Hisako is a transfer student at Ashinaka Highschool. Originally from England, she moved to Japan a year ago, and is now working as a relatively well known novelist under the name of Red Robin. A child prodigy, she is well known for her entralling mystery novels. Her novels pay for her rent and personal expenses, being estranged from her family and living independently at her own insistence. She's the clansman of the JUNGLE clan.

Hisako hasbright red hair and deep turqoise eyes. Her attire of a red sweater complements her hair, and she is rarely seen without it over her uniform or anything she chooses to wear. A round green pendant hangs on her neck, once belonging to her Mother. Standing at a height of 5'5, Hisako is quite small in size, her flexibility allowing her to squeeze into small spaces.

Loves:
Music | "It helps to block out the noise of the outside world for better immersion into more pleasant realities. When I turn on the music everything becomes crystal clear, I don't know how I could live without it."
Reading | "It's one of the ways to learn new things and expose oneself to the wonders of literature. Each book is akin to travelling to a completely new dimension, following the footsteps of the character onto the path of adventure! I'm getting excited just thinking about it, I'd have to stop at the library again today."
Detective stories | "There is logic and quick wit behind every tale, the journey is absolutely fascinating, and good ones have you hooked every step of the way. I just adore mysteries."
Writing | "I wonder if I'm being a little inconsiderate, but someday I hope to document the things going on now into a novel. Mysterious deaths, a phantom killer, the tensions rising between important factions... And oh, the three heroes that try to unravel the mystery behind it. But will they make it in time to prevent an all out war? Well... I hope so. Nevertheless, it's an enthralling plot line."
People | "Talking to new people never fails to amaze me, they each have their own tales and personality, each of their lives can be written into wonderful tales. If possible, I'd like to make friends with the whole world and write our stories together. Haha... that's a little ironic, considering the things that are going on now, isn't it?"

Hates:
Lies | "It's not that I mind being deceived, it's just that... the reason behind such deception must be an awfully sad one, don't you think? I wish to become the person no one would lie to, because they'd know I'll be with them no matter what. That's... possible for someone like me, right?"
Fire | "When I was very small, I accidentally scalded my finger when I tried to touch a flickering flame. I've been afraid of it ever since, it's just so wild and impossible to control. I suppose it can work both ways, both harmfully and beneficially, but it doesn't give me the peace of mind to be around..."
Spicy things | "Blehh. Who would like torturing their tastebuds voluntarily? In the end, the only thing I can't get used to is wasabi."
Being seen as a burden | "...It would only be selfish of me to ask for what I want and not think of anyone else. I don't want to hold others back just because I can't move on."
    Abandonment | "Ah... No comment."
Image▐ Determined
One thing you find out about Hisako immediately is that she's fiercely determined. There seems to be a fire burning in her that gives her the confidence she needs to try anything despite the risk of failure, the fighting spirit behind her usually distant eyes is unmistakable and impressive. Hisako will never give up on something that easily, always thinking of new plans and other alternatives to do it. When you think she has forgotten she brings it up again, the problem broiling in her mind for ages and ages until she solves it. She's never one to bow her head to crises, instead taking it in stride with the excitement of gaining new experiences.

▐ Cynical Idealist
There's a side to her that still believes in magic, believes that there exists good and purity in everyone she meets. The side that wants badly to help and be of assistance to as many people as she can, so that everyone could be happy. Her idealistic side wants and tries hard to believe in the good of people, and the things that could be possible instead of distrusting them and thinking of the situation negatively. However, her more cynical side believes otherwise, seeing the reality in all it's ugliness. It gives her some shaky ground on her beliefs, and sometimes Hisako doesn't know which side is actually her. She still thinks idealistically most of the time, but her sentences usually trail off to an unsure "...right?"

▐ Energetic
She might not seem to be attached to reality most of the time, but once you get her excited there is no going back. When it comes to the subjects she loves like stories or mysteries, Hisako is a whole different person, going on and on for hours about her Favourite books and how they inspired her.

▐ Dreamer
There are some times she stares into space, her head in the clouds and completely detached from reality. She has a mind palace of her own, built out of the stories and adventures she had seen and experienced through books. It's where she retreats to whenever she starts feeling sad, her fantasies a place where she could feel secure.
ImageHisako's birth was perhaps what triggered the unfortunate misadventure that she called her 'relationship with her family'. Her Mother's health always being frail, Hisako's birth was the last straw on her already failing body. Before she took her last breath, she rested her hand on her child's head and named her Hisako, blessing her child with a long life compared to her own. That was the last time Hisako could remember when someone loved her.

A few weeks after that, Hisako was brought back to England by her Father, only staying for her Mother's funeral. Her Father never really forgave her, for reasons Hisako could never blame him for. Her parents were deeply in love, and Hisako took after her Mother with her large eyes and fair skin, her existence was a reminder that her Mother was never coming back. Her Father simply elected to ignoring her presence altogether, refusing to remember anything that reminded him of his late Wife. He changed Hisako's name to Alice the times he chose to look at her, immersing himself in his work and only leaving money for meals on the table.

To say that did not affect Hisako at all would be a lie, but the only one she was willing to tell herself. Learning to adapt quickly, Hisako slowly grew to enjoy reading. It was one of the only ways she could escape her life for a short while and live in the shoes of others, pretending that she would have a happy ending no matter what. It was what kept her strong throughout the times she questioned if her existence was a mistake. Hisako was forced to grow up quickly, to learn how to cook and take care of herself. She was determined to live on for her Mother, keeping her jade pendant with her as a memento. She never got to know her Mother, but she believed the woman loved her, if anyone. It was during that period where she got into writing the moment she knew how to at the age of five. Already perusing Long novels, Hisako was a child prodigy. She read her first series of Detective stories, the Sherlock Holmes series, when she was merely 4, and fell in love with the mystery genre ever since. Her first publications were traced neatly from pencil with a pen she found while she was searching the house, written under the pen name of red robin to hide her identity. She mailed them to a magazine for children at first, and received her first submission fee. That was when something clicked in her mind. Hisako understood from that moment on that she could make a living out of her stories, that she didn't need to stay where she was forever. From that moment on, Hisako made plans for her future, studying on the things she would need for potential escape. It was as though it was your typical 'run away from home' situation, but Hisako was serious.

She decided to move out once she reached the age of 16, insisting that she would live independently and rid her Father of her burden. Hisako had already planned most things out, her novels receiving quite a lot of fame, enough to support her living expenses. However, one thing she has not expected is the things going on in the city. Once she heard of the clans, Hisako wanted to join one herself, choosing the JUNGLE clan for their hacker identity and mysterious background. She picked up the ropes easily, quickly rising up the ranks as a clansman. Currently staying with Ketsu when she was offered a place after not being able to find another residence, Hisako is still eagerly trying to find the identity of the JUNGLE king.

So begins...

5:45 AM | October 1st | Greater Tokyo Area

As the sun rose over Shizume city and the rest of Tokyo, the city had begun to wake up from it's slumber. It's residents, getting ready to begin their daily grind through their 9 to 5 jobs. Some already there, having stayed the night struggling to finish the heavy workload assigned to them. Others, of less orthodox professions, mucking around in the streets or on their way to school. However, for those who have managed become intertwined with the seven Kings residing in the city, the day had a more solemn meaning.

Marking exactly two weeks after the death of the former peacekeeper, a small ceremony was to be held to honor the dead King before his burial. Though few would be in attendance, too busy fighting among each other as to who the culprit of his, and other recent deaths was.

However, while they may be able to determine how their days will go, the security of their future is no longer certain. What may seem like an irrelevant decision at the moment, could very well mean whether or not more blood is spilled.

YUKIMURA HISAKO

Hisako hated funerals. She had a deep rooted distaste for them, their sombre atmosphere and sadness emitting from every corner. But most of all she was afraid to face the undeniable fact of the sheer briefness of human existence. That and the fact that it reminded her too much of her mother's death. Alright, mostly because it reminded her of her mother's death.

She rarely chose to go to any funerals except for the scenarios in her books. Speaking of her books... "J!" Hisako let out a small gasp as she remembered why she was there in the first place. Of course, it was to pay her respects to the late Grey King, but she was mostly excited to see the real face of the mysterious green king. However, it doesn't seem like she's going to find out in time for school. Turquoise eyes flitting from place to place, Hisako tried to take in as much of the crowd as she possibly could, but none of them really struck her much as the person J was supposed to be. The elusive king of the JUNGLE clan must make quite an impact on others, but none of the attendants there gave her the right vibe. Then again, deductions are made by logic, and if the king was as smart as Hisako perceived them to be they would be hiding their identity perfectly from the public eye.

Which means... they won't go into the funeral home at all, and would likely stay outside it! Hisako stepped outside of the ceremony, relieved to catch a breath of fresh air as she prepared to search the near vicinity, only to be distracted by the sight of her classmates. Cyneric, Eli and Mira were all in the same year as her, and Hisako was eager to know them better. The mystery can wait, she had time. All her curiosity was toward her friends at the moment, and Hisako approached them eagerly. They seemed to be already having a conversation, and Hisako arrived just in time to hear the end of it.

"It's nice to see you, Mira, Emi, Cy!" She chirped cheerfully, her eyes studying each of them in turn. "Emi, you look as beautiful as ever." Her Friend had a sense of fashion that was so precise it made Hisako slightly envious. Both her and Mira were such fashionistas, Hisako can't help but wonder how they did it. Compared to her own shirt and black skirt, it was obvious who the more stylish one is. She offered Cyneric a bright smile, tapping her notebook lightly. She couldn't exactly ask where he was going to go today if he skips school with Emi around, she was always a stickler for rules.

"Thing? What event might you be referring to?" Hisako gazed at Mira inquisitively, tilting her head slightly in confusion. "Are you not going to school, Mira Hime?" It was a small nickname she had dubbed her with rather quickly once she found out about Mira's way of working and her attitude toward everyone. She was a fascinating individual in her own right, and despite it being a slightly teasing remark it wasn't one meant to offend her.

Cyneric Ozu

Dialogue ⋄ #666666
Thought ⋄ #CC3300

Others had arrived on the scene. Bodies drifting over the ground like lost sheep. Late-comers? The boy quizzed himself mentally, seeming almost a bit surprised that people could be late to such an event. It is a funeral. However he mostly flinched when hearing a voice approach from behind; a female, from Scepter 4. It caught him off-guard to say the least. ”Oh, uh, yes.” he replied somewhat unsure to the girl, quickly recognizing her from school as well. It was Emi. ”I-I mean no, I wasn't planning on skipping. I was actually just thinking of--”

Despite the small lie that the boy was slowly weaving to save himself from the scary young woman, Cyneric was surprisingly pleased at the sudden sight of another familiar face who rolled onto the scene; or rather she forced herself into it in typical Mira style. Admittedly, he wasn't surprised in the slightest and found the demanding girls antics quite funny, but his face wouldn't betray him. Not here of all places. ”It's fine really, honestly Mira,” he assured the gold clansmen girl, ”I've been here long enough anyway.” Not to mention the fact that he had already successfully avoided some of class thus far, so returning now wouldn't have hurt. Although... he could always just sneak off back to his dorm if he wanted when returning to school, tactically evading the group nearer the time.

I hadn't even thought of that, heh! Cyneric mused internally to himself. With that pleasantly satisfying thought safely tucked away in his mind, the boy quickly turned his attention onto the third arrival that came over, Hisako. ”Nice to see you too,” he quickly greeted, quietly pleased to recognize another face at the gathering. From what he could tell many had come to pay their respects to the former Grey King and Cyneric couldn't help but be a little in awe over it all. ”So you came to the funeral too, Hisa?” The girl was always curious about things so really he ought to have expected to find her there, really. However, it only made sneaking away all that more challenging. Why did all the girls notice everything he did? The boy wondered. ”Actually...”

”...Yeah. Aren't you going to school?” Cyneric repeated the question proposed to the blonde, giving a subtly questioning stare. ”I think the next train is expected in fifteen minutes?” he thought for a moment, glancing to Emi. ”Suppose if we want to catch it we'd best hurry now then. Right, Emi?” Well, at least nobody could accuse him of being difficult. He'd come along quietly for now. After all, he didn't fancy getting on either girls' bad side just yet. ”Hopefully Miu will be alright though. The hard part is over now, isn't it?”

It was apparent to the idol she had caught the subject of her questioning when he least expected it. Seemingly struggling to string together a sentence in his own defense. It would seem that the Scepter 4 leader had him backed into a corner, that is until a certain pigtail wearing nuisance shoved her way between the pair.

The appearance of others didn't come as a surprise to Emi, after all she had researched anyone attending her school with ties to a clan extensively. A challenge to her authority by Ashinaka's resident princess wannabe, was.

"I wasn't trying to come off as insensitive, and I apologize if I did." Shooting the two of them one of her winning smiles before continuing. "I'm sure if your King needs you so much, you'll have your out of school permission papers. It's Scepter 4 policy to do a check."

"Hisa, hey!" Emi welcomed her friend, leaning in for a hug. The addition to the group came as a relief to the idol who was beginning to become quite annoyed. At this rate it seemed like her whole school was going to show up. "Oh, stop it. You look much better." Turning a bright shade of red almost as vibrant as the color of her friends hair. Looking more like a lobster than an idol. Upon remembering how silly she appeared at the somber event, her face only flushed deeper. Taking on a hue that looked even more peculiar the more riled up she got herself. The question asked to her by the only male member of their group served as her saving grace, snapping her out of her self-induced daze.

"Right! Actually, it'd be a bit less than that by now. We'd better get a move on." givinga rough estimate of the time as to avoid stating the fact she had been eyeing her watch since the second she left the church and knew precisely how much time they had. Thirteen minutes and twenty-two seconds exactly. "Miu may be a bit odd, but she's tough. I'm sure she'll be able to pick herself back up soon enough."

"Oh! Hisa, can I look over your history notes? I missed class the other day, so I don't have them."
The rather random thought served more of a purpose than one would expect. Killing two birds with one stone, it did the job of requesting her friend's notes, but also started off the conversation on their way to the station in the least controversial way as possible.

Mira could only offer a mere roll of her shoulders to the boy. ”Hm, fine. If you say so.” Giving a curious look to her fellow peer, the blonde young woman eyed the brown-and-white-haired lad carefully before ultimately shooting a look to the other girl who rolled up at that precise moment, Hisako. It was that oddly fascinating girl from school who she had met, with her noticeable red hair and overall strangeness. Yes, indeed. She was a curious one to watch. ”Why am I not surprised? Everyone seemed to come here today, what luck!”

Flipping her attention between the three figures, the girl spun on her heel and let out a stiff sigh. ”Don’t have a heart-attack, I’m just staying here is all. This funeral is the biggest thing to happen in weeks besides the killings, so I’m obviously going to hang around and make sure it all goes according to plan.” By the way she went on about it you’d almost think she had a part in it, while actually she did not. ”This burial is the event dummy, keep up would you?” The young woman quickly flicked two fingers hard against Hisako’s forehead for effect. ”And anyway, I have my papers or whatever. I even got my mother to contact the school personally on my behalf, so there.” Now, with that said all she would just have to do is hunt down her mother and get the woman to phone up the school as soon as possible. Ah, simple! She'd remember that for her next visit.

Just then she noticed Emi and how their face flushed crimson. ”Oh stop gushing already, this day isn’t about you.” Mira huffed, her twisted ponytails bobbing along with her quick movements. Time was pressing on she realized, and the girl had other things to be busying herself with. ”If anything big happens at school let me know, otherwise I’m sure you can survive without your Princess for a little while,” she said, sensing that the group were about to set off. It wasn’t like she detested school though. Mira was quite a good student in her own way, so long as the teachers could handle her. ”Oh, and behave Ick! I’ll catch you later. Emi, Hisa, ta-ta.”

It never hurt to be decently polite she supposed. Alastair would expect it of me today.’ Mira told herself, easing the tight knot in her throat. I should find him now actually.’ The man was only over the way at least; she could see Alastair still no matter where she stood. With that in mind the young woman took her leave of the group and dutifully headed over to the side of her King. Deep down she wondered how he was handling the whole thing; if it was weighing heavily on him or maybe Alastair was taking it better than imagined? Hope that white-haired fool wasn't giving him too much grief.’ She thought, eyeing that man.

”Oh! Hello Sir,” she kindly greeted when creeping up from the side of Alastair. ”Working late again? You missed the start of it but I can assure you it was a fitting tribute,” crossing both arms against her chest, Mira beamed a slight smile toward the taller figure before reporting, ”Maeda is being surprisingly… surprising, you know. What with his sister I guess I shouldn’t be too overawed by it. Although I have yet to see young Sora about, actually. Otherwise everything is going smoothly, Sir. Even those HOMRA sorts haven't shown their faces yet.”

YUKIMURA HISAKO

Hisako giggled softly as Emi's face turned bright red, patting her friend's shoulder lightly to calm her. "Nonsense, you looked great. I wouldn't expect anything less from an idol of your level of popularity." At Cyneric's words, her attention shifted to him, looking up for a second as she thought. "Miu... ah, right!" She hadn't talked to the girl a lot, but she was looking forward to. As things might turn out now, she might be one of the only hopes of solving the complications among clans. The Monochrome alliance, the three heroes that will fight against the clock as tensions rise and risk of conflict stays all too prominently between the clans. It was all very exciting to watch and record.

Well... excluding the fact that this wasn't a story at all. Part of Hisako knew that only too well. People in her clan were dropping left and right too, the most important loss being that of the right hand. Hisako remembered meeting the woman once, the time she managed to get initiated into the clan. She was a domineering and strong presence, but that that didn't stop Hisako from rambling on for fifteen minutes about how great a Detective Sherlock Holmes was. But she was digressing. The important fact was that people were dying, yet no one from HOMRA had died at all. The grey king had wounds that seemed to be dealt from fire, their right hand was found downstream near the HOMRA territory. There was definitely undeniable evidence to convict them, but it all seemed too convenient to her. A good criminal would never give themselves away this easily, not to leave any obvious clues about themselves. And if the culprit was really inexperienced as to do that, they wouldn't have been able to continue such acts without having being caught.

Unless... it was to stir up a full out war. Of course, everything points to framing HOMRA for everything. Killing two birds with one stone really, finding a scapegoat and stirring up the already present tensions between clans. But what does this criminal stand to gain from an all out war? Maybe it was to use the opportunity for the clans to fight each other and for them to swoop in and take all the benefits for themselves? So far, all the killings are random. The killer is likely just trying to stir things up, they probably chose HOMRA to single out because people are more likely to suspect street thugs compared to the strict Scepter 4 being the source of such acts. They didn't pick their victims because being a serial killer with no pattern or apparent motive was much harder to be caught, but this time...

The death of the peacekeeper was probably a sign that the culprit (or culprits, one can never be too sure) was ready to get serious. What's the best course of action then? To stand there and not give the culprit what he wanted? No, that wasn't possible. That would only mean her friends were in danger and the threat of the JUNGLE clan dying out altogether. Fighting isn't the solution either, despite many in their gang hungering for war already. It's hard to convince the people, especially with such a silent and mysterious king. So she needed J. At least, to get to them, ask them to talk things out. And she still had no leads on where they were except for the fact that Ketsu exchanged letters with them, and that they didn't like her much at all. If not, what else?

Just as Hisako's eyes were clouding over, completely lost herself in thought, she felt a pain hit her forehead, causing her to yelp instinctively and flinch.

"Oww..." Hisako whined a little as her forehead stung from the flick Mira gave her, a small pout forming as she looked at Mira with an exaggerated expression of offence, one that melted into a smile as she cheered up. "You planned something for the funeral?" Her eyes brightened with curiosity, tilting her head slightly to the side. However, before she could inquire any further Mira continued on, telling them to inform her if anything big happened in school before bidding them farewell. "I will! Goodbye!" Hisako would've liked to stay there and talk more, but there was Cyneric and Emi, both interesting individuals that she would like to find out more about. The world was just bursting with fascinating things to observe and solve!

Just then, Emi asked her about the history notes for the lesson she missed that day. Nodding, she quickly picked up on her friend's eagerness to change the subject to brighter tones. "Of course! Just..." Leaning toward her, Hisako whispered in her ear. "Do me a favour, please give me information about J? Your clan is hunting them down, right?" Pulling away, she gave Emi a bright smile, clasping her hands in front of her chest in an almost pleading fashion.

Cyneric Ozu

Dialogue ⋄ #666666
Thought ⋄ #CC3300

Mira seemed really invested in the funeral. Of course Cyneric couldn't really understand why beyond the simple fact that the girl was only absorbing the attention from it all, right? That was very typical of her and possibly it was why he appreciated Mira in his own confusing way. ”That's good of you to do that Mira.” And even more so he knew how very unlikely it was for the blonde to have acquired parental consent to skip class; but Cyneric left it be. It was time to go and the girls were already making their ways. ”Oh, yes. Bye Mira.” he said a tad sheepishly, watching the girl carry on her way towards what appeared to be her King, Alastair Payne.

But time was pressing along according to Emi and Cyneric quickly turned about towards the two other girls. ”Oh, right.” His tone was hardly enthusiastic. Emi had asked Hisako about her history notes from the day before, he figured, and the boy could only whisper somewhat surprisingly to himself, ”We had history?” It wasn't like he could remember. The boy probably wasn't even there. Honestly he hadn't even thought about what things he'd need for class let alone what lesson he was actually attending. Cyneric tried to make himself care but in the end he just couldn't. The whole 'murder business' was just far too distracting and way more interesting, even if it did center on death. Who's to say another King won't die? It was a common thought that tugged at his mind, especially as the accusation directly affected him. But then again... there was always that niggling little comeback in his head.

Ever since becoming King getting hurt just seems more difficult now. I haven't aged nor changed really, maybe I can't actually die? It was a frightening reality, but fascinating all the same. Was he safe or wasn't he? From what he had learned of the former Silver King it appeared as if he might not be a victim anytime soon. But if Cyneric just upped and lost his power overnight then it would certainly be a whole different situation. At the very least I can use this talent in finding the real killer. It's been helping so far. He couldn't deny that being Silver King benefited him greatly as far as playing detective went, even if he tried not to let it be known openly as much; however it was most likely the very reason he was also in potential danger when he thought about it. Just who is the King murderer?

Cyneric was more or less in a world of his own by then. Obediently following the two girls lead, he was physically there but not mentally, not completely. The boy had partially spaced out while answering his own thoughts. Maybe Mira might find out something while I'm gone? She's very persistent. He thought, secretly amused. Glad she's on our side. Feeling a cool breeze just then the boy shuddered and hunched his shoulders a little, small ends of hair swaying slightly in the gentle wind. Can't wait it get back to my dorm, it's warmer there. I can have some tea. That thought alone was enough to keep him going at least, even if he secretly cursed himself for not bringing a coat. Yet despite having attended a funeral the boy wasn't all that sad, even if he did look it slightly. But that was normal.

Some tea and investigating, sounds nice. Cyneric was almost surprised he hadn't walked into anyone yet. He should really focus now.

"So, the princess has been attending to Ikeda-san? Of course, I would not expect anything less of the face of Scepter 4. It is in our duty to serve those we have failed to protect from such unnecessary evils in every way that we are capable. However, there is absolutely not a chance that my lack of appearance was missed by her intelligent eye - we go to her, Morizakawa-san, not because we question her observational prowess, but to repent for the disgraceful way I have represented Scepter 4 on this day! Even by the chance she is unaware, it is only right that we own up to our wrongdoings!"

Riku finished his dramatic speech with his index finger held high up in the air, a foot up on the hood of a car and a hand on his hip. His expression offset the ridiculous pose by appearing completely devoid of any sort of hilarity and instead looked dead-serious. His pointing finger retracted into a tight fist and he brought it down in line with his nose, glaring at it with flaming intensity.

"And hopefully, achieve justice for the wrongs that one did against me that caused such a respected clansman like myself to end up in this sorry position on such an important, melancholy day..." he muttered loud enough for anyone listening really intently to hear, hair prickling up on his neck as his terrifying aura scared even himself. The dangerous energy that surrounded him completely drained as he got off the car and turned to Nao, bowing deeply.

"I apologise for what you have witnessed here today. It is a wonderful morning, or would be if -" he looked up, realised Nao was already walking, straightened in a hurry and fast walked his way over to assume the lead. "So eager, Morizakawa-san? Of course, it is an admired quality. To Emi-chan!"

They didn't have to walk far to find her. Probably because as while they were walking towards the funeral, she and her pupils were walking in the opposite direction - away from it. The sight of the Silver King (looking as dazed out as ever) and <JUNGLE>'s personal detective (looking as intrigued as ever) on either side of the idol immediately set off sirens in Riku's mind. It wasn't because the man particularly disliked either of them (well, Hisako was part of a hacker group run by a person they were hunting, something that he often wondered about - how his usually strict king had managed to see past that and befriend the girl was beyond him), but Nao + kids belonging to other clans were not an enjoyable mix, especially for the one acting as referee. He didn't focus on that issue for long, however, as his stare was fixated on Emi; at the way she held herself like she was about to spring into dance, her smile that hid a song and her lively, big blue eyes that were flitting over to look in his direction.

"Yukimura-san, Ozu-san, good morning to you both. I apologise for the abruptness of my intrusion. Emi-chan, I apologise for not being at your side sooner!" Riku jogged up to them and bowed his head slightly at Emi's companions, then suddenly latched onto the girl's shoulders with a strong, but not rough, grip. His tired eyes gazed into hers meaningfully, scanning for any sign of redness that could suggest she had been crying. Thankfully, there were none, and he took a step away and bowed so low his glasses nearly slid off. "I must elaborate, of course. All of the Gensai family should have all been present at this event however I, the Right Hand, gave into the sin of sloth and because of that moment of weakness I have failed to positively represent my clan. I, Gensai Riku of Scepter 4, acknowledge and accept my mistakes and will accept whatever punishment you see fit."

Not to mention he had promised his friend he'd be there in attendance, but that was a personal matter he need not delve into while in the presence of other, non-blue clansmen. Right now, the reputation of Scepter 4 was on the agenda. HOMRA not showing up to the Grey King's funeral was one thing - but the Right Hand of the respected Scepter 4? What sort of uncouth madness was that!?

"So, the princess has been attending to Ikeda-san? Of course, I would not expect anything less of the face of Scepter 4. It is in our duty to serve those we have failed to protect from such unnecessary evils in every way that we are capable. However, there is absolutely not a chance that my lack of appearance was missed by her intelligent eye - we go to her, Morizakawa-san, not because we question her observational prowess, but to repent for the disgraceful way I have represented Scepter 4 on this day! Even by the chance she is unaware, it is only right that we own up to our wrongdoings!"

No trace of the confusion Nao felt was revealed on his face as the complicated words passed over his head like water dropping over a waterfall... So... We head to Tanabata-sama first, since she'll notice that Riku is missing, and then we apologise for being late? And even if she didn't know we were late we apologise anyway.... I think. That is what he's saying, right?

... Well, he's definitely asking whether Tanabata-sama is with Ikeda-san.... She's the new Grey King now, right? I think.

"...Yes. I mean yes!" Nao smiled brightly, deciding to play it safe by answering what he definitely knew Riku had asked. "Tanabata-san is with Ikeda-san!" He said cheerfully over Riku's mutterings, subtly edging away from Riku and his dark aura. Nao had learnt from experience that it was best to stay away from people when they were angry (angry people were more likely to resort to violence and throw things), and he was not likely to go against that instinct any time soon. That urge only increased when Riku started to bow to him.

Nao froze. What the fuck.

"I apologise-"

I'M GETTING OUT OF HERE. No way was he dealing with this. Nao whirled and walked swiftly away from Riku in a way that was more like a run than a walk, his heart beating loudly in his chest with alarm. If it were an action movie, Riku would be the ticking bomb and Nao would be the guy running for the hills before the explosion began. His hero apologising to him?! Inconceivable! Normally it was the other way around. It was only a few seconds later that Nao realised that the sudden abrupt leave could have been taken as rude, but fortunately it seemed that Riku hadn't taken any offence, stopping mid speech and catching up with him. In fact, he spoke on, praising Nao's eagerness to head towards Emi.

Yes, he was eager. Eager to run like a coward for being apologised to, that is.

A few minutes later, they met up with Emi, Miu and Cyneric. Nao stood to attention behind Riku, giving a polite greeting towards Emi. "Good afternoon, Tanabata-sama! I've brought Riku-san with me, as you can see!" he smiled brightly at her, looking the picture of a child pleased with himself at accomplishing an errand. "I'm sorry we're late!"

Then he stood back and stayed as quiet and out of sight as Riku fussed over Emi. He gave a small nod and smile to Cyneric, unsure how to react - in public, Nao found it easier to act as if he didn't know the Silver King. For one thing, Riku and Emi might not approve. And for another, it was easier to just pretend that they didn't know each other, although they fought regularly - considering their odd schedules, they didn't really met that often.

However, it was the first time they were meeting each other at a funeral in front of Sceptre 4 and the clans, where positions actually mattered. Nao didn't know how much Riku and Emi and the others knew about him sparring with some of the other clan members, but he wasn't willing for them to find out that he had been sparring with the Silver King for information and fun after they had met god knows where. Riku would scold him for fighting such a powerful figurehead, Emi would scold him and look at him disapprovingly, he might get locked up for sparring with someone as high in status as a King.... the possibilities were endless and, as far as Nao was concerned, not likely to happen so long as it wasn't addressed in public. The less they knew, the better.

It was with this in mind when Nao faced them with a greeting. "Good afternoon, Ozu-san! He said brightly, injecting a little respect into his tone that normally wasn't there when he talked with Cyneric. He smiled vapidly, as if it were the first time they were meeting. "Good afternoon, Hisako-san! Nao smiled cheerfully at Hisako, giving a respectful nod to her just as he had with Emi. She was Emi's friend, and it paid to be nice to the person who was teaching him how to read.

It also bought him time to think of what to say to Cyneric. shitballs on a stick what should I say that won't tip anyone off?! Name, age, rank, uh - oh wait. They already know that I know Cyneric. Probably. Uh... Nao's mind raced for options.

Oh. Right! There's always that option. Smiling smoothly, Nao waited until the others finished their conversation before turning to them with a question.

"Would any of you like me to get a drink for you?" Nao asked politely, a courteous smile beaming on his face. Inwardly, he was screaming 'please say yes pleasepleaseplease let me get out of here before I mess up please' and praying to anyone (who had suspiciously familiar glasses and hair) that he'd be able to escape as soon as he possibly could. "Or do any of you want something to eat? I can get some if you want!" He asked eagerly. Anything to get out of here before awkward questions were asked.

Emi let out a quiet laugh as Hisa leaned in to tell her the cost of her notes. Her friend was a bit too curious for her own good. The idol swore that if curiosity killed people like it did cats, the girl would have died more times than anyone could count. "We are, but I can't exactly go around giving out classified information like that, you know? It's not like we have much in the way information on them anyways, it's like chasing Bigfoot." Saying no to the eager looking girl broke Emi's heart a little, feeling as if she had just kicked a puppy. "Well, I guess it wouldn't be that big a deal if you stopped by headquarters and take a look at the case file as long as you share anything you have on J with us."

They group was interrupted by the arrival of two of Scepter Four's finest. Emi had been expecting them to show up, but hadn't seen them at all during the funeral. Maybe they were sitting towards the back? The bawling Grey King had her undivided attention for most of the event, so they could have just as easily be lurking a few feet behind her and she wouldn't have noticed. Her right hand had bowled through the dissipating group of funeral goers. Judging by his expression, the King could tell something was weighing on her friend. The hands that descended on her shoulders confirmed her theory. "Riku-chi, it's fine. You're running yourself ragged, I'm sure you needed the rest." A smile made it's home on her face as she assured her right hand that it really wasn't a big deal. Emi was starting to worry about him. Riku had always been a hard worker, but things were getting out of hand. Maybe I should find him an assistant? No, I doubt he would accept them. It would just seem like I think he's not capable enough.

While the girl was busy trying to soothe the man, she had completely neglected the younger half of the duo. Was he feeling alright? He seemed a little anxious. Maybe he just wasn't feeling well? "Nao-chan, don't worry about it. We were actually just heading back to school, so we don't have much time for snacks." Wriggling away from Riku's grip, she gave the boy a pat on the head, messing up his hair a bit in the process.

Mornings at the Arizume apartment complex weren't the most eventful, at least not on the days when Hiro actually had enough motivation to get up early and go to school. On most days him and the twins would sleep until Rou woke them up, but today, Hiro had a test that couldn't be taken at home, so he got up at seven and made breakfast, leaving leftovers for everyone else. XX
The apartment was quiet, as Rou and the twins were both still asleep and neither Jun nor Daisuke were home at the time. It would definitely be much livelier if the two of them were home. It was a known fact in the family that Jun and Daisuke were quite possibly the two most obnoxious people on the planet when they were together, though they were also everyone's relationship goal. XX
When Hiro exited the apartment complex, he was not surprised to find another tenant, Aonagi Haruka, waiting for him outside. They hardly knew each other at all, but whenever Hiro attended school, they would walk there and back together without any dialogue whatsoever. It was calming, if Hiro was honest. XX
Haku waved with a smile and Hiro gave a curt not in return, taking the lead as the two headed off toward the train station that led to Ashinaka Academy. Hiro still thought it odd that the school was on its own island, as the students and staff could easily become stranded if the bridge were to malfunction or get destroyed for whatever reason, though he never thought on it too much. XX
While he and Haku sat reading their respective books on the train, Hiro thought about the Grey King and the funeral that would be taking place within a few hours. Rou, Cora, and Casper would all be attending, and they had invited Hiro as well but he had turned down the offer simply because he knew if he went he would draw attention to them, which wasn't the most fun. XX
Hiro knew they would be alright - after all, what could happen at a funeral? But he still worried, putting a decent amount of effort into making sure it didn't show. The train stopped, and Hiro snapped his book shut, following Haku to class and taking his seat in comfortable silence, dreading the test to come. XXX
The test itself passed agonizingly slowly, though the moment it was over, the rest of Hiro's morning classes flew by in what seemed like only a few minutes. As the lunch bell rang, Hiro's thoughts wandered back to the funeral that would likely have come to a close by now. He wondered if Rou and the twins were already home, or if they'd stayed behind to comfort other attendees. XXX
As the rest of the class got louder and more rambunctious, Hiro gathered up his lunch and the newest Red Robin novel he'd borrowed from the library, and headed out of the building to the courtyard, where no one really ever went except for him. The reason people didn't go there was likely because he did, but Hiro couldn't have cared less. It meant he could have peace and quiet. XX
Hiro continued to follow thoughts of the funeral as he ate. He didn't know much about it, other than that the funeral was for the now-former Grey King who had apparently been good friends with Rou. Daisuke had told them about the new Grey King, a really nice young woman named Ikeda Miu, and explained the murders that had been happening around the city as of late. XXX
Daisuke said the only casualties have been members of one of the clans...so does that mean we're in danger too? I suppose not, since we technically aren't an official clan... His train of thought was interrupted by faint voices, and Hiro turned towards the school's entrance to find Hisako, Emi, and Cyneric arriving. He already knew that Emi and Cyneric were both Kings, so he could only assume that Hisako was part of a clan, though which one he didn't know. XXX
Hiro let out a sigh, realizing that Emi would likely heckle him for missing school if she noticed he was there, and promptly packed up his things, hoping to escape the scene before the Student Council President caught sight of him. XX

The second Emi touched Nao's hair, Nao froze, whole body stilling unnaturally as if he were a character on tv and someone had pressed the pause button. But it only lasted less than an instant - in a second he was pulling back, blinking in surprise and smiling as if nothing was wrong, although his eyes held a bit of irritation and confusion. That moment had happened so fast that anybody not looking would have missed it, and anybody looking wouldn't have realised it unless they were specifically looking for it. Nao fell back a couple of steps, smile hiding the torment going on in his head.

First - irritation. Emi had touched his hair. Repeat - Emi had ruffled his hair like a child (alright, he was thirteen - or fourteen, who knows - but he wasn't a child! He was a preteen! Not a child!) and his ponytail, as perfect as he could tie it as taught by Naoko during the past year, was now.... not perfect. What if Riku noticed? Riku liked perfection! And as his saviour was good at being perfect Nao was doing his best to emulate him and now it was gone.

And did Nao mention that he was being treated like a child? Which he wasn't - he had done things no kid should do, which meant he wasn't a kid like everyone thought he was! So there!

Second - it actually felt kinda... good. Like praise. Weird. Nao resisted the urge to reach a hand up to his head to check his hair- not yet.

Third...

Calm down, heart. She's the Blue King. She's not... them. Being pat on the head is ok and not a threat.

"Ok!" Nao chirped cheerfully instead. Damn, his escape path was gone.... Or maybe not. Nao took a deep breath, shoulders tensing as he steeled himself. "But you might get hungry on the way, so I'll see if i can take some for you before you go!" He said brightly, beaming his biggest sincerest smile, and with that he turned tail and walked towards the snack area as fast as he could without looking like he was running. "I'm also hungry, so I'll get some for myself too!" He said cheerfully behind his shoulder, trying not to think of whether he was going to get punished for taking the initiative for this step. It was only after he was out of sight and a good time away that Nao slowed to a normal walking pace, allowing the smile to drop from his face with a smile.

It had taken a bit long, but Nao had eventually learnt that it was ok to ask for things, ok to eat more than what he needed to survive, ok to just... y'know. Ask shit. Talk back. But this was new territory, and it was still a bit nervewracking testing the boundaries.

A lot of things were nervewracking, if Nao had the will to admit it.

Not the time, however. Bringing his hands up to his hair with a sigh, Nao neatened his ponytail the best he could with only his hands for a comb. Then he went to grab snacks - small cakes, peanuts, small finger sandwhiches. There were a few left over, and Nao wasted no time loading some into a convenient plastic bag for takeaway, stuffing a few into his cheeks too. He hadn't been kidding about wanting some himself. Chewing thoughtfully on a chocolate roll (mmmchocolate), Nao was making his way back when a man flung his arms wide, nearly smacking him in the face.

Almost instinctively, Nao dodged back, hands raising up and curling into fists as he prepared himself for a punch - but no, it was just a man gesturing expressively to his friends, letting out a hearty roar of laughter. Even as Nao watched they were already fading away into the crowd. With a frown, Nao dropped his hands - only to realise that he had accidentally knocked someone over when he had taken a flashstep back.

Whoops.

He looked down. What he saw was a small child with brown hair - a girl around a head shorter than him who looked familiar. Taking a step back, Nao's eyebrows wrinkled. "Sorry, for knocking you over," he said, sounding only a little apologetic. He had bumped into her, after all. "Watch where you're going next time, please," he added, only remembering to use 'please' at the last moment. Tucking the plastic bag of snacks into his belt as if it were a strap on pouch, Nao hesitated a bit before bringing a hand out towards her for the girl to take.

Helping people up was what Riku would have done, after all.
