Description

Bai Toris

ImageGender
Female
"I can give you proof but it'll cost 'ya."

Age
19
"I may be young, but that doesn't make me any less capable."

Hair
Bai's hair is strawberry blonde, it was once quite dark, but her time in the air has exposed it to the sun, thus bleaching it quite a bit. It hangs long and straight, reaching just below her butt. She takes pride in the fact that she hasn't cut it in years, except for her bangs. She cuts her bangs herself quite regularly. However she usually does it quickly and without much care, leaving her bangs choppy and uneven, and often sticking out in various places. Bai doesn't mind, she believes that it gives her hair character and a life of its own. She usually wears it down, though she does braid the longest parts of her bangs on both sides. She loves her hair a lot, and often strokes it or runs her fingers through it for comfort if she's upset. She loves it when people play with her hair, and it's not uncommon for her to force her patients to braid it or comb it, claiming that it's 'therapeutic'.
"Would you like to play with my hair?"

Eyes
Eyes as blue as the sky that they soar through. Bai's eyes are very bright and sparkling. However, they are also very sensitive and while she loves to be out in the sun, she usually has to wear a hat or a pair of glasses to protect them.
"Has anyone seen my sunglasses, I thought I put them over here..."

Body Type
Appearance wise, Bai looks much younger than she actually is. In fact, many people often mistake the young girl for being fifteen or sixteen years old rather than nineteen. She's very petite, her body being slender and lithe. She wasn't graced with womanly curves and bust, but rather the body of a developing young woman. She doesn't mind, she knows that despite the shortcomings of not having the envied hourglass figure, her body is very graceful and beautiful. She's very flexible, and despite appearing very fragile, Bai is strong enough and skilled enough to hold her own if she were to get into a fight, though she'd much rather stay away from such things. Still, she knows how to use her apparent break-ablity and innocence to her advantage if someone were to underestimate her during a fight.
"I may look fragile, but I can hold my own if I want to. Go on, try me!"

Clothes
Bai likes to dress comfortably and will often wear long skirts and dresses when she can. She enjoys wearing white and most of her wardrobe is made up of the color along with other pale colors like pinks and blues because they accentuate her light skin, eyes, and hair. For her feet, she can often be found wearing white boots that lace all the way up her shins and stop just below her knees. She is aware that her thin sundresses and skirts are usually not the most practical when it comes to the cold air of the high skies, so she usually mooches jackets and gloves off of other crew members. All in all, Bai's appearance is very contradictory to the normal stereotype of pirates, but she's proud of that fact and she loves the look on people's faces when they realize that the small, angelic girl is a sky pirate.
"It's funny, they're always like, 'wha? This little pipsqueak's one of you?', it's great!"

Image
Personality
Bubbly and kind, Bai has no problems with making friends with any type of person. She's a very selfless girl and likes to help around the ship when she doesn't have someone that she needs to tend to. She's very intelligent and is a smooth talker, able to make someone believe just about anything that she tells them, something that she learned from living on the streets of the island she lived on for much of her life.
She has a big mouth and often says things without thinking first and she has no problem with speaking her opinions as well, though she has no problem with sugar coating things to make them sound better which goes along with the fact that Bai's also a chronic liar. She has a sweet face, but she has no problem with telling lies when she sees in necessary, however she absolutely NEVER lies when it comes to diagnosis or anything medical. In fact, when she's on the job is the only time that you can be sure that she's being completely straight with you.
Bai likes to kid and joke around and will often try to lighten the mood of the crew on a bad day with jokes or sarcasm, something that she speaks quite fluently. She's very caring with the crew and considers them all family, the family that she wished she had when she was younger. Despite her lying problem, she makes it known that she can be trusted and she's very much against gossiping. So people know that they can trust her with their secrets no matter what.
While not exactly filling the common stereotype of your average pirate in appearance, Bai is very greedy. She likes to use her innocent, childish looks to con money and things out of other people and often gets away with it. She got in a lot of trouble because of it on the ship before, but she still does it secretly. Though, she doesn't really need to con people out of their money when she's also a skilled pick-pocket.
When it comes to the people that she cares about, Bai is very loyal and kind. She'd literally drop anything for her friends and fellow crew members, and she takes what she does as the ship's medic very seriously, she will do everything that she possibly can to help someone who's sick or injured, no matter what.

"I'll admit, you can't trust me a whole lot, but you can be sure that you can trust me with your life."

Skills
Bai is skilled in a lot of things. She's very good at acrobatics and is very flexible. She's good at just sliding under peoples fingers and getting away. Of course, she's a very skilled and intelligent nurse/doctor on the ship and wouldn't trade her job for anything. She's proud of the fact that she can fix just about any ailment or injury within reason and she has a vast knowledge of herbs and other helpful remedies. Apart from that, Bai's also a very good seamstress and doesn't mind mending clothing for her fellow crew members, although there might be a slight fee for her services.

Weaknesses
Aside from not being very strong, Bai's greed problem and big mouth will often get her in a lot of trouble. She usually says the wrong things to people much stronger (and angrier) than her, and she'll do just about anything for money. She's also very rash, and will jump into things without thinking first.

Image
Job
Ship's Medic

Position in War
Honestly, she doesn't care much for the war, and is just happy with her life on the ship. As long as nothing happens to the ship or her friends, she'd be perfectly fine if the war never ended. However, she doesn't like conflict so she wouldn't mind it if everyone would just shake hands and be happy, either.

History
Bai doesn't like to talk about her past, but what is generally known is that her parents abandoned her when she was young. While she doesn't remember much of what happened, one thing that she is sure of is that they took her to a small island on vacation and left her there on purpose. The island was very shady and she did have to fight to stay alive, but she's happy for it because it made her smart and it made her strong. She was taken in by a gang and was used as the leader's 'Doll'. She became used to lying and used to getting money. The gang was very rough and often got injured very badly, and since none of them had medical knowledge, they looked to the girl, Bai, for help. She quickly adapted and studied remedies, herbs, and general medical know-how until she felt she was an expert. One day, the gang was attacked and arrested, but Bai slipped away unnoticed and escaped. Soon after, she met Captain Porter and fixed up some of his injuries before being invited to join his crew. Having no other life to return to, she agreed and she believes it was the best decision that she'd ever made.

Bai Toris

The sun peeked in through the blinds in the young medic's room, shining directly into her eyes until she finally gave up and forced herself out of bed. Normally, Bai Toris would allow herself some time to sleep in every morning since there usually wasn't any use for her in the early morning, but the sun as of lately had been in her face every morning to the point of being unbearable. Muttering under her breath, the petite girl tied her hair up out of her face and meandered to the sink that she used to wash her hands and medical supplies so that she could splash her face in an attempt to wake herself up. Needless to say, despite her efforts, Bai was still tired as well as wet, the cold water seeping into her nightgown unpleasantly.

Quickly stripping to her undergarments, she pulled a white sundress out of a drawer and slid into it. She yawned into her hand and walked over to her bed, sitting down and pulling her boots out from under it and pulling them on. After she had finished tying them, she grabbed the jacket that she had taken from one of the newer crew members, she believed his name was Jeremy, and shrugged into it, trying to remind herself to return it to him eventually.

Before heading out to bother Ms. Gubbles like she did most mornings, Bai made sure to check if everything was in order in her cabin. When it came to work space, she hadn't asked for much when she joined Captain Porter's crew, trying not to impose. She told him that all he needed to provide was one room for her and she'd use it for living space and for working space. He had agreed, and now she had her bed and dresser in one corner and her medical things took up the rest of the room. Two worn down and stained cots sat against the walls of the far side of the room. She had made thick pillows for both of them and she hung a curtain around them for privacy. Against another wall was her sink with a long counter and cabinets over it. Bai had her gloves and medical instruments set on the counter with herbs and medicines that she bought tucked into the cabinets. She always made a point to go into town and get local remedies from the people at every stop, so that she had so many things for treating and curing ailments and injuries that she had to get permission from Ms. Gubbles and Captain Porter to store some of it in the kitchen. A small, barely running refrigerator sat under the counter holding the more perishable ingredients and also some of Bai's snack stores. She had found the fridge in a dump near a port and begged Michael, the ship's mechanic, to fix it for her a long time ago and it still ran with some occasional tune ups. Next to the fridge was a stack of buckets that she used to clean up messes. A wooden desk cluttered with papers and pens and pencils was stuck against the wall next to the door with a chair she had snuck out of the dining room. She used the desk to catalog the people who came in looking for help, what their ailments were, and how she treated them, most of these papers were stuffed in labeled drawers in the desk in an attempt to stay organized. Finally, next to the cots sat a bookshelf stuffed full of books on sicknesses, injuries, and plants, most of which were well worn and scribbled in with Bai's messy handwriting. Overall, her little 'doctors office' had a feeling of somewhat comfortable clutter. It smelled of plants and wood and wasn't very well lit, but that's how the young girl liked it.

She picked up a small sign from her desk and opened her door, stringing it on a rogue nail. "The doctor is out" was all it read, informing potential patients that Bai wasn't in her cabin and to look for her elsewhere. She stuffed a key into the lock on the door and double checked that it was locked, protecting her precious items inside, before stuffing it into her boot and walking aimlessly around the boat, rubbing her eyes irritably every so often. She spotted Jeremy talking to the captain while she was walking towards the kitchen and decided to stop by and see what was up. She came up next to the younger boy and yawned again. "Good morning Captain," Bai said, waving to the older man tiredly. "Good morning newbie," she muttered, jabbing Jeremy in the arm with her elbow, "thank you for lending me your jacket, I'll return it later, but I need it right now." She smiled a bit and hugged herself, allowing the warm fabric to heat her up. "It's very nice, must've been expensive."

As usual, Phoenix was settled comfortably on her most favorite spot, which was of course, right atop the Vagus. On stormy days, tempests would threaten to rocket her off the enormous red balloon, but it was not this day. In fact, the breeze was a pleasant one with the right amount of frost in it - just the way Phoenix liked it. Though she reckoned Ryan would no doubt chastise her if he found her there. "You'll fall and land your ass right smack in the ocean," or "The blimp is already worn enough without you bouncing around on it." And so on and so forth.

Presently, Phoenix had her back against the smooth canvas, her arms behind her head with her eyes closed. One might have actually thought that she was sound asleep, but no, her ears were perfectly alert as always. The early conversations of the crew drifted up, making her wrinkle her nose in slight disapproval. Well, it was about time to join them on the main deck, lest Ryan should come knocking on her living quarters to find the "You see nothing" sign she had jokingly placed on a wall.

Swiftly, she swung herself on the makeshift 'ladder' she had secured for easy access to and fro the main deck and the balloon. It was a mere simple rope in which she slid down, her black gloves protecting her from the frictional burn. Perhaps it might have been deliberate that she chose not to put a proper ladder there instead - it took quite a bit of skill to heft oneself up, and no one wanted to use the rope down with bare hands. The top of the blimp was somewhat her little space of freedom and privacy, but Michael was often up there as well to fix the screw ups in the canvas.

"Yo Ryan," she grinned coyly at the man whilst running a hand through her wind-blown hair. It wasn't as presentable as she would have liked it to be, but she'd get that settled later. Meanwhile, Phoenix was highly aware that addressing him as 'Ryan' bugged him, and that he preferred being called Captain instead. But Phoenix thought of him more as a friend and only used that honorific occasionally, or if she simply felt like it. Of course, needless to say, she knew when respect was due as Ryan was not only her friend, but her superior.

"Morning Jeremy, nice cleaning. The deck looks almost clean enough for consumption, though I reckon Mrs. Gubbles would beg to differ." She winked at the cabin boy and chuckled, before turning her attention to Bai. The girl looked terribly sleepy, what with the continuous yawning and eye rubbing. It was hard to believe that she wasn't sleep-walking instead.

"Did something keep you awake last night? You look terrible." Phoenix studied the girl, frowning.

The all too familiar and steady mechanical sounds were all that accompanied the sleeping Michael. Now while technically he had his own cabin, Michael tended to sleep down in the heart of the ship. It truly was the heart of the ship as well, and Michael's domain. One wall covered in various gauges, lights, switches and valves only labeled in short hand for what each one were, complex to anyone who did not have a clue what they were doing. Opening his eyes slowly the soft glow of un-natural light filled his eyes. Swinging his legs off his make shift bunk, his bare feet landed on the warm metal floor. It was warm because out of the whole ship only one place was warmer, the boiler itself, and this room was very close to the boiler to allow Michael easy access for what ever purpose he saw fit. The bunk itself was Minimalistic, it was a canvas sheet stretched over a frame large enough for one person, bolted to the wall and supported by two chains.

Grabbing his clothes from off a nearby steam pipe (He liked his clothes warm in the morning). he proceed to dress himself in his normal attire, his work trousers, his heavy work boots, his protective shirt and that was it for now. No work would start until after breakfast so he left his hair in a mess as he made his way out of the gauge room, down a small corridor before heading back up to the main ship levels (the level he just came from was all mechanical).

When he came out to the main deck, he blinked as the cold air hit his face waking him up even further. Though he pre-heated clothes would stay warm for a moment or two longer. " Morning Cap'n" he said sounding rather happy for one who just woke up.
Turning his mismatched eyes to everyone else he blinked " Morning all... Have i woken up late?... i did not expect to see everyone around". There was the down side to spending so much time below deck in the ship, he could quite easily lose track of the day, not that it bothered him. The ship ran on its on time frame.

Glancing at the deck he looked up a Jeremy and chuckled " Lad you keep this bloody good work up.... i might have to give you a challenge and see if you can't clean the pipes below deck" Anyone who had ever seen the pipes below deck would know that just the sheer length of the pipe work down there meant you could never get it all clean, let alone the state its actually in.

Ryan looked around at the crew, each and everyone of them said good morning and went about their tasks. The new boy Jeremy was already working away hard at cleaning the ship and he approved. The boy spoke to him and he nodded curtly. Out of habit with his other members he gave his hair a fond scruff.
Pheonix had called him Ryan again and he tried his best to not show he was irked, There was something about the word captain that sounded so much better to him. He moved his hands to his pockets and gave her a bit of a warning glare. He didnt bother picking a fight with her about it as he knew it was a useless endeavour. Ms. Gubbles emerged from the bottom deck as well and he greeted her with a warm smile. "I'm starving." He told her as he walked past the cook giving her a friendly wink. "We having pancakes today? I want pancakes." He knew such a thing was impossible to have on the ship with their current supplies but he wanted to bug her anyways.

Bai Toris

Bai laughed as Jeremy explained how he got his jacket in detail and stuffed her hands in it's pockets. "C'mon, Jeremy I asked you if it was expensive, not for your life story!" She snickered, her blue eyes going back and fourth watching him scrub the deck.

"If you don't mind my saying so, you look as though you're not quite awake yet."

Her eyes looked up to him as he began wandering off still cleaning. "I don't know what you mean," she began, yawning into her hand, "I'm as awake as anyone else here." She grinned and placed her hands on her hips, "don't worry about me, newbie, I'll be fine after I get some food in my stomach." She looked down at her shoes, wishing she was back in her bed, despite what she said to Jeremy.
"By the way, I think my cabin's due for a good scrubbing soon." Bai smacked him on the back playfully and winked. She heard boots on the deck and grinned wider, Phoenix was awake! Bai always liked Phoenix, she was always so interesting and strong and pretty.

"Morning, Phoenix!" She called, rubbing her eye with one hand and waving to the fiery haired girl with the other. She watched as she greeted everyone else, then turned to Bai with a frown.

"Did something keep you awake last night? You look terrible."

"Gee thanks." The blond girl muttered, rolling her eyes, "how about a 'good morning, Bai' or a 'how are you, Bai'?" She was still smiling all the same, "I'm fine, don't worry, the sun's just been waking me up prematurely lately, that's all. I might get something to cover my windows at the next stop." Soon after, both Michael and Ms. Gubbles joined the group, both greeting everyone and then going off into other conversations. Bai chose to gravitate over to Maria after she heard the word 'breakfast'.

"Ah! Ms. Gubbles I am so so hungry!" She sang, throwing her arms around the older woman, then let go and followed Ryan towards the kitchen. "By the way Captain, when are we landing next?"

Phoenix Estrielle

"I'm going to finish this up before coming down for breakfast, would you be so kind as to save some for me miss Gubbles?"

"Nope, I don't think there will be a need for that. Jeremy can have my breakfast - I'm not hungry," Phoenix said, which was in a way quite out of the ordinary. It was a given that Phoenix was a huge-eater and had a large appetite. She only owed it to her high metabolism, else she would have been a hippo by now. And in any case, life in her current circumstances did not allow for much slacking or lazing off. As much as it was generally known that ships flying the same flag would not attack each other, there were always those found to be crossing the boundaries. The term 'Skypirates' was a mere word to label groups of wanderers - but others took on its literal meaning. Well, not that they followed the rules of the skies religiously either...

"And, as to where we shall be landing next, it would most probably be the island Pandros. Right Captain?" she stressed on the word, lips pressed into a smile. "Ever heard of it before?" she asked, the question directed more towards the others. "I went there once actually, but I can't guarantee how much time has changed that place as it has done to many others."

Briskly, she made her way to the helm of the Vagus and proceeded to extract a map from its protective transparent casing. Not much of a point in putting a fragile (and absolutely important) piece of paper to suffer the wrath of the forces of Nature, was it? Needless to say, the map was still exposed to frequent wear and tear, so there was another spare copy tucked away safely in Phoenix's cabin. It would not do to forget that maps were highly valuable essentials as they were hard to recreate and produce, and it so happened that the spare copy was also a stolen one - courtesy of Phoenix.

"I'm no navigator, but based on the fact that we've been flying for ten days since leaving the last island, which is over here," she pointed her finger on a tiny green blotch on the map. "Plus taking into the account of recent stormy weather blowing us off-course," she narrowed her brows in concentration. "Three days of bad weather, I think. So that makes a good twelve hours before the next touch down over here." She traced the finger slightly down towards the left, before tapping on yet another green area. Interestingly, that particular one had a little red dot on it.

"The island Pandros - home to volcanic hills, twisted black trees and perhaps a little forest or two here and there. I think there's a small fishing village as well, but who knows, they all might have been wiped out by obsidian scorpions," she gazed at the crew, waiting patiently for their reactions with a smile twitching at the corner of her lips.

Bai Toris

Bai eagerly stood in anticipation of the breakfast Ms. Gubbles had prepared for the crew. Being tired didn't matter anymore as her eyes glittered excitedly, she hadn't realized how hungry she really was. She half listened to what everyone around her was talking about as she waited and turned to Phoenix when she mentioned where they were landing.

The blond girl crossed her arms across her chest and drummed her fingers against her arms, thinking. "Pandros," she sighed, trying out the name on her tongue, "I don't think I've ever been, but I don't remember half the places I've visited anymore anyway." She said before walking over to a table and sitting down, ready for breakfast, her legs crossed and hands in her lap, a habit she had gotten from her time with her rich parents that she never really grew out of.

Bai noticed that Jon, the ship's blacksmith, had entered earlier, but hadn't really registered his presence until he shouted, "WHO WANTS TO GET A DOG?!" right behind her, causing the small girl to jump. She pushed the chair out from under her and stood up, whirling around and smacking the older boy in the back of the head.

"I'd love a dog," she agreed, "I'd also love to keep my hearing." She shot a joking glare towards Jon, and smiled. A glint of red caught the young medic's eye and she saw that one of his burns had split open and was bleeding. She shook her head and pointed at it. "What would you guys do without me, you're all infections waiting to happen." She stuffed her hands into the pockets of Jeremy's jacket and found the gauze and disinfectant that she had stored in them. "Come on and let me cover that up." She instructed, somewhat forcefully, now in medic mode.

Jon felt the slap against his head he didn't make much of it he was used to Bai smacking him for this and that he just accepted it. He lit up hearing her say yes feeling a small sense of victory from this. He saw Bai go into her "medic" mode he groaned "Aww come on its only a burn just let the air dry it out. Its fine!" he didn't dare try to draw back, because last thing he wanted was for Bai to be mad at him. He put his bleeding hand forward for her. He looked like the disinfectant was going to melt his hand off "Do you have to use that?" his eyes referencing to the disinfectant.

Jon smiled knowing he escaped the the medics grasp he saluted "Right away captain!" he almost flew out of the kitchen he ran down to the armory which was in the room next to the forge. He went in and grabbed a rifle for every crew member including himself. He then quickly ran to his room and retrieved his pistol, sword, and tomahawk and belted them on. He then picked up the rifles again running to where the rest of the crew would meet and started to lay out the guns so everyone would get easy access. Then he ran back to the armory to retrieve the ammo for the crew carrying a crate under each arm running back to the area and putting them close to the guns. He knew that everyone on this ship had a sword because he was the one who made a personal sword for everyone. He pulled out each rifle loading them quickly his hands moved fast and exact. He knew where everything was because he either fixed or made these guns. After a while everything was prepared for battle. He waited anxiously for combat his eyes watching the other ship with excitement.

Bai rolled her eyes at Jon and smacked his wrist, "no injury is 'just an injury'." She said, taking his hand in both of her own and looking at it closely, smiling at his mention of the disinfectant, "oh come on, hike up your skirt and deal with it, it'll hurt a lot more if it gets infect-" She was cut off by the sound of the captain barking orders. Apparently a ship was coming and they were about to do their 'pirate thing'.

"Bai I want you to remain below deck, man the right front gun, we'll send any injured to you."

She sighed and saluted, "sure, sir, I'll do the best I can." She addressed the rest of the crew with a firm look, "just don't be reckless, I'd rather not have to deal with too much gore today, I haven't even had breakfast yet." Turning on her heels, she marched away to go below deck to get to the gun she was assigned. Bai was never a fighter, even during her days with the gang back on the island her parents had left her on. She wasn't fond of hurting other people and besides, she wasn't exactly built to fight. She didn't mind manning the guns because it kept her away from close combat, but she still didn't like having to see the others come out of it with their injuries. It was always a good day when no one got hurt.

She found her cannon and made sure everything was ready before waiting for a signal.

The ship lurched and Bai rammed into the gun, luckily not setting it off. It seemed the Vagus had made contact with the enemy ships. She backed up and checked over herself, her ribs hurt but nothing appeared to be broken. She heard Phoenix's order and quickly scrambled over to her cannon, shutting one eye and beginning to aim it right at the hull.

"Aim for their cannons, we need to knock them out as quickly as we can!" Jeremy's voice was quickly blocked out as he shot a cannon.

Bai jumped, she hadn't noticed Jeremy arrive. "Good lord, boy, I need to get you a bell or something." She muttered, realigning her aim and making sure she was on target. Before she could shoot, shots were heard and she saw the Cabin boy duck for cover. "I'm ok!"

She sighed and smiled, "good, I'd have to kill you if you let yourself get hurt this early." She shut her eye again and aimed once more for the hull and shot, grinning when it made contact.
