Noelani Lā€™Ariettre

ā€œI will marry this man. I would give my life for my countryā€¦but oh, Iā€™d give my pride for a warm summer evening and quiet love songs.ā€

Image

Name: Noelani Lā€™Ariettre

Nickname: Noel is a common abbreviation of her first name. Her parents used to call her ā€œLittle Ariā€, as well (most affectionately).

Age: 21

Gender: Female

Sexuality: Heterosexual, mostly. (Closet bisexual, though she hasnā€™t even admitted it to herself.)

Appearance
Though Noelani is at a buddingly mature age of twenty-one, she still possesses a very youthful, beautiful appearance. Most prominent of her features is, perhaps, her dainty height. She stands only at a measly five feet, though sheā€™ll try and claim an extra Ā¾ inch if you ask her. While she is a bit heavier than one would first judge, she carries her weight well. Her arms are light and delicate, her shoulders smooth. Her breasts are of a moderate size ā€“ large enough to be noticed and appreciated, but certainly not grounds for her to stand out against the other candidates ā€“ and lead down to a small, though stubbornly squishy stomach. Her waist is more pronounced than her bust, as a result of a butt more exceptional than her other curvature. Her legs are a point of distaste for her, as they donā€™t follow the pattern of her arms; her thighs are large, proportionate to what sits above them, and flow down into pristine little feet. Meanwhile, her figure is draped in pale, ever burning skin.

Her facial features are more sylvan than her figure, however. Light and airy, her cheeks set the stage of her face, gently structuring it along with her tiny, prone-to-sniffling nose. Her mouth is small and smiles easy, with lips the shade of a muted peach. Her eyes are round and large, and are a watery shade of sky blue. To complete her appearance, her thatch colored hair drapes across her shoulders. It is long enough to hang down to her mid back, but it has a tendency to knot because it is so fine, so she tries to tie it up as often as she can.

Clothing
Coming from an Eastern country, much of Noelaniā€™s wardrobe bears little similarity to what many of the other candidates likely wear. Most common of her assorted articles are simpler robes of silk, usually of solid colors with the beauty shown in the craftsmanship, rather than the pattern. However, she does own several more expensive dresses in the style of her home, ones made from the softest threads woven into beautiful patterns. They are modest for the most part, covering everything and sporting long, flowing sleeves. Finally, having the foresight to purchase something in advance, she does own one ball gown in the Akadian style, lightly colored in lavender.

Personality
The most remarkable feature about Noelaniā€™s personality is that she doesnā€™t fit the bill for the role sheā€™s playing in life. Sheā€™s a princess, which should inherently make her spoiled, selfish, and bossy. Also, she has come to Akadia seeking the Princeā€™s hand in marriage. Traveling such a ways in search of a wealthy husband would usually paint her as ambitious and greedy. Yet, she is none of those things. Not to say that sheā€™s an exceptional person, for she, like anyone else, can display those qualities at times. But overall, Noelani is sweet, kind, and easy going. Sheā€™s quite innocent and can be a bit childish at times, prone to dopey smiles and airy giggles, especially when sheā€™s happy and relaxed. She can be silly and unpretentious, demonstrated by the high chance that she will wind up making faces akin to a pufferfish at the dinner table. Her biggest flaw in her current situation, however, is her ā€œmaidenā€™s heartā€. Sheā€™s a hopeless romantic, swooning over poetic words and declarations of love. All in all, Noelani is much less intimidating than others in her position might be.

Likes
ā€¢ Pretty scenery: if thereā€™s one thing that can make Noelani as happy as a clam, itā€™s being surrounded by beautiful surroundings.
ā€¢ Love Songs: Noelani is a sucker for love songs or anything overly romantic in general. Her response to them can be anywhere from blushing head to toe to fainting right out.
ā€¢ Water Activities: Noelani is quite used to being in the water, since her home was situated on a lakefront. As such, she enjoys spending time in the water doing just about anything.

Dislikes
ā€¢ Stuffy rooms: Noelani comes from a place where buildings are very open to the outside world, so she finds being cooped up to be quite grating on the nerves.
ā€¢ Reptiles: while Noelani is overall good with most breeds of animals (sheā€™s managed to avoid the mouse stereotype), thereā€™s something about most reptiles that makes her skin crawl.
ā€¢ Selfishness: now, everyone can be a little selfish, and thatā€™s completely understood by Noelani. However, as a princess, sheā€™s met her fair share of utterly self-centered nobles, and she can safely say that that type of person bothers her the most.

Biography
Noelani hails from a country far to the east of Akadia, known as Orosu. Full of unpolluted natural vistas, Orosu has been a backwards nation since its establishment. It is like a slice of the past surviving abreast modern day countries; technology has not taken hold in this land, yet. This nation is located on the edge of large body of water, and as such, its most important province next to water. It is here that the people decided to build their capital, and the palace is located right on the shore of the gentle lake.

The Lā€™Ariettre family currently holds the throne of Orosu. The coupleā€™s only heir is Noelani, their precious daughter born in the winter months after a particularly rainy year. Noelani has grown up quietly and pleasantly; she was a mild mannered girl who the people, but palace servants and general populace alike, came to like.

While Orosu has managed to sustain itself well despite its technological inhibitions so far, the bottom line is that the country will only fall further and further behind economically and social compared to its neighbors unless it makes strides to modernize and join with allies. As such, when it was announced to the world that the prince of Akadia was searching for a wife, Orosu could not afford to pass this chance by. A modern country like Akadia could be just the kind of ally that Orosu would need to assure its future.

Therefore, the king and queen asked their daughter if she would be willing to accept the princeā€™s invitation. She agreed, and was soon on her way to Akadia. While it is true that Noelani is in the princeā€™s court with the hopes of marrying him, she does not lust after his wealth and success. Rather, as the bubbly girl arrives at the palace, she is exceedingly hopeful that Prince Darann might be, just maybe, the new hope that she and her country are looking for.

Noelani Lā€™Ariettre

Thereā€™s nothing like the endless drumming of horsesā€™ hooves on the ground and the repeated bouncing of a carriage in movement to give someone an enormous headache. Such was the fate of the princess Noelani, who, at this very moment, was sprawled out in a most unladylike fashion in the back of her royal carriage. Laying on her back taking up an entire bench, one arm swung over her eyes to block out the sun that was shining through the window, one knee pulled up and the other leg hanging down off of the bench ā€“ all of that couple with her piteous moaning might have made one feel bad for her. However, the two others in the carriage had been privy to this exact scene for many days, and repetition had worn away their sympathy.

Since third day of their caravanā€™s venture, when the adrenaline of adventure had fallen away and the stark reality of spending fifteen hours each day in the cramped, hot, and unstable carriage for several weeks had fully set in, the Princess had been anything but endearing. As it was, the princessā€™s two guardians were instead trying their damndest to resist their own headaches and frustrations. After all of the days theyā€™d already spent travelling in their unfortunately long journey, the capital of Akadia would finally come into sight this afternoon. As it was, the strange countryside was already whittling past, should any of the carriageā€™s riders had any desire to look outside the curtained windows.

But, they didnā€™t.

Instead, the uncompanionable silence persisted for the next hour and a half until the vehicle reached the interior of Marin, broken only by Noelā€™s groans and whimpers. When the carriage had finally come to a blessed stop, the riders slowly and arduously climbed from their seats, opened the door, and were the first individuals from Orosu to set foot on Akadian soil. The two retainers looked back in the carriage and saw Noel rise from her position and blearily blink away her disgruntlement. With a childish sniffle and pout, she held her hands out one of the men, he whose hair was white and who had wrappings covering his throat and mouth. With the air of a father being bothered by his daughter, the man took the princessā€™s hand and helped her descend from the carriage significantly more modestly and gracefully than she could have herself with her frumpled kimono.

Once she had touched the ground, she smiled sweetly and, standing on her very tipy-toes and pulling his head down a bit with a hand on his shoulder, Noel pecked the man on the cheek. ā€œThank you, Rai; youā€™re always such a gentleman,ā€ she said teasingly, to which the man, ā€œRaiā€, shrugged and scratched the back of his head. The third companion snorted, tossing his long, black hair over his shoulder, and turned to start unloading the back of the carriage. Raising his voice so the two would hear him, he said, ā€œRight, and always such a noblewoman too. Now, get your ass over here, Raitoningu, and help me carry the,ā€ here he paused to add in a double dose of snark, ā€œprincessā€™s bags.ā€

ā€œYou donā€™t have to be jealous just because I didnā€™t ask you to help me, Sandaa!ā€ Noelani stuck her tongue out at her grumpy retainer as she returned his snark full force. Raitoningu chuckled at the two, but moved to help regardless. Soon enough, the two men were laden down with several bags and trunks, the carriage was dismissed to return to Orosu on its own time, and the trio was on its way to the palace.

That wasā€¦if they could find it. Trusting their princess to find the palace, which had been directly north from their position, the two men followed Noelani until she made a tiny ā€˜oopsā€™ sound. Already ticked by the entire event, Sandaa immediately latched onto the noise and growled out ā€œWhat do you mean, oops!? You didnā€™t ā€“ couldnā€™t! ā€“ have gotten us lost, could you?ā€ The two men heard a groan as Noelani turned around and looked at them both with embarrassed eyes, hands clutching at her hair, and said in a meek voice, ā€œUmm, maybe? I thought that it would be a shortcut if we went left and then straight. But, I think I forgot to stop going left about ten minutes back that way.ā€

Sandaa looked like he would have picked Noelani up by her shoulders and shaken her like a rag doll if he wasnā€™t borne down with all of the bags. ā€œWHAT? YOU. FORGOT. TO. TURN?ā€ Rai set down one bag and, using his now free hand, grabbed the collar of Sandaaā€™s uniform to prevent him from charging at his mistress. ā€œYes, yes, I forgot to turn! Shut up! Iā€™m not used to the buildings being so big that they prevent me from seeing the streets. I mean, I donā€™t know how Iā€™m supposed to find my way around when I canā€™t even see where Iā€™m going,ā€ Noel complained, stamping her feet a bit at Sandaaā€™s criticism.

ā€œJust. Get. Directions,ā€ Sandaa seethed between clenched teeth while Rai gently patted him on the head, trying to calm him. The white haired man cast a gentle, placating look at Noel and said with a bit of amusement, ā€œFind someone to tell us how to get to the castle, Madam Noel. Iā€™ll keep this one here for now. Weā€™ll be waiting.ā€ Thanking her levelheaded companion and brushing off more venomous verbal attacks on her intellect by her less so companion, Noel tottered off, looking for someone who looked like they knew what they were doing. Because goodness knows she surely didnā€™t.

Ready to add the final touches to her attire for the day, the young noble glanced into her jewelry box, marveling at her collection as she decided what to adorn her neck and ears with. Finally, after several minutes of debate and holding up items to her pale skin and observing the effect in the mirror, she settled on a strand of pears and single pearl earrings. Checking herself in the vanity mirror once more, Lea decided she was now officially presentable. Cleaned, dressed, and everything was properly arranged. Relaxing her shoulders, she stood and headed out into the dining room for some eagerly anticipated breakfast. Breakfast was definately her favorite meal, boasting the best types of food in her opinion.

Being sure to greet any servant she passed as well as her father and her mother, Lea sat down and waited patiently to be served, placing her napkin in her lap. Thankfully her food arrived quickly, and soon she was able to soothe her hunger. Somehow, she managed to not spill a single crumb upon her lap, a good omen as far as she was concerned.

Once finished, she thanked her servants and excitedly bid her household farewell for now, accepting a parasol from a maid as she headed for the door.

Outside, Lea lifted her skirts just enough to keep them clean as she decended her steps, heading towards the simple carriage provided for her to head into the city and towards the palace, her bags already loaded. While Lea could technically just walk into the center of the capitol, she didn't want to bother with having servants carrying things for her, nor did she fancy walking that far in nice shoes. Her house was towards the outer edges of the city, and she decided it would simply be easier to ride there. Within minutes, she was on her way to the palace, her heart filled with anticipation.

The ride was uneventful, and Lea leaned her chin on her hand, gazing idly out the window. She and her coachman were only about a third of the way to the palace when she saw someone she didn't recognize. More importantly, a woman dressed very differently than anyone she'd ever seen before. "Stop the carriage sire!" she instructed, getting out as soon as the door was opened for her.

"I beg your pardon miss!" Lea called out, approaching the rather charming looking young woman of fair complexion and golden hair. But those clothes! They were beautiful, surely, but unlike any dresses she had seen or worn. Now that she looked closer, the exotic young woman seemed to look rather lost and confused. "Are you by any chance lost?"

Noelani Lā€™Ariettre

Not only was it difficult to see where you were going in a city, it was also difficult to find a kind stranger who was willing to show you the way. Noel wasnā€™t used to being around so many people and buildings and things! It was just too much for her to handle, leading to her losing her way and incurring the horrible wrath of her attendant, who should be subservient to her, and all in all spoiling her morning! She spent the better portion of ten minutes scurrying around the streets like frantic hen trying to find someone who looked both knowledgeable and kind. However, itā€™s been said that it takes like to recognize like. And, frankly, Noel wasnā€™t knowledgeable herself, so how was she supposed to know what that looked like in a person?

The result was that the poor girl began asking everyone she passed for directions, becoming more and more distraught with each refusal or brusque denial. By the time fortune had smiled upon her, she was already close to tears, her little nose sniffling consistently. Yet, not even the most piteous view of the tiny woman in near-hysterics stirred any sympathy in those around her. That was, until a feminine voice stopped Noel just before she fell to her knees and clutched desperately at a man who was turning to leave when she told him she didnā€™t have any local money to tip him if he did help.

Blinking back moisture from her eyes and closing her mouth to cut off her pleads, Noelani turned her head to look back towards the street, astonished to see a rather fancy looking woman ā€“ in the Akadian style, of course; nothing like the fashion of her homeland ā€“ looking at her. For a ludicrous moment, Noelani dumbly lifted a finger to point at herself as if asking ā€œYou meant me?ā€ Just a second later, as recognition hit her upside the head like the slap that she desperately deserved, Noel leaped from her spot and ran, beaming towards the woman. Momentarily forgetting that she was a princess, in a foreign land full of different customs no less, Noel threw her arms out and wrapped them around the womanā€™s shoulders in a tight hug, having to stand on her tippy toes to balance, albeit quite precariously.

ā€œHi, hi, hi,ā€ she exclaimed, looking up at the woman with radiant happiness. ā€œThank you so much for acknowledging me! Oh, just thank goodness, youā€™re so kind and wonderful andā€¦ā€ Her enthusiasm running ahead of her, Noel couldnā€™t help but fall into her habit of gushing compliments and nonsensical niceties. When her exuberance died down slightly, Noel checked herself and released the womanā€™s shoulders, falling back down on her heels. ā€œOh, Iā€™m sorry about thatā€¦I just got so excited, see; everyoneā€™s either ignored me or wanted money to show me to the palace, and I wasnā€™t quite able to get any exchanged before we left, so Iā€™m just really lost and confused and you showing up was just so nice and wonderful and-ā€

Noel imagined that she could almost feel Sandaaā€™s intensifying shouting from where she was.

Reaching up to scratch the back of her head as she chuckled lamely, Noel caught herself and said, much more calmly, ā€œAnd, um, yes. I am actually rather lost. My retainers sent me to find someone to give us directions, and, wellā€¦here I am?ā€ She shrugged her shoulders lightly and gave a hollow, embarrassed laugh.

Cocking her head to the side a little, Noel shyly gave the woman a half bow as pink colored her cheeks. ā€œIā€™m sorry, Iā€™ve forgotten my manners. Iā€™m Noelani Lā€™Ariettre; and what might the name of my savior be?ā€
