a character in “Innocent Blood”, as played by Hellfire

Description

Physical description:

Age: 30
Gender: male
Height: 5 feet 9 inches
Weight: 165 pounds
Eyes: dark brown
Hair: dark brown

Maximilian has an rather athletic body from running laps each day to stay in shape. His hair is cut very neat and short giving him a bit of a soldier-like appearance. His shoulders are bent slightly from reading too many (mostly) theological books in his youth. A black frock coat and shiny black shoes are his usual choice of clothes in church. He has a clear voice that carries easily, despite that singing is not his forte and he prefers preaching to chanting hymns.

Pre-touched personality:

Max has always been faithful, first in whatever his mother said, then in the faith he had discovered for himself. He cares about his mother and is always concerned about keeping his body healthy and in shape. He is money-conscious out of necessity, turning over a CC a few times before actually spending cash. His past and especially his first time, is a sore topic for him. He especially dislikes people that remind him of his old classmates or try to give him a nickname. On the contrary he is quite content with his current life. Running laps or reading makes him as happy as preaching, praying and the rest of the stuff that comes with his profession.

Equipment & Abilities:

Max possesses the usual gear a priest needs for his work although his clothing style follows the old priest's out of respect. He owns a few pieces of well-worn sportswear and running shoes. You will also find a lot of theological books and health items at his small apartment.

He is quite athletic and especially good at endurance running. Learning and memorizing church-related things from books is easy for him, but he has trouble to adjust to unfamiliar situations or do things he has never done before. He is awful at singing because he can't keep a tune.

Historical Background:

Being born unto a whore, Maximilian had no idea whom of his mother's many clients actually fathered him. Every time he asked about his father, his mother smiled and said: "You are a gift from god my little angel, as is my body. Without it we would starve to death. You should treasure your body too and not ransack your brain over who your father was." Little Max thus grew up learning to treasure god and his body and never questioned his mother's reasoning until he learned to read at school. A new world with a whole new gods and demons opened up to him and confused him greatly. He couldn't understand how there could be so many different and partially contradicting religions. For many years he had believed in his mother's god but now he couldn't even tell which of the many gods that actually was. He ran over to the library many times to keep his body in shape and satiate his mind's questions but he found no answer. Through his questions he soon became the laughing stock of his classmates. Biblefreak was yet one of the nicer nicknames he earned at that time despite the fact that the actual bible was still way too complicated to read for him. As he grew older, he pondered many times to just ask his mother what god she was believing in, but it always felt kind of wrong and awkward. In his final school year the nickname that stuck to him like glue was Holy Whoreson and he wholeheartedly hated it. The few friends he made in the bookclub merely called him Holy, but he still didn't like it. Books didn't call him anything and so he continued to read and love them. School, running to the library, debates at the bookclub, running home, studying, that was his life until the day he turned 18.

On his 18th birthday his mother woke him with a kiss and told him what a splendid man he had become. Beside her stood a young woman wearing heavy make-up and almost no clothes. His mother smiled and left. Grown Max only stared bewildered until the woman spoke. She told him she would teach him from now on how to make a woman feel good. She told him that he was lucky to have such a good body and finally Max understood. He had known since he was little how his mother earned their living but only now it had dawned on him that she expected the same from him. Now he understood why she always told him to treasure his body and it sent him crying. How naive had he been to believe his ageing mother could earn their living expenses infinitely, even earn enough to let him go to a good college. Still his curiosity and his hormones won, but afterwards he felt as ashamed as he has never felt before in his life. He grabbed his cloths and did the only thing that felt right to him at that moment - he ran to the next church and made a confession. The priest listened to him quietly without interrupting even once, only as Max started to cry he hummed until the young man regained his composure. Finally he said: You are your own man now. You can decide for yourself if what your mother has done to raise you is right or wrong. All I see before me is a healthy, young man who is confused about his place in life. If you don't want to take up your mother's profession then don't. If you can't understand her faith then find your own. This church is open to anybody. The priest's words impressed Max deeply, they made him feel whole and he decided to stay at the church. With time he learned that faith wasn't about giving people the one and only faith but giving them faith at all. He got baptised and studied to be a priest himself. Ten years later he had fulfilled his dream and after the old priest retired he gladly succeeded him as the head of that little church. For two years now he followed his life's calling and cared for everyone that came to his church - until that faithful day he became touched by the Innocent...

Maximilian's day - morning -

Awoken by the annoying electronic device that monitored his heartbeat when worn, Maximilian rose from his bed and dressed after the morning routine. The beginning day promised to be a hot one so his running outfit would soon cling to him despite all the enhanced sweat-soaking promises on the label. The priest pressed the button on his running shoes to tie them automatically and slapped on his wrist-exercise band. He grabbed a few power bars and a sports drink, stuffed them into his belly-pouch and left his tiny apartment. His neighbour, a grumpy old soldier who was convinced the military should rule alone, greeted him with the usual insult that the priests should all go to hell. Max replied with his usual 'I prefer running' and started doing so, from the moment he left the apartment building. He jogged twice around the block to warm up, then he turned into the long, long street that would bring him to his church. Along the road there were other churches, this was a church district after all, but Max didn't stop for sight-seeing. He checked his wrist-device and was pleased to find his heart-beat in the green range. After turning thirty a few weeks ago, he had been worried his fitness would decline, but to his pleasure he found he still had the stamina of a wolf. Max smiled at this thought. A priest viewing himself as a wolf rather than a shepherd, was probably a new one. Still smiling he ran on, until he bumped into somethig hard and found himself sitting on his backside. Looming over him was a slim, well-trained man in his thirties who extended a hand to help the priest get up again. Max took the hand and let the stranger pull him up. Suddenly a shiver ran through his whole body and he heard a male, rather hoarse voice whispering: "You have been touched by the Innocent."

Standing alone on the side-walk, Max blinked and looked around in confusion. There was no sign of the man he had run into, he had disappeared as suddenly as he had appeared. The priest shrugged, thinking maybe the fellow had gotten ashamed and ran away at high speed. Who wouldn't after sprouting such a misleading line? Max went red for a second after he remembered that if things had turned out differently, it could have been very well him standing there by the streets, fishing for customers...
