“What if tattoos just randomly appeared on our skin at key points in our lives and we had to figure out what they meant for ourselves”. College roleplay.

745 readers have visited Indelible since SecretlyRiverSong created it.

Inspired by a Tumblr post, of which I cannot find the OP so I can’t credit. Original post read “What if tattoos just randomly appeared on our skin at key points in our lives and we had to figure out what they meant for ourselves”. This is a loose adaptation of that concept.
Many things can be discerned from the ink on a person’s body, though true meanings are rarely understood by anyone other than that person alone. It’s considered taboo and incredibly rude to inquire about someone else’s markings if one isn’t close to them, although some more modern individuals are more open. So many make assumptions, draw connections on what they know.
Some are easy. Soulmates might have matching tattoos over their hearts or around their wrists, like flowers or intricately braided designs, constantly moving in a synchronized dance. A widow’s marking would be blackened or faded, a physical sign of what they have lost. A father might have baby footprints marching up his leg or across his chest that grow larger over the years as his children age.
Then there are more complicated ones. Broken hourglasses leaking sand, fields of tulips constantly ablaze. A collection of tally marks across an arm or a leg.
And when they appear, the sensation is different for everyone. Some tickle, like feathers across the skin. These would be happy motifs, signifying the acquisition of a friend, a lovely day with the family. Some itch, like a nagging doubt. And some hurt, some scorch into the skin in moments of heartbreak or trauma or loss. Change is possible, and sometimes expected. Once happy memories change into regret or guilt, colors move from bright, fiery hues to dull grey.
Everyone wears their tattoos differently, and the student body of Cedar University experiences new adventures every day, adding friends, rivals, and lovers to the collection of patterns across their skin.

This is a slice of life roleplay within the “magic tattoo” universe. Your character is student at Cedar University, and ANYTHING GOES except for:
1. Explicit sexual situations.PG-13, lovelies. If you don’t want your grandmother to read it out loud to a bunch of children, you probably shouldn’t post it here. I’m not saying your characters should be unrealistically prudent, because come on, college. I’m just saying that it’s not the priority to have torrid rumpy-pumpy on every page of this roleplay. And no explicit sexual assault. Prove yourself a better writer than those on staff for Game of Thrones. Rape is not a plot device.
2. God modding. C’mon, I don’t have to explain this. If it’s not yours to play with, don’t play with it.
3. Short/ one line posts. Give your fellow roleplayers some material to work with. 100 words per post is a general safe zone, but more is encouraged.
4. Excluding other roleplayers. Not everyone is at the same skill level, and I understand that. But please, don’t ignore another roleplayer because you dislike their writing style. Help them improve instead. This is a constructive-criticism zone. The point of roleplaying is to have fun and improve your writing ability, so be open with each other (including me. I’m not God, I’m a broke college student, and I have a lot of room for improvement) and keep growing. If I see you leaving out another roleplayer, I will send you a private message addressing the problem. And besides, it’s always more fun interacting with a variety of different characters. Avoid forming “cliques”.

Failure to adhere to these rules will result in immediate removal from this roleplay. But anything beyond that is fair game. Be creative! Want your character to go to a class that I haven’t mentioned in a post? Go for it. Want to have a big party at a local bar/pub? Sure, that place has always been there ;). Make this world blossom. Your character should be layered and believable, your tattoos should be symbolic and have thought behind them, you plot interesting. All genders, sexualities, races, etc. are allowed and encouraged! Not everyone has to be straight and white. In the OOC, tell me your favorite song so that I know you read through all of my babbling.

Re: Indelible

Hi, yeah, I don't really know my favorite song. I change my mind too much to pick one. BUT I did read everything!

Re: Indelible

I forgot to mention: in your character bio, list at least two tattoos that your character has upon starting the roleplay, and how they were acquired/ what they mean!
