âPhysical Descriptionâ
Heng Ling prefers to dress more traditionally, and is usually covered head to toe in various types of concealing clothing. Most notably is his straw basket helmet. It completely covers his head and any facial features. Moving down, his body is usually covered by a garment that has longer sleeves, such as a kimono, robe, tunic, long-coat, etc. However, if he is traveling through a hotter region, he will switch to a sleeveless top. He also wears cloth wraps or straw gauntlets around his wrists to keep any sleeves from flapping about, if he is wearing a top with sleeves that are too long. He also wears a sash around his waist, which he will often keep various blades strapped onto. He wears baggy and long legged pants, even in the heat. Covering his feet are usually straw sandals with tabi socks, although he has a pair of heavy boots for harsh terrains. He also uses wraps on his ankles to keep his baggy pants from flowing around. Along with the above traditional garments, Heng does have modern casual wear. He has a pair of jeans, and his sleeveless tops can act fine in a casual setting. He also has two plum colored hooded sweatshirts, both of which are very baggy. Even in a casual setting, however, Heng will most likely keep his helmet on.
He usually carries one of his weapons, a staff with metal rings at the end of it, at all times. He will often have other various cloth bandoliers which he keeps various equipment/ammunition on depending on the occasion. He also always has a small satchel on his sash to store his bamboo flute in. Just like he has a small casual outfit, Heng has more modern leather holsters and satchels to match. Just because he's very simple doesn't mean he's not fashionable.
Unmasked, he has long, puffy hair which he keeps tied back in a puffy ponytail. He is tan of skin, has pale green eyes, and dark brown hair. It is not often that he is unmasked.
Inner Soul
âŠDrinking || Heng drinks. Sometimes a lot. Sometimes more than he should. Thankfully, he is a happy drunk.
âŠFidgeting || Although it seems childish, Heng can't sit still. He has to move around or shake an arm or a leg to be comfortable.
âŠMusic Making || Heng is a "master musician". As such, when there's not much to do, Heng will sing or play his bamboo flute.
Hope to your maker that he keeps off the flute.
âLikesâ
â„Alcohol || Heng is practically an alcoholic, as such he loves alcohol. He'll drink pretty much anything you put in front of him.
â„Music || Heng appreciates all music, not just his own. He loves to listen to it, and loves even more to dance and shake about.
â„Company || While he can deal with being alone, Heng prefers company. He generally enjoys the presence of others.
â„Genuity || Heng likes those who portray their genuine selves. He wears the bucket on his head as a reminder that ego and vanity should not be a major interaction between people, and that being genuine to others is a virtue.
âNon-Bending Talentsâ
âWeapons Expertise || As a mercenary, it's only natural that Heng has a mastery over weaponry. While he is more skilled with weapons in his own possession, Heng's natural talent at fighting allows him to wield practically any weapon with skill.
âImprovisationalist || Heng is not only skilled in traditional fighting. He is very good at moving with the flow of a battle, and using his surroundings to his advantage. A room full of furniture is a room full of tricks, traps, and weapons for Heng to use against his opponents.
âHeavy Lifter || Despite his lanky appearence, Heng is quite strong. As such, he is capable of lifting or carrying heavy things with more ease than others (this, of course, has it's limits. You won't see Heng picking up and chucking cars.)
âAlchemical || Heng was taught very early about potions, poisons and chemicals, and how to put them to good use. Given the proper ingredients, Heng can alchemize a variety of things, ranging from healing salves and pain killers to poisons, tranquilizers, and even some low to medium power explosives.
âSense of Touch || Due to most of Heng's other sense being blocked out by his helmet, Heng has developed increased sensitivity of the ground beneath his feet. This doesn't mean he's like Toph; he's just better than most people at feeling vibrations on the ground, to a point where he can judge people moving around him.
âBending Talentsâ
âNone || Heng is not a bender, and cannot in any way, shape, or form bend.
âDislikesâ
âCriticism|| Although Heng thinks he's a musical prodigy, he knows deep down that he's terrible at making music; and he doesn't like being reminded about it. Unfortunately, it happens just about every time he takes out his flute. When confronted with criticism, he usually tries to play it off and pretend like they were just joking around. He can actually get really depressed if he's hit too harshly with the criticism.
âBeing stuck in one place || Heng likes to go places and see new things. If he's stuck in the same place for too long, he gets wanderlust and often times loses sleep over it.
âSuppression || Heng doesn't like being held down or held back. Despite his personality, Heng tends to strike out violently at being locked down or stuck. Heng has a lot of patience, but not when it comes to being held down.
âFakeness|| Heng hates those who are not genuine to others; he especially hates liars. He believes that those who are not true to themselves and others are not free, but trapped under insecurity sorrow.
âFearsâ
âLoss of Freedom || Heng has been travelling free for a very long time; and, for the most part, it's all he's ever really wanted. The thoought of losing that freedom can scare him, although this fear isn't crippling. Rather, it tends to make him agitated, and fired up. If something threatens to take away his freedom, Heng is more than willing to act against and resist that threat.
âLoss of Ethics || In life, it's not difficult to lose one's way; both literally and metaphorically. Heng often fears that his profession will one day lead him astray, and cause him to become something he is not. As such, Heng tries his very best not to kill anyone, unless it's absolutely necessary. Although he is a mercenary, he still has a heart.
âLoss of Purpose || What's the point of being free, if you don't use that freedom to express yourself and do something meaningful? Heng often questions himself with this thought, which is why he sticks to mercenary work. Heng often fears that he will one day run out of things to do, or he'll run out of the spirit to do them.
âFlawsâ
âSenses || Wearing that big straw mask dampens some of his senses. He doesn't hear many soft noises, his sense of smell is a bit weaker, and he has practically no peripheral vision.
âSides and Back || Due to a loss of peripheral vision, Heng is more vulnerable to attacks from his sides or back, especially attacks at a range. To counter this, Heng is more prone to feeling the footfalls of people around him, especially heavy footfalls such as someone charging at him. However, if an attack is in the air, Heng has almost no way to tell.
âProjectiles || Heng has no protection against projectiles other than seeing them coming head on. If he's lucky, or it's quiet enough, he may be able to hear them, but it's very tough.
âDensity || Heng is a very dense man. He isn't good at catching satire or sarcasm. He treats everyone the same, even his enemies to an extent. This can be easily used to his advantage.
âInnocence || Heng is sort of immature, in the sense that he's sometimes a bit gullible, and would rather believe in the good in people rather than the bad. This can lead to him being easily taken advantage of.
âSecretsâ
âHeng is secretly (but not really) a terribly awful musician.
