Keldacia At War

Keldacia At War

0 INK

Keldacia is a vast land full of magic, monsters and (most recently) war. The Sentrillian Empire has begun expanding and hopes to take over the entirety of Keldacia. Will you join the war, or will you merely be an adventurer looking to make a living?

1,348 readers have visited Keldacia At War since DecroMcQuin created it.

Introduction

History:
Keldacia was far from a land of peace what with the dragons, feuding barbarian clans and raiders, as well as mischievous magical tree stumps here and there, but it was a bit more peaceful than what it is now. 10 years ago Emperor Typhan, lord of the Sentrillian Empire, invaded the neighboring provinces of Malnir, Toriph, and Feyten, conquering them and continuing onward in their conquest. Many nobles banded together and gathered their armies to hold back the Empire from invading their territory and has held the line for the past three years. This alliance became known as Legion after their first victory and is lead by a High Paladin know as Lord Fairfax. The fight is still fought and has become a main part of every day living in the central lands of Keldacia. Who will you fight for, or will you fight at all?

World Background: Standard fantasy races (Elves, Dwarves, Halflings, Orcs, etc.) exist in this world and live together in relative peace as well as any that you want to come up with, creativity is welcome and greatly encouraged. Magic is abundant in this world so magical beings like nature spirits, elementals and demons are very common sights. Those who practice magic typically fall into one of two magical schools; Arcane and Sanctifius. Arcane being manipulation of magical forces like the elements or matter, and Sanctifius being holy magic, invoked from the power of gods by priests and shamans. Apart from these two magical schools there are also lesser magicks like spell songs and nature magic used by spirits (Any magical powers you want to add that are within reason can also be added).

You can be whatever type of character you like, a solider or general fighting the war, a mercenary, or just a simple adventurer who has nothing to do with the war. I hope to have a lot of different types of characters and to have a fairly epic story, so don't be shy.

Upon hearing the news that Lord Fairfax had told her, Serafina crossed her arms over her chest and her face began to darken. "Things are still looking dark as usual. Now Gallia has fallen and King Austin is missing." She muttered under her breath clearly irritated that the empire is not slowing down. She took a few deep breaths to calm herself down and that's when Lord Fairfax told her that coming here was a mistake on his men's part, there were plans about the Citadel, King Austin's unbreakable castle held in the city but was given to the empire by someone.

Before she could ask further, she saw a woman in a white dress, complaining and screaming at another person in a aristocracy tone of voice about her obvious displeasure at staying at an inn. Watching the scene unfold, she focused more on the woman then anyone else. She was drawn by her elegant apperance, and she wanted to get to know her a lot better once she completed every single one of her duties. She slightly shook her head to focus on the question she wanted to ask Lord Fairfax. "Shall I accompany you? Or shall I bid you farewell?" She asked looking back at him.

Seras was sitting cross-legged on a street corner near the market district of town idling strumming and tuning his lute, when a man in Gallian armour strode up to him, and asked that he come to meet with his lord at once. A little hazy still from sleep Seras narrowed his eyes and then opened them again as he realized who that lord was. "I trust your lord his the honourable Fairfax then?" He inquired, less as a question and more of a statement. As he stood up he strapped his lute over his back once again and gestured for the solider to take the lead. He let a few paces get between them and then began to follow. All the while Seras was smiling to himself, it seemed he would get paid after all...

"Why, I would be honored if you would accompany me to the library, ju-" Fairfax was saying before being interrupted by the old creaky railing buckling under his weight. "Guess that why you never see anyone leaning on posts in armor" Fairfax said with a voice that hinted towards his slightly bruised ego."No matter, shall we go?" he questioned while standing up and brushing off his armor.

As Fairfax agreed to let her come, the creaking railing supporting him gave way causing him to fall. She gave a faint smile thinking how their great leader fell down thanks to a railing. After Fairfax had dusted himself off and saying in a bruised ego that that's the reason why people in armor never lean on posts, he brushed it off and asked Serafina to get a move on and she replied with a nod and was ready to follow him.

Several Minutes later...

After a few minutes of walking down the desolate streets of Vercess the Paladin and the Mage make it the library just as dawn is seen creeping up off of the peaks of the surrounding hills. "That Bard, Seras and The Merc Glen should be on their way if Croaker got past that fifth drink." Fairfax thought to himself. "Should of sent Strauss, but he insisted on coming with us, he loves any excuse to carry the Standard." Fairfax then stops at the bottom of a set stairs that leads into an old Gothic building where the public library is located. "We just need to wait for some people, it shouldn't be long." he said while then taking a seat on a old creaky bench, staring at the large majestic sunrise.

Elsewhere, Croaker was suffering from massive hangover leading a bard that had some use in his lords plans, he was told to find him and a retired solider named Glen Cormag. While he could not find him he put word out to all the taverns in town and even that old geezer Volger to keep his one good eye out for the boy. A few more weeks of playing errand boy and that promotion was his, he kept thinking to himself.

Seras saw the library at the end of the street, the old solider leading him onward. He noticed that the young women he was speaking to last night was with Lord Fairfax. He patted the solider on the back and told him he could find the rest of the way. His lute still tied to his back, and his sword hanging at his hip he walked up to the heavily armored paladin. He addressed the High lord in a casual manner. "Well Fairfax, how've you been? Keeping everyone marching in line?"

"Why pretty pretty good, wish I could say more about the war through. You must be the Bard Seras, Yes? You wouldn't have seen merc that goes by the name Glen, anywhere no?" Fairfax asked the young bard. Before the bard had a chance to answer, Fairfax suddenly leapt up from the bench and stood tiptoed while his arms were outstretched above his head. Anyone who knows Gallian customs would recognize this as their morning prayer to their god, Lord Dougless. After a minute he stood normally again and asked "You two ready to head inside?" and without another word he walked up the stairs and entered through the massive oak doors.

Serafina didint say anything as they both exchanged greetings, but she instead gave a small wave in his direction. She then watched as Fairfax began to to pray as per Gallian custom to Lord Dougless. She wasn't religious, but more often then not when people go. "My God is great! He loves everyone!" She gets irritated. However now was not the time to be thinking of religion, when Fairfax began to head inside the library she followed behind him.

Apparently, Fairfax's question had been rhetorical as he headed off without waiting for a reply. Typical authority types, he thought to himself, always assuming you'll follow at beck and call. Mentally shrugging he followed inside, answering some of the other questions Fairfax had asked him. "Well I haven't seen a mercenary going by the name of Glen lately, unless he was the one from the inn last night and even if he was I don't know whereabouts he's gotten to. So any particular reason you called for me or did you just want to hear a song?"

Within the Grand Lobby of the Vercess Public Archives

"I called you both here to help find, the lost king of Gallia, as only he has the royal blood to take the empire. Now I know this all may seem sudden, but time is of the essence as while we stand here chatting, the empire has squads out day and night searching for him. And the first place to check should be here where his downfall began, for the plans of the Citadel should tell us where the secret passage ways are located and where he might have ran too." Fairfax explained while walking into the grand lobby, which was entire devoid of people. "As to the reason why specifically you two of course is just as simple, Serafina, you are one of the most powerful wizards in the legion, and Seras, you have contacts or can make some in nearly any city in the world, also I have heard you play good songs on occasion. Plus its always good to keep an eye on any present or ex member of the Dark Poet Brotherhood, no?"

And yet again Fairfax left the group, to peer out a window, without waiting for an answer. "Sorry, the Lord is not usually like this. Its just that he has to play father to his daughter, for she wants to follow in his footsteps. He has men stationed to guard her, but the problem is that no one has ever seen her face cept for the Lord and Lady." Strauss told the party members. He then leans in closer and whispers "They say she is a Aurelia, its Gallian for a rare wizard who can cast any form of magic, which includes Shape-shifting. They say the only people who can tell is the Lord and Lady, and Father Pecro."

Seras coughed and gave a brief stare at Lord Fairfax for bringing up some of his more sordid past. "I don't associate with that particular group of individuals anymore" He said in a tone far stiffer than his usual, more laid back one, he paused before continuing in his more normal manner. "Still I am flattered that you hold my skills in such good regard."
As Fairfax left the group again, Seras idly picked a random book off a nearby shelf and turned a few pages, zoning out slightly and only catching a few snippets of what Strauss said. He placed the book back on the shelf and called back over to Fairfax. "So is there anything we should be looking out for? Some defining seal or mark?"

what would she look like this time? an old hag? a gruff sailor? or a young vixen that she loves troubling me with so. Fairfax thought while peering onto the street. Aha there she is, transformed into my wife no doubt, boy is her mother going to- Fairfax was thinking in-till Seras interrupted. He glanced over absent mindlessly towards the group, than darted back to call out for his daughter, but she was not there, For Dougless's sake that girl better not get into any trouble. Fairfax than walked back into the group saying "We are looking for books and scrolls that have the Gallian royal seal on them. They are most likely not to be in the correct section due to these being stolen documents after all, so we will probably have to check out the sign-out books and ask the staff. Seras and Strauss I entrust you with that and Serafina can you perform an divination? Now I shall leave you to the cable hands of Strauss and Sir Winston who is in the rafters above you, they don't call them Ghosts for nothing, eh? Oh and if you happen to see the Lady around could you send a signal to Sir Winston?"

When Fairfax asked her if she could preform a divination, she had to think about that. "I'm not entirely sure about that...I have been using my ice magic for a very long time. Perhaps I could try, but don't get your hopes up, I have never done such a thing in my life. So Fairfax, what question do you need to ask me that requires the use of magic?" Serafina spoke before sitting down on the ground to clear her mind of all things.

"Well it is whispered that this thief is good, too good. This thief is thought to be a wizard schooled on deception, and while us Paladins are trained to detect magic, they used it so subtly that not even I can feel the slightest disturbance expect for you of course. So I was hoping a master spell-caster such as yourself could maybe be more fine tuned for illusion magic?" Fairfax half answered, half asked while returning to keep an eye out for his trickster daughter.

Somewhere close by
Hmmph, Kate thought. Dad is always making me wear stupid dresses and staying home while he is off fighting demons, going off on epic adventures, and saving damsels in distress, but this time I'm coming with him whether he knows it or not. Hmm, and who are those two that are standing with Tuffy (Strauss) and Dad? The man looks pretty funny but he must be one of dads old army buddys. And that pretty one with the blue hair? Boy is mom going to freak when she hears about that. The only question left for Kate Fairfax was, now where is Sir Winston looking for me from now? as she entered the archives from one of the many open windows on the second story and watched the group from the shadows.

"So you need me to locate this magical theif? If that's what you require I will give it a shot. So while I am trying to focus please try not to make an excessive amount of noise, it may either cause me to locate a different person entirely, or cause a magical backlash causing my magic to target the closest person near me, worst case scenario I end up freezing myself and most of the area around me." Serafina explained before closing her eyes and began to close her mind and empty her thoughts so she could focus on one thing: a theif that uses magic that has been to the library.

Seras allowed the young mage to concentrate on her task, and wandered around the large shelves of books, examining each of the large tomes searching for any inkling of the old Gallian symbols. The old royal seal was a fairly easy one to identify, that is to say, if one could find it. All of the books were either unmarked by seals or bore ones from different scholarly institutions. Well if it was so easy to find these things they probably would have already been found he thought to himself.
Seras had a slight nagging feeling building, the kind of instinct that comes from a lot of long walks through places that you ought to watch your back lest you get a knife in it. He was quiet sure that someone was watching him, but did not let on that he had sensed their presence. Casually he but his hands on his hips and sighed, checking to make sure Staccato was ready in his belt.

Fairfax was keeping an eye an Serafina when he heard a familiar laugh come from the second floor. He can recognize that laugh anywhere, it usually meant his daughter was near by and was about to start some trouble. He ran up a set of stairs as quietly as a man in heavy plate can, hoping to stop Kate from "having a little fun". When he made it up the stairs just as a woman with vivid red hair (Kate's favorite) disappeared into the row of bookshelf's. Fairfax was pondering to play her little game or not when all of a sudden he heard the rasp of a blade leaving its scabbard from behind. He spun around while pulling out his warhammer to end up facing what he perceived to be a gang of thieves trying to cover their tracks. He stared at the nearest one, the thieve was a big one that looked more gorilla than man, and to top it off the smug man had the gall to grin right at Fairfax. Fairfax only smiled in return as he swung his warhammer at him, sending him crashing through the railing and onto the floor below. The others stopped grinning and with venomous looks they charged.

Serafina soon saw the image of a person appear in her mind. The image was slightly blurry but she could identify the persons features. The figure looked to be a medium sized man in his early 20's, and he wore black clothing and had a aura of someone who used either a blink or shadow melding. She couldent see the mans face clearly enough but she could recognize him if she saw him in reality. Before she safely left her meditation she heard a sudden crashing sound and that caused her jolt awake and causing her magic to go chaotic and shot small waves of ice around her. Although not lethal or dangerious, it would just sting for awhile.

Seras spun on his heel at the sound of crashing and discharged magic. No time for subtlety he dashed towards the sound, drawing Staccato with a shrill hiss of metal on leather. He slid around a corner in time to see a group of shady types charging Fairfax. "Have at thee" He called and ran one of them through before they could turn to face him. The thieves were caught between a flurry of quick thrusts from Seras and the bulwark of Lord Fairfax. With cold eyes and a wolf's smile Seras began to sing a war hymn as he fought.

As they were fighting, Fairfax heard a loud crash of windows shattering, Fairfax spun around, and saw more thieves coming in through the windows using planks to hop from one building to the other, like a crew a pirates during boarding action. Knowing that if those planks were not destroyed now the thieves would swarm them in the matter of seconds, he left Seras to deal to deal with the current group as he charged into a throng trying to nail the boards in from this side. Theses thieves were quickly convinced that their attempt was futile after a few swings of his hammer, and hurried to move onto the next. Two more groups went down this way before an even bigger crash happened when the tiles on the main floor gave way revealing men who looked more like Mercs than thieves. Fairfax was about to jump down to help Serafina, knowing that Strauss and Seras could handle these lightly armored criminals, when he heard the cry of "DAD HELP ME!". Fairfax bolted down rows of bookshelf's towards the noise, however as he got to the area where he thought the scream originated from, a spell slammed into him knocking off the second floor into one of the holes in the ground, the last thing he saw was Sir Winston about to jump off the ledge, to rescue his friend, but mercs quickly pulled him back into the fight above...

After her magical backlash, Sefafina regained her composure to analyze the current situation. Currently there were bandits or mercenaries storming the building and were quickly surrounding her. "Looks like someone tipped them off...I should make sure to keep one alive for questioning." She muttered under her breath as she began to channel her magic.

As the group advanced on her position, she slammed her palm on the floor sending a wave of frozen spikes all around her, destroying the tiles and skewing anyone that was around her position. Afterwards when the number of mercs died down, she drew her sword and with a quick swing of her sword, dispatched one of the mercs who tried to stab her from behind. She then proceeded to make her way to the stairs to reach the higher floors. "First things first, regroup with everyone else and kill anyone that gets in my way." While thinking, she dispatched two more mercenaries that got in her way.

Mercs were pouring into the building through any orifice they could find. They filled the space between the bookshelves like vermin and soon Seras found himself fighting off several different men. Fairfax left as more of the villains started to break in through the windows, and Seras had suddenly lost the advantage he had against his foes.

Slowly he was driven back. He broke away from the attackers, and ran towards one of the nearby bookshelves. The missing spaces in between the books allowed for excellent footholds as Seras climbed onto the thick wooden furniture. "Hell, I've had worse stages." He said as he stabbed Staccato into the wood. In the same fluid motion he unslung his lute from off his back, and started to strum a deathly cold tune. The surrounded bandits were sapped of their strength and began feeling weak and sluggish. A few had already started to climb up to reach the Bard but lost their grip and fell. Some of the bandits who were standing a bit further away or those with a higher constitution would have resisted the spell.

Ten Minutes Earlier

Sir Winston saw the battle take place from his vantage point in the rafters above. He quickly scanned the the area to see where he might be needed most when he heard young Lady Fairfax scream for help from an area when no mercs were coming from. suspiciously he moved in the rafters towards the noise and was about to jump down when he noticed Fairfax reach the exact same spot. Winston watched from the shadows as of all sudden some people in rather odd looking armor sent Fairfax crashing through the railing and into a hole in the floor below. Outraged, Winston dropped down and started to hack his way through the newcomers to reach his friend. When he made it to the edge all Winston could do was jump down after him, only that some mercs appeared where there used to be the newcomers who preceded to drag him into the fray.

Serafina climbed the stairs to the second floor just as she heard someone singing. She recognized the voice from Seras but she also noticed in the distance that some of the bandits and mercs grow visibly weak. Her thoughts quickly changed to more hostiles rushing at her, but with a slash of her sword she sent a slash of ice in their direction and watched as the men got cut in two. "I have to remember to leave at least one of them alive...at this rate i'm bound to kill everyone I see." She muttered to herself before making her way through the library to meet up with Seras since she was certain that Fairfax could hold his own against some bandits and mercs.

The bandits seemed to be swarming like rats around Seras's perch a top the book cases. Many of them seemed to be falling back, too weakened by his spell to try reaching him, but a strong few were still making upwards headway towards him. One of them made the mistake of putting his hand on the top only to be stomped on by Seras and sent back down with the rest of the advancing brigands.

Seras continued kicking and lashing at his climbing attackers when he noticed a familiar blue clad figure reach the second floor landing. If he could manage to hold out for a bit longer the two of them would probably be able to push back their foes.

Re: Keldacia At War

It's awsome we are getting more people to join, I'm still eager to continue and waiting for the others to post. Anyways what should we do about the people that haven't posted? Should we continue without them and PM them while we are at it?

Re: Keldacia At War

Please do, I'd be happy to include as many as people as possible.
