confrontations, able to knock a human out with a single punch.
~Senses: Thanks to his animalistic side, Eztli has keen senses which allow him to detect the presence of others long before they detect his.
~Loyalty: Eztli has a strong sense of loyalty and will stick by those who have earned it until they give him reason to doubt his decision.
~Protective Instinct: One wouldn't think of this when they first lay eyes on Eztli, but he has a strong protective streak when it comes to those he deems weaker than himself. He believes that as a stronger person it is his job to help keep those who are weaker safe from harm.

Weaknesses:
~Tactics: The words meaning are a foreign concept to him. His main strategy being: Detect them first, then charge.
~Self-image: There's something about his fluffy ears and tail that rub Eztli the wrong way. Don't get him wrong, being able to turn into a Jaguar is complete kick ass! But... his racial indicators make him feel like some kind of teddy bear. He is known to lose his temper at the drop of a hat should somebody point them out.
~Communication: With his native tongue needing no words and a simple glance can be a whole sentence Eztli sometimes finds it hard to communicate with other races and is often frustrated when they don't pick up on the way his ears sit or the vocal sound he makes, despite knowing it means nothing to them.
~Dogs: Well... canines in general actually. Thanks to his feline status Eztli has found that he can't stand dogs. Period. He will go out of his way to avoid them and is often found hissing at them if forced to confront one, becoming edgy and uneasy... not exactly the coolest thing to do when trying to impress a woman.

Personality: Eztli's a pretty straight forward kind of guy, someone whose emotions are basically written on his forehead... if you know what you're looking for. He isn't used to having to restrain his frustration or anger, having it picked up on long before it manifests itself into actions or words where he comes from and having the target of his anger 'talk' it out with him. Though among other races he could be considered quite brutish as his anger usually builds up until he's shouting in a persons face about what pisses him off, or shoving/punching/throwing them to show his distaste. Despite this, when calm, Eztli can be pleasant company to be around. He's quick with a joke and will keep the conversational ball rolling to avoid awkward silences and generally fairly kind and caring.

His communicative skills are lacking though and he often uses his native tongue to express emotions and if comfortable around someone may slip into the language entirely, forgetting that the person he's talking to has no clue what he's doing, let along what he's trying to say. This way of communication is deeply ingrained in Eztli and a major part of his day-to-day life. Luckily for him, purring and hissing are fairly obvious indicators and most people pick up on it, even if they have no idea what the rest of his body language states.

He is a naturally physical person, taking everything head on without so much as a second thought to the consequences, believing planning is for the weak and unsure. He also finds it amusing that people will use weapons instead of their bare hands, finding amusing (to him at least) insults to try and belittle them for relying on metal rather than their own strength to take down their enemies.

Eztli believes though that this strength also comes with a responsibility to protect those that are weaker than himself. Those who don't wield weaponry and are physically inferior to himself. This self-given title of protector manifests itself in impromptu acts of kindness and protection and has made him pursue a job as mercenary that specializes in escorts.

Quirks:
~ Tail twitches when he's in thought or angry
~ He is often caught sniffing the air
~ When he sees a fish, especially salmon, he'll freeze and stare at it, he'll generally buy it after standing stock still for about a minute or hunt it if he saw it in the river.
~Loves sunbathing, especially in his Jaguar form

Equipment: Eztli owns a leather pack which contains everything that he needs when he goes traveling or accepts a job:
~ A water canteen
~ Changes of clothes
~ Money pouch
~ Food rations
~ A sleeping bag
~ A small dagger to gut and skin animals

Biography: Eztli was born on the 34th of June 313 CE to Cipatcli and Matlel Necalli in the town of Chulak. He was an adventurous child, always running around the town and the surrounding woods, tracking frogs and lizards and watching them with bright, curious eyes. When he was little he loved being called adorable by those around them, his ears and tail being his favourite part of himself, they brought him attention from his parents. His father had been a Black Caiman while his mother had been Ocelot, apparently Eztli had gotten his gene from his grandfather on his mother's side. This of course had made Eztli the old man's favourite grandson and often favoured him, giving him presents and all round spoiling the young child.

When he turned forth Eztli became the older brother to twin girls, Itzel, an Anaconda like her grandmother on her father's side and Yaotl, a Black Caiman like her father. At first Eztli was beyond happy to be an older brother, walking about proudly with his younger sisters as they learned to walk, exploring the town with them and showing them his favourite spots to explore. As they older though his reptilian sisters were often seen as being tougher than he was by others his age due to their animal counterparts. While they had scales he had fur. While he was a child though, this didn't bother him as he enjoyed how his parents would say that he was their little furball.

When he became a teenager all this changed though. Due to his reputation as a little adorable cat when he was younger the belief that his sisters were stronger and more formidable than him started to get to him more and more. The nicknames he'd loved as a kid started to make him angry and his close relationship with his sisters became strained. He was often mocked for being the only non-reptile among the three and by the age of thirteen began getting into fights to prove that he was stronger than them. He trained himself relentlessly and was often scolded by his parents for coming home with black eyes and cuts and bruises. It was at age sixteen that he was finally able to prove his strength when one of Eztli's most frequent taunters decided to pick a fight with Yaotl. Despite having becoming slightly estranged from the two from the years of being belittled he was the first person to step to her defense, knowing that despite her lineage his younger sister wasn't as physically strong as most Jumentai, following intellectual pursuits instead of physical ones.

After the confrontation he made it his personal duty to protect his sisters and others that weren't as strong. Over the next few years he made himself a reputation for being strong and slowly came to get used to his appearance though will still lash out against anyone to point his appearance out. When he turned 19 he decided to take this self-given title to a new level and began making a level escorting people and keeping them safe from bandits. He continued to build upon his reputation as someone not to be trifled with, making himself a healthy profit with which he was able to purchase a two bedroom home in Chulak at age 23, using the spare bedroom generally to house guests, most of which were from his own family.

Due to his violent reputation and imposing figure he finds it hard to women, but is currently happy with his life. He is currently traveling to a neighbouring Kingdom with a trading group as their body guard.

"Why is it that life can't ever just be predictable? Why does it have to turn around and bite us in the ass?"

The occasional cloud hung about in sky, their presence obscuring part of the well lit sky. It was peaceful, for the most part, those around Eztli sound asleep as the giant Jaguar stood guard, ears perked at the restless sound of animals in the woods. His ears twitched restlessly at the constant sound, the traders he was to escort to through Galleinder sound asleep under their carts as they snored the night away.

His tail twitched, the air seemed unusually heavy, even for the time of year. As if there was some kind of charge in the air. A low snarl left him as he got up, prowling around the small camp. With each step he took Eztli became more and more uneasy. His ears flattened themselves against his skull, eyes darting around the darkness as he tried to alleviate the feeling that something horrible was going to happen. He could smell nothing, hear nothing, not even a shadow twitched in his line of site as he returned to his post.

Eztli was unsure how long he sat there before the wind picked up, tearing at his fur, the canvas flaps of he carts making loud snapping sounds as they tugged at the ropes that restrained them. His hackles rose as the wind continued to gain strength, leaves rustling, chattering like lost spirits as the occasional leaf was torn from the canopy to go sailing through the air. He looked up in time to see the clouds race across the sky in every direction before vanishing from sight. He stood, eyes searching the sky, what was happening? Another low snarl worked its way past his curled lips as the air started to literally spark. Tiny lightning bolts arched through the air around him, their crackling noise making Eztli's fur stand on edge.

The arcs of electricity became more frequent, lighting up the sky. The snarl became more pronounced, turning into a yelp as one connected with his nose. He took a couple steps back, a paw rising to rub the spot before quickly making a round, checking on those he had been charged with guarding, feeling relief spread through him when he saw that none of them had been disturbed from their slumber. Another spark connected with him, this time the pinching sensation coming from his tail. He turned, as if to somehow combat his non-existent attacker. He froze as he spotted the sparks in the distance, he stared towards the east, towards the center of the realm. From the distance he gauged and the visibility of the sparks it appeared that they got larger the closer to the center you got. He shifted from paw to paw uneasily, damn it! Why did he have to accept this job? He was getting by just fine and would have been so for a few more weeks before needing money. So why did he accept the job? Right... because he couldn't say no to the woman that asked him to come... Maybe he really was turning into a teddy bear. His nose wrinkled at the thought, a disgruntled rumble left him.

It was then that he heard it, the sizzle that came with the canvas as it smoldered, on the verge of catching fire. He was quick to grab the fabric in his teeth and tear out the chunk, pain filling his mouth as the embers touched his tongue. He spat it out, hearing similar sounds from the different carts and settled himself with the task of waking up those that slept under the carts, the grumbled as he tugged at clothing and pawed at them till eyes fluttered open, the canvas covering having gone up in flames, the heat baking his skin.

He woke the last person when a cracking sound filled the air, as if someone had stepped on a mirror. He looked up at the sky to see that it was blank... and red, bathing the ground around in a fiery haze. Cracks spread across what had once been the sky, creating a large 'X' shape that centered on... well... the center of the Realm. Without a single thought he took a step towards its, eyes glued on the light that shone from the center of the cracks, his curiosity getting the better of him.

As a Jaguar one might think that Eztli would place more stock to the saying, "Curiosity killed the cat," but he seemed unable to quell his inquisitive nature when it came to this.

The light at its center darkened in colour until it was as black as the spots that covered his pelt, the only thing breaking the darkness being purple sparks that rippled out from it. His curiosity was crushed with a sense of impending doom as the cloud that poured out from the crack seemed to fall apart at the edges, small, black shapes fall to the earth. He could barely hear the people behind him as they worked to douse the fires, his entire attention fixated on the demons that fell from the sky carrying their crude weaponry like inexperienced whelps.

A snarl ripped through him as he lunged at one of the beasts as they came down with their unearthly shrieks. His fangs tore through their flesh, their revolting taste filling his mouth. They swung their weapons around like children, striking out blindly and mostly missed. But what they lacked in experience they made up in brutality and numbers. He could feel the cuts as they lashed out at him, flinching in pain as they continued their assault, the sounds of agonized screaming behind him making his stomach churn. Silence suddenly descended upon Eztli's corner of the world, the monsters vanishing as quickly as they had appeared. With a growing sense of dread he turned and searched through the camp site hoping to find a single person who was still alive. The sight that greeted him made his stomach physically heave.

They were dead... all of them... broken and bloody. He didn't even bother to nudge them, most were missing limbs, one of them even having had his chest torn open, the heart impaled on a rib.

He turned, getting to his feet as he looked around, a hand reaching up to scratch the back of his head. This couldn't be happening. No... It simply couldn't. Now that he was in his human form the scent of blood made his stomach heave once more, though this time he let the bile come, clutching a nearby cart to steady himself as his stomach emptied itself of its contents. It took him a while to get a grip on himself, straightening up he wiped his mouth with the back of his hand and searched through the wreckage for his belongings, he wasn't staying here another minute.

Pulling his backpack on he phased once more as he began to run, leaving the bodies of those he had been charged to protect behind him. Every step that he took towards the center of the realm brought on a fresh wave of guilt. He had failed. The first time in his life he had failed a contract.

Why was he heading towards center of the 'X' though? He wasn't sure, just that he knew that, somehow, he'd find the answers to his questions there and that this, whatever it was, was just the beginning.

"Why is it that life can't ever just be predictable? Why does it have to turn around and bite us in the ass?"

Eztli traveled almost non-stop over the next twelve days, wanting to put as much distance between himself and the dead bodies of those he had been traveling with. In every town in he passed he was faced with the glaring really that the attacks hadn't been isolated. People were mourning, the charred remains of buildings and livelihoods greeting him from all directions. In the first few days of his travels he saw people digging out bodies from the debris. After the third town where he witnessed this Eztli avoided them, unable to force himself to see their mangled remains.

His longest break had been to bandage his wounds on the first day. He had barely slept, the images of the dead and the events that transpired before it along with the demonic faces of the monsters plagued his dreams. He spent most of his time running through the terrain and fearing that it would happen again, that the sky would crack again. The paranoia was getting to him, he didn't eat as much, if someone were to approach him they would notice how thin he was, how his hips were too defined as the Jaguar ran. He also barely phased back into his human form, his senses were higher when he was in this form, giving him the edge should it happen.

With each day that passed he got closer to the center of the realm and the city of Hallnder. He still wasn't exactly sure why he was heading there, why he was heading to the center of the 'X' when its image haunted him and made sleep elude him. But, if there was one thing that Eztli was, logical wasn't it.

He slowed as he spotted the city on the horizon, still a few hours of walking. He would have continued if his legs would allow him, but they screamed for rest, the wounds that covered his shoulders from the attacks tearing open with each running bound he had taken over his journey. Panting he turned to look in the direction he had come once more questioning why he was heading to the city. He should be going home and checking on his family, make sure that they were all okay. He turned, about to run back the way he had come when he felt the pull of the city. There were answers there, he knew that... somehow. He had to find those answers, or he may never sleep a full night without nightmares again.

With a low snarl and continued on his journey, pushing his body to the limits as he neared the city walls. He couldn't slow down, not now that he was so damn close.

He phased back into his human form shortly before entering Hallnder, he Guards hat let him in, eyeing him uneasily and asking if he felt alright. He waved them off and stumbled his way through the streets, readjusting the bandage around his upper arm and ignored the grumbling of his stomach, letting him know he hadn't eaten in three days since he ran out of food rations. As expected with his cranky expression, no one approached him, in fact, they gave him a wide berth. With a jaw-cracking yawn Eztli found himself gravitating towards a hastily repaired market stall, its owner having his arm in a sling as he called out his wares. He felt his mouth water as he spotted the fish the man was selling. Without even paying much attention to the price he forked out the twenty Feir and took the fish, tearing into the flesh the moment he'd turned from the stall.

He finished it within minutes, picking out the bones and flicking them onto the street casually as he tried to avoid looking at the remnants the the attack. He threw away the rest of fish's skeleton, shoving his hands into his pockets as he searched for an inn to crash at, deciding that a roof over his head might be just what he needed to sleep. It took close to an hour, but Eztli finally found himself before an open inn, ignoring the other tenants as he entered, some of them in worse shape than he was. He managed to get a room, handing over most of the money that he had left and stumbling his way to the room. His exhaustion got the better of him, without so much as bothering to take off his backpack the Jumentai collapsed onto the bed. Within an instant he was asleep, soft snores leaving him as his face pressed against the pillow.

Eztli twitched, his ears flicking. He sat up, teeth bared as he looked around the room, the bleached light of the moon streaming in through the window. He froze as a figure stepped out from the shadows, a black cloak obscuring every detail of the person. Eztli's hands curled into fists as he pulled them up, hissing through clenched teeth, "Who are you? What do you want!"

The figure didn't move, instead spoke, the voice a strange mix of man and woman, setting Eztli on egde, "I simply want a few minutes of your time."

Eztli's ears flattened themselves, tail twitching, his brain screamed at him to punch the person out, to throw them out the window, anything to get them out of his room. Yet, for some inexplicable reason he lowered his hands, "What is it?"

"I'd like you to take this amulet with you and make your way to the Leviathan's Lair." Without another word the person held out an amulet, its silver surface smooth and void of any markings. Eztli took it despite the warning bells that ran in his head, almost snatching it from the person and hung it about his neck, feeling the cool metal against his skin. When he looked up, the person was gone, not a single trace that they had been there left behind.

Feeling uneasy about the entire exchange Eztli left the inn and asked around to see if anyone knew where this Leviathan's Lair was, most of the people he encountered at this hour told him to go away. The guards he met were a little more helpful, pointing him in the direction of the local Thieves guild. As he neared the building he continued to question the wisdom of his decisions, unable to convince himself that this was a good idea.

He froze as he spotted a man leaving the building the guards had identified as the Thieves Guild's, for the lack of a better word, lair. The man was staring intently at a map. It wasn't the lance or the armor that the man wore that caught Eztli's attention, but the silver amulet that hung around the man's neck, identical to one that he wore. Eztli walked over to the man and cleared his throat, feeling like an idiot, but saying it anyway, "You heading towards the Leviathan's Lair by any chance? Need a traveling companion?"

"Doing something stupid intently is different from doing it without knowing. Which one am I? Neither. I'd prefer to just be called foolish since stupid is quite a childish word."

Sinne traveled for two days, only resting for a few hours in the cover of night. She often stopped near the base of the mountains where the trees could provide shelter along with food. Sinne wasn't interested in the animals though. She never was ever since she was a child. Killing them for others for food would be no problem, but she didn't have anyone like that, so she mostly relied on spare plants she could find that were edible and wouldn't poison her. After living so long in the forest, her knowledge paid off in the end.

After those two days passed, she continued riding. The golden and green plains seemed endless, and the mountains, that always seemed to have been on her left, never opened for her to cross. All she could do was continue riding forward. But she saw hardly anything. Perhaps a few bare houses, mostly old ones that looked untouched for decades. There weren't any villages or towns. It was a tough ride the whole way to find that place. Any place.

Finally, after ten days passing, struggling to keep her energy up and leave space for her horse to rest, they finally arrived at a smaller town. Sinne had no map, so she couldn't tell where she was, but wherever she was, she knew that the same thing had happened to that town as it did to Raphendel. She had no reason to become a threat and casually rode her horse through the open and destroyed gates of the town.

Just as she thought, the people and the buildings were in ruin. It was like a replicated sight of Raphendel, people crushed and shredded by those beasts. Sinne accepted the facts of death though. She couldn't waste anymore time pitying strangers. If she was going to do anything for them, it'd be vengeance. Especially for those people at Raphendel who she considered to be her acquaintances, perhaps even friends. The thought of the faces of those who died that night still haunted her, and Sinne, being a strong woman, shook it off. Pity was going to have to wait.

The people in this town had cleaned up the mess though. Most of the bodies were moved out of the houses and placed in a row on the ground, blankets covering their bodies and faces, though the puddles of blood stained the dirty cloth. Most of the townspeople had dark expressions on their face, and the few who didn't were still trying to handle the other deaths.

Sinne calmly rode up to one of guards who was giving out orders for people to remove a body from one of the houses. After grabbing his attention, she asked, "Where am I?" She had to first figure out where she was before asking any further questions.

"Cesint." The man responded, shouting another argue for the men, who were lifting up the building, to put their back into it since they looked like they were slacking off, apparently. After screaming a few more orders, he then said to Sinne, "But its not exactly the same anymore, as you can see."

"Yeah." Sinne said, taking a glance at the group he was yelling at. They finally managed to pull a body out of the fallen and burned building. It looked like a young teen, and her body looked crushed, broken in half. Her face was only darkened, but not completely ruined, and by the looks of it, she died slowly and painfully. Turning back to the man, she went on, "Mind telling me what happened here?" She already knew, but maybe their town suffered differently.

"Mother nature went out of control around ten nights ago." The man responded, rubbing the back of his neck as his eyes lowered, "There was a strong wind and suddenly a fire broke out in our town. Burned everything, and just when things couldn't get worst the beasts showed up." For a moment, Sinne could have sworn he shivered, "It was nearly impossible to kill them all, and they killed more of us than we did of them. We've been trying to clean up and find the dead ever since."

Sinne nodded slowly and then got off her horse, to the man's surprise and asked cocking her head to the side, "Need any help?"

Ever since, she began to help the town of Cesint. The people there weren't as lively as the ones in Raphendel. She felt a little weird since she was used to acting sarcastic, loud, and joyful, but even in the dark times the people were going through, the townspeople were all very kind. They were older adults in their 40s and 50s, and because they were so mature, Sinne had trouble adjusting to making herself seem a little polite. Usually she wouldn't, but because they had all seen their loved ones die, she thought it was necessary to adjust her personality as she would with many other situations.

A whole night passed and she slept in one of the spare homes with a room that a kind family offered for her after they lost their oldest son. Sinne was hesitant. They all had smiles, but she could see the tears welling up and could tell how long they had been weeping; their eyes looked tired and their noses were still pink.

The next day she did the same to help, but that night, something different happened. Sinne offered to patrol the town to let the man, who she had first talked to, rest. It was late, perhaps near midnight, when she was walking, especially near the wooden gates that were still in the process of being repaired. Any human, animal, or creature could waltz in without anyone's knowing. She wasn't going to let anymore damage happen to the town.

Suddenly, a footstep sounded behind Sinne. It could have been one of the townspeople, but she had to take caution as she immediately raised her lace and getting into a stance that could have easily killed anyone if she didn't hesitate to jolt her lance forwards. It was a hooded figure, and she couldn't tell whether they were a male or female, "Oy, you." She said, not lowering her lance just yet, "You don't look familiar. In fact, you look suspicious. What's your business, eh?" She asked, making a motion for the person to remove their hood.

But the person made no movement at all. Instead, they spoke, in a monotonous, level, and genderless voice, "All I wish is for you to hear me out, Sinne Balof."

She didn't lower her lance though. It was obvious this person wasn't from the town, so how did they get in with the wall surrounding them and without her knowing? Yet they didn't look threatening either, but that was no excuse to lower her guard. While thinking about this, she didn't even know this person had known her whole name, "You can speak, but make any sudden movements and I won't have second thoughts about charging with this." She raised her lance a little higher in a more stable position for a one second kill or injury, only if needed though.

The stranger held out a hand, something silver being inside their grasp. Sinne only caught a flicker of it from the moonlight, but kept her eyes steadied on the person while they began to speak again, "This amulet. I want you to take it to the Leviathan's Lair, and that is all." After seeing a motion to put it on the ground, the stranger tossed it near her.

Sinne looked down to stare at it, observing its details as she did with everything else before she began to speak back to the stranger, "What the hell makes you think I'd actually listen to a single damn word that you're saying-" When she looked up, the stranger was gone. Suspicion rose again, but she finally lowered her lance after a few minutes, finally accepting the fact that the strange had left and was probably not coming back. Sinne took the amulet in her hand, having a huge debate on whether she should actually listen to the stranger. Weird things were happening, and maybe that person was connected to it, somehow. She decided she's finalize her decision in the morning and gripped onto the amulet while continuing her patrol.

The next morning she quickly left, just when the sun had decided to show itself. She had to get a move on, to the Leviathan's Lair. It was a stupid decision, 'But what can I say?' She asked herself, an anxious yet mischievous smile on her face as she led her horse outside of the town, deciding to walk since the animal seemed tired, 'I am a fool after all.'

She continued walking for around two hours, nonstop. Any woman would have collapsed from how quick and how many miles she was covering, but Sinne was strong and different. That's what allowed her to survive in such a world. Along the way of her travels, she saw two figures in the distance. It was such an empty road though, one hardly traveled by. Anyone on that road she had to assume was a threat.

To gain an advantage, in case of any battle, she got back onto her horse. Slowly, she approached the two, her lance gripped tightly in her hand so she could use it in any emergency situation. Sinne planned on just passing the two men but her eyes accidentally strayed as she saw that both of them were wearing the same amulet. The same one she had as well. Suddenly, she stopped her horse and continued to stare, probably seeming a little rude, as she glanced over at the map one of the was holding, 'Exactly where does that lead huh...' She wondered before then speaking out loud, "By what chance do we all have the same artifact, huh?" She asked, holding the amulet in her hand which dangled by its chain, "And by what chance are we all headed to the Leviathan's Lair?" A small smirk formed on Sinne's face.

"To be honest, I knew nothing would be the same when I decided to live as a wanderer, but I never imagined this."

After the horrifying events of November 35th, Evan walked for nearly twelve days straight, sometimes in human form and sometimes in leopard form, but never with a purpose or destination. She passed through several ruined villages and cities, but did not stay more than a few hours, opting to sleep on the outskirts of the mourning cities. She hunted mostly in her animal form and refilled her water canteen whenever she could -which seemed to not be enough for the sheer amount of walking she had been doing. She was in a perpetual daze and her only goal was to reach a city in which families were not grieving and people were not left out on the streets because their houses had collapsed.

On the eleventh night of aimless trekking, Evan had found a small cave that overlooked the great city of Letash. She had been to the city several times before in her exploration. It was a bustling trade center and always brought Evan new jobs and new business connections. However, as she looked out at the city from her position at the mouth of the cavern, she found that where one would normally see parties and secret meetings of thieves, only a few dim lanterns burned on through the night. Buildings had cracked and crumbled during the night of destruction and people were sleeping along the sides of streets with only thin blankets to cover them from the chilled winds that swept through the city. Evan had the feeling that this was far more than just a lull for the city of Letash or for all of Galleinder. She did not know how far the devastation spread, but she knew that the grief and misery would most likely spread like wildfire throughout every realm. Many people seemed to continue on with their daily lives -if they could- but there was little joy anywhere that Evan passed through. Traveling through numerous cities had made her realize that the destruction had not been centered or focused on any one place. And although the levels of destruction varied, everyone seemed to have suffered in some way.

Sleep did not come easy that night in the cave. Evan’s mind continued to wander back to her brother and what may have happened to him. Unable to find restfulness, she decided that no matter what magnitude of tragedy had reached Eloria, she had to find a way to discover what had happened. Evan stayed up for most of that night, planning her course of action. She changed her wandering route slightly and head for the city of Hallnder, the center of Galleinder. There had to be someway of finding out about Eloria in Hallnder. Evan had been conveniently wandering in the city’s direction and only a small shift in her course would put her directly en route to the city.

Evan only got a few hours of sleep before she was woken by the distant, mournful trumpet calls of yet another funeral procession happening down in the city below. She was quick to grab her last slice of bread from her bag, pack the remainder of her supplies into the messenger, and head off before she could hear much more of the sad melody that the trumpeters played. As Evan walked quietly through the forested area that surrounded Letash, the sorrowful song got softer and softer until it completely died away, leaving her to stroll through the forest in tense peace.

By noon that day, Evan finally came through the last line of thick forest and onto a grassy plain that stretched for miles in every direction. Directly ahead of her, Evan saw the city of Hallnder just on the horizon. She took a sip of water from her canteen and dug her bo-staff into the ground in order to give herself a slight push forward.

Evan reached the gates of the Hallnder just as soft, moonlit evening came upon the city. She was eyed warily by the guards before they let her through -oddly enough, without any qualms or request of bag check. Evan was certainly not a suspicious or intimidating looking character, but Evan guessed that everyone was on edge from the events that had recently transpired. As she entered the city, she was hit with a fond memory of her and her brother, Ryan, racing through the streets of Hallnder after a merchant had seen Evan swiping a peach from his cart. It had been one of Evan’s first times stealing and it was one of the best memories she kept of her childhood. The happy memory vanished as a woman dressed in black walked past her, holding a lantern and dabbing her eyes with a handkerchief. It seemed as though the bustling, exciting center of Galleinder had been no exemption to death and destruction.

Most shops and street vendors were closed for the day, but Evan managed to find a kind merchant who was just closing up when he saw the Jumentai coming toward him. Like the good, law-abiding citizen that Evan was, she paid for a loaf of bread and a fresh jar of jam -although the money she used may or may not have been obtained by illegal means. She thanked the man and continued down the street in search of an inn. She would have to go in search of information on Eloria City in the morning.

Noticing that the street she was on was more of a shopping street, Evan decided to check the adjacent street by cutting through a dark, hidden alleyway. She shifted only her eyes to be that of a leopard so that she could see as she padded quietly through the alley. She was halfway down the passage when her hypersensitivity ears pricked at the sound of something behind her. Evan turned and crouched in a fighting stance with her bo-staff pointing in the general direction of the noise. There seemed to be no one behind her, but Evan knew that she had heard something. Her ears did not lie. She bared her slightly pointed teeth and growled out lowly, “Show yourself.”

Just as she finished speaking the word ‘yourself’ a black cloaked figure stepped from the shadows and came forward. Evan’s tail flicked with both anger and adrenaline, but she kept her stance firm as the figure came even closer. It came only about a foot in front of her staff and then stopped altogether. ”I mean no harm, Evanari T’Eeka.”

However concerned that Evan was with the fact that this thing, she was even more concerned with how she could either incapacitating it or forcing it to leave. Evan was about to tell the person that getting out of there was in their best interest when the person’s hand shot out from under the cloak. In the palm of the hand was a smooth, silver amulet that reflected the solitary beam of moonlight coming down through the gap between the adjacent buildings. Evan furrowed a brow at the silver amulet as the cloaked figure continued to speak. ”All I ask is that you bring this to the Leviathan's Lair.”

Evan was in a bit of shock at this random request from a complete stranger. She was about to deny the talisman when a noise came from behind her. She swiveled her head to look behind her only to see that nothing was there. And when she turned her head back around to make sure the cloaked person did not try anything stupid, the person were gone, vanished from all of Evan’s heightened senses -hearing, sight, and smell. The silver amulet was left on the ground in front of her and after a moment of confusion mixed with suspicion, Evan picked the charm up, flipping it over several times in the palm of her hand. She placed it in her pocket and cautiously and quietly made her way down the rest of the alleyway and back onto the streets of the city where she searched for several minutes before finally finding a small inn to stay the night in.

Again, restless sleep found Evan that night as her thoughts were far too jumbled from the days of trekking and the odd happenings of only a few minutes ago. Maybe the man was a completely crazy old man, but then there was no explanation as to how he had vanished so quickly and so completely. Maybe there was some supernatural force that wanted Evan to do their bidding, but then again, Evan didn’t believe in any of that religious mumbo-jumbo. These and more muddled, confusing thoughts ran through Evan’s mind as she fell into a light, tense sleep.

The next morning, Evan woke just as the sun broke out over the horizon. She tried to fall back asleep for a few more hours, but she found herself only getting frustrated when she could not close her eyes again. She simply had to know about the Leviathan's Lair. She quickly changed into another outfit and then left out the window of her room before the innkeeper even knew that she had left. He had seemed like a nice enough man when Evan had met him late that night, but she rarely paid for anything that did not absolutely require her to.

Evan started down the streets of Hallnder just as the merchants began to open their carts and the shopkeepers began opening their doors so as to let customers know that they were open. As she walked down the street, Evan played with the smooth amulet that she had been given. She had no idea where to start looking for the Leviathan's Lair in a city of this size. She came upon the Thieve’s Guild and smiled fondly, but decided not to stop to check it out. She had to find the Leviathan's Lair wherever it may be. Evan looked down at the amulet she had been playing with it and flipped it over several times, examining it closely in case there were any hints as to where this Lair might be. She failed to even realize she had been listening to the people around her until her ears pricked as she offhandedly heard a female voice say, ”... headed to the Leviathan's Lair...” Evan stopped in her tracks and glanced over to see a group consisting of a Jumentai, a human man, and a woman on a horse all three of which seemed to be staring at a map that the man was carrying. It simply could not have been a coincidence that this woman was also going to the Leviatnan's Lair. Evan's thoughts were confirmed when she caught a glimpse of the shiny silver talisman dangling from the woman’s grasp. These people must have been given them the previous night as well.

Evan brought the hand carrying the amulet up to her forehead and rubbed her temples as if she were getting a headache. Perhaps this entire thing was more trouble than it was worth. Maybe, Evan thought, she should just drop the amulet and go looking for information on Eloria like she had planned. Despite her conflicting thoughts, curiosity got the best of her and Evan found herself padding softly up to the group, her bare feet making almost no sound on the cobblestone. As she drew nearer to the group, she began to feel angry at the fact that someone had purposely gathered them together with absolutely no explanation as to what they wanted or why they wanted it.

When Evan finally approached the group, she stayed a few feet away from the strangers and drove her bo-staff into the cobblestone in order to make herself known in case they had not noticed her. Evan’s long tail flicked back and forth as she furrowed her brow and held up her silver amulet as well, allowing it to dangle by the chain as the woman was doing. ”Eh, any o' you wanna explain what’s going on here?” Evan said lowly, but loud enough for them to hear over the other people around them.

"I have endeavored to better myself to the best of my ability, but my limits, both mental and physical, are constantly changing. I often wonder if I have what it takes to truly change myself for the better...

Tiro was just finishing looking at the map again when he heard a voice calling to him. He turned his head and saw that it was a Jumentai of the feline category. A long tail and small fluffy cat-like ears on his head. Tiro guessed he was some kind of predatory cat given the patterns of the fur, but he was no expert so he couldn't tell exactly what he was. When the Jumentai was inquiring about the Leviathan's Lair and if he needed a traveling companion, Tiro decided to answer.

"Well I-" He began, his mouth still open to speak when another voice cut through.

"By what chance do we all have the same artifact, huh?" She asked, holding the amulet in her hand which dangled by its chain, "And by what chance are we all headed to the Leviathan's Lair?"

Tiro closed his mouth and turned to see a woman on a horse with a lance at her back. Her outfit was quite exotic, and Tiro had to admit that seeing a fellow Lancer was a nice change given all that he'd seen lately. Despite her somewhat less than traditional feminine appearance, he felt a sort of instant kinship with a practitioner of the lance arts.

"We are in-" He began once again, and again, being cut off.

”Eh, any o' you wanna explain what’s going on here?” Came another female voice.

Tiro looked over and saw another Jumentai approaching. She has the same kind of feline appearance as the first, which was interesting. He almost wanted to ask if there was some kind of relationship between the two, but given her obvious lack of enthusiasm to be here, he doubted it.

"Well..." He began, before looking left and right to make sure nobody else was approaching to cut him off again.

"I can't say for sure I know what's going on, but what I do is that when I saw that sky open up and those creatures descend on this world it was the strangest and most unnatural thing I've ever seen. For whatever reason they seemed to ignore me. Only two of them came after me at all while the rest attacked my village. We lost about a third of the entire population in that one night."

He looked over at the woman on the horse.

"You are correct in guessing that I am going to the Leviathan's Lair and I do have that same amulet." He said, holding the one around his neck up for her to see more clearly.

"I don't know what it's for or why I was given it, but there seems to be no way of opening it unless there is magic involved in some way." He looked back to the male Jumentai.

"A traveling companion would be nice, actually. I traveled here alone after my village was attacked, and it's been less than pleasant only having my own thoughts and frustration for company. I'd welcome anyone who wants to go with me to see this through, no matter how strange it may seem." He said.

He opened up the map and walked towards the woman on the horse and the female Jumentai, holding it out for them to see.

"The Leviathan's Lair seems to be some kind of mountain fortress, but how we get to it is not yet known to me as it's deep within the mountains of the Heaven's Crown and they don't seem to have a way of reaching them on foot. Then again, my experience with a map is limited so if you'd care to take a look and see if you can spot a pathway that I missed, then please feel free. Again, I'll welcome any help I can get." He said, trying to sound optimistic and pleasant.

"I'm Tiro, by the way. My full name is Tyaralsir Estheim, but most just call me Tiro. Might I ask the names of my new brothers and sisters in the quest for the Leviathan's Lair?" He asked.

"Why is it that life can't ever just be predictable? Why does it have to turn around and bite us in the ass?"

The man looked up to face Eztli, the slightest hint of confusion entering his eyes as they landed on Eztli's ears. One of his hands reached up to scratch his head, was the man trying to guess his animal counterpart... or what a Jumentai was doing around here? Either way the man opened his mouth to answer when a female voice cut him off.

"By what chance do we all have the same artifact, huh?" She asked, holding the amulet in her hand which dangled by its chain, "And by what chance are we all headed to the Leviathan's Lair?"

Eztli blinked and took in the woman's appearance, eyes locking on the amulet that hung from her grasp. She sat astride a horse, a lance strapped across her back. With a frown he turned to look at the man and noticed a similar weapon strapped across his own back... What were the odds?

The man with the map opened his mouth once more to answer when yet another voice interrupted him. "Eh, any o' you wanna explain what’s going on here?"

Eztli would have laughed at the absurdity of the constant interruptions if it weren't for the fact that he wanted to hear the man's response. He turned to face the latest addition to their group and almost did a double-take. If he had been taken aback by the fact that he had come across two lancers today with the same amulet as him, now he was downright baffled... Two feline Jumentai and two lancers... each with one male and one female... Seriously, what were the odds?!

From what he could see of the Jumentai woman's animal indicators she was some sort of Leopard.. what species exactly, he wasn't sure.

Maybe Eztli should have just stayed at the inn and continued to sleep... this entire meeting was getting to be a bit too odd for him. At least the inn had a comfortable mattress...

Eztli was pulled out of his thoughts when the man spoke once more, pausing to make sure that there would be no more interruptions before he continued.

Eztli's stomach churned, the mentioning of the monsters causing the images of his dead employees to dominate his thoughts. He forced them out, idly wondering if anyone had found their bodies and given them a proper burial. He froze as a part of his short tale caught his attention, only two of the demons attacked him? Eztli remembered countless of the monsters piling through their camp, Eztli tearing through many... if only a fraction of them. A sight frown worked its way onto his face, would that many have attacked him if he had been with a larger group.. or maybe it had something to do with the fact that he purposely sought them to try and save those around him. Either way, it appeared that this man managed to get away with minimal confrontations.

He turned to the woman on the horse, "You are correct in guessing that I am going to the Leviathan's Lair and I do have that same amulet." He paused to raise the silver amulet that hung from his neck before continuing, "I don't know what it's for or why I was given it, but there seems to be no way of opening it unless there is magic involved in some way."

Eztli raised his own amulet to look at it, noting for the first time that it appeared to open. He cocked his head and tried prizing it open, yet as predicted by the man, the metal wouldn't budge. He dropped it, momentarily defeated as the man turned to him, finally answering the question that he'd asked, "A traveling companion would be nice, actually. I traveled here alone after my village was attacked, and it's been less than pleasant only having my own thoughts and frustration for company. I'd welcome anyone who wants to go with me to see this through, no matter how strange it may seem."

Eztli nodded, he could understand the man's point of view... in a case like this, beggar's couldn't be choosers. He was about to answer, but the man had already reopened the map and walked over to the two women, "The Leviathan's Lair seems to be some kind of mountain fortress, but how we get to it is not yet known to me as it's deep within the mountains of the Heaven's Crown and they don't seem to have a way of reaching them on foot. Then again, my experience with a map is limited so if you'd care to take a look and see if you can spot a pathway that I missed, then please feel free. Again, I'll welcome any help I can get."

Eztli walked over to inspect the map, from what he could see, and his map knowledge was sketchy at best -he usually just took directions- there was no path through the mountains, but he decided to speak up anyway, "Who knows.. there may be a game trail or something that winds through the mountains... as far as I know, they wouldn't be put on the map."

Eztli leaned back, hoping that one of the girls would know more about maps. He turned to the man as he identified himself as Tiro... his full name sounded like it would hurt trying to say, "I'm Tiro, by the way. My full name is Tyaralsir Estheim, but most just call me Tiro. Might I ask the names of my new brothers and sisters in the quest for the Leviathan's Lair?"

Eztli grinned, holding out his hand, "Pleasure to meet you Tiro, name's Eztli Necalli."

"Doing something stupid intently is different from doing it without knowing. Which one am I? Neither. I'd prefer to just be called foolish since stupid is quite a childish word."

"We are in-"

”Eh, any o' you wanna explain what’s going on here?”

By the minute, more people came into view, and while this happened, Sinne began to observe everyone in her sight. There were two men, one with ears and another in armor, and a woman who also had ears. She took note of how odd it was that she and one of the males were both Lancers while there were also two Jumentai. She wanted to laugh, but only held it back by leaking a strange smile while she thought, 'Huh. Some convenience...' Not to mentinon, she had a guess that they were all going to the same area, as the location was mentioned twice and they all had the same amulet.

"Well..." The man in armor began, checking his surroundings for someone else who'd interrupt him which really did make Sinne burst out laughing for a spare moment, "I can't say for sure I know what's going on, but what I do is that when I saw that sky open up and those creatures descend on this world it was the strangest and most unnatural thing I've ever seen. For whatever reason they seemed to ignore me. Only two of them came after me at all while the rest attacked my village. We lost about a third of the entire population in that one night."

Just after that moment, the small smile on Sinne's face suddenly disappeared. The images of all those horrid and dead faces of the good men and women she knew in that town. Instead, she frowned and muttered silently, "We... We lost a lot of people in the town I stayed at... The same thing happened; abnormal weather, then fire spread everywhere, and the next minute these beasts begin to kill anything they can lay their eyes on. Where I come from lost at least half of my people. But I'd rather not talk about that." She sighed, running her hand through her messy and wavy dark hair.

"A traveling companion would be nice, actually. I traveled here alone after my village was attacked, and it's been less than pleasant only having my own thoughts and frustration for company. I'd welcome anyone who wants to go with me to see this through, no matter how strange it may seem."

"I'm sure that's how it is for all of us." Her blue eyes darted at each face that belonged in the small group, "You all don't look too bad. I'm sure I wouldn't mind any company either, although I'll guarantee you that I will separate if anyone drags me down." She shrugged, the same smile belonging to a fool still showing on her face, "Although, if you don't take this personally, I'll be glad to be accompanied by you all."

After she finished talking, deciding to get of the horse as she realized that she had no need for an advantage in battle since the people around her didn't seem to be looking for a fight. She also loosened her grip on her lance, and eventually let go of it. Just then, the man in armor approached her and the female Jumentai, "The Leviathan's Lair seems to be some kind of mountain fortress, but how we get to it is not yet known to me as it's deep within the mountains of the Heaven's Crown and they don't seem to have a way of reaching them on foot. Then again, my experience with a map is limited so if you'd care to take a look and see if you can spot a pathway that I missed, then please feel free. Again, I'll welcome any help I can get."

"Who knows.. there may be a game trail or something that winds through the mountains... as far as I know, they wouldn't be put on the map." The male Jumentai.

Sinne took a look at the map. It looked familiar, but Sinne had no map for most of her travels and didn't even care where she was headed. Sinne was a traveler, but she liked the idea of going somewhere she never found. It was always best to get lost to find some place never found before, is what she always thought. The more she studied the map, she shook her head, "Sorry. I've always traveled my whole life without a map. I doubt I'd recognize one now..." She said before then glancing at the male Jumentai, "But I do know something, and that's just as he said. There are always game trails, and hardly any maps I've seen in my life. Unfortunate to say, I doubt we'll know the pinpoint of the Leviathan's Lair unless we search the mountain." Sinne looked at the map again, but hopelessly just grumbled.

"I'm Tiro, by the way. My full name is Tyaralsir Estheim, but most just call me Tiro. Might I ask the names of my new brothers and sisters in the quest for the Leviathan's Lair?"

"Pleasure to meet you Tiro, name's Eztli Necalli."

Sinne looked at the both of them and said casually, shaking Eztli's hand first, as it was offered, and then grabbing Tiro's, despite it being at his side. What could she say? She was no regular woman. With a childish grin, she said, "Pleasure to meet the both of you, Tiro and Eztli. Balof." She began with her first name, "Sinne, Balof. I'll be looking forward to this trip together, yes? Let us all try to get along during this trip, though you may find that hard to do with me around." She smirked a bit as she let go of both their hands and turned towards the female Jumentai, "And you?"

"To be honest, I knew nothing would be the same when I decided to live as a wanderer, but I never imagined this."

Convinced that the three had gotten a good look at the amulet, Evan twirled the chain around two of her fingers and grabbed the charm in the palm of her hand. The armored man looked around himself as if to see if anyone else was coming. Evan was slightly confused by this action, but showed nothing on her face as he finally spoke. "I can't say for sure I know what's going on, but what I do know is that when I saw that sky open up and those creatures descend on this world it was the strangest and most unnatural thing I've ever seen. For whatever reason they seemed to ignore me. Only two of them came after me at all while the rest attacked my village. We lost about a third of the entire population in that one night."

At the man's words, Evan's ears turned backwards and flattened a nearly undetectable amount. That little Faerie... Evan had just left her body there... She should have done something. If only just bury the body. Evan looked to the ground, picking at her bo-staff absentmindedly with her index finger. This epidemic must have been pretty widespread. What did that mean for Eloria City? Was her brother safe? Evan was pulled promptly out of her thoughts as the other woman in the group spoke quietly, "We lost a lot of people in the town I stayed at... The same thing happened; abnormal weather, then fire spread everywhere, and the next minute these beasts begin to kill anything they can lay their eyes on. Where I come from lost at least half of my people. But I'd rather not talk about that."

Evan turned her head to the side and looked at the woman. "It's the same in city of Eiskn. Whole thing burned."

Attention was then turned to the male Jumentai who, unsurprisingly, also held up an amulet in his hand and then to the human man who spoke once more. "A traveling companion would be nice, actually. I traveled here alone after my village was attacked, and it's been less than pleasant only having my own thoughts and frustration for company. I'd welcome anyone who wants to go with me to see this through, no matter how strange it may seem."

The woman atop the horse said something similar, agreeing with the man about traveling together. Evan was a bit less comfortable with this arrangement, but did not get the chance to speak up as the man reopened his map and walked toward Evan and the other woman, holding it open to show them a spot marked with an "X" on the map. Again, I'll welcome any help I can get."

The woman grumbled at the sight of the map and the other Jumentai said something about following game trails, but Evan was already rolling her eyes and not listening. In truth, game trails, sheer memorization of the lands, and her five senses were mostly what Evan went off of, but she still kept her hidden secret in the depths of her leather satchel. She held back a scoff at the man's puny map as he introduced himself.

"I'm Tiro, by the way. My full name is Tyaralsir Estheim, but most just call me Tiro. Might I ask the names of my new brothers and sisters in the quest for the Leviathan's Lair?" Evan squinted and shook her head at the man. Why had he asked it like that and why -in the gods' good names- was he simply assuming that everyone would go along for the ride? Evan was taken aback as the male Jumentai stepped up rather quickly with his hand extended. "Pleasure to meet you Tiro, name's Eztli Necalli." Evan opened her mouth to speak, but was cut off by the woman who shook Eztli's hand and then forcefully took Tiro's hand in her own before introducing herself with a childish grin. "Pleasure to meet the both of you, Tiro and Eztli. Balof. Sinne, Balof. I'll be looking forward to this trip together, yes? Let us all try to get along during this trip, though you may find that hard to do with me around." The woman then proceed to smirk down at Evan whose tail flicked back and forth. "And you?"

Evan looked at the three faces seriously for about two seconds before bursting out in a moment of laughter. She composed herself, but kept an amused smirk on her face. These people were all just going to trust each other? To Evan, that was absolutely absurd and she thought that they might be sarcastically joking around. However, as Evan composed herself she realized that they were all serious and her face dropped before she mumbled under her breath "Wait... you're serious?"

Evan's amused smile creeped back onto her face as she spoke to them again. "Look, it's not that I ain't charmed by the offer... 'cause I am," she said in a mock-serious tone and then continued in a lower, more mumbled voice, "It's just that... I prefer travelin' alone. Ya know?"

Evan paused and stuck a hand into her satchel, producing a rolled, weather-beaten parchment from her bag. She then proceeded to slide closer to the armored man -Tiro- placing two fingers on the map that he held. "But..." she sang, "If I could just see this for a moment, that'd be fantastic." With that Evan snatched the paper from his hands and glanced at it for only a moment before tossing it haphazardly back into his hands. "Boinave," she mumbled under her breath, meaning "Thank you" in Junmec Kiai. She did not speak it fluently, but words like "Please" and "Thank you" were just words that she had somehow become accustomed to using the Junmec Kiai equivalent for.

Evan turned from the group, her lengthy tail barely missing the legs of one or all of the group's members. She then proceeded to tuck her bo-staff under her arm and unfurl the parchment she held, revealing a widespread map of the realm of Galleinder. Sections of it were marked with various colors and symbols that it seemed only the younger Evan who had marked it would ever understand. Since she had become far more experienced in traveling in recent years, the map had more often seen the bottom of her bag rather than the light of day, but it still held good use as well as great memories of her earlier years. In those years, this map had been her guide while traveling throughout the realm. Evan could no longer understand much of what she had written, but she remembered somethings such as blue circles marked unmapped watering holes and red triangles with 'X's through them marked villages that she could no longer show her face in -lest she be imprisoned.

Evan smiled fondly at the memories the map held and then quickly began to search for the mountains which had been marked on Tiro's map. Spotting the range, Evan furrowed her brow. By the looks of the map, she had clearly traveled past those and had written a note near the mountains. However, the ink that she had written it in was smudged slightly and was illegible. Evan knew from experience that there were normally canyons that snaked through the mountains. They were sometimes treacherous, but if this lair was deep in the mountains, then it would be the best bet. Evan nearly cursed herself at the realization that it might be a good idea to travel with a group.

After taking a few moments to think it over, Evan sighed in frustration and grabbed her bo-staff from under her arm. She turned swiftly on her heels, her tail whipping around once more. Evan glared at each member of the small group before sighing heavily. "Evan," she said short and simply, giving the group her name while also letting them know that she was serious about traveling. "I 'pologize f'r the bit of rudeness there," she spoke, gesturing to Tiro's map, "But I realize it's probably best for us t' travel together." Evan tried her absolute best to make her words not sound like they had been ground out, but she knew that some of the malice showed through and she bowed her head in a quick apology.

Evan narrowed her eyes at the group as if daring them to say anything about her swift mind change. She said no more on the subject and unfurled her own map once more, holding it open for them to see the marked parchment. "That treasure map you're carrying 's pretty useless," she said, once again offhandedly pointing to Tiro's own map. She the pointed at the Heaven's Crown mountains on her own and continued to speak, "I wrote somethin' 'ere once, but it's smudged now, so it's useless. But ya see this purple thingy 'ere?" Evan paused and pointed to a symbol just east of the mountain range that looked to be a square with the letter 'Z' written over it. "That means that there was some sorta river crossin'." There was no river marked on the map, but Evan was absolutely sure that that symbol was for a river crossing. She continued to speak, wondering if they were catching all of this or if they thought she was a crazy leopardess. "And, if there's a river that close to the mountains, then it's probably the river goes through the mountains. Which means easier travel and a constant water supply."

"I have endeavored to better myself to the best of my ability, but my limits, both mental and physical, are constantly changing. I often wonder if I have what it takes to truly change myself for the better...

A lot was going on in the course of a few minutes, and Tiro was having trouble keeping up.

The female Jumentai, named Evan, was something of an... interesting case. She was somewhat obnoxious, rude, and almost seemed to have a light air of arrogance about her. Questioning everyone about whether or not they were serious rubbed Tiro the wrong way. They all just met, and under normal circumstances Tiro wouldn't trust these kinds of people either so quickly, but these were far from normal circumstances.

Tiro knew who he was, and he knew that whomever those people were who chose him and gave him his amulet would not have done so if they didn't believe he would be of use and be someone worth looking for. If these people had the amulets as well and the same cryptic orders Tiro received, then in Tiro's mind that meant that despite personality differences they all held something akin to one another that would give them all similar reasons to have been chosen in the first place. To Tiro, if they were chosen together, then they should stick together. Strange circumstances or no, these people all had reasons to trust one another even if Evan couldn't see that.

When she had finished talking, Tiro looked to Eztli and Sinne.

"... Okay then..." He said softly.

"Well, if we're all in agreement, then I suggest we head out. The journey to the Heaven's Crown is going to take about two and a half to three months depending on weather and other factors."

Tiro looked at his map one more time before putting it away and giving a soft sigh and looking at each member of his new traveling group in turn.

"I am going to go find myself a horse at the local stables for the journey ahead. Head to the east gate and get on the road. I'll catch up to you guys in a few hours. This journey will take about three to four months depending on weather and other factors that could arise. With any luck the trip will be uneventful, but if its not then make sure you're prepared for anything at all times. I've never heard of anyone running into trouble on these roads, but after what we saw a few days ago there's no telling what could happen from here on out." He said.

With that, Tiro gave everyone a nod and left their company to find himself a ride.

"Why is it that life can't ever just be predictable? Why does it have to turn around and bite us in the ass?"

Eztli raised an eyebrow at the woman that introduced herself as Evan. She seemed rude, arrogant and completely distrusting those around her. Granted, they knew nothing about each other save their names. Under normal circumstances Eztli would never just simply agree to go on a cross-country journey with three complete strangers... but things had changed, and it seemed that they were chosen for something... And they probably wouldn't get the choice to just ignore the request... as much as they all seemed to have found themselves in this city although Eztli had often almost turned to head home only to have that odd... pulling sensation... had redirected his course pack in the direction of this city.

He turned to Evan, raising an eyebrow as she pulled out her map, the odd symbols and shaded areas that decorated its surface tugging at his curiosity.

It wasn't long before Tiro declared he was off to get himself a horse for their journey that would apparently take several months. Eztli sighed and rubbed his face, ears flattening themselves slightly as the tip of his tail flicked... This would be fun.

He sighed and turned to the two women that would be joining them on their journey. Obviously Sinne would probably head straight for the East Gate, Evan though, he was unsure of. He scratched behind his ear, he didn't have enough money for a horse, besides... he preferred walking.

"You two heading straight for the gate?" He raised an eyebrow as he shoved his hands into his pockets.

"Doing something stupid intently is different from doing it without knowing. Which one am I? Neither. I'd prefer to just be called foolish since stupid is quite a childish word."

"Wait... you're serious?" The female Jumentai looked at the group as if they were crazy. Sinne looked back at her, but with a much more casual expression though, wondering what the problem was.

"Look, it's not that I ain't charmed by the offer... 'cause I am, It's just that... I prefer travelin' alone. Ya know?"

"Oh don't worry, I'm not going to be trusting any of you people too much." Sinne said, but while her words were a little harsh and rude, she still wore a regular funny grin on her face, "I'm quite an independent person as well, but I do get a feeling that all of us being told the same location and having the same relic is quite odd, and by no coincidence." She told them, letting her arm rest on her horse that didn't seem bothered by anything at all. But then the woman's expression lowered and she looked a bit serious for a mere moment, "But I don't think that this can be accomplished alone, whatever it is. So I'll put some of my trust in you all, including you." She ridiculed the young woman with ears and chuckled.

In the end though, she seemed to have agreed to accompany the group in their travels. Sinne was glad she conceded to her final decision. Sinne was never a fan of people unless they were apart of groups that she knew, such as the people who were wiped out that one night. But those people were gone, so she was done with trusting and accepting people completely. At least, for now she was.

The female Jumentai she then knew as Evan took the map from Tiro and began to search it just as she did. She had no luck finding anything, obviously, and began to try and remember if she had even gone that way before, if she remembered any slightest tracks that led to a certain area or place that was undiscovered. This took her mind of all that was going on outside of her thoughts, and when she finally came to, she just heard, "And, if there's a river that close to the mountains, then it's probably the river goes through the mountains. Which means easier travel and a constant water supply."

"Sounds good to me." Sinne stated, not needing to have heard the rest of what Evan had said. After all, none of the others, including herself, had any ideas of what they should do, so Evan was their only lead and that was something, at the very least.

"Well, if we're all in agreement, then I suggest we head out. The journey to the Heaven's Crown is going to take about two and a half to three months depending on weather and other factors." Tiro stated, which Sinne took into mind, though the thoughts of weather issues didn't bother her too much, as she had travelled in storms and heavy rains along with burning temperatures.

"That won't bother me." Sinne shrugged, "In my case, weather won't be an issue, but for the rest of you," She cleared her throat with a small scoff, "Lets just pray the sky stays clear the next few months."

"I am going to go find myself a horse at the local stables for the journey ahead. Head to the east gate and get on the road. I'll catch up to you guys in a few hours. This journey will take about three to four months depending on weather and other factors that could arise. I've never heard of anyone running into trouble on these roads, but after what we saw a few days ago there's no telling what could happen from here on out."

"Yes, sir." The black haired woman said with a horrible and lazy salute, "Then we'll be seeing you soon. Have a good ol' safe trip on the way there and back, and make sure to pick a horse that won't buck you off." She laughed and got on her own horse and waving unconcernedly.

After he was out of her thoughts, she focused back on the other two next to her, the two Jumentai, "You two heading straight for the gate?" Eztil asked.

Sinne patted her horse on her neck, stroking down her mane gently and saying, "Well, I definitely am. I've already got a ride and could start heading there right now." She then gripped her reins and looked down at the two, "I've got room on the back of Alenon for one more, if one of the two of you need the ride. Or perhaps both of you prefer heading there on foot?" She cocked her head to the side.

"To be honest, I knew nothing would be the same when I decided to live as a wanderer, but I never imagined this."

"Well, if we're all in agreement, then I suggest we head out. The journey to the Heaven's Crown is going to take about two and a half to three months depending on weather and other factors." Evan couldn't help the small sigh at Tiro's words. She had known that it would take a rather long time to get there, but hearing the time in words nearly made her turn around. However, she had already agreed and her curiosity had already been piqued by who or what had caused this mass slaughter across the land. In any case, Eloria City was on the route that they would take and she had planned to travel there for information on her brother.

Evan's head turned to the woman on the horse, Sinne, "That won't bother me. In my case, weather won't be an issue, but for the rest of you, lets just pray the sky stays clear the next few months."

Evan gave a low, throaty grumble at Sinne's words. What was that supposed to mean anyway? 'If this chick keep actin' like this, I swear...' Evan thought to herself, but her thoughts were cut off as Tiro spoke again, "I am going to go find myself a horse at the local stables for the journey ahead. Head to the east gate and get on the road. I'll catch up to you guys in a few hours. This journey will take about three to four months depending on weather and other factors that could arise. I've never heard of anyone running into trouble on these roads, but after what we saw a few days ago there's no telling what could happen from here on out."

Evan nodded in acknowledgement of the statement. As Tire headed off, she opened the flap of her satchel and looked inside. She had her other bo-staff folded up, a knife, a winter cloak and boots in case of colder temperatures, a spare set of clothing, that she had stolen on her journey to the city, and a few other supplies. Convinced that she was already set for the journey, she nodded at Eztil's question, "You two heading straight for the gate?"

Evan was about to speak, but Sinne spoke first "Well, I definitely am. I've already got a ride and could start heading there right now."

"I've got everything I need. There's a few towns on the way that we can stop at if necessary, but let's hope it's not. There's also the city of Eloria on the route that we can stop at." Evan planned on stopping there regardless of whether or not the rest of them wanted to; however, she would not tell them that until they had travelled closer to the city.

"I've got room on the back of Alenon for one more, if one of the two of you need the ride. Or perhaps both of you prefer heading there on foot?" Sinne spoke again.

Evan refrained from telling the woman that she hated horses to no end, but instead she chuckled and looked down at her currently bare feet. "Thanks, but I prefer foot." Evan chuckled and then continued, "Or paw, ya know."

Evan paused and looked between the two of them. "Well, I guess we better get goin' and meet Tiro at the gate. Evan threw her leather bag over her head so that it went across her chest for better security. She then drove her bo-staff into the ground, flicked her tail once of twice and then headed in the direction of the city's gate with Eztli and Sinne.

"Why is it that life can't ever just be predictable? Why does it have to turn around and bite us in the ass?"

Unsurprisingly to him, both Evan and Sinne decided to head off to the gates straight away, Evan declaring that she preffered to go on foot. Sinne offered to give another person a ride should they require it. Eztli shook his head, "No thanks, I feel better with both feet on the ground."

He chuckled slightly before cutting off the sound, feeling like an idiot. There was nothing funny about what he said... he would probably be better off if he just shut up now and start walking before they thought he had a couple screws loose. Rubbing the back of his neck he readjusted the straps of his bag on his shoulders before following Evan as she began the trip to the Eastern gate.

He sped up his stride till he walked beside her, slowing as he matched his pace to hers. He looked around the city streets as they walked, watching the few people that walked about, going about their business. Crossing his arms he turned towards the other two.

"Since we'll be spending so much time together. We might as well get to know each other... Right?" He swallowed, "So, where are you two from? I'm from a town called Chulak in the kingdom Jirda ai in Jun irda.."

They would need to be able to rely on each other in the next few months, and Eztli knew that he couldn't ever truly trust someone he knew nothing about. At least this way, they would at least know more about each other than just names. Though something told him they may not be so eager to reveal anything.

"To be honest, I knew nothing would be the same when I decided to live as a wanderer, but I never imagined this."

Evan kept her gaze forward as Eztli sped up in order to match her stride. As the male Jumantai looked around the city, Evan noticed a group of wealthy looking elves walking toward them. As they passed Evan, she did a quick peripheral check to make sure that Eztli was not looking before quickly reaching her hand in and out of one of the passing elf's pocket. The man continued on his way and Evan quickly stuffed the coins she had grabbed into her own satchel, before turning back to Eztli who was now crossing his arms and looking at Evan and Sinne.

"Since we'll be spending so much time together." Evan sighed, wanting to say something along the lines of 'Don't remind me', but she restrained herself and allowed Eztli to continue. "We might as well get to know each other... Right?" Once again, Evan restrained herself from snorting at the Jumantai's statement. "So, where are you two from? I'm from a town called Chulak in the kingdom Jirda ai in Jun irda.."

"I was born in the Dekm' Kingdom in Radc' Selim," Evan paused and gave a low chuckle as she continued in a mumbled voice, "But I don't know if I'd call that home." Evan picked at her staff and flicked her tail once as she looked back up to Eztli, getting the feeling that this guy was already getting more of her backstory than she was comfortable with. She hadn't even given them a full name and yet they now knew the kingdom that she was born in. It was an awkward situation for Evan to say the least. Instead of saying anything else on the subject, Evan turned her head to look over at Sinne with an expectant look. If Evan was giving a pair of perfect strangers any information on herself, she expected to get the same amount of information from them.
