Background
Some people are forced into a life of crime out of desperation. Others chose to follow the path in for some idealistic or monetary gain. What is my reason? Because I can.
For one Kane Montmorency one might think otherwise about his statement. Kane was born to a loving, upper class mother and father. His father was a devoted husband and father whom held a respectable job at a law firm and his mother was a middle school teacher. Though they lived the life high society and their fellow wealthy friends expected, their lives were almost as normal as any other family. For Kane, the only thing abnormal about his life was his acute mind, otherwise But all happiness comes to an end at some point. And then, it wasnβt. Kaneβs father was a prosecutor in the justice department and was pursuing a conviction for a rather wealthy man, Ulrich Falkner, who was suspected of embezzlement and connection to organized crime. Kaneβs father was determined to bring this man down that he didnβt recognize the danger Ulrich posed and when the family least expected it, disaster struck.
When he was nine years old Kane returned home from school one day to find cops and detectives swarming his home. Kane ran past them into the home against their objections and briefly saw his dead father in their living room before cops dragged him kicking and screaming outside. From what the officers said when they thought Kane couldnβt hear them it appeared to have been a hit on his family and the only reason Kane was alive was the fact he was at school. In the end the police caught his parents killer but though they knew he was connected to Ulrich Falkner they didnβt have any evidence to pursue a prosecution. Kane meanwhile was placed into an orphanage due to the fact there were no family members able to take him in and none of his parents βfriendsβ lifted a finger to help the poor child.
During his stay at the orphanage Kane had time to think about the sudden change in his life. He had lost his parents, had no family or friends and he couldnβt touch any of his parents money until he was much older. Essentially he had almost vanished from the world to live in conditions less than he was used to, but Kane adapted. Kane mostly spent his time thinking about the man who was suspected of having his parents killed and thinking of ways to get even. It wasnβt until he started reading crime mysteries, most notably Sherlock Holmes, that he decided how to do it. Over the course of four years Kane changed from the happy go lucky boy to calm, calculating and manipulative young man with a keen mind. Kane would use his talents on a minor scale, having other kids at the orphanage steal things for him while keeping himself distanced enough to avoid being implicated as the mastermind of the crime. Kane worked to perfect his art as a criminal mastermind in preparation for his future revenge.
It came when Kane learned Falkner had a teenage son named Malcolm, a rich arrogant snob Kane could use to his advantage. Using his skills he manipulated events so the two would βcoincidentallyβ meet the boy after school at one of his hang outs. It took a bit of time and acting on his part but Kane managed to befriend the son of his parentβs killer. Kane built this friendship and trust to get into the inner world of Ulrich Falkner and find a way to destroy this man's world. Of course Malcolm was a typical rich kid, showing off his status, flanuting his money and toys and treating those close to him like his frat brothers, one of those brothers being Kane. It took a couple more years of work and planning before Kaneβs plan went into action.
One day when Malcolm was drunk, Kane stole one of Malcolmβs cards his father gave him and contacted a well known hacker to have him to access all of the Falkner accounts. Kane had the hacker steal millions from the man and transfer it to hidden tax haven accounts overseas. Kane also had the hacker find information on Ulrichβs criminal enterprises and send them to the authorities through the manβs own email account. And so Kaneβs plan had come to pass, the man whom had killed his parents was now broke, exposed and his own life was at risk as many of his cohorts would assume he had leaked information to the police. And all of this was accomplished without being traced back to Kane. It may have horrified his parents if they lived to see what he became but Kane was now a criminal and he wasnβt finished. Kane had not forgotten his parents βfriendsβ who had systematically ignored his plight and sought revenge against them now that his main target was out of play.
In the end however Kane caught when one of his people was caught and in an attempt to get a reduced sentence turned Kane in for the crimes he committed against Falkner. At the hearing the prosecutor charged Kane with Grand larceny and used the death of Kaneβs parents to further solidify the connection. The prosecutor tried to get Kane to return the money but Kane was able to sell them the story the money had been used to implicate his other victims and pay criminals to do jobs. In the end Kane was found guilty of Grand Larcany and now resides at juvenile hall until he is eighteen. But though caught, Kane is far from done with his life of crime. He just sitting calmly in his cell trying to figure out his next big crime while contemplating only one dilemma he has.
Should he wait to be released or plot to escape?
Personality
Surprisingly Kane is a well mannered young man with a kind and warm deposition. He generally tries to get along with those he comes into contact with but donβt think Kane isnβt capable of switching personaβs. Generally he is a calm and collective person but when the mastermind is at work he is cool and effective, acting with the air of an in control person with nary a flinch at a loss of control. Having connections with the criminal world Kane can share empathy with other criminals depending on the criminal themselves and may help them if he can. This also extends to his own personal code which includes his loyalty. Kane is loyal to a fault so long as that loyalty is returned. Kane would never turn a fellow criminal unless his own life or those he cared about were at risk.
Mentally Kane is a very intelligent and keen person which has allowed him to advance in studies much further than normal teens could. He prides himself on his intelligence and ability to use it effectively. As such he will typically think his way out of a problem before resorting to more physical options. This means he will manipulate others into doing his work for him and not link him to the incident. And he is good at doing it. He may not be a smooth talker but he is quite good at using logic, reasoning and negotiation to get what he wants. Though when it comes to matching wits with other intellects Kane it can go either way with him from a friendly debate to an all out belittling insulting match. The former being in good faith, the second out of spite.
Physically Kane is well fit, heβs no jock but heβs no slacker either. He keeps himself in good shape, mostly favoring running to other activities. However his upbringing in the orphanage made him face fact, though he wanted to be in control from a distance sometimes you have to get your own hands dirty. Kane has studied Kenpo as a self defense method and has expressed interest in other arts.
