Monster - Imagine Dragons
If you were to describe Ashton with only one word it would be peculiar. He tends to keep to himself. He is reticent but always wears a smile and when approached he is extremely polite.
Considering the facts that he spends most of his time reading or doing other non-social activities he should be considered mysterious, but he most certainly isn't. The magic of mystery is quickly broken by what can only be considered weirdness. Ashton does quite a lot of odd things like always carrying an umbrella in case it rains, with London’s quickly changing weather it seems reasonable but the odd part is that he likes to stand in the rain. He simply settles under the umbrella, safe from rain and stands there for hours, no matter how cold or heavy the rain is. Another thing that makes him stand out (except for his unusual white hair) is the fact he is almost always accompanied by a cat, his parents managed to convince the principal to bend the no pets allowed rule.
His grades are average and he is most certainly not the next Einstein but he makes up for it with his resourcefulness and quick thinking. He learned not to trust people easily and question everyone everything, so he does, but his unintentional polite charm and innocent looks make other people trust him easily,
His grandmother taught him to always be grateful so he never complains. Still there is one thing that he can’t stand and that it loud and overly dramatic people who have to make a scene out of every little thing. It is in those cases he forgets all of his social anxieties as well as manners and snaps. The tantrums are rare but they can happen out of nowhere.
For the most Ashton is reserved but not stuck-up young man who should not be tempered with if he didn't have his afternoon nap.
Ashton was born on a Saturday morning in early spring. He is the only child of Claire and Oliver Brooks. Since a very young age he lived with his grandmother in a small town south from London while his parents lived in the city itself. His parents rarely had time for him since they were, and still are, successful business people, The only time they spent together was on Christmas or other holidays. They always tried to make up for it by giving him extraordinary presents, but no present could make up time they should have spent with Ashton.
Living in a secluded area he never had real company, the only "friends" he had were his grandma’s cats. He was a very timid child, never venturing outside grandma’s garden or even trying to make friends with local children, mostly because they were all older and he was afraid of rejection. It used to be his greatest fear since he was too young to understand and thought his parents rejected him too.
It didn’t go well when he started school, he became even shyer and spoke only when spoken to. He was 12 when his grandmother died. He moved back to London and started attending a private school. He spent most of his time home alone.
It was a year later that Ashton decided to make a change, to stop living in his closed world and try to fit in. Ashton was suddenly a little ray of sunshine, he started making lots of friends and was always in the centre of attention. The change was obvious even to his parents who praised his new social life, so he didn't have the heart to tell them that wasn't the real him. Every time he went out to a party just because he was expected to, he felt uncomfortable and sad that the only time everyone like him was when he was pretending. Underneath the fake smiles he was still an introvert who just happened to have a lot of fake friends.
He had, and still does, one true best friend, if she can be called that. The only one with who he feel completely comfortable around, the one who he shared his secrets with and could be sure she'll never tell them, his cat, Nya.
He once had a near death experience (It wasn't but he just calls it that.) While on a school trip to Blackpool Sands he was pushed into the sea and almost drowned, the water was only waist deep and he could have just stood up but the experience was still traumatizing. He often says he and Nya must be somehow related, her fur and his hair are the same colour and they are both terrified of water.
Although he has almost no interest in crime or anything that’s connected to violence, on the urging of his parents Ashton enrolled in the Sherlockian academy. He ended up liking the school quite a lot since everyone there was a bit odd and in his own way he fits in just right.
