Master Tactician, Grandmaster of The Fairfax Order, and Leader of The Legion

0 · 288 views · located in Keldacia

a character in “Keldacia At War”, as played by ThirdWinnerzs

Description

Name(s): Lord Fairfax
Gender: Male
Age: Unknown
Race/Species: Human
Profession/occupation: Grandmaster
Height: 6'7"
Weight: 190lbs of pure muscle
Build: Ripped

Lord Fairfax (his first name is known only to his most trusted friends) comes from a long line of Paladins, to which he serves Lord Dougless God of all Living and Dead (And everything in between). Not much is known about his past, as he prefers to keep it shrouded in mystery, some suspect his family was butchered by orks and that this is why he has a blinding hatred for them. Others think that Lord Dougless was displeased with something that Fairfax had done. He is suave and a gentleman to boot, but beware as he can be quick to temper.

Equipment (This is straight off my D&D pally also called Fairfax, and his gear took a lot of grinding 400+ hours but worth it, no?)
Master-crafted Enchanted 2H Ultra Greatsword "Truth"
Master-crafted Enchanted War-hammer "Reconciliation"

Has two sets of Armour
My main D&D gear, aka god Armour (Master-crafted Enchanted full plate "Judgement ")
And more realistic Master Crafted Plate "Repent" (has half the stats of Judgement, and I will be using this most of the time so not to go all god mode on you all)

So begins...

Meanwhile about 2 km from the gates of Vercess

"Are you sure we are on the way to Kingsbury? I do not seem to remember any of this landscape" The Sargent explained to the corporal in charge of map reading. "Why yes but my guess wee should be able to see it just about... now" he said as they walked around a small hill revealing Vercess. The Sargent yells back to the corporal "BY HOLY DOUGLESS! YOU HAD THE BLEEDING MAP UPSIDE DOWN! THE COMMANDER IS GOING T-" "Fall off his horse Sargent Strauss?" interrupted Lord Fairfax. "While that may not be the case I am rather upset about the matter, no matter the men needed a break away. Strauss give the lad some mess duty and meet me on the small rise over yonder and bring the Standard and Full Colors aswell." "Yes Sir!, you heard the man to the mess double time!" Strauss stammered out while marching out. Maybe I should have left the map reading to Sir Winston, but I need my men to feel like they are doing something good with all this marching waiting for the Empires next move, Fairfax thought to himself.

A few minutes later and the commanders all meet on the small rise overlooking Vercess with a nice soft glow coming from the moon behind it. "Sir Winston and Archduke Bubbers are here my lord, and Strauss is coming out with the Father Pecro and the standard as we speak." a Paladin briefed to his Lord. "Good. Now on to the task at hand, Sir Winston I want you to take the Ghosts and scout out the hills, while I will march down to the gates with Strauss and request that our army lodge there for a night. Bubbers I want you here with the main force, be cautious with all those assassins on the lookout for Gallian blood. Now Tally-Ho!" Fairfax commanded while parting with his command squad down the old dirt road.

Just outside the gates of Vercess

"Is Sir Winston in position?" Fairfax asked. "Aye sire, he will commence the attack if things go south." answered Strauss. After a few moments of silence they reached the thick wooden gates of Vercess. Through his helmet he saw the men on walls standing with their jaws wide open in surprise as the Commander of The Legion marches towards them, without notice. "Is- is th-that the Gallain Standard?" stammered one guard, "By all that is holy, I thought the empire wiped them all out, if they are still alive then the only one who can challenge their rein must be to" another guard explained. "Oi shut up ye two, ye all know that the Empire threw everything they had at King Austin, now act like soldiers and stand up straight!" The Sargent half-whispered-half-yelled at the men.

However redundant the question the Sargent asked while sending someone to awake the Governor and the Lieutenant "Who goes there?". "Lord Fairfax of Gallia, Commander of the Legion along with Sir Winston and Arch Duke Bubbers, also of Gallia." Decreed Strauss. "And what is your business, in our peaceful town?". "Our Navigator had us take a wrong turn somewhere (he stares at the corporal in the back), and we are simply requesting that we be allowed to spend the night inside your walls, plus the boys could use some R&R." Strauss explained. after a few minutes a drowsy Governor and a young and drunk Lieutenant was caught up to speed. the Governor who just spent the evening entertaining guest had just retired for the night when a young solider came panting to his room saying "The Gallians are here!". "Well it will be our honor to let you and your men spend the night in our town." Governor Necro (All Gallians receive a nickname and see it as a badge of honor to display.) told the awaiting party.

"Alright, they seem friendly enough but keep an eye out a Gallian head comes with quite a bounty these days. And don't worry about sending anyone back, Sir Winston probably has already sent a messenger to the Duke." Fairfax warned his command squad as the old gates creaked open, revealing a small crowd of worshipers determined to have a blessing by The High Priest Himself "This will be a long night for the Faithful, I must request to take Brother Gallus for protection and help my sire." Fairfax only nodded as he and the rest trotted through the crowd looking for inns to house his men.

(OOC: since no one else seems to be posting...)

After passing the flock of people at the gate, Fairfax with his command squad in tow head towards the biggest inn in town (there are only two along with a bed & breakfast town house) "The Drunken Hole". While stopping by the Come-On-Inn for a drink and to see an old friend. "3 mugs of your strongest dwarven brew, and tell Croaker to get out here and to bring his bard contact he was telling me about." said Fairfax. "Very well" the bartender grunted. Fairfax then went to lean on the creaky old railing outside and thought about the order he gave out to send trainers to every town and struggle with who he sent out here. "I was never good with names. Was it the blue eyed or the blue hair one? both? no it must of been that guy with the lightish red armor, yeah that seems right he alwasy did like taking the rear." Faxfair thought out-loud.

As Serafina walked through the town, she noticed someone that she thought she would never see. The Legions leader, Lord Fairfax was walking down the street before entering the inn she had just left. Being curious and wanting to see how the war was doing, she decided to go talk to him. As she turned around and began to walk back to the inn, Fairfax left the inn and began to lean on a creaky railing and talking to himself which she overheard.

"Well if it isn't Lord Fairfax, fancy meeting you here sir. And the name is Serafina, not blue eyed or blue haired." She called out to him before standing a few feet away from him. "Anyways, I'm not going to question why you are here. How is the Legion doing in the war? It's been awhile since I last heard of a progress report." She spoke all businesslike.

"Huh? Oh yes Serafina, The Frozen Witch you have my dearest apologies. Must of had too much to drink and not enough to think as my mentor always used to say." Fairfax responds. He then leans closer on the railing making it creak even more "And to confirm the rumors, yes Gallia in the north has fallen and King Austin is no where is in sight. And no need to fret through my men think its a mistake of us coming here, this could hardly be farther than the truth. It seems that hidden in the grand library of this very town were the plans to the Citadel, King Austin's unbreakable castle, and someone found them and had given them to the empire and so I am here to find out who."

Then all of sudden, and seemingly out of no where comes a woman dressed in all white with a shrill and a hint of aristocracy "Is this the place we shall be staying at?! It is most unfitting for people of Noble blood!" she screams. "Plus the Lady wanted a little vacation with the kids" he whispers and nods towards Lady Fairfax. "Sir Winston, may you please take the Lady to the (he stresses) proper quarters, and no pouting you signed up for this you know." he orders. "Would you care for a stroll to the library; my Lady." he says while gesturing with his hand toward a large menacing building in the distance " My contact should be told to meet us there."

Upon hearing the news that Lord Fairfax had told her, Serafina crossed her arms over her chest and her face began to darken. "Things are still looking dark as usual. Now Gallia has fallen and King Austin is missing." She muttered under her breath clearly irritated that the empire is not slowing down. She took a few deep breaths to calm herself down and that's when Lord Fairfax told her that coming here was a mistake on his men's part, there were plans about the Citadel, King Austin's unbreakable castle held in the city but was given to the empire by someone.

Before she could ask further, she saw a woman in a white dress, complaining and screaming at another person in a aristocracy tone of voice about her obvious displeasure at staying at an inn. Watching the scene unfold, she focused more on the woman then anyone else. She was drawn by her elegant apperance, and she wanted to get to know her a lot better once she completed every single one of her duties. She slightly shook her head to focus on the question she wanted to ask Lord Fairfax. "Shall I accompany you? Or shall I bid you farewell?" She asked looking back at him.

"Why, I would be honored if you would accompany me to the library, ju-" Fairfax was saying before being interrupted by the old creaky railing buckling under his weight. "Guess that why you never see anyone leaning on posts in armor" Fairfax said with a voice that hinted towards his slightly bruised ego."No matter, shall we go?" he questioned while standing up and brushing off his armor.

As Fairfax agreed to let her come, the creaking railing supporting him gave way causing him to fall. She gave a faint smile thinking how their great leader fell down thanks to a railing. After Fairfax had dusted himself off and saying in a bruised ego that that's the reason why people in armor never lean on posts, he brushed it off and asked Serafina to get a move on and she replied with a nod and was ready to follow him.

Several Minutes later...

After a few minutes of walking down the desolate streets of Vercess the Paladin and the Mage make it the library just as dawn is seen creeping up off of the peaks of the surrounding hills. "That Bard, Seras and The Merc Glen should be on their way if Croaker got past that fifth drink." Fairfax thought to himself. "Should of sent Strauss, but he insisted on coming with us, he loves any excuse to carry the Standard." Fairfax then stops at the bottom of a set stairs that leads into an old Gothic building where the public library is located. "We just need to wait for some people, it shouldn't be long." he said while then taking a seat on a old creaky bench, staring at the large majestic sunrise.

Elsewhere, Croaker was suffering from massive hangover leading a bard that had some use in his lords plans, he was told to find him and a retired solider named Glen Cormag. While he could not find him he put word out to all the taverns in town and even that old geezer Volger to keep his one good eye out for the boy. A few more weeks of playing errand boy and that promotion was his, he kept thinking to himself.

Seras saw the library at the end of the street, the old solider leading him onward. He noticed that the young women he was speaking to last night was with Lord Fairfax. He patted the solider on the back and told him he could find the rest of the way. His lute still tied to his back, and his sword hanging at his hip he walked up to the heavily armored paladin. He addressed the High lord in a casual manner. "Well Fairfax, how've you been? Keeping everyone marching in line?"

"Why pretty pretty good, wish I could say more about the war through. You must be the Bard Seras, Yes? You wouldn't have seen merc that goes by the name Glen, anywhere no?" Fairfax asked the young bard. Before the bard had a chance to answer, Fairfax suddenly leapt up from the bench and stood tiptoed while his arms were outstretched above his head. Anyone who knows Gallian customs would recognize this as their morning prayer to their god, Lord Dougless. After a minute he stood normally again and asked "You two ready to head inside?" and without another word he walked up the stairs and entered through the massive oak doors.

Serafina didint say anything as they both exchanged greetings, but she instead gave a small wave in his direction. She then watched as Fairfax began to to pray as per Gallian custom to Lord Dougless. She wasn't religious, but more often then not when people go. "My God is great! He loves everyone!" She gets irritated. However now was not the time to be thinking of religion, when Fairfax began to head inside the library she followed behind him.

Apparently, Fairfax's question had been rhetorical as he headed off without waiting for a reply. Typical authority types, he thought to himself, always assuming you'll follow at beck and call. Mentally shrugging he followed inside, answering some of the other questions Fairfax had asked him. "Well I haven't seen a mercenary going by the name of Glen lately, unless he was the one from the inn last night and even if he was I don't know whereabouts he's gotten to. So any particular reason you called for me or did you just want to hear a song?"

Within the Grand Lobby of the Vercess Public Archives

"I called you both here to help find, the lost king of Gallia, as only he has the royal blood to take the empire. Now I know this all may seem sudden, but time is of the essence as while we stand here chatting, the empire has squads out day and night searching for him. And the first place to check should be here where his downfall began, for the plans of the Citadel should tell us where the secret passage ways are located and where he might have ran too." Fairfax explained while walking into the grand lobby, which was entire devoid of people. "As to the reason why specifically you two of course is just as simple, Serafina, you are one of the most powerful wizards in the legion, and Seras, you have contacts or can make some in nearly any city in the world, also I have heard you play good songs on occasion. Plus its always good to keep an eye on any present or ex member of the Dark Poet Brotherhood, no?"

And yet again Fairfax left the group, to peer out a window, without waiting for an answer. "Sorry, the Lord is not usually like this. Its just that he has to play father to his daughter, for she wants to follow in his footsteps. He has men stationed to guard her, but the problem is that no one has ever seen her face cept for the Lord and Lady." Strauss told the party members. He then leans in closer and whispers "They say she is a Aurelia, its Gallian for a rare wizard who can cast any form of magic, which includes Shape-shifting. They say the only people who can tell is the Lord and Lady, and Father Pecro."

Seras coughed and gave a brief stare at Lord Fairfax for bringing up some of his more sordid past. "I don't associate with that particular group of individuals anymore" He said in a tone far stiffer than his usual, more laid back one, he paused before continuing in his more normal manner. "Still I am flattered that you hold my skills in such good regard."
As Fairfax left the group again, Seras idly picked a random book off a nearby shelf and turned a few pages, zoning out slightly and only catching a few snippets of what Strauss said. He placed the book back on the shelf and called back over to Fairfax. "So is there anything we should be looking out for? Some defining seal or mark?"

When Fairfax asked her if she could preform a divination, she had to think about that. "I'm not entirely sure about that...I have been using my ice magic for a very long time. Perhaps I could try, but don't get your hopes up, I have never done such a thing in my life. So Fairfax, what question do you need to ask me that requires the use of magic?" Serafina spoke before sitting down on the ground to clear her mind of all things.

"Well it is whispered that this thief is good, too good. This thief is thought to be a wizard schooled on deception, and while us Paladins are trained to detect magic, they used it so subtly that not even I can feel the slightest disturbance expect for you of course. So I was hoping a master spell-caster such as yourself could maybe be more fine tuned for illusion magic?" Fairfax half answered, half asked while returning to keep an eye out for his trickster daughter.

Somewhere close by
Hmmph, Kate thought. Dad is always making me wear stupid dresses and staying home while he is off fighting demons, going off on epic adventures, and saving damsels in distress, but this time I'm coming with him whether he knows it or not. Hmm, and who are those two that are standing with Tuffy (Strauss) and Dad? The man looks pretty funny but he must be one of dads old army buddys. And that pretty one with the blue hair? Boy is mom going to freak when she hears about that. The only question left for Kate Fairfax was, now where is Sir Winston looking for me from now? as she entered the archives from one of the many open windows on the second story and watched the group from the shadows.

"So you need me to locate this magical theif? If that's what you require I will give it a shot. So while I am trying to focus please try not to make an excessive amount of noise, it may either cause me to locate a different person entirely, or cause a magical backlash causing my magic to target the closest person near me, worst case scenario I end up freezing myself and most of the area around me." Serafina explained before closing her eyes and began to close her mind and empty her thoughts so she could focus on one thing: a theif that uses magic that has been to the library.

Seras allowed the young mage to concentrate on her task, and wandered around the large shelves of books, examining each of the large tomes searching for any inkling of the old Gallian symbols. The old royal seal was a fairly easy one to identify, that is to say, if one could find it. All of the books were either unmarked by seals or bore ones from different scholarly institutions. Well if it was so easy to find these things they probably would have already been found he thought to himself.
Seras had a slight nagging feeling building, the kind of instinct that comes from a lot of long walks through places that you ought to watch your back lest you get a knife in it. He was quiet sure that someone was watching him, but did not let on that he had sensed their presence. Casually he but his hands on his hips and sighed, checking to make sure Staccato was ready in his belt.

Fairfax was keeping an eye an Serafina when he heard a familiar laugh come from the second floor. He can recognize that laugh anywhere, it usually meant his daughter was near by and was about to start some trouble. He ran up a set of stairs as quietly as a man in heavy plate can, hoping to stop Kate from "having a little fun". When he made it up the stairs just as a woman with vivid red hair (Kate's favorite) disappeared into the row of bookshelf's. Fairfax was pondering to play her little game or not when all of a sudden he heard the rasp of a blade leaving its scabbard from behind. He spun around while pulling out his warhammer to end up facing what he perceived to be a gang of thieves trying to cover their tracks. He stared at the nearest one, the thieve was a big one that looked more gorilla than man, and to top it off the smug man had the gall to grin right at Fairfax. Fairfax only smiled in return as he swung his warhammer at him, sending him crashing through the railing and onto the floor below. The others stopped grinning and with venomous looks they charged.
