Crime Description
hackΒ·er
noun
A person who uses computers to gain unauthorized access to data.

Andy always had a thing with computers. He excelled at gaming and programming skills from a very early age. His enthusiasm for hacking was born more out of boredom than anything else. He started with small stuff just to try it. His first hacking was into his neighbours computer when he was 12 years old. It was easier then he thought and nobody noticed a thing. Too bad there was nothing interesting on his computer. In order to up the stakes a bit he targeted his school's network second. He increased his grades slightly, so no one would notice. A week later he increased the grades of one of his annoying class mates to A's. That classmate was accused of hacking and was suspended.

Skip to a few years later and Andy's hacking jobs had gotten way more serious. He made a name for himself on the deep web, and he was being asked to hack by professionals. He was trying to get into a big time hacker group and as such took every job he could. He broke into bank security programs, insurance companies and army bases.

On his last job he was ratted out to the police who took him from his room into prison, leaving Andy's family shocked.

Background
Anderson was born to Richard and Jean O'Neal. His father was in the army, so mostly it was just Andy and his mom at the house. He was a nice kid, always smiling and helping his mom wherever she needed it. His hobby was no frowned upon, what kid doesn't play with computers nowadays? He spend a lot of time in his room, and he got pretty big in the gaming world. His mom always went with whenever he had tournaments and his room was decorated with trophies.

Eventually he got bored with gaming and he looked for more of a thrill. He discovered hacking from one of the other kids at a gaming tournament, and he really started to get into it. To his mom nothing seemed different. He spend a lot of time in his room before and he is spending a lot of time in his room now. The only thing that did change was the amount of money he had. He was getting paid serious money for some of the jobs he did. Although he did buy some things for himself, he did not show anything too expensive.

Whatever job he did, he never showed his face. It was always jobs at a distance, and even in the criminal world he was only known by his alias. Andy in fact did no realize how serious his crimes were. People were killed and a lot of money was involved on his jobs. It got so serious that he was in the top 100 of looked for hackers in the United States. Even though he was able to dance around the police, the governments white-hat hackers were another deal. He might have been able to save himself if he knew how deep in he was, and if he knew who was looking for him. But he only protected his identity so much.

No one was more surprised than his mom when a task force entered the house and arrested her son. They had more evidence than Andy could have imagined and he was send to juvenile prison as a result.

Personality
Andy is a nice kid, he got into things that are way too big for him. He will try to make people laugh and has a grin on his face most of the time. He is also one to test his boundaries. He did so in school, he did it in gaming and eventually also in his hacking. Every time he took it a bit too far. In school and gaming that is not so much of a problem, but with hacking it landed him in prison. This hasn't changed him that much, so even in prison he will try to see how far he can go.

Andy also tries his best to be a charmer. He has a self confidence that is running into arrogance. He has always been praised for his abilities so he has a feeling he is better than most others. To himself he is the ultimate catch. Andy, even though mostly indoors by himself, is outgoing. He likes to go to parties and being around people. The big difference between his life before and during prison is the concept of choice. At home he always had the choice of going out, while here he is being told when to do what at every time. He has a natural competitiveness, always wanting to be the best.

Andy loves the sound of his own voice, and everyone will be aware of this in a very short time. He does not stop talking and will not wait for an answer when he asks any questions. The words 'shut up' seem to encourage him more than anything else.

So begins...

Meghan has spent about two weeks in the detention facility and so far hasn't seemed to make herself known to any of her peers. Though that would be expected of her. Meghan was never the kind of person to walk up to someone and introduce herself. If someone spoke to her she would give a friendly response and keep going with the rest of her day.

Though to be honest, she couldn't believe she was ever stupid enough to get caught. She always hoped that once her deed was done that would be the end of it and she could get on with the rest of her life. But of course the Molotov cocktails were traced right back to her. Meghan's only friend in the huge act of violence betrayed her and she was inevitably caught and sent here until she became the age of eighteen.

Needless to say her parents weren't exactly pleased when they found out she was the one behind the devastating fire of her ex-boyfriend's loving girlfriend. Meghan didn't want David with anyone else but her. If she couldn't have him, no one else could. Everyone back in Virginia Beach has now pegged her as the crazy Hampton girl. Meghan's criminal act has ruined her family's reputation and honestly she isn't phased in the least bit by it. Meghan didn't see what she did wrong. In her eyes, the way she reacted was justified. Of course everyone else would believe otherwise.

Reluctantly the brunette female sat in the cafeteria with her disgusting bowl of buttered grits, a slice of toast, and a styrofoam cup filled with bitter orange juice. Meghan never cared for grits and there was no way in hell she would be caught eating it now. Instead she just munched on her dry toast and drank her orange juice. With every sip she would give a sour face and set the cup back down. This continued on for a couple minutes. The entire time she sat in silent solitude. Nobody seemed to want to join her for breakfast. Everyone had their own cliques and honestly, she didn't really mind that.

Day 23 started the same as every other day so far. Andy stared into the distance while eating the bland, shapeless and tasteless food standing in front of him. He hadn't expected luxury dinners or anything, but this could barely be called food in his mind. Taking the grit onto a spoon, he turned it around to see it drop back into the bowl in lumps. The little piece of butter on top did nothing to improve the taste or aesthetic of the meal. Andy's toast lay on the side, in his mind upgraded to his dessert and the creme de la creme of his daily breakfast.

He longed back to home, to the food his mom always made. The afternoon snack when he would get home, the careful piece of chocolate when he opened his lunchbox at school and of course the eggs on toast served to him still in his bed. Yep, food is the thing I miss most....
He looked to the few other kids in the room. Most of them siting alone, almost all of them in eerie silence. The social aspect of it all was kind of lost. We knew each others names, but not all of each others crimes. Some liked to play it more to the chest than others. Andy hadn't told anyone of his crime yet. Although his work has had some big consequences, from behind a PC it seems kind of meagre compared to what the others might have done. In the beginning Andy had liked to play a game where he would look at one of the others and imagine what crime they had committed. But this little game in his mind had gotten very scary, very quickly, so he had stopped.

As always he tried to make himself look bigger and tougher by his words. He proclaimed out loud: "The yelp review I'm going to write about this place is going to be scathing." He looked to the right and gave the girl sitting there a wink and a smile. Softer, and to no one in particular, he continued:"My journalistic ability and choice of words will bring this place down." Again he watched as his grit fell from spoon back into the bowl. He decided to give up on it, even though he was still hungry. He tried to save the little piece of butter best he could, and he put it on his toast. His dessert had been slightly burned, but that only made it that much better.

His little outburst had raised nothing but an eyebrow with the one guard on duty. Must suck, Andy thought, being a guard must be shit already, but then to look after a bunch of kids...must have been a punishment of some kind for him too.
Andy sighed audibly. Today was going to be boring. As part of his punishment he was not allowed to touch a PC while in juvi, so the IT lessons would be without him. Of course he didn't need it, he could dance cyber circles around their teacher in any case. The worse thing was that it made him feel like more of an outsider than he already thought he was. The visitation hours were probably even worse. Andy had told people about his visits and went into the visitation area often enough (coincidentally when no one else was), but he hadn't received any visits so far. Andy waited for his mother, but she never came through the door. His father was still on duty in Iraq and Andy feared him coming more than any other punishment they could give him in here.

"You’re one crazy bitch, Mads!”

Madeleine had barely heard the hoots and hollers of her friends behind her as she approached the doors of the convenience store, gun tucked inside her sweatshirt's spacious pockets and her face hidden inside her hood. In fact, she hardly heard anything at all except her own heartbeat in her ears. No more would they think she was a goody-two-shoes. After this, they would no longer look at her as Jackson Winters’ timid little sister...

---------------------------------β˜†- P r e s e n t -β˜†

Every time Madeleine closed her eyes she could hear police sirens. In her mind she saw her friends laughing from the car, feel her heart thumping wildly in her throat as she realized what she had done. It had all been a stupid dare. She’d done reckless things before, trying to compete with her three older brothers, but nothing to this degree of stupidity. Just a stupid dare...

It had been two and a half weeks since her big mistake, and almost two since arriving to Virginia Juvie. She had kept to herself the entire time, not speaking unless spoken to and eating her meals fast so she barely tasted how vile they were. Now she sat in the cafeteria by herself, scraping the last bit of grits onto her spoon and popping it into her mouth, trying to ignore the little lurch her stomach made each time she tasted the goop. She plugged her nose as she chewed, making a face. When she was done she pushed the bowl away. She really missed her grandma's strawberry pancakes.

"The yelp review I'm going to write about this place is going to be scathing," a boy from her left said out loud, breaking the silence in the room. Startled, Maddie looked over at him. He was cute and, to her surprise, very innocent-looking. She had seen him around a few times but they never spoke. She must have looked absolutely bewildered because the boy then gave her a wink and smiled as he looked down at his own breakfast. Maddie took a sip of her orange juice.

Aside from the harsh, cold setting of the detention facility, Maddie found that she didn't really mind the rules. It gave her something to do other than be alone with her thoughts and feelings. She didn't think she could bear thinking about the look on her mother's face when she heard the news that her own daughter had robbed someone at gunpoint. Her friends would probably want to see her all covered in tattoos and piercings by the time she got out, but honestly, Maddie's only hope was to get out alive and still mentally sane.

Two months. Today would make two months that Taven was locked up. She stared at the grits in her bowl, bringing her spoon down and scooping up the grayish colored goop. A smile was spread across her face as she brought he spoon to her lips. Was she happy to eat this food that was in front of her? Of course she was. Her mother was never a good cook, this prison food was the closest thing she ever tasted to it. Was it weird of her to think that? Most definitely. Her eyes scanned the cafeteria, stopping on everyone for half a second before she looked back down at her plate. She finished her grits, leaving the toast on her plate as she chugged down her orange juice. Her right hand shook lightly as she placed the cup back down, her right leg bounced up and down...she always did this. Taven reached up, going for the cross necklace around her neck. She rubbed the back of it with her thumb before dropping her hand, putting it in her pocket.

"The yelp review I'm going to write about this place is going to be scathing." She shook her head, hearing the boy speak out. She knew what he was trying to do, and wether or not it was going to work would be a surprise. You weren't seen as big and bad unless you were big and bad. A skinny kid with dimples wouldn't be seen like that. Now if he did something big, let's say he ran up on a guard (although that'd be stupid), or found some way to open all the cells at the same time so all the kids could be out and not just at their designated times, that'd be something. Respect would come quick.
Taven though, she expected respect no matter what. She was a kind girl, minded her own business, so why anyone wouldn't respect that? She didn't know. The dark haired girl stood up, pushing her chair back when she saw the nurse walk in carrying a tray with small white cups on it. "Goodmorning!" she spoke cheerfully to the nurse, and to the two guards beside her. She reached onto the tray, picking up the cup with her name on it, the orange pills stared up at her, knowing she wasn't going to take it. She tilted the cup back, her head flying back with it as she let the pills fall, supposedly into her mouth. She set the cup back down, picking up the water cup and drinking it quickly before opening her mouth to the guards, showing she'd taken the pills. The guard nodded, signaling she was okay to return to her seat.
When she'd arrived back at her seat, she shook the hem of her shirt, both of the little orange pills fell out the bottom of her shirt. Quickly she picked them up and folded them into the cuffs of her prison uniform since she had the sleeves rolled up. She would take them out later and hide them inside her pillow so she could sell them to other fellow inmates, make quick trades for food or simple weapons.

Meghan couldn't help but to roll her eyes the moment she heard a male speak up about writing a scathing review about the juvenile detention. As she sat there in the eerie silence of the cafeteria she began to look around the room at all the others. No one sat with each other. The closest some of them were to each other were with a skipped seat between them. It was odd, she believed there would be more talkative teenagers in this place but apparently her thoughts were wrong.

Just on time the nurse came into the cafeteria with a silver tray. Each person in the room had their own designated cup with their names on them filled with their prescribed medication. It was no secret the majority of her peers didn't take the medication, she was one of them. The brunette stood to her feet and made her way over to the nurse, retrieved her cup and tipped her head back to take the medication. With a quick maneuver she ended up having her pills in her hand as she opened her mouth to show the nurse before to returned to her seat in the cafeteria.

Just as she had a tall, mysterious male walked into the cafeteria accompanied by a staff member. Wonderful, another newcomer, she thought to herself. She couldn't lie to herself, he was quite attractive and did seem to be a bit intimidating but that just made her more curious about the male. Though as much as she would like to, she wasn't going to allow herself to give into her curiosity. Meghan didn't want to get close to anyone here, especially since she has ROCD. The last person she felt a strong connection with made her end up in this place.

Just three more months of this and I'll be out. Of course Meghan wasn't the only one counting down the days until she could leave this horrible place. She missed her freedom, missed having real food, and most of all she missed the solitude of her bedroom. Meghan felt most at home in her own room. The place where she could be herself and not have to worry about another person. She didn't want to hurt anyone again. Even though she never seemed to understand how she was in the wrong for what she did, she just didn't want to end up back at this place again.

Maxwell let out a harsh sigh as he stepped off the bus and started his way into the building. He didn't understand why he had to serve time for a crime he didn't commit. Nothing about the drugs he was caught with pointed in his direction. They were in the driver's seat, the car belonged to his friend and so did the drugs. How was he the one committed for it and Travis didn't have to serve any sort of time? Worse of all though, his parents didn't even believe him.

It took about thirty minutes for him to be processed into the system before he was lead into the cafeteria where everyone was eating breakfast. He reluctantly stepped into the room and stood to the side of the staff member and looked around at everyone. Surprise, surprise. Nobody is conversing. This is going to be a long couple months, he thought followed by another sigh.

The tall male beside him, who looked to be in his late forties cleared his throat and spoke up to the room, "Everyone, this is Maxwell Harbours." Once he was introduced to everyone in the building he was gestured to go get breakfast and join the rest of his new peers for the last half hour of the breakfast hour.

Maxwell didn't even bother with getting himself anything to eat. All he did was grab himself a cup of orange juice and sat down in an empty seat across from a thin guy about his age. He didn't seem to be giving off any sort of hardcore criminal vibe like the majority of the others were, so he seemed to be his safest choice.

It wasn't that he was scared of anyone there. That was definitely not the case. He just preferred to keep himself away from the big trouble makers as best he possibly could. Maxwell didn't want to end up getting himself into anymore trouble than he already was.

The Attempted Murderer
------------ β™₯ ------------
Kimi sat quietly in the corner of the cafeteria. She ate her food quietly, after her traditional prayer of thanks. Something she had done for the past 4 months she had been in the detention center. The taste of the grits were bland, but she didn't mind much. It reminded her of the days she ate plain sticky rice for lunch. Many of the other teenagers were scattered, hearing the sound of crunching and chewing. Kimi was handed her many medication, the nurse going to Taven first. Kimi said nothing, using the eerie stare she usually had. The nurse simply handed her the pills for her anxious tendencies, Kimi taking them. The nurse nodded and shuffled off quickly, Kimi's eyes never staring intensely and curiously at the woman. Her thoughts bubbled before Andy made his usual wise-crack comment. Taking a sip of her drink, Kimi noted how Taven seemed to enjoy the food while Madeline seemed well... displeased to say the least.

Steps sounded as she noticed a boy entering, her immediate attention on him. She immediately took in his appearance. Dark hair, darker eyes. Her head tilted ever so slightly, her curtain-like hair falling a bit over her face. Maxwell. That was his name. She hummed quietly, noticing the sort of perk Williem had once Maxwell sat across from him. Kimi finished her juice, deciding to sit in her dark corner. Williem wasn't someone she was opposed to but, she figured he wouldn't want to be associated with a girl such as herself. After all, she was called Ju-on for a reason.

Liem stared at the new kid. He found it interesting, he was okay in looks. But what surprised him most, was that the kid spoke to him. Most new kids just ignore Liem, because by now they heard his story. The male shrugged. "Yeah. Just finished going through the processing. So um, I take it no one here is the social type?" the male asked as Liem laughed at him. His dark green/blue eyes staring at him. He took a bite of the grits and swallowed it. Staring at the girl that the new guy was. "Nah, nobody likes to make friends here. People come and go. It'd be better to make friends though. Her name's Taven, barely know the kid, only her name. I'm Williem, call me Liem. If you call me Will, I might kill you," he spoke with a smile, to let the kid know he's making a joke.

He stared at the guy from earlier, who had talked about a Yelp review.

"Oh shut your ass Andy, they won't let you look at a computer after what you did to be landed in here," he spoke. Again, he barely knew the kid, but people do talk. What you did to get into the facility, gets around pretty easily. It's an obvious thing. He looked back towards the kid and smiled. He picked up his piece of toast and bit down on it, swallowing the charcoal taste bitter orange juice.

"Everyone, this is Maxwell Harbours."

Maddie had just reached out to take the white Styrofoam cup full of medicine from the nurse when the loud male voice made the kids in the cafeteria stir with anticipation. She raised her head to see a boy around her age with a short crop of brown hair enter the room, a hesitant look on his face. He sat across from another boy and they began to talk. Maddie thought it best not to eavesdrop.

The pills inside the cup the nurse had delivered to her on a silver tray were small and white. She carefully took them out and placed them on her tongue, swallowing them down with a sip of water. She had never learned how to be sneaky in hiding her meds, so she just took them. In all honesty, Maddie felt good when she had them. Like with the rules put upon her, they kept her in line. Kept her from doing crazy things.

While everyone had their attention on the newcomer, Madeleine took the opportunity to finally study everyone in the cafeteria. Even though she'd been here for almost two weeks, she still couldn't remember everyone's names. She knew Kimi Yubari, a pretty girl of Asian descent, Taven Aldrich, Meghan Hampton and, now that he'd just been introduced, the new boy Maxwell Harbours.

"Oh shut your ass Andy," Madeleine heard the boy across from Maxwell say loudly, "they won't let you look at a computer after what you did to be landed in here." Maddie realized that he was speaking to the boy who had talked about writing a scathing Yelp review, whom she guessed was named Andy.

She was finished her breakfast and Andy seemed nice enough, so she looked over at him and rested her chin in one palm. "So, what did you do to be landed in here?" she asked, not stopping to wonder if she should even ask that. Just because she'd been the shy girl in school, doesn't mean she had to be one here too. Perhaps this was her chance to shed the timidness she hated in herself once and for all.

As the nurse came out Andy saw her going past most of the kids in the hall. Not him, he was not on any medication, neither forced nor by choice. It did scare him a bit at times, I mean...they must get these pills for a reason, right?
He knew not all of them actually took the pills, he heard them dealing in them at times. He had never shown any interest. He had no idea what the pills were for, so best not to try it. Although..., there was a bit of a temptation. Everything else here was just so damn boring, having drugs could break the boredom, at least for a bit. Andy hadn't been tempted yet, but the endless routine was really getting to him. He looked at each of the pill people and was trying to judge if they took the pills or not. They were good enough to hie it from the guards, but the encouraging smile on some of their faces gave it away. He was distracted by the new arrival. Like Andy this guy looked to be from a middle class upbringing. The shoulders straight, a fair bit of redness in the cheeks and an almost military style haircut. Also like Andy he looked innocent enough. No major crime there...
Very much a contradiction to the guy whose table Max joined. Liem was short, not only in height, but in temper too. Andy didn't know the whole story, and didn't know if he'd believe the whole story, but he did know he and Liem wouldn't be the closest of friends.
Andy liked to divide his 'housemates' into categories. The game was shocked, shattered or stupid. The shocked were the mostly innocent kids that made a mistake. They were in the system now, but would be changed when outside of this place. Perfect members of society. The second group was the shattered, the broken ones. In other words the crazy people in here. The ones that go ape-shit without their meds and can do the weirdest stuff with the biggest smile. The ones that make you believe in ghost stories. Until he knew the entire story he couldn't confirm, but he did think there were a few 'shattered' in this place. The fact that Kimi looked like a hot Grudge-girl, ready to jump out of your tv-set at any moment, didn't help.
Lastly there are the stupid. Either too stupid for normal work, too stupid to trust certain people or too stupid to get caught. This was definitely the category Andy belonged to. It was also the category that did not learn much from this whole juvi exercise. It was also the category Andy thought Liem belonged to.
As if Liem could read Andy's mind he spoke: "Oh shut your ass Andy, they won't let you look at a computer after what you did to be landed in here."
Andy acknowledged his comment with the fakest of smiles. Soon after arriving the story about Andy had spread. For most the word hacker was enough to label him forever, 1 or 2 had actually asked what exactly he had hacked. He had told them about a few jobs, although not the big ones. Of course even without knowing the details, Liem's comment was correct. Andy near a computer or phone was asking for trouble, and the detention center was all to aware of this.
Andy got a bit of a shock when the girl next to him asked him: "So, what did you do to be landed in here?"
He thought this was the first time he ever heard her speak. And he would hate to turn a possible nice person away by not responding. He turned in his chair to face her, smiled and responded. "I helped some people with their computers. I'm kind of an expert in that. And those people I helped made quite a bit of money when I helped them, so they paid me for it." He said all of this in a hushed tone. The guards knew what he was in for, he wouldn't give them any more than that. "And you? How did you earn this stay at such a wonderful location?"

After sitting in the cafeteria for what felt like a lifetime, it was finally ready for school. Or at least that's what the staff liked to call it. Meghan preferred to think of it as a bunch of teenage kids sitting in a room with classwork they chose if they wanted to do. It wasn't like they were graded for their work. It was just something the government needed them to do so they could stay in the education system.

With a sigh the brunette stood to her feet and followed the guards to the classroom. The guards always needed to escort them because there were a few people who would skip class. Meghan didn't care either way, she just wanted to get out of there and get back to her normal life.

Once she stepped into the room, she took her assigned seat towards the center of the room and glanced up at the board where their classwork was written in messy handwriting. Meghan looked down at her desk seeing a stack of papers that needed to be done. Of course she was going to do it because there would be nothing better for her to do in this room for the next four hours. Meghan lifted her pencil from the desk and started on her math. Math was always her favorite subject because it was the same in every language.

Maxwell smirked a bit when he noticed Taven begin to stand to her feet before raising her hands in surrender. He glanced over at the guards she was looking at and noticed they had themselves ready to tase her. She must have a temper, he thought. Finally once she stood to her feet she made her way towards the table that was beginning to slowly get crowded.

Maxwell gave the girl a friendly smile after she sat down just before she greeted Liem then turned her attention to himself. "Maxwell or Max?" she questioned. The male just gave a slight shrug of his shoulders and stated, "Doesn't matter. Which ever you'd prefer to call me," he answered. Truly Maxwell didn't care either way. It was his name and if people preferred to call him by a nickname, that would be up to them. Didn't phase him in the least.

"Time for class!" a guard exclaimed in a monotone manner. It seemed as if he was tired of being a building filled with juveniles. At least that's what Maxwell got from the way he was acting. He stood to his feet and followed the rest of the group out the cafeteria and into the classroom. He was greeted by the teacher, a middle aged woman with a few gray strays in her dark hair. "You must be Maxwell Harbours. I would say it's nice to meet you, but it wouldn't be a good thing to say in this building," she said with a sigh with a shake of her head in judgement. Maxwell immediately rolled his eyes at the woman before she introduced herself. "I'm Mrs. Spann. Please take your seat," she stated as she pointed to the empty seat next to Andy.

Maxwell made his way over and took a seat before he whispered in Andy's direction, "Not the nicest of women, is she?" he questioned with a slight chuckle.

"Doesn't matter. Which ever you'd prefer to call me," she heard him say. She bit her lip and shook her head, that wasn't going to work. "Please don't give me the option," she spoke softly, looking at him with a nervous smile. "because next thing you know I'm straying from the both of them and calling you Maxie." Taven spoke quickly, rubbing the back of her neck with a shrug. "Unless you're totally okay with that, then don't choose either and we'll see whatever I start calling you." She took a deep breathe after she was done rambling. She always did whenever she talked to people, she was a quick talker and even quicker with other things that didn't involve speaking. Taven gave one last smile before standing up, walking away from the two boys as she headed back towards her table to grab her tray and dispose of it before she followed behind them to the classroom.

"Goodmorning Mrs. Spann! Chirped Taven cheerfully. She gave the older lady a bright smile before taking her seat at a desk that had a small laptop perched on top of it. She looked around the room, seeing where everyone else was taking their seats before opening up the laptop. The background had a small kitten hanging from a tree with the words 'hang in there' written across the bottom. Of course, it wasn't her choice of a picture, it was whoever dealt out the school supplies for the facilities choice. She guessed they were trying to be inspirational to the kids inside. Taven gave them props for trying. Her fingers clicked against the keys as she typed in her log in and waited for the loading screen to bring up all her school information. Her hand slowly raised as she saw what information popped up before she shook her head, changing her mind and bringing her hand back down. Without asking she rose from her seat, walking to the back of the class to an open bin that had headphones in it. She grabbed a random pair and went to sit back down, plugging them into her computer almost immediately before placing one in her ear, the other hung down in case anybody tried to talk to her so she could hear them. Her fingers tapped against the wooden surface of the desk as she clicked on one of the lessons, listening to the virtual instructor as he began to speak about math. Quadratics to be exact, her least favorite subject in school.

Andy regarded her with a smile. "I helped some people with their computers," he said quietly so that the guards wouldn't hear him, "I'm kind of an expert in that. And those people I helped made quite a bit of money when I helped them, so they paid me for it."

So he was a computer hacker. That made sense now that she thought about it. He didn't seem like the type to go robbing banks or pushing old ladies down staircases. Maddie studied him quietly, the toe of her white Toms tapping gently under the table. He surprised her by asking, "And you? How did you earn this stay at such a wonderful location?"

No one had ever asked her what crime she'd committed to stay here. Which parts were safe to say and which weren't? She didn't want him thinking she was some terrible human being. Madeleine looked down at her hands as she bit her lip and thought about what she would say. "It was stupid," she mumbled, not looking at him. "My friends... they gave me a gun and dared me to bring it into a convenience store. I got out before the police came, but they found the gun and traced it back to me." She smiled softly. "I told you it was stupid."

Before she could say anything else, a guard called in a very cheerless tone, "Time for class!". Maddie stood to her feet abruptly and, before Andy could tell her just in fact how stupid her story sounded, quickly followed the guard to class.

The teacher, Mrs. Spann, was a tall woman somewhere in her forties with dark hair just beginning to streak with silver strands. Mrs. Spann gave Madeleine a small smile as Maddie took her usual seat at the front of the class. Even at her high school she would always pick a seat in the front, since teachers always ended up picking on the kids in the very back who seemed like they weren't paying attention. She watched the others come inside the room, tapping her toes steadily. Maddie smiled a little to herself as she watched the teacher struggle with a whiteboard marker. This was going to be a very long four hours.

Kimi followed into class and took her seat in back, as usual. The many doodles on the desk, kanji written lovingly about her rather... interesting curiosities. Mrs. Spann gave her a quite, polite smile before moving on to the others a bit more fondly. Kimi shrugged it off, eyes flittering about the room. It seemed Taven, Maddie, and Max were becoming rather friendly. For a time. She noted the mumbling, though she couldn't hear what. She had been handed a computer. A shame, she missed using pencil and paper.

" Time for class! ", Mrs. Spann spoke. Kimi took the time to notice her silver stands. When she began finally writing on the board, she noticed that it would be Quadratics that she'd be learning along with the others. She sighed, put off. Kimi was never one for math. It was all too simple, nothing worth looking into or exploring. Everything was simply too... easy.

Her eyes went to the door, noting that Kane arrived late. She always found Kane a little interesting, but not quite her... Person of Interest. Yet, he had potential to be. Thinking of him made her heart flutter slightly. She hummed happily. Lost in her own thoughts, she hadn't noticed Kane taking a seat next to her until the scraping of the chair startled her out of her daydreams. Kimi flinched lightly, eyes sharp and highly aware of him. Within a few moments, she noted a few places where it might be good to jab. Granted, she was in class. Not exactly the best time or place to lash out. Kane had made no move to harm her, so she decided against her urges. Though she was cautious, why sit next to her when she could sit next to Taven? Or even Meghan? They were beautiful, perhaps something more his taste. Adam and Williem might be better company, as the two seemed to always have something to say. Maxwell or Michael would be good for a study. Yet here he was, sitting next to Kimi Yubari. The Grudge Girl.

She paused a moment before speaking a simple, " Hello. "

Kane kept a calm face but inside he was smirking at the small reaction he obtained out of Kimi. He had expected indifference to his change of procedure but this was much better and meant he could advance himself further along than he originally thought. But his mind advised caution, she may be attractive but he wanted to take it easy so as not to provoke her. Kane quickly scanned through his work, Quadratics, pft, childsplay. When it came to most educational subjects Kane’s keen mind could rip through this with relative ease. Education was never a problem for Kane which allowed him to use his mind for more important tasks. As he was sorting his papers he heard a soft voice speak to him to his left, β€œHello.” Inside Kane smiled, she had opened the door, now all he had to do was get his foot in. He turned towards her and gave a warm smile, β€œHello there.” Kane said calmly but friendly so as not to provoke her, β€œHow may I be of assistance m’lady?” He asked in a sincere tone.

Kimi ignored Kane, going to her work immediately. She had acknowledged him once, and keeping on record, she wouldn't really do it again. She couldn't help but pull on a pair of headphones a bit forcefully, opening the lesson and starting. Now Kimi wasn't a genius, but she certainly could do well. Numbers were more of just an annoyance. They were too straight forward. Nothing was fun about them. Numbers brought no adventure or excitement. Not like people did.

People were always so interesting. Kimi always did like people, the ways they worked. The ways their organs worked. She learned a lot from people, they always had something new to bring to the table. Perhaps Kane could too. She huffed a little, pausing her work. Yet, she wasn't him . If he wasn't Michael, Kimi really didn't want much to do with him. After all, she only ever really needed one person in her life. Though she did have her mother still, but she was an acceptation. She mulled over it tapping her fingers carefully on the keys.

And just as easily as Kane had her attention he lost it. Kane wasn’t insulted by her ignoring him, he had expected this response among other possible responses. The fact she was isolating herself from him made Kane all the more interested in getting past her shell. Giving her one more smile and a nod he returned to his work, acknowledging her dismissal and returning to the math before him.

Kane found such applications of his mind to be wasted as his comprehension of the subject was long since obtained. He would much rather find challenge in other fields and subjects which was one of the reasons he found himself in prison. Ironically it didn’t matter what the subject was, he would inevitably try to use it in some criminalistic activity. For example, Kane had found himself studying art after watching one of his favorite crime shows in an effort to replicate the acts. Only one subject was exempt from this and that was philosophy, a subject he very much enjoyed and one he had no desire to corrupt with his criminalistic endeavors.

Philosophy was part of what kept him from taking a step off of the deep end. From becoming a more darker and violent version of what people currently saw. It helped him in deciding the course to take in his life and now it helped him here as he sat among criminals. But would it help him when he was playing with fire once again?
