An interesting and relaxed individual, Hiro is not a hard person to get along with. Unless someone did something completely unforgivable or that warranted such a negative reaction, the worst you usually see from Hiro is indifference. He is known to accept the situation as-is and does not seem to enjoy wasting time with overreactions or drama. He can be seen teasing someone on occasion, although this is actually just one of the ways he expresses like to a person, and is not meant to actually harm them, be it emotionally or physically. Hiro also owns a strong sense of justice, unable to let people he sees abusing others go, nor letting someone suffer in silence by themselves.
Ever since he learned he was used in high school, he lost a lot of self confidence in himself. He figures he must just not be dating material, if he could only ever date someone who wanted to use him as a tool. Because of this, he is very cautious around friendly women in particular.
He also does have a habit of applying tropes from anime to the real life.
Background
When he was very young, Hiro had been bullied for quite some time. Because back then he was small, weak, and often didn't speak up, people picked him as the target for their antics. As a small child, it had begun to wear on him, causing him to lose what little self confidence he had left and it might have even havd drastic negative effects on his character if a certain young girl did not appear before him one day.
She was on the same boat. People had decided to pick on her for whichever reasons. And that was not okay. It took someone else's suffering to bring Hiro out of his shell, and so he did. With a renewed vigor, he picked up his shoulders and he stepped in front of the girl, denying the bullies any more satisfaction, and when he did, they realized they could no longer do the same to him. It was at this moment that a helpless kid became a Hiero. He might have even became a to-be husband, but why would he even remember that?

High school was a place where many people began to find true love for the first time in their lives. So was the case for Hiro, who had never really seemed to have much luck in that regard prior. Perhaps it was his fascination with anime (or the heroes in it, rather), or maybe something else was the matter? That simply did not mean much when, surprise, surprise, the most beautiful and popular girl in the school confessed to him.
The girl he had a crush on since the first year was, unbelievably, the very same girl that had just asked him out! Of course he accepted! And, so, like a fool, Hiro played right into the seductress's hands. He tried his best to be a good boyfriend. Dates, movies, you name it, he tried it. A bit unoriginal, but that did not mean his intents were immoral. He had just not really had experience in the matter. And so, many a yen was wasted in a fruitless effort to be the best he could, and when she had though it enough, the woman broke up with him in the worst way imagineable - by acting as though they weren't ever really a thing. She bared her fangs as a manipulative, unfriendly, demon that was not the girl he knew during their time together, nor what he though he knew about her. It crushed him, and for the rest of his high school days, he was in quite the depression.
But now..... now he has another chance. College should work just fine for a new beginning, right?
