Introduction

1x1 between Myself and Silver

Image
Edmonton, Alberta. The city of Champions. Towering skyscrapers, gorgeous urban homes and rural farm lands spanning its surroundings. Lush parks and greenery bring an attractive scenery that pleases even the most hateful of critics.

Yet for these two, cubical bound employees, Edmonton is more like a steel cage. It’s the same routine day in and day out and these two roommates are in need of a break. So when their Business Firm holds a raffle for employee’s the two are overjoyed at the grand prize. Two tickets to a weeklong trip to Hawaii, all expanses paid. They did everything they could to win, putting their names into the bucket every hour of their eight hour shift. Though they didn’t have every much hope, considering the fact that over a thousand people work alongside them. What were the chances that two Temp’s would get this dream vacation? Well the universe must be on their side cause that’s just what happens.

The next day they were packed up and on their way to Hawaii. Their plane docked off at Honolulu Airport and they were drove to the three star hotel, The Imperial Hawaii Hotel. Their room was medium sized with two queen sized beds draped in island blue and ivory sheets, a white painted wood nightstand standing in between. Two white dressers stood against the opposite wall with a fair sized plasma TV hooked on to the blue painted surface. A small kitchenette and dining table sat by a patio door, which showed the amazing view they had of the ocean.

They spent their first three days partying and exploring, but on their fourth night they went to a local party and got pretty drunk. The next morning though they’re going to have a lot more to deal with then a bad hangover.

Our plot takes place the morning after. Our two characters wake up to a nasty hangover and an island full of feral, undead beasts. While these two were on vacation the World Government launched a silent bomb filled with a special manmade organism, which was meant to help repair the ozone layer. Well it did its job but there were side effects. As the organism floated back down to the surface they latched onto everything, including people. The organism then became a form of fungus that coated people from the inside out. It effected 75% of the human population, making them into feral beasts. How will our characters survive in new, unknown streets while trying to get back home to Canada?

The blurry vision of blue and white surrounded Haven as she slowly lifted her head and opened her eyes. She groaned softly as her head throbbed and throat burned. She needed water. Haven slowly started to lifted her body out of bed, the silky sheets annoyed her the fabric making her overly sensitive skin itch. She felt uncomfortable, irritated, sweaty and hungover. As her vision cleared she glanced over to the other bed, seeing a snoring Jenga starfished under the sheets. Stretching her stiff limbs Haven grabbed a pillow and flung it at Jenga.

"Hey do you want to go out for breakfast or room service?" Haven questioned, her voice gruff and throat burned. Walking over to the small kitchenette Haven grabbed a glass and turned on the sink, filling the cup and taking a big gulp. The cool liquid soothed her throat and made her rather unpleasant mood slightly better.

"I'm going to go take a shower" Haven told a still half sleeping Jenga before grabbing some clothes from her bag and going into the ivory bathroom. Haven quickly did her business and brushed her teeth before turning on the shower, keeping the water cool to get rid of the layer of sweat and booze from the night before. She stripped quickly then jumped into the shower, the cool water hitting her heated skin made her shiver. She quickly showered then hoped out, dressing in a pair of white jean shorts and a mint green crop top. Haven quickly braided her hair then went back into the main room.

"So I'm thinking maybe we could go to that cute coffee shop we saw yesterday. I could really use some caffeine"

Jenga was sleeping nicely, until she felt something heavy, but oddly soft, smack into her lower back. She grunted, and lifted her head from the drool covered pillow. She acknowledged that someone was talking, but their voice was muffled and far away to her. Instead the most she could hear was her heart beat, which was giving her a killer head ache. Well that and the fact that she drank an entire bottle of raspberry vodka, mixed with other drinks, all by herself last night.
Jenga groaned, rolling over onto the edge of her bed, her eyes closed. The light coming from the windows wasn't helping her head ache. Blindly flailing around, she tried to find her sunglasses on the bed side table. She always came prepared when she knew she was going to be drinking heavy amounts of alcohol. Finally finding the reflector aviators, she sloppily slipped them onto her face before just lying there, trying to will her eyes to open. By the time her current hotel room mate, Haven, was out of the shower Jenga had grumpily fallen into the floor while trying to reach for a bottle of water she found on the floor. She was just kinda laying there, half on the floor half in the bed.
When Haven asked if she wanted to go to the coffee shop Jenga looked at her from the floor, the sunglasses all wonky on her face. "I think I can make it... But first, a shower," Jenga said, her Brazilian accent exceptionally prominent, seeing as it always got that way when she was hung over, because she didn't feel like bothering to pronounce her words correctly so others could understand. Dragging herself out of the bed fully, she sighed and laid on the floor for a few extra seconds before dragging herself up, using the bed sheets as a 'rope'. When she was up and able to shuffle into the bathroom, she instantly stripped down and turned on the water. It didn't take her long to take an ice cold shower, and when she was out and dressed in some jeans, a crop top that showed about 3 inches of her stomach unless she kept pulling it down, and a bunch of rings and a pendant neckless, that didn't go with her outfit at all and looked rather old and well worn. With her sunglasses still on she just let her hair dry however it wanted, letting it just messily fall into her face as she bent down and grabbed her favorite pare of boots from her luggage.
"Okay, I'm ready," Jenga said with a long sigh, still slightly aching. Grabbing her key card she walked out of the room, and into the wide hotel hallway. Going downstairs she made small talk with Haven, but didn't say to much, her jaw stiff from her clenching it in her sleep. When they rode the elevator and walked into the lobby, Jenga instantly stopped in her tracks. People were screaming and sprinting around the massive marble lobby. There were a lot of people who were laying on the ground, but after a violent seizure they were back up again, but... Different. Their eyes had suddenly become dark and blood shot, and no matter what their wounds were, they didn't seem to care about them. It wasn't until a man got tackled right in front of Jenga that she realized the wounded people weren't... People. Her eyes went wide as the man shrieked in pain and fear as the monster on top of him ripped and tore at him. Jenga looked back to Haven, and mumbled, "What the fuck..."

After grabbing her purse and slipping on a pair of white ballet flats Haven followed Jenga out the door, making sure to grab her key card on the way out. They entered the elevator and rode it down to the main lobby. The moment the doors opened Haven's eyes widened in terror at the hell that's broken loose. Dozens of screaming, bloodied people were running around the lobby, one blood soaked man pounced on another right in front of the elevator. In a matter of seconds Haven had pressed the button for their room floor and the doors started closing again. The last thing they saw as the doors closed was the bloodied man digging his teeth into the shoulder of the other.

"What the fuck indeed. That was real right? Not just a hungover delusion?" Haven questioned slightly panicked, not really expecting an answer. She knew it was real just because of the simple fact that the moment she saw that death scene her hangover had completely vanished. As they rode the elevator back up Haven tried to keep her cool, but she couldn't help the flinch she made as the elevator pinged and the doors opened. After checking the long hallway the girls quickly walked back to their room, Haven using the keycard to quickly open it and they ran in. Haven made sure to lock the door, then for added precaution she moved the closets dresser in front of the door. With a sigh she leaned against the dresser then looked at Jenga.

"Okay.....what do we do?"

Jenga started shaking, her jaw was clenched and her fingers tapped on her quivering arm as she crossed them. When they got to the hotel room, She instantly went to the window, and looked out. They were 15 stories up, and none of them looked out the window that morning, but now that she looked she could see multiple bodies on the ground, and smears of blood where the bodies use to be. It all was so small, it looked like a morbid toy set. When she looked back, Haven had barricaded the door, and had asked her what their plan was. Jenga rubbed her face, still trying to figure out what the hell was going on. "I-I don't know," Jenga mumbled, pacing back and forth. There was a loud crash a few doors down, which caused Jenga to jump. She sucked in her breath, and looked at her coworker, eyes full of fear and panic.
"Should we hang out here until we run out of food? We don't have an adjoining room, no one can get in or out, and we have enough food to last us a few days. Maybe we could ride this thing out?... I don't know, if this is like the movies then there's no way we'll survive the night," Jenga picked up her pacing, and she started to bite her nails. There was another crash down the hallway, this one closer. Jenga looked at the door, frowned, and went over and pushed a chair against the dresser. "Hopefully that'll do some good," She mumbled to herself.

Haven tried to take calming breaths, but each inhale was as shaky as the next exhale. She didn't know what to do but their only two options were to One, brave the crazy streets were ramped crowds run amuck or barricade themselves in their hotel room until they run out of food. But lets not forget about the lobby filled with the undead and the crashing noises just a few doors down the hall.

Taking in another shaky breath Haven knew the better option out of the two was to stay. If they barricaded the door securely they could wait out however long their food lasts. They had water and power for now, which should still last a while without maintenance. Maybe once things outside start to quiet down they could took for supply and weapons round the hotel, working their way through each floor until they got to the lobby. There was bound to be plenty of supplies in the other rooms. Right?

The girls just stood their in silence for almost an hour, just listening and thinking. Once Haven was sure of her plan she gestured Jenga towards her. The Brazilian woman neared her and Haven spoke in a hushed voice.

"I think we should just stay here for a few days, let everything settle outside. We will just have to stay quiet so nothing knows we are up here. Start helping me move all the furniture in front of the door. We can move the mattress onto the floor and use the bed frames. Make sure to try and pack all your stuff in one bag that way we won't have so much luggage to carry. Also check everywhere in this place for a weapon of sorts. I'm thinking once everything calms down we can barricade the stairs in the hallway off and start looking for any open rooms on our floor and if we can't find any we move on to the next floor. I'm just hoping most of the vacationers here were down in the lobby and that some were dumb enough to leave their rooms open. I know its highly unlikely but we have to start somewhere right?"

With a heavy sigh Haven finished telling Jenga her plan. The woman more or less agreed with Haven because not to long after they were moving all the furniture in front of the door. Haven's nerves spiked though as they tried to move the bed frame, which was heavier then they thought. Thank goodness it didn't make alot of noise because of the carpeted floors but it still made some noise. With one last grunt they had everything in place, making it almost impossible for anything to get in.

And its going to be tough work getting out later on.

A loud noise outside the patio door made Haven jump in fright but her nerves calmed as she knew what it was. Black clouds were rolling in from the west, lightning and thunder following its trail. Large beads of rain started pelting against the glass and you could hear the harsh winds. Haven was kind of relieved, storms always seeming to have a calming effect over her and the thought that the loud thunder would cover any noises they accidental made lessened her panic.

"Best try to charge your phone now before the power goes out because of the storm. We should use the flashlights on them rather then the room light, just in case those things are attracted to light" Haven softly said to Jenga before plugging in her phone. Haven then started working on her packing, moving her things into her duffel bag. She made sure to pack clothes that covered most of her body, some form of protection. She also packed her bathroom supplies and a few water bottles, sports bars, crackers and cookies from the mini fridge. She also grabbed to mickey's of vodka and stuffed them in her bag, knowing she could use them for medical reasons.

OOC: Okay so in your next post you can time skip a few days forward in you want. To where everything kinda calms down. Or I can in my next post. Its up to you :)

OOC: I can do it, I don't mind! I've already got some stuff planned out for what can happen as they go down to the lobby. Also I'm gonna have Jenga do something that might not actually be possible? But oh well.

Jenga helped Haven move everything, muscles she hadn't used in forever straining. Once the entire hallway was filled with junk to keep everyone out, and Haven was relaxing, somewhat, from the rain, Jenga sat on her bed with her key card, a bobby pin, and a cup of warm water. She sat there, focusing on nothing but that key card while Haven packed up her bag. She started to soak the corner of the card in water. It was making it so the surprisingly crappy key cards layers were starting to separate. Grinning to herself, Jenga took off the little balls on the end of the bobby pin that protect your head from getting scratched. Seeing as she didn't have a knife, it would be tricky, but the sharpish corner of the bobby pin should help her be able to peal the layers back. She started to do so, very slowly and with many aggravated glares at the card. Once she managed to get down to the magnetic strip, she grabbed her phone and started to try and find a specific camera app. She glanced up, seeing that Haven was now looking at her. Jengas lips pursed as she looked back down at her phone, being slightly reluctant to admit that she knew how to make a master key card. Her past was weird.
Once she finally finished downloading the specific app, she put her phone up to the magnetic strip, and took a picture. There was a soft buzzing sound that came from the card that only lasted for a few seconds. Jenga sighed, and put her phone away, looking up to Haven. "I think I just made a master card, so we can get into other rooms? It might not work on some doors, or it might not work at all, I don't know... We can test it when we need to," Jenga explained, putting the card back together, using some clear nail polish as a sealant. She put the card on the floor, and cleaned up everything before plugging her phone in, and going into her bed. The banging had stopped, but the thunder made her jump every so often. She pursed her lips and closed her eyes, trying to fall asleep.

Food was running low, that was very obvious. What was also obvious, is that Jengas master card only worked on a select few doors. There were some doors that had been flung open and never shut properly, so they were unlocked, and there were some doors that the key card refused to open. Towards the end of their unknowingly last day at the hotel, the card completely gave up. Jenga cussed under her breath as she tried to put it into the card-reader multiple times, each time red lights flashed, as if to taunt her. Out of frustration Jenga chucked the card down the hallway, and prowled back to the room. Haven was standing watch at the door, keeping it open so that Jenga to run in just incase anything went south. They had been slowly going to the other rooms, depleting their food sources and using their furniture to block the elevator, as well as the stair case. There was no one else on their floor, thankfully.
Another annoying thing was that the power was still on. Yes, it was good because it meant running hot water and the lights still worked, but it also meant that Jenga could never get into the other locked rooms, because their locks were still running. Jenga sighed as she went back into the room, not saying anything to Haven, too annoyed. She went straight to the balcony, which she walked out onto. It was getting dark out, so it was hard to see, but there were hoards of infected that got worse day by day. It made Jenga anxious, and worry that when they do have to leave, they won't be able to. Sighing she went back into the room. "We can't stay here forever," She mumbled to Haven, sitting down on her bed. She looked over to her bag, which she packed the first day. She liked to call it her "Oh shit" bag, because that's what she would be saying as she grabbed it in a hurry as she ran away from zombies.
A few hours passed, and Jenga had started to doze off in her bed, when there was suddenly an extremely loud bang on the other side of their door. Jenga bolted up at the sound, and looked at the door. Their barricade had become very lax the last few days, the only things there were the dresser and a bunch of chairs, because it was getting too hard to move the bed frames. There was another loud bang that sent Jenga bolting out of her bed. She grabbed the shaft of what use to be a floor lamp. She had made this a spear-like weapon the first few days, to make herself feel safe. She grabbed her bag, knowing that there was no way they could stay in this room for any longer. She looked to Haven. "Well shit," She mumbled under her breath.

OOC: I meant to take them all the way to the lobby, but I had to cut it short because we're going to the beach today, and I needa get ready. Sorry, if you want me to edit it and put more just PM me xD.

Haven jumped in fright at the second banging on their door. How had something gotten up here? They had blocked off all entrances.....what does it matter? Its already here and now they have to deal with it. Shit what were they suppose to do? If they moved the furniture and opened the door it would storm in and one of them was bound to get hurt. So they can't use the frontal attack, but what about an attack from behind?

"I need to borrow this" Haven said as she grabbed Jenga's makeshift weapon, not caring if she was rude and not waiting for a reply. Walking over to the patio door Haven opened it and stepped onto the small balcony, the harsh winds from the continuing storm whipped her braid around violently. Its been days and the rain hasn't stopped, making the balcony slippery and it difficult to see outside. Looking to her right Haven took note of the atleast 5 foot spacing into between the two balcony's. If they were going to get behind whatever was outside their door she needed to get into the neighboring room. The loud winds should cover any noise she makes but Haven's nerves were going haywire.

Would she be able to make it? Its quite a jump and with the rain and wind making it even harder, she had a very slim chance. But its a chance she'll have to take. Taking a big, nervous breath Haven through the lamp over to the other balcony. Their only weapon barely made it, the wind almost blowing it away. Her hands started to shake as she maneuvered herself so she was outside the railing. Her hands were slippery with rain water and it was getting difficult to hold on to the railing.

She started counting to ten and the moment she reached the last number Haven jumped. A scream got logged in her throat as her outreached hands slipped off the top bar of the railing. Quickly grabbing onto the vertical bars Haven told herself not to look down as she hazardously dangled in the air, winds hitting her, urging her to fall to her doom. Taking a deep breath Haven used all her upper body muscle to slowly lift herself up, inching her way towards the top of the railing. The moment she could get some footing Haven pushed herself over the railing and landing on her back. Her heartbeat was rapid, Haven felt like she was going to have a heartache as her body shook with fear and adrenaline. She made it. She doesn't know how but she did.

On shaky legs Haven slowly stood up and grabbed the lamp post, making her way to the dark room. They had scavenged this room already and had left the door open. Now that she was closer she could clearly hear snarls of the monster banging on their door. Her hands still shook, her body seemingly rejecting the idea of moving but she pushed herself towards the door. Haven moved quietly as she moved towards the door, only stopping to grab a left behind high heeled shoe off the floor. Haven was so close now, her stomach had knots and she felt like she was going to vomit she was so nervous. Holding her breath she threw the shoe down the hallway to the right, away from their door. The creature suddenly blotted towards the noise, not seeing her in the shadowed room. It snarled and hissed and Haven knew she had to move quickly. Rushing out of the room she got up behind the monster, pointed side of the lamp post raised. The creature had just turned towards her when Haven bashed the lamp into its head. The sickening sound of breaking bone made her stomach twist even more. The creature fell backwards, hissing and snarling, flailing its limbs around crazily. Before it had a moment to get up Haven slammed the lamp down on its face again. And repeated her attack until the thing finally stopped moving and darkened blood and brain goo coated everything around them. Haven was crying now, thick tears streaming down her blood coated face as her emotions finally caught up to her.

She had just killed someone. She could have died! "Fuck! I'm so freaking stupid" she cried out before her knees buckled and she vomited.

OOC: Sweet! I'm pretty sure I'm going to be doing nothing be laying around all day. Just a heads up, as well, I start my job Tuesday and they will most likely work me nights. I don't think it should effect this, but just incase x3.

Jenga felt alone in the room without Haven, and it freaked her out. She was there when Haven almost fell 15 stories, and seeing her now probably only friend almost fall to her death didn't help with her nerves. She stood there, staring at the door after she went back inside, and stood there when she heard the banging stop. There was a loud cracking sound a few seconds after, and then pure silence in the room. Jenga rushed over to the door, and started to throw everything aside. She still had her backpack on, so she grabbed Havens, hoping she had everything she needed in it.
Shoving the dresser out of the way of the door, Jenga rushed out, but stopped seeing Haven on the ground. Her lips pursed seeing the dead guy next to her. She glanced around the hallway really quickly before slowly walking over to Haven, her movements cautious. "Haven?..." Jenga whispered when she was close enough. She slowly knelt down next to the shaking girl. She was soaked in blood, and there was what seemed to be vomit on her chin. Jenga rustled around in her bag quickly, grabbing a wash cloth she forgot was in there, and started to wipe Havens face off. "Haven it's okay," Jenga looked down to the dead man, "Come on, let's go. There's no use crying, he was dead before you hit him... Haven come on."
She reached over and picked up the lamp post, and hooked her arm into Havens, lifting up as she slowly stood. There was banging a few doors down, causing Jenga to jump. She hurried over to the stair case, and threw everything out of the way, checking around to make sure nothing was coming after Haven or her. Once everything was remotely out of the way, Jenga ran over to Haven, grabbed the bags, as well as Havens shaking hand, and hurried into the stairs. There was no way to re-block the door, so Jenga just hurried downstairs, tugging Haven along. When they burst into the lobby Jenga slid to a stop. There was a group, it looked like two family's, were sprinting through the lobby as well, about 5 zombies on their tail. Jenga looked back at Haven, who seemed like she was coming back to reality, seeing as she wasn't crying as hard. "Ready to run for your life?" Jenga asked. When Haven nodded, Jenga looked around before bursting into a run. The family was distracting most of the zombies, but a few were still standing there, most of them had wounded legs, or none at all. Jenga sprinted past everything, and shoved herself through the door, turning around to check and make sure Haven was still behind her. The rain slammed into her before she was even out of the doors, and the cold of it made her steps falter as she gasped in surprise. She squinted past the grey blanket, and continued to run, the family, missing a few people, right next to her. They all exchanged glances, but made no move to make the others go away. "Everyone get into the van!" one of the dads yelled, his face flinching when he noticed that not everyone was with them as well. "I'll be back, we're missing a few!" He said, emotion rising in his voice. "No, sir, they're most likely not-" Jenga started, but the man was already running. She looked to the other father, who was looking at her. He shrugged, and beckoned her and Haven into the van.

Haven grabbed her bag from Jenga and followed the Brazilian woman as they ran from the lobby. She grasped the duffel tightly afraid of losing it. She had gotten over her crying, the momentary over flow of emotions she had made her feel pitiful. She knew that monster was already dead before she killed it but it still struck a cord. It was her life's passion to save people, that's why she wanted to be a doctor.

Taking in a deep calming breath Haven finally took note of her surroundings and the harsh winds of the storm stinging her skin. She watched one of the men they seen in the lobby run back into the hotel, the other man beckoning Jenga and Haven towards his van. The man's family looked around anxiously, one of the older woman holding her toddler tightly to her chest. This may be a stupid decision but she felt sorry for these families.

"Hey I'm going to go stop that idiot. Get in the van. If we aren't back in 5 minutes, leave" Haven told Jenga. Her voice was strong but she felt anything but as she gave Jenga her bag and rushed after the man that ran back into the hotel. He had just disappeared into the lobby and Haven was right on his tail. The moment she entered the lobby she saw the man, who was frantically looking around as monster's quickly neared him. The nearest creature snarled and swiftly grabbed the man's arm. The man struggled against the monster who was pulling the man's arm towards its mouth. More of the undead neared. Running towards the monster Haven quickly took its head between her hands and twisted its neck. Its body collapsed after the sound of its neck breaking echoed in Haven's ears.

"Come on we have to get out of here" Haven snarled at the man, grabbing his arm.

"No...my son.." her began but Haven cut him off.

"Is most likely dead and if we don't leave now we'll be joining him" Haven snapped, dragging the reluctant man behind her. Turning towards the front door, Haven narrowly missed the jaws of a nearby undead. In the short time she had entered the creature's had gathered behind her blocking the front door. Haven kicked out the knees of the nearest monster and cursed.

"Come on" she growled. Running towards the dining area the two survivor's dodged and weaved around tables, chairs and the undead. They entered the kitchen through swinging door's and Haven quickly closed the latched, locking the door.

"That won't hold for long. Find a back door" she ordered the unnamed man, who nodded frantically. As they made their way through the kitchen Haven saw a rather large knife on the counter top and grabbed it. The knife felt natural in her hands as she gripped the hilt tightly.

"Quick over here" the man gestured. Haven ran towards him just as the locked door was knocked open, a horde of undead running towards them. "Shit" Haven cursed as she followed the man out a back door. They ran around the hotel, the van coming into view. Jenga held the vehicle door open and Haven and the man jumped in. Before the door's even closed the vehicle lurched forward and away from the hotel.

Jenga looked back at Haven as she was running, sheer disbelief on her face as she watched her coworker risking her life for an emotional idiot. Annoyance flared up into her face as she looked to the other father, who was giving her a deer-in-the-headlights look. She growled for him to get it, and looked at the driver, a teenage boy. "I swear if you drive off without her I will kill you, and then let the zombies have you," She growled, pointing a finger. "But the lady said drive off if she didn't come back soon!" One of the wives said. "I don't care what she said! She's my only friend now, and I am not leaving her behind!" Jenga snipped.
It felt like 30 minutes before Jenga saw Haven and the man running out from another door. Relief washed over her shivering body as she stood with the door open. She rushed them into the car before leaping in herself. When the car lurched forward she slammed the door shut, breathing heavily as she looked to Haven. "Is everyone okay?" She asked, pushing wet strands of hair out of her face. Everyone nodded, all of them looking like wet kicked puppies. With her heart beat going down, Jenga started to realize how rude and frantic she must of seemed to the family's. "Sorry... For yelling, and stuff... I got scared," She mumbled to one of the fathers. He gave her a small smile, and a nod, understanding.

They had ben driving for at least an hour before they started to have problems with cars in the road, as well as zombies. They had pulled onto the highway, and instantly there was a car jam. Thousands of cars all blocked the road, and a few zombies that were the only ones there, seemingly, started to limp towards the van. Jenga glanced over to Haven with a frown, seeing that there was almost absolutely no way to go around the cars. "Our van can hardly handle unpathed driveways, no way it can handle a muddy, unkempt highway median," The teenager said to the girls. Jenga groaned, and looked out the window. The zombies were getting closer, all of them snarling and gurgling god knows what. "So we're taking this by foot, then?" Jenga mumbled, more to herself then anyone else. She grabbed her bag, and slung it over her shoulder, so the strap was across her chest. She then grabbed her lamp post like it was a spear, making sure the sharp end could pierce skin and bone. With a couple deep breaths, and making sure everyone else was ready, she opened her door and rushed out. Instantly she was assaulted with wind and stinging rain as she ran out, going straight for one of the dead and swinging her spear, one handed. She didn't bother killing it, the family's and them needed to not waist any time out in the open. She jogged for the side of the highway, which dropped steeply down into some woods. She looked back to see everyone following her, but by the time she noticed the sprinting zombie it was already too late. It tackled one of the children, who had gotten out of the van last. Jenga froze, her eyes going wide as the child screamed.
The teen who was driving, and right behind her, turned around to go and help the kid, but she grabbed his shirt collar and threw him over the side of the rail guard, yelling, "It's too late for them!" She looked back to see one of the fathers had gone to the child's aid, only to get tackled by at least 3 more zombies. A mother and her toddler were grabbed as well, and Jenga was almost tackled, if she hadn't looked to her side. A zombie ran straight at her, causing her to flinch, her arms coming up to protect her face. The spear, still in her hand, went right between her in the zombie, impaling its head onto the end. The zombie instantly went limp. Eyes still wide, Jenga struggled to get the man off the end of her pole, but with a foot smashed into its lower head the spear jolted free. Quickly she ushered a mother and Haven over the rail guard and down into the woods, glancing back one more time to see a hoard of zombies after them. Her fear spiking, Jenga leapt over the railing, falling about 5 feet before landing on the sloping hill that went into the woods. She skidded and rolled to a stop, quickly getting up and looking around. There was only four of them now, a mother, the teenage boy, Haven and herself. All of them looked at one another before hurriedly running into the woods.

Running through unfamiliar terrain was never good. Haven had explored her fair share of forests in her youth but never had she explored a jungle. Her sense of direction felt off and the ongoing storm and herd of monsters right on their tail gave Haven no time to get a feeling for her surrounds. So with no destination in mind the group just ran, dodging and weaving through the thick undergrowth. Haven quickly glanced around, taking note that Jenga ran beside her while the others of their small group spanned out, loosing sight of each other in brief moments.

The mixture of growls and snarls was right behind them, sounding even louder then the constant thunder. Rain pelted Haven even through the canopy, making it even more difficult to see. A sudden yelp escaped Haven as her foot slipped, her legs diving away as she fell. Without thinking she grabbed onto Jenga, taking her down with her.

Breaking through the bushes the two tumbled before falling down a sudden incline. They rolled down the steep, muddy slope before crashing into the rapid river below. The river swept them away, pulling them away from the massive group of zombies and the other two survivors.

A sense of pure dread burned in Haven's chest as she briefly got above the water before being pulled down again. The river was rough as her body was bashed against rocks and fallen, submerged logs.

"Jenga!" Haven screamed while trying to keep her head above water. Her backpack weighed her down and another scream left Haven as she was bashed against of large boulder. Clinging to it with all her might Haven tried to pull herself up onto the large rock. Once her upper torso was out of the water she scouted the area with blurred vision.

"Jen...." she began but cut herself short as she saw a unmoving Jenga laying on a nearby shore. Even from here Haven could she a large, bleeding gash on her friends arms.

Weakly Haven maneuvered her whole body onto the rock. She wasn't to far away from land so with all her strength she jumped. Landing roughly on the rock covered shore Haven grunted in pain but pushed herself forward. Crawling over to Jenga, Haven checked to make sure she was still breathing and sighed in relief when she felt air leave her friends lips.

Jenga was still out cold and Haven felt as if she herself was going to pass out. But they couldn't stay out in the open. Haven slowly stood, her legs wobbling as they refused her request to move. Pushing herself as far as she could go, Haven dragged Jenga's unconscious body towards a cluster of large rocks. The boulder's were packed tightly together but they was a small gap underneath one that looked like a small, abandoned animal den. Pushing Jenga into the den Haven then went and grabbed some drift wood and large leaves before crawling into the den herself. She then covered the entry so they could remain unseen to anything outside.

Once Haven finished, all her energy disappeared and she fell unconscious.

Hey sorry about the super long wait.

Hey! :D
Long time no see! I'm glad you came back, but I figured you were busy with work and the move you mentioned a while ago x3.

Jenga was almost completely out of breath as they ran through the forest. Her entire body was on hyper drive, save for her lungs. The woods were crazy, and you couldn't even see where you were stepping. As they ran, Jenga heard a yell, and before she knew it she was falling down a steep hill. Within seconds a sharp rock sliced open her left forearm, and she was in freezing cold rapids. In shock her body instantly shut down, causing her to pass out. When she woke up it was dark, damp, and extremely humid. Jenga groaned, her arm, head, and basically entire body throbbing. She started to sit up, noting she was in a cave of some sort with the entrance blocked off with foliage and drift wood. The next thing she noticed was Haven, who was on the opposite side of the den passed out.

"Oh shit!" Jenga exclaimed, hurrying forward over to her friend. She shook Haven, fear engulfing her. Luckily she heard a small groan from Haven that made her freeze before bending down and putting a ear to her chest. Haven had a fast, but regular heart beat. Jenga let out an exasperated sigh, leaning back on her but and looking up at the roof of the den, which was only a few inches from her face. She took a good look at her body. She was bruised almost everywhere, her legs felt like jelly due to running so much all in one night, and her forearm was giving her hell. It burned, and Jenga knew it was deep just by looking at it. Luckily, though, it seemed that the dive into the river cleaned it out, because so far it didn't look like any infection had set in. Jenga moved so she was against the den wall, resting her head on it as she closed her eyes, wishing this entire thing was just a dream.

Haven groaned in pain as she was slightly pushed. She easily heard someone sigh, it being the only noise in the small den. Slowly opening her eyes Haven grunted in pain as she tried to move. She had taken a beating from those rapids. Her body ached with every bruise and her thigh stung in what was most likely a gash.

"Hey....you okay?" Haven questioned as she spotted Jenga, thankfully awake. Slowly Haven maneuvered herself as she pulled off her backpack. Pulling out a soaked tshirt and a small bottle of mouthwash fom her bathroom kit. Using what little strength she had Haven torn the tshirt into strips.

"Give me your arm" she ordered Jenga, who slowly moved her arm to give to Haven. Haven inspected the wound, thanking god it wasn't deep enough to effect anything. Using the mouthwash Haven poured it onto the wound, disinfecting it before using the damp strips of tshirt to wrap up the wound.

"That will have to do for now, atleast until we find a needle and some thread or a first aid kit" Haven told Jenga before inspecting her own wound. Haven repeated her treatment of her own wound.

"So what do you want to do now?.....This is a freaking nightmare"

Jenga looked over to Haven when she started to move around, giving her a tired smile. There was obvious worry in her eyes, noticing that Haven was having a hard time moving. When she told her to give her arm, she obeyed, clenching her teeth and looking away. The burning was intense, but it went away within a few seconds. Looking at her bandaged arm she shuttered knowing the pain she's going to have to go through to stitch it up, whenever they get the chance.

Jenga watched as Haven tended to her own wounds, a pitying but thoughtful look on her face. She could of left Jenga on the edge of the river, but instead she dragged her into a old den, and even tended to her wounds first, instead of cleaning her leg and not bothering to help Jenga at all. "So what do you want to do?" Haven asked, mumbling that the situation they were in was a nightmare. Jenga scoffed a bit at the last comment, nodding in agreement. "I have absolutely no idea," Jenga mumbled, looking to the opening of the den. "We can't go back onto the highway... But we could walk along side it, keeping a safe distance, until we reach the city or something?" Jenga shrugged, not sure what to do. It was true, they needed to get to some place to stock up and finish cleaning their wounds, but at the same time there was no doubt in her mind that the city was one of the worst places to go.

"What if we followed the river?" Jenga looked back over to Haven. "Isn't there that weird survivalist guy, Bear Grills? He's always telling people to follow rivers, you'll always reach civilization... Maybe we can find some small town, or a remote house?" Jenga knew it was a long shot, but she had to keep hope. Getting up, her body cracked and popped in protest, but she continued out of the den, pushing the wood and leaves out of the way. Everything was still drenched, and there was branches and logs strewn everywhere. Jenga looked around in awe, being careful not to put any weight on her bad arm as she army crawled out of the den. She looked around, making sure nothing was going to pop out and attack her. Turning around, Jenga stuck her head back into the den. "Hey, come out and see this," She said, sticking her arm into the den, giving a helping hand to Haven.

Pulling the girl out she looked back towards the river, which was swelling with water, and rushing past them at great speeds. She still has no idea how her and Haven managed to get out of it alive. She looked around for her lamp pole, but as expected, found nothing. "Damn, now we have nothing to defend ourselves with," Jenga mumbled, running a hand through her tangled hair. She looked back at her coworker, making sure she was okay. "Think you can walk on that leg? I could help you walk if you need it," Jenga offered.

Haven groaned in pain as Jenga helped her out of the cave, clutching her backpack tightly in her hand. Glancing around Haven felt a small spark of happiness light up in her chest. The storm had finally ended, leaving behind high rivers, muddy grounds and glistening tree tops. From the position of the sun Haven could tell it was early morning, she guessed around 5am. She heard Jenga mention that they were defenseless. Opening her backpack Haven relieved the large kitchen knife she had grabbed from the hotel. She had put it in her backpack when they were in the van.

"We can find a few thick branches and I can sharpen the ends to make spears, it won't be much but it will be something, I agree with following the river. There are many small fishing towns here, so we should stumble upon one sooner or later" Haven replied as she started limping towards the trees, glancing around for branches. She heard Jenga ask about her leg, making Haven turn her head towards her.

"Its still bleeding but nothings broken, it hurts to put pressure on it but I should make it" Haven answered, grimacing slightly as she leaned on her wounded leg. Sighing to herself Haven and Jenga spent a good hour searching for branches and sharpening them. Once they had a couple and they rested for a bit, the girls started there journey. Walking the way the water followed they made sure to stay a good distance from the river, so they wouldn't fall in again but to also stay hidden in the tree line.

-------- 5 hours later ---------

"I need to stop" Haven wheezed as she sat down on a nearby rock. Her leg was burning, the pain almost unbearable. Blood had soaked the tshirt bandage and her leg felt like it was on fire. They had walked for what seemed like forever.

A town had come into sight able ten minutes ago and the girls were slowly making there way over. But Haven had to stop.

"Just give me a few minutes"

Hey, yeah I'm sorry I haven't posted in so long. Busy life equals no time for posting lol.

Jenga looked over to Haven, frowning. She walked over to her and sat down, looking at her leg. "It looks pretty bad," She mumbled, looking over to the river. 'Maybe some cold water will help her?' Jenga though, standing up and rummaging through her back pack. She had a small container that held some make up brushes. Dumping the brushes back into her pack she went over to the river, carefully filling up the container with water. She went back over to Haven, kneeling down and carefully uncovering it. She frowned seeing how bloody and irritated it was. Grabbing her cup of water she slowly poured it onto the gash. It still looked pretty bad, and there was still blood that was pouring from it. Jenga frowned again, grabbing the bloody bandages and washing them out in the river. She glanced over to the town that was only a few minutes walk away. Turning around she rebadged Havens leg.

"Look... You stay here in rest, I'm going to go see if I can't find someone or something to help," Jenga said, standing up and grabbing one of the makeshift spears from the ground. "I'll be back," She said, not giving Haven much time to protest, already walking away. The walk was short, as she jogged down the river bank, and up a sidewalk that looked like it lead to the town. Going through the tamed jungle she cautiously exited the path, looking for any human or zombie. So far the town was completely empty. Moving onto the streets she noticed that there was a military Humvee broken down in the middle of the rode. Confused, Jenga continued to walk, trying a house door here and there. Most of them didn't open, and the few that did were empty of anything useful. Jenga huffed and moved down the street, stopping at a drug store, its windows broken. She carefully searched the store, finding things like pads and fish oil pills. Moving farther back she got into the more medical stuff, finding things like tiny round bandaids, and wart removing bandaids.

It took her a moment to realize that there was a medical kit hidden underneath a fallen shelf. Quickly grabbing it she ripped it open. There was bandages, alcohol wipes, scissors that looked like they were for cutting fabric, and a few gaze pads. Grinning at her find she put the box in her bag and continued on through the store. She was still looking for thread and needles, as well as pain killers, but what she had wasn't bad. Of course Jenga found no sewing kit, but she did find some pain killer ointment that she could give to Haven. Moving out of the store Jenga continued to walk, noticing that the town looked relatively clean. There was no walking dead, or dead at all for that matter... It was as if the town was never touched, save for a few raided houses. Jenga shrugged it off, figuring the virus hadn't reached the village, but the people still left anyways. Going into another house, she opened the door and stepped in, freezing when she heard a rope snap. Here eyes went wide as she looked down, her foot right in the middle of a loop of rope.

Instantly it tightened, wrenching her leg out fro under her, causing her to fall back, hitting her head on the floor. The rope ripped Jenga across the front room and up into the air, the hit dazing her as she looked around, struggling to reach her spear, which she dropped when she was pulled up. "Fuck," Jenga growled, unable to grab the wooden pole. There were foot steps, and quickly the spear was kicked away from her hands, and someone else ripped off her back pack. "Lookey here boys!" A feminine voice said with a touch of laughter. "We got ourselves a new friend!" Jenga looked around, but could see no one, everyone in back of her. There was about three deep laughs around her. She was suddenly spun around so she was facing everyone. There was a dark haired woman who had bright green eyes, and a recent gash running from her temple to her jaw line. Jenga stared at her, struggling against the rope. There were four men around her, all of them wearing masks, all of them clearly enjoying seeing Jenga struggling, save for one man in the back ground who looked like he was furious about something.

The woman laughed, grabbing Jengas face, forcing Jenga to look at her. "Look at this!" She pointed to the gash on her face. "Your little friend did this! The blondie," The woman growled, looking angry for a second before the morbid smile came across her face again. Jenga tried to keep her face blank as she continued to struggle against the rope. In all reality, she was actually slipping her foot from her boot, about ready to wrench out of it at any second. "I have no idea who you're talking about," Jenga growled, "I'm alone." The woman raised an eyebrow, the smile still on her stupid face. "Oh?" She asked, looking to one of her boys. She nodded, and he left the room. "Are you sure?" She asked. The guy soon came back in dragging a groggy Haven, throwing her against a wall. Jenga forced herself to not stare at her friend, hoping she was uninjured and okay.

"Never seen her in my life," Jenga said, looking straight at the woman. ".... Oh, so you wouldn't mind if we killed her?" The woman asked, turning around and pulling a gun from her waist band. Instantly Jenga ripped her foot from her boot, falling to the ground. Her back hit it hard, but it didn't stop her from spinning around and kicking the woman's legs out from under her. Jenga grabbed the gun, and wasted no time pointing it at the shocked woman's head, and pulling the trigger. The gun jolted back, blood splattering everywhere. Jenga quickly moved to the man closest to Haven, shooting him in the chest, then the two other guys to her left, who were reaching for their guns, still in shock. Jenga quickly pointed it at the last man, who stood in the door way of the kitchen, his hands up. He was the one who looked angry, like he wasn't happy about the situation he was in.

Jenga's face flickered with hesitation as she pointed the gun at the man, who had quickly pulled his gun and dropped it on the floor. "I mean no harm!" He said through his mask, which covered only the lower half of his face. His eyes were wide with fear as he stared at the gun pointed at him. Jenga frowned, but for some reason trusted him. "Who the fuck are you?" Jenga growled, standing up. She slowly started to walk over to half-conscious Haven, who was slumped against the wall. "My name is Marc... Marc Coast... These guys were bandits, they killed you if you didn't join them... I-I swear I didn't want to but I have a family I need to get back to... I promise I'm not going to hurt you two... You guys are hurt, right?... I was a doctor for the navy, I have supplies for stitches, and can help..." He kept his hands up as Jenga risked glancing over to Haven. Her leg looked worse, and there was a cut on her cheek. Jenga frowned, looking back over to Marc. "If you help us, I won't shoot you," She growled, hesitantly putting the gun into the back of her pants.

Marc let out a sigh, dropping his hands. Jenga hurriedly went around, collecting all the guns, putting them in her bag. "Are there any more bandits?" She asked, pulling her boot out of the rope loop. "Yeah, but they're all on the other side of town... I have a truck, though, it can get us out of here." Jenga nodded, going over to Haven, she pulled her off of the floor. "Help me with her, if we get into any trouble I'll let you have a gun, but otherwise they're staying with me," Jenga said, wrapping Havens arm around her shoulders. Marc nodded, hurrying over and doing the same thing. They walked slowly out of the house, and onto the streets.

Nah, I understand x3. I thought that maybe we could add another character to the group? I wouldn't mind making him a character sheet and all, but if you want to keep it just Haven and Jenga then we can just kill him off or something xD. Up to you, I don't mind either way.

Shortly around Jenga had left Haven followed, her leg burning even worse though as she limped the rest of the way. She had finally reached the town, which surprisingly look almost untouched yet barren of life. Paved roads lined the streets as small shops and bright houses sat perfectly row by row. It was quite beautiful except for the few broken in windows and stray pieces of litter. Haven took a few more minutes to sit before she started looking for Jenga, limping her way around with her knife at the ready. As she was passing a convenience a sudden thud made her jump in surprise. Turning towards the noise Haven frowned, seeing a zombie press its face against the window, clawing at it as it tried to get her. Just as Haven was about to turn around, cool metal pressing against the back of her head, causing her body to tense.

"Well hello there, who do we have here?" a feminine voice questioned, her tone slightly playful. Acting on adrenaline, Haven swiftly turned, ignoring the pain in her leg and slicing her knife across the woman's face. The dark haired woman hissed in pain, rearing back from Haven's attack. The woman dropped her gun and clutched her face with both hands. Before Haven could get to the knife both her legs were kicked out and she fell face first, her leg howling in pain.

"Little bitch" was the last thing she heard before something hard hit her in the head, knocking her out.

--------

As Haven started to come too she heard a hazy but familiar voice along with the feeling of being moved. She groaned in pain as her eyes slowly began to focus, getting a glimpse of a familiar face.

"Jenga?" Haven grunted, surprised to see her fellow survivor. "How did you find me?" she questioned. The last thing she remembered was slashing that stranger's face. Turning her head slightly Haven finally noticed the stranger helping her walk, making her narrow her eyes in a glare. Without thinking Haven shoved him away, making the man stumble in surprise. There was something about him that she didn't like, Haven's gut telling her no matter how nice he seemed she couldn't trust him. The man didn't protest and instead took the lead, bringing them to a truck.

"I don't trust him, if he's got medical supplies I can pack myself up."

Alright, cool. I'll work on his CS, and try to have it posted by tonight, but I have work tonight, so I might just submit a WIP. We'll see.

Jenga looked over when she heard Haven groan. They had gotten a good distance from the house, and Marc was helping greatly, explaining that when everything went south he was stationed in Hawaii, while his family was up in Toronto, staying with his wife's family. When Haven pushed Marc away, Jenga was taken by surprise, trying to explain that Marc was helping. Despite this, Haven continued to be skeptical. Jenga didn't protest, and just helped her coworker walk. "Whether you like it or not, he's helping us. Until I have a reason to be cautious of him, I'm going to trust him, a bit. I took his gun, and I have my own. If things go south we'll be safe." She glanced over to her friend, frowning.

"Can we just focus on getting your leg fixed, though?" Jenga looked down at havens leg, noticing it was still bleeding, although not a lot. Marc glanced back at them, flashing a friendly smile. "We're almost there, but we should take a break. Too much stress on that leg will not help the situation," Marc said. For the first time Jenga noticed that Marc spoke with a slight southern drawl, his voice actually pretty deep and scratchy. Jenga nodded, and went over to a broken car. She set Haven down against the front bumper. "I actually got some cream that can reduce the pain, will that help?" Jenga asked. Marc came over as she kneeled down, rummaging through her back. She gave Marc a wary glance, scooting over slightly just in case. Marc noticed, but didn't say anything, keeping his hands out of his pockets to show he was of no harm.

Jenga stood back up, showing the tube of cream to Marc, who inspected it before nodding. "Should do the trick. Y'all can sit here for a bit, I'm gonna go make sure there's no patrols coming down the street," Marc said, backing up a bit before starting to walk a few yards away. Jenga opened the pain relief cream, and put some on her fingers, she looked to haven before starting to gingerly put it on her wound, trying to avoid touching the actual wound. It was bloody and red, hot with irritation. "God this is really bad... I can't imagine how much pain you're in," Jenga mumbled, a deep frown on her face. Once she put a generous amount of ointment on Havens leg she stood up, and started to undo her own bandages on her arm. Although it wasn't as bad as Havens leg, it was still red and puffy. Sighing Jenga looked over to see Marc was walking back over. "Damn, those are some pretty good slices... How did you say you got them again?" Marc looked between the girls. "We fell into a river... It was raining hard and we were running from a pack of infected," Jenga mumbled. Marc nodded, and was about to kneel down and take a close look at Havens leg, sending Jenga into an instant state of defence. "Hey," She warned, her accent thick with hostility. She took a step forward, reaching back for the gun in her waist line. Marc froze, instantly putting his hands up. "Sorry!... I just wanted to take a look, doctors impulse..."

Jenga remained tense until Marc moved a good distance away. The doctor scoffed, looking at Haven and Jenga. "You two are a piece of work, you know that?... Let's get moving, my truck is only a block or two farther." He turned and started to walk away. Keeping an eye on him, Jenga helped Haven up, wrapping Havens arm around her shoulder again. She kept quiet.

Haven had wondered why she didn't trust this him, but once she heard him speak she knew he had been the man that knocked her out. Her frown deepened but she didn't say anything else as they made their way to Marc's truck. It took them a good ten minutes to get to where Marc had parked his truck, which was in the driveway of a small brick home. Pulling out a set of keys from his pocket Marc opened the truck and reached into the cab, looking for his supplies while Haven and Jenga waited behind the truck. Haven pulled down the tailgate and lifted herself up to sit, taking pressure off her leg that made her sigh in relief.

"Let me see your arm" Haven ordered Jenga, who in turn lifted her arm for Haven to inspect. Haven grumbled quietly as she spotted signs of a bacterial infection, most likely from the river water getting into the tissue.

"We are going to need to clean this properly, warm water and soap should get rid of most of the bacteria then we should stitch it before reapplying that ointment. If we don't do it right that bacteria from the river could make us sick, I'm surprised we haven't suffered from a fever or nausea yet" Haven informed Jenga. At least those years of Med school wouldn't go to waste, all depending on how far the sickness spans into the future doctor's would be a rarity especially those with advanced knowledge of the human anatomy and surgeon skills. Haven remembered Marc mentioning something about being a doctor but she didn't know what kind of doctor.

Letting go of Jenga's arm Haven painfully maneuvered her own bandage off, inspecting the deep wound on her leg. Once again signs of bacterial infection were obvious which made her sign in irritation. Blood flow had slowed, her body probably working over time to stop her from bleeding out. Upon inspection Haven cursed, spotting a couple small rocks embedded into the inside meat of her leg. Thankfully she had tweezers in her bathroom bag. Un-shouldering her backpack Haven opened it up and searched for her tweezers, which were easily spotted being a flashy neon yellow.

"Hey y'all I found my kit and I've got some thread and needles" Marc sudden popped up from behind them, making Haven jump and point her tweezers at him. Sadly when that group had attacked her she lost her knife.

"What on earth do y'all think your gonna do with those?" Marc chuckled, a small grin brightening his face briefly. Haven only scoffed, not answering. With slight anger she snatched the medical kit from Marc's grasp, pocketed the tweezers and gingerly hopped down from the truck.

"We need to go inside, where there is still running, warm water. These wounds aren't going to clean themselves" Haven snapped as she started walking towards the door, Marc and Jenga right on her tail. As she assumed Marc and his previous gang had already scavenged the place. She cautiously walked inside, unsure if anything had gotten in. Jenga took the lead, gun at the ready. Haven and Marc waited by the door which Haven closed just to make sure. Once Jenga came back and gave the thumbs up Haven grabbed her uninjured arm and went to the kitchen. Grabbing the dish soap and turning on the water Haven waited until it was the perfect temperature before cleaning Jenga's cut, making sure to be as gentle as she could. Once she was sure it was clean Haven lead Jenga to the kitchen table and instructed she sit down. Going into 'Doctor Mode' as her dad had so endearingly called it Haven placed everything she needed from Marc's kit onto the table before sitting down herself.

"Make yourself useful and check the freezer for ice then come hold my phone" Haven snapped at Marc as she dug her phone from out of her backpack and turned on the flashlight app before handing it to him. He didn't look happy as Haven bossed him around but he complied, searching the fridge freezer for ice which he wrapped in a kitchen towel before handing it to her and taking her phone which he shone on Jenga's arm. Haven let the ice sit on Jenga's wound for a while, touching it everything once and a while and asking Jenga if she left anything. Once the wound was as numbed as it was going to get Haven readied the needle and started working on stitching Jenga's arm.

She did it as quick as she could but Haven couldn't help but feel guilty every time Jenga flinched or voiced her pain. Once Haven finished she inspected her work, quite proud of the perfect stitch she did. She then grabbed the ointment from Jenga's bag and spread it around the closed wound before wrapping it in new bandages from Marc's kit.

"There that should do it" Haven said proudly, briefly forgetting about her own wound which then throbbed in pain.

"Alright me now I guess" she said before standing up and walking to the bathroom, grabbing the dish soap on her way. Haven would have to use the bath tub to wash her wound. After finding the bathroom Haven took a seat on the edge of the tub and turned on the water. Grabbing the tweezers from her pocket Haven gulped before using the tweezers to fish out the small rocks. It took her a good twenty minutes to get everything out and wash up her wound. Once she finished Haven limped back to the kitchen table and iced her wound before she starting stitching.

Haven had to pause every once and a while as she clenched her fists and groaned in pain as she stitched up her wound. She had to stop halfway, unable to finish on her own.

"Hey Marc....hand Jenga the phone and go wash your hands I'll need you to continue where I stopped" Haven ordered, glaring at the older man who gave her a surprised look before complying. Haven had a feeling the only reason he was complaining about her commands was because he felt slightly guilty for knocking her out. But that was only her guess.

After Marc washed his hands he got down on his knees and continued to finish stitching Haven up. Once done Haven sighed in relief before applying the ointment and wrapping up her wound. She then turned to Marc.

"Thanks, but don't think for a moment that I trust you. I know it was you who had knocked me out" Haven growled.

Oh my gosh. Its so long lol

Jenga watched as Marc stitched up Havens leg, eyes wide in fascination. After a while she started to realize how gross it was, so she got up and started to walk around the house. Almost everything was gone, save for a kitchen table, some beds in the other room, and a flipped over couch. The carpets were dirty already, and in one of the rooms there was obviously mold or something, due to an open window allowing rain to pour in.

Marc looked surprised at Havens statement, then a little angry. He looked away, as if trying to figure out wheither or not he should confront Haven. He understood that the girls don't trust him, but Haven was acting like he killed her puppy or something. He was only doing his job, and even then it was practically with a gun to his head. It took him a long time to be able to sneak out of that house with the leader of the group to attack someone in cold blood. Marcus shook his head and walked away, deciding it wasn't worth it to fight with someone half his age. Instead he went into his back pack and started to pack up the medical kit, putting it in his pack. Looking back at Haven he growled, "I get that you don't trust me, I'm a big guy and everything is fucked, but you don't have to act like I killed your dad or something... I was doing what I was told for the survival of myself... And I am not going to apologize for that..." He narrowed his eyes, realizing his posture was rather hostile.

He took a few steps back, starting to calm down now. His mouth was still tight, but his body relaxed. There was a soft creek in the doorway that made Marc spin around, as if about ready to pull a gun. It was only Jenga staring at the two of them with a slight frown. She knew Haven didn't trust Marc, so she probably confronted him on it or something, which got Marc mad. Deciding not to pour gasoline on the fire, she simply said, "Does that truck of yours have gas, M?" She asked, making up her own nick name for Marcus. Marcs eyebrow raised a bit, but he didn't question the new name, answering, "Yup. Almost a full tank. We could easily get all the way across the island if we needed to. Why, you fixin' to leave?" Jenga nodded. It was too dangerous here, seeing as there would be more bandits on the way any minute now. M understood, fishing the keys out of his pockets. "I have a house on the military base we could hold up in, although it's a few hour drive from here, it's kinda hard to get to," Marc suggested.

Jenga looked over to Haven a 'we going to do this?' look in her eye.

Haven knew, she knew she was acting like a raging juvenile. But there was something about this man that tugged on her heart, made her feel slightly betrayed. She felt angry at this man but that anger didn't come from being knocked out. No it was more from having a dream crushed.

This man, Marc. A man who looked and sounded so much like her father's best friend, Mac. When Haven was little her father had been stationed in Hawaii and her and her mother had come to see him. And that is when six year old Haven had met her idol, a man who saved lives daily and always seemed to have a smile on his face. Mac and Haven's father, Issac had been best friends for years meeting during Navy training. Haven had so many fond memories of Mac, from the barbecues with his family to him teaching her how to do how first stitch. Haven hadn't seen Mac in years but her child brain had always thought that if she was to see Mac he would instantly recognize her.

Haven guessed that's why she feel angry and hurt, was because her stupid childish dream had been broken. Haven knew she couldn't hold it against him, she hadn't seen him since she was 13.

"I was asking for an apology Mac....yeah the military base sounds promising. My dad's got a house there too" Haven said, looking at Jenga before standing up gingerly. Her leg still hurt but it felt better without the rocks.

Marcus walked out of the house, still annoyed but not steaming. He looked up and down the streets while the girls were still inside. They were clear of most cars, save for the few that were either crashed or parked and abandoned on the side of the rode. The village was practically abandoned when they herd the city was doused in something toxic, so there were few zombies. The ones that were walking around were either stuck in houses, or quickly killed by the rebellion group.

Jenga gave Haven a slightly confused look at hearing the name 'Mac'. "Uhm... Okay? Come on, I'll help you into the truck and you can take a nap, you look exhausted," She said, going over and wrapping Havens arm around her shoulders. Leading her to the truck Jenga called out to Marcus, who looked lost in his own thought, "Can you get the door?" Marc obliged with a nod, helping Haven inside the back seat as well. "There's a bunch of junk on the seat, you can just shove that down onto the floor," He said over his shoulder as he rounded the truck to the drivers side. Once everyone was in Marc attempted to start the car. There was aloud wheezing sound coming from the engine, like there was a lose belt or something was stuck.

Marc instantly stopped turning the key, his eyes wide in surprise. "I don't get it, it's got a full tank," Marcus said, looking around the dashboard as if it held all the answers. "That wasn't the tank, it was the engine, something's not right," Jenga said, hopping out of the hood, mumbling something to Marcus like, "Pop the hood." She went around the front of the car, and pushed up the hood, propping it up with the built in prop stick. Marcus got out of the car as well, saying over his shoulder to Haven, "Stay here, please." Going over to the engine Marc started to mess around with some things. Jenga looked as well, tapping Marc on the shoulder. "Hey, shouldn't there be a part here?" She asked. There was a large hole on the side of the engine where some sort of devise use to be. Marcus's jaw dropped as he dropped to the ground and looked under the truck. "Did they-... Are you fucking kidding me?!" He growled out, obvious rage and irritation on his face. "They took out the fucking oil tank!" Jengas eyebrow raised. What she really wanted to ask was 'is that even possible?' but instead asked, "Why would they do that?" She bent down to look at Marcus, who was still laying under the truck, staring up at it in disbelief. "To stop me from leaving? I don't know, they probably knew I was gonna try and get away one day..."

Jenga frowned, jumping when she heard something in the bushes across the street. She looked over, seeing something move. Her eyebrow raised, and she knelt down, looking back to Marcus. "There's no zombies here, right?" She asked. Marc didn't even look at her as he answered. "Not many, and the ones that are still alive are stuck in houses," He was messing around with something on the bottom of the truck, but froze, looking over to Jenga, "Why?..." There was more shuffling, causing Jenga to look up. She wouldn't have seen it if there wasn't a flash of the scope from the sun. Her eyes went wide, and she instantly bolted out from the spot she was sitting. Not milliseconds later there was a loud bang, something flying into the trucks lower engine compartment, sparks flying all over the inside of engine, landing on Marc, who rolled from under the truck, quickly brushing them off. "There's a sniper!" Jenga said rushing around to the other side of the truck. There was another loud bang, a bullet landing only a foot to the left of Jenga.

She dove into her passenger door, grabbing her bag and staying low. She grabbed one of the four guns in her pack, as well as all the extra magazines she got. She handed one to Haven, growling under her breath, "Stay close to the truck, and don't you dare get hit." She gave one to Marcus as well, who was ducking in the drivers seat. She was about to say the same when Marc waved her off. "I know, be safe, don't get shot, what we need to do is sneak around the side and get the angle on him. He'll be focusing his fire on me, because I'm the traitor and the most capable of doing that. Jenga, can you do it?" Marc looked to Jenga, who nodded a bit. "It's not my first time running from someone with a gun. I should be able to do this." Marcus nodded and hopped out of the truck, running to the next closest cover. Jenga hurried to get out of the truck, shooting one more look at Haven. "Stay safe," She said before rushing out of the truck. Marc was right, there were focusing most of their attention on him, only shooting at Jenga as an after thought.

Haven watched as Jenga and Marc split off into different directions, leaving her behind the truck. Peeking out from behind the truck Haven glared at the bushes, confusion buzzing in her head. The shot had come from the bushes just across the street, the shot should have been simple. An easy shot. Yet this guy had almost literally shot at Marc and Jenga's feet. So either he's a very terrible shot or he was planning something.

Glancing around the truck Haven spotted both Jenga and Marc as they went around the side, trying to corner the shooter. Haven saw the glare of the scope but she found it strange. Why would the shooter leave it visible? Out of pure suspicion Haven moved out of her hiding spot and walked towards the shooter's hiding spot.

"I knew it" she growled as she reached into the bushes, pulling out the hidden hunting rifle. The shooter was gone. The rifle was just your common hunting rifle but it had a detachable scope, shoulder sling and extended magazine. This gang must have hit up a gun store along their travels. Checking the magazine only a few bullets were missing, probably the one's he shot at Jenga and Marc. Haven shouldered the gun just as she saw Marc and Jenga walking towards her, both having a rather unpleasant look on their face. Haven could sense the scolding Jenga was preparing for her.

"Did you see him? He ran off but its really strange, this isn't a bad gun so why didn't he shoot you guys? You were right out in the open....I don't like the feeling of this, we have to get out of here" Haven's voice held suspicion and uncertainty.

Jenga saw the men run, hidden by a electrical box in the yard. She almost was able to hit one of them with her pistol, but when she heard "I knew it!" She froze, and turned around. Haven had walked right up to the gun, picking it up to show that no one was holding onto it. Jengas face visibly darkened with anger and annoyance, seeing as the move was a very stupid one. She walked over to Haven, looking over to see Marc was just as angry as she was. Marc grabbed the gun, mumbling grumpily, "Give me that..." He looked it over while Jenga just stared at Haven, arms crossed. There was so many things she could say right now, but a piercing stare would do just fine to convey her point.

"I know this gun," Marcus growled, either still angry at Haven or angry at the fact that he knew the owner of the gun. "It's my friends... We need to go." He turned and started to walk away. Jenga continued to stare at Haven, calling out, "You know she's right..." Marc stopped and looked back, confused. It took Jenga a second to finally pull her eyes away from Haven, still angry. "We were very easy shots, if this was your friend then you know it's probably unlikely for him to miss," She looked at Marcus, who was still pissed. "Do you not think I know that?" Marc growled, taking a step forward. Jenga visibly tensed, her arm flexing for her gun. Marcus stopped, frowning. "I'm taking us out of here, but a different way then normal." With that he turned around and started to walk away. Jenga gave him a confused look, walking after him, glancing back to make sure Haven was still following. "And what way is that?"

Marc was starting to grab all the stuff out of the truck that he could. "There's some mountains not too far from here. We'll be safe if we can climb 'em." Jenag raised an eyebrow. "What about the naval base?" Marcus turned towards her. "The Naval base is on the other side of the mountains." The anger was gone, now a childish like look was in his eyes as he gave the girls a slight grin. "It'll take a while to get over them, they are some pretty large mountains, but there's tiny villages dotted all over them, and the trails aren't too steep, so it'll keep Havens leg from going through too much hell." Marcus handed Jenga and Haven some bags filled with stuff. With that he started to walk.
