Prisca Hart is an American girl with a small, mousy build. Her posture is terrible, her back is nearly always slumped, and the girl has much difficulty in looking others in the eye, especially when being spoken to. The girl is timid like a cat and this is obvious in her avoidant body language and the way she always leans away from others, or dodges their gaze. Otherwise, she is quite forgettable, her hair is nothing special, just cut short with a morose black color that only makes her appear even more meek. On a normal glance her eyes appear to be a pale blue but looking right at them would reveal the true stone grey hue of her irises.

In terms of curves, Prisca doesn't have much, her hips are narrow and her waist even more so. Her chest might be her only redeeming value, erring on the smaller side of average, but not horribly flat either. Upon a cursory glance it's common to think of her as cute, quiet, and hard to talk to, not having an approachable aura at all, unlike some other girls. Even her clothing doesn't help, preferring to robe herself in mostly black with bits of white to highlight the outfit, simple above-the-knee skirts and blouses.

"The end of days has come, as foretold by the Book of Revelations!"

That was the mantra everyone in America was lambasted with ever since the light bearers were discovered. The Catholics used light bearers in America as proof of holy powers, turning even those that refused to believe. Resources were dwindling, and the Hart family, distantly related to the main branch of the Ray family, was one of those that were against the use of light bearers in war. As light bearers were forcibly discovered and then shipped off for experimentation and training, even young children, more and more people began to try to rebel. But those in power, they saw the merit of these powers, using abilities not even guns could keep up with. This kind of advantage, why not try to press it? Japan wasn't the only one dealing with tyranny, America's Shoku was a certain man known as Roger Cross, and he held control tightly, abolishing elections under threat of the light bearers under his control.

War was most definitely brewing on the horizon. And so the higher ups decided to instill martial law to keep it's civilians under control as a response to insurgent activity in which rebels tried to attack light bearing facilities. It was kind of world where twin sisters Prisca and Essie grew up in, a harsh, frightening, and dangerous world.

First was the household issues. Essie, she was always a stunningly beautiful over achiever, charming and friendly, there was no one who didn't love her. Her shadow was Prisca, a shy quiet meek girl that while was liked, was clearly nowhere near as confident as the radiant Essie. The two girls were incredibly close throughout their lives, pledging each other as the other's most important, and with justified reason, of course. Their parents often fought - Harley Ray wanted to move to Japan and take in the newly orphaned Damian, to fulfill their duty as members of Sanctum, but Jared was always against the idea of introducing their children to the shadow war between Prometheus and Sanctum. With all the fighting, Prisca and Essie had no choice but to cling to one another for solace in their troubled younger days.

"Our sisterly love will last as long as this plastic rose lives!"

When the girls hit high school, their homeroom teacher, Patricia Burns, was impressed by their natural abilities and offered them invitations to the library school club. Needless to say, this club had nothing to do with libraries and everything to do with the spread of newly banned prohibited information, trying to teach and promote free speech and the idea of a world without war. Both girls were happy to learn and exchange these banned books with the other members of the Library Club, they felt as if this was their hope in a dangerous world where one wrong word would send black vans to your house to take you away, never to be seen again. Naturally, Essie befriended one of the more well read boys in the club, Callum Riggs, smart, clever, and darkly humorous, Prisca had a bad idea about him from the start. Yet one could say it was true love at first sight for Callum and Essie.

Life at home escalated of course with the finding that father returned home one night smelling like another woman's perfume. Harley Ray, who could no longer deal with all the troubles, decided that he was a bad influence on the house and reported him for sympathizing with the rebels. Jared Hart was taken away, never to be seen by his daughters again. A clever way to make someone disappear. So when the delinquent Callum kept trying to get Essie involved in actual vigilantism, to join the Freedom Fighters even if either sister was a light bearer, Prisca was always worried. Essie would always go to the fights, to help free the captive light bearers, and Prisca always feared that eventually, Essie would be caught, and worse, killed. And no matter how many times the sisters argued, Essie had already fallen in love with Callum, it was too late to convince her to stay away. Learning from her mother's path, Prisca decided to make her own decision, and became the snitch, ratting him out to the officials.

Needless to say, things got worse from here. Under torture, Callum revealed all about the Freedom Fighters trying to retake America and make it a democracy again, as well as the Library Club at the high school. A list of names was made, and then black vans came to take everyone away. Parents were shot trying to protect their children, a certain Hime used her influence to break Callum out and have him escape to Europe safely, but no one else managed to get away. Everyone involved was gathered in a room, and one by one they were suffocated with bags over their heads. Essie looked to Prisca before her bag was delivered, and one word was mouthed. Traitor. And naturally, Prisca was spared at the very end, allowed to live because she served her patriotic duty well. Her reward was to be made an experiment, to become an artificial light bearer to continue serving her country.

Prisca became a Martyr then, the first successful American-made light bearer. And with her new ability, she herself was turned into a child soldier, to fight for the country that stole everything away. Worst of all, she wasn't even allowed to die, the scientists all made sure that she never had the chance to end it all. This wasn't a reward at all, but a punishment, for snitching out everyone. Oddly enough, this act cemented America as a major power to stand against the New Japan's might after Emperor Ira Shoku defeated the Freedom Fighters and the HIVE. The two became the centerpieces of the war, and entire cities were turned into ruin as light bearers clashed with light bearers. In the end, the Yui of prophecy did something, breaking out of Shoku's control and in that final battle, she rained death down into the entire world, reducing everything to nothingness.

As for Prisca? Well, she found a certain girl during the final battle, going as Nemesis, one of the strongest under Shoku's power.. Prisca didn't stand a chance, she was going to join the dead very soon, keeping only a childhood keepsake, a reminder of her dead sister, the plastic rose. She was terrified yet also eager for a chance to apologize, and maybe she would have gotten it too, at least, if it wasn't for a fragment of the Goddess finding her and binding her soul to the rose in preparation for a new conflict...

|| Stand By Me|| Florence and the Machine ||

Miiko didn't understand how there could have possibly been rich people like that. "That's awful," Rose's time period sounded as though it would have been a terrible time to be alive. Miiko was very glad that she was part of this generation, where their biggest worry was whether or not L would somehow bomb their island. They didn't have the means for bombs of course, but still, the rebels were afraid that L would attack Yavin and the World Tree, the island's source of life. Each island had something to keep it alive. For Yavin it was the World Tree, for Ondern it was the Sacred Squid, a giant squid that circled around the island and kept it safe from attacks, making it impenetrable. If it weren't such an overly populated city, then Miiko would be living there. It made for a great rebel base, Miiko had been there a few times and the squid that protected it were as big as the island itself!

Then there was the Capital City, which, of course, had the rumored Light Bearers powering the city, not that there were any left. "That sounds like L... L is probably rich. He's awful! He took Stella!" Miiko kicked the dust on the ground. "Stella was my big sister, is my big sister. She was a light bearer, the strongest one ever!" It was clear that Miiko had a lot of admiration and respect for her older sister. "You would have loved her," Miiko said quietly. "She was smart and brave, she could do anything she put her mind to." Unlike Miiko, Stella didn't have a spirit, she was a real light bearer. "What if L is using her for something!" Miiko gasped, she was shushed again by an old man sitting to their right. "Stop speaking so badly, if they hear you, they'll report back!" Miiko looked up, there were two military officers on their boat. They hadn't been allowed off at Yavin, but they were now going to Jaspar, the same port town that Miiko was going to.

"Girl of prophecy?" Miiko inquired. Behind them, there was an outburst of sound while a man began to preach about the Immortal Girl. "Is the Immortal Girl the one you're talking about? She's the girl that ended the last era. Rumor has it, she lives on a lost island, all alone." No one knew that the Immortal Girl was in L's possession. No one knew what he was doing with her or whether she truly existed. "That's all just rumors though, so don't be a wuss." Miiko grinned, "these cookies are the best, here have another one! Mommy says that if you're too thin you'll get sick to your stomach and will have to be in a wheelie chair."

Miiko turned towards the ocean. The fish were not jumping out of the water, it was far too cold for them to be this close to the surface unless they wanted to freeze. "Ondern is a tropical island. Mommy and Daddy like to go there when the winter gets really brutal, they say that it helps Mommy's lungs."

The way Miiko kept talking about Stella - who instead of just being a name, was now an actual person in Prisca's head, she was Miiko's sister, and just like that she was given some sort of substance. The Conqueror, L, he captured Stella somehow, the strong powerful one. "Was she a Caster too?" Prisca asked curiously, wondering which Spirit would have been assigned to the most powerful girl. She definitely sounded incredible. It reminded Prisca of how some Americans thought of her as their angel of war, the goddess of victory. She had a good ability, hard to use but if you knew how to, you were nearly unbeatable. But of course, she was far from being the kind of person that they thought she was. "W-we'll save her." The mousy ghost said with dedication, wanting her Caster to be happy.

"There was a... a prophecy." Not that she really paid much attention to it at the time, but there had been one, hadn't there? Apparently it was very important to get hands on the book, there were many people fighting over custody of it. The ghost could remember one girl in particular, apparently she had some sort of heart disease, she was appointed the book's guardian... but her name - it was on the tip of her tongue but whenever she tried to speak it, the name was blocked out, as if that girl was erased from existence. "The girl of prophecy was the one with the power to save or end the world." She was slowly getting used to talking to Miiko without quite as much stuttering now. She took another cookie, trying not to look embarrassed as she ate. Why was it even so humiliating, wasn't it petty to feel that way?

One day, Rose had a feeling their battles would take them to Ondern as well, to all the island cities in the region if need be. This vast world, once full of buildings and civilization was now a giant ocean with scattered cities every which way. It was honestly so impossible to even think about, the way everything was so different. She once lived in this city, New York - and now the area of New York was most likely referred to as it's own thing now, wasn't it? Eventually they arrived at Jaspar, it looked less like a city and more like a large marketplace. It begged the question of where the locals could even live in the first place.

Prisca handed the paper of things they needed to Miiko, since she would know best how to get what they needed. "So it's a c-commerce city?" So much trading back and forth, the entire city appeared to be made of mercantilism. There were even paper advertisements plastered on billboards everywhere, inviting people to trade for this and that. It reminded Prisca bitterly of the consumerism back when she was still alive. "I wonder if we could try to find medicine f-for your mother..."

The engine of the ferry cut, the first people off were the officials of the ragtag government they put together once civilization began to reform. This government was to insure that humanity's fundamental rights were not being thrown away in any of the islands. There was no slave trade, no illegal work camps, no factories for children to work in, and most importantly, no religion to divide them all. While religion wasn't explicitly illegal, most humans prayed to the divinity that protected their home. "Yavin has the World Tree, Jaspar has that!" Miiko pointed to it, the large building that had been taken over by plants and greenery. Flowers of all sorts blossomed to form a picture, what the humans used to call a lotus blossom. "Apparently the mark means something, they figure it's the symbol of a God." Miiko shrugged, "most of us don't believe in Gods anymore."

"Yeah, Jaspar is a city of trade, there's also an illegal market. They call it the Blue Market, but we can't go there." Miiko took a look at the list, she knew where to go. "This way!" Miiko announced, leading her spirit in the direction of the shop that sold the goods they would need to finish the hydroponic garden and fix the holes in the island's defense. "We're in the middle of installing solar panels, so I'm sure we'll have a delivery of parts." Miiko stopped in front of a tent selling cute plushies, all hand sewn. She hadn't com with any extra trade, her shoulder slumped in disappointment. "This way," Miiko led them down a greasy ally that smelled like oil and ocean water. Over here, the shops were much larger and in mostly rebuilt houses "They gave these a new purpose, there's running water in them now, but Jaspar runs on water power, so they can get at least two hours of electricity a day. Isn't that cool?" Miiko thought so.

"Hey Mimi," a tall, intimidating man turned around, hands on hips. He wore overalls and a plaid shirt, goggles covering his eyes. "Hi Mr. Tanka, this is the list, can you make it quick? It's really cold out here." Tanka laughed, "I'll see what I can do." He scanned the list and nodded, "it should be done in about an hour, can you come back?" Miiko nodded, "Yeah! I'll give Rose a tour!" Tanka raised a brow, shiny bald head glistening in the low light of evening. "Rose? New rebel," he grinned. "Welcome to the resistance, " Tanka was just about to go inside when his eyes caught sight of Miiko's hand. He gasped and fell to his knees, taking her small hand in his much larger ones. "Is that what I think it is?" Miiko nodded with a grin. "Cool, isn't it?" Tanka hurried to pull a scrap cloth out from his pocket, tying it around Miiko's mark.

"Don't go showing that off, you don't want to get taken away do you?" Miiko shook her head. "Thanks I guess, come on Rose!" Tanka sighed and shook his head. "Kids, they never change do they?" He turned away and marched inside to fill the list of items that the rebellion needed.

It was as if every little island of habitable land had it's own cultures and traditions built into it, little tiny pockets of society scattered throughout the ocean that now covered the planet. Jaspar was just so different from Yavin and Prisca couldn't help but wonder just how different all the other cities like Ondern and Tora might be as well. She mumbled something under her breath about exploring them one day but in truth the ghost didn't know if she wanted to, because it meant meeting people... and she was terrible at that. "After the C-Calamity, there isn't much reason to believe." But even so, there would be tiny groups of desperate people wanting answers and turning to theology for the answers no one else could give. She let Miiko lead the way because Miiko was much better at this than she was.

Solar panels made a lot of sense for retrieving, something like that would only help improve people's lives. more than that, perhaps it would allow them to power electricity-based weapons in order to fight against L's armies once they eventually came. So Miiko eventually took Prisca to someone named Tanka and she was introduced to the salesperson as Rose. "H-hello." Rose squirmed, staring at her thumbs. "I-I h-hope to be of use." Tanka didn't originally think anything of it but after seeing the mark and realizing what Prisca was he gave her half a stare. "Not much of a heroic spirit, huh?" That only made Prisca's cheeks burn redder and she didn't know how to say. Spirits weren't heroes - they were villains looking for a chance to atone.

So Rose was shown all over the place, there were so many stores it was ridiculous. But then they were interrupted by two figures, a small blonde girl with a dark look in her eye and a tall slender man that seemed as mischievous as a fox. "You look pretty familiar with the city!" The man said, eyes suddenly glowing. "Oh dear me, I must ask a pretty thing like you to give us a tour as well!" He dashed forward, sweeping his arms around Miiko but then Rose felt an urge and stepped between them, a rapier appearing in her hand. "Do you have business with us?" She was in murderer mode now, where there was no time to be her usual shy self. "We're busy." The little girl snorted looking hardly a day over twelve.

"Pablo, I told you you'd scare them." The girl snarked, hands in her pockets, a wry grin on her face. "You can call me Lise, and this flouncy idiot is Pablo." Pablo looked almost insulted and he swayed overdramatically at that. We're visiting from the north, and-" Pablo suddenly took the rapier into his hands and Prisca felt panic rising. If they realized it was a spirit weapon - "Pretty girls are best with flowers and colors, you'll look much better that way!" Pablo grinned with all the friendliness in the world, causing Rose to blush and all the wind left her sails. Lise slapped her friend on the elbow, since that was as high as she could reach. "He's harmless, he only likes guys, don't worry." The girl shrugged then. "We wouldn't mind a tour though, we're kinda lost here..."

"Plenty of people think that, that girl is our Goddess. The Immortal one?" Miiko shrugged, "I don't think she's a Goddess, but I know she's out there." Surely something like the Calamity hadn't been able to kill the one who was Immortal? The Mother of all Light Bearers, was how some referred to her. Others believed that she was the sun herself, constantly orbiting around earth. What did Miiko believed? Well, Miiko wasn't sure what she believed in, but she did know that she was a Light Bearer now, so perhaps one day she too, would have a chance to meet this supposed legend? "Do you believe in anything Rose?" Miiko asked curiously, wondering if the ghost was religious. She wanted to know much more about the past, what the world used to be like before the Calamity and the water level of the ocean rose to flood most of earth.

Miiko opened her mouth to say something about not minding Tanka because he was a big oaf, but then someone rushed at her, swinging their arms around Miiko like an old friend. Miiko jumped back, Rose stepping forward to block the purple haired man from reaching the pink haired girl. "Don't touch me!" Miiko snapped, clearly startled by the sudden contact. Rose was different in front of strangers, but it wasn't a bad different; she was acting as Miiko's protect what with her rapier and her tone that implied not to mess with them less they wanted to be executed before the next sunrise. A blonde sidled up beside him, laughing ever so gently and speaking about scaring them. Miiko straightened and with a huff she crossed her arms. "Is that any way to ask for a favor? By tackling someone and scaring them half to death!"

She adjusted the strip of cloth around her light bearing mark so that they wouldn't see. Tanka was right, as much as Miiko hated to admit it, she couldn't just walk around the city with a light bearing mark. Neither one was dressed in military uniforms, which was a promising sign. While military could come to Jaspar, some of the shops refused to sell to them basic needs like toiletries and band aids, while others bore signs boasting about how they didn't mind the visit from the occasional the stray soldier. Miiko minded of course, Miiko very much minded, which was why she was so jumpy around these two strangers. "I'm Mimi, this is my friend Rose." Miiko replied, still a wary as ever. "Hey! Don't take what's not yours! These are dangerous parts! Girls have to protect themselves!"

Miiko crossed her arms. "Our delivery won't be ready for a while, I guess we could show you around a little." Miiko's hand remained near her knife, just in case, but she began to lead them towards the front of the island, where Miiko figured they would be heading.

Prisca paused for a moment, struggling to find a way to word what she wanted to say. Miiko asked if she believed in anything... the answer was obvious to her, but it was a bit more complicated than just a yes or no sort of affair, wasn't it? "I-in my time, Am... my country was controlled by p-people who tricked everyone into believing light bearers... that light bearers were a sign from their God." She explained sourly. It was that group who used their money and influence to strip away all rights and freedoms and made the country under martial law. "If you spoke against them... th-they'd have you disappear." The black vans were the moral judgment police, taking out anyone who had moral issues according to their doctrine. "Beliefs make it easy to justify violence and murder, because if you can believe your God supports the decision, you won't have any reason to fear human laws." A humorless smile graced her mien as she gazed at her Caster. "So no, I, um, I don't believe."

Pablo was tall and lanky, thin and looking almost fragile with his carefully preened purple orchid colored hair. The spectacles over his eyes made him look harmless and nerdy, but Rose couldn't be careful enough, so she made sure to intercept the attempt to grab her Caster. The girl, Lise, was small, maybe only a little bit taller than Miiko in height, but she wasn't anywhere near as innocent. The girl had common sense, yes, but her sharp green eyes were bright and aware, and she stood with a casual yet guarded stance, as if ready to fight if one were to break out at any moment. They were a peculiar duo to be sure. "A Rose wielding a sword decorated with a rose!" Pablo almost cried with delight, doing some sort of exaggerated movement with his arms to return the rapier. The hilt's handguard did have a decoration of a thorny stem with the rose blossoming out at the top.

It looked eerily familiar to the plastic rose, the symbol of her and Essie's love that was torn apart.

"It's my name, so don't make fun of it." Rose said stiffly. She liked her name, she liked the new identity, she wasn't going to allow anyone to mock or make light of it. "Pablo, stop, or they'll change their mind." Lise warned with a roll of her eyes. She smiled but it seemed too careful - however, it still had that friendly lilt to it. "Jaspar's a pretty cool city, but all the shops make it hard to remember where to go." Pablo was almost glittering however, and Rose couldn't stop from being carefully on guard. "The clothes here are so nice!" Pablo sighed, rubbing his fingers on the sleeve of his coat. "The silk is great on my sensitive skin!"

As the tour went on, the four of them seemed to stand out in the crowd, maybe even not only because of Pablo's theatrics and antics. It was because one child had gotten lost, he was crying and wandering around, looking for his mommy. Rose stiffened at the sight, she had no sympathy for this child, it was his own fault for getting lost. "Oh no, a lost boy!" Pablo almost wailed. "Come with me, this uncle will keep you safe, child!" If anything the boy started crying more so his companion took the lead. Lise knelt down to his level and offered a crooked smile his way. "Hey, kiddo, stop crying, okay? We'll help you find your mom." She turned her eyes up to Miiko with an almost helpless shrug. "Uh, you wouldn't know where the lost and found is, do you, Miiko, Rose?" Prisca shrugged, she had no idea where it could be.

Miiko was highly suspicious of these two characters who had come out of nowhere, claiming they were lost. Most people on Jaspar would not so easily walk up to strangers for far that they were from the ragtag government and there to shut them down. It was easier to mind your own business then help out a stranger. Rose's world sounded strange and awful, Miiko was glad that they had no religion, there was no reason to be jealous, no reason to claim that you were doing something for your deity. Everyone was held accountable to their own actions, which which made trials much easier. People were banished from islands, left to float aimlessly in the sea. When this was the case, their boats would be marked with red, warning other islands not to take in that person. Usually when someone was banished, it meant that they had killed, stolen, or done something unspeakable against the community; like rat them out.

Snitches get stitches in some cases, here they drowned. What kind of name was Pablo anyhow? "There's a system to it," Miiko informed them. She pointed to the ground, where there were lines in every direction. "The blue lines mean shore, the red lines mean shops, the green lines mean garden." The garden was where you would go to for fresh produce, which would be out of season. About now, farmers would be doing their best to sell off all of their harvest from the previous spring, summer, and fall. Carrots, squash, pumpkins, those were the ingredients you would find in season at the farmer's market. Silk? What was silk? Miiko reached for Pablo's sleeve, rubbing the material against two fingers. "It's soft I guess, but not as great as fleece! Here, feel this! Stella made this for me!" She held out the end of her navy scarf, grinning.

"I won't let anyone make fun of your name Rose, don't worry." Rose had a really pretty sword, Miiko wanted one too! Maybe she could get Rose to give it to her later? "Stop attracting so much attention! You don't want to catch the authority's eye!" Miiko hissed in a low voice when a crying child approached them. "Oh bother," was Pablo really so stupid that he didn't see the trick? Miiko rolled her eyes, "there is no lost and found." She reported in a most sassy voice; Miiko stomped right over to the crying child and held her hand out. "Alright, cough it up. Give me the watch and the wallet," the child instantly stopped crying and scowled. He reached into his coat, handing back the watch and the two wallets he had stolen from Pablo and Lise, the two most gullible tourists Miiko had ever seen.

"Now scram! Don't come back or else I'll have Rose whoop your butt!" Miiko turned, returning the belongings to the respective people, being careful not to brush hands. "Rule 2, don't ever offer help to strange children." Miiko wasn't sure where these two people wanted to go, they seemed keen following her back to the port. She glanced up warily at Rose, wondering if this was some sort of trick.

Miiko was explaining how the island city of Jaspar worked, it was all based on the line system to show people what lead where and everything else. Colored lines - Prisca had a feeling that everyone who didn't explicitly know the system would probably just jump to the conclusion that Jaspar just had a very strange aesthetics design behind their construction. "That's so clever!" Pablo smiled amicably at Miiko, very much in admiration of her ability to understand the system. "I knew from first sight you'd be able to help us!" It was true that he did more or less rush at them in a way no sane person ever would, it was weird even to Lise to see him do that. She was probably the level headed one of the two.

Pablo felt the scarf and his eyes lit up and Rose was very sure to be aware of the sudden guarded look in Lise's face at the mention of a certain Stella. Miiko's older sister, but it wasn't like she was the only girl named Stella alive, it was probably just a different Stella that she knew. "This material is exquisite." Pablo was definitely a fan of clothes and fashion and he was gushing on and on using words Rose would never understand to describe how heavenly the scarf was. "Oy, let go, you touched it enough." Rose said sharply, burying her previous embarrassment and Pablo patted her head with... pride? "You're always so alert, bodyguard girl, it's so cute!" And that was enough to take the momentum away and the mouse became the timid little mouse as always all over again, wishing she could dissipate the sword. It was a spirit weapon, she didn't have a sheathe, the longer they were with these people the higher chance there was that they would notice the lack of a sheathe.

It was very peculiar to watch Lise and Pablo be tricked by the little boy. Miiko saw through him immediately and forced him to return what was stolen and he scampered off then. There was a moment of quiet and then the tall thin Pablo glomped Miiko - or he tried to if Rose hadn't gotten in the way. She wasn't strong enough to push him off though and he decided to glomp her instead. It was quite uncomfortable, but also warm in a way. "Thank you so much, what would we have done if it wasn't for you two?" Lise rolled her eyes, smiling appreciatively. "We'd probably have wandered around for hours, lost." Why did it seem like the blonde was more mature than she let on? and despite Pablo's antics it was hard to think that that was all there was to him too.

Tanka eventually came and found them then. "Oy, you two, the package is ready." Prisca nodded then and pointed her fleuret in the direction of the shore. "It's that way, so don't miss your ferry, okay?" Did Miiko notice? When the boy returned the wallets, they had their ferry tickets and the color represented what city they came from. The two had sailed in from Tora, apparently, a fact that put Prisca very much on edge. "Maybe we'll see each other again!" Pablo cried out as the two made their exit. Once they were gone she finally let the rapier vanish, blushing slightly as the shopowner watched her with curiosity.

"I don't know what island you two came from, but you shouldn't just approach strangers, people will think that you're suspicious characters." Miiko scolded, wondering how she had gotten stuck with these two strange people. "Now you know," Miiko tugged her scarf up as the salty sea air whipped between tents. "If they're in a tent, you can haggle, if they're in a building it's a set price." They passed by a small tent selling exquisitely handmade plushies once again. Miiko came to an abrupt stop, watching as a woman haggled for a small pink rabbit that had an eye patch. "Rose," Miiko tugged on her sleeve. "Buy me one!" Miiko wanted a rabbit, she wanted a blue one with a black scarf and eye patch, like a pirate.

Rose probably didn't have anything to exchange and with a sigh, Miiko talked about her scarf. Pablo agreed that it was-well-Miiko liked to think that was a good word. She didn't know what it meant, but she liked to think that it was the highest of praise. Rose was getting all protective, telling him to let go and Pablo instead took to Rose. "Hey, don't touch her!" Miiko huffed, puffing out her cheeks. "She's my bodyguard, only I can touch her." Miiko took Roses's hand as though she were afraid of getting lost when in reality it was possessiveness driving Miiko to do this. The pinkette had a certain bounce in her step, despite the fact that she had not gotten the rabbit. She wanted to get rid of these two as fast as possible, the package would be ready soon and Miiko didn't want to have them on her tail when she brought the supplies back to the rebellion.

It was like dealing with two baboons who had never been to another island before. Hadn't Miiko told them several times already to not talk to strangers! "Hey, let Rose go!" Miiko tugged at Pablo's coat, trying to get him off of her spirit. At long last he let go and Miiko went flying back a few feet. Her arms wheeled in circles and she regained her balance, glaring. "Stop trying to take Rose from me!" Miiko snapped, close to the beach now. Tanka meandered through the shops, spotting that unmistakable pink hair. Their package was ready, Miiko and Rose were going to need all hands on deck in order to deliver it to their ferry. "Well it was nice meeting you and all, the shore is back that way. Don't talk to anymore people!" Miiko waved, then turned with a sigh. "I'm glad we're done with that."

She and Rose transported the very large amount of stuff in a wagon to the boat. There were two other wagons being pulled by Tanka and his buddy, Noa. As it turns out, they did see Pablo and Lise again. Pablo and Lise were going to Toro, the next stop on the ferry. Miiko and Rose had just missed the last boat back to Yavin, which meant that they were going to need to take the one to Toro, which would then stop in Yavin before returning to Jaspar. "I guess we'll be taking the same ferry." She said, not so happily.

It was funny watching Miiko try to teach the silly northerners about how to barter and trade but she had to keep in mind that L's forces, they came from the north as well. And didn't Miiko say something about Tora being a city now occupied by L's army? Wasn't Jaspar going to be the obvious next target then, were they going to have to go into open combat so soon? It was nerve wracking, Prisca wasn't sure she was ready to start fighting all over again. She was good at it, yes, but now she had to keep someone safe, which was going to add more complications to it all. "I-I, um, I don't have any, um, things to..." Rose had no possessions, even this rapier was born from her soul, it wasn't a real physical object, just a physical manifestation.

Tanka had come to inform them that the delivery was ready and Pablo and Lise set off on their way to do whatever it was they came here to do. Miiko had been quite possessive and Rose wasn't sure how to feel about it. While she understood what it was like to want to hold onto what was yours, it wasn't exactly a healthy emotion either. Possessiveness was precisely what lead to everyone's deaths, back when Prisca had been alive. If she hadn't snitched then maybe... but it was too late to dwell on that now, she could angst later. Like it or not, she had a job to do now. "Let's get back to the ferry so we won't be late or your f-father, he won't be happy." He'd probably worry and maybe even question if they were safe.

Well, what a surprise that on the docks, they were going to have to take the same ferry. WAs it really safe though, wasn't Tora an L controlled place? "I-I'll protect you." Prisca whispered, as long as they were careful and remained out of sight they would be fine. Maybe they wouldn't even leave the Ferry at all, that would be safest, right? "Oh, what a surprise!" Pablo beamed at them and Lise rolled her eyes as she was apt to do. "Thank you again for all the help, you two are just so sweet." Prisca kept her hand carefully on the hilt that she re-summoned, just in case. "Don't worry, we won't get in your hair." Lise tugged Pablo on board with a wink. "But if you need us, we'll be around."

Halfway to Tora, something very strange happened. There was a whole group of red ships approaching the city, with cannons mounted and people brandishing weapons and everything else. The ferry stopped in it's tracks, not willing to go any farther. "What's that?" Rose whispered to Miiko, confused. Lise and Pablo were there as well, watching near the front of the deck to see the city of Tora be attacked. "The Red Fleet. Exiles, they're always raiding cities, they're terrorists." Lise swore under her breath. She pulled a gun out from her coat and eyed one of the crew of the ship. "Tell the captain to get us close, we have to protect the city!"

Miiko sighed, "Fine, I guess I won't get it." Maybe next time she would ask Daddy to give her extra money for one? If Miiko came back from the mission successfully, he would spoil her rotten! Not only had Echo gathered important pieces for the solar panels, she had delivered the vital message that needed to be delivered to one of the Rebellion's head engineers. He lived on Jaspar due to the fact that resources were abundant and technology more available than on Yavin. "Daddy is gonna be so proud," Miiko beamed, they had successfully completed their first mission, now all they needed to do was get back home. Miiko assisted in loading the materials into the cargo hold of the ferry, wanting to make sure that it was all safely tied down before they set sail for Tora.

"Don't worry, Daddy isn't good at staying mad at me," Miiko grinned. She could probably get away with murder when it came to her parents and how much they spoiled her. It didn't used to be this way, but ever since she had gone through that rough spot her entire family doted and protected her, probably unable to see Miiko as anything except that little blind girl who was afraid of the dark. Now Miiko was a bone fida brat thanks to their spoiling. "He won't be mad at you if I tell him not to be. I'll just say it's my fault that we missed the last ferry." Was it safe? Mm, that was another story. "Well, as long as we hide during the inspection it'll be fine." Miiko muttered underneath her breath. "I really wanted that rabbit though!" She wasn't going to let that go of course, it had been so cute!

Miiko grinned, "Of course you'll protect me! Because I'm your-" she stopped, sensing someone behind her. Miiko turned slowly on her heel, seeing that Pablo and Lise had spotted them. Nope, they were not going to get to have a quiet ride back, it seemed that they were going to have to put up with these two once more. "It was no problem, but listen, next time you're gonna get lost somewhere, don't make yourselves such easy targets." Miiko grabbed Rose's hand. "Come on, I want a seat by the ocean!" The little brat declared, you could practically see the cat tail waving smugly through the air while the princess led her knight to the bench that faced the sea. They had only been sitting for an hour when cannons shot off in the distance. Miiko could see Tora outlined in the dark and in front of it, large red ships. The pink haired girl gasped, rising to her feet.

"Rose, we need to go below deck." She said, very quietly. Lise pulled out a gun, making a few passengers jump. "Tch, that seal," Miiko whispered, seeing the crest of L emblazoned on the side of the gun. "They're called the Red Fleet. When an island needs to get rid of it's criminals, they exile them in a red boat. They're supposed to die at sea, but in some cases, they find each other." One of the passengers spotted Rose's rapier. "Hey you, come help us!" Miiko grabbed Rose's hand. "This way!" She yelled, taking them below deck.

Prisca frowned a little. Getting their first job done was good and all, but it seemed like there were way too many delays. It was supposed to be a quick supply run, nothing this dramatic. But then again, things always seem to go wrong when you least expect it, right? The feeling of elation the day the black vans took Callum away... it was very short lived, to say the least. "Wh-what kind of protector lets her charge take the blame?" Prisca stammered, trying to act like the responsible one here, even though it was out of both of their hands. "A-at the very least, we were both responsible!" Then there was a twinge in her chest. "I-if I had something to trade..." But how was she supposed to have gotten the rabbit if she didn't even have the slightest bit of posessions? Spirits weren't meant to own things, even their most precious relic ends up belonging to someone else - the Caster, namely.

The ride to Tora was full of anxiety for Prisca. They were heading right into the nest of enemy activity and it wasn't at all what she wanted to happen on their first mission. it might have been best to wait on Jaspar for the ferry the next day... but this was the fastest way to get back to Jaspar and the spirit had a feeling her Caster didn't have enough money to rent a room or anything on the island of commerce. "It's a nice view." She admitted, the setting sun being reflected in the ocean's water was a brilliant sight to behold. But then the fires of the industrial city of Tora was even more breathtaking for a different reason. Lise took charge, ordering the captain of the ferry to take them closer to Tora and it was with some reluctance to realize that Lise and most likely Pablo were soldiers under L.

Miiko was quick to explain the Red Fleet currently raiding Tora. It made sense why, with all the factories visible even at this distance, it was logical. Especially considering it was only a few months since L occupied it with his army. "Thorny Rose, you should come help!" Pablo offered with a goofy sort of smile. But she had no intentions of doing any such thing. "My job is to protect Miiko." Rose said with a suddenly darkened expression, gripping her rapier tightly. "I can't protect her in a fight, and it would be irresponsible to go and leave her here." Before Pablo or Lise could say anything else Miiko grabbed her arm and lead her to below deck where the innocents would hide.

People were already barricading the door to the below deck area, big strong crewhands whose job it was to protect everyone who couldn't protect themselves. "If the pirates attempt to board I'll help fight." Rose said. When she was in battle mode, her shyness always managed to disappear. And it definitely seemed as if she was the only one here with actual combat war experience. "But protecting Miiko is my priority." There were lots of scared people, children huddled in corners, parents trying to comfort their kids, young couples quietly holding hands in fear.

Miiko had never thought that she would get to be in the thick of things, but she knew that now was the last time to jump into the battle and get herself hurt. Let's face it, while Miiko wanted to fight, she didn't know the first thing about self defense. Miiko had always been the one who had been protected, even when she was allowed to spend the day on the battlefield, Miiko never thought that she was going to get the chance to really fight. She had to be smart about this, if she died before returning home, her parents will have lost both of their daughters, her Mom would be so distressed that her health could decline further and it would only put more stress on her Father to be the only one leading the Rebellion. While Athena was sick, she was his right hand, attending every speech, making sure her husband got sleep, and taking care of his every need.

If Jace was the Father of the Rebellion, then Athena was very much the Mother. "I only have this," Miiko took out a little bottle of protective spray, but it wasn't exactly something she could use in a closed room full of people, but Miiko did have it as a last resort. "If they get hold of us Rose, it would be very bad for business." Miiko said cryptically. Rose better protect her, otherwise Miiko might find herself being ransomed for resources that the Rebellion didn't have. If that were the case, as a Light Bearer, she could be auctioned to any number of islands, including Capital City, where L was located. "That's right, Rose stays with me! So don't you dare try to take her!" Miiko was scared, she wasn't showing it, but she was terrified of getting taken by the Red Fleet.

Miiko checked the bandage on her hand, ensuring that it was still covering the light bearing mark. "Lise and Pablo are working for L," Miiko informed Rose quietly. "We need to stay away from them." Miiko was standing by their pile of belongings when she spotted it. The pink haired girl squealed, heading over to someone else's belongings. It was a bitter rabbit! With its cute little eye patch and its own knitted scarf. No one else was watching, no one would miss it in this fire fight, right? Miiko wriggled the rabbit out of it's rope and bound back over to Rose. "What? It won't be of any use to anyone if we all end up dead anyways." Normally, stealing was against Miiko's moral code, but on a day like today, she was going to make an exception.

"Rose, you know how to use that thing right?" Miiko asked, hearing the guns going off overhead. People were cowering behind piles of tied down materials. "Should we hide? We can lie in wait under there," Miiko pointed to the tarp covering their things. If they could loosen the rope and wiggle in, then they could hide and wait to see the results of the Red Fleet battle. The only problem was, what if the ship began to sink? If getting in was complicated, then getting out in a tight situation would be even worse.

Prisca was making sure to stand close to Miiko to make sure anyone who tried to get close to her would have to deal with the rapier-wielding girl. Miiko wouldn't have to fight, she could stand behind Prisca and let her Spirit deal with all the violence. "You won't need the spray." The mousy girl said stoutly, her eyes hardened and strong, very unlike her usual timid and easily scared self. "I won't let anyone get close enough to touch you." She was a Spirit and if her Caster was hurt, she herself would be at risk. This was her only chance to be free and be allowed to move on, the Goddess wouldn't let her reunite with Essie, not if she didn't fulfill her task. "Even if we're apart, Miiko, as long as you wish on the rose, I'll be summoned to you." She whispered for only her charge to hear.

So even if Miiko were to be captured, Rose would be brought to her and she'd be able to fight their way out together. As long as no one realized what the Summoner was, they would be okay for sure. The bandage was intact as well, they would be fine. "Everyone just stay down here, we'll handle the rest, there's nothing to fear." The Captain said before locking the door shut and heading back up, probably to help the fight to save Tora from the Red Fleet. There were lots and lots of scared people just huddling in the dark, and personally Prisca didn't really care about most of them at all. Miiko was sure to give her important information and Rose nodded. "If they don't see us fight, they won't find out." They'd just have to be careful, is all.

And then Miiko decided to steal something, wearing it cheerfully around her neck and disregarding whoever the initial owner must have been. It wasn't really her business what her Caster did, but if she was caught stealing that would certainly draw attention to them. "If someone stole that from you, would you be happy?" She said in a light, harmless tone. She wasn't going to tell Miiko to give it back, but she wasn't going to approve either. "If someone realizes we'll be too noticeable." The key was to lay low as much as possible, to not be seen or remembered.

Everyone was more or less left to their own devices now, but one crewmate was trying to organize things, to decide on an order of evacuation if the ship were to sink. "We have to save the children first, and then the women and finally the men." He decided obtusely, and Prisca wondered if she would count under children or women. "It would be good to hide." She agreed, and before they could get to the tarp an older women suddenly reached out for her rapier, gently touching the edge. "Martyr." She read with a crinkly sort of grin. "Interesting thing to engrave on a weapon, m'dear." Wait, it actually had that written into the blade? Who thought that was a good idea? "It's so I don't forget my past, lady." Rose said, glad to be in battle mode.

Miiko sighed, "Fine, I'll put it back." She sneaked her way back across the room and placed the bitter rabbit toy back where it had come from. No spray? Fine, Miiko put that back as well. "For someone who's so shy, you sure act confident about that pointy toothpick." Miiko was not happy about having to put the toy back, she had wanted the rabbit for herself. Oh well, it was bad karma to steal, or at least, that's what Gavin would say. Gavin believed in all sorts of strange things like ghosts and spirits. Well, it seemed that Miiko was going to need to believe in them now as well, since she was technically working with one. The funny part about it all, was that Miiko didn't consider Rose to be a spirit, in fact, she thought that Rose was completely human. Miiko would have been one hundred percent convinced if she hadn't accidentally walked through Rose on the ground when she had first came upon her.

Miiko touched the bandage self consciously. Which was worse, Lise and Pablo finding out, or the Red Fleet finding out? "We can't let anyone know," Miiko whispered. The Captain was giving orders, saying that children would go first. That was perfect, Miiko looked like a child! Rose did too! They could sneak away on a life boat if the worst things came true. Miiko didn't think that there was an easy way out of this. "Let's hide then!" She tugged on Rose's sleeve, leading her behind the pile of trees that were being imported to another island that probably needed some botanical rehabilitation. There were plenty of islands like that, they had become nothing but piles of sand and half buried houses. Before they could duck, a woman touched Rose's rapier, noticing the engraving on the side of it. That was something that Miiko hadn't noticed before, it was a strange word too.

Perhaps in her past, that was how Rose had died? Miiko was curious now, she would have to be sure to ask her later. Upstairs, the sound of an explosion went off in the distance. Miiko covered her ears, perhaps a bit scared of the explosions. It reminded her of bad things, whenever explosions went off, bad things usually followed. While there were no guns, you could still get your hands on some natural chemicals that were explosive should they be harnessed. "It's loud, I hate it!" Alcohol was one of the key ingredients and while it was hard to get your hands on, Miiko was sure that the Red Fleet was able to find some pretty easily. Alcohol was one of the rare substances in their world and due to its diverse uses, it was also highly coveted.

Miiko heard something hit the deck, but there was no explosion. Someone yelled, presumably throwing the thing off the starboard side of the railing. Said thing exploded, rocking the boat like mad. Miiko slid to the left, right into where Rose was huddled, probably trying to keep herself upright. The boat next rocked to the right and once more Miiko slid like a penguin on ice, slippery and precarious. "We need to get out of here, we have to go back to Jaspar!" Miiko could wait until morning to return, maybe Tanka would even allow them to sleep in the warehouse, assuming they returned to Jaspar? If Lise and Pablo had called for backup, it would mean having to deal with authorities that Miiko had neither the class nor patience to handle.

Almost immediately all of the confidence Prisca was managing to show, it all exploded into a big pile of nothing, it was like a balloon being pricked by a tiny little pin. "A-auugh." Priscma muttered when questioned by Miiko, even if it was done in a teasing manner. She squirmed and looked down and hid behind the ornate handguard of the rapier, not wanting her face to be seen. "I-I just - urgh, Miiko." It wasn't really confidence at all, just professionalism. She was trained to keep her emotions in check when getting ready to fight but it was way too easy for Miiko to just weasel her way under the mental barrier and poke her in the weak spot. Things were getting bad, but what options did they have but to hope for the best?

Lise, Pablo, the Red Fleet, they were all enemies, no one could be trusted, not unless they were a part of the rebellion. And on this vessel, the only ones she knew she could count on were Miiko and herself, Rose. If anyone found out - well, Prisca would just have to make sure her Caster remained safe. One of these days she was going to have to ask what her ability was, since each Caster had a light bearing gift, but for now, they could wait. "Cover your ears, it's my job to protect you." She said in a tone of forced calm, trying not to flinch and lose her balance. "Don't worry about anything." If she failed here, she would never get the chance to apologize to Essie... it was a terrifying prospect but eventually, that would be her reward for all this toil. Hopefully it would be worth it.

Something hit the deck. Her mind moved quickly - if there was a bomb on the ship, then that could only mean it was about to blow up from the top. With rapid practiced movements, Rose pulled Miiko to her and then covered her with her own body... but then instead of an explosion taking out the ceiling, it instead shifted the ship to the side. "We can't leave, the supplies are here, if we leave the ship, we leave the supplies behind." Rose muttered, shaking her head. Only if an evacuation was deemed necessary - but they would be forced to leave everything behind.

After a while, things quieted. It took far too long for that to happen, but it did. Someone opened up the barricade and unlocked the door, looking in. "Things have settled down now, but for the safety of our passengers, we'll be returning to Yavin immediately." Rose nodded, a contemplative expression on her face. "Those whose stop is Tora, please check in at the legislative building to report your survival so your families do not worry." More things were said but in the end, Rose was glad that she didn't have to fight. As much as her ability made her good at it, the fact was that she hated combat, she hated fighting. Eventually she would have to, but the longer she could delay, the better. "Let's stay aboard and head home." Rose whispered to her Caster. "We have emergency rations for the passengers remaining, in case it's too dangerous to get dinner in Tora. Crew members will be distributing them shortly."

Miiko covered her ears and closed her eyes, hoping that Rose knew what she was doing. It was a while before the boat ceased its rocking and Miiko was able to uncover her ears and open her eyes. "Is it over?" She asked, looking up at Rose with interest. Had Rose moved from this spot? No, Miiko had been able to feel her warm presence beside her the entire ordeal. The Captain unlocked the cargo door, making a few announcements that were relevant to them. They would be getting dinner on the boat and once all passenger for Tora exited, the boat would quickly make its way to Yavin. By now it was very late at night, the ship lights were all on high and after coming out of the dark cargo hold, Miiko had to blink a few times in order for her eyes to adjust.

"We're alive!" Miiko glomped onto her partner, breathing a sigh of relief. She placed her hands on her hips, "I told you we would be alright!" She giggled, perhaps on a bit of an adrenaline rush now that the fighting was over. "We're not leaving the stuff behind, I'm sure Daddy is gonna be so proud of your first mission!" Maybe next time they could do something with Gavin and Callum? "Maybe next time he and Mommy will let us travel somewhere more exciting?" Maybe they would go into enemy territory in disguise to gather information? Miiko could think of all the exciting tasks that she and Rose would be able to do now that they had proved themselves in the first task. Miiko received her rations and went to sit down, grinning from ear to ear while she ate the food that had been provided for them.

Her Father and Gavin were waiting for them on the dock, worried sick. "What took you so long!" Gavin yelled, leaping up upon seeing Miiko and Rose exit the boat. "Mimi!" Her Daddy ran over, sweeping Miiko up into his arms. "Thank goodness you're alright, we heard about the attack in Tora and we thought that you might have been on that ferry." Miiko placed her hands on her hips, "We were on that ferry!" She declared, gesturing to their boat. "But Rose protected me and the stuff!" The cargo was being unloaded as they spoke. "No need to worry, Rose and I are the best!" Her Father hugged her one more time, stroking her hair. "I'm just glad you're okay. Now, don't ever do that again! You know better than to get on the last ferry!"[/color] Miiko shrugged, "It was Tanka, the delivery wasn't ready for two hours."

"In any case, you're home now." He turned to stare at Rose, "this was a pass for your first task, but the second won't be so easy." He said quietly to her, "thank you for protecting my daughter." Miiko puffed out her cheeks, "I don't need protection!" She crossed her arms, "Rose and I can protect ourselves just fine!"

The battle was over, there was no sign of Lise or Pablo, the two had probably reached their destination in Tora, the city they probably helped take over. But it didn't seem like they were soulless cruel monsters or anything, Lise and Pablo seemed - well, a bit strange, both of them - but other than that, they weren't particularly evil at first glance. Still, it did no one any favors to think like this. They were enemies, no matter how nice and gullible they might be. "I-I had n-no doubts that we'd survive!" With the danger passed, there was no reason to stay in battle mode, and so default Prisca returned in full force, the blushing nervous girl that couldn't look anyone in the eye to save her life. "...I'm gl-glad we didn't have to fight." But next time was probably going to be a different story.

Jace and Gavin were waiting for them. Callum was there as well, he looked worried about Princess Miiko but he made sure to shoot Prisca an angry glare. Still, as much as Prisca hated him back, she had to admit that it helped ground her in reality, otherwise this entire experience would feel far too dreamlike and she would sense a disconnect. With Callum and his hate here, it was a permanent reminder that yes, all of this, it was real, not some dying hallucination. The familiarity made it real. "W-we're back." Prisca stammered in her usual way, which by now everyone expected. The two of them blamed the other for Essie's death, and as far as Prisca was concerned, if he didn't seduce her, if he didn't try to get her involved in violent vigilantism, she wouldn't have felt the need to rat him out.

"W-we won't - we won't fail." Rose tried to inject confidence in her words but the truth was that there was hardly any at all. She didn't even know what she was doing really, going against something like a whole Empire with a ragtag little group, could they really win? Would fighting these odds earn her the right to see Essie again? "F-for future reference, Miiko, what is your light bearing gift?" The spirit asked. It would be good to know what they were both capable of so that they could rely on one another if things got tough for the next mission. "Mine is prediction, I can see what my enemy is about to do." It wasn't super flashy or powerful, but it was incredibly useful.

Closer to the World Tree, they heard a familiar singing again. This time though, while Daisy was still singing, the ratty brown haired girl had been reading a book upsidedown and her eyes shimmered with curiosity as she glanced at Miiko and Prisca. "Does she ever talk?" Prisca asked, the girl named Jellyfish truly was a mystery to her. "She's mute except with Daisy." Callum explained, sounding very reluctant to have to talk to her. "I don't think anyone but Daisy really understands her." The mouse couldn't help but feel that Jellyfish was just a name given to her, that her real name was probably something else entirely.

Miiko placed her hands on her hips, "A bit disappointing I have to say, I always thought that if I faced off against pirates, I would come out as the new Captain. They wouldn't wear hideous pirate outfits though, only cute clothes made by Celine!" Miiko looked up at Rose's question, "to be honest, I don't know. How do I found out?" How was Miiko supposed to know what her Light Bearing Gift was? What if she was a lame duck and didn't have one? Then Miiko really would be useless, only able to conjure up a ghost with a really nice sword. "You can try to find out later, for now, it's time for bed." It was nearly two AM now, not the latest Miiko had stayed up but she was certainly tired. "Alright, fine, come on Rose, you can sleep in Stella's room! I'm sure she won't mind letting you borrow it!" Gavin made a face, as though the idea of someone else using Stella's room was unimaginable.

Her Father grimaced, perhaps one of them would eventually tell Rose the truth about what had happened to Stella. "You can see the future?" Miiko asked, her eyes widening in wonder. She really seemed like a child, what with how easily she was amused and all. They were in the car now on their way to the top of the tree, Miiko of course didn't know that once Miiko went to sleep, Rose would disappear back into her flower until Miiko summoned her again. When she awoke next she would likely think that it had all been some strange dream until someone reminded her about her new spirit and responsibility. When the car doors opened the first thing they all saw were Daisy and Jellyfish. Miiko rolled her eyes and hopped out, landing with a skip on the solid, smooth tree trunk. Up here, Miiko felt so small and insignificant, like a bug that could be swept away by the wind.

A fresh layer of snow dusted everything, making it as white an fresh as a new sheet of paper. "Once you get to know her, it's pretty easy to understand what she want without words. Or so I'm told," Miiko had yet to figure out the true Jellyfish, right now, she could vaguely understand what she wanted with many hand signals. "She pretends she's mute, but really, she talks to Daisy all the time." Miiko crossed her arms, "stupid," she kicked a pile of snow, waiting for the others to exit the car. When at last everyone had touched down, Miiko led Rose into the main house where she lived. "Stella's room is this way," she informed Rose, leading her to the room that was right beside Miiko's. "Here you go, if you use stuff, make sure to put it back. Everything has to be perfect when Stella comes home."

"Goodnight Rose," Miiko walked to the room next door and took off her jacket. She took the plastic rose out of her pocket and placed it on th nightstand in front of the photo of her family. With a grin, Miiko unwound her scarf and took out the stuffed rabbit. No, it hadn't been stolen this time, it had been given to her after the fight by a couple who decided that their married daughter was a little old to receive stuffed animals, but Miiko, who looked like she was ten, could use one after that terrible experience on board the ferry.

How did she discover her light bearing gift? It was hard to say, it just happened automatically during the testing fights against real ones. In a high stress situation she found that she could see what her enemies were about to do and knew how to step around it to hit them from behind or in weak spots that they weren't guarding. "It'll come out automatically when you need it most." Prisca said, because that was what happened for her. As for Jellyfish, she didn't have much to say... but it was kind of interesting how in these troubled times how a girl could look so detached from all the problems, so unconcerned with what was happening. "It isn't really the future, it's simply a variety of possible actions my enemy could take." And only three of them, which was pretty limiting.

Well, with that, she bade Miiko good night and was finally given some peace and quiet to herself in Stella's room. She would return to her Summoner upon sleeping, but to get to the state of sleep she needed to have something comfortable to lie on. "I-I hope you don't mind, Stella." Even though Stella wasn't here for some reason, it still felt uncomfortable to take her room for the time being. She fell asleep pretty much instantly.

The Hart sisters were entering high school for the first time. America was very different now than it was during the days of Trump near the beginning of the millennium, times had changed, the political climate shifted, war was brewing after Shoku solidified his rule upon stamping out the Freedom Fighters and the HIVE... and despite all of this instability, children and teenagers were still going to school. "I-I'm r-really nervous, Essie." Prisca whimpered, staring down at the ground as they walked to high school together. "Th-there's gonna be... more people and I - I don't know what to..." School wasn't mandatory, and Prisca had wanted to find a job somehow, to do something else, something that didn't require meeting lots and lots of new people.

But Essie was like a blooming flower and she couldn't just leave her twin sister's side. "Don't worry!" Essie made a peace sign with her fingers, twin tails flapping with the flowing wind of the metropolis that was New York City. By now, the entire state was one gigantic city that sprawled the entire length of the state, it was an urban sprawl the world has never seen before. "I'm with you, Prisca, we're the unbeatable Hart sisters!" The confident and blooming Essie pulled out their special relic from her bag and both sisters took hold of it. "As long as this rose's beauty lasts, we'll always be together." A wave of calm wafted through Prisca's chest and she nodded, wiping at her eyes as they approached the school. "Y-yeah. You're with me... so I won't worry... I'll try to be brave too."

"Stella!" Miiko gasped, running towards her big sister. "Stella, Stella, look at this!" Miiko pointed to the seashell she was holding, the two of them sitting on Pride Rock towards the east of their home. The World Tree was in full bloom for spring, precious pink flowers blossoming all along their beautiful island. "That's a nice shell," Stella said with a gentle smile. "Look at mine," Stella showed Miiko her blue shell, the two of them giggling. "Come on, there's more over here!" Stella pointed out, closer to the ocean. "But Stella, I-I'm scared of the water." Stella grinned, "Miiko, you're not a scaredy cat are you!" Miiko shook her head, "No! I'm brave like Mommy and Daddy!" Miiko carefully moved from one rock to the next, this one slick with water. Ocean spray kissed her skin, salt touching her eyes.

Miiko rubbed them vigorously and wen she blinked them open again everything was blurry. "Stella!" Miiko called. "Over here!" Stella replied, Miiko smiled in relief and headed over, her foot slipping on the next rock. She had never flown before, but Miiko knew the sensation almost as soon as the butterflies hit her stomach. Something hard knocked into her head, salt water stung her eyes and hurt her lungs. "Miiko!" She heard Stella calling her name, Miiko tried to swim up, but which way had up gone? "Stella!" Water entered her mouth, she coughed and choked, a wave hitting her against the rocks. "Stella, help!" The pink haired girl screamed, salt thick on her tongue. "Hang on Miiko, I'm going to get help!"

Miiko hit her head against the rocks once more, her vision going dark. How long was she floating there for? Miiko wasn't sure. She could no longer breathe, her lungs continued to fill with water, Miiko was certain that she was going to drown. Something tugged on her tunic, Miiko was lifted from the water and onto the rocks. "Move! Move!" A great pressure was on her chest, Miiko was not sure what was happening, but she was placed on her side, more water spilling out of her lungs. Blurry shapes hovered around her, two of which were her parents. "I'm sorry!" Someone to the left was crying, "this is all my fault, I'm so sorry Miiko!" Athena wrapped Miiko in a blanket and stood. "Move out of the way, we need to get to the doctor!"

They went through the underground city, Miiko shivering terribly. "Doctor! We need a Doctor!" Athena continued to howl until at long last, someone replied. They rushed Miiko into their home and lay her on the floor. The Doctor pumped the rest of the water out of Miiko's lungs, easing her back into consciousness. "Mommy," Miiko coughed, shivering weakly. "Shh, don't try to speak, it's alright, Mommy's here now." Miiko reached out for her Mother's hand, Athena taking and squeezing it. "What's this?" Athena asked, rubbing her thumb over the strange mark. Jace had arrived, he had left Stella with their neighbor. "That's a light bearing mark," he said knowingly, kneeling on the floor. "Daddy," Miiko reached for him too. He placed her head on his lap and stroked her hair. "It's okay, Daddy's here now." He whispered, "Mommy and Daddy will always be here."

School was always a frightening thing for Prisca. She was never quite as good as Essie in these sorts of situations, and it was very obvious just by looking at the two girls. One was a meek looking mouse, the other was a dazzling star, ready to shine and show off what she had to the world. They couldn't be more opposite of one another and yet they got along near perfectly. It was time for the self introductions and Essie went first of course, because E came before P in the alphabet. "I am Esme Hart!" Essie winked at the class and stood with the utmost of confidence. "I love going shopping and reading books and making lots of friends and memories!" Almost everyone in the homeroom was enraptured by her undeniable charisma. "My motto is that I'm reaching for the stars! They're so far away - but one day, I'll touch them, and everyone else will too!"

Compared to the star that was Essie, Prisca was much less of a hit with the class. She stood on the platform at the front of the class, shrinking and trying to hide behind the teaching podium. Even Essie's encouraging smile wasn't enough to make her feel like she could handle this. "I-I... I - I'm... I'm Pris... Prisca... that's what Es-Essie calls me, um..." A deep blush settled on her face even though the class was just listening quietly, maybe even politely. The anxiety was mounting, it was unbearable, she didn't know what else to say. "I'm.... Essie's... sister." And then she started to cry, her knees buckled, she couldn't handle this at all. It was just so pathetic, why couldn't she be strong and amazing like Essie? "Shh, deep breaths, in your mouth, out your nose, you'll be okay." Essie whispered, rubbing her back at the front of the class, the two girls hiding behind the podium. "Because you're my sister, so I know you'll be just fine!"

But Prisca was inconsolable, she just kept on crying, this was way too hard for her and she already made such a fool of herself. Essie let out a bit of an amused sigh then and did what she always did when Prisca's panic attacks were too strong. "C'mere, you." Essie planted her forehead against Prisca's, and a sense of warmth and calm flowed through to the crying sister. This was their magic spell, whenever Essie put her forehead against Prisca's, Prisca just felt calm and at peace, it was like everything was going to be okay. "Are you okay now?" Prisca nodded, rubbing the tears out of her eyes. "Th-thank you, thank you, sis..." No one could really explain how this worked, and Essie always gave the same answer whenever asked by their parents or their friends or anything else.

"I am Prissie's special drug!" She exclaimed happily to anyone that asked. "I make her better again when nothing else can!" The sisters were inseparable, their bond, everyone knew that it would last until the end of time.

In a dungeon under the Capital City - the city itself was still neutral but it was only a matter of time until L rose up and took over with his conquering army - a certain red haired girl went to a cell, bringing food as she always did. The girl in the cell, her hair was long and red, although muted now compared to how it once sparkled with the light of the sky. "On the Jaspar Scouting mission, Lise and Pablo found someone interesting." Orianna said quietly, because no one could hear them here, in these quiet morning moments. "It was your sister, with someone we don't recognize." Of the four heads of L's army, Orianna was considered the heart, the moral compass, fighting loyally for them while also making sure they never did anything cruel to hurt anyone. L - he was a Conquerer, but he was doing it to unite everyone, to bring order to the chaos that was the feuding neutral cities. L wanted to end all the fighting and put everyone under one banner.

But sometimes they had to do harsh methods in order to win, and Ori was here to ensure that they never went too far. There was a reason Stella wasn't tortured to death, the worst was blocked, and happily so. The other three, they weren't bad people, they just easily got caught up in their jobs. It was Ori that kept them human. "We've agreed to hide this from L for as long as we can. As long as she doesn't fight, we have no business in hurting her." Orianna's face was gentle and kind. "She's doing well, she even has a friend following her around." Every morning after every mission, Ori always found time to talk to Stella, because no one else did, and no one deserved to rot in prison without at least one friend.

Stella slowly looked up while breakfast came in through the slot, Orianna bringing food to Stella like she did every morning. Stella got off of her bed and sat in front of the slot, picking up the spoon that had come with breakfast. A blend of sludge and crisp oats, something that Stella had become accustomed to over the years of imprisonment. "Oh?" Stella asked, listening with feigned interest. Orianna's attempts to get information out of Stella had been unsuccessful thus far and a new installment would do nothing to make Stella change her mind. This someone interesting could have been any number of people, not that Stella quite cared since it was never anyone important. She choked upon hearing it was her sister, nearly swallowing her spoon. "Wh-what?!" Stella shuffled closer to the slot in the door, looking through it.

Miiko was with someone unfamiliar? What was Miiko doing off of Yavin! Stella didn't quite care about the other person Miiko was with, but if Miiko was off of the island it meant that she was running missions, exactly what she hadn't wanted her parents to start doing. Miiko was never good at making friends, most people thought of her as an adorable kitten in need of protecting, but Miiko had never considered any of them friends, certainly not enough to run a mission with. "Who was she with? Girl or boy?" Was it Gavin? Had Gavin gone on the mission with Echo? No, they would have identified Gavin and Callum and attacked on sight. Stella sat back on her heels, shoulders shaking ever so slightly. If Miiko was on Jaspar, did it mean that she had been activated? The last thing Stella would do was reveal that her little sister was a light bearer, or at least, a fake one. She could still see the cloud outline on Miiko's hand, the one they had questioned for years as to whether or not it was a fluke.

If you went down two flights of stairs and past the heavy led doors, you would come across a two part room. The first part of the room was an area for observation, the second an isolated bedroom where a little girl sat on the floor. She was thin with thick auburn hair that was now at Rapunzel length, her eyes were blue, but no longer carried that child like sparkle. Unlike most of the other prisoners, this one only ever received one visitor. Currently she sat huddled on the floor, wearing a threadbare white gown that tied in the back. Beside her was a pole containing nutrient bags that were replaced every night when she was asleep. She rocked herself slightly, her hands were wrapped around her knees, ignoring the pile of books beside her.

The heavy door creaked open, the girl on the floor shivered. "Ms. Hemond," she could hear the grin in L's voice. His steel toed shoes tapped against the tiled floor as he approached the glass. "Ready for another fun day?" Yui shrunk away from the glass, trying to hide behind the stack of books. "Stay away from me," she whispered, her voice coming out small and shaky, it was clear that Yui was very afraid of this man. "But we've been having such a great time," most of the city's power was diverted to this small room, where luminescent lights flickered in place above them and the vents made sure there was a steady stream of recycled air. He typed in the password, the door hissing as the air lock released. L lifted Yui around the middle, carrying her the same way that one would carry a suitcase. "Too light Ms. Hemond, we're going to have to turn up those feeds." He carried Yui out without so much as a struggle and headed towards Lab 3.

"She's going around introducing herself as Miiko to people she never met before." Orianna said quietly, an almost mournful expression on her face. The spoiled little sister of Stella the prodigy really had been careless on that mission. "As long as she doesn't fight though, there's no reason to report it, Stella." It was saddening that Stella didn't really consider her a friend, but it was understandable as well. As kind as Orianna might be, it didn't change the fact the the two were enemies and had fought on the battle field against each other before. "It's a girl, her name is Rose. I don't suppose you know her, Lise and Pablo didn't recognize her either." It was a mystery where she came from, and that could have many meanings, but there was one that was most worrisome.

It was the possibility that this Rose girl might just be a Spirit. And if she was with Miiko, then Miiko was a Caster. If that were true, then L had a vested interest in taking her, just like he wanted to take all Casters and Spirits under his rule. "According to Lise, Rose acted like Miiko's bodyguard, and she seemed to know little about the world." Two warning signs that Rose could very well be a Spirit. "Let's just say, I hope a reunion between you sisters doesn't end up necessary, Stella." Was it silly to have a soft heart? The redhead didn't know, but she would continue down this path, because if it wasn't for her, she had a feeling the other three would truly become monsters. But as long as she was here, she would do her best to keep them human as they achieved their goals.

It was very disorienting to be dragged out of your personal purgatory by your Caster touching your Summoner to bring you back to reality in the morning. It was a nauseating feeling, like you were just yanked somewhere from a comfortable familiar place to a strange unknown. "Good morning, Miiko..." The mourning mouse mumbled in the morning light, looking blearily at her Caster. They had breakfast and then they were set to gather at the meeting table with the other Caster and Spirit pairs and Jace and Athena, the leaders of the rebellion. "It has come to light that Jaspar is at risk of an invasion by L's forces at any moment." He said in a grave tone. "Today, we should focus our efforts on making sure Jaspar stands."

So a whole bunch of things were said, and finally in the end, the missions were as follows - the six of them were to head to Jaspar and try to establish relations with Jaspar's Mayor, to warn him of the threat. Secondly, planting little cells of resistance fighters to help fight against L's occupying army, and thirdly, to build up defenses and walls and barricades and extra food and ammunition to last against the attack. Jellyfish ended up falling asleep halfway through, a bubble of saliva trailing from her mouth, expanding and deflating as she breathed. Daisy patted her head gently as plans were made, but Prisca could only focus on the bubble and accidentally tuned everything out.

When Miiko awoke, it was to the gentle nudging of her Mother. "Mimi, time to get up," Athena said softly, kneeling beside the bed. She was still in her dressing gown, resembling an angel the way the light framed her head and her smile lit up the small space that contained Miiko's room. Miiko sat up, rubbing her eyes. "Why so early?" She groaned, looking outside. It was snowing hard, wind whistling through the window which made Miiko shier. Athena closed the window, dusting off the powder. "If you continue to sleep with your window open, you're going to catch a cold," she scolded. Miiko rolled her eyes, "Mommy, you shouldn't be up." Miiko said, taking her Mother's hand. She gently guided Athena back to her own room. "Your health is fragile and I can get up on my own, I'm a big girl!" Athena stroked Miiko's hair, smiling faintly. "Yes, you are," her knee gave, Athena crumpled to the ground. "Mommy!"

Miiko caught her, heaving a sigh. "Please, go back to bed, you're not well." Athena sat on her knees, looking slightly defeated. She had once been the strong, fearless right hand of the rebellion. Now she was weak and frail, pail and losing her hair. "Please let Daddy take you to Central City," Miiko begged. "Please, it's not worth your health to stay here." Athena shook her head, "I'll be just fine Miiko," she pushed Miiko's bangs back and planted a kiss on her daughter's forehead. "Everything will be just fine," she rose slowly to her feet and allowed Miiko to help her back into bed. "I'll bring you some soup, stay here, alright?" Miiko bustled back into the kitchen and turned on the stove, putting up a pot of soup for her Mother.

By the time it was ready and Miiko delivered it to the bedroom, Athena was already asleep. Miiko placed the tray on the table and crept over to the curtains, drawing them closed. She tip toed back to her own room, taking the rose gently in her grasp. "It was just a dream, wasn't it?" Miiko murmured, the rose beginning to sparkle. Miiko screamed as Rose appeared in her room, looking refreshed from her sleep. "Don't do that! Next time just use the door!" No, it had not been a dream. "And before you ask, no I wasn't scared!" Miiko crossed her arms and whirled around, heading towards the closet that was bursting to the seams with clothes of every color. "Anyways, it's really cold outside, you'll need clothes that are suitable for a heavy snowstorm." Miiko got dressed in record time and led Rose back to Stella's room. Once the two were fully clothed they went to the kitchen, where Gavin was cooking up breakfast.

"Who made soup this morning?" He questioned as Miiko took a seat at the table. "I made some for Mommy, but she fell asleep before she could eat it." Breakfast was eaten in silence until her Father came in to announce the meeting. He gentle roused Athena from sleep and led her to the meeting room, where the team, plus Miiko and Rose, had gathered to hear the status report. This was Miiko's first ever rebel meeting and her eagerness was palpable, almost contagious in fact. While Miiko listened with clear intent at first, after an hour of debating and arguing her interested waned until she too, was half asleep at the table, just like Jellyfish.
