Jonathan Blackwood

Professor of Psychology - We are all masters of deception in our own way, but the true question is not how we are perceived by the world; but rather how we perceive the world.

Description

Jonathan Havelock Blackwood
Image
Name Professor Jonathan Havelock Blackwood, MD DECPsy
Nickname John, Jon Low-Key Lyesmith, Idleness is the parent of psychology. Which comes first? Yesterday or tomorrow? All we really have is the present moment.

Age 35
City/State/Country Gateshead/Tyne and Wear/England

Personality Jonathan has always been of an inquisitive nature, and has a zest for investigating how things work and what makes them tick; even if it is beyond his scope of interest he will still look into it should he become intrigued by its existence. Friendly and outgoing, he has always attempted to try something at least once, believing that in order to understand the world one must experience it to the fullest.
In his classroom he is known to be an engaging teacher, always provoking his class to approach his subject from new angles and develop new ways to solve problems. Though he may have a relaxed approach to his students, he still demands high levels of attention and focus and has a habit of derailing the topic before suddenly handing out a large body of word within a tight deadline.
While he is easily approachable when he wants to be his manner can come across as somewhat disinterested at times; constantly wandering his view anywhere but where it should be, an unsteady gait that gives the impression that he can barely stand, and a forwardness with his words that come across as rude to many. He is usually to be found reading alone either in his personal study or wandering the expansive grounds and buildings of academy during the evenings, sometimes stopping off at the gym for a few hours to keep in shape and hone his skill at archery.
Since Daphne Davenport took up her position as a professor at the academy he has entered into several disagreements with her over her tendency to be rather heavy handed with her students, but other than that he finds her to be a decent sort. And over the years he has worked alongside Nanji he has developed a great deal of control over his abilities but despite this he still fearful of a day when he is overwhelmed again, even though it has been more years than he cares to count since that happened and he is unable to forget it, nor any other day, however much he tries.

Powers/Abilites
Enhanced Memory – While possessed of an exceptional intellect it is his memory which exceeds that of normal humans.
Enhanced Regeneration - able to heal most wounds and injury.
Intuitive Empathy – from birth he had an uncanny ability to understand how things worked and were put together, even if he didn’t understand the process behind it. Over time as his grasp of knowledge expanded he was able to develop a connection to others and mimic their powers for short durations.
Lie Detection – While some would class it as something unnatural it is simply a talent for which Jonathan has spent most of his life perfecting and while he can be fooled it is very rare, as he can read it from a person’s body language rather than from their words.

What got you sent here(Give a small description of what you've done to get sent here)
While teaching at UCL he wrote several thesis’s some of which were highlighted by Professor Nanji, who recruited Jonathan to teach at the academy and to help seek out new students. Since their first meeting they’ve worked together to help the students at the school.

How long have you been here? Twelve years in total

History
Some aspects of his life are secrets he holds close to his heart but what is known is that from an early age he was bright and developing much quicker than expected. By the time he was 15 he had already left home and enrolled at Newcastle University doing a BSc Honours in Psychology which he successfully completed in a little over a year, attaining a 1:1 as well as becoming a Graduate member of psychology; he then moved onto do another degree in Clinical Psychology for a further year before coming out with another 1:1. In light of this he moved into Neuroscience, spurred on by wanting to learn more about how his brain worked and if he was the only one. The following year while completing a Doctor of Medicine degree investigating neural computation and network systems in the field of neuroscience he was also given a Master of Research degree on the subject due to a thesis he had compiled during his term.
While studying for his degrees he had managed to fund his subsequent learning and afford to live through night time teaching at a local and after finishing up his MD he transferred down to London to pursue teaching as his primary focus while his research became somewhat part time. Following his completion of his educational tenure at UCL he joined the faculty in their college of Psychology full time eventually rising to become provost, using his time off to continue his research into the emergence of those with extraordinary talents. After publishing several papers on the subject he attracted the attention of Nanji during which time he before joining the Academy and he left UCL quietly accepting two doctorates; one in Education and the other in Educational and Child Psychology.

Daphne sat in her office at the beginning of another day at Jodia. The routine so similar to her that all the days meshed into one. It was early yet and most students would still be in the breakfast hall however most she guessed would still be a bed.

Yet even at this early hour she sensed magic was a foot. A small smile creased her lips . . . ah the life of a student at Jodia Academy. Daphne missed her days as a student here at Jodia not that she didn't love her job as the Professor of Etiquette more. It was just that being a student held a lot less responsibilities.

Daphne brushed the amusing thoughts away with a shake of her head as she readied the last of her lesson plans for the first semester of the year. A flash from the large window caught her attention from the side of her eyes and the next moment heavy sheets of rain began pelting angrily against the clear glass.

She loved the unpredictable tropical weather here. It was tempting to go out and allow the cool rain to sooth her constantly heated skin . . . Alas, there were still many a preparations to make before her first class of the day.

Daphne wondered how Jonathan Blackwood was fairing. He had gone away for the holidays and she had not seen him since he had left but she'd heard he was back . . . A smirk rose to her pretty pink lips . . . She'd missed their heated conversations regarding her teaching techniques.

Alright! So sometimes she just challenged him on purpose to get a rise out of him. It was surprisingly easy to do, seeing as he was usually a calm and collected man but she loved watching him have a melt down at her teasing . . .

Yes, Daphne certainly looked forward to the new school year ahead . . .

It had been a rough summer, it always was when he left the Academy. It wasn't much of a break, but then teaching tended to help him relax more than time away did anyways. But all the same the arrival back the previous night had still been rather straining for him. Shaking his head slightly, he gently rubbed his fingers against the bridge of his nose in an attempt calmly force back his memories and file them away in his mind. He looked up from his book as the sky flashed suddenly with a thunder crack, which from what he had heard were becoming a constant occurrence since one of the students had decided to further his personal learning. He'd have the check over the files again, but he knew it would most likely be Milo.

"I think a little fresh air is in order mate." He chuckled to himself as he rose from the soft recliner he'd been lounging in for several hours now. Walking over to a small stone basin set in the wall of his study he lightly washed his face with water, letting his fingers slowly brush over the growing stubble and shaking loose the last few drops of water. Running his fingers through his hair and satisfied that he was as awake as he would be he picked up his jacket from its hanger on the wall and left through the door into the corridor leading to the back of the library. His footsteps echoed on the oak floor as he made his way through the towering shelves and out into the main body of the building then out into the early light of dawn.

And, as the doors closed lightly behind him, it would appear a shower of rain. He smiled and shook his head as the water trickled down his face. With his hands in his pockets and his jacket left open he slowly wandered across the grounds of the Academy, tracing its stone pathways and enjoying the peacefulness of it during the early morning.

Carina laid on the bed for a bit, she was bored, bored of being locked in this room because of Cosette and Ari. She could just go out and have some fun with those other students. "I think we should go out and find someone to play with girls" she said and rolled herself over till she was sitting up. Her eyes changed to green quickly and Cosette spoke up "Carina as much as I would love to find a new doll to play with Mr.Nanji would not appreciate us playing with other students". Her eyes then changed to purple, Ari felt a little shooken up "W..we can't go out there, Mr.Nanji or Ms.Davenport or Mr.Blackwood will come soon but we can't go out...its to dangerous for me to be out there...I could hurt them.

Carina took over and rolled her eyes "But Ari! Thats the whole point...Cosette would have someone to play house with and I would be able to have all the blood I would like, I would be in heaven and you wouls have nothing to worry about cause you will always have Cosette and I. But for your mental sake...I guess we can wait for someone to get close to the door or one of your teachers show up". She made her way over to the door and opened it up a crack and looked out to see if there was anyone close enough to grab or if one of those teachers that Ari felt so close to were coming this way.

It had been over half an hour since he'd left the warmth of his study and the fresh air was doing him wonders. "It's good to be home." he muttered to himself as he wandered down towards the lakeside, staring out at the reflection of the rising sun on the water. Correction, on the thickening layer of ice. Somewhat puzzled as it was a relatively warm morning he glanced out across the lake to see a girl skating across the now solid surface. However as he watched, he could see that the ice was already melting under the glare of the first rays of sunlight before gently cracking giving way under her.

Seeing her fall through and concerned for the girl's safety he began making his way towards the side nearest her, however he also saw that Milo looked ready to try something stupid. Thankfully, through the boys hesitation or the girls determination she appeared to have swam well enough to the shore before any chance of it becoming electrified. As he drew closer he was better able to assess her for any injury, though from what he could tell she seemed to be fine besides a slight cough, due to water intake, and being soaked through. However the lack of shivers suggested an affinity with cold and, by the display on the lake, most likely ice as well.

He walked over to the pair and smiled at them both "Hello Milo, please make sure to leave at least one target alone, should you decide to wake everyone up again in the future." he said, half chuckling before turning to the girl "And Miss Viola, you're not hurt are you? Falling into a frozen lake may not be the best of pre-class activities.

Attia's head shot up as a voice entered her mind. Swirling her finger, water whisked out of her ears and made it so they wouldn't be clogged and she wouldn't have to hit the side of her head to expel it, then she pushed herself up. The water dropped to the ground and soaked into it. She rolled her eyes at the boy - Milo, wasn't it? - and gave him a 'Very funny' look.

"Oh, ha-ha, that was so funny I forgot to laugh," she said sarcastically, but managed a smile anyway. She dropped down beside the water and untied one shoe, draining it of water. She glanced up at the man that approached them and smiled sweetly at him. "I'm fine. A little water never hurts someone," she said, waving his worry off. She replaced her shoe and went on to the other one, draining it of water. "Besides, I like the water. I love it, actually," she added, slipping her other shoe on her foot. She waved her hand in front of her body and water flew from it, landing in the small lake.

"If I had realized how hot it is outside, I would have been able to keep the water frozen. But I realized a little too late. I started to feel ill and I wasn't able to keep it frozen. Actually, to be honest, I'm not feeling too well right now," she said, her southern accent escaping her. She rose and pulling her hair over her shoulder, wringing it out with her hands. Water splashed to the ground, her hair dry, and she tossed it back. She offered them both a slightly smaller smile, her cheeks a bit flushed and a gentle bead of sweat dotting her hairline. "Excuse me, but I really should go back on inside now. As I said before, I'm not feeling well," she told them. "It was a pleasure meeting you both."

With that, she turned and started back towards the Academy, breathing slowly and snow beginning to swirl around her body in an effort to keep her cool. She was already growing dizzy. Why did she have to agree to go somewhere even hotter then Texas? She had enough trouble back in her hometown with going outside, now she had to live somewhere where the temperatures were even higher?

She swayed a little on her feet and made it inside just before she would have taken a turn for the worse. The cooler interior of the Academy encompassed her, her own powers recharging and cooling her skin and body. She made her way over to a small couch beside the doors and dropped down into it, leaning forward with her elbows on her knees and her forehead in her hands as her head began to throb painfully.

Jonathan had been about to explain to Milo exactly why he'd wanted at least one target left, but as he kept one hidden for precisely that reason it would have been pointless. He shook he head as the boy wandered off after the new student, clearly she'd made an impression if Milo's slight change in attitude was any clue.

"A taste of his own medicine is good for the lad." He muttered to himself as he turned back to look out over the lake, slowly kneeling down to pick up a stone to toss across the surface. He watched a little despondently as the stone just went 'plomp' and sunk. "I know it should work and I know how its supposed too, but it never does." he chuckled to himself and shook his head before walking slowly back up to the the main building, a desire for food had been stirring for some time now.

As he entered the cafeteria he noted a few of the students were milling around and enjoying their breakfasts, before he wandered through to the staff kitchen and began pottering, as he preferred to cook his own food every so often as opposed to what was already made. Putting a pan on the hob he began frying up some bacon, smiling at the sizzling smell wafting upwards, before scooping it up and into a couple of sarnies. He then walked back into the cafeteria, sitting in the corner with a glass of milk and his breakfast, intending to make the most of his time before classes began.

Zephania was in no real hurry as he walked into the cafeteria, he never had any classes to give during first period so he was at least a couple of hours away from being needed for anything. A slow morning had become part of his daily routine; he enjoyed the pace of life Jodia afforded. You mostly only had students to keep up with, and the pace wasn't exactly fast. Not many of them were morning people.

He loaded up a tray with some food, keeping his head down to avoid eye contact with any of the students. Conversation with the young people here wasn't always high on his agenda; most of them were far too idealistic. In the classroom it was different, he could coax them out of their preconceptions a little bit. For now he simply glanced about, spotting Jonathan sitting alone in the corner. Good; Jonathan was a member of staff with whom Zeff managed to form some sort of rapport. It wasn't that the two men had any particular empathy, but rather that as a professor of psychology, Jonathan had a pragmatic, realistic view of people rather than the gilded, rose-tinted perception you too often found elsewhere.

Sliding his tray onto the table and sitting down across from him, Zeff nodded blankly, and reclined back in his chair to eat. He cast an eye over the cafeteria and watched the morning buzz swell gradually. Here and there he saw a few boisterous demonstrations of the various abilities that made these kids unique, and allowed himself a wry smirk.

"Every morning," he murmered, loud enough only for Jonathan to hear, "I marvel at the thought that any government department thought they had the resources to turn this into the 'perfect weapon'."

With the word 'this' he swept his hand to indicate the grinning, ragtag ensemble of youths milling about.

"Every morning," he heard Zephania murmur, just loud enough for him to hear, "I marvel at the thought that any government department thought they had the resources to turn this into the 'perfect weapon'." waving his hand in the direction of the general students milling around the cafeteria as he spoke.

"I think their plan was more to avoid the chance for them to become weapons. After all many of them are presumed dead by the governments who tasked Nanji to find them. They're perfect weapons in their own way, but flawed by their humanity." Jonathan nodded slowly as he took a bite of his sarnie. After a moments pause he continued. "But when you get right down to it they are still children, even if some have the power of a storm at their fingertips or through thought alone can turn a nunnery into a brothel. We just have to hope that when they leave here and take their new place in the world that rejected them they retain the core of their humanity and do not simply become a vessel for their hate and fear as their powers control them." He shook his head and chuckled.

"My apologies old boy, I've been up most of the night, something weighing on my mind; and young Milo's boisterous display earlier gives me cause for concern. I believe he could do with a little extra curricular training."

Zephania stared thoughtfully at Jonathan. The man's serious words were almost offset by his quintessentially British habit of turning most kinds of food into a sandwich. Enough years had passed for Zeph to know how his colleague viewed what they did here, and he knew better than to inject such a discussion with an excessive dose of cynicism. Besides, the academy had, so far, been relatively successful in it's endeavours.

"No apology needed." he replied, "The optimism is endearing. I just wonder if humanity is above being controlled by some kind of power, either your own or somebody elses. As for hate and fear...well they may be part of the humanity package too. Still, if the likes of Milo are as perfect a weapon as we are attempting to hone, then I think the enemies of peace may sleep well."

He finished up breakfast and leaned back casually, conveying with his demeanour a reminder that he was several hours away from having any real duties. "So aside from student vapourising academy apparatus, what else is costing you sleep?"

"So aside from student vapourising academy apparatus, what else is costing you sleep?"

He pondered this for a moment before shaking his head "The past come back to haunt me Zeph, memories I can't place are fighting to be remembered. And as I have Never forgotten something, however much I have tried in the past." he shifted uneasily, resting his thumb against his cheek and his first two fingers against his temple, and giving Zeph a crooked smile "this is unsettling." he sighs softly before giving his colleague a half smile

"Anyway, I was never much of an optimist despite what you keep believing, a realist perhaps. After all if I were an un-gifted mortal I would spend every moment of my day terrified at the havoc any of us could cause given the inclination. The world is too easily controlled for it is the mindset of a mob, and such a creature has an intellect limited by the IQ of its dumbest member divided by the total. If we were to attain an IQ of one I would be infinitely surprised. Weapons or not, the world would not accept them without turning to fear and then they would just be lead by the first madman to capture their attention. That would be when they'd truly turn them into weapons." he chuckled dryly to himself before downing his glass and raising his hand, as he flicked the fingers away from his forehead, in a general gesture of uncertainty "What a abysmal planet this can be if we but acknowledge the simplicities of the human condition, untapped resources give man cause for conflict. And keep the morticians in a steady job, of course."

The bleak assessment Professor Blackwood gave of the student's prospects in the world. There really wasn't anything he could contest.

"So they will leave this place either as something the world will fear and hate, or as something the world with try to manipulate and harness against other things it fears and hates. I'm starting to understand why the academy doesn't have a careers advisor."

He turned to look at the students still in the cafeteria, and realised that first period was about to start, and it was Jonathan taking the class. The students would unlikely be prodded into action if they saw the professors still looking too comfy.

"Haunted by forgotten memories you say?" he murmured, "Very odd. I've always said it's better to keep the past in mind, however painful, because it cannot stay buried in the mind for long. For you especially, if anything was buried it must have been a great effort. No doubt you had a good reason. Still, I hope it doesn't cause you many more sleepless nights. If I lose focus when I'm teaching the worst that can happen is a student pulls a muscle. If you lose focus when teaching philosophy, you could be responsible for the next Hitler."

"If I lose focus when I'm teaching the worst that can happen is a student pulls a muscle. If you lose focus when teaching philosophy, you could be responsible for the next Hitler."

The comment caused Jonathan to burst out laughing till he almost had tears running from his eyes "Well I wouldn't go that far, hopefully. But some people can be bloody fools when it comes to understanding their place within the world. I'll keep away from motivation behind your future till I'm not having sleepless nights. Promise" He shook his head and stood up, smiling on the left side of his face as he did. Checking his watch he noticed it was getting closer to the start of class.

"Better be making tracks, don't want to be the last person at my class." he shrugged at Zeph then speaking a little louder, so that his voice carried to the others in the canteen "After all classes are starting soon." hopefully jolting the kids muttering in the corner.

"See you later lad, you still up for a pint after your class?" He asked as he was making to leave in the direction of his classroom.

Jonathan gave Zeph a half salute, half wave with his first two fingers pressed against his temple as he walked backwards out of the canteen. "Class beckons." Turning sharply he walked steadily down the corridors of the academy in the direction of his class, whistling tunelessly and grinning to himself. As he entered the classroom he sighed softly before shaking his head and moving his chair into the center of the front rather than behind his desk.

"Marvelous turn out as always." He said to the two students as he sat on the chair facing them. "So, feeling better after your fun by the lake you two?"

Jonathan looked up as he heard a scream echoing through the corridors, tilting his head slightly and cocking an ear. "By the sound of it" he says as the words 'son of a bitch' rang out "Nanji is having to deal with an 'issue' and sadly there is little we can do to help and would most likely result in injury should more become involved. I think it was most likely Sadie, going from the sound of the scream rather than Tristan."

He sighs before walking over and directing the boy back into the class as he closes the door. "Anyways, thank you for the offer Attia, but like Milo pointed out they have feet to carry them here. Also, commendable you concern for your fellow student lad. Shows you have a heart."

Attia glanced over at Milo and rolled her eyes. "Smart-ass," she muttered dryly, smirking at him. She closed her eyes for a moment, but they shot open in alarm at the sound of the piercing scream, which reverberated throughout the halls and into the kitchen. She looked over at the door, but by then, Milo was already crossing the room to it. She figured that he would her what had happened, so there she stayed, still a bit exhausted from going outside far too much that day.

Not only was she exhausted physically, but also mentally. She closed her eyes and dropped her forehead to her knees as Blackwood left briefly and almost immediately returned, urging Milo back into the room. She tilted her head up just enough so her eyes were revealed and her nose and mouth were hidden by her knees, and watch as Blackwood crossed the room.

"Professor Blackwood?" she said quietly, her eyes on him for a moment before briefly moving away. "What's it like ... To have people care about you? What's it like to be loved by your family, friends, or ... Just ... Anyone? Is it as nice as it sounds?" she asked, her expression innocent and that of a young child's in that moment. "What's it like to be loved?"

"What's it like to be loved?"

The question seemed to echo inside his head as he felt his jaw tighten. He closed his eyes for a moment before looking at both of his students. "Love is a complicated emotion, which is primarily responcible for a vast majority of the worlds suffering because it is something many of us seek constantly and go through hell in order to find it. Something which makes us die inside as our souls turn to dust and at the same time makes us feel as if we're able to fly across the 'verse in a single heartbeat is going to be craved by us as a race." He paused before shaking his head slightly before continuing.

"But in all honesty to be loved and cared for gives you a sense of security and stability, yet being the lover to one who doesn't return it drives people to madness in search of seeing their emotions given back in kind. I fell in love when I was at university, it was one of my happier times before coming to the academy but..." his brow furrowed as he thought back over the events of his earlier life and could see them interchanging over the same moment, which was driving him mad as this had only happened during the night when he couldn't sleep, but he'd not seen the memory he'd tried to remember as clearly conflicting before.

"She was murdered, I think." He half looked at his hands as if only seeing them for the first time and then gave himself a little shake "But all in all love is as horrible and hellish as all the stories say but it's also just as wonderful and inspiring as they say too. It's something you discover yourself; and while it may seem more like a prison here for many of us, and we're here for just as much as you are, we're still a family of sorts." He was greatly unsettled as he never lost his flow like that during class.

"I don't buy it. You mean to tell me my parents tried to crack me open like a fucking clock to see how I ticked, Cause they loved me?!"

Jonathan got up and walked swiftly after Milo as he'd made his way out of the class, turning to Attia as he did so "Dammit. Attia, I'll be right back. He's got the wrong end of the stick there..."
Closing the door behind them carefully he lowered his face so that it was level with Milo before he spoke "No, your parents were twisted and what they did to you was vile. I never said they did that because they loved you, it's up to you to decide if they did or didn't love you. But their actions were despicable and you didn't deserve that." He reached out and gave the boys shoulder a firm supportive squeeze.

"What's your power?" Milo asked, which caused Jonathan he look down at the boy for a long moment before half smiling and chuckling.

"In the three years that you've been here you've never asked about that you know?" He slides down the wall next to Milo and sits just outside the classroom for a moment before continuing. "I can't forget. Anything. Ever. I was born with enhanced memory as I crawled out of the warm darkness... Like I said I can't forget. Its somewhat of a burden at times but its also useful and I don't know what I'd do without it." He then lifted his hands to either side of his torso and slowed his breathing. His fingers began to spark softly, the charge of power growing till a small orb of electricity hovered just above the palm of his hands.

"I can see how everyones power interacts with the world around them, and how they 'tick' so to speak. I try not to but I can recreate others powers eventually. I used to use it to help talk students through difficulties years ago but after awhile it didn't seem worth it so I kept things to classroom and my powers hidden."

He let the orbs fade slightly before they burst, ripping the skin from his fingers slightly. The flesh melted and charred for a moment as a trickle of blood fell to the floor. "I was never good with the diffusion aspect of electricity manipulation." His skin slowly re-knitted back together and healed up as if nothing had happened.

His answer seemed to satisfy her, and although Attia had many more questions, she could tell that the subject pained him to speak of, or even think about, no matter how hard he attempted to hide the pain or to convince himself it don't hurt. He had loved that woman and, despite their age difference, her heart reached out to the man.

It was then that Milo reacted. He shot up from the desk, completely enraged at the mere suggestion - although she found no suggestion linking the two topics other then the word love - that his parents had, indeed, loved him. When he stormed from the room, she rose, as if to follow him, but sat back down as soon as he was gone, the professor trailing behind him.

Attia sat there for some time, waiting, thinking, going insane from both, until she could stand it no longer. She rose, grabbed her bag and soccer ball, and made her way from the room.

When she saw the two of them sitting on the floor, against the wall, looking like two lost puppies, she couldn't help herself. She burst into laughter, the ball slipping from her grip and bouncing to the floor.

"You two are the sorriest lookin' pair that I've seen in a long time. Look at you two! Worse lookin' then a turkey on Thanksgivin' morn'!" She exclaimed, her accent thick due to her laughter.

Once her laughter had died down enough to speak, she crouched before them, her hands on her knees. She drew one away to wipe at a fake tear in her eye. "Alrighty, you too. Y'all need a cheering up. I think everyone here needs to cheer up. It's way too gloomy of an atmosphere for anyone to make any step towards getting better and gaining better control over their powers. I suggest that we all - everyone, even the girl locked in her room - do something together. A game day, a feast, a dance, whatever. So long as it's fun and everyone joins in. I can guarantee things will get a lot better 'round these parts if people start enjoyin' themselves more," she nodded. She rose and held out a hand to both of them. "Come on, both of you. Let's go and talk to the Headmaster about it. Besides, no offense to you Professor, but this was a sorry turnout for a class," she grinned.

Attia's eye twitched a bit and she cast him a glare. "Excuse me? 'Don't mess with Texas'? You're-You're-You're," she stammered, unable to think of a word that fit what she was thinking about him. She lifted her hand and wagged her finger angrily in his face, her own face turning a bright red. "You're-You're-You're ... Incorrigible! Positively, absolutely obnoxious! How dare you insult my home?" she demanded, glaring daggers at him. "You know, I thought you were better then the people I knew back in Texas. I thought you wouldn't discriminate against others because of their heritage, or something they couldn't control, or ... or ... Just grow up, Milo Delaney!" she snapped.

With that said, she whirled away from the two and began away, ice appearing with each footstep. This was what she got in return for actually trying to get to know someone. That was the last time she would actually try to go out and speak to someone, or attempt to befriend them.

It was then that she realized she had forgotten her bag and soccer ball in the classroom.

Well, she wasn't about to go back for it and see Milo again. What a jerk ...

She turned a corner and looked down, ice slowly creeping up from the bottoms of her shoes, and over her ankles. Panic swelled in her and she shook out her feet, the ice shattering and falling away from her body.

She still couldn't rid that man's face from her mind.

The man who she'd stolen the power of Ice from.

The man that had died in her arms, despite her effort to save him.

The man who's death that she had caused.

She squeezed her eyes shut tightly and lifted her fists to the sides of her head, pressing them against her temples. "Get out of my head ..." she whispered, leaning against the wall beside her. "Get ... Out ..."
