Chloe stared at James as she finished speaking, not quite sure exactly what he would do. Honestly, she wasnβt quite sure what she would do if the tables were turned, but right now was not about ifβs and made up scenarios. Even though Chloe loved being around James, right now it just felt off, forced. James spoke up after he sighed, Chloe just staring at him as he talked, looking at his handsome eyes, and pretty lips moved as she spoke.
At first Chloe was saddened, hearing him talk about how he couldnβt do this anymore, but she completely understood. She would probably feel the same if she left for an extended time and no one cared. I didnβt know where you went, I wanted to come looking for you Jamesβ¦ Chloe thought to herself. She was quickly brought out of her thoughts feeling Jamesβ thumb run across her cheek, this immediately put a smile on her face, making her blush as well. She missed his touch so much and this just sent a warm feeling throughout Chloeβs entire body.
The next thing James said really caught Chloeβs attention, about leaving. Something that only slightly went across her mind, more as a joke than anything, but right now it was a real possibility. Though James was right about one thing, even if his family didnβt care if the left, her family would quickly take notice if she disappeared and cut ties, and if they found out if it was for James, who knows what could happen. They could burn the city down looking for her, or send thugs after him and her, it would practically be betraying the Salant family, her family. Chloe jumped a little as James let go of her face and let his arm down. He mentioned that he would like to bring her but was worried about putting her at risk.
The two sat in silence for a second, Chloe thinking about what she should say, what she could do. Chloe squatted down so she was wear his eyes were, so they could look each other in the eyes, and held both his hands. βJamesβ¦ We can go. I have cash saved up and hidden from jobs that I keep as an emergency outside of my familiesβ accounts. I can get us a car that wonβt be as traceable as one of our family cars. We can get out of this city, and go somewhere, anywhere together.β Chloe said, standing up and letting go of Jamesβ right hand, and putting her hand on his cheek. βIf I stay, I will be in as much danger as if I go. Our familiesβ little war is getting worse and worse every day. Iβm already at risk, you just saw that your family sent someone to my apartment.β Chloe said, frowning a little and looking down at the ground.
βJames Deveraux, there isnβt anyone else in the world Iβd rather run away with than you.β Chloe said after a pause, looking up at James and planting a kiss on his lips. Something she wanted to do since the day he left the trainyard.

"I need to get out of here, even if I'm not affiliated with my family. I promise I'll text you back from now on, okay?" He said with a grin. "And I'll keep you in the loop. Let you know what I decide."

Chloe face started to turn red after James kissed her again. Even though she just kissed him, it still made her feel warm being in his embrace and being close to him. βI promise darling. But I do want to be with you, thereβs something about being with youβ¦ I just, donβt want to lose.β Chloe said, squeezing Jamesβ hand she was holding gently. She nodded in response of him saying he needed to go. He was right, they werenβt in neutral ground and he wasnβt exactly safe right now. A thought popped into Chloeβs head before James left, tugging on his arm one last time. βOh! This might sound clichΓ© and weird, but I feel like we should have some sort of code word for when, I mean if, we do this James. You know, just in case?β Chloe said smiling and shrugging her shoulders.
Before James left, Chloe looked out of the alleyway to make sure it was clear and looked back him nodding that it was all good. As he left, Chloe leaned against the wall and watched him walk out of sight, smile on her face. "I think I love you James Devereaux..." She said under her breathe to herself.

And he trusted her more than ever. He knew she'd do her best to keep him safe. Which meant he had decided that Chloe had to come with him. Now he knew that it would be safe, he couldn't leave her behind. The thought of it felt like a punch to his stomach. He'd stayed in contact with her too, as subtly as he could for fear her family would find the texts. But now it was time. Time to ditch all of this and move on.
He'd driven to a shady gas station on the edge of town, in neutral territory, to meet her. As he got out of his car, he pulled on a baseball cap to cover his face. He went in and got two Cokes and some chips, before sending the text to Chloe.
"Verona is go." His signal to come meet him. He got into his car again, keeping the baseball cap on. He wasn't taking any chances with the CCTV.

Since their confrontation and talk, Chloe had been slowly draining her account, but not enough to raise any suspicion. Whenever she would but anything from a gas station or convenience store, she would pull out 10-20 bucks in cash back. If confronted she could just say she had to buy some extra things or wanted to have some cash on her in case she needed it for the few places around town that only accepted cash. One day her mother did ask about how her account was a couple hundred short than it should be with their recent hauls of merchandise and such, Chloe just made up a story about a new piece of jewelry she was wearing, claiming it was pretty and she couldnβt pass it up. It wasnβt exactly a lie, it was pretty and she did impulse buy it, but it definitely was not that expensive.
Chloe had just walked back into her apartment, returning from a small reconnaissance mission her father had sent her on, she had to keep up the appearance that nothing was wrong, that her mind wasnβt only thinking about leaving town with James. Hell, he might never give the code word and they would never leave town, it was still only a possibility. However her and James had been talking and it seemed it would happen, sooner rather than later actually. Right as Chloe flopped down on her bed her phone buzzed. βUgh, I just want to relax god damnit.β She said as she sighed out loud, before slowly rolling over and seeing it was a text from James, quickly sitting up to read it, a smile creeping across her face as she saw the code word they set up.
Getting up quickly, Chloe flipped her mattress over revealing a layer of numerous different bills wrapped up in rubber bands and labeled with sticky notes saying how much each wad was. She quickly stuffed them into a backpack and then pulled a suitcase out of the closet. Chloe had pre-packed some clothes ready to go, but still had to throw some stuff she had to leave out, along with some extra ammo of course her favorite knifes. As she finished getting her stuff, Chloe grabbed an old lipstick off her dresser and wont on her door a message to her family. Iβm leaving. Sorry and goodbye. Donβt chase me. Before quickly heading downstairs with, luckily the rest of her family was still out and not home.
It didnβt take Chloe long to meet up with James, taking a cheap unmarked truck to the location they had agreed to meet up out of town. She took numerous side streets so it would be hard to track and follow her just to be safe. Plus the vehicle she had drove wasnβt known to her family, a cheap pick-up that she only drove around for emergencies. As Chloe reached the gas station it took her a second to spot and locate James, seeing him waiting in a car around the side of the gas station. Chloe pulled the truck up around the back of the gas station and leaving the keys in it with the windows down, not really caring if it was stolen, actually hoping it would be. She quickly took her suit case and loaded it into Jamesβ car, keeping the backpack with the cash and an extra pistol in the front seat with her.
As Chloe sat down in the passenger seat, she quickly leaned over grabbing Jamesβ face and kissing him. βIβm ready babyβ¦β She said before leaning back into her seat and fastening her seatbelt and taking a look around.
