Introduction

Her country is small, an insignificant little thing by the name of En Lome, In Shadow. A fitting name, one would think, for a country living in the particular shadow of a mountain range known as the Neverending Peaks. Enclosed in the North and East by the guarding barrier of a mountain range and to the South and West by great expanses of coastal ridges, En Lome is, at a glance, perfectly protected. The country enjoys fertile soil, a busy port city, an arcane academy bustling with students, a number of busy villages, and a beautiful capital city and yet the country is falling. The descent has been a feather fall, hardly noticeable, but there. It has come to the point where the Queen can no longer ignore the danger; she and her king have no son to take the throne on their death and their only surviving daughter finds the idea of a political marriage distasteful at best. With the growing threat of Ashnaes Empira brewing North of the Peaks and calls for the Princess to marry one of the Aldorei province princes growing louder by the day, the once great queen is doubtful at best.
||En Lome||
-In Shadow-
The most diversely populated country, featuring all species in varying amounts and our setting. Follows a feudal system, but the Writs of Protection are in place; a series of guidelines that keep the serfs in a relatively comfortable position.
|Lyvelune|
-Capital City-
Named for Lyvellen
A city of humble taverns and grand churches. It stands as a great symbol of the country; it is not ostentatious or terribly ornate but it is beautiful and oddly peaceful for such a central point.
|Maslona|
-Largest Port City-
Based out of the lowest point on the country's coast, Maslona is the singular obvious striking point in the kingdom. While it is a weak point, the kingdom is of course aware and has taken measures to protect the area.
|Troumora|
-Institute of Magi-
One of the central draws of the country, the Institute is an establishment of learning and experimentation. It is situated where the mountains and the coast meet, in a precariously devised perch on top of the world, as it would seem. No one but the magi really know what occurs here.
||Ashnaes Empira||
-Empire of Ashe-
Populated mostly by Nephilim; a country made up of a collection of smaller countries with the most demanding geography spanning from great snow topped peaks to volcanic valleys.
|Nillluna|
-Capital City-
A booming metropolis, at least by medieval standards, in honor of the great high empress. Nillluna features towering spires and great monuments to the glory of the empire.
|Selenora|
-Largest Port City-
An impressive and constantly busy coastal city, Selenora boasts some of the best goods in any of the kingdoms. It does not, however, boast low prices or a low crime rate.
||Aldorei||
-Gold Province-
Principally populated by Humans with the odd elf; a country of rolling hills and farmland. Follows the feudal system but, unlike En Lome, their people are starting to feel frustrated with their places in life.
|Cyolian Septine|
-Capital City-
Known as the city of purity, Cyolian is something of a very, very large church. A place of worship, pilgrimage, and beautiful architecture the city's least impressive feature is the fact that it hosts the royal family.
|Hyrela Pass|
-Passage through the Peaks-
One of the only passable places in the whole of the Neverending Peaks, the Pass is far from a suitable attack point but it serves the very important role of transporting small caravans of traders from Aldorei to En Lome. However, the passage also brings a number of... less than wanted passengers
|||Species|||
||Human||
Humans make up the majority of the world's population. What they lack in individual strength they make up for in numbers and so they make up the majority of royalty and people in power.
|Mundane|
Average humans are humans just as you know them; they have what one might call a natural appearance; all earth tone skin and hair. They often attempt to emulate other species by dying their hair, painting their skin, and the like but in the end they are human and just that.
|Mystic|
Some special humans have unique talents that could only be called mystical; these people, like all people with power, are coveted and feared by others who do not share their abilities. Their magic can be anything, but in the end they are human and most lead human lives. Some are confined to college strongholds, other retreat their of their own accord.
||Elf||
Elves are an ancient and quiet people. Their long bodies and ears, beautiful faces and rainbow of colors tend to set them apart from average species.
|Lunar|
Lunar elves; followers of the Goddess.
Lunar elves tend to have darker skin with long ears, close to their head, that curl over slightly at the tip. They prefer to travel and are especially talented at music and magic. They are commonly seen as traveling bards, or even mercenaries.
|Solar|
Solar elves; followers of the God.
Solar elves have lighter skin with long, pointed ears the extend slightly from their head. They are stationary, usually living in villages in natural places, close to the sky, like cliffs, coasts, or forests. They are commonly home makers, farmers, and warriors and are gifted hunters.
||Nephilim||
Nephilim are an expansive and diverse species of half-breeds; appearing human but sharing the characteristics of many mythical creatures. No one knows quite how the Nephilim came to be but with their tall, strong bodies and unique mix of the best properties of humanity and magic they are respected as very strong, though their numbers are few.
|Dracoi|
Dracoi are tall and long. Their skin comes in many colors and can be found in almost any tone, though they are commonly some tint of red, orange, or yellow. Their true talent lies with fire, predictably. All Dracoi share an inherent love of power, gold, and freedom. They certainly don't like chains. They have sharp teeth, mischievous eyes, and a powerful tail that sweeps behind them. Some Dracoi have horns, some even have scales in places like their back and forearms, but they all have hauntingly human faces.
|Fae|
The Fae are a powerful race of mystics, skilled in that art of magic. An experienced Fae is very skilled in projecting illusions and they simply love to tease others. They are mischievous but generally sweet and always coveted for their magic. They are usually pastel in color, though some have been known to sport something like completely black skin or another odd feature. They share a special bond with animals.
|Kapre|
Kapre are the friendly jokester type and are almost always male. Associated with trees and often seen as forest spirits, the Kapre is generally a gentle soul. They resemble the trees they love so dearly in some ways, with skin ranging from 'normal' skin tones to bark like browns and greens with all of their being similarly colored, but they resemble a sort of impish elf in expression and temperament. They have a particular interest in other species, and a Kapre that is attracted to a female of a different race is known to follow her closely where ever she will go, like an annoying Cheshire cat.
|||Leaders|||
||En Lome||
|Solein Arlette|
-King-
A loyal and well meaning man, though not exactly the best of leaders. The king is a good man at heart, all of his people adore him for his charm and smiles, but he is a weak leader. He is poor at winning wars and, though preferring peace, is not good at successfully inspiring it.
|Cyllene Arlette|
-Queen-
A dedicated and loving Queen and the heir to the throne by birth after the early death of her younger brother. Cyllene loves her people and her family. She adores her country and all of it's inhabitants but she knows change is coming. She and her husband are both crossing into old age. Soon all of her hard work will be passed to her heir, her darling daughter, and though she adores her child she fears for her country.
|Niami Arlette|
-Princess-
The completely disinterested princess of En Lome. Niami is bored by princess work. She despises her tutoring and her need to be lady like and poised and wishes she could be anything else.
||Ashnaes Empira||
|Miseyla Andreyine|
-High Empress-
The deviously ruthless Dracoi leader of the Empire, Andreyine is a feared ruler and powerful general. Her armies are large, complemented by the enslaved inhabitants of smaller countries hers has already absorbed, and the surrounding countries fear her above all threats.
|Karemia Aussette|
-High Court Advisor-
Residing in En Lome, though loyal to her empress, Ausette's role is to quietly observe and interact with the royal family of En Lome. Her very presence in the country makes the royal family uncomfortable; she is strange, loud, and has an awful tendency to inspire frustration in the other diplomats. It certainly doesn't help that she is best known for her lust after power and her very... odd collection of various sentient beings she calls interesting.
||Aldorei||
|Hilde Orndacil|
-Grand Reagent-
The sister of the now diseased queen, Hilde is the next closest relation to the royal family and as such has taken her place as ruling reagent until such a time that one of the remaining children of the late kind and queen are able to take their place as true monarch. Her motives are questionable and many believe it her intention to steal the crown permanently.
|Zachariah Alhei|
-High Knight-
As acting high knight, Zachariah has the most power in the provinces. However, his choices are being loudly questioned by Hilde. Being far more qualified to rule, yet not exactly excited to stand against the acting queen, Zachariah's is on the verge of being quietly overthrown.
|Princes|
-Royal Family Members-
The Kindroth family has been the ruling family in Aldorei for generations. Though they are recognized at the crowning family, their rule is merely for show. The true ruler in Aldorei is the ruling knight and his advisers. This frees the royal family time enough to perform the many questionable activities they have been known to. *There is an open slot here for up to three princes which can be from one or multiple authors! :33*
|||Religion|||
||Cyolee||
|God of the Sun|
-Worshiped in Aldorei.-
Cyolee is the god of the sun and of masculinity. He represents strength and bravery and all things stereotypically male. His worship is centered in the highly religious Aldorei provinces; where great temples to the sun and his grace are abundant. He is prayed to for good growing seasons, luck in battle, and often for relatives to come home safely from war.
||Lyvellen||
|Goddess of the Blue Moon|
-Worshiped in En Lome.-
Lyvellen is the goddess of all things feminine and driven by emotion. Representing the sides of the realm and of humanity most often associated with females (passion, love, motherhood, femininity, sweetness, night time, etc.), Lyvellen is the leading deity of En Lome's official ideology. It is believed that her will brings good tides, strong rains, and good luck in love and other affairs of the heart.
||Cyolee & Lyvellen||
|From the beginning of time there were two.|
-Rarely worshiped in conjunction any longer. The division stems from arguments in both faith and politics between Aldorei and En Lome.-
Partnered from the start of all existence, the tale of Cyolee and Lyvellen is supposed to be the greatest love story of all time. As the story goes, their love bore forth the realm in full; every creature, every object, everything that has ever been or will be stemmed from their adoration. Cyolee and Lyvellen were worshiped as a pair for hundreds, even thousands of years, but a difference in policy between the two main countries of worship has divided them.
||Kyri-nhal||
|Deity of Nephilim and Gender Neutral God of the Red Moon|
-Genderless trickster deity ruling over the realm of all things Nephilim.-
Born of the stars, Kyri-nhal's existence is shrouded in mystery. Zhe is a powerful deity, a talented and devoted trickster and shape-shifter, and while this is agreed upon by most of zhir worshipers, there is still a definitive lack of unity when it comes to the Red God's lore. The only thing that is commonly agreed upon that Kyri has been involved with was the creation of Nephilim, and even this is heavily debated. Prayers to Kyri-nhal are usually about power or combat; sometimes war.
The king is seeking alliance with his advisers in the Aldorei Provinces, and his queen is on her way to Maslona for not so glamorous negotiations. The princess has gone missing, and the queen is seeking out hired swords to assist in finding her as quietly as possible. Soon, however, news will be brought that the king has followed in his daughter's footsteps and completely disappeared. Such royal absences in the face of war, and the idea that the Aldorei could have easily killed the king, are not welcome things to hear to the Queen. However, this is a chance for heroes, and foes, to stand up for, and against, the royal family of En Lome. Nobles seeking to usurp, suitors seeking the princess' hand, mercenaries looking to make some easy gold, scholars looking to stand in the face of history; all will gather in En Lome to hear the call of power changing hands.

. For a time, the only sounds are the soft, sleepy murmurings of a waking castle. The cooks set to work on the morning meal, the first cycle of night guardsmen are sent to their rest by the morningmen, and the princess' lady-in-waiting comes tapping at her door. But there is no princess within. In response, a call rises up and the castle is soon in uproar; all off-duty guards are called to the search, whispers of foul play run through the court, a din of agitation to break the classically still air.
. The queen tries to keep her poise, though the tumult of voices and footsteps does little to help her composure. Her face is drawn tight in frustration but she tries to look thankful for the flock of noblemen now competing for her regal attentions. Her daughter is missing, her husband is out of reach, and the normal order of her castle is in shambles. This is dangerous and she knows it all too well. She is already scheduled for a journey to Maslona for... negotiations and putting them off any longer would be more than unwise. Her daughter could be anywhere now.
. With heavy heart, and an unwelcome band of noblemen gathered near, the final preparations for the queen's short journey are made. All she has to offer her missing daughter for now are prayers and a search part organized by her loyal constable.

Down in the streets, the guards were moving about as if the town had come under siege. They ran about the morning crowd, pushing citizens out of their way as they moved to the gates in droves. Something was going on, that much was not lost on the dracoi. What he didn't know what was going on.
Now encouraged to make his daily audience with the queen far earlier than usual, Raciall rushed into his room. He threw his mage robes on as quickly as he could, while still keeping them neat and comfortable. Next on was his shortsword, its sheath, and the belt that held them up, quickly followed up by his satchel filled with books. With some quick checks and adjustments to his belts, and Raciall was ready to make an audience with the queen.
Opening the door to his home, Raciall made his way into the streets. He made sure to say his morning "Hello" to all the merchants that he worked with as he moved down the streets. Several times, he had to look up and find the castle because of the packed streets that Raciall usually came out later to avoid such.
Upon reaching the castle, Raciall had more than a few close calls as guards rushed about the castle to figure out where the people they needed to inform where. This did little to delay Raciall as he made his swift steps towards the Throne Room.
When he reached the open doors, Raciall immediately spotted the horde of leeches who were known as nobles. They never seemed to do anything to help anyone but themselves. It disgusted him to know that they spent so much time licking boots when they had the knowledge and skill to help the world run effectively. They all seemed like they had no will to make their own money, something that Raciall believed everyone should have to do.
Walking into the horde, Raciall was bumped aside several times before the leeches began to push his buttons. He normally did his best to avoid the times that they sought audiences for a good reason. However, after one too many impacts, Raciall had enough. Crash! The sound of thunder echoed through the halls as the unhappy noble looked at his fellow peers. "What purpose could you all possibly be serving by swarming the queen like flies when there is obviously some important task?!" The steaming Raciall shouted at his "peers."
With a now clear path to the queen, Raciall took a deep breath and walked up beside the knight that had made his way to an audience and knelt. "I am sorry that you had to see that my queen. What has disrupted the serenity of the kingdom, and how may I assist in its restoration?" Raciall asked as calm and polite as he could muster, before standing up and letting his black hair, copper arms, and arm scales show to the nobles standing behind him and the knight.
"If the army continues to increase in size, then we must cut other expenditures or at least raise taxes." Marco, the treasurer of Maslona suggested to his lord. "I say that we raise taxes on prostitution, grain, trade, and tariffs."
Vaiven looked through the financial logs with a puzzled look on his face. Their were numbers missing. Fifty thousand silvers over the coarse of the decade to be exact. Marcus' work as always. "I could always raise taxes or cut expenses, but..." His dagger came down on the man's hand with force. "I would rather cut you out of the picture entirely. Take him to dungeons to rot away." He told the guards, who hauled the screaming man away. The duke planned to give the man's property to the citizens of Maslona as a stimulus and without Marcus laundering money the funds would have room for more recruits. He wanted at least ten thousand by the end of the year.
The giant's name was Herast, a knight of sorts. He was traveling to Maslona to search for work, as traveling knights and mercenaries alike were wont to do in order to feed themselves. So far he was alone on the path to Maslona, although travelers had passed by him on and off as he walked. Some walked with him for a bit, no doubt under the idea that no bandits would waylay such a creature. They were accurate in this thought, as he hadn't been ambushed or troubled yet. He was a bit lonely, however, but merely continued walking.
The queen stands beside her husband's throne, her small hand lain gracefully over an ornamental orb at the head of the chair. She tries to look calm and collected, even as vicious, exacting eyes stare her down from the base of the small platform the thrones are settled on. The loud thunder of voices, all competing over each other for just a moment of her attention, a moment stolen from her finding her child. Antagonizing.
She bites back the sharp words rushing to the tip of her tongue and tries to look upon the crowd with the great composure and sincerity expected of a queen, but the words are all blending together in their harshness, only a roar of half-helping gestures and power plays and noble silliness.
The sudden call of her title breaks her lack of focus, pulling her back into the world before her. The nobles do not cease their chattering, but she tries to focus on the words of the one now bowing before her. "Your Majesty! I have heard of your daughter's disappearance, and I offer my condolences, as well as my vow to you. I hereby swear by blood and by title that I will locate your daughter, and bring her home swiftly! I have ten good men, and fast horses. We can set out within the next half hour." The words merely succeed to strike her as another attempt to win her favor, albeit a more chivalrously posed attempt. She opens her mouth to reply only to hear the boom of thunder in her hall. Not again...
A good number of those seeking her attention fall aside at the sound of magic; the fear of the arcane affects even the educated, it seems. The sounds in the hall falter, finally, to the point of her being able to make out the next words with relative ease. "I am sorry that you had to see that my queen. What has disrupted the serenity of the kingdom, and how may I assist in its restoration?"
For a moment longer, the queen holds her tongue until, finally, a voice far to strong for her small form escapes her. "Enough." Finally, her court falls silent. "Raciall and Valeryn stand. The rest of the court, excepting a notable few," she bows her head in the direction of her husband's advisers, who have stood quietly aside for the duration. "Are to stand in silence unless spoken to."
A moment's pause and the nobles, grumbling but not daft enough to deny the acting monarch's word, shrink away from the platform.
"My daughter is missing." says the small queen simply, fingers tightening on the throne. "Half the city is already out looking for her and the other half has deemed fit to crowd my castle and impede our search. If you wish to help, I'd rather you remain calm. Someone should." Her eyes turn to glide over the crowd, then fall finally again on Valeryn and Raciall. "If you wish to help, I'd appeal you to remain calm and stand at your post but," she looks to the rest of the court. "I have a feeling my advice, in that, will not be heeded. If nothing else, do not allow your tongues to let slip of this incident to anyone. My daughter and her friend must be gently collected and returned. The panic of the country will do nothing to assist that."
She takes a deep breath, through her nose, and draws herself up. "If there is anything else?"
Worthless killing, over nothing but coin He allowed a small "Hm" at the thought and began to walk again.
It was when a troop of soldiers decided to take him to their city for questioning... Yet they let him keep sword...weather it was out of fear or respect has yet to be seen.
After observing the figure that was slowly coming closer, Vaiven decided to approach his horse slowly. As the distance between the two slimmed, it was clear that the figure was Kapre, and a large one at that. Large was an insult even. Giant was a fitting term. He stopped fifteen feet from the giant. It was obvious that someone of that size wouldn't be following a road to only Maslona unless he was going there to do something. The giant resonated strength, so maybe that something was a bad thing.
"Greetings friend!" Vaiven shouted towards the giant. "What brings you to Maslona?" He asked out of curiosity.
"Work," Herast finally said, rather simply. His voice sounded like an avalanche, vibrating the air violently and resonating with one's eardrums. He raised his massive sword and placed it against the ground, a hand on-top of the hilt to keep it in place. A small gesture of non-violence, or so the giant intended it to be. His eyes settled on the man's own, the fact that he was on horseback not presenting a problem to eye contact for him.
"Work, eh? Soldiers work?" Vaiven began. "Maslona has plenty of that these days. Hundreds come each week, looking for some kind of employment. Yep, the states growing alright." He glanced back up the road, then to the man again. "I work for the Duchy. In fact I personally know the Duke of Maslona. I'm sure he'd love to meet you. I know he's been trying to find a new whip. Pays good, the Duchy provides housing and living. Interested?" He paused for a moment. "By the way, I didn't catch your name?"
After his moment's stare, Raciall walked down the isle. Those among the crowd gave him mixed looks of awe and hate. He more than realized that he occasionally abused the powers that fate had given him, but Raciall tried to avoid unnecessary use. After all, over use of anything is bad for business, politics, and ideology.
Upon exiting the palace, Raciall moved about the near deserted streets of late morning, gathering materials. The trip to Troumora was routine for Raciall, but the decision to go was sudden and if he hoped to keep the ruling family ruling, he needed to head out as soon as possible.
"Herast," He finally said when the man finished, bowing his head and shoulders as he stated his own name. He looked at the horseback man imploringly, silently asking his name in return.
"How about we continue to Maslona? There's an outpost only a mile or so up the road. I'll walk with you." He said as he got off his horse. He didn't like to ride when others had to be on foot during casual times like these. He looked up at the giant. "Let's go."
"You can continue riding on horseback if you'd rather," He finally said, the longest sentence out of the giant's mouth in weeks. It's not like they would have trouble speaking face to face even if he was astride a horse, after all.
He led Herast to the inn where he ordered the most expensive items on the menu. Prime beef and tivian wine. The wine came first and Vaiven drank the glass with a few quick gulps. He looked at the wine, then to Herast.
"When you work for the Duke, every meal is fine. What we're about to eat is only five silver, cheap. I'm personally accustomed to wine imported from Ashe. It has a certain sweetness, yet dry as well." He said. Then he got back to business. "I suspect you'll get a starting salary. Does ten thousand silver a year work for you? That is after you've proven yourself, of coarse." A whip to shape up the army would be well worth the pay. Besides, the treasury was in no danger of ever depleting any time soon, especially from a few thousand measly silver.
Herast felt slightly awkward as he had to crouch down a bit to fit inside the inn, and once more when he actually sat down. The chair groaned under his weight, which he was very glad held. He would pay the craftsman his respect should he ever cross him on the street.
"Of course," Herast added as Vaiven finished talking, only having taken a few sips of his own wine. He wasn't much of a drinker now-a-days, but he felt it rude to not drink any at all when his companion was already doing so with gusto. It was an odd change of pace given the travel food he had been eating for a large portion of his existence. Which was really whatever he could scrounge up on the road.

Re: Kingdom of Shadows
Just a quick; I'm not posting as often as I'd like due to some other obligations so if I fail to reply in a timely manner for a short time please understand it's not my intention to neglect the roleplay I just don't have time to reply. ^^; I'll be keeping up with PMs however and checking in to see posts and, while i should be able to post tomorrow, I'd just like to warn you that I may be delayed. That is all~

Re: Kingdom of Shadows
Thank you for assisting, Roku, and to Phersu; Roku's suggestion is accurate and similar to what I had in mind. Maslona is, to begin, going to be our central point of interest, though maybe not ultimately. In my next post, which will be up later today (EST's later today, anyways) the queen and her entourage will be going there themselves and my mercenary characters will make their debut in Maslona as well. And, if you're interested in heeding the call of the queen's "contract", it will be listed in Maslona after her arrival.
Sorry for the late reply but I hope it answers your question suitably.
Re: Kingdom of Shadows
The mercenary types as well as the knights can initially go there for a job, but they can then meet with other characters and do whatever once they meet up. Maybe even form a fighters guild in the city.
I just suggest we use it as a meeting point of interest to get our characters introduced.
Re: Kingdom of Shadows
Our first order of business is of course to find the princess, but feel free to get into a bit of trouble along the way, hm? x33

We're definitely running late, but we now have everyone we need to start! We'll be beginning tomorrow and I hope you'll all join us in our quest to find the princess~

EDIT: Oh, and if you don't mind a suggestion, if anybody else is so inclined, we could use an RPGWrite pad as a chat/OOC/general communication thing. We did that in a past RP of mine and it really helped with cohesion and keeping the RP flowing smoothly and all that, although that was, granted, before the chat system on this site really got panned out, so it might be kind of an obsolete suggestion now.
Re: Kingdom of Shadows
Take your time as we can't start just yet anyways. ^^; And if you have any questions be sure to ask. :33

That said, thank you both for commenting and I hope you'll join our cast <33
Nekohina wrote:yes it does, just clarifying but the open spots are 3 Princes (potentially) and then just a variety of characters we just happen to find tied into this instead of the named royal cast, yes?
And, Nekohina, there are open spots for three princes (maybe one princess) and then the rest of the cast shall be made up of various adventurers. If you take a look at our character list now you'll see a few god examples. :33
