Name: Shadow Empath
Title(s)/Nickname(s): Shad; The Back-Handed Thief; Quicksilver; The Handicraftsman
Age: 23
Race: Half-Blood (Human/Elf)
Gender: Male
Appearance:
Shadow stands at a height just shy of an even six feet, with a lean frame of packed, wiry muscle. Longish golden blonde hair adorns his head, either slightly spiked up or pulled back in a neat practical military-style ponytail, though on occasion he will let it fly free around his slightly pointed ears. Intense dark green eyes peer forth from beneath a tormented brow and seem to pore into your very soul, but that's not the most apparent characteristic about this odd thieving fellow. Apart from a myriad of scars from numerous battles, Shad has a mechanical and magical prosthetic right hand. [Specifics will follow eventually.]
Theme Song:
A is for Apathy ~ Powerman 5000Personality: A charismatic and insatiable young man, Shad is quite laid-back and easy-going for the most part. If pushed, however, he can become extremely ruthless, flying into a nearly blind rage of righteousness at times. He is quite intelligent, and what he cannot gain by diplomacy, he will simply just outright steal it.
Morality: Mostly neutral, but he indeed has a heart, so leaning toward good (with many, many chaotic tendencies).
Likes: Schwag (of any sort); homegrown tobacco AND Devil Grass [read:Cannabis]; blades; the occasional book; music.
Dislikes: Ignorant people; stealing from the poor; intolerance.
Interests/Hobbies: Plays a mean game of cards (both legitimately and illegitimately); has always been interested in the arcane despite not having any apparent magical affinity; dabbles in alchemy (mostly poisons and salves); growing tobacco and Devil Grass.
Skills: After years of having to cure his own wounds, Shad is definitely an above average natural healer; he can also play a mean flute, more accurately, a bone flute stolen from a wealthy Dark Elf manor (his first successful heist); with seeds in a pouch amongst his many belongings, he can get them to grow just about anywhere, and will spread them at random on his travels; lastly, he can whip up basic poisons and salves, provided he can find the proper ingredients.
Armor: Close-fitting dark leather with a light-chain reinforced hooded cloak.
Weapons: Dual daggers, called βThe Twins: Tela and Telumβ (almost always dipped in some form of poison); a longsword which once belonged to his father; a composite longbow; and a quarterstaff.
Items: Full traveling kit, miscellaneous bottles, poultices/salves, oil for his prosthetic, a prized wooden pipe (stolen, naturally), lockpicking tools, and whatever other bits and baubles the professional thief may have.
Abilities: A dual-wielding master with blades; sneaky, very sneaky; acrobatic; a fairly decent shot with bow.
History: Born the third son to an apostate human mage and a relatively well-known elven female thief in a family that resulted in seven children, Shadow grew up hard and fast in an ever-changing environment. Being the only one of the offspring whom failed to show any magical affinity at all, it was his mother who trained him in the delicate arts of thievery, diplomacy, and the like. His father didn't outright shun him, but Shad always felt as if he were viewed as inferior to his brothers and sisters, despite being one of the eldest. It wasn't a glamorous existence, but it sure as hell wasn't a shitty one, either.
At age seventeen, he embarked on his first solo heist, and was subsequently caught due to having stepped on the family's cat. It was the first and last time he would be found out. Since he hadn't actually stolen anything, the penalty was the loss of his right hand. But his two elder brothers, having a few more years' experience on him AND the blessing of their father's magical blood, created a prosthetic hand for him out of a light but sturdy metal that to this day Shadow still doesn't know what it's called. Essentially, it was an ordinary hand, save for a tad bit more dexterity and gripping strength. Unfortunately, it tends to freeze up at the most inopportune moments, so the young thief is mostly dependent on his remaining natural left hand.
