Nani || Everyone he knows calls him Nani other than his father who he hasn't seen in years. Nani has never wanted to be called Aonani ever since he was taken in by his adoptive mother and his father left his life.

Nani's hair is a light orange. He keeps it rather shaggy and allows it to come to his ears and an inch or so down his neck. His hair grows to a brownish color when wet. His hair is extremely soft from some oils his mother gave him growing up. He doesn't use them for any reason other than to stay connected to his mother. His hair always smells nicely thanks to the oils although by night after working around the house, it smells more along the lines of a farm than anything else.

--» |:E y e s:|
Nani's eyes are an emerald green like the gems worn by the finest emperors. They are shaped in an almond way and are usually seen with a glint of curiosity and joy in his eyes. Rarely are they sad and even rarer do they create tears. Nani is very good about controlling what his eyes reveal when he talks and is rarely discovered when he is lying thanks to his ability to hold eye contact and keep his eyes neutral. Around the green parts of his eyes, there are flecks of blue around the pupil mostly.

--» |:H e i g h t:|
Nani stands at 6'0" as his father was rather tall. His mother, being around 5'7" was amazed that her son grew to be so tall since the rest of her family is mostly short.

--» |:W e i g h t:|
Nani weighs around 175 lbs. Nani is extremely thin from his family's status and is rather strong from doing all the heavy lifting around the villege he's lived in since most men were busy protecting the village. Nani's back and arms are muscular thanks to his lifting of the water and the feed for all the animals.

--» |:B u i l d:|
Nani has an strong build that appears athletic without having over sized muscles. He doesn't look like much standing around, but when he is using muscles to lift anything, they are easily visible. He has a faint outline on his stomach. Nani is lean and able to move around easily without any difficulty. He walks lightly except when in a hurry in which case he does what he can to get to his goal fastest.

--» |:M a r k i n g s:|
Nani has a large scar running across his shoulder where his father had burnt him growing up. Nani keeps the scar covered up with bandage even though he does not need to. He hates the scar and keeps it hidden from embarrassment.

Nani is searching for a potential wife. He hopes to one day find someone that he could potentially be with though he doesn't know who he could possibly be with considering there is not many women in the village he lives in that are not already married. Nani used to like a girl until she was married off to a man in a nearby village, causing Nani to not want to really interact with anyone for fear of being let down yet again.

|:S k i l l s
:|
--» Gong || Nani is skilled with the gong, or bow, as he uses it to hunt for food. He has been using it ever since his mother's friend taught him how to use it when he was ten. Nani has made multiple gongs as well as his own arrows as he doesn't see the need to buy them when he can just as easily create them.

--» Painting || In order to earn money for his family, Nani has taken up painting when he is not needed around his mother's shop. He takes ink to a nearby river to try and capture scenes. He usually takes around five or six sheets of paper that he would buy in the market that day and only leave with one or two paintings that he thought would be nice enough to make a profit.

--» Cooking || Even though it is looked down upon that Nani should cook, Nani does so only because his mother is so busy and wouldn't eat otherwise. He doesn't blame her and tries to make her life easier since she does everything she can for Nani.

--» Swordplay/knives || Nani learned from his father how to use a sword though he hates the weapon. When trying to remove unruly customers from his mothers court, Nani uses a bokken to remove them though he only pulls it out when threatened. Nani has used the bokken multiple times to help the ladies in the court. Nani prefers not to use his bokken and hates when he has to pull it, but knows he won't accidentally kill anyone with it like his father did. When Nani's abilities were not up to speed in order to be a bodyguard in the east army, he was trained in a more specific and deadly way though he hates causing death and avoids it at almost any cost. Nani is much better with knives than a sword as he is able to move them around more versatility. He loves to use his knives in practice though he hates harming anyone with them. He just loves the grace that he feels comes with wielding the smaller blades.

|:A b i l i t i e s:|
--» Illusions || Nani has the ability to create illusions with his painting. Nani has only ever used these a few times as he does not like any of his abilities and tries to hide them often. Nani need only draw what he wishes to form and whisper an old prayer that his mother had taught him that was once said to Byakko. The illusions appear real though when they are fought, should they be cut in any way, the paper rips and the illusion disappears.

--» Stealth/Stalking/Speed || Nani has the ability to blend in with the shadows like his secondary form. Nani can walk silently and be undetected when wishes to be. Nani has even discovered how to efficiently scale anything from buildings to trees in times unlike that of most humans. He is also extremely quick thanks to his nature, able to move faster than most yokai.

--» Regeneration || Nani is able to regenerate certain limbs of his body depending on how severe it is. Considering his lifestyle, he only uses the ability when he accidentally cuts himself while cooking or skinning a catch. Nani heals extremely quickly within a span of a few minutes though only when he has a leveled heartbeat and is not being harmed anymore.

--» Shapeshifting || Nani has the ability to transform into his secondary form of the white red fox. He rarely uses this form as it is a large reminder of what he truly is and he hates to be transforming into a fox because of this. However, when he takes his secondary form, he is much happier as he feels free though he has a hard time going back to his original form because of him not wanting turn back after the love of being in the form takes over.

"Don't bother trying to goad me into doing anything stupid, I can do stupid things without being convinced."

--» Hates what he is || Growing up, Nani's father hated what he was because of something that had happened as a youth, accidentally killing someone he loved. Nani's father tried to instill that hatred into Nani so that Nani wouldn't hurt anyone he loved and did so successfully. Nani can't stand what he is and rarely uses his special abilities as he doesn't want to be like his father, believing his father was cruel to him because he was a yokai.

--» Hates what his mother does || Nani hates what his mother sells and wishes she would stop though he knows he cannot convince her as she feels the need to provide for him. Nani refuses to go into the court unless someone is in danger or being treated badly in which case he would interfere, then leave to go back to the apartment or out to help around village.

--» Likes to know everyone || Nani tries to get to know everyone as best he can even if he won't interact with them much in the future. He knows everyone in the village other than anyone knew and is very good about remembering things about people, liking to check up on them when they are in a rough spot or have been sick.

|:P e r s o n a l i t y
:|
Chivalrous; having the qualities of chivalry, as courage, courtesy, and loyalty.
Bashful; uncomfortably diffident and easily embarrassed; shy; timid.

Nani is very gentle when it comes to his nature. He would prefer avoiding conflict as long as it doesn't hurt him or others around him. When someone is at risk however, he will do whatever he can to stop something bad from happening. Nani's gentleness is obvious in the way he refuses to harm something if he can, not finding it his place or wanting to because of what his father did.

Nani does not believe he is very strong or capable to do anything other than chores around his village and can get very shy when it comes to talking to girls. Though he is not specifically looking to find a wife, he can't help but become shy and feels embarrassed about talking to them. Nani does not try to show off and rarely thinks he has done well.

Even though Nani has always been content with his life, he feels something is missing. He sometimes has thought about leaving the village but doesn't know where he would go. He has always wondered about what was really happening outside of the village though he doesn't really ask as he fears drawing too much attention to himself.

Nani likes to think of himself as someone who will try his best even if it isn't always going to be great. He doesn't care if a task doesn't seem possible, he will try to complete it and to the best of his abilities before he deems it not doable. Knowing how hard people in the village work, Nani doesn't like to accept money from people he helps as he knows it's probably nearly all they have.

On the occasion he is confronted, Nani will not hesitate to defend himself and will quickly make sure it is clear, he does not like to be messed with and will not go down without a fight. Nani refuses to kill someone but would rather knock someone unconscious before he runs to avoid them coming after him, or someone he loves, again.

Kyogo; Father; Unknown; Kitsune Yōkai
Yumi; Mother; Unknown; Kitsune Yōkai

The winter solstice arrive and along with it, a baby kitsune yōkai was born to two parents of the same race. His mother, Yumi, disgusted with herself for having a child, abandoned the baby with the mate, Kyogo, she had taken for a season, leaving without a second thought. However, Kyogo believed Yumi was in love with him and would never leave until she did, days after Nani's birth. At this time, Kyogo named his son after his wife and the weather outside, deeming the night to be clear in the light of the moon. Kyogo, not wishing to abandon the young baby, took it to the closest village that he could think of to give the baby away.

As Kyogo arrived, he encountered a women by the name of Asari, falling in love with her nearly instantly. Asari, the owner of a pleasure house in the village, took Kyogo and Aonani to her court where she allowed them refuge, taken with the unique figure she believed was a regular man. Kyogo found himself unable to leave and Asari continued to offer her hospitality to Kyogo, not wanting him to leave either. Asari agreed to assist Kyogo raise his son though did not know what Aonani really was.

As Aonani grew, his father would disappear for days at a time to hunt, shifting to go out and stretch in the form he loved. However, as Nani began to develop his own abilities in a way he could control them, Kyogo realized what Aonani was. Aonani was just like Kyogo, something Kyogo feared greatly. Not wanting to see his own son become heartbroken, Kyogo hardened his heart in order to help his son. He would take Aonani out on the hunting trips as Aonani grew up, punishing Aonani every time he should use one of his yōkai abilities.

When Aonani discovered his ability of illusions, he frightened his father in a display he hoped would please him. Aonani performed an illusion on a massive skale, setting the forest around his father and him on fire with a raging wildfire. Under the impression it was real, Kyogo grabbed his son and started to run through the forest, ready to cut down anything in his way. The first branch with fire on it that Kyogo struck, fell though without a fire, causing the entire illusion around them to stop as Kyogo's blade had struck a flame and therefore, the paper with the drawing of a wildfire on it back in the clearing the two had originally been in.

Kyogo was furious as he realized what his son had done. Kyogo brought the young eight year old Aonani back to the clearing where he started a fire. Something had broken in him that night. Instead of a loving father who had just wanted to protect his son, Kyogo truly wanted to punish Aonani, wanted to hurt him. That night, Aonani returned home to the court with an extreme burn on his shoulder.

Furious, Asari refused to allow Kyogo inside. Kyogo, heartbroken once again, left after being told Asari would kill him for what he had done to her son. Asari began to coddle Aonani, telling everyone to call him Nani, wanting to take away anything that had once belonged to Kyogo like he had nearly done to her, including the gift of giving Aonani his name. Nani began helping his mother as often as he could around the court, not really understanding what was happening around him.

When Nani was around the age of twelve, the village was attacked by bandits multiple times. In order to avoid the death of anymore lives, the men of the village left to protect it, deciding the best course of action would be to find the location of the bandits. Nani was asked to help around the village doing various things. Nani met a young girl when he was doing a favor for her mother. The two began seeing each other though when her mother discovered what was happening, she went to Asari and told her the girl was already betrothed to another man in a nearby village.

Asari, not wanting to see Nani hurt, talked to him once he got home. Upon doing so, Nani immediately went to go see her to see if it was true only to see she and her mother had just left the village, going to the man she was betrothed to. Heartbroken, Nani returned home and avoided any approaches from girls who seemed interested in him. Asari saw the hurt and tried to help him though Nani pushed off the attempts, claiming to be fine.

Nani never really talked with those who worked at the court about what they did though he did become friends with them and made a close friend named Rimudo. The two talk together and confide in each other the deepest secrets that get under their skin or bother them, giving Nani an out and ability to calm down and let everything out.

Around the age of fourteen, Nani had been in a large town near his village trying to sell some paintings when he spotted a girl who seemed rather lost. Wondering who she was, he watched her as he continued to man his stand. As he was watching, a few young men approached her. At first it appeared as if they would help her until they started to pick on her, pushing her around before pushing her in the mud. Nani could hear the comments from where he was an saw nobody paying the scene any attention. The men, who were also yokai, were insulting her, saying something about her being only worthy enough to be their next delicacy.

Nani, horrified, abandoned his stand to go stand in front of the girl, facing the other yokai. Nani stared up at the men, not nearly as afraid of them as he was of other yokai he had met. Nani warned the men, not wanting them to really try to fight him, four against one was hardly fair. When the men laughed, Nani began whispering a prayer to Suzaku, his mother having always worshiped that God over the others, even the one that looked over the country they lived in. The men's humor wore thin when Nani turned his back on them, still whispering his prayer while he tried to block the girl's vision of what would appear behind him.

Nani took her shoulders, and finished the prayer, now whispering for her to keep looking at him and to not look behind him as he tried to lead her away from the men who were panicking behind him. The people in the market ran, fear coursing through them as they saw what appeared to be a dragon yokai, rather similar to what Nani had always heard Seiryu looked like in his secondary form.

As Nani tried to lead the girl away, he encountered a blonde haired man with red eyes. Upon being thoroughly questioned about what he was doing and who he was, Nani was offered an opportunity to be in the army of the east. Nani, not sure if he wanted to handle the life of a soldier, took a moment to think over his options. He could stop his mother's business and she would be provided for. He might not see Rimudo again, but his mother would never have to work in such a way again. Nani agreed and was taken under Akihiko's wing. Nani was trained in ways he never would have been before and though he had a tough time training to use weapons on others, Nani learned in order to keep his mother in the palace.

The high-pitched whistle of wood through air was followed by a sharp crack as the implement in question landed a resounding hit over the young man’s collarbone, exploiting the obvious hole in his guard and sending him staggering backwards. The assailant remained temporarily frozen in the seconds afterwards, allowing his trainee to get an idea of exactly how and why the hit had occurred. Akihiko and Aonani were, as was generally their practice, out training first thing in the morning, the lord’s gold-embroidered scarlet gi the only indication of his rank or identity. He wore the same plain black hakama as any soldier did to train, and at the moment, his proper sword was elsewhere, meaning he carried only a bokken.

Again.

Nani held a bokken in his hands at the ready, his body slick with sweat. He had been training for some time with Akihiko and he was nearly positive he hadn't done anything to his teacher other than give him a bunch of chances to hit him, no bruises or landing any real hits. He was practically panting after his latest loss in their most recent match. "What is it I'm doing that allows you so many openings, my lord?" Nani asks, wanting to know what he was doing wrong. He hated when he couldn't figure out his own mistakes, he had waited three rounds before he had asked his teacher, trying to figure it out on his own.

Akihiko stepped back, allowing his student some room to adjust and find his feet again. It went without saying that such an opportunity would not be afforded in a real fight, but this was only a sparring match, and an instructive one at that. What worked for learning purposes was often different than what worked in real-world application. As long as Nani appreciated the difference, Akihiko was doing his job. Lowering his blade to hang with deceptive nonchalance near his side, he tilted his head to the side, narrowing his eyes slightly, an expression more indicative of scrutiny than straightforward displeasure.

You are telegraphing.” The words were short, terse, but not angry. Akihiko spoke with an economy of words; generally speaking, where fewer would do, he did not use more. Of course, there were a number of reasons Nani could not hit him, some of them having to do with experience and natural capacity. But for these sessions, the Lord of the East checked his speed and strength, so that what stood between them was a matter of skill alone. Nani was quite talented, but he was also, at this point, quite predictable. His eyes and the orientation of his body always gave away where he was going to strike. He took too long to decide, sometimes, and those seconds allowed his opponent to predict with uncanny accuracy what he was going to attempt next. “Calculate less. Trust your instincts.” Akihiko had shaped them himself, after all.

Nani didn't hate practicing using swords, it was just definitely not his favorite. Nani nodded his understanding to Akihiko. He knew he had always had that issue. He thought about it for a moment, considering his previous movements and catching actions that would have given his movements away to any swordsman who had any good experience. Nani nodded once again, trying to find a way to think instead of how he was. He noticed he was thinking his actions through like he might when hunting. He couldn't do that when his opponent had a higher process of thinking than an animal.

Nani considered his other hobbies, finding his best choice to be thinking as if he was painting and the bokken was his brush. He hardly thought when he painted, just doing what he saw. Nani nodded one last time, then readied himself again. Breathing deeply, he watched Akihiko carefully, then moved. He didn't think as he went, only reacting when he needed to. Nani did not think about his actions, but reacted when he saw the need to, like he did when he saw paint starting to drip. He felt the difference rather than saw it as he didn't bother trying plan out what he would do. He was being far more spontaneous.

Listless lavender eyes roamed the empty halls. She was never one for late nights, but Suzume could not fall asleep last night. She was working on a new haori top, carefully threading the needle through the threads before she had realized the time. It was a gift, and a special one at that. The material she was using was silk, and she had ran out of it before she could finish the haori. She needed more, and the lack of sleep was impairing her judgement at the moment. She paused, only seconds of saving herself from running into one of the many people employed by her adoptive father. She spun around on her heel, bracing herself against the wall, and blinked in a rapid succession.

"I'm sorry," she stated, bowing in a polite manner. She should try and get a decent amount of sleep tonight. That, or she could end up running into something a little more dangerous than another human. She stifled a yawn, and continued roaming through the halls. Aonani was around here somewhere, and she needed him. The village below wasn't too far from the home, but Suzume knew that she couldn't exactly go by herself. She wasn't strong like a yokai, and she wasn't ignorant to the dangers of the world outside. Going by herself would be quick, easy, and she wouldn't have to bring Aonani out of his training session with Akihiko, if he was training. A small smile crept along her lips. Why wouldn't he be? He's always training with Akihiko.

With that in mind, she made her way down to their usual training area, the smile growing brighter with each step she took. Once she reached the training area, she paused, and leaned against one of the pillars. She watched on with light awe filling her eyes, watching as Aonani and Akihiko practiced. She, however, was not expecting to meet Aonani's gaze, and winced.

Nani had not let a clear thought form in his head other than to continue moving, to be fluid. That is, until he caught sight of a certain girl's black hair. He couldn't help but switch his focus and knew almost immediately it was a huge mistake when training with Akihiko.

That single moment was more than enough. Akihiko stepped in, swinging his own practice bokken in a punishing arc for the back of Aonani’s knees, collapsing him and sending him into the dirt. Any harder, and he’d have broken the bone—an injury which would have been healed in minutes, due to the fact that the boy was a kitsune. Nevertheless, he didn’t see the point. The humiliation would be sufficient lesson. “Mind your foe, not your audience.

Nani groaned slightly as he rolled onto his back to look up at Akihiko. "So sorry, Akihiko-sama, it won't happen again," Nani manages through his rapid breathing. He was in shape, sure, but anyone would be out of breath and sweating after working with Akihiko. He could feel his face reddening from the embarrassment. He knew Aki was only using it to teach him, and felt no hard feelings, though he did wish it wasn't quite so painful. He knew it could have been worse however and was thankful for that.

See that it does not.[/b]” Akihiko narrowed his eyes for a moment, but in the end he reached down and, with no discernible effort at all, picked the lad up by the back of his collar and set him down on his feet. It was more or less the brusque lord’s equivalent of a hand up. “We’re done for the day. Attend to your charge.” He nodded in Suzume’s direction, indicating that Aonani should take up his duties as her bodyguard for the morning. He himself had plenty else to take care of, after all.

"Don't mind, Otou-san. He's proud of you," Suzume stated after waving towards Akihiko. Once he was gone, she turned her attention back to Aonani and grinned. "I need to go into the village today. I need more silk fabric and a few more other materials. Will you go with me?" she felt the need to ask, though she knew what the answer would be.

Nani bowed slightly to Akihiko as he always did at the end of their lessons. "Thank you Akihiko-sama," Nani stated before grabbing his boken and turning to smile at Suzu. Nani didn't really have to think about his answer. "Of course Suzume. If you wouldn't mind me changing out of training clothes before we go, I can be ready within minutes," Nani states as he walks towards her, steadying his racing heart in an attempt to have his bruises go away. He was nearly positive Suzume hated seeing what the training did to both him and Akihiko, when he got the rare hit in on rare occasions, or his birthday.

Nani rushed to his rooms which were very close to the training area considering he worked as a bodyguard of sorts. He nearly threw his bokken across the room as he dressed in a more suitable dress, green as he loved the color, to be walking around the market area. He grabbed his knives, tucking them out of sight along with a few of his illusion papers. It was a rare occasion he needed to use them, but it was always handy to have. He also made sure he had his wallet. He had been looking for an opportunity to buy more paper and the silk stand was one or two down from a paper vendor, perhaps he could grab some parchment for some work he had wanted to do.

Upon emerging from his rooms, Nani went to Suzume. "I will gladly follow you wherever you might want to go," Nani states, gesturing for Suzume to lead the way though he takes a place beside her as a friend. "Silk fabric and other materials? What are you working on Suzu?" Nani asks curiously as he walks.
