"I want to travel the world," Nyeira finally stated in the silence between the two of them. "Tomorrow I'm leaving, to start focusing on myself, my life. You have a life here, it's time for me to find my own," Nyeira finished.
Nyeira knew there was more to her life than just being alone. She was meant for something and she was determined to find out what it was. Whether it was for her to become a teacher, own a store, or even just wash dishes at a fast food restaurant. Whatever it was, it was Nyeira's time to figure it out.
Of course it was going to hurt leaving Kat behind, but she would always come back to visit. She wouldn't just disappear. Not from Kat anyway.
Nyeira reached into her jacket pocket and pulled out a pack of cigarettes before lighting one up and taking a drag from it. Even though she was eighteen, it would immediately enrage her parents if they found out she had been smoking. Of course she doesn't really care anymore because she was now an adult and of legal age to make decisions for herself; including smoking and going off on trips whenever she wanted.

Kat had been resting back on her elbows, her feet crisscrossed in front of her and her eyes aimed straight up, along with the rest of her face. The silence was normal between the two girls. They had come to realize that sometimes, especially after a long day, each other's presence was simply enough. There was no need to joke or even speak. Just be. It was something Kat relished in. She was quite the chatterbox, of course, but even the most talkative of people can appreciate some good old silence every so often.
Nyeira's statement caused Kat to sit up and turn toward her. She was silent for a moment, hundreds of different thoughts running through her head. She was right, of course, Kat had a life seemingly planned out for her. See, the reason these two girls had been sitting here and processing wasn't just because of a long day. Kat had met her soulmate today.
The man was pretty... unimpressive at first. Not to say he wasn't hot. Even Kat had to admit he was more beautiful than all things holy. They met at the aquarium, where Kat and Nyeira had been hanging out all day, seeing how many false fish facts they could spout out to people before they were removed from the establishment. Then, she saw his wrist. For a moment, Kat could see their entire future together. Growing old, seeing their children off to college, sitting on a porch in some rural nowhere holding hands until death. But then he spoke. His first words to her were "Oh... So you're it, huh?" Nevertheless, they traded numbers and agreed that they would try meeting again another time.
The entire encounter had been a bit jarring for Kat, and it hadn't occurred to her until just now that maybe it had made Ny feel the same way. Suddenly, Kat wasn't so excited for her future. She wasn't necessarily vying to meet this new boy who she would spend her life with. After all, they had their whole lives to be together, right? So then, she decided.
"Well I'm going with you."

This was going to be one of the hardest conversations she was going to have in her entire life. These two were inseparable almost their entire lives and now Nyeira was telling Kat she was going to leave her. There was no way she was going to end up leaving on her own tomorrow, she knew that. But she needed to let Kat now how important it was for her to stay here and allow her to make her decision on her own. Whatever the final decision was, Nyeira would respect it.
She took another drag from her cigarette and turned her head to the left as she exhaled, in order for her not to blow it directly into Kat's face. "I'll return for your wedding day and be right there beside you through it all. So if that's what you're worried about then don't." Nyeira added, hoping that's all it was.
Nyeira didn't want to be the reason Kat skipped out on her entire future. She wanted Kat to get married and spend her life with her soul-mate. She already knew if Kat tagged along, the two of them would never return. Nyeira just couldn't do that to Kat. She wanted her to be happy, no matter what it took.

"Nyeira Kate Saunders, if you really think you're going anywhere without me anytime soon, you're a bigger fool than I thought. Now get your ass up, we need to go let our parents know that we're leaving."
Kat stood, one of her famous grins on her face. She was excited for this journey. Anything to get her mind off the ass of a man she was going to have to marry soon. Seeing the world was always something she wanted to do, and to be honest, Kat was hoping that maybe she could just un-meet her soulmate. Maybe he would just forget?
Oh shiiiiii- she thought. She was going to have to tell her parents about this man. As much as she wanted to pretend that he just didn't exist, she knew that she couldn't. Perhaps she could convince her parents that the wedding could wait? Let her have an extended bachelorette party, in a way. It was going to take a lot, especially since her mother already had her wedding almost completely planned out, but she was going to do anything she could to go with Ny. If it took cashing in eighteen years of good behavior, then so be it.

"We'll start with my parents, we both know they'd be the easiest ones to talk to," she stated as she helped Kat up and started to make her way through the empty field back towards the road.
As difficult it would be to talk her parents into allowing Kat to go with her, deep down she hopes they give in. This journey wouldn't be the same without her best friend and partner in crime. Ny would have to figure out how to live on her own and make new friends. Of course she would have no problem doing just that if the answer was an astounding "No."
Ny took the last drag from her cigarette before tossing the butt to the side of the road. All they had to do was cross this road and they would be in their neighborhood. That just meant they were a few moments closer to dealing with the kraken.

"I'm excited.. where are we going anyway? Did you have any plans before you baked up this half-assed idea? Or am I gonna be the one who is stuck doing all of the planning." She smiled at the last part of her statement.
Of course, Kat wasn't actually angry at Ny, and she definitely didn't think she was dumb. The two girls walked up to the front door of the Saunders' home, and Kat looked over to Nyeira.
"You ready?

When they got up to the door of her home, she took a deep breath and stepped inside. Her parents were watching television. This was always normal for them around this time of the day. They always had to watch their soap and thankfully the girls stepped in just as it was reaching the end. "Mom... Dad," she stated, grabbing her parents' attention as she made her way into the living room with Kat at her side.
Nyeira cleared her throat and spoke once more, realizing her parents was giving her room to say what she needed. "I believe it would be best for me to go out and travel the world. Given that I don't have anyone waiting on me, there is no reason I shouldn't be able to find my place in this world," she explained.
The very moment her mother heard those words her expression quickly softened and she glanced over at her husband who sat there with a vacant expression. Clearly her father didn't know what to say. "Honey. Of course we understand. You're of age and you need to set out and find your place in this world. Just be careful," her mother answered and reached over to grab Ny's father's hand.
Nyeira could tell her father agreed with her mother, but just like every father in the world; he just didn't want to let his baby girl go. "Kat, would you be going with her?" Lucinda questioned.

Kat was only slightly taken aback by Ny's parents saying yes so easily. Of course they would, they had always been so open and understanding with their daughter. Not that Kat was jealous or angry, it was just an observation. It was interesting to see how easily Ny could talk to her parents. Kat never really felt that way about her own parents. They always seemed to expect a lot from her, and she never felt truly open with them.
Kat was surprised when Ms. Lucinda addressed her right away. It was as if she knew the girls' plan all along.
"Yes ma'am, I'm going with her. I'll keep our little girl out of trouble."
She winked and let out a chuckle. It was a running joke that Kat was a part of the family, and she liked to play to it often. In a way, she was a part of the family. The two girls were over at each other's houses more often than not, and they basically had two separate wardrobes. One at home and one at the other's house. They stopped even asking to spend the night years ago, because of how close they lived and how easy it was to just say i'll be at ny's house! with no opposition.

"Ready for one of the toughest conversations of you life?" Nyeira questioned seriously. She always knew how Kat's parents were and she definitely knew without a doubt in her mind her parents weren't going to budge easily on this one.
Allowing Kat to run of with Nyeira, knowing that she has her entire future on the line was just not going to happen. If they allowed her to go with her, she would inevitably be shocked but also very excited. Nyeira gently squeezed Kat's hand in comfort as she spoke, "I'll be right here through it all. I have your back."
With those words, Nyeira turned, leading Kat towards her own home. Nyeira hoped this conversation would blow over without a huge argument, but she didn't hold her breath on that thought.

The conversation was over so quickly that it took Kat a moment to adjust to Ny pulling her out of the house. She sighed. This was going to be quite the conversation. She loved her parents to death, but God, did they make stuff like this difficult. She nodded to Nyeira's question. While she knew it was going to take a lot of convincing, she was ready to at least try this.
Kat followed Ny to her house and entered, immediately knowing that this conversation was going to SUCK. Her family was seated at the dinner table, obviously in the middle of a tense dinner. Imogene had probably brought up some controversial topic, as she always seemed to do. She was only fifteen years old, but was already smarter than most adults in the country. She had so much going for her, between her beauty and brains, it was a wonder she wasn't stuck up or self-centered.
"Glad you decided to join us, Katarina. You too, Nyeira." Kat's father was the first one to speak up. There was an awkward silence, and Kat made eye contact with Ny, signaling her to go take a seat at the dinner table.
Kat sat down, making eye contact with Imogene, who snickered. It was like she could tell what Kat was about to do.
"So.. uh.. mom and dad... Can I talk to you about something?"
The adults put their utensils down and made eye contact with each other, sensing what was about to happen. Realizing that she was going to have to be the first one to break the silence, Kat cleared her throat.
"I'm going away with Ny. I don't know where, or when, or for how long. And I know that normally that wouldn't be a big deal at all, but I met my soulmate today."
She looked over at Nyeira, searching for something comforting, while her mother began to lay out on her why that was an absolute NO.
Imogene muttered a small "yikes."

When the room noticed the two of them enter, Kat's father spoke up. "Glad you decided to join us, Katarina. You too, Nyeira." After his warm welcome, the room fell awkwardly silent and Nyeira noticed Kat glance over towards her, signaling her to sit down and that was exactly what she had done. Every night both of their families always make an extra place for the girls at their family dinners in case they choose to show up for dinner. They were pretty much adopted into each other's families. If they didn't like what one family was having, they would go eat at the others' house. This always worked for each other in their opinion and their parents never seemed to be bothered by it.
The moment Kat finally sat down, she heard Imogene let out a snicker and Nyeira glanced over at the girl before quietly starting to fix her plate. Even though this was going to be an interesting conversation, she still needed something to eat so she was going to go ahead while she could.
When Kat finally spoke up and grabbed her parents's attention, utensils were set down, signaling that it was most likely going to be smart for her to do the same. Just as expected, Kat's mother began lecturing the girls on all the many reasons why her answer was a definite no.
When Kat's mother finally stopped talking, Nyeira cleared her throat and the entire room seemed to set their eyes upon the girl.
"What if we made a deal? Nyeira started and Kat's mother immediately seemed to be intrigued by Nyeira's effort. What if Kat returned within three weeks time of the wedding, I'm sure you already have organized, just like every mother does for their daughter when they meet their soul mate; so she would have enough time to make sure her dress fits and whatnot."
Nyeira reached for her glass of water and took a sip from it before adding, "If she agreed to this, would you then be okay with her going?" Nyeira knew for certain her mother was most likely going to continue on saying no, but at least Nyeira was putting in the effort. She had her fingers crossed beneath the table as she sat there in the sudden awkward silence awaiting an answer from her parents.

Kat's eyes widened at Ny's suggestion. She hadn't even thought about something like that, she had just assumed they would push the wedding back until whenever Kat and Nyeira returned, together. She wasn't really looking forward to marrying the douche she had met earlier. He didn't seem excited to marry her either. But the system is always right, right?
Kat was astonished when her mother gave an exaggerated sigh and answered "Fine. Three weeks though, to the day. We will hold you to it."
Kat screamed. Well, maybe it was more like a squeal, but whatever it was, it was a happy noise. She stood up and hugged Nyeira, jumping up and down with excitement. This was going to be the best trip of her life, she could feel it all the way down to her little toes.

Nyeira knew this was going to be the trip that would change her life forever and it was going to be even better knowing her best friend was going to be there with her through it all. When they reached Kat's room, she immediately opened Kat's closet and began to pull out some of her clothes and toss them onto her bed for her to start packing.
"You definitely need this, and this, this, that," she continued as she threw things onto the bed before finally stopping herself when she went to open her underwear drawer. Nyeira never seemed to have a problem with it before but for some reason she finally felt a bit awkward about it. "Um, you should do this part," she stated as she slowly took a seat on the edge of Kat's bed a bit awkwardly.
