The Grace Family

The family, The "help," and a dead boyfriend.

a character in “Keeping Secrets.”, as played by dreamingreality

Description

Image Jessa Lynn Grace is a typical kid. She loves to play, she loves her toys, but most of all she loves her sister Elisa. Despite the fact she's a toddler, only age three, she appears to know something is very wrong with her family. Her parents, Joshua and Diana, are hardly ever there. They are strangers to her. Her nanny and Elisa are more of a maternal figure in her mind. She's called them both "mommy" on several occasions, only to be corrected. Named after Elisa's great grandmother.

Image There has never been two people more obsessed with status, wealth, and appearance than Joshua and Diana Grace. They were both born into money and have only made more in their lifetimes. They expect nothing less than perfection from their staff and daughter and will do everything in their power to cover up a scandal. They care little for their granddaughter, thinking she's just a mistake made by Elisa. They have noticed their daughter's several ills, including her anorexia, but would prefer to ignore it - just like Jess.

Image Alan Foster is the Grace family's chef. He lives and works in their home. He tends to be a grumpy man, though he's quite observant. He knows all the secrets of the house, including the ones no one was ever meant to know. Often times he feels sorry for Elisa and Jessa, but feels it is not his place to say something. Despite is grumpy exterior, he cares quite a bit for the girls and dislikes everything about their parents except the salary they pay him.

Image Allison walker is both Jessa's nanny and maid to the house. Like Alan, she lives in the home. Her job is to clean everything but the kitchen, do the laundry, and take care of Jess when she's not in her preschool classes. She's generally kind hearted, but extremely strict. She suspects that Jess is Elisa's daughter, but refuses to ask for fear of losing her job.

Image Malachai was Elisa's first love. Her parents absolutely despised him as he was everything about the world that they hated. He had tattoos, was sixteen when she was fourteen, had an anarchist view of the world, was a musician and an artist, and showed Elisa that her parents didn't have to have so much control over her. He believed in fun, in happiness, and that you didn't need to have money to have those two things. He loved Elisa and despite what she thinks, he had suspicions that she was pregnant before he died. Before he could ask her, he was hit by a drunk driver and killed.

UPDATE:

Was actually paid of by parents to stay away. Has no knowledge of Jess. Joined Beck Hades' rival gang after becoming addicted to drugs, which ruined his mind and turned him into something dark - evil even. There were hints that he had a darker part of himself when they were younger, but nothing like he is now.

So begins...

Beck Hades.

Elisa's expression darkened so much when she caught his glare that it made his heart sink from his chest into his stomach. He was getting more and more worried about her everytime a ping of realization happened in his mind. The blonde ran his fingers through his hair in a familiar nervous motion. Oh Elisa Grace, what am I to do with you...

“It’ll be ready within the hour, maybe hour and a half.”

"Thank you very much," Beck smiled politely, watching the man prance around the kitchen happily, clearly he had been given the chance to display his passion to someone else. He was unsure if he should be thanking him or the other way round. "I look forward to it," and he was not lying along with that comment as she stomach was already snarling from the blissful scents.

“Well, I guess we’ll be in my room. Could you bring it up?”
“Or we could go in the backyard? Or the movie room? I don’t know. What do you wanna do?”

The youth shot a seductive glare over at the brunette and maybe even dipped his tongue out of his mouth and dragged it across his lips melodramatically. "That seems good enough to me, unless you want to head anywhere else." is exactly what passed his mouth in a rather normal tone but you could tell that his pupils told a different story. Something along the lines of "Anywhere with a bed...".Though Beck was clearly joking it was convincing enough.

Beck noticed from the corner of his eye Elisa slowly crawling out of the room for some reason or another. Once she was out of sight the male took his chance and pounced quickly towards Alan, tapping him lightly on the shoulder before lowering his brow with a serious expression. He paused before speaking. "I hope you don't mind me asking, but how much does Elisa eat daily?..." The blonde whispered quietly, his Adams apple bobbing uneasily in his throat. He was somewhat worried the man would turn around and call him rude or simply not be able to give a answer at all...as it seemed she never ate anything. "I'm just...worried..."

"That seems good enough to me, unless you want to head anywhere else."

Elisa rolled her eyes at his all too familiar seductive glare, despite her cheeks turning their usual shade of rosy pink. "I'm going to see if there's anything I need to clean up, it'll be up the stairs and it's two doors down on the right." She was lying of course, her room was always immaculately clean. The smell was starting to get to her, making her feel nauseous from hunger, and if she were in there any longer she would have to eat something...and she just wasn't hungry enough for that. Not yet. It took all she had to not run away from the kitchen and it's cabinets, when nearly every fiber of her being was screaming for her to eat something.

When she did make it to her bedroom, the room was as she expected it to be: practically ready to be pictured in for a magazine. It was large with a queen bed and her own bathroom, cabinets filled with art supplies and a desk lined one of the walls, while another had a television with an XBox and PS3 hooked up to it, but other than that...It was what you would expect a typical seventeen year old girl to have. Pictures of her friends from before she moved where scattered on her walls, all of which she looked like a completely different person in: all smiles, drinks in her hand, a few more pounds on her, and in some of them she was hanging on a red headed boy with a too many tattoos and spiky hair - someone her parents never approved of. Someone who looked far too much like Elisa's 'little sister' to not be related.

Elisa frowned, debating on taking them down. Thus far she had managed to keep her old life and this new one entirely separate. She decided to keep them up.

---

"I hope you don't mind me asking, but how much does Elisa eat daily?...I'm just worried."

Alan froze, setting down the spoon to stir whatever sauce he was making. He knew the answer was next to never, but he also knew that he could never admit that out loud. If anyone who worked for the Grace's mentioned any problem they had, they risked being fired by Mr. and Mrs. Grace themselves. It wasn't to say that he didn't care about Elisa, part of him was just as worried as Beck. "There are certain questions I can't answer and that shouldn't be asked - not here at least - but I will say that she seems to eat out of the house an awful lot. She never does here." Alan figured that would be enough for Beck to guess the answer he was looking for.

Beck Hades.

"I'm going to see if there's anything I need to clean up, it'll be up the stairs and it's two doors down on the right."

The devils grin spread across his face as the colour of her cheeks caught his attention. Sometimes he wondered if his somewhat jokey comments really did have a affect on her, and if she seriously would not mind the idea of the blonde crawling into bed with her. Beck refused to admit to himself that the situation was not something he would mind...at all. "Alright, I'm right after you." He called with a quick nod and bright eyes. The blonde did notice the off-ness in her expression though, and he did suspect it was exactly to do with what thoughts were running through his mind at the current moment. Food.

Beck turned back to Alan once she had left, asking the question that was biting away at the cells in his mind.

"There are certain questions I can't answer and that shouldn't be asked - not here at least - but I will say that she seems to eat out of the house an awful lot. She never does here."

The youth suspected that the topic was not something the staff could talk about willingly, and so his answer surprised him. Alan clearly wanted to hint at Beck what he already had concluded. He placed a false kind of Damn-I-am-sorry light smile that quickly faded into a frown. "Thank you, I understand." The blonde said, tapping at his legs with his fingers awkwardly.

Beck then followed after Elisa upstairs, thoughts swirling his mind. He made sure his steps were quiet as he walked along the corridor though being honest he had little reasoning for it. The male tipped his head around her door and peeped in. He liked her room already. Photos scattered across the walls like shards of her memory. His vision then lowered to the woman stood in the center of the room, particularly to her painfully thin and fragile looking frame. Pain thudded hard in his heart as he did so. Why did I not notice before...?

"Hello beautiful."

"And you are just a little bit perfect Elisa."

If only he knew how far from perfect she really was, he'd want absolutely nothing to do with her. Nothing in her life was flawless and she doubted anything in her life would ever be flawless. Except for Beck. He was the closest to heaven that she'd ever be, just like the Goo Goo Dolls' song said. The hug, the closeness of their bodies, made her feel wonderfully secure and she wished for that moment to last forever. It was too bad that all good things came to an end, a fact that Elisa knew all too well.

The room had gone from cuddly to tense in mere seconds.

"I care about your eating habits cause I care about you Elisa! They are my concern! Not everyone starves them self to the point of being skeletons either! I don't have any idea why you do because I think you would look impossibly perfect anyway!"

Not everyone starves themselves? No shit, not everyone starves themselves. She was pissed, she was embarrassed, and she was heartbroken. "I don't starve myself, Beck. What the fuck!? Oh, and thanks for the fucking confidence boost there. I'm skeletal and homely unless I'm fat, that's great. Thanks. I really needed to know that shit." Apparently, Elisa was fond of cursing in her anger. "At least I don't hang around bloodied men and jailbirds." She was about to storm out of her room in a particularly bitchy fashion, but Alan had reached the door before her bringing in a tray of food.

"That's great. Fucking fantastic," She mumbled underneath her breath. Alan, clearly sensing the obvious tension, set the tray up on her dresser and left as quickly and quietly as possible. Elisa thanked him before he left, but he just gave a simple nod before heading down the stairs. What he left in her room smelled heavenly and looked even better. It was just a very small pasta dish, though she was unsure what type of pasta it was. If her stomach could jump out of her torso and consume it like a raging monster, it would, but Elisa just turned away and walked towards the window in her room. She had run out of things to say by this point and the food was making her both hungry and anxious. She wanted to leave, but that would be far too obvious.

Beck Hades.

"I don't starve myself, Beck. What the fuck!? Oh, and thanks for the fucking confidence boost there. I'm skeletal and homely unless I'm fat, that's great. Thanks. I really needed to know that shit."

Beck's fists clenched hard on his jeans; so hard that they almost tore at skin and being honest he wished that his fingernails would draw blood creating at least some form of distraction. He did not want to argue with the person he loved, he did not want to have this conversation, he did not want to turn round and call her a liar. "I know your eating habits Elisa, I pay enough attention to you to notice." The blondes voice was low and maybe even robotic, it felt like stumbling along a minefield. A minefield that could ruin them.

"You are thin. Too thin. Its not something you can say in any kinder way Elisa. Do you want me to pretend everything is alright and ignore my best friend who is clearly needing a hand? I'm sorry but that is not my style." The speech came out in a very similar tone as before, but his tongue twirled a nice kind of caring edge at the tips of sentences. "Believe it or not Miss Grace, but I really do give a shit."

"At least I don't hang around bloodied men and jailbirds."

Stunned. Frozen. Bewildered.

Saved by the Alan...Even though the idea sounded rather comical, there was nothing funny about this situation. The food looked and smelled perfect, though the idea of eating right now made Beck's stomach flip over. Elisa was pushing away this temptation, this natural feeling of hunger every single day. The blonde nodded a thank you to Alan before he left. Silence.

"I told you not to follow me." Beck growled, his eyes glistening with the dangerous aurora that they held back in the flats. His gang leader expression, disappointment when his pack decided to disobey their pack alpha. "None of that is any of your business and the reason why that is so is because if you go poking your nose in places is likely you will end up like him. Alright?" He could feel his pulse beating hard like a drum in his throbbing head. The beast was unable to make eye contact with beauty, and he had a feeling she was on the edge of running, leaving him a false monster and not Prince Beck. At her last comment he let a roar pass his lips. "How fucking dare you speak about Millie that way!"

Beck Hades.

"Did you ever think, Hades, that I don't want help. That I don't need it. Maybe I'm naturally this thin, maybe you're just around at all the wrong times. Quit acting like you know me so fucking well. You don't know me at all,"

Beck lowered his vision and head to the ground and began to awkwardly twiddle his thumbs. He did not have a clue what to say. Being all too honest Elisa was just being stubborn now and there was nothing what so ever he could do about it. She was not naturally thin at all, people don't come that naturally thin. It did not look natural at all. It was driving him insane and his face displayed how he was feeling. "I guess you don't want me to be here then do you." He stated bluntly; it was not even a question.

"Is that a threat or a promise?"

"A bloody promise. I am being serious Elisa, this is not some kind of joke you know." The youth growled, his intimidating leader voice taking place once again. Beck did not look like Beck when he was like this. His handsome face was lacking its soft jokey feel to it and his stance was more upright and fake. It was all a complete utter lie.

"Get out,"

What?
is she serious?
Oh shit...

"What did you expect Elisa? I was defending a friend." He snarled, displaying his first sign of aggression. As he began to stand up a little girl wandered into the room, having the brightest sunshine face Beck had ever seen ever. He reached the door and paused, allowing the girl to prance into the room. "Hello," The blonde said softly, managing a smile even though he looked extremely hurt underneath. He then turned back to Elisa and frowned before giving a very blunt "Goodbye".

He then wandered along the corridor and down the stairs, wondering if Elisa would follow after him though he doubted it. Beck had to admit he was very angry. He had only been kind and she had just thrown it back in his face, disrespected the person who had saved his own and many other lives, and stuck her nose in places it should not have been. Beck had every right to be upset.

The blonde knew the first place he was going to vent his feelings to.

Jessa, despite not understanding anything that was going on, waved her entire arm after Beck and yelled "Good bye."

Elisa watched Beck leave, her hearting pounding with every emotion from anger to disappointment. She wanted to cry, but with the smiling toddler looking up at her - now with an entirely confused face - she knew she couldn't. She smiled, trying to mask all the negative things she was feeling now. If there was one thing Elisa could claim to be good at, it was hiding her problems from the rest of the world...The rest of the world except Beck.

"Who was that, Ellie?" Jessa said, pointing at the door the boy had just exited.

"Just a friend," Elisa responded with another, small smile. "Let's go play."

Was she still friends with Beck? Or had she just ruined anything they had ever had? The thought plagued her through the rest of the night and left her feeling panicked and alone. She teetered on the edge of an anxiety attack and the desperate want to just leave everything behind, go to sleep, and never wake up. In her life she had never felt more down and alone, she could feel herself drowning even as she laughed and played with Jess. When Allison, Jessa's nanny, asked her if everything was alright she lied. Same with Alan. She even told the same thing to herself, but Elisa wasn't okay. She was never okay and she had just pushed away the one person in her life who could have changed that.

Eventually she had to put Jessa to bed and everything after that was a blur. She kept checking her phone, praying to God that Beck would text her or call her and that she could fix this, but couldn't bring herself to call him. What would she say to him anyway? That she was sorry? Except that she wasn't. He had confronted her and she didn't like that, he had thrown in her face a secret that no one was supposed to ever know.

After her house had gone quiet, she finally allowed herself to break down in the comfort of her bed, her pillow collecting all the tears that fell. Everything in her life was weighing so heavily on her, that she wasn't sure if she could handle living that life for much longer. The longer she thought about it, the better the idea sounded, until she finally fell asleep.

((Maybe they could run into each other at a park. They could both go there to clear their heads, just before he "exposes" himself? Y'know. Because fate will constantly throw them together constantly and what not. xD))

The Next Day

Throughout the night Elisa had tossed and turned. She would fall asleep and be awoken by some horrific nightmare about Beck and the bloodied man. She had suspicions about what he was involved in and it scared the living shit out of her. Especially now that she had pushed him away. By the time light broke through her windows, her eyes were puffy from tears and she looked like she hadn't slept in weeks. She checked her phone, her heart sinking a little at the empty screen. No new texts. No missed calls. The severity of what she had done weighed heavily on her shoulders.

She couldn't be bothered to get dressed, other than to throw on a pair of sweats, freshen up her pony tail, and brush her teeth. When she walked down to the kitchen she hadn't expected to see her mother and father sitting there, looking at her with a disapproving stare as they always did.

"Jesus, Elisa. Couldn't you put a little more effort in than that?" Mrs. Grace said, frowning so deeply that Elisa thought her mouth may just fall off her face. The teenager shrugged her shoulders and looked down at the bowl of oatmeal that had been placed in front of her by Alan, who she hadn't previously noticed was in the room. Her stomach was begging her for it, but at the same time she was repulsed by the sight of it. She dipped the spoon in and forced a small spoonful down her mouth, followed by a second, but that was all she could manage.

"I think I'm...Uh. I think I'm going to go out for the day," She said.

"You're not going to finish your food?" Her dad asked, looking down at her bowl and back at her.

"No I'm not -" Elisa was quickly cut off by her mother saying: "She probably doesn't need it anyway. It looks like she's gained a little weight while we were gone."

Her heart broke, splintering into the tiniest of pieces. Her father looked stunned, as did Alan, but neither of them said a word. The tension in the air could suffocate them all. Elisa didn't give any of them time to, anyways, as she had already grabbed her keys and purse and walked out the door. Her head was pounding with all the thoughts that swirled around. She desperately wished she could talk to Beck, but couldn't bring herself to call. He hated her now, there was no way he didn't. She had said horrible things about the people he obviously cared about and she had pushed him away when all he did was try to help her.

She drove around for a while, before finally ending up in a kids park. It was old, some of the toys still made of metal that had now rusted. It looked like a kid hadn't been here in years, but graffiti marked nearly every inch of the place and some of the spray paint looked fairly fresh. She stopped her car and walked over to one of the swings to sit down, and it made a squeak every time she moved. She no longer felt like a human being and more like a dead girl who was just waiting for her body to catch up.

Elisa rocked back on forth on her swing, not noticing anyone or anything around her. She was so focused on the pain she felt that little else mattered. Every ounce of hope she had every clung to, the small amount of light that had ever lit the darkness she shrouded herself in, was gone. It was her fault that she couldn't stand up to her parents, her fault that she and Beck had fought, her fault that her daughter would never really know who her mother was. She blamed herself for everything and didn't feel like she deserved to live any more.

So that moment, on the swing, she decided that she wouldn't. She wouldn't plague the Earth with her presence any longer. She cried silently, tears falling down her face. After tonight, Elisa Grace's life would come to an end and with it all the pain she had ever felt. Part of her felt like a coward, but the rest of her was screaming to just do it already. Her crying got harder and her breathing more rapid as she held her head in her hands, contemplating all the ways she could do it. It wasn't just a thought anymore, it was a plan; a plan that she would go through with the moment she got home.

Finally, as the tears stopped falling and the pain turned into numbness, she stood up and walked to her car. Not looking anywhere but her destination and not thinking about anything but what she felt she needed to do. The drive home took longer than usual, the scenery just rolling past in a grey blur.

When she reached her house she didn't bother to speak to anyone, though Alan was the only one there and he was probably in his room. All of her movements were mechanical, like she was a doll being controlled by someone else. Everything in Elisa's world had turned black and white. There was no color, no life.

She immediately went into her bathroom, filling the tub with water, watching it as it filled, thinking that this was going to be the spot she died. The spot where her family, or more likely Alan or Allison, would find her body. Her parents would tell Jessa that she had moved away, or was a maid that they had fired. Elisa wouldn't be the disappointing daughter who had killed herself, she would be a nobody: a memory and a lie.

She sent Beck what she thought would be a final text, only reading "I'm sorry." She then submerged herself in the water, fully clothed. In one hand she held a razor that she had taken from an unused pencil sharpener, and slowly slid it up a vein. Deep enough to kill, she assumed. Blood rushed out of her wrists, staining the water. With her already fragile state, it didn't take her long to pass out from blood loss.

The last thing she saw was Jessa screaming and Alan rushing in.

Jessa had come home early.

Elisa had forgotten to lock the door.

Soon, the house was in a frenzy. Alan was on the phone with the paramedics, Allison - Jessa's nanny - was on the phone with the Grace's while simultaneously trying to calm the toddler. When the ambulance arrived, Elisa was nearly dead, and at the hospital she had flat lined, but by some miracle - they were able to fix her. With the help of donated blood, a ridiculous amount of stitches, and the tiniest bit of luck, Elisa's suicide attempt at failed. She was alive. When she opened her eyes, she was alone in the intensive care unit, aside from a nurse checking her vitals.

Fuck.

Long post, sorry about that.

The Next Day.

When she finally got home, things were a little tense. Alan made a point to check on her every few minutes, Allison would constantly come in Elisa's room to make sure Jess "was behaving," and her parents were on the phone talking about what a klutz their daughter was. As uncomfortable as it was, she did her best not to think about it. After all, Beck would be picking her up soon and she might actually have a good day.

Elisa wasn't really the type of girl to care what she wore, or at least it had been so long since she had dressed for a boy that she couldn't remember being that type of girl. Today, though, her bedroom looked like it had been hit by a hurricane of clothes. Jeans, dresses, skirts, shirts, and everything in between were thrown across all the corners of her room. She had tried things on, taken them off, and tried them on again. Elisa was frustrated, staring at her now nearly empty closet with her hair in a bun wearing nothing but pajama pants and a bra. Jessa, on the flip side, was having a grand time trying on her "big sister's" clothes and pretending she was a princess.

"Ellie, look!" Jess said with a giant smiled plastered on her face as she wore one of Elisa's more formal gowns, one she would usually where to a charity event of her mom's. The dress swallowed the toddler, in a mess of black fabric. Elisa laughed and shook her head.

"Come help sister get dressed," Elisa said with a smile. Jess immediately balled up the rest of the dress and ran over to her on wobbly legs.

"Where are you going?" Jess asked, her eyes wide with curiosity.

"Out with a boy," She answered. Jess's already big eyes nearly popped out of her head and she sucked in a dramatic breath. Everything Jessa Grace did was overly dramatic and absolutely adorable.

"Does he make you happy?" The little girl continued to question. "You're always sad." As young as she was, you could tell she was wondering if what she had just said would make Elisa upset and just like Elisa did, she chewed on her bottom lip nervously.

"Yes, he makes me happy but so do you. So help me pick a dress and you can take all the credit if he says I look pretty," She said with a smile, motioning to the remaining dresses hanging in the closet. There wasn't much, but she was sure one of those dresses had to be perfect. They were casual and flirty, but wouldn't make it look like she was going to a club. Jessa motioned to a white one that was short, with a brown belt around the waist. Elisa wasn't entirely sure if she was comfortable wearing it, or if she was comfortable wearing a dress at all. The last few years she had been a converse and jeans kind of girl, only getting dressed up if she absolutely had to. "Alright, I'll wear that one, go wait outside." She said with a small smile. Jessa responded with a loud okay, and ran out of the room - still wearing Elisa's black dress.

It only took her a few moments to put the dress on and take her hair down so that it fell over her shoulders. She stared at herself for a long time, realizing that she needed to put a sweater on to cover her bandaged arm. Today she was going out with Beck. Maybe it was a date, maybe it wasn't, sure wasn't sure if they had ever really decided on that, but even so...Something felt different. She had kissed him and later he kissed her.

"Now we are even..." He had told her, and she blushed at the memory. She didn't know how the day would end, but she hoped for the best. She put on a pair of flats and then made her way out of her bedroom and into the living room where Jess was arguing with Allison about whether or not she should take the dress off.

"No! It's mine," The three year old pouted, while her nanny tried to take it off of her.

"Jessa, that dress if very, very expensive. I don't think Elisa would appreciate it if you hurt it." Allison said firmly. The exchange went on for a few more minutes before Elisa finally cleared her throat to get their attention.

"Sorry, Miss Grace. Jessa took one of your dresses," The older woman frowned.

"It's okay. I let her."

"Oh...Okay. How are you then?"

"I'm just fine."

They stared at each other in an awkward silence for a few more moments before Allison decided to leave the room. Jess sat watching them with a puzzled expression on her face, like she couldn't figure out why there was so much tension, but once her nanny left a smile promptly returned to her cheery face. "Elisa you look like a princess! Just like me!" Jess exclaimed, pointing her dress with one hand and a plastic tiara she had found in a bucket of toys. Elisa smiled. Beck was supposed to be there soon and she really wanted to look good for him.

Beck Hades<3

Hey sexy. I'm outside and your place scares me. What do I do? xx

There was absolutely no way for Elisa to not laugh at that. Was he really that worried about coming inside? Then she remembered her parents were home and he was probably right to not come in. There was no way they'd approve of him and they weren't exactly warm and welcoming people. She winced, trying to imagine what would happen had he knocked on the door and her mother answered. Both her parents were equally miserable people, but if Elisa had to choose one over the other she would definitely choose her father.

I'll buzz you in. Just come in and I'll meet you outside. :)

The controls for the gate were right next to the door and it only took her a few moments to open the gate from her house. She realized she probably should have texted him the gate code earlier, but it didn't matter now. Jess, who had previously been distracted by her toys, had noticed Elisa was in the process of leaving and jumped up. "You're going bye bye now?" She asked with wide eyes that looked strikingly like her father's.

"Yes, I'm going bye bye now." Elisa said with a smile. "Remember, I'm going out with a boy."

"I want to see." Jess stated, pushing her lower lip out in a puppy dog pout.

That made Elisa entirely uncomfortable. Beck had seen Jess once, in passing, when he had thought she was her sister. Now that he knew the truth, she wasn't sure if he would be okay meeting her. After all, being a girl with a lot of problems was completely different than being a girl with problems and a baby. She chewed on her bottom lip and Jess continued to pout.

"I don't know about that Jess. Another day, maybe?" At her answer the three year old's face immediately fell and Elisa felt bad. Really, really bad. "Let me ask him okay? And only for a second, because we have to go." Elisa's will was weak when it came to pouting kids. She pulled out her phone and sent another text.

Send To:
Beck Hades<3

Jess wants to meet you. I told her no, but now she's pouting. Do you mind if I bring her out for a second?

She hesitated for a brief moment before sending the text, but only for a moment. It only took another glance at Jess's pouting face for her to click send.

Beck had agreed to Elisa bringing out Jess. Part of her was excited, the part that still believed everyone thought she was her adorable little sister, but she was also extremely anxious. He was in a gang and she was about to introduce her toddler to him. Elisa wasn't an extremely maternal person, at least she didn't see herself that way, but occasionally her motherly instincts would kick into overdrive. She knew she could trust Beck, she knew he would never hurt her daughter, but knowing what she knew...She couldn't say she was entirely comfortable introducing them.

"Alright, Jess. We'll go meet him," Elisa said with a smile, scooping up the little girl dress and all. With her free hand she threw on some sunglasses and started to walk out the door. When her hand was on the knob, she was stopped by none other than Mrs. Grace.

"Elisa, where are you going?" Her mother asked, arms crossed.

"Out, and Jess wanted to meet my friend. She'll come back in in a minute," Elisa answered hesitantly.

"Who is your friend?" It would be one thing if Mrs. Grace was asking out of pure curiosity, but her tone and the fact that every word was laced with acid made it uncomfortable.

"He goes to my school. We hang out sometimes," The seventeen year old whispered, looking at the tiles beneath her feet. Her mother frowned and even looked disgusted with her daughter.

"Dear God, Elisa, if you come home with news of another mistake..." Her voice trailed off and looked straight at Jessa, who was now squirming in Elisa's arms because of the tension in the air. At this point, Elisa wanted scream that Jess wasn't a mistake, and that she was just being a horrible bitch with a stick up her ass, but she remained silent. After a few moments of awkward quiet, Elisa decided it was time to walk out the door. Once she was outside with the door safely shut, Jess looked at her real mother.

"I don't like mommy. She's mean. I love you more," The three year old said, laying her small head against Elisa's shoulder with her arms draped on her shoulders.

"I don't like her much either, Jessie. But let's keep that a secret." The small conversation with her child made her both happy and incredibly sad. It only took a few moments to reach Beck and when she did, she smiled and Jessa waved one of her arms wildly in greeting.

"Hey B," Elisa said.

"You're Lissy's friend!" Jessa exclaimed happily.

Beck Hades

As always Elisa looked completely stunning. She wore a white dress with a brown belt that hung far too tightly around her waist for Becks liking. As he looked more and more at her body structure his heart sank low into his stomach. Could he really try and fix her? Could he stop the war in her mind where she was fighting against her self and the food she ate? Beck did not feel good enough to help her, but there was no way he would stop trying to save the person he loved most.

Then his eyes caught on the little bundle of sunshine walking along side her a familiar beautiful grin on her cute face. He knew exactly where she had got that from. It was kind of odd looking at Jess now, he found himself comparing the mother and daughter. How could he have not seen the resemblance before? However, along side all these cute thoughts oddly it was a sense of jealousy that he felt. She had a child with a another guy. At 14. It was so hard to understand, but he had to.

"Hey B,"

"You're Lissy's friend!"

"Yep I am kid!" Beck said giving the girl the kindest smile he could work up. He then knelt on the floor along side her, still reaching just above her height though. The blonde tried to look as friendly as possible which being honest was a pretty hard job for him. He held out his large hand to Jess as though wanting to shake hers formally. "Nice to meet you properly Jess! I'm Beck."

He then looked up at Elisa, with a much quieter and admiring look. "Well someone's beautiful..." Beck chuckled lightly, still at Jess's height. "How are you feeling today?"

With the exception of hair color and eyes, Jessa did look a lot like her mother did when she was young. They had the same cheeks, the same smile, pale skin, similar noses, and even made some of the same faces when they were frustrated or sad. Her father's eyes and ginger hair though, were enough to remind Elisa that the boy had once existed and wasn't just a sad dream. She gave her daughter's hand a little squeeze before letting her go.

"Nice to meet you properly Jess! I'm Beck."

Jessa's smile somehow managed to grow a little wider when Beck acknowledged her. She shook his hand with her own, that was smaller than his entire palm. "You're so tall and you're hair is so long," The toddler said, grasping at a piece of blonde hair and looking bewildered. All the men in her life were perfectly manicured with short hair and always looked so cold and professional.

Elisa bit down on her bottom lip, hoping that Jess wasn't coming off as rude and she shifted uncomfortably from foot to foot. She watched the two interact, unsure of what to say or do. It was kind of cute, watching Beck and Jess, but it was so unusual to see her daughter with anyone Elisa considered a friend.

"Well someone's beautiful..."
"How are you feeling today?"

"I'm okay," Elisa said with a small smile, ignoring the fact that her own mother had upset her so recently.

"Yesterday, everyone said she was really sick. I think she's pretty even though she's sick." Jess piped up looking back at the brunette happily. She then looked back at Beck and said "I love her and if you're Lissy's friend, you can be mine too. Okay?" Elisa rolled her eyes, though she was clearly amused by her talkative three year old.

Beck Hades.

"You're so tall and you're hair is so long,"

"Yeah I guess so..." He said with a low voice, tilting his head downwards so she could touch his golden hair easier. Surprisingly the youth did not find the situation as odd as he first thought he would. Jess was easy to talk to and bubbling with cute confidence. His mind felt kind of nicely empty at this point. No gangs, no Millie, no suicide. He hoped the day would progress the same, but he would only be greeted by the horror again at night.

"Is that a good or bad thing? Cause I am not really sure myself. A certain someone tells me I look like the creative moody type and I'm not sure if that's nice or not," Beck laughed lightly, before softly curling her own hair around his finger. "And your hair is like fire! That's a good thing; its very pretty."

"I'm okay,"

Beck turned back to his brunette as she spoke, trying to read the emotion on her face but she had always been someone who locked away her heart with so much ease. "Just okay? Excuse me but you are being taken out on a date with a devilishly handsome man who is willing to tip out his wallet for you, I hope you are better than okay!" He joked lightly, not shifting his eyes from Elisa. He was sure that something had pulled her down.

"Yesterday, everyone said she was really sick. I think she's pretty even though she's sick."
"I love her and if you're Lissy's friend, you can be mine too. Okay?"

"Elisa was very sick yesterday, but me and you, we could make her better yeah?" Beck said softly with almost a sigh escaping his lips. He was speaking as though him and Jess had some kind of magic powers that could just take all of Elisa's terrible thoughts away with a click of their fingers. He really wished that reality was that easy. "It would be a honour to be your friend Jess,"

"Is that a good or bad thing? Cause I am not really sure myself. A certain someone tells me I look like the creative moody type and I'm not sure if that's nice or not."

"Um. I don't know. I think it's good. I like your hair." Jess said nodding her head. Elisa locked her eyes on Beck's and gave him a little smile. The two people she loved most in the world were getting along and if anything could make her happy, it was that. Then again, she decided that it was impossible for anyone to hate the sweet little red head but that could have been her own delusion. After all, in her mind Jess was perfect.

"And your hair is like fire! That's a good thing; its very pretty."

"I want hair like my sister," Jessa said with a frown. "Nobody else's hair is like mine. Not mommy, not daddy, not Mr. Alan or Miss Allison." Her ginger locks did make her stand out quite a bit in the house and she didn't understand why she looked different. Nobody knew what to tell her about it either, other than to say she was different and unique. Or, that's what Elisa told her anyway.

"Just okay? Excuse me but you are being taken out on a date with a devilishly handsome man who is willing to tip out his wallet for you, I hope you are better than okay!"

Elisa, again, rolled her eyes but this time at Beck and smiled. "Alright then, I'm absolutely fabulous. What about you? How are you today?" She asked, crossing her arms. Yes, what her mother said had brought her down and she was a little sad, but she could deal with it for now. She wanted to have a good day and to forget everything and to be happy. For once she just wanted to have a happy day.

Jess on the other hand, had heard the word 'date' and immediately her lips made a perfect O shape and she threw her hands on her cheeks. She then, acting as though she could hide what she was about to say from Elisa, stood on her tiptoes and whispered to Beck - though it was quite a loud whisper - "Are you Lissy's boyfriend?" She was always so dramatic about things, like everything was so new and exciting.

"Elisa was very sick yesterday, but me and you, we could make her better yeah?"
"It would be a honour to be your friend Jess,"

"Yeah, we'll make Lissy better," Jess said happily and continued on with: "Mr. Alan, he makes me soup when I'm sick. Lissy doesn't like soup."

"Alright, Jessie. I think it's time to say good bye to Beck now, okay?" Elisa said, not wanting to keep Jess around long enough to make Beck uncomfortable.

"Oh, um, okay." Clearly, the toddler wasn't too fond of the idea, but she had already gotten her way once and she didn't want to push her luck. "Bye-bye, Mr. Beck!"

(MOCK. EXAMS.)

Beck Hades.

"Um. I don't know. I think it's good. I like your hair."
"I want hair like my sister,"

Beck let a honest and wide Cheshire cat grin grow on his face. "Dawh! How cute!" He exclaimed, eyes still looked on the little girl who seemed to mesmerize him. "Elisa does have beautiful hair, but that does not mean you don't Jess," The blonde said, his smile falling a little as he heard the word sister. God this was fucked up. Extremely fucked up. He found it cripplingly uncomfortable.

"Nobody else's hair is like mine. Not mommy, not daddy, not Mr. Alan or Miss Allison."

And that did not exactly let him feel anymore at ease either. His Adams apple bobbed hard in his throat as Beck turned to Elisa with a soft grin, almost reaching out for support on what to say.

"Alright then, I'm absolutely fabulous. What about you? How are you today?"

"Only the same as I always am Elisa," The youth said in a dull tone before sarcastically tugging at the side of his lips into a harsh almost creepy looking fake grin. He seriously could not keep his mind off what he was going to face that night. He was basically getting ready for putting the noose around his neck. It was only a matter of time before the Emeralds kicked the stool and let him fall and break his neck. "Trying to smile, but I at least I will be happy for now. I'm with you after all." As he stated this his pupils pulled away from her gaze and a soft blush rose on his cheeks. He did not even know why.

"Are you Lissy's boyfriend?"

Beck let out a roar of laughter at the girls whispers. With a gentle tug of her arm she leant into her shoulder and replied with. "Give me a little while. I might be then. Shhh though!" With a wink he stood up to normal height, both towering over Elisa and little tiny Jess.

"Alright, Jessie. I think it's time to say good bye to Beck now, okay?"
"Bye-bye, Mr. Beck!"

"Oh okay! Cya kid!" Beck said with a soft wave. Cute kid huh.

Beck Hades.

"We don't have hair like yours because we're not as special as you are, Jessie."
"Your hair is beautiful just like you."

Well she most certainly saved the day there didn't she? Beck let out a deep exhale of relief and lowered his head, stroking the front of his blonde fringe with his fingers. Elisa seemed to be able to pluck words from her mouth and they were always what people needed to hear. It was a gift that not many people had at all. It was something that Beck might have needed. He needed words like that said to him to take the thoughts of violence and fear from his poor muddled mind. They were selfish ideas, especially considering yesterdays occurrences, but it was what he wished for. As Jess let out a cute round of laughter the youth lifted his head, managing a smile at the brunette's quick thinking. He most certainly appreciated it.

"He definitely wishes he were,"

Beck might have found his skin changing a light colour of red. He turned his face to the left to hide it and forced out a chuckle of pleasant laughter. "Is that a problem Elisa?" He stated. It was clear his tone was meant to be somewhat jokey but instead it sounded formal and forced. The blonde was not the best at hiding things at all; Elisa was clearly blind if she was unable to see his feelings.

"She likes you that's for certain."

"So I did not terrify the living shit out of the poor chick then?" He asked softly. "She's adorable. Though I find it incredibly sad that she see's you as her sister. You will tell her when she's a little older wont you?" Beck said, wondering if he was stepping into rather touchy areas with this conversation. That little girl would have to grow up having another little girl as a Mother, a single Mother at that. Part of him wished that Elisa did not have Jess holding her back in life, he tried to push the wish to the back of his mind but it still hung there somewhere.

He began to make his way back through the gates and away from her very odd and tidy home. The youth looked back over his shoulder at Elisa, admiring her clothes and the way her hair fell perfectly on her shoulders another time. "You look stunning... You know that?"

"Are you looking forward to today or just dreading being dragged around with me?"

Elisa Grace.

Despite the food already much cooler than when it first arrived, the small bite she had taken burned like acid as it crawled down her throat. She was so repulsed by just a simple bite that she thought she would fall apart right in front of Beck. She could feel anxiety sneaking up on her and taking hold. Her hands began to shake and she put them in her lap, trying to hide her trembling. Food was the one thing she had control over in her life. It was the only thing she felt like she had a choice over. She didn't have to eat if she didn't want to and so she never did. Over time that choice had turned into a nagging voice in her head that food was disgusting and that if she consumed it she too would be disgusting. All food did was make you fat and that's what she told herself, so she restricted and restricted until she was a skeletal little freak hiding under layers of clothing.

She couldn't hold the tears back anymore and buried her face in her shaking hands, letting out choking sobs. She felt so pathetic and weak. So many people had worse problems than her and here she was crying because a boy she loved wanted her to eat. "I can't. I can't do it." She said between cries.

It took her a decent amount of time to calm down, leaving her eyes red and cheeks tear stained. She couldn't look at Beck, she couldn't look at the food, and so she stared off into the distance like she often did. Why did everything have to be so complicated and horrible? She just wanted to be normal for once.

"He and a handful more are coming with me. We were given a location and a time. They said they would stop hurting my members in unnecessary circumstances if I stopped being a coward and showed my identity. I don't understand why they care so much about me but they do, and if I can end the violence then I shall."

She stared at him for a long moment, trying to wrap her head around the situation. She didn't understand the gang feud at all. What were they fighting over? Why did they hate each other? Was it just some giant turf war like she use to see on the news when she was living in LA? "I don't want you to get hurt. I just got you, I don't want to lose you." She felt like she was repeating herself, but she was so terrified for him and she knew she couldn't stop it. It was one more thing in her life that was out of control.

"They said it would be a small group meeting us and that they promised no violence unless we kicked something up ourselves, but the Emeralds have been known for being little shits and not keeping there words. After that I leave...and I don't know what they will want after that. I know they deem me unreasonable to be a gang leader, because I hide my face. When they know I am the one they got their hands on and cut up a while ago, I will be a laughing stock."

"Beck..." She wasn't sure what to tell him. She could tell him not to go yet again but she knew that wouldn't do anything. Elisa bit down on her lip, wrapping her arms around herself despite knowing she should be comforting him. He looked just as broken as she was and it was tearing her apart, but at the same time she was blaming him for going. He didn't have to. He could run away and she wouldn't look at him any differently, but he wouldn't.

"I was just taking my mind off things."

She was just about to respond to him when she saw the man in the alley, the same face she had seen a few days earlier. She straightened her back and focused her eyes on his. This man, this Leon, she hoped would keep Beck safe. Her stare had turned into a bit of a glare before she turned back to Beck.

"Come on Elisa it is getting late...it is time to take you home."

"You had better come back for me then. In one piece. I don't care if you're some scary gang leader. I will kick your ass if you break my heart," She meant it to be teasing and light hearted, but she just sounded broken and terrified.

Malachai.

When someone with very little money suddenly ends up with a large chunk of it for doing nothing at all, it can change a person. The change can be good or, as it did with Malachai, it can be very bad. Three years ago Malachai had been offered fifteen thousand dollars to never contact Elisa Grace again. For a young boy who had barely enough to eat at the time, he couldn’t bring himself to say no to the deal. He loved the girl, or at the time he had believed he did, but he was tired of starving and living with his abusive family members. As it turns out, he was far too young and immature to be given such a vast amount of finances.

As the months went on he squandered it, buying guitars and getting himself involved in all sorts of nasty things. Eventually, when his money ran out and he was on the streets, he found a new circle of “friends.” Their lifestyle intrigued him and he joined the gang known as “The Emeralds.” In a small amount of time he found himself hurting people just because he enjoyed doing it and doing more drugs than he could ever remember getting his hands on. He became a brand new person and someone who loved him once would never recognize him. If you saw a picture of him from before, you just might be able to place him.

He waited and waited for the right time to come, when the leader of “The Shards” would show his pathetic little face. He stood in a corner with a toothpick hanging from his lips, red hair hanging over his eyes with a twisted grin on his face. He was taller these days and not nearly as scrawny, the once adventurous glean in his eyes had turned into something far more sinister…Though they were the same shade and shape as another little girl living in the same town, they even shared the same hair. However, Malachai knew nothing about that and even if he did, it was unlikely he would give a shit unless it somehow benefited him.

Malachai’s crazy ruthlessness was somewhat feared throughout the gang and though he hadn’t quite reached alpha status, he was pretty close and the first in command kept him by his side. The red head fiddled with a sharp knife he had held in his hands, handling it like a pro and doing all sorts of tricks while he waited.

He was going to have fun tonight.
