a character in “Kalani Magica”, as played by Magus1108

Description

Judith Lillian Cohen

Basics

Judith Lillian Cohen

Nickname(s)

Her entire family calls her 'Judy', for the most part. Judith also heavily encourages her friends, mainly Margaret, to call her 'Judy' as well.

Age

14

Gender

Female

Sexuality

Lesbian; her parents know, but Judith hasn't quite gotten the courage to tell anyone else. Especially Margaret.

Image

Appearance

Hair

Judith's hair is completely natural. Yes, that means that her hair color is naturally green. Don't think about it too hard.

Eyes

Judith used to wear contacts, but once she became a Puella Magi, her eyesight was pretty much fixed up.

Markings

A Puella Magi marking on the nail of her left middle finger.

Build

Judith is pretty average in build. Maybe a bit below average. Before she was a Puella Magi, Judith wasn't the most physical active person around.

Clothes

Judith loves to wear very frilly and girly clothes. She particularly likes to wear a blouse and skirt combo. Overall she likes to dress prettily.

Accessories

Judith has her Soul Gem always on her, in the shape of an nondescript ring on her right hand. She also has a large bow she always ties up with her hair that she rarely goes without.

Weapons

As a Puella Magi, Judith wields a wicked and fearsome scythe. It can cut through anything, and she can increase its size to the height of a skyscraper.

Skills

Natural Skills

Judith is a fast learner; once she brings her mind to learn a new skill or some such thing, it doesn't take her long to get a good hold over it. She's also rather good at getting a read of other people's moods

Learned Skills

Judith took a crash course in fighting once she became a Puella Magi, as well as how to properly wield and use her scythe in battle. Judith also learned how to surf when she was young.

Weaknesses

Judith can be very emotional at times, which is both a blessing and a curse. Judith is also easy to embarrass, much to her consternation.

Image

Mentality

Quirks

Judith is a very touchy-feely girl, and she gets a little too close for comfort for some people.

Likes

  • Margaret
  • Yuubey
  • Her little sister Ruth
  • Her family in general
  • Being a Puella Magi

Dislikes

  • Stupid boys
  • Dogs
  • Guns
  • Bullying
  • Tests

Fears

Judith has an irrational fear of dogs, for one reason or another. She doesn't really like to be around them. Judith also has an underlying fear of losing her sister Ruth again, so she's very protective of her. And Judith is worried that Margaret might get hurt real badly one day, while out on a Witch hunt.

Personality

Judith is a very bubbly and energetic young girl, with a smile always on her face. She takes great joy out of life, and is always eager to make new friends and meet new people. She loves her life, and she especially loves the people around her.

Personal Life

Significant Relationships

Judith is very close and attached to her family, of course. She loves her parents, and is especially proud of her father, who's an astronaut working on the International Space Station. Judith also adores and loves her little sister Ruth, and thinks the world of her. In fact, it was her original loss of Ruth that ended up making Judith into a Puella Magi.

Judith also has a new best friend, that she acquired after making her Contract: Margaret Faust, a veteran Puella Magi. Judith adores Margaret, and thinks of her as the bestest friend ever, and best sempai she could ever have; in fact, Judith is always trying to do everything she can to please Margaret and make her proud. Judith has lost touch with many of her old friends in the past year, so her new friendship with Margaret really cheered her up and has made her quite happy. Recently, however, Judith's feelings toward Margaret have...grown, in a sense.

Judith isn't quite sure when it happened, but she's fully realized now that she's completely in love with Margaret Faust. She's crushing on her mad, and despite her attempts at hiding her new feelings, she's been quite obvious about her crush. She's taken to staring at Margaret when she thinks she isn't looking, especially when Margaret's in her Puella Magi outfit, she's become even more affectionate and touchy-feely with her, and she's taken to blushing when in Margaret's presence. Judith is a bit scared of her new feelings, but at the same time, she can't help them. Love is love, after all.

Family

Judith has two parents and a little sister. They are, respectively, Jeremiah Cohen, her astronaut father; Mary Cohen, her reporter mother; and Ruth Cohen, her adorable little sister.

History

Judith grew up as a normal girl on Kalani Island, more or less, and she was more than content to live out her days in relative peace. Then...tragedy struck. Her ten year old sister Ruth, alongside many other innocent teachers and students, died during a school shooting. Judith was crushed, of course, and grew into deep despair with the death of her sister. A month passed, and then...her salvation came.

A mysterious entity called Yuubey approached her, and asked her to make a Contract with her; in exchange for becoming a Puella Magi and fighting evil Witches, he would grant her one Wish, whatever it may be.

Judith jumped at the chance, of course, and eagerly agreed to become a Puella Magi, if it meant bringing back her sister. She didn't quite rush into things, however; she knew better than to simply wish Ruth back to life. People already knew she was dead, and would be shocked, to say the least, to see a dead girl among the living again. So, after thinking about it long and hard, Judith came up with her Wish. It was quite simple, and it would save the lives of both her sister, and everyone else who had died that day in the school shooting.

She erased the shooter from existence. And thus, with his absence, her sister was brought back to life.

Judith was overjoyed to have her little sister back, and soon she was back to her old, energetic self. Not long after becoming a Puella Magi, she encountered a fellow Magical Girl named Margaret Faust. The two of them soon stuck up a connection, and Margaret agreed to take Judith under her wing. In the six months that have passed since then, Judith has been Margaret's eager partner, ready and willing to fight against the Witches that plague Kalani Island.

Image

Magical Girl Outfit

Judith's Magical Girl outfit is fairly simplistic. It's a long, flowing, purple cloak that largely encompasses her entire body. It goes fairly well with her whole 'grim reaper' ensemble, to say the least. On another note, Judith used to be entirely naked under that cloak, which she did not know until she checked under the hood, so to speak. Now, however, Judith has added magical underwear underneath her cloak, just so she isn't entirely naked under that thing.

Judith's transformation into her Puella Magi gear is fairly simple as well. She just begins her transformation, and the cloak forms around her body until it's completely there. And, as an additional note, Judith's Soul Gem is embedded into her skin, near the center of her neck, which is thankfully covered up by the collar of her cloak.

Margaret

"Yes, that sounds fun." Margaret replied, her hands moving automatically as she continued to prepare their meal, surgeon's hands, her mother had called them. She had actually once considered that as a possible career option in the future, though the fact that she probably wasn't going to live that long meant that she no longer did.

Of course, again, that was not currently relevant. Geez, thinking on it, which of course was precisely what she'd been trying not to do, it occurred to Margaret that she'd become an extremely morbid person.

"Also, if you'll have time later, with homework and all, I'd like to see about taking those two from yesterday out with us this evening. The smaller one didn't seem to fully grasp the reality of it, and I don't want her doing anything rash." Margaret deliberately avoided the use of the word 'hunting'. They were, after all in Judith's home, and she didn't want to risk the possibility of Ruth overhearing.

As for the idea itself, it was, simply put, a blatant attempt to scare Chiyo out of her initial delight, and reaffirm Aolani's misgivings. Cruel? Perhaps, but kinder than the possible alternatives. Of course, this wasn't how she'd present the idea to Judith, but that was the purpose.

"That sounds good to me, Margie!" Judith beamed, giving her friend a cheery smile. "It'll be nice to see Aolani and Chiyo again. Sounds like a good plan to me!"

And it truly did! Judith was very hopeful about making friends with the two potential Puella Magi, and spending more time with them would help in that goal. It'd also be a good idea to show them more about their duties as a Puella Magi, too; that way, the other girls would have a good idea of what they might be getting into, should they decide to become Magical Girls like them.

Which, if Judith were honest, she hoped they would. The idea of having two more partners around pleased her quite a bit; it'd be very, very nice to have more Puella Magi on Kalani to help them keep the Witch population down. And with more Magical Girls around, it'd be easier to mop up Witches too, which meant that they could have more free time too!

Judith quite liked the thought of that.

"Alright then," Margaret replied, "we should give them a call sometime this morning to make sure they can make it." But what if only one of them could come along? Arguably that might be easier, convincing one person instead of two, but which would be the better theoretical 'one'?

Never mind that. No use weighing situations one cannot choose between against one-another. What might be better to consider would be the possible ways to scare the two off from becoming Puella Magi.

"Yours are done, by the way." she added, handing Judith a plate with her just-finished pancakes, while pouring the batter for the next batch. That was the only unfortunate thing about making pancakes this way in particular; you could only make one per pan, and only use one pan per burner. Margaret didn't mind though, it made for more time to talk.

Judith

"That sounds like a good idea. And thanks, Margie!" Judith cheerily replied, taking her plate. She put it aside for the moment, willing to wait for Margie to fix her own first before eating.

A few seconds later, Ruth stumbled into the room, blinking blearily at her older sister. The younger girl had clearly just woken up, given the fact she was still in her pajamas, and her hair stuck out wildly.

"Good morning Ruth!" the green-haired Puella Magi greeted, smiling brightly at her little sister. She was surprised Ruth was up this early...but if she knew her sister, there was only one reason for that.

"I smell pancakes." Ruth bluntly stated, confirming Judith's suspicions.

"Margie will fix you some in just a minute, Ruth. You can wait in the dining room in the meanwhile," the older girl replied.

Mollified by that, Ruth gave a brisk nod and shambled out of the kitchen. After a moment, Judith burst into giggles.

"She's so cute when she's grumpy in the mornings," she commented, smiling widely.

Margaret

The black-haired Puella Magi nodded at her underclassman's remark, with a little grin of her own. "Indeed, Hers should be done momentarily, so there's no need to worry on that count." There wasn't really anything Margaret could do to speed the process along, but her statement was true enough. "In the meantime, I meant to ask, how has school been for you lately?"

That was a normal question, right? That's what normal friends discussed in place of battlefield tactics and most fruitful hunting grounds. At least, Margaret was pretty sure it was. Mind you, the two were not exactly normal friends, having to fight eldritch monsters to avoid becoming them, but even Margaret knew that friends needed to be able to talk about more than just combat, and she wanted very much to be a good friend to Judith... even if it was sometimes hard to remember exactly how to go about it.

Yes, it had occurred to Margaret that she might be acting a bit too distantly as of late, not physically or socially, but perhaps a little emotionally. Well, that needed to be amended as best and as quickly as possible.

Having finished making Ruth's share of the pancakes and flipping the onto a plate, Margaret turned to her best friend and Puella Magi apprentice-of-sorts. "There we are, hers are done. I'll just finish mine and put everything back and the I'll join you."

Judith

"In the meantime, I meant to ask, how has school been for you lately?"

"It's been going good, Margie!" Judith eagerly beamed, pleased to hear her friend ask her such a question.

Things had been going good, for that matter. While not exactly a studious pupil, nor one of the brightest people in the school, Judith did fairly well in her classes, making slightly above-average marks in most of her tests and homework. She struggled a bit in science sometimes, as she found it rather hard to wrap her head around such a difficult subject, but she managed to scrape by.

...Granted, she had cheated on her last science test last Friday by using her Invisibility powers. Heh. A bit of an...abuse of her abilities, b-but it was for a good cause! A-and it wasn't like anyone would ever know...

Judith felt herself blush a little, a bit embarrassed about the partially shameful memory. Hoping to put that subject out of her mind, she went on.

"I, uh, got a good grade on Mr. Hendrick's test last Friday, and we're starting a really fun project in Miss Olson's art class. So school's going great for me so far, Margie! How about you?"

While Margaret considered her answer, she finished Ruth's set of pancakes. "There we are, hers are done. I'll just finish mine and put everything back and the I'll join you."

Judith nodded, taking the plate of pancakes. After getting her sister a glass of orange juice, she left the kitchen briefly, going into the dining room to give Ruth her breakfast. She settled the drink and food in front of the still somewhat sleepy girl, who perked up immediately at the sight.

Ruth grabbed a fork, ready to dig in, but her green-haired older sister stopped her, lightly admonishing her by flicking her forehead. "Don't be impolite, Ruth! Wait until Margie and I are in here with our food before we start to eat, okay? And we still have to say prayer too, don't forget."

The purple-haired, bespectacled girl grumbled, shooting her older sibling a halfhearted glare, but nodded all the same.

With that settled, Judith ventured back into the kitchen, more than willing to wait on Margie to finish up her portion of the pancakes, and to continue their conversation.

Margaret finished making her own breakfast in fairly short order as well, answering Judith as she she did. "I'm glad. As for myself, I've been doing well enough. I'd like to be doing better, but I could certainly be doing worse." Margaret had actually been doing extremely well in school considering the fact that she rarely if ever studied. Between keeping track of Yuubey and tending to her duties as the city's primary Puella Magi, she rarely found the time, and, to be honest, she didn't really think that exemplary grades would be of much use to her, considering the average life expectancy of Magical Girls.

Before the pair went to the dinning room to eat, Margaret added, "Speaking of studies, there was something I wanted to talk to you about later, when we have time." Hopefully Judith would pick up on what she meant, since Margaret was not about to say anything that could possibly tip Ruth off to the existence of magic.

Judith

"Speaking of studies, there was something I wanted to talk to you about later, when we have time."

Judith furrowed her brow in brief confusion, before understanding dawned in her eyes. She nodded to Margaret, the message conveyed. She herself was reluctant to ever let her little sister find out about her double-life; she'd fret endlessly if Ruth ever became a Magical Girl herself. It was such a dangerous job, and she cared so much about her sister. Not to mention she'd...well...

After Yuubey had granted her Wish, Judith had vowed that nothing like that would ever happen to Ruth again. Her little sister had been granted a second chance at life, and she wasn't about to jeopardize that in the slightest.

Judith followed Margie into the dining room, taking a seat across from her friend, and next to her sister. Ruth perked up at seeing them sit down, and grabbed her fork to eat. Judith, however, gave her hand a little swat, frowning disapprovingly at the little girl. "Ruth...prayers first, then breakfast. Okay?"

Ruth rolled her eyes, grumbling under her breath, but complied in the end. The two sisters bowed their heads, closed their eyes, and clasped their hands. The two of them spoke a brief prayer.

"Barukh ata Adonai Eloheinu melekh ha'olam shehakol niyah bidvaro. Amen."

Their prayers spoken, Ruth immediately started to eat, grabbing her fork and spearing her pancakes mere moments after the end of the prayer. Judith shook her head, bemused by her sister's antics, but started eating herself. Though perhaps without the eagerness Ruth possessed.

While she and her sister were Jewish, they weren't all that devout. In fact, their family was close to secular, if anything else. Sure, they attended Synagogue now and again, mainly for special occasions, and celebrated Hanukkah and other Jewish holidays. But they weren't particularly faithful and devout in the Hebrew religion.

That didn't mean that Judith wasn't respectful of her people's culture and tradition, however. From a young age, she and Ruth had been taught the history of their people, and their parents had taught them how to speak Hebrew. Judith knew Ruth herself was a bit more flippant about all this stuff, but she didn't share the same opinion. If there was anything about her little sister that irked Judith, it was her indifferent attitude to their people and their culture. Ruth merely went through the motions, and only did that when prodded. Whereas Judith herself, even if she didn't necessarily believe in the God of the Torah, did respect and admire the traditions and way of life of her people.

Which was why, in instances like this, she made Ruth recite her prayers, even if it was mere lip-service from her. Judith hoped that one day, her little sister might gain more of an appreciation for being Jewish and for their culture, but in the meantime she was more than willing to make her sister toe the line, as it were. It was only polite, after all! And their parents had raised them, or tried to in the case of Ruth, to be respectful and appreciative of their culture and the things they did. Not to mention she felt a certain...obligation to be adherent to the tenants of her people, as it were.

While it wasn't talked about much in her immediate family, Judith knew that she had a great-grandmother who had survived the Holocaust. And they'd also lost other distant, extended family in Europe during that horrible time. So Judith felt it would be distasteful to their memories if she or Ruth stopped trying to keep the traditions of their people alive.

A few seconds after putting that tangent to rest, Judith paused in her eating, looking up at Margaret. Her face blushed a little, as she realized Margaret had sat through their short prayer and all. The younger Puella Magi rarely ate with Margaret AND Ruth at the same time, and when she did eat with her best friend, she usually said her prayers silently, so she wouldn't disturb Margie or anything. She'd merely said them aloud with Ruth for her sister's benefit.

She knew that Margaret wasn't that devout of a Catholic, but still, she hoped that she hadn't accidentally made Margie feel awkward or anything. It wasn't like she went out of her way to pretend to be a Gentile around her friend, but at the same time, she was a bit shy and reserved about doing anything overtly or stereotypically Jewish, like injecting random Hebrew words or phrases into her sentences, or stuff like that. Not that she was ashamed of her People or culture; far from it. Judith just considered it part of her private life and all, no need to broadcast it to others. Not to mention she was always afraid of accidentally offending Margie, given she was a Christian and all. There was also the fact that, up until the last hundred years or so, Judaism and Christianity had had something of a strained relationship, to say the least.

Granted, Margaret was probably as much of a faithful Christian as she was faithful in the Torah, but still, it was the principle of the matter.

"Sorry about that, Margie." Judith sheepishly stated, her face somewhat red. "I, uh, h-hope you didn't mind that. You can, uh, say a prayer yourself if you want."

"I, uh, h-hope you didn't mind that. You can, uh, say a prayer yourself if you want."

For a moment, Margaret was surprised at this, and then, for an infinitely worse moment she almost laughed. Her laughing would not have been terrible because it would have been strange or awkward, though it most certainly would have been, the Cohen sisters lacking the context to understand why she'd do so. No, Margaret knew it would be terrible because some part of her was keenly aware of the fact that, if she started, she would not be able to stop laughing. She would go on and on until the bitter, hollow, sound became a series of sobs, and runes began to dance around the room, and closing her eyes to shut the mental image out she could almost see them.

It never ends

Margaret did not laugh.

"There's nothing to apologize for, Judith." the noirette replied, her small smile having only flickered for a moment into a forced blank expression. Margaret had most certainly lost touch with her religious background, though to be honest even her mother hadn't exactly been devoutly Catholic until after her father's return and subsequent re-departure, but that didn't mean that Judith should. Anything that offered the green-haired girl even a miniscule amount of hope was welcome as far as Margaret was concerned. Still, she couldn't quite bring herself to say a prayer, even to avoid suspicion. Under the table Margaret purified the Soul Gem on her finger. She did not think of the last time she was in a church, the one that was a cathedral on the inside. Nor did she think of the Angel Witch and its sounds of grief. She did not think of how it knelt and wept at the foot of an effigy of the person it had lost, while its Familiars mourned and chorused in a language that even Margaret did not fully understand.

And she most certainly did not laugh.

Judith

"There's nothing to apologize for, Judith." Margaret assured her, which relieved Judith quite a bit.

Still, she couldn't help but feel that something was...off. Margie's expression seemed to waver, if just for a second or two. Hmmm. Maybe she'd ask her about it later.

Brushing the subject aside for the moment, Judith started to focus back on her food, eating the delicious breakfast prepared by Margie.

"Hey, Margaret?" Ruth spoke up suddenly, drawing the attention of both the girl in question, and Ruth's older sister. "Thanks for making me breakfast. And, um, I was wondering...will you be coming to my birthday party this Friday? If, uh, you don't mind me asking."

Ruth blushed a little at that, but seemed eager to hear Margaret's reply, all the same. Judith herself was rather interested as well, looking over at her best friend curiously. She knew that Ruth looked up to Margaret a great deal, perhaps even viewing her as another sister-figure, which Judith didn't mind in the slightest; if anything she found the matter very cute.

"Mom and I would be more than happy to have you over for Ruth's birthday, Margie." Judith added, beaming over at her partner.

"Hey, Margaret?" Margaret looked up as the younger Cohen sister addressed her. "Hm?" "Thanks for making me breakfast. And, um, I was wondering...will you be coming to my birthday party this Friday? If, uh, you don't mind me asking."

The dark-haired girl glanced briefly at Judith, before turning back to Ruth once the other Puella Magi had confirmed that to be alright. With a kindly, and perhaps more notably, genuine, smile, Margaret answered. "I'd be delighted, if you'll have me. As for breakfast, that's quite alright. It's just my way of returning the favor for you two being such gracious hosts."

This wasn't just Margaret being polite either, though she supposed she was. She actually did like Ruth quite a bit. As before, she was probably the only person other than Judith to get a really, non-affected smile out of the stoic Magical Girl. Well, only other person left in that category anyway.

"Actually", she continued, "I've got a decent idea what present I might be bringing as well. I might need Judith's help with some of the specifics, but I doubt that will prove much of a problem" Actually, the part she'd need Judith's help with was telling her which books Ruth did and didn't have. Margaret's ideas were rather ambitious for this one, so the actual obtaining part would be harder. But there was time, and with her nearly inhuman determination applied to a difficult, but decidedly mundane, goal, she wasn't terribly worried.

Judith

Ruth perked up at Margaret's words, looking especially excited and eager at hearing the older girl would be bringing a present of her own. The young girl beamed over at the Puella Magi, as a large grin spread across her face. "T-thanks, Margaret! I, uh, appreciate that. I look forward to seeing at my party."

Ruth punctuated that with a shy smile, quite pleased, overall, with the older girl's response. Judith herself was rather happy to hear this as well, and was interested in what Margie might get her little sister. Whatever it was, though, Judith was sure that Ruth would love it!

"Speaking of your party," Judith spoke up, looking over at her little sister with an impish smile. "Will your boyfriend be coming over, too?"

Ruth blushed hotly at that, her face scrunching up with a grimace. The little girl crossed her arms, glaring at her elder sibling. "For the last time, Juddy, Matthew is NOT my boyfriend! He's just...just a friend, okay?"

"Hm, are you sure about that, Ruth? I think he likes you. Besides, you two would make a cute couple." the green-haired girl giggled, despite the annoyed look her little sister shot her.

Ruth might protest against the idea, but Judith always thought that she and her friend Matthew would make a cute couple. She just hoped her sister would realize that soon; Matthew was a nice boy, and the sort of person you'd want your first boyfriend to be, especially at Ruth's age.

Margaret

Raising an eyebrow at the sisters' antics, Margaret silently resumed eating her breakfast, though one could interpret her mildly quizzical expression as an unspoken request for clarification. She actually didn't know anything about Matthew and Ruth's... relationship status, or whatever the term was.

That wasn't to say that it wasn't obvious however. Margaret was at least aware enough in these matters to know that she wasn't particularly adept in them.

She actually had surprisingly little experience with sisters, now that she thought about it. She herself was an only child, and Sarah had mentioned that she had been too. Margaret didn't know if the third member of their trio had been as well, but she and Sarah had come to Kalani Island on their own. and, from what the noirette had heard of their background, it wouldn't have been very relevant either way by that point. She'd seen Judith and Ruth interact before of course, but without at least one other pair of sisters it was impossible to determine what things were common to them.

But that probably wasn't very important right now, Margaret reflected. Regardless of where it originated from, she enjoyed listening to their banter. Stoicism or no, she couldn't help but grin a little.

Judith

Judith grinned over at Margaret, pleased to see the small smile on her face. She decided to elaborate, for her best friend's sake.

"See, Ruth has this boyfriend--!" she began, but was cut off by her little sister.

"Matthew is not my boyfriend, Juddy!" Ruth protested, glaring hotly at her big sis.

Judith smirked, giving her younger sibling a placating smile. "Fine, fine. Ruth has this friend who happens to be a boy, named Matthew. He and Ruth have been friends for...what, two years, now? They're together all the time when Ruth isn't here. I'd already think they were boyfriend and girlfriend, of course, if my dear sister here didn't deny it so strongly."

Ruth crossed her arms, sticking her tongue out at Judith. Without thinking, she blurted out, "And by that logic, Juddy, you and Margaret would be girlfriends! I mean, you two spend all your time together..."

Judith felt her face flush horribly at that, as a blush rapidly spread across her cheeks. The green-haired girl stammered for a moment, her mind reeling for something to say. She wanted to deny the idea, yet at the same time she didn't want to. Ruth, meanwhile, reddened a little herself, embarrassed at saying such a thing, since she knew that Judith did, indeed, have a crush on Margaret. Luckily for her older sister, however, Ruth saved Judith from having to answer her.

"Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course." the purple-haired girl blabbered, giving her sister an anxious smile. "I-I think you and Margaret would make a good c-couple, actually, if, you know, Margaret was, um..."

Ruth squirmed in her seat, feeling herself redden further as she looked down at the table. She clammed her mouth shut, knowing she'd made things even worse, somehow. So, in her desperation, she immediately and awkwardly changed subjects. "...Um, that is, w-wow these pancakes are good, Margaret! Did I, uh, th-thank you for them, yet?"

Judith placed a hand on her forehead, resisting the growing urge to groan aloud. Her sister hadn't saved her at all, it seemed. If anything, she'd just made things worse...oh, Gawd...

She resisted the urge to look over at Margie, instead looking down at the table similarly as her face continued to retain its crimson hue. Margie knew she was gay now, of course, what with the incident from yesterday. But still...ugh, this was so embarrassing...where was a Witch when you needed it?!

Margaret

Margaret glanced between the sisters, mildly confused. Ruth's reaction was understandable, she probably thought she had just accidentally revealed her older sister's sexuality, but Judith's seemed a tad extreme. Actually, it seemed almost as much so as yesterday when she'd seen the books.

"Hm? Yes, I think you did. It's quite alright, I was happy to." The noirette replied absently to Ruth, her attention focused more on gazing quizzically at Judith. Margaret was aware that the younger Puella Magi had a habit of reacting rather strongly to these sorts of things, but this still seemed a bit much. And that staring contest she seemed to have initiated with her plate, combined with the fact that she was silent instead of babbling like she had previously when she was embarrassed, made her think that maybe something was different about this. ...Maybe something that made it more personal?

...oh...

And for the first time in a while, Margaret felt an overwhelming surge of panic rise up within her. She fought to keep her expression neutral as best as she could, but she was also fairly certain that the initial surprise of her realization might have been briefly evident. Oh no, she really hoped that Judith hadn't seen that, or at least wouldn't interpret it in any sort of negative fashion. If Judith did have romantic feelings towards her as she now suspected, thinking that her friend reacted badly to finding out was not what she needed.

Oh, but Margaret had feared for her ability to monitor her friend's emotional state before. Blast, there was no possible good end to this. Not that there had been a good ending possible before, they'd both either Witch out or die eventually, likely before they made it into their senior years of high school, but now there were even more possible bad endings, and they were even more imminent. And at least Margaret was able to protect her before. how was she supposed to defend her junior from distress that might arise from the very situation between them?

Attempting to lighten the mood, and also possibly cover up that she might have figured it out, assuming of course her guess that she was becoming increasingly confidant in was correct, Margaret asked, perhaps slightly teasing "What's wrong, Judy? I found this out yesterday, remember?"

Judith

Judith, to Margaret's luck, didn't catch the brief look of realization that crossed her face, as focused as Judith was in her staring contest with her plate. She finally did lift her eyes, though, when Margaret spoke again.

"What's wrong, Judy? I found this out yesterday, remember?"

Judith felt her face flush hotter, embarrassed by the reminder of Margaret's....unusual discovery of her sexuality. Ruth, though, perked up at this mention, looking over at Margaret curiously.

"She found out?" her younger sister inquired. Before Judith could let Ruth get the wrong idea though, and further compound things, she quickly jumped in.

"Margaret found out I, um, l-like girls, yes." the green-haired girl interjected, nodding her head.

Ruth blinked, taking the information in. She tilted her head in consideration, her mind putting two and two together. "Oh....so Margaret saw your pervy books, Juddy?"

Judith, right in the process of sipping from her drink, almost spit it out in surprise; instead, she merely coughed repeatedly as she choked the drink down. When she finally regained her composure, she shot her little sister an incredulous look, her face once more blossoming a bright red blush.

"M-my what?!"

"Your pervy books," Ruth repeated, as if she were just talking about the weather. "I found them two weeks ago, when Matthew was over for a sleepover. I went to get an extra pillow from your room, and...put them back up when they came down with the pillow. I guess Margaret saw those too, huh?"

Judith simply stared at her sister for a good moment, before massaging her temples with her fingers, groaning in exasperation as the embarrassed girl dealt with this new revelation. "Ugh...does anyone in this house not know about those books?!"

"Dad doesn't," Ruth unhelpfully chimed, earning her a scathing glare from Judith. "And Mom doesn't either, I guess."

Judith grumbled under her breath, mentally reminding herself to find a better hiding place for her....material. At least Ruth wasn't really teasing her about this, though. She was quite grateful her sister hadn't gone through puberty, just yet.

"Oh, speaking of your pervy books," Ruth began, earning her a slight twitch and grimace from her big sister. "Can I borrow that back massager you had next to them?"

Judith blinked, furrowing her brow. "Back massager? I don't have a back massager..."

"Yes you do," Ruth reminded her sister, rolling her eyes. "You know, that thing you have...it's shaped like a microphone, and vibrates...it's a back massager, right?"

If it was even possible, Judith felt her face flare up even more, her cheeks as red as they could be! Her entire mind recoiled in absolute embarrassment and mortification! It was bad enough that Ruth had embarrassed her this much....b-but the fact that her sister had found h-her.....her....and the fact that Margie was right next to her, and had heard what Ruth had said—!

She scrambled for something to say, something that could somehow salvage the utter embarrassment she was going through.

"Um, y-yes, now I remember! I, uh, l-lost it a few days ago...if I, um, f-find it, you can borrow it." Judith stammered, her cheeks tinged crimson.

Ruth gave her sister an old look, at a loss for the source of her embarrassment, but shrugged, accepting the explanation all the same. Judith, meanwhile, stared down desperately at her plate, hoping beyond hope that Margaret didn't know what a vibrator was...

Margaret would have found the sister's banter to be amusing, still did a little actually, were she not struggling with the information she had just obtained. Even so, she was still paying mind to their conversation. I simply wouldn't do to give Judith reason to believe that something was amiss. That could be all too easily misinterpreted.

At the very least, she was glad that the slightly younger Puella Magi hadn't seemed to notice that Margaret had finally called her Judy. That might have tipped her off to the fact that something was up. Margaret would have to be more careful about that in the future as well.

Because she was listening though, she was drawn into the discussion of the "back massager".

Shaped like a microphone? What a terrible design for a back massager. Wouldn't it be far more effective for it to be a pillow or bed or something? Having to manually hold it to one's back didn't seem a very good way to relieve stiffness.

And Judith's expression. There was clearly something about this that had her reacting with extreme embarrassment. Margaret, for her part, having finished her food, merely looked at her friend while raising a confused eyebrow.

Judith

Judith felt herself flush further at Margaret's stare, the green-haired girl hurriedly eating the rest of her food to buy her a little time. Okay, okay...she could get through this! This...this morning had really turned out to be super embarrassing, b-but, she could get through it! The worst was behind her now....right?

Judith really hoped that was the case...

"S-so, um..." Judith spoke up, looking over at Margaret...her cheeks still tinged a bit pink. As long as Margaret (or Ruth) didn't bring up the 'back' massager again, she certainly wasn't about to elaborate on it any further. "Um, wh-what do you wanna do today, Margie?"

Before she and Margie left to do...whatever they were gonna do for the rest of the day, Judith made a mental note to herself to...move things around in her room, as it were. Because clearly, certain....things were in far too obvious spots, and she really, really didn't want Margaret (or her little sister!) to stumble across her books again, or worse, the...'back' massager.

"I believe," replied Margaret, "that you mentioned that you wanted to go to lunch and a movie? I admit that I don't know what's currently showing, but I rather like the idea." She gave another small smile saying this, both because her words actually were completely true, without any hint of ulterior motive or thought for once, even for Judith's benefit as those thoughts and motives almost always were, and as what was hopefully a bit of reassurance.

Having finished, she set her plate aside, adding "And what of you, Ruth? Will you be alright here on your own?" This too was genuine. She figured that it was likely so, based on the fact that Judith seemed alright with it, but Margaret didn't know herself. She didn't know when kids these days started being okay to be left alone. Her own circumstances were a bit unusual, and she could barely remember being Ruth's age. That whole time period sort of blurred together for her into a single 'before'.

Judith

"I believe that you mentioned that you wanted to go to lunch and a movie? I admit that I don't know what's currently showing, but I rather like the idea."

Judith gave a dim little nod, setting aside her plate as she contemplated matters. Yeah, seeing a movie sounded good, and so did going to lunch afterward! Hm, maybe they could invite Chiyo and Aolani over too? It'd be nice to reach out to them, certainly, and Judith really wanted to get to know them better! Especially if either of them joined her or Margaret as fellow Magical Girls!

That thought cheered Judith up a bit, perking her up after the endless embarrassment she'd suffered through since breakfast began. A tiny smile graced her face, traces of her previous embarrassment dissipating.

"And what of you, Ruth? Will you be alright here on your own?"

Ruth looked up from her plate, spearing one last forkful of pancakes to eat, as she finished her own meal. After swallowing, she gave a reply. "Yeah, I'll be fine. You and Juddy should go enjoy your movie. I was gonna hang out with Matthew today, anyway."

Judith couldn't help but give her sister a wide grin, unable to help herself from teasing her sibling one last time. "You mean your boyfri--"

"He is not my boyfriend, Juddy!" Ruth shot back, cutting her sister off before she could finish. Judith merely giggled in reply, causing Ruth to scowl and stick her tongue out at her elder sister.

Judith giggled some more, which seemed to annoy Ruth, as the younger girl huffed, crossing her arms. After a few seconds she stood up, grabbing her plate.

"Well, I'm done." she stated, giving Margaret a little smile...while giving her sister a stern (but cute) glare. "Thanks for the food, Margaret."

That said, Ruth took her leave, depositing the plate and fork into the kitchen sink, before going up the stairs to her room.

Judith gave one last little chortle of laughter, a small smile on her face as she looked over at Margaret. "Hehe. It's probably mean of me to tease Ruth so much, but I can't help it! She just looks so cute when she gets so defensive, like that."

The green-haired girl stretched in her seat, thinking things over one last time before speaking some more. "Seeing a movie, and having lunch after, sounds good to me, Margie! Think we could invite Chiyo and Aolani over for lunch, maybe? Or do...something, together, later today? I really wanna get to know them better, especially if they become Magical Girls like us!"
